Oculus took like 2 hours of flying around as a dragon.
This instance took 2 minutes and 30 seconds…
I don’t think there is really a comparison.
Null was better since you got to use your abilities and the mini-game. Though It was kind of short and easy. The Flame and Frost dungeon was better.
They also said that guild mission chest can drop precursors. But i’ve never even heard of one instance of any person in any guild ever getting one.
In fact i’ve only seen like 2-3 exotics from guild chests out of my guild which fields 60 people for all 4 guild missions every week.
So I wouldn’t get your hopes up for exotics or precursors.
Also 5 ranks in a day is pretty much impossible unless you play for 24 hours straight. two ranks a day for hardcore players, 1 rank a day for moderate players, and about half a rank a day for most players.
These dyes are still available on the TP. Most of them have 50+ available.
They are as expensive as people are willing to pay for them. If you want them that bad then you are welcome to buy them like everyone else. I fail to see the problem.
Why weren’t you complaining when they were 4-8g each? Were the colors less appealing then? I think most likely you missed out on an opportunity to make money so you are trying to punish other people for it.
Is there any sort of timeline on this? It was first stated over 6 months ago I believe. Is this something that is going to happen in the next few months? 6 more months? A year? 10 years? Obviously you can’t give us an exact date, but some sort of rough timeline would be nice.
We’ve learned we really can’t give timelines, since if we’re ever wrong a mob comes after us with torches and pitchforks
I can say we started designing this, and realized the proper (not hacked in quick) solution needs to be a part of bigger systems that more clearly directs players as well as ties in comprehensive rewards for playing across our game world, which we’re currently working on right now.
Some small parts of that comprehensive plan for game reward systems are already rolling out this month with the updates to WvW rank rewards.
For more details of our high-level strategy, feel free to check out:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/colin-johanson-on-guild-wars-2-in-the-months-ahead/
So this is actually a very good thing… but… you’ve already accomplished pretty much everything stated in that blog post. Any chance we’ll get an updated one for the second half of 2013? Obviously the living story will continue to grow and expand, but an update on what’s coming in other aspects of the game would be great.
Are there any sites up and running that track the events? I’d like to stop using my old manual site and take advantage of someones use of the API
We still plan to do both new legendary weapons, as well as a clear path (on top of the current random chance) to gain precursors which players can see their progress and understand how much work they have left to do to gain it.
It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.
We do also want to maintain that chance you could get lucky and earn one earlier through random drops, so when we add the new system we will not remove the current one to ensure players have multiple ways to gain the items. Also with the upcoming update to WvW, there will be a chance players can earn precursors from the WvW rank reward chests as well.
Is there any sort of timeline on this? It was first stated over 6 months ago I believe. Is this something that is going to happen in the next few months? 6 more months? A year? 10 years? Obviously you can’t give us an exact date, but some sort of rough timeline would be nice.
If you think crab toss is luck based then you are just bad at it. I did all the achievements in 3 hours. I won all but 2 matches in those 3 hours. Crabtacular requires a touch of luck if there are other skilled people in the match, but can easily be acquired by working with those people.
i guess their marketing worked huh?
Why, yes, yes, it did. If you consider all three Guild Wars campaigns and Eye of the North as ‘marketing’ for Guild Wars 2.
I don’t think GW1 players make up as much of the playerbase as you think.
I’m pretty sure they said before launch that they expected expansions to be a major source of the games revenue similar to GW1.
They have stated that they aren’t currently focusing on an expansion, but since this is a B2P game, the gem store and expansions is where all their money comes from. You can bet that there will be a lot of expansions over the games lifetime.
They have on average, not counting class bugs/changes, fixed 3 bugs per DAY since launch.
They are fixing bugs at a great rate, and the content is building up faster now. I mean we have 2 content updates this month alone. That is 10x the pace of WoW’s content updates.
NCSOFT has announced that an expansion is in the works, but it won’t be out for quite a while.
I thought that the Black Lion Trading Co. and the Consortium were rivals?
Why is the Black Lion Trading Co. Advertising and selling Consortium products?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/incredible-new-items-in-the-gem-store/
If you want a real title, then use the mad king clock tower JP achievement. That is the only JP in the game that has offered any amount of challenge so far.
You really only need 4 or 5 people to play nice. The rest can be adequately controlled using fish poles, anchors and planks. I found 6 people willing to try and get it and the people who wouldn’t play nice we just reeled or knocked into place when we needed to.
All 6 of us were able to get it in one match. You just have to play with a different set of ideas then the normal game to get it.
I was in a very fun arena where we were all going for crabtacular. All but 2 people were very willing, but 2 people with fishing poles and 2 people with planks made it so that it didn’t matter if they wanted to cooperate or not, we left them no choice lol.
The 891 Karka Shells alone are worth the 100 crates.
891 shells @ 3s each = 27g – 15% = 23g after selling
100 crates = 12,000 gems which sell @ 2.24g/100 = 268 gold
yep… it was almost worth it for the shells lol
The backlog of chests that will be awarded is going to cause a massive drop in ecto prices initially, with a bounce back to ~17s, where it will stabilize due to the new source of ectos.
That is my estimation at least.
I’ve bought all the F&F dyes that were 20g and under for my personal use. Which was 8 of them when I purchased them. I like having as many dyes as possible, and the extra definition and contrast of the F&F dyes makes them worth it for certain gear combos. I just wish there was a way to make dyes account bound instead of character bound.
you nerf the farm you will never get the temple completed because everyone will leave. Lyssa takes like 15 minutes to kill, spawns tons of mobs that drop 0 loot and one shot you. No one in their right mind would ever try and complete that event.
Heck even if by some miracle you complete the event, the champions who one shot don’t despawn and one shot the karma vendor and everyone else in the area. So even if you do unlock it you won’t be able to make it to the vendor in time before it and everyone else is dead.
I can assure you that at 400% MF you will notice a very large difference then at 0%. Try not to farm more then an hour or two at a time though or you’ll smack into DR.
They are so easy to get that I don’t really see the problem. I’ve farmed 20 of them so far with minimal effort. I still haven’t seen anything other then mats though.
What did you get your % magic find up to? I was ~250% and haven’t gotten any.
I use 363% and get about one every 30 minutes of constant killing.
I’m surprised rift didn’t make the list. I’ve never played it, but i’ve heard its a pretty good game and its going f2p soon.
Not suprised at all that WoW wasn’t on there. It is literally hemorrhaging subs. It’s lost over a million since the expansion came out, and that’s when it was already down a couple million. It may be the greatest MMO of all time, but it isn’t great as a 2013 MMO.
Well as i wrote the thread i knew about the mf buff on SSC but what i didn’t know is that it is a 200% buff and that the instigator event is repeatable every 5 min O.o
So far it looks like ecto prices will drop very rapidly as well as lvl 75+ rares. I don’t kknow if this might effect the precursor prices but atm it seems like they’ll rise again.
Offtopic: the cthulhu backpack is awesome :P
Chests are not effected by MF. Anyone farming those chests is a fool. I’m not giving away my location but with the MF buffs I can currently farm 8g/hr + ~4 ectos an hour on southsun.
They are so easy to get that I don’t really see the problem. I’ve farmed 20 of them so far with minimal effort. I still haven’t seen anything other then mats though.
I’ve gotten more then 5s from young kakra’s. the amount of money dropped is RNG like all drops.
I can log in now… but when I select a character it says it can’y access the login server… which is a lie since I already logged in!
A fool and his money are easily parted. For the vast majority of poor people they are poor because they make stupid decisions and spend money on things they can’t afford.
If you are poor why do you own a computer capable of playing GW2? If you are really poor you should sell that and buy a cheap walmart computer to apply for jobs. If you are poor why did you spend $50 on entertainment for yourself? If you have that much free time then you should use it to either get an education or look for a job. I love watching the homeless people who are capable enough to beg for money right next to the help wanted signs at fast food restaurants.
If you really don’t have the self control to prevent yourself from spending money you don’t have then cut up your credit cards.
People are poor because they make poor decisions(excluding those with obvious disabilities, life changing injuries and those who’s lives were destroyed by medical or natural disasters) , not because of some evil gaming corporation is selling convenience items.
Your post is a little contradictory. You claim that drop rates are too low and then you complain that the items only sell for 1 or 2 gold. Those statements are contradictory to each other. The prices of items (for the most part) are based upon rarity. If the rare items are only selling for 1-2g then they aren’t rare, they drop too often. A rare item is one that is selling for 100+ gold.
Surprisingly enough most of the rare items that cost 100g or more are ones that you need to farm to obtain the mats for them to forge them in the MF. Go make a mjolnir or two, that should keep you busy.
The fact that you can farm the crates is a great improvement over the Fused weapons RNG.
I also love the changes to Southsun, it is one of my favorite zones, very diverse and unique.
I can guarantee you that Anet makes more money with gambling boxes then direct purchase skins. How do I come by this knowledge you ask? Simple…
Anet tried doing direct purchase skins for wintersday. People no longer wanted them because they weren’t “rare” since anyone could buy them. Therefore very few people bought them. Anet did not make a lot of money. Anet puts a 0.1% chance of getting an item in a box. The item is “rare” now and most people won’t get it so everyone and their mother spent $30+ on these boxes for a chance at the “rare” item.
Whatever your personal opinion on the matter is, it doesn’t matter because Anet gave the players a choice and the vast majority chose RNG boxes.
You cannot really come to a firm conclusion based on a sample size of 1. As a post above says, the skins were not great. There are many factors that can affect it. It would be very difficult to say with 100% certainty one way or the other.
Your post is very bias and based on opinion. Do you actually have numbers to support the amount of money made off Wintersday skins vs RNG skins from another event? Have you randomly polled the community to determine what the vast majority prefer? It also seems to be contradictory. You said that no one purchased the skins because they were not rare, but then that would make them rare – wouldn’t it? My counter argument is that everyone wants Super skins, but those skins were definitely not rare.
I don’t see how you can argue otherwise. We have a couple data points. We have Wintersday items and F&F skins, vs Halloween skins, and Fused weapons. Anet has the data for all 4 events. Are you honestly trying to imply that Anet chose to make the Southsun weapons RNG solely to tick off the players and make less money?
Anet is a business. They chose RNG, therefore we can say with certainty that they knew they were going to get more money from RNG then they were from direct purchase based on their past choices.
That is it. There is no other argument because that is the only thing that the decision is based on. And we have the answer because it was given to us by Anet in the form of RNG boxes.
Pay attention, do something other then stand in one spot and spam hundred blades, dodge occasionally; win.
My thief has like 14k health and 2k armor and I have only died once in about 8 hours of play there. I just wish the rest of the zones were like this, it makes the game so much more fun when you can’t just smash your face into the keyboard.
‘Pay attention’ says the n’th person to make a pointless reply unrelated to what I’ve said.
Not counting the nosedive into lava for the achievement I’ve died… maybe twice? Once that I remember, and I think the rest was just being downed. This thread is about things being annoying and tedious, not unbeatable. People are apparently having trouble with this concept.
…and why would I make a resilient build only to put a greatsword on it?
I clearly stated that I find the added difficulty and the actual use of mechanics fun. I do not find them tedious and boring, they are the most interesting part of southsun. I understood the point of the thread just fine, I just don’t agree with you.
There is a minimum dash distance of about half as long as the maximum. I haven’t had any problem with always dashing the full distance. It seems to work as described as long as you are over the minimum.
The 1 second root afterwords is kind of jarring imo, but I suspect it is to give other players a chance to catch up and to prevent players from just dashing in front of you and beating you down.
JQ has so many people on southsun that it took me 2 hours to get out of overflow.
Agreed, bought 70 and got 1 pet, and a ton of crafting materials, when all i wanted was the weapon ticket, piece of garbage chest, not falling for it again in the future.
Because of people like this it will never change. Why give a weapon skin or a mini to someone for 400 gems when you can give them a small chance at a weapon skin and people will spend 8400 gems trying to get it
8400/400 = 21 people would need to buy the skin for every 1 person like Graka that gambles.
400% MF and 5 crates in 3 hours.
That’s 600 gems worth of crates, I’d say the drop rate is pretty good.
How did you manage 400% MF?
Settler buff = 200%
Boost = 50%
Banner = 10%
Guild Buff = 10%
omom bars = 30%
Jewelery = 42%
5 runes of traveler = 50%
1 rune of the pirate = 10%
Explorer gear= 18% (I think)
Sigil of luck = 15%
Weapon = 3%
Utility slot = 20% (I think)
total = 458%
I don’t run with all of that so I am usually closer to 400% now.
I can guarantee you that Anet makes more money with gambling boxes then direct purchase skins. How do I come by this knowledge you ask? Simple…

They aren’t any rarer then any other RNG limited time box item. The southsun event skins from last time were available for less time and there are only a couple dozen on the TP yet they are almost worthless. The fused weapons can’t even be traded, so they really have no value other then to tell people you spend wayyy too much money in the gem store.
Prices are starting to rise since they are no longer available. I’d buy the cheaper ones for your collections now before they rise as well. The extra detail and definition from these dyes is noticeable, I hope they add more dyes in the future, I think southsun themed dyes could be really nice.
400% MF and 5 crates in 3 hours.
That’s 600 gems worth of crates, I’d say the drop rate is pretty good.
Clearly the majority of players dissagree with this post. Anet tried doing the whole buy skins directly thing for wintersday. Guess what, they weren’t rare since everyone could get them so no one bought them. It was a failure. Anet has repeatedly said that they will put things in the gem shop based on what players like to buy. Significantly more people spend more money at the chance for a rare skin then those who buy a skin everyone has access too directly.
You have no one to blame but the players themselves for this.
They tried that with wintersday. People cheerer and rejoiced that it wasn’t RNG, but then realized it wasn’t RNG and everyone could get the weapons so no one did since they weren’t rare. Anet made no money, so we went back to RNG where they make a lot of money. It’s fully the players decision, and they decided on RNG boxes.
Pay attention, do something other then stand in one spot and spam hundred blades, dodge occasionally; win.

I can win just about every match I go in to, sometimes by as much as a 250 point lead, but the only way I will ever see this achievement is if the lag gods smile upon me and freeze everyone in a giant lump. It should be changed to be holding the crab when the match ends.
1st place gets 5 karka shells and 2 greens or better
2-4 i think gets 1-5 shells and 1 green or better
5-8 gets only the grey junk item if i’m not mistaken
You were probably playing before the fix where it would award some people the first place prize no matter what.
At 400% MF i’m pulling in about 2 consortium crates an hour with about 4g an hour of additional loot, not counting ectos since I keep those. The boost is very noticeable.
They have already said that they might add back the molten dungeon as a fractal in the future.
The point of the living story content is that you aren’t paying a subscription. They want to keep you logging on and buying things out of the gem store every once in a while. If you can’t log on for 3-4 hours every 3 months then I don’t think the problem is really with the living story content, you simply don’t have enough time for video games.
I agree they should do this.
As for the plush backpack dilemma they can just prevent certain backs from being dyable if they are from the gem store.
If they ever did add agony to the open world they would add other, open world ways of obtaining it. It will most likely happen as part of an expansion, as a reason to do the expansion content without having to make a whole new tier of gear like in a typical expansion.
Yes this whole RNG situation is getting old. Each patch its the same story : minimal content added as reward for in-game activities – maximizing the grind of said activities to get the meager reward, and lots of cool stuff (i.e the “reward content” that most MMOs add as goals for doing their new game activities or increasing interest in underutilized ones) just crapped onto the store. And not directly obtainable but walled behind gambling mechanics. Don’t get me started on the “limited time” bullkitten. ANET is skating on some thin ice here.
lol did you manage to type that with a straight face?
I’m sorry if adding multiple hours of content every 2 weeks is minimal for you, but it is by far the fastest in the industry.
I’m not sure what you want reward wise… we have gotten many achievements, titles and new skins all as part of the ingame rewards. The only thing added to the gem shop has been minis and weapon skins, not exactly game breaking or more substantial.
Limited time is for some of the content, it leaves behind events and additions to the world, but it is meant for people to keep coming back. You aren’t paying a sub so I fail to see how this is an issue. It literally costs you nothing to come back whenever you desire to experience the new content.
The fact that you bought $50 worth of them after they have used RNG skins for the last 4 events is exactly why we have RNG skins. Tons of cash for them and the item stays rare so people keep trying to buy more. I do it based on if I like the event. If I enjoy the event I buy items related to it to show my support. If I don’t like the event or the method then I don’t buy.
I can say we started designing this, and realized the proper (not hacked in quick) solution needs to be a part of bigger systems that more clearly directs players as well as ties in comprehensive rewards for playing across our game world, which we’re currently working on right now.
