The problem with spvp for many of us pvers and wvwvwers is that it feels detached from the game… those exotic skins you worked hard for? Gone. That careful stat planning? Gone. Your racial abilities? Gone. It sacrifices a lot of things for the sake of “balance” and frankly I dont think it works given how unpopular hotm is.
Yes the new map may look fun, but still I dont feel like I am playing my hero character.. I get this lame outfit and I cant customize my stats the way they are in wvwvw.
They may chose to continue to create new maps, but the core problem will still exist. I would probably be more willing to try spvp if I could at least import my exotic skins and stats from wvwvw.
Hi Osicat, coming from WoW one of my favorite youtubers was a hunter that uploaded guides on how to beat x-class or x-spec, he arranged duels with other really good players and recorded them.
He started explaining that the class did and then the video of the duel with pauses explaining his desicions.
It would be nice if you did something like that because you are good at making desicions, since I only play mesmer I dont understand other class mechanics and I just do my shatter rotation and hope for the best.
My main troubles are phantasm mesmers, trap rangers and good thieves (99% of them kill themselves with confusion) pistol dagger are so annoying and I can never catch them.
We need duels outside of spvp, some of us like fighting friends with our customized gear, racial abilties and exotic skins. Some people love wvwvw and pvp but hate hotm and everything to do with it. Sorry but that thing that spawns in my place when I join hotm is NOT my character.
You are all talking from a zerg point of view, and frankly I dont think balancing should be studied from a zerg vs zerg perspective. Everyone either dies because of AOE spam or dont die because its so easy to rez downed people, add culling into the mix, its a very frustrating experience.
Zerg vs zerg is not fun, and should not be incouraged any further. Now, from a small group VS small group perspective, confusion is indeed overpowered, and as I said before it was adjusted for SPVP (perhaps a bit too harsh), but it should be adjusted in wvwvw as well since many of us small-group roamers end up in 1v1-5v5 situations, just like in spvp.
So I really think confusion is extremely powerful in wvwvw and wish people didnt attribute their loss to it when I win duels and 1v1s. Im not even a confusion mesmer but apparently a single cry-of-frustration shatter is enough to bring the most skilled players down.
I just dont understand why they would adjust the damage in spvp and NOT in wvwvw, whats the explanation? To me wvwvw is more about pvp than it is about pve.
People want to 1v1 outside spvp, forget about structured duels, that doesnt even make sense in WoW where they do allow you to duel your friends.
Maybe in a later expansion, apparently what the community really wants right now is new dungeons, new ascended items and new conquest mode maps.
Friendly reminder, if you are leveling alts and feel that the world is empty, guest on Tarnished Coast! Plenty of people completing events and zones and theres always people willing to help you in jumping puzzles.
I would normaly agree but:
1-Leveling is a core part of MMORPGs, lets you learn your class, make friends, etc…
2- Leveling in GW2 is pretty easy and fast, gearing up in this game is quick and painless compared to other mmorpgs.
3- Devs spent most of their time creating this beautiful world, it would be a shame if they implemented systems where you could just skip all of that and get to the “end-game”
In all.. I wish they didnt implement spvp the way they did where you start at max level and with all your skills, because now you have all these baddies constantly switching to the next OP class or OP build in just a few minutes. They didnt get the time to experimente and practice with all their skills so most of them really dont understand when is the correct time to use some abilities or utilities.
I encourage people not to use hot-join, its pretty lame when someone is dueling and a newcomer comes and spoils the fun with a cheap kill and stomp.
I remember seeing that video where the devs said there was an arena system at place at first in alpha or beta, but they said people werent interested enough so they designed conquest mode -_-
Imo, Arena would have been a great source of fun for me, add dueling into the mix and now you have a complete PVP game.
Dueling shouldnt be restricted just to HotM imo.
Some of us enjoy fighting in wvwvw and not in spvp, one reason is my character, I worked hard to get my exotic skins and all that progress goes away when I go into HotM, my heroic character suddenly turns into a lvl 5 squire with horrible clothes.
Another reason is racial abilities, I know some wvwvw players that duel with them and it would seem unfair to implement dueling only inside HotM for them, they pretty much designed their gear and traits around them.
There is no need for culling apparently, just a clever use of mechanics
i wont pay money or gold to duel my friends so I will continue to use free spvp maps, dueling should have been here from the start, its a core element in mmorpgs to help us learn classes and practice with builds without interruptions
i wish arenanet gave us the option to duel anywhere we want except cities

Unlike what some people might think, this does not worsen the culling. The data of every dye is already being sent everywhere but is only masked to us to make new players figure out enemies easier.
So if you want to see how your enemies REALLY look, you can switch team colors off via game options menu.

The guild is indeed called Professionalz, and after dueling with several of them I can vouch that they don’t like losing and when they do they make excuses and act like 12 year olds that drank way too much Cool-aid.
Yes, even the guild leader acted that way with me. When I defeated him he called me a noob, made excuses about “not fighting seriously” and refused to rematch after he finally managed to kill me.

spvp maps are the only way but its frustrating having our duels interrupted by people that want to play conquest
plus im sure they dont like being yelled at for joining a dueling server and killing someone in the middle of a fight
also I for one would like to fight my friends in the open world too, with my hard-earned exotic skins and using my racial abilities, thats not possible in spvp

Claiming dueling will turn people into invite spam bots is a wild exageration and a silly reason to not implement dueling.
Its as simple as adding an option to auto-decline all duel invites. Duelists will find a secluded place, most likely cool or big open areas like coliseums and hang in there.
The fact that players are actively trying to find ways to circumvent the restrictions of PvP should be reason even to implement the features.
pretty much, if players wants to have fun they should encourage it, not discourage it.
some people are not into it, but why opose the addition? after all its only optional, im not into pve much but I never complain when they add a new dungeon
Since conquest mode doesnt appeal to me, the only reason I join HotM is to actively seek low pop servers and duel. Be it 1v1, or team 2v2, 3v3. If a server has 4 or lower players, most chances are is that they are dueling, practicing.
But we are constantly being interrupted by people joining our games to play conquest mode, and they barge in our duels and get cheap kills and that is very frustrating.
Arenanet, its been ages since we had a word from you regarding dueling, can you please tell us any news about it?
I know private servers are coming, but thats not the to-go solution for dueling, with all these friends rooms being private or passworded, how will I find people dueling in the future?
I really wish we had this open public place where we can invite people into duels. Or just let us duel like in WoW out there in the open (except cities). We all know the game is balanced around group play but thats not the point, we want to duel for practice, learning classes better, coach friends or just have fun without all that “hold this point” mechanic.
Every online MMO is balanced around group-play, yet they all have dueling systems and none of them do any harm to the game.
Dueling helps people learn and understand other classes, it allows friends to have fun or to coach them, right now the only way to fight my friends is to use sPVP (which takes the fun away of fighting with your hard-earned exotic skins) and play in the maps and being constantly harassed and interrupted by people that join to play the conquest mode legit.
God knows why they didnt implement dueling, along with other standard features that you would expect from an mmorpg on this age
Mesmer? Try f4 stomp.
Even without interruptions, the guy will get rezzed before I even finish the stomping animation
So I was on my way to the BL JP and I get jumped by 2 enemy players, I managed to down one player but his friend started rezzing him… seeing as stomping takes a while I decided to DPS him but he gets rezzed quickly, this happened 2 times in a row and eventually gave up and got myself killed.
It would be nice if the game rewarded me for playing to the best of my ability, but why bother? Its horrible game design that you have to kill a player TWICE, and its even more horrible that rezzing downed people is so fast and effective compared to stomping or dps killing.
I will never understand why arenanet separates wvwvw from spvp, confusion needs to be nerfed in wvwvw but not 60% like in spvp, confusion in spvp is pretty weak in my opinion. A 40% nerf should be fine (in both spvp and wvwvw, so buff and nerf respectively)
Just logging to say Thank You Josh Foreman for adding these jumping challenges into the game, its so rare to see an MMO do it and they are extremely fun to explore
The only thing I would like to see if some waypoint markers to the puzzles, I wish I didnt have to minimize the game and open the WIKI to see where I need to go to explore a new JP.
Look at WoW, it has first-person view and I have never seen any youtube video with someone playing with that camera. I dont think they did anything to the animations or weapons, they simply fixed the camera infront of the character and called it a day, and that was enough to make players happy.
same with rangers and necromancers, they both thought they were a joke of a class and without any substantial changes people just learned how to play the class and make good builds
why not allow the camera to go into first person if you zoom in enough? those of us that love taking screenshots of places or people will love that change and will help some people with the puzzles
even if you made wow population the same size as guild wars 2, the wow PVP scene would be much bigger by a large margin

Maps are convoluted and confusing so that scares new players, and are not fun.
They should have started with Death match, we already have conquest mode with wvwvw.

This game should have been shipped with deathmatch first and conquest on a later expansion, not the other way around. People are losing interest quickly and having conquest as our only mode really doesnt help

exactly, I always lost against thieves but thanks to all the 1v1 fights I had in spvp maps and wvwvw I learned how to play against them
dueling helps people learn, and allows friends to have fun… why the game didnt include dueling boggles me
horrible title, but generally as a mesmer rangers pose no threat to me, but I fought this one ranger on a dueling spvp map and he beat me every time..
Just like elementalists, Rangers need to figure out the best builds and strategies…. elementalists complained so long and then one guy uploads a video of him owning people with his dagger/dagger build and now look at them… without any changes to their class the majority of them learned to play the correct way.
WoW isnt balanced around 1v1 either, yet they have duels and you always see people brawling outside orgrimmar or stormwind, people KNOW its not balanced, but they want to duel their friends, practice new builds… in a lot of situations in spvp and wvwvw you end up in 1v1 fights.
Not having duels only makes joining into some spvp maps annoying be cause people are dueling and they DONT want to be bothered. I like dueling but I hate having to join SPVP maps for it, and it sucks that I cant fight my friends with my REAL armor in pve.

Right, this is NOT priority. but it woudl be nice.
Priority is not an issue given how relatively easy it is to implement dueling
1- code to make 2 players enemies by right clicking on the portrait and selecting “Duel”
2- code to make the defeated player stand up upon defeat
3- code to make the pve people block all incoming duel requests
Arenanet’s programers could probably finish this before they even go out for lunch on a single work’s shift

People want to fight their friends in 1v1 battles without interruptions, and friends want to watch said fights to learn or coach their buddies. Some folks might not like duels but many of us enjoy them.
Sadly the only ways to do that is to join spvp servers and be a bother to everyone else…. or to find a secluded place in wvwvw and be a bother to everyone else by not contributing to the battle and just wasting space slots.

1- “We are assassins, you are not supposed to see us coming!”
2- “We are so fragile, so we need to kill fast to compensate for our lack of surviability!” (lol)

I love this game and I will probably never go back to WoW because Guild Wars 2 does so many things right.
That being said, I miss PVP in WoW… battlegrounds are extremely fun, arenas are fun, and dueling is fun. In guild wars 2 there is no dueling, there are no arenas, spvps are boring and the only reason I still play is exploration, jumping puzzles and wvwvw.
I only go to wvwvw for the jumping puzzles, its always fun to engage in battles there.

most online mmorpgs are designed around team play, but that doesnt change the fact that many of us prefer to roam solo. I hate running in big groups, the zergs are boring and I feel like I dont make any difference.
People play wvwvw or spvp because they like fighting, and I can assure you that most of our memorable experiences were epic 1v1 or 1v2 or 1v3 fights.
Its okay if you are not interested in duels, its not for you but it means a big deal for many of us, I dont like PVE in this game that much but I wouldt mind if they add more dungeons.

This is beyond stupid. If they do this, I might just retire my mesmer and seeing as it’s the only class I like, might even consider quitting.
They are going the WoW route, instead of balancing, they are homogenizing classes. Everyone will do everything.
There’s already little reason to bring a mesmer along instead of another class.
