For mesmers, its conditions and speed. And I am totally fine with that because we have a lot of good strenghts, so it puzzles me when people say things like “they nerf us but they dont fix our speed or give us condition removal? l2balance arenanet”.
Everyone calls for buffs but no one admits when their class is too strong or when they need a weakness.
What is your class and what should your weakness be?
get rune of the centaur, cast mantra heal every 10 seconds, enjoy perma swiftness
good: no flying mounts, encouraging exploration
bad: fast-travel waypoints in every inch of the map, making the world feel small and uneventful
good: no holy-trinity, encouraging player skill and not player class.
bad: no team-work at all, encourages zerker.
good: separating PVP and PVE.
bad lack of incentive for pvers to try pvp renders the spvp community dead.
good: new spvp map modes introduced regularly
bad: all of them are conquest mode, which frankly, we are all tired of already.
good: introduces new zones into the world for us to explore.
bad: doesnt attach vistas or hearts to it, making them less fun to complete.

Greatsword / Sword-Pistol
So I have been playing shatter since day 1, but recently decided to try the Maximized Hybrid Phantasm Build because conditions were wrecking me and I wanted a slice of the PU pie (prismatic understanding). I found the play-style very engaging, instead of being all aggressive with the shatters I was now carefully playing the hide and seek game and letting my hard hitting phantasms do all the dirty work.
But I missed the shatters, so I made this build up combining the best of both worlds.
It has the key shatter traits such as Mental Torment and Illusionary Persona.
It has decent condition removal with the Dec10 improved Mender’s Purity. (now removes 2 conditions on heal.)
It also has phantasmal fury and sharper images for extra damage via bleed stacks and harder hitting phantasms.
I decided to duel with it and it was surprisingly effective. I start the fights playing the phantasm mesmer staying at range and summoning my phantasms, as soon as a window opens I illusionary leap into their faces and hit mind wrack/blurred frenzy. The utilities will help you stay away and recast the phantasms so you can restart the cycle again.
its a nice heal but Ether Feast is still my favorite, with mender’s purity I can now remove 2 conditions on a 20 sec cool down, on top of being a very powerful heal that almost always fills me up
Seriously Arenanet, the only reason I refuse to try sPVP is because you remove my armor set, I worked so hard to get, once I step in the mysts and look like a lvl 1 all over again.
Why on earth would you do that in the jumping puzzles too? It almost feels like you take away my beloved character and replace it with someone completely different.
Are you worried some people will wear big obstrusive clothes? Make it like the halloween JP then where everyone else besides you is a cloud…but no, you also had to remove our clothes in the halloween update too, which makes no sense at all.
best addition to the game since release.
its also a nice way to discover overpowered builds, as most people there are running the cheesiest builds they can find to win 1v1. (spirit rangers, condi necros, stun warriors, PU mesmers) etc.
its fine as it is, give it a week or two for the trolls and curious guilds to get bored with it

Now that they are adding a place for guild vs guilds, it would be nice if we had the option to duel our friends from our own sever.
simply remove +40% condition duration food already, its too powerful a buff for clicking on a food.
the game will be easier to balance when you dispatch of such broken elements

how are you getting 15 secs of stealth with this? I only get 8-9 seconds.
(thats asuming I take off the trait that gives 2 init when doing each HS, because thats how its going to be after dec 10)

what killed this game for me was the major buff to conditions
“what utilities will I bring?” “how should I open?” “when should I disengage” are questions I asked myself some months ago whenever I faced an opponend… but right now? Its all about “how many condition removal my class has?”
conditions should never have been worked as a primary source of damage, it lets these classes have tanky stats while doing insane damage. conditions should always have been a secondary source of damage.
its even worse in wvwvw where condition duration is mandatory in food and runes…. if you dont have those then you are a dead man. its just sad how power builds are useless right now
Im okay with the nerf in opportunist, the problem is they are not giving us anything in return for the loss of initiative. the buff to ini regen is not enough to cover the huge loss

I know its a different apple, but I loved defending in WG and AB in wow bgs, but defending in this game is just…. boring

This kitten ed me off… I worked hard to get my armor and look the way I want to. This is why I dont like spvp, but now I have to stare at an ugly impostor wearing lvl 1 armor in a jumping puzzle? That a kittenty desicion

great news, i have been waiting for this since release
I cant enjoy wvwvw anymore because of the bloodlust buff, I very much liked roaming before and finding people to duel or take a small group by myself, but not anymore I guess. This mechanic rewards the alraedy strong server and punishes those with lesser numbers. This does not encourage player skill at all.
I cant enjoy spvp because of the condition meta. Everyone stacks condition toughness vitality for maximum damage while having high surviavility. All burst specs right now are practically useless no matter how skilled you are. Conditions do crazy damage and you only need 1 stat to be effective.
I cant enjoy PVE because of the challenge, dungeons in guild wars 2 are only fun if you play with dedicated friends… but as someone who doesnt socialize much, running PUGs are very frustrating. Also, bosses have ridiculous ammounts of health, so only high DPS builds are encouraged in this game.
The lastest SAB event, well, we all know how it went… the first one was great tho.
Overall, I dont like the direction this game is taking. Everything that needs to be done is being ignored and stuff no one asked for (bloodlust) is being added. I still think this is the best MMO out there, which makes it even more frustrating for me to not see this game being pushed into its full potential.

I have been trying to find good videos (1vx) on this board, but all the comments and replies go among the likes of “this wasn’t impressive.” This is different on the Mesmer forums where often people give good criticism and praise (not that i want a debate here.. its just what I see on these boards)

I found shortbow to be the best leveling weapon. AoE, decent as both a power and contain weapon. And it can inflict weakness which makes you pretty survivable.
The sneak attack is pretty good too.
Yes short-bow is effective, but it requires you to aim, press one button and press it again to detonate it, all while strafing. But doing so thousands of times on your way to lvl 80 can become quite tedious…
Death Blossom just requires you to press one button, once. Much more relaxing, you can watch your favorite tv show playing a death blossom build, but short bow will require more attention and more button clicks.
I am currently level 60, I have tried all the recommended leveling builds so far… the most popular on this board is sword/pistol, and next cluster-bomb spam build and dagger pistol build. I got tired of sword pistol since it was dead boring, yes you will never die but leveling should be about killing stuff quickly and traveling from point A to point B as fast as possible.
Say no to all of those builds and go with Death Blossom and stack that condition damage up. Mobs drop like flies and its much easier to use than cluster bomb, I just cant relax and enjoy myself having to detonate those bombs. Death blossom kills them just as fast, while evading their attacks, with just a press of a button.
any other ideas?
So I am leveling a thief and I am enjoying it so far at lvl 50, but I have to start thinking ahead!
I like spending my time solo, finding people to duel in wvwvw, roaming and hanging out in the EB jumping puzzle trolling people.
With that said, whats the best build-gear-stats-weapons for it? (i dont like spvp or pve)

conditions offer huge reward for little risk, all you need is one stat, and most appliances are so passive.. you really dont need to be a good player to succeed…
now look at burst specs, no matter how good they play or how perfectly-timed their skills are, they will lose to easy-mode condition classes, you are pretty much forced to swap all your utilities and runes to cleanse conditions and lower its durations… burst classes are dead.
the game is in such a horrible state… passive > active.
I wish they would just do away with spvp,
spvp is like a sick pet that needs to be put down… hes not going to make it so just stop wasting medicine on it.
pve is fun and dandy, but its not the reason people keep coming back to the game. the pve folks are the first ones to quit the game once they have done the content, they get quickly bored of doing the same things.
wvwvw IS the reason people come back. the wvwvw scene is that gives life to this game, GW2 should concentrate all its resources to make wvwvw as good as possible!
Too many nerfs to shatter to make it worthwhile, not to mention the whole synergy with trying to get condition clears and make an effective shatter build. Shattered conditions is a grandmaster trait in the phantasm build line, wth? Then you need 30 in illusions for the persona. Leaves u 10 points that have to go in dom for mental torment. But now you dont have deceptive evasion which is a must.
This leaves you with a really poor build that needs to be changed, nothing in dueling for the damage u need, no quicker recharge on any weapon set, no deceptive evasion. So u drop the persona to pick up 10 points in dueling for blade training, but you are losing the damage of an extra clone shatter.
So you ditch the shattered conditions and run with null field every 40 seconds and sacrifice your runeset/food buffs to deal with them(heres a hint you are still going to die to them), and are pretty much forced into greatsword even though ud rather run staff for the extra survivability granted by phase retreat. I mean with blurred frenzy nerf u are going to need it.
So bunker down, strap on some condi dmg runes(pick a set), equip a staff, scepter and torch and spam those condi’s and stealth.

I am someone that completed every jumping puzzle in pve and could manage to beat the halloween clocktower puzzle with 80% success rate. But SAB world 2 is just a big mess and failure… I applaud for them for trying, but seriously… they need to rework the difficulty.
