Is something being worked out? Yes I am a mesmer, and I am having a really bad time doing events in Orr, mainly because theres so many people throwing AOE and I cant tag any mobs at all…
Is the solution simply rolling another class? Mesmer is my only lvl 80 and I dont intend to play another class, im sure other classes have trouble tagging mobs in Orr as well.
Does Arenanet aknowledge the issue? I like this game very much but farming in Orr is pretty crucial for me as being a lvl 80 is quite expensive… it really gives me a bad taste of mouth me pressing all my skills at the best of my ability and not being rewarded for it.
I really enjoy your videos and I am slowly transitioning from condition mesmer to shatter mesmer thanks to you and your playstyle which works very well in world vs world
Just two questions:
1- What stats am I looking for? Power and Crit? Is 40% crit chance good enough or do I need more? What about condition damage?
2- Is there a big reason I should pick compounding power (3% more damage per ilusion) over Precise Wrack (+10% crit chance on mind wrack) ? For a build focused on shatters, id imagine 10% more crit chance on my main damage source would be essential
Thanks in advance
TIL some people hate jumping puzzles
Seriously? They are probaby one of the best features this game has to offer. No one is forcing you to do them
Would be nice if we got to celebrate other holidays in cities other than Lion’s Arch. Im sure many artists and modelers poured their souls into creating such wonderful home towns.. but they are so barren!
confirmed, just tested some jumps and the trait does infact allow me to jump from heights that would otherwise kill me
How does the “Take half fall damage” work exactly? Does it let me jump from higher heights? Or is there a fixed distance where the player absolutely dies regardless of the trait?
fix or no fix, stop complaining guys, you make all mesmer players look bad
we are an amazing class with great strengths, all classes must have weaknesses, ours is AOE and Speed.. learn to live with it and play with the cards you have
Im glad with these changes, with all the QQ about mesmers I was afraid Arenanet was going to cater to the baddie’s complaints and nerf us
the OP doesnt seem to understand the Thief class very well
I wish we had some sort of halloween instruction manual.
So where are these new puzzles?
I really need some directions
Everything I find looks either dirty or rusty, I wish there was a site that let me see all the sword models.. and no, the gw2bd.com is full of bugs and the preview in 3D shows mostly incorrect matches
When I got rune of the centaur, it drastically improved my enjoyment of the mesmer class, combined with its 20% increased swiftness uptime and mirror heal on a short cooldown, I am running with swiftness almost 90% of the time. Plus its stats are not bad either, more power and bleed duration. I am drifting away from condition damage as I think its not that effective in PVP compared to burstier shatters.
I am currently at 1,764 power
and
1,479 presicion (31% crit with staff, 37% with sword/pistol)
853 condition damage.. just for the note.
10 (mind wrack)
20 (clone on dodge)
20 (20% faster staff recharge)
0
20 (ilusionary elasticity)
I originally intented to be a condition mesmer, but the more I do world vs world, the more I realize condition damage doesnt work for my tastes and shattering does way more damage than waiting for those bleeds to tick.
Should I get more power or presicion? Also, is illusionary persona indispensable? Because if I take Ilusionary persona, I would have to drop either 20% faster staff recharge… I love my staff and never liked the greatsword really.
bah, i did press ctrl + F and typed “thief” to make sure it wasnt already posted
A little unrelated to the issue, but what about giving an option to reduce spell and particle effects? Tt will certainly help with the FPS when theres a lot of action going on in wvw

Is this fair? Why is a particular class allowed such a huge advantage? Stealth was an absurdly broken mechanic on another really popular mmorpg until they tuned it down 6 years later.. why is the same mistake being repeated on a new game?
No class should be allowed to escape danger this easily. Give thieves more sustained defense while making stealth more managable to the enemies.

hopefully they will pay attention to this
I always thought flying mounts killed the sense of wonder in World of Warcraft… worlds seem much smaller and less threatening when you can just fly over all of it
When I heard Guild Wars 2 was not going to include flying mounts and all had to be on foot, i thought to myself “finally, a developer gets it!”
But its much worse in this game… flying over obstacles? How about you just teleporting to it. I understand some people dont have enough time. I actualy like waypoints, but the way they implemented it doesnt feel right for me.
There is also too many of them. A map should have only 3 or 1 waypoints max for each zone. There is no need to have a waypoint to every single location in the zone. You can teleport from anwhere, anytime. This is worse than flying mounts, because if you end up in a dangerous spot, you can just teleport out of it. I wish you could only teleport if you are standing near the waypoint… you know, like a taxi hub.
thieves
you can go invisible and spam your most bursty move.. its almost like playing with gm commands lol
no seriously, they are annoying
TagYu, I originally was using GS and staff while leveling, but it came down to this.. they dont synergize well toguether. Your staff will be your main source of damage, with that in mind.. sword + pistol/focus offers much more utility to compliment your staff abilities. Also focus swiftness is very valuable for leveling and get to places faster.
To the user defending GS, I am not saying is terrible… I am just saying staff has better offense and much better defense.
1- It’s autoattack is loud, hearing “BSHM-KSHMMM-KSHMMM!!” every second is not particularly enjoyable.
2- The range mechanic of autoattack is unfun. In a lot of situations (pvp or pve) you wont be able to get max-range damage.
3- Number 2 ability is nice I guess, but phase retreat is a million times better for clone generation. Not only you get a clone but pretty much have a blink-teleport every 6 seconds traited!
4- Number 3 ability is pretty meh… why is it a targetable ability? The AOE range isnt big, it should just instantly cast on your selected target. I guess Staff has also a “meh” ability with Chaos Armor.
5- Phantasmal Berserker is great, ill give you that. But its pretty much the only outstanding thing the greatsword has to offer.
6- Illusionary Wave… a push on a long cooldown with no additional effects.. Chaos storm is a million times better than this.
So overall, why people choose GS over staff? Am I missing something? Staff users also benefit a lot more from ilusionary elasticity (bouncing abilities bounce twice). Also we have seen people farm faster with staff than with GS, a staff user can kill multiple mobs much quicker than a greatsword user ever could.
I can see how greatsword might be “as good” as staff for PVP, the staff projectile is very slow.. but mesmer’s strenght in wuvwuv isnt in its damage but to provide awesome utility to your teammates.
Thoughts?
same, its incredibly frustrating having to run the most annoying dungeon only to crash on that boss fight.. all that time wasted
also, why dont blossoms die when you shoot them with many weapons? Until they fix that, please remove them.
I take the holy trinity over this “dodge in 0.2 seconds or die” system.
They should add a “Random Dungeon”, doing said random dungeon grants you 60 tokens which you can spend on whatever dungeon merchant you want.
Im tired of running Twilight Arbor… and I dont want to run the other dungeons because I dont want nothing from them, and for me they are way too hard and its not worth all the frustration and deaths.
Didnt notice this thread so im just gonna copy my thoughts here:
I understand, the problem is… I am always running Twilight Armor because thats the only set of armor I actually want for me.
I wish I could run the other dungeons as well, but dungeons are really hard and why would I bother? I have no use for those tokens.
I kinda wish there was a good incentive for me to run the other dungeons as well while still working for my twilight arbor set.
I hate to make comparasions, but with WoW, I always enjoyed the LFG tool, you could run all sorts of dungeons and they all helped into getting the gear you wanted.
Devs dont want people running the same dungeons over and over, but thats just whats happening to me with the current system.

staff + sword/focus…
I really wish staff projectiles traveled faster… greatsword is okay i guess but its way too noisy for me, i cant stand the sound of its autoattack triggering every second.
the mask is soulbound so i doubt that will work
When I created my mesmer I had a very nice mask and sold it thinking I would be able to find more later in the game.. but alas, I havent and I miss it dearly.
Is there a way to get back my mask? I am already lvl 80 so starting a new toon is out of the question
Looks interesting. But why not swap the greatsword for scepter+pistol? GS doesnt offer much…. 2 is okay, 3 is mediocre and 5 is just a push with no other effect to it.
They do the color thing because 1, you have to render that many more colors 2, it creates a sense for unity against a certain enemy, and 3, it allows you to tell what you are fighting at a glance without having to actually read Henge of Denravi Invader and so on. i still suggest dressing up your asura. Skins can still be seen and colors are always seen on your own team. My guild actually has a set of guild colors and people begin to associate with that on your team, also creating a larger sense of unity. Plus it is fun!
You don’t see enemies names so this doesn’t end up like other games where everyone trash talks everyone else. If you are so close to your former foe, you will most certainly recognize them or their play style/skins. (I can most times, and they can too!) I would rather not see their names, then have to come back to the forums full of: “TOBLE WHAT A HACKING kitten ONE SHOT AGIAN!?” Or “Slayerjerk123, you suck so bad lololol1!!!1!11!!” how clogged would our WvWvW forums be after that?
As for the base of operations, it isn’t very hard to create your own and I think Arenanet intended for alliances to be self-organized since there isn’t an official “Alliance” function in GW2. I’m sure Henge has one, I know NSP has one getting up and running soon and I am sure many others have forums either up or in the works. It’s something you should take up with your alliance. Plus, think on it; if it was moderated by Anet staff, how do they know that other teams don’t just make a noob account on your server to listen in on your personal strategies. They don’t. You, moderating your own, could have a more classified section for commander chat and so on and will be able to personally watch who knows what, making things a lot less difficult in the long run.
1- Im pretty sure rendering colors on clothing does not affect performance at all… look at other mmorpgs. Hell, look at other games. Its just a color, a single mesmer chaos storm is more resource heavy than rendering the color dyes of 1,000 people.
2- Trash talk will always exist, no matter the game.. its even possible in GW2, they can just right click your name and send you a whisper. Again, look at World of Warcraft, you are not allowed to talk to the opossing faction in bgs or world pvp, but they can still see your name and your actual armor. Has this been detrimental to its rivalry quality? No. It actually enhances it as it makes war more personal.
3- I really believe you are just nay-saying for the sake of it.. so you are now actually against arenanet giving forums to each world? Other MMORPGS offer forums each server and it has many positives to it. I just dont see how you are rationalizing this… I cant take you seriously sorry. Its thanks to people like you that games dont improve.
Then just give them the option to hide their names? Just because a few babies feel hurt when they die we all shouldn’t have to be forced to protective masks to hide our heads.
I just cant follow the logic of some people here…
All the opposing ideas in this thread are from people who dont want to feel offended… seriously, if you are the type of guy that gets offended easily, you shouldnt be playing MMORPGs or any online multiplayer games for that matter… the anymosity on this game strips the fun away from all of us that are mature enough to see it only was sibling playfulness.
Thieves… a class that has so much burst shouldn’t be able to have that mobility and easy escapes.
On behalf of Tarnished Coast I'd like to apologize to Crystal Desert in Dragonbrand Borderlands

I am no programmer, but would it be hard for Arenanet to write something like:
“if player traveled (impossible distance here) with no waypoint or mesmer portal, ban”
Happened to me a few hours ago.. I imagined it would be just the game taking its time to render but its not normal if it takes more than 10 seconds. Its like the game forgets that it should render players.
Thats like saying we should ban TV because of violent programming.
You can also be griefed in Lion’s Arch chat, maybe we should get rid of global chat as well? The best solution is to ignore the trolls and move on.
I agree Samfisher, I want to remember players and I want players to remember me. Spamming emotes can easily be fixed so that shouldnt be an issue at all, just silence players if they spam it and thats it.
People still dance on your corpse when you die. And a few matches ago I saw people spamming emotes. So thats your argument thrownout the window right there. I just wish the characters I play against had faces and names.
I am having fun in wuvwuv lately having dinged 80 (didnt want to try it out while leveling). It really surprised me when I noticed I cant see enemies names or their real clothing.. they all wear blue or green. All this presents some issues:
1Why bother dressing up my female asura as intimidating as possible if my enemies will see her with just regular red clothing? Why include things like transmutation stones then? Sure your friends can see you that way, but still… I just dont get it.
Why cant I see my enemies names? I might have found a former foe from a few games before when we crossed our paths and engaged in an epic battle, but I wouldn’t even know it was him if I ever bump into him again.
This combined with the single-color armour makes it feel like I am fighting regular NPCs instead of actual human beings.
I also thought, cant remember where I read it, that arenanet would give each world their own official forums as sort of their offline “base of opperations” I thought it would be wonderful and make it easier to plan strategies, or guild recruitment or barracks talk, or just get to know my world’s inhabitants better outside of the game, but still no sign of them… sure people are free to make unofficial forums but it wouldnt have the same impact or viewers as would official forums in this same site.
I like this game a LOT, but these 3 things really irk me… what are your thoughts?
Sorry for my english
i only play a mesmer but im fine with this patch, mesmer is one of the most powerful classes (if not, the most)
Buy I do agree our damage in pve is very low.
The solution seems simple… reduce our surviability and increase our sustained damage. The same with frost mages in WoW so hopefully arenanet will be quick about it.
kylia, i loved your video, could you share your traits? im interested in trying a confusion mesmer too!
wow its like we are playing the same class
the only times i ever died as a mesmer is against champions
as i leveled, i killed slow but i never died and i didnt feel like it took too long to complete zones…
use staff to kill mobs, stack conditiom damage, trait for condition and staff damage and shatter damage, and use sword / focus as your weapon swap so you can walk faster to places.
I never noticed this until I read this thread, and I have died plenty of times.. I always assumed something was obstructing the camera
but now that you mention it, i like it, it creates a dramatic effect
Your health reached 0, you dont need privileges, downstate is a luxury in this game so there is no need make it even more strong.
I like games within games, and this is the icing on a delicious cake that is GW2
Will more jumping puzzles be added into the future? It would be nice if jumping puzzles would count into zone completion. I wasnt aware that some puzzles existed until I read the wiki.
My only character is a mesmer and sometimes I like to hang out on the harder puzzles and help people out. Its kinda fun to see how other classes use their abilities to get ahead obstacles, like the engineer jump shot or the dancing sword thingy warriors do.
Love jumping puzzles, best surprise this game offered me, keep them coming
How so?
Two of the best youtube videos of mesmers fighting multiple mobs have been condition builds, and in fact, one of them was a counter-video to prove that condition builds kills multiple mobs faster than a power/greatsword build
Heres one of them:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDpEbcBoWkA&feature=player_detailpage#t=41s
heres another
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-B3mkM7dqM&feature=player_detailpage#t=1083s
I have no doubt that if you have a power crit phantasm burst spec will kill a single target faster if you blow all your cooldowns, but after that if you jump to the next monster your damage will be weak as you wait for all your cooldowns again. I am looking for a build that can jump from mobs to mobs with minimal downtime
(edited by aaron.7850)
I am trying to focus on condition – bleed build using sword-focus / Staff. But I am afraid I am not using my spec to the fullest.
I am level 50 and so far I have the +20% mind wrack trait, illusionary elasticity and Sharper Images.
Since mesmer is the only class I have played so far, I have no idea if I am killing stuff fast enough. I can imagine a phantasm build being slower because you are reliant on phantasm cooldowns to actually do damage wheras a condition staff build you are ALWAYs doing decent damage.
I guess my real question is.. is sharper images ESSENTIAL for a condition mesmer? I saw the prometheus mesmer guides but he totally skipped those traits.
Im glad someone made this thread, the reality is.. no one ever remembers the “serious” sounding names, as hard as they try to make people take them seriously, they are simply forgettable.
I think it would encourage a more solid community from the worlds. Other MMORPGs have them so I see no reason why GW2 shouldnt, considering wvwvw is huge part of the game.
day 4, still bugged.
