That’s a stupid statement. DD eles are the only spec right now that can put high sustain and high damage on an on point fight. DD eles need a nerf and so do burns.

I disagree because it was a well thought of statement. I’ve criticized eles for a long time. Don’t know much about you but I play and familiarize myself with builds before I raise any issues about them.

Eles were tankier w better heals and higher hp pool pre-patch. Also pre-patch main source of damage were lightning whip and drakes breath. When I’m alert, I use burning speed blast combos.

dd celes are glassier now and if their burn damage gets scaled back too far, the build will underwhelm. I think fixing the RoF bug is fair. Maybe even reduce the stack to 2.

I don’t wish certain builds to get nerf nuked to the ground because they counter my main or because I don’t understand their mechanics. Slight adjustments are healthier; a good example of that is the adjustment to air/fire sigils.

hotjoin is where you go when you have given up on life and completely hate yourself.

Or instead of nerfing ele, enhance other classes’ access to burn dmg. But the buggy RoF stacks should still be looked at though

Ok, I’ve had it with all the hate…so I’m gonna address some of the accusations being throw around against eles and hope this helps people appreciate were not monsters but players.

On this past weeks I’ve been playing conquest and dueling against pretty much every class out there, my skill level is normal (not an ubber player, so i can represent every elementalist jumping on the hype train, and so you know ele is my main since forever). In this weeks I’ve been insulted, accused of cheating, received rude comments due to asking for practice vs experienced players (God forgive u ask to practice defensive moves while playing D/D)..and even so I came here so I can at least try to separate fact from fiction:

1) Eles are OP

Yes we are, at this moment we have (always had great sustain) and we also manage to deal tons of damage (burning) and also we shine in team fights and can drag fights on points as we see fit.

2) Burning damage is OP on ele

Yes it is, would love to see it reduced (less burn stacks so we don’t destroy condition based builds), we shouldn’t have so much dps as an attrition class

3)Eles have too many sustain

STOP! NO just no…this game is already fast and furious enough…we need some classes to be able to be on point and not melt in 10 seconds flat to a spike…we and guardian bunkers are needed and have a role to play…what we shouldn’t have is sustain and DPS.

4)Eles require no skill, u just need to learn to learn combos and there u go

Are u kidding me???? u need to keep track of cooldowns know when and where not to skip rotations to avoid/deal a spike and return to optimal rotation, u need to manage the smallest health pool of the game knowing that when you’re spiked u have about 10 seconds to react or your dead…I don’t ask for u guys to love eles but this is just wonkers…until the latest balance patch we were considered one of the hardest classes to play and no one contested this…balance patch hits and we no longer take skill…righttttttt

5)PU mesmers and stealth regen thiefs that say that healing on ele is cheesy….

Come on guys…seriously? Seems to me there’s no difference in outhealing while kitting or disappearing and regen health as you need thus resetting the fight.

6)D/D eles win every duel…

Not true at all but we can drag fights so reinforcement come and thus turn a 1vs1 into a team fight…that is our ROLE. Several matchups are pretty bad for us:

PU mesmers
Shatter mesmers
Berzerker thiefs
Berzerker warriors
Condition and celestial necros

If they know what they are doing they are able to out pressure the ele forcing us to play for time, eventually in a 1 vs 1 duel they will gain the upper hand.

7) Warriors on duels that complain when an ele ports to safety in a duel

Ok…I can see where u come from If i stand there in your face u can kill me
faster…but…ermmm hope you don’t take this the wrong way, against you guys we need to kite…and hit when there’s no pressure on us. That is kinda the standard, mesmers do it, thiefs do it…why all the hate when an ele does it too? I also have an warrior and when i face an enemy that doesn’t port and kite i get annoyed because i know that isn’t a good duel, and if I’m dueling i want to fight good players so i can learn.

The moment you listed as berserker thieves as a counter to ele was the moment you lost your credibility as a good ele considering you hard counter them.

You beat me to it… was about to say the same thing. I’ve seen eles 1v2 thieves and come out unscathed.

Burning is not broken. Ele burning is broken.

Burn guards can do heavy damage with but they are very squishy. Necros have an easier time killing these than eles.

d/d Eles apply burning from the ground via RoF, traited cleansing fire, cleansing fire, drakes breath AND still have high sustain. ele burns = Low CD, lots of sources for burn dmg, higher stacks

Engies can apply serious burns as well but the sources of burning dmg are limited and have a long CD.

Warrior LB burning is meh. Duration short, stacks are low

Ranger burns are meh. 25s CD on torch 5 and flame trap 15s CD. Damage by single stack pulse instead of quick multi-stack

This bug is so old I’ve lost hope it’ll get fixed so I just prepare for the rally and focus him down. Tables turned, it is nice getting rallied by it from time to time.

For the love of g*d do not remove hojo rewards, do not remove hojo button.

Hotjoiners will ruin what little discipline people have in unranked/ranked matches. There needs to remain a practice area. Once they are comfortable with their abilities, they eventually get sick of the flaws of hojo and graduate to unranked/ranked on their own.

Let them progress naturally not force them.

Burning will be extremely underwhelming to the point where the game is probably not worth playing anymore if they scale it back to pre-patch levels.

The current state of burn damage creates risks/opportunity costs for those who run builds without cleansing. I’m speaking from the solo q, 2-3 man pre perspective but this is even moreso with full pre.

Some specs have better access to it while others have better cleansing. If they do plan on adjusting, it should be done on a case by case scenario instead of nuking the condition entirely.

Sometimes when I’m on ele after an outnumbered team fight, I would smh and wonder how the heck Im still alive and kickin’ it.

I main an engineer because it seemed like the most interesting class to me back in ’12. Who needs weapon swapping when I have all these cool kits and gadgets, I thought.

It’s still my favorite despite some of the changes from patch like displacing incendiary powder, power nades, power FT yet strong condi toolbelt skill, limited sources for condi or burn damage, so on and so forth….just weird traits in need of a tune-up

Like I said that list was just my opinion of what works in the current meta at a competitive level, and right now for necro, you need to build tanky in order to do well for the most part. Yes some people have made power wells work, but you can’t deny that its a bit outdated right now. I have friends that have made power signet builds work much better than wells, simply because wells are quite easy to avoid when they’re not used as downcleave.

Burn Engi I do consider to be bottom tier, simply because its frail as hell and completely dependent on blowtorch and Incendiary ammo for 80% of its damage. It poses no serious threat to a coordinated team. HGH cele engi is very weak to focus fire and totally outclassed by mightstacking builds on ele and necro.

What I listed as Bottom tier, and between Mid and Bottom Tier, the differences between those two are pretty slight, I just view those in between mid and bottom tier as slightly more viable than bottom tier. While the build I described as bottom tier can work in solo queue or casual ranked play, I don’t think they provide serious value at an actually competitive level. They may be viable, just not optimal. Meanwhile other builds that aren’t even listed, I wouldn’t even call viable.

Literally just come out of this match. Rabid engi.

So what’s the meta order like these days? Like 1 being awesome 3 being poor. Top, middle and bottom tier… Who is where?

In my slightly biased opinion:

Top Tier: Fire D/D ele, cele signet necro, D/P thief, Support Guardian, PU zerk shatter mesmer

Mid Tier: Medi/Burn Guard, Power Rifle Engi (soldier or marauder), Trap Ranger, S/D thief, Mantra Mesmer, Stone Heart Bunker Cele Ele (staff or D/D), Soldier Necro (MM or US bunker), GS/Hammer Rampage Warrior,

Between Mid and Bottom Tier: Power Ranger, Condi Mesmer, Condi Necro, Tanky Warrior (shoutbow/hambow)

Bottom Tier: Condi Engi, Fresh Air Ele, Cele HGH engi, Condi Thief, Power Wells/Lich Necro

Thats my take on the current meta, everything else thats not commonly seen ever, I can’t really give a good “tier placement”. Feel free to disgree, but based on my experiences and observations multiclassing, this is what I have noticed.

It’s fun to play some of the specs you feel are bottom tier because they catch people off-guard on what to expect. I play 4/5 of them on alt characters.

For sure, I don’t disagree with what you said. I know the skill levels in tourney tiers are exponentially closer/tighter than the ones I’m accustomed to. Aside from that I bet they also know each other’s personal play style.

What goes on in the highest tiers provide the most accurate measurement of a spec’s potential, at least the ones that are used most often.

My comment was based on my experience in the average person’s tier because it’s what I can relate to. I know people like to reference what goes on the highest tiers as their own to make a point and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s just something I don’t do.

I also like to reference what goes on in my tier due to the diverse and effective builds that thrive there yet unrepresented in the highest tiers

ask rom about his duels with kervv too see if war has any chance against cele d/d then come back…if i say that war has no way to kill a good ele it’s because i know it, and it’s widely proven (And not at random unranked levels…i’m not talking about casual pvp here)

I can’t speak for rom and kervv because they belong to the tournament tier. The gameplay there is beyond my ability so I never compare my capabilities to theirs. Only queue unranked when trying out a build but I usually play solo, 2 or 3 man pre on ranked.

hate is a strong word. i don’t hate any specs but i get a lot of death threat PMs on my rabid p/p engie, cele rifle engie, marauder nades engie, signet pu Mesmer, earth d/d ele, fire d/d ele, rampage warrior.

bunker guard and necro not so much hate towards me. but the ones above, yes.

Necros were not noncombat classes. They shone to the point of needing to get focused in 1vxs, sure, but they were perfectly capable of holding points, decapping, and 1v1s, especially with Lich being a thing.

Hmm, I thought we focused necro to quickly outnumber opponents on the map not coz we were scurrrred of Lich.

Hi, thieves are not in the same league as mesmers and eles.

I will confess that I hated that June 23 patch overall (engie related). However, since I think positive, one of the things I liked about it was that fewer brain-dead thieves queued for matches.

Recently, thieves that ended up in my team were actually competent!!!

For those of you who missed it, Twitch streaming failed/disconnected immediately after the finals began. NA and EU viewers had to invade the Chinese equivalent of Twitch in order to view.

We did get a treat from Anet through an unforgettable musical performance by a Chinese hip hop boy band.

And it occurred during weird NA hours, like 4am PST
