Just remembered where the most memorable event was for me. Cleansing orr personal storyline. This was right before a took a extended break from Guild Wars 2.
Don’t complain, GW2 is far more alt friendly than other MMOs. And BTW: gw1 wasn’t alt friendly either (all the title coupled skills…).
Keep in mind that you still can easily play the game with exotics. And if the time comes you get your ascended weapon.
Also, if you play a lot of alts, then it is natural that you have to work longer if you want all the BiS gear. It is still an MMO. I always complained in GW1 how easy it was to get the max stats gear. It was so boring afterwards (still a great game though).
That is vary true. GW1 was not vary alt friendly. I would argue even more unfriendly Ascended armor is not required to play the game. Skills and staying in meta is.
I think the main reason why this game builds memories so well is that so much is focused on the play instead of preparing to play.
so i guess it is today’s patch?
Patch day is not this week this is coming on the 17th. This week is a release info week.
THe pax party stream on ArenaNet youtube or twitch stream.
I understand why timegates exist. The one for ascended is not that bad either.
I don’t like them in general due to they tend to encourage a checklist mindset. This takes the enjoyment out of just playing the game.
I stopped chasing achievement points last chest when I got it thinking I was a long way off but I was really not. It felt a lot more rewarding then grinding for it.
I started out this patch chasing ascended. Got upset that I did not get the mats on my non level 80s. So I decided I would get it when I do. I wanted to rush and get it because I did not want to be stuck with doing it alone. I don’t think people will stop doing the world events. Or the jumping puzzles. (Hopefully they will not stop doing orr). I wanted to level my alts more. So I started doing that and only working on ascended stuff if I am with my guildies doing Dungeons or other stuff.
The game feels a lot more rewarding when you just let the rewards come naturally instead of grinding for them. Now the only time I grind is when I am really close so might as well finish it off.

How rare are the free level scrolls from the black lion chests?
Low enough that it does not register on the drop rate research. So I would say it would be less then 5%(vary rare chance so rare it can be said it almost never happens).
I don’t even know how people find the time to level 4+ alts and actually enjoy the game at the same time. If Anet stay true to their words then it’s a good thing Ascended is much harder to get than Exotic, cause while it may be a challenge to those who wants 1 of each profession and gear to play every spec possible. It’s still a reasonable goal for a casual who can only manage to play 2-3 character tops. Otherwise we’ll just have completely geared out toons and complain about lack of end game goals.
Most people have 1-2 level 80s and the rest are under level 80. A lot of people do it to try out other professions play the story or level crafting. Some people also have more time then others. Also a lot of players don’t want top gear for each alt. Some like me would like to play my alt however and still get mats while leveling.
In WvW the game itself is a timegate. It already has one at 5 minute cooldown on any capture. In reality it is at least 30 minutes or so. They drop at a low rate.
Also the fact that you actually have to hit the lord.
In addition to that. Getting them from dungeons is the fastest way as long as you are doing a different path. I think ArenaNet made it so that you could make at least one mat(non timegated crafting) a day.
Oh and they also are gated. Just not so much in WvW.
TL;DR the way they are now is fine.

I have a question and would appreciate some clarification.
1. If I map dodging into one button, that’s technically one button = one ability. Is that allowed?
2a. If I want to notify Party every time I want to cast a certain buff (for example). Is one button = “say string of text” + one ability OK?
2b. If 2a above is not OK, is separating that into two buttons OK?
Thanks!
1.) yes you can map dodge to a separate key. Double tap to dodge is actually a setting.
2,3.) no. Not from what I understand.
I advice to get your tin foil hats in handy because Im about to drop a good one
Perhaps you havent played very often lately? Also, you are already mentioned that that was your 5th time doing a big boss, in about a year since release….. maybe, just maybe, it is because of that…
nah, Anet is a respectable company I doubt they would do something like that…..would they?
What increase chance of rewards the longer you have been gone? It is possible. Could DR be broken and that is what is hurting us all along.
My only complaint is that you do not get the materials while leveling. You need to wait tell level 80 to start getting the materials.
This makes me less and less want to level my alts. Not because it takes too long but because gathering those materials takes time out of my alt play. Now I have to decide what goal I want first. All my characters to 80 or ascended gear. I can’t work on them at the same time.
I really wish they dropped on lower level characters also. This is also helpful for new players as they would be somewhat on the way to getting their ascended.
I found the flaw in your way too long theory. YOU assume Zhaitan is dead but all other players that have not finished the Personal Story don’t quite see it that way (so your theory is based on a kittenumption).
The LS saga intentionally NEVER assumes that it occurs after the end of the existing Personal Story because not all players have yet completed it. This does lead to plenty of confusion and questions as to the direction the LS is actually headed.
As stated by a lead content designer, the living story (starting with Southsun and continuing with everything after it) picks up after the end of the personal story, at which point Zhaitan and Tequatl are dead. The personal story has been completed in the world whether or not you have personally done it.
Do you have the location of the quote for that by chance. It would be something nice to add to the wiki for timeline reasons.
Maybe we should wait until the patch is actually here before stating it has too little content?
I am quite sure we had more or less exactly the same thread back with the “Queen’s Speech” update and that was rather massive.
While I don’t expect them to do a complete 180 like they did with the queens speech I do expect more story due to
To stop this rampaging beast, you’ll join forces with old friends and new allies in a desperate battle where failure is a very real option.
I think you need to give the event a try before you judge it. This may be what they want for “Raid” type content. They will not make “raid” type content instanced at anytime in the near future.
Closest is Arah Dungeon armor and SAB Skins.
But mostly this.
But I firmly believe skill in MMOs does not exist. The closest thing to skill is reaction time and APM, which isn’t really skill.
If you want the comments and recognition from other players try to get a skin that looks cool. Not a proof of skill but you will get comments where did you get that.
You have three options:
1) stop farming champs
2) destroy excess
3) make it into bloodstone bricks, one 14s gold sink at a time
The easy solution would be to craft the 100 that are required into a brick. If you have farmed over ~2500 champs in this short period of time you really really need to go do something else.
I suppose I haven’t explained this clearly enough. We don’t have UI or tech to do this. The only thing we can do in the game currently is attach a short description to an object that is triggered by interaction (F to read, for example) or put that information inside a conversation tree. Those are our options. Neither solution is ideal for large chunks of text due to size limitations and usability restrictions. We’ve used both approaches on occasion to present details as you’ve described. But these current solutions are hard limited with how much we can display onscreen. They aren’t really appropriate for the amount of text information we’d put in proper books.
In other words, we can’t put these short stories into game UI because none currently exists that would support it. I know that sounds odd since we’re essentially talking about showing text in a window, but it’s a bit more complex than that. There is a lot of design, programming, and art that goes into building a system like this.
snipYour right there’s no large wall of text interaction in game that i can think of. Have you tried looking into the “my personal story tab”? i know there resides alot of text , illustration and even items that no one ever glances at. Maybe interacting with a book unlock a tab that contains the story of scarlet or etc. Im no game developer, im just brainstorming ideas on where i seen text and illustration before.
Taking this from old suggestion post:
I thought that looked rather good so I decided to do a search on the image. It comes from the following thread:
I think that is a vary good concept of the way they can add the stories from the website and a nice recap.
However I don’t see how that solves the other books problem. I don’t think it fits well for that. Nor do I think that it solves the replay problem. Something much better can be inovated on from that to solve that problem.
What about the people who have no inclination to do dungeons or jumping puzzles FOR WHATEVER REASON would like an ascended weapon but are left out in the cold, if they are really wanting one of those items they are BEING FORCED into content they do not wish to be a part of and GOES AGAINST ANETs claim that you can PLAY THE GAME THE WAY YOU WANT. Yes I am getting an Ascended weapon.
You don’t have to do jumping puzzles. You can do open world chests,Dungeons, or WvW
(edited by anzenketh.3759)
I remember hearing on the stream that if it fails there will be mobs in that area that stay until he is defeated. He himself will leave however.
I agree that more communication would be nice on patch notes.
But at the same time you can’t say that they do not communicate. We received the reason why they implemented a lot of the changes. The problem is the reason is in some interview or some blog elsewhere.
Also some changes would be controversial. But they don’t have to go with the popular opinion. This is a entertainment industry not a service industry. Going with popular opinion is the safe thing to do. Not always the best.
I see the OP frustration. I think it is nice that I am the only one in the world with my characters name. That does not happen in real life all the time. It is just rare.
They could if they wanted have names like Character Name.account name. To where you would not see the account name unless you are trying to type in a whisper or send mail. But then…… This really only becomes a problem if you are trying to create a Asura within the naming conventions as they are short one word names. At times it could be hard to include the title as there is a 15 character limit.
Personally if there is no story advancement I would not be too upset. Honestly we need a break every once in awhile. Give us time to level up our alts. Do some personal story. Do some WvW(Especially starting October).
Oh a better title may be Light on the story. Different people call content different things.
(edited by anzenketh.3759)
Let me guess, you also want people who level up in this zone and are not level 80 to not participate in the event, right?
That brings up a good question will they be doing upleveling for the Living story then removing it later? I don’t know. don’t think so though as they did not for clockwork chaos. I think this living story might be one that leaves a few players out. Maybe due to this they won’t have much of a story to it.
On topic. Um…… More DPS is not always better. I wonder what you would do without all those AOE heals that you get.
Well, I’m hoping there’s some story involved.
Why is he stronger? Especially post-Zhaitan’s ‘death’ (if this particular release is still following the timeline of the others).
I wasn’t expecting any for SAB and they snuck some into there, so I’m hoping there’ll be at least some story involved with him, rather than just “AAAH, he’s stronger!!”.
I would really like to know the story. Too bad I am not that good at Super Adventure Box. I might have to wait for http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_Story_Summary to be updated.
I guess I’m a bit disappointed that we won’t get any sort of story content for at least a month now. SAB is for a niche audience, and Tequatl isn’t new content – just a revamp.
Don’t get wrong, I’m glad that the bosses are getting a revamp because I do them occasionally, but I probably won’t have much interest in the game until new story comes out. (I could be wrong, maybe Tequatl revamp is a precursor to something larger).
I would not call that quite yet. They may in fact give a story for this. SAB does have a story too it. I am just unsure if it is related to the Arc that we have been seeing.
This is because you can transfer servers. Therefore the name server is shared among all servers. It makes sense. Perfect sense.
Then couldnt they do something about that? Like add some kind of symbol or indication as to what server the character actually comes from? I mean you have to admit, that as a result of this, it has become difficult coming up with names that only have just a name and not a first and last name approach, cause honestly, who here really REALLY wants to spend time typing in someone’s first and last name just to whisper them?
There are more efficient ways to whisper them Right click on them in guild panel or friends list or chat(except for WvW) for example.
In most cases they are not.
They did this because you can guest/transfer onto other servers.
is there enough blood and gore in the game???
The game is rated T for Blood, Mild Language, Use of Alcohol, Violence.
If blood and gore is what you are in to. In short you will not find it in this game. Mostly as there is little to no gore.
what is the quickest way to get my character to level eighty?
In short don’t rush it.
Too many people start playing. Rush to 80, then say there is nothing to do. Guild Wars 2 is a journey not a destination.
The most fun you may have in the game is the time that you stop and smell the roses.
Yes I access the chest at the end of them, and I am level 80.
What ones did you do? Not all of them drop per the wiki.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ascended_weapon
Is that what you are looking for?
I haven’t seen any empyreal fragments from jumping puzzles yet….. is my luck just that kittening bad?
Do you access the chest at the end of them?
Last night one of my guildies proposed running the chests in Queensdale to farm empyreal fragments (an idea which I have seen posted on these forums today). I was playing my new sylvari Guardian at the time – she’s in the low 20s – and I thought, well, heck, why not? Something the guildie said prompted me to ask, “Does it have to be a level 80 character?” The answer, of course, was ‘yes’. After some obligatory grumbling I switched to my level 80 warrior and we did the run. I got a bunch of the fragments and it was fun, especially watching them struggle through the jumping puzzle. Then we switched to other characters and did it again. I took my level 80 guardian on this run. It was still fun the second time. I don’t know how many fragments I got. I could have done it six more times – I’ve got six more level 80 characters – but I didn’t. Doing something like that over and over and over and over again would put me in a coma (figuratively speaking). I’m just not ‘geared’ (hey, pun!) that way.
That’s the extent of it.
I see absolutely no reason why you would have to be level 80 to do a Queensdale champ farm or get the ascended mats. If your character has to be a level 80 to drop any of the ascended gear that would put a whole in my theory that you will likely have a lot of the mats when starting a new character. If that is the case it is disappointing but I can see why it is that way.
Also what you were doing was your guildies turning it into a grind and a farm. It was not designed that way. That is why it is once a day per character. It is designed to go out and run multiple dungeons do multiple jumping puzzles visit multiple chests and go play WvW.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empyreal_Fragment
Guess I have some more research to do on this mechanic tonight. Unless someone else can confirm that Ascended mats do indeed drop on a non level 80 character.
I find it is helpful to ask myself that question each and every time a change is made. Why did they make this change.
This helps me keep a positive spin on things.
oooooh thats why people are farming cof isnt it
we need a thread saying “Limit Ascended Mats to 20 Per Day”
I seriously hope you are joking. I don’t even think ArenaNet would be happy with that number.
No they are farming COF for the same reason why they used too. Nice easy way to get 1 gold. Diminishing returns would likely not make it worth it to do multiple runs for ascended mats.
Most everything in the game can be completed in Rare equipment. If you want it make it be a long term goal.
Some will say that it is required for WvW but my experience states otherwise.
you mean once per day per account for dungeons and world events right? This is going to take me forever
Nope. Once per day per character. They just added ascended mats to the loot table. The time gate for the chests was already in place.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Upcoming-mega-boss-chest-change/first#post1656442
Dungeons are effected by diminishing returns after the first run.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empyreal_Fragment
If they nerf it to once per day per account. Then even I who is defending it and many others would get mad. As it does punish alts at that time. The way they have it implemented currently is fine.
(edited by anzenketh.3759)
You need to do dungeons, world events, jumping puzzles, WvW, open world exploring to find chests, mini-dungeons, and crafting to get top tier gear…
if you find none of those things engaging and fun content then why in the world are you playing the game?Im not sure if youre serious or being sarcastic
but you have to do all of those things right you cant just do one and get all the t7 mats. I havent done a world event in ages or Jps
The poster was giving the available options to get the mats needed. Shure you can only do one of those it will just take longer due to the once per day per character rule. (That was there before this update)
@Infernia.9847 you can be in top stat gear shortly after getting level 80 just by playing. Even now with ascended in the game.
This is due to crafting levels eventually going to 500. Give it time it will adjust itself so that you can craft to 80 again. When all professions are at 500.
I actually liked grinding for my legendaries, and I’m looking forward to getting more when they add more. If ascended items were only about the infusion slots, and otherwise had the same stats as exotics, I think they’d be a great addition to the game, because I like fotm, and I’d be okay with working to do higher levels (as long as agony never showed up anywhere else in the game)
The problem, like other people have said, is that the actual additions they’ve made are bad for the game. Even Colin Johanson agrees! He once listed these things as bad to have in a game: “loot drop systems that require doing a dungeon with a tiny chance the item you want can drop at the end, raid systems that need huge numbers of people online simultaneously to organize and play, thousands of wash/repeat item-collection or kill-mob quests or dailies with flavor text support, the best stat gear requiring crazy amounts of time to earn”
So Colin is actively striving to put into GW2 things he thinks are bad. That’s a strange approach, and it’s one we’re concerned about.
It is nice to know that you consider 2 weeks a crazy amount of time. Yes 2 weeks for a average player.
Nice to know that I am below average. I guess me and my 13 characters are just not dedicated enough for this game. Alas!
Have you been trying to get ascended gear?
I am 1/4 the way there myself. I have not been trying all that hard either. I took a few days off too. The reason why I say average is there are people who already have their ascended.
I find that I can typically make one Dragonite Ingot or Empyreal Star a day. All the other materials I already have plenty of or the things that I do to get Dragonite Ingot or Empyreal Star will also give me the mats for those.
For my playstyle it is harder for me to get empyreal fragment. As I really do not enjoy Jumping puzzles and Dungeon runs on some paths are harder for me to come by. But then the entire point of this is to get players to try other parts of the game.
(edited by anzenketh.3759)
NOTE: This topic is not designed to talk about once stance on ascended items there are plenty of topics for that.
Question is simply this. How much time would you consider acceptable to fully gear a single character?
Personally I think about 100-250 hours is acceptable. Or 2 weeks to 1 month of a decent amount of playtime.

Give it time. People will stop doing it eventually when the “I want it now” players get what they want. But don’t worry there will be enough new players and alts to keep it alive.
Watch this space.
Karma was mostly useless. It may not be that way anymore sometimes soon.
if i add someone to my guild and raise there rank can they access the bank remove the iteams then send them to me?
I was going to post something. about option 1 but you choose option two it sound like. Yes that would work. Pick someone you trust though.
