Don't make a new map! Solve the skill lags!

Are there different causes for lag server side? Can there be lag derived from map population (WvW or PvE) as well as lag from server population?

Strictly speaking the lag isn’t due to population per se, it is due to concentrated groups of players using skills on each other. The server calculates things every time a skill fires off and the more people it hits the more calculations it does. So if you get enough people fighting against one another, or even fighting with one another, you start to see server CPU problems.

This would explain why I am able to have higher culling setting in PvE but need lower culling settings in WvW.

I kind of figured that at a later date (like next April) we’d get SAB again with the 3rd world. Then the next time, it’d be another world or maybe a Super Adventure Box 2 world 1, and goes on like that. But I don’t think this is likely.

Isn’t SAB supposed to be recurring? Will they just keep successively adding worlds to it? Wouldn’t that get old quick?

The only recurring events that I am aware of is Halloween and Wintersday. Possibly Dragon Bash.

SAB and Bazaar of the Four winds reappear when ArenaNet feels a need for them.

Killing atherblades will not cause a event to fail. Last time I checked they are Scarlet’s minions too.

The problem is not with the champion loot that was needed too. The problem is the Dynamic event rewards are not good enough. They neither scale with time difficutly or level. not to mention karma and XP at the moment for most level 80’s are useless. Make those more useful and you fix the dynamic event problem.

I have the feeling this is in the works.

I wonder if the DR system is broken.

Recently I took a break for 2-3 days to where I did not log in at all. The day I came back I was getting good rewards left and right. Then after a few hours it stopped. I was no longer getting those rewards. Still was getting decent rewards but not the “Wow Look at this loot” rewards.

I figured it would best to do two posts. As they are two issues. Thank you for fixing a lot of the clipping issues with the daggers and Asura. Short bows were a bit improved also however still major bug in my opinion. Further hurting the issue in the puffiness of the coats.

Issue: Mystic Crescent(And a lot of other Short Bows) impaling head.

Description of Problem:
Not sure how you are going to fix this one. Can’t really lower it as then it will be drastically hidden by the coat like before. You might have to shrink the Mystic Crescent(and other short bows) on aura when stowed. You might have to decrees the puffiness of the ranger Trench coats. Or perhaps just have them stow the bow out just a tad bit more.

Please ensure that the Asura Neck Bug is tracked and eventually resolved if possible.

It is making a already small character look like a blob.

Some good quotes on descriptions of the issue:

Yeah, I’ve seen it too. It’s like if after a loading screen, the game doesn’t initially render your neck and instead puts your head directly on your shoulders. It fixes itself on my screen after three seconds tops.

It usually happens to me when environment still loads up after logging in/porting to another zone, stops usually after a minute or two, when a certain SFX is finally heard. Not sure which one though, as my desktop just plays all “lagged” sounds in one moment.

Funny, no other race has these or similar issues.

It seams as if the next renders along priority with everything else that is low priority on rendering. This may or may not be limited to the male models.

I like the idea of a Dynamic Event at launch however…. I knew it was doomed why? Simply becouse the story is disjoined and the rewards are not there.

I think ArenaNet doesn’t regret dynamic events, I think they regret thinking players play to play and not to complete certain goals, and in the process, not helping players make discovery and participation in the events another sort of goal.

I think a Dev said something along those lines somewhere.

Maybe they should have not put in hearts past the starter zones, or just a very few in the next level and then none from then on.This would have encouraged people more to look for events to level rather than going from heart to heart.

The hearts, I think, are actually detrimental to the game as they promote a check list mentality. Of course the vistas, wps, and POIs do also, but the hearts make many people think they are the heart of the game instead of the events.

They do seem to have given up on them. And I can’t really blame them as people don’t even do the ones that are already present.

There is also a lot of truth to that. See my idea regarding scouts to add doing dynamic events to the “CheckList”

Some ideas:
—- Pepole Farmed Dynamic events for Karma at the start. Now they have too much of it. Increase karma demand and I think you will increase the number of pepole completing Dynamic Events.
—- The scouts are a great idea for improving the story to the area. Why not make them required for map completion.
—- Enhance the functionality of the scouts to tell you what event is going on in his scout range and the parts of the story before the current event cycle.
—- Make events soloable. A lot of them in the higher areas I find are not or extreamly hard to solo.

The roll itself is random however loot is programed to have a higher chance at some things then others. Magic find helps improving those chances.

Karma change was rolled back(temporarily) and they are going to compensate people for the loss(that is in progress).

A lot of people liked the removal of culling. I was skeptical at first but now I love it. Makes the game feel like launch again. I find that if I use auto detect for my settings my system will be set to what it can handle.

Any plans to separate them? WvW and PVE are very different in my experience as to what settings are needed to play at a reasonable level.

I need to test some things first I suspect however….

That I also would like them separated. I am more likely to run into a 100 mag zerg in PvP then I am in PvE.

If I know I am going to a area that has a 100 man zerg I can lower the settings in PvE for preparation.

Are you sure that it is the texting program. Are you sure it was a program or someone using a program to outbid you. Remember the Trading post is global. it is possible with a few million players that you will be outbid fast.

My problem is not undercutting it is undercutting to the point that it does not make financial sense to do so.

The market is flooded with items. With no good item sink for non-exotic crafted items not allowing the market to recover a appropriate equilibrium.

True, but usually under a verified account name (ArenaNet logo on it).

Not always some have accounts and just do not want Official account. And I don’t think they would bother for that flair for a single post.

And again, that Ring of Fire Islands has been sitting there unexplored since launch. They mentioned permanent changes to the world but we don’t get any more info than that. New zone would fit.

This is exciting. I’m just going to continue wildly speculating outrages things.

I could see this happening not this patch but the first part of next year yes.

There should be a slider similar to WvW one rendered player number, so that lower end systems could lower it to not suffe from lagg and higher end users could see all the players around.

I hope this is the case. I wish there was some fast toggle switch for it though. Most of the time this is not needed just in large zergs. I plan on testing this out on some World bosses when it is released.

Looks like I am going to go from 20 frames in PvE to 5 thanks to this new feature.

Didnt play GW1 so not sure if the anniversary present is on par with those.
Mini will just go in bank never to be seen again, exp scroll i dont need as im lvl 80, booster maybe ok depending on what it boosts.

They are on par with GW1 We just got minis or tunics in GW1. This is actually better as we get a booster and a Scroll of Experience.

I have noticed in the pavilion I can qualify a lot easier then if I was in a server run Orr Event. That may simple be scale though Pavilion as most is 75 as the zerg in Orr may have a lot more then 75.

This all started back in November 2012 when ANet decided to abandon its vision and cater to a small group of whiners on the forums.

Fractals and Ascended gear brought this crowd of players here, now they’re here to stay.

This crowd was here to begin with. The difference is the novelty of the game wore off. They all got their level 80s. Then they all got their exotic gear. The crafters completed their crafting of all professions to 400.

Now. They all have other goals. All these things cost in game coin to get. They are also designed to be long term. Obtained while playing though the game. But they want them now. So they do what is most efficient. Farm. They were not getting the drops that got them what they wanted fast enough so they complained about bad drops.

Now ArenaNet is trying to cater to two types. Those that wanted the vision that ArenaNet had. Wants to see the beauty in the world wants to play the events and live the story. And those that want a game that will help them achieve goals.

You could get Living story achievements for daily.
You could get Living Story achievements for the hard core(Gauntlet)
You could get Living Story achievements the regular way.
You could get Living Story achievements out in the open world.

The ones tied to the daily were extremely helpful.

As usual though WvW and sPvP gets no love but….. They don’t like PvE in there PvP

I appreciate the response. I honestly didn’t think you would take the time to answer all of those.

I think the WvW community is just frustrated at the pace that it has been updated versus the rest of the game.

Funny thing is actual Updates like WvW is requesting is only a little bit faster for the rest of the game. A lot of this is also because a lot of the updates that were done effects effects WvW too. Wallet effects WvW. LFG system Effects WvW. Crafting champ drops. Effects WvW. I could go on.

The rest of the PvE stuff well…….. ArenaNet has amazing tools and policies that allows them to put out stuff this fast is all I can say.

We know little about it and for good reason. Due to you would be mostly doing the events once you notice DR kick in there it is time to leave and go do something else for a while. That being said I don’t know if DR kicks in for the Pavilion as it was designed as a farming area and most of the mobs are Vets and legendary.

ANET manages to completely ignore the performance limitations of their horrible engine yet again.
Not to mention the stupid camera in the fighting cages.

Ugh the camera in the cages. This is part of why I don’t do them. I find if you set the setting to best performance however things work fine for me. Just not as nice to look at. Just remember to switch back when you head out. It has to do with the number of players on the map. Welcome to how WvW feels in large fights.

The trick is to figure out when to dodge when he starts his telegraph. For me I keep doing it too early.

ANet has a wonky sense of dodge timing. If the shield trainer in Queensdale and stone throwing wurms are reliable examples, they want us to dodge at the end of the trigger animation rather than at the start. But every fiber in my body screams that to me that the natural reaction is to dodge the moment i see a incoming attack, not wait until the sword edge is shaving my eyebrows!

I know. I have the same problem. That is why I hate Long telegraphs. Because I can not get rid of that innate instinct to dodge and get out of dodge I tend to get one hit too many times.

But this is where the skill comes into play. Learning to stand your ground just a few minutes more.

Are you on about the first boss? You don’t need to dodge anything at all, you can just run behind him. The wind up is like 4 seconds, it’s impossible to miss. If you circle strafe like a pro you notice this instantly.

Either way I get more practice in.

There is a major flow in this new wallet and I’m extreme kitten ed right now.

Need a confirmation on the tp or any other merchant before buying.

Now that the gold is directly on each character, you can easily buy an item by mistake.

I was looking at the new hammers and I dont know wth happens instead of hitting back, I hit buy and now I’m 175g in the hole.

This has to change NOW

Would be a nice feature in the trading post. Who knows maybe that is on the list of things to be updated. It won’t change now however it takes too much time to develop UI stuff. That is just the nature of things.

So if you need to have a bankspace to protect yourself from – well – yourself, you have to use the “individual guild” route.

Sorry, can you let me know where to go? I was at the CP and i cant get the opening ceremony and visit CP achievement.

Go to the way-point their is a door behind you with a living story symbol on it. Enter the door and it starts a nice personal story. Be sure to stay around after you complete it to get the full effect with all the dialog.

I really enjoyed the Opening ceremony it gave some more character to Rox and Braham. I also enjoyed the humor of it.

It was short it was sweet. It got the point of what we were doing in this living story across and why.

A little more direction would have been nice on where to go however. I would also enjoy the ability to re-watch it. I know stuff like that is being worked on for the future however.

It was not removed due to that comment it was removed as “MF” gear is selfish. Not any gear besides magic find. I think we will like the new system when they implement it.
