Play a different game. Not because this one doesn’t offer anything, but if you’re a PvP-centric player, you’ll just hate the game more and more every day.
I mean, this game DOESN’T offer anything if you’re not into a JRPG grind for literally everything, but still. There’s limited replayability when literally everything you do feels like a job.
TLDR
Had win loss win loss win loss pattern literally non-stop since yesterday evening. It is a joke.
Technically…. you should balance out at a 50/50 w/l ratio when you reach the division that corresponds to your skill level.
…so if the system was working perfectly….
you would eventually average out to a 50/50 w/l eventually.
Not when the system is literally designed to stack one of the two teams every single game. That doesn’t create 50/50, it forces it randomly, or it forces one of the extremes randomly.
I just ping my vial of salt.
That’s because you’re extremely non-creative.
Because I don’t type a full dissertation doesn’t make me non creative. It means i’m too busy playing to type.
Any variation of “salt” or “umad” is just an immediate indicator of a person who isn’t intelligent enough to make a decent comment, so they go with a standard one that requires no effort.
That’s the issue. Why bother talking kitten if it requires no effort?

So at first I was at 50-50 for the first 15 games or so.
Next 10-15 I was 60-70+% win rate or so. (got 3 tiers pretty quick in saph)
Next day/night 2, suddenly 100% loss rate…ok… nothing has changed. Why am I at a 5 loss streak?
I used to think these forum peeps where full of it…but now I dunno. I suddenly/randomly just got the worst team mates… I literally had a 4 necro game where no one refused to switch…
I was literally 1v2ing (and getting a kill) a whole game and still lost to a blow out.
Terrible terrible match making today. I don’t get it. Was fine before.
I haven’t had a competent teammate in my last 20 games. Literally not one. The five games I’ve won out of those were pretty much single-handedly carried by me.
I started the season with an 8 game win streak. Got to t4 Emerald almost instantly. I was 18-4 at one point. Now I’m 20-16. The matchmaking is absolutely horrible. I haven’t had close games, competitive games, or fun games.
Anet doesn’t seem to understand that the game isn’t fun when you’re forced to carry players that literally can’t understand basic concepts every. single. game.
I just ping my vial of salt.
That’s because you’re extremely non-creative.
This is by design. We allow duo queues to pair up against full pre-made teams, but not a full group of solo queues. We changed this during Season 2.
As for the spread, it’s because those players are grouped up. For example, the Amber on Red Team is brought up to Sapphire level because they’re pairing with a Sapphire player. The Blue Team has Ruby players on it because they’re most likely in early Ruby which puts them within the range of upper tier Sapphire players for the purposes of matchmaking. The Emerald player is subsequently brought up because they’re grouped with higher division players.
I know that match-ups like this may seem off-kilter at first glance, but it’s entirely within the parameters we’ve set in the matchmaking algorithm and definitely by design. It looks like it was a close match though, so I’m glad you had fun!
You need to remove pip loss against if you’re going to allow and basically encourage solo players to go up against full groups. Unless you’re stacking the pug group HEAVILY, it’s not balanced whatsoever, regardless of your terrible MMR system.
I had a win streak at the very beginning with close games that weren’t at all competitive save for a couple, and now I’m in a big loss streak where the closest game has been like 500-200.
ANet decided this was what they wanted, though. S2 MM all over again.
season 3 we get both
i.e.red – blue
8 – 8
8 – 9
9 – 8
8 – 9
9 – 8something like that maybe.
otherwise, one team gonna have slightly higher overall MMR.Season 1 would have been closer:
6 – 7
6 – 5
5 – 5
5 – 4
4 – 4Your season 2 example is accurate, though could be closer in some circumstances.
Season 3 will be like a sorted version of season 1:

Why are the teams BY DESIGN being stacked in a game where a win = +1 and a loss = -1?
HIDDEN MMR MEANS LITERALLY NOTHING IN A GAME WHERE THE ENTIRE PURPOSE IS PIPS.
You’re DELIBERATELY stacking teams and borderline forcing losses onto players in literally every game. What sort of intelligent design is that? You’re actively discouraging accurate matchmaking by team-stacking.
Literally zero part of your system encourages good gameplay. ZERO of my last 15 games have been reasonably competitive. I finally had one that wasn’t 500-250, and we had no chance the entire game despite losing 500-450.
Your system isn’t fun when a player is forced to carry OBVIOUSLY incompetent teammates in more than even ONE SINGLE GAME.
It’s like you’ve never played competitive games before, at all.
ANet doesn’t care about the teams being balanced in spvp. Literally not an ounce. They pay lip-service to it, but it’s entirely lies. There is literally no form of balance between teams. They just put 10 players onto a server and say have fun.
No other excuse for the kittening absolute joke that this game is.
Zero of my last 11 games have been closer than 500-300 in t5 Emerald. They’ve all been stomps.
This is EXACTLY like season 2.
Biggest issue for me is that I just don’t want to give ANet (or NCSoft in general) any of my money right now. There are a lot of things I want, and would love to buy, but I don’t feel like I should support the company after everything they’ve done.
They make playing a game into a massive timesink that feels like work. PvP, which is my primary focus in game, is just frustratingly un-fun. PvE has no meaningful rewards, and most of the rewards you need for ascended gear (or even exotic in some cases), you’re better off merely farming a different material altogether, selling that, and then buying what you need.
You can only run the same content over and over again for pennies before you just burn out. Farming thousands of ore or wood for ascended gear, knowing that I’ll have to farm even more than what I need to pay for some of the other materials is just depressing.
“Play the way you want.” That’s great, I do think it’s great that I can eventually gain the materials I need for whatever by doing whatever I want. However, I really wish it didn’t take MONTHS of effort to do so in some cases.
I didn’t feel accomplished when I made my first piece of ascended gear, I felt demoralized knowing that making the rest was going to take so much more time and effort for a very miniscule upgrade in stats. I’ve basically completely written off the idea that I’ll ever get a legendary, and that’s fine, but disappointing.
The main thing that prevents me from wanting to give ANet money is simple – if I’m paying a company to play a game, I want to enjoy it. I don’t want to pay a company and then feel like I’m going to work each time I log in.
GW2 PvP is just player vs passive. It’s w/e. When overwatch comes, this game is gonna lose like 1/4 of it’s pvper playerbase.
Anet has no real interest in fair matches beyond making sure your MMR is roughly similar (lol).
Arkarian and RaGe were probably in the two consecutive games I had earlier where we had a d/c for the first few minutes and came back to win.
Even with the wins, it’s kittening rage-inducing.
Only thing I don’t get is how are you supposed to rank up if you’re basically forced into losing half of your matches?
Win streaks literally do not exist anymore, by design.
season 3 we get both

So basically you’re forcing 50% winrates by teamstacking, and that’s supposed to get you to your perceived MMR/rank faster?
Yea, me going w/l/w/l/w/l because my team is kitten in half of my games and their team is kitten in the other half will surely rank me up constantly. Good job!
I’ll typically swap between them depending on what the other team comp looks like. If it’s condi-heavy, I’ll go with Carrion. If it’s power-heavy, I’ll go Rabid.
Oh come on guys. Berserkers are not top tier. Come on man. Even if u go condi berserker. they still need to get kited around, They can get condi bursted. blinded. Like seriously thier adrenal health is litterally dependent on thier ability to hit you. this one of the few healing traits where the player actually has to work for it. And now we are already at wheter berserker needs to get nerfed?
Jesus kittening christ!!!
You know that the main counter to warrior (condi mesmer) just got nerfed with removal of Mercenary amulet. Tho I guess that warrior got nerfed too with the removal.
Also, hitting the burst skill is extremely easy, if you play smartly and not just spam buttons. Even with blinds, warrior has lots of ways of dealing with condis (you can remove about 3 condis every 10 seconds + berserker stance + signet), so condi bursting them is anything but easy.On the side note, most WvW warrior mains on my servers agreed with me that warrior does have too much healing, but they also said that they were unviable for the last 4 months, Anet can at least give them some time dominating and having fun, before they nerf them again.
See, that’s the thing – even with Adrenal Health being “OP” (LOL), warriors are still not “dominating” anything. Our meta builds are easy to counter and the Adrenal Health is the only thing letting warriors stay in the fight long enough to have a meaningful impact.
We get 400 health per second more than we did for the last six months of seasonal play. That’s literally the ONLY change to warrior survivability (Last Stand proc was changed from 25% to 50%, what a buff!) and we went from being kitten-tier-detriment-to-your-team to OP?
You’ve got to be kidding me.
I get it, warriors are no longer free kills, and now you’re all kitten since a lot of us came back now that we’re not complete garbage. I find it exceptionally funny, though, that a necro is asking for warriors to be nerfed because his non-viable spec can’t kill them (when his actual viable spec can.)
Hey guys, can we nerf literally every class in the game so that my rifle/sword+warhorn build can faceroll to Legend?
I’ve lost faith in them making GS skills actually reliable. GS 4 and 5 are so easy to dodge (without even evading) that it’s basically just bonus damage when either of them actually land. The fact that GS 4 is the only form of cripple/snare on the weapon is just laughable.
Well, so long warriors, again.
Abysmal. Even the pro-league teams don’t take the game seriously anymore. SPvP isn’t balanced, the dev team doesn’t put forth active effort to balance classes or specs. Most of their fixes are passive boons since they don’t want to put the effort into redesigning weapons or are concerned about community push-back.
Too much in this game is passive, and passive defenses in combination with the way condi’s work in this game basically force everyone to go condi if they don’t have obscene offensive burst potential (revenant is currently the only viable power option in the game for a reason.)
Anet has done very little to discourage the condi-meta, and really only reinforce it with the addition of even more passive defensive procs.
Bunker classes, because of the passive procs, can be absurdly frustrating to play against. I’ve seen Guardian’s have block up for 10 seconds straight, only to go directly into some other form of immunity into another string of block for another 10 seconds. That’s a problem. A lot of classes can do similar things, too.
If you want evidence that the e-sports scene is kitten, look no further than Vermillion telling the casters live on stream last night that none of them are taking the game seriously anymore and don’t even play it. If you want evidence that the semi-pro competitive scene is kitten, look no further than how prevalent Necromancers were late last season with 3+ per team each game. A balanced game doesn’t look like that.
Nope.
15 characters
I just got kittened at by my team because I was defending home.
They need to absolutely remove PvP dailies, or force people into hotjoin or something. It’s just depressing how completely inept the vast majority of unranked players are. They’re in it for the deathmatch and winning is just a bonus.
Thanks for ruining it for the rest of the community, y’know all the other players that play PvE or WvW. Congratulations on your great “victory”
who the kitten even uses surge of the mists in wvw, or uses it in pve for anything other than smashing a boss break bar?
Alot of players actually
For PvE it was also a nice addition to the already bad DPS Revenants have
For WvW since Hammer is a must, and the only ranged option, staff was actually a great alternative to Sword/offAxe and offSword (Sword/Shield is complete suicide with that root)So 100% of your weapon options aren’t viable in WvW/PvE anymore? That’s a shame. As a warrior, I’ll continue with my nearly 4 straight years of playing Greatsword in PvE and hammer in WvW.
Wow, nice mentality there.
Every class gets pigeonholed into a specific meta build. Every one. You had a non-meta build receiver dps nerfs when the dps of that weapon is terrible in pve anyway. Rifle got absolutely destroyed for warriors in every aspect of play, but we aren’t crying that our fringe-novelty builds got ruined and we’re now garbage.
Revenant is still a top-2 class in sPvP, viable as any class in wvw, and an excellent support in pve. You’re in a perfectly fine spot in every aspect of the game. Stop being greedy at the expense of everyone else.
I’ve had closer/semi-better games in unranked than ranked last season, but not necessarily for good reasons.
Close games don’t mean they’re better games. I see a lot of REALLY dumb mistakes being made constantly that drag out games that should be quick. I see a ton of people actively leaving bases to go fight in the middle of a field, I see thieves constantly kittening up literally every aspect of how they should be playing (if I ever see a team with 2+ thieves on it, I know for a fact that team will lose 95% of their games). I just see a lot of people that don’t grasp general concepts, which I guess isn’t that far removed from ranked.
Honestly, most close games are because the good players are just kittening around testing builds while the bad players continue to sabotage their team and make games closer than they should be.
Thanks for ruining it for the rest of the community, y’know all the other players that play PvE or WvW. Congratulations on your great “victory”

Anet will literally NEVER balance elite specs until the next expansion or until this one has been out long enough that the cash-cow has run its course.
They’re more powerful than the other specs for a reason. If they weren’t, people would be less inclined to purchase HoT.
Anet has literally ZERO interest in balance if it comes at the expense of profits. ZERO.
I play about one sPvP game a day atm, and even though I’m on a six game winning streak and honestly having good, close matches with skilled opponents (for the most part), I just don’t feel compelled to play more than one game a day. Unranked has no goals that I can strive for, and once I feel I know the spec I’m going to play decently enough, there’s no reason for me to keep playing over doing other content (that I also typically don’t enjoy, but whatever.)
Issues with Helseth aside, nobody should celebrate a popular streamer (for what this game averages, at least) quitting streaming. New players are brought in from streams, and especially when they see high-level gameplay, as it gives them a good example of what they could do in game.
Sure, Helseth’s personality is a little rough around the edges for some people, but celebrating (or just not caring) about him no longer streaming is actively celebrating a reduction in new players coming to GW2. For a lot of viewers, Helseth’s stream was entertaining to watch, and if people enjoyed watching, they figured they’d enjoy playing.
Very few content creators, whether YouTubers, twitch streamers, or otherwise, should be celebrated when they quit creating that content. Anet doesn’t advertise anymore, and if nobody is creating content, then potential new players will never even know the game exists.
Good fighting. I’d love to run a Burnzerker build in WvW but I don’t know what gearset is actually ideal for it. A mix of Carrion, Rabid and Dire seems like a good idea, but you just lose so much power. I wish Mercenary gear was craftable.
I have an 80 Charr warrior and an 80 Human female warrior. I rerolled to human female because while the Charr animations are great, Charr armor is awful.
Condi burnbow will likely be the meta, though the power alternative (with Flame Legion runes instead of Balthazar) is still valid.
It allows for great sustain, good AoE damage, and can really punish people trying to revive a low teammate with a LB F1 + 3 combo. Burst potential is INCREDIBLE with condi variant; I’ve dropped every class in the game from 100-0 in under 5 seconds if I can bait out their defensive tools before bursting.
well WELCOME Back to queue LoL
btw how long do you have to wait now ?
what is the queue now ?
My queues on Crystal Desert are
EB: 41
Red: Open
Blue: Open
Green: 4
OS: Open
Things are already dying down. Maps will be extremely low queue or open tomorrow.
Odds that in 3 months the OP went from level 54-80 on his mesmer, got full ascended in a correct stat combo, and then still struggles with low level monsters (which are probably attacking his clones anyway)?
Anyone?
I’m a casual player and I only have time to play gw2 for about one hour per day. The queue time essentially prevents me from playing WvW, which is the only part of the game that I really enjoy.
Queues weren’t even this bad on launch weekend for me. I’m a casual player on a fairly casual server and I liked it that way.
It will cool down in a few days. This is sort of a HUGE even for the WvW community. I used to play on SoR when it was T1 and it didn’t have this sort of population back then.
Plus, reset is always especially packed.
Then again, if you WvW’d as seriously as you say you do, you’d know all of this.
I got a Balthazar’s Dagger Skin in a Black Lion Chest the other day. Was worth a whole 40g.
Until like 9 people undercut me and now it’s worth 35g.
people complaing about warrior sustain have no clue as to what they are doing, Warrior is in a good spot right now, If anything its OP.
Warrior OP because it has better semi-passive regen?
Wow.
Been running Longbow + Sword/Torch, which will more than likely be our meta build.
Can probably swap Rune of Balthazar for Rune of the Krait for preference or if you’re fighting heal-heavy teams.
Other build is a more classic Greatsword + Axe/Shield that wont be as effective, but might still be fun.
I’d run Rune of the Pack and Destroyer amulet (I think it’s that one) over Scholar and Berserker, but you get the idea. Not a super strong build, but fun to play. You can also switch the Axe for a Mace and bring some control to your team, as well.
(edited by bLind.6278)
My biggest issue is that they said they weren’t going to further balance prior to season 3, which I think is really naive. One-off balance patches are virtually proven not to lead to good balance, and this will be no different.
They did a lot to add more parity to the overall state of balance, but it’s still very far from perfect, or even ideal. Certain classes got overnerfed, some very strong classes didn’t even get adjusted. Certain builds or weapons were literally completely destroyed. Rifle for warriors is literally not worth equipping for any reason, anymore, for example.
Dragonhunters being nerfed was necessary but done in completely the wrong way. DH’s weren’t overpowered, but their traps were way too easy to use and be effective with with little counters. Instead of nerfing traps, however, they nerfed other stuff. Doesn’t impact low-skill play whatsoever, but made DH virtually worthless in high-end PvP.
I honestly don’t feel that Anet spends any time actively PvPing in this game, and if they do then it’s all at one level of gameplay and not spread throughout the various ranks. Balancing for high-end gameplay should be the goal, while tweaking low-end gameplay to at least still be enjoyable.
So far, they’ve managed to fail to balance the game at every level of gameplay and have effectively removed classes from competition for three seasons straight. My main class (warrior) got a nice buff, but still wont be meta. That’s fine. I just wanted to be viable. But I don’t want another class to suddenly replace warriors in being detrimental to having on your team. That’s when the patch becomes a failure.
I am of the impression that these forums will never be happy. That’s alright. I like reading salt.
On the topic, I’ve not played it much yet, but there are some changes I really like. Balance has never been a big concern for me. I think people’s expectations for balance are too high. I voted yes.
What you’re saying is that balance in a “competitive” game with a competitive league doesn’t matter to you?
I see you’re the person that rerolls to the fotm class every patch. Good for you.
I mean, look at this vid of him
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2pq1JXC2i_M
Look at 50 sec, he uses his elite skill so hé can run away instead of killing the enemy with it… whut? I think thats bizar for someone that plays from the beginning of the game.
His behavior is like a 10 year old + hé claims hes the force of all forces If you look at the vid discription.
Not worthy at all to follow a guy like that in my opinion.
Sup dude, can you screenshot your Legendary rank for me rq?
Game isn’t balanced enough to be forced into losing divisions. PvP is already a ghost town and predominantly populated by people after the back or achievements. Force players to play with people that have literally no idea how to play the game, much less PvP, and allow them to downrank divisions? People will quit in droves.
PvP in this game is already a massive joke and subject to luck more than anything else.
I play a warrior, so gunflame is pretty much my only choice if I want to be even non-competitive.
All of our builds are kitten in sPvP, so I run what occasionally gets me kills.
I know this was a thing in WOW PVP. There have been times in a match where I get hit with major lag at just the wrong moment. I did a little research and apparently these programs are out there. What does Anet do to protect the game’s integrity against hacks like this?
Happens to me constantly. 4-5 second delay in fights is pretty much normal, now.
Don’t play Warrior. It’s a garbage class that maybe 1% of the entire population finds success with. 100% of the fights you’re in will be frustrating. Your elite spec is trash compared to every other classes regular specs. Literally everything you bring to the table is done better by literally every other class, and anything you actually do have is pure gimmick.
Not only would I suggest not to play Warrior, I’d honestly suggest not to even play the game. ANet doesn’t deserve your business with their model of “kitten balance.”
Warriors are in a kittenty place, have been for 7 months now, Anet has done LITERALLY NOTHING to change this, and will continue to do literally nothing to change it. They don’t care.
Usually we get some preview about what is coming but this patch is showing absolutely nothing so far.
If i missed something please fill me in.
Thanks
Don’t expect any meaningful changes, and expect balance to somehow worsen because of it.
Count on ANet to do the wrong thing, whatever that is.
This is a really great analysis. I appreciate all the work you put into this. We recognize the problems that the season 2 matchmaking is causing and are looking into solutions that will provide a good experience and satisfy our goals for the league system.
I’m sure you guys will do something. You’re so good at making balance patches and changes, after all.
ANet has made it more than evident that they have no idea how to balance a game, especially given its current state.
Instead of putting any sort of blind faith into the development team and hope that they can pull off some sort of miracle and actually balance the game at least to a borderline even level, put your effort into reminding potential players that this game isn’t worth playing.
On the topic, I’ve not played it much yet, but there are some changes I really like. Balance has never been a big concern for me. I think people’s expectations for balance are too high. I voted yes.
