Yes warrior is easy, DH is easy and are classes with a low skill floor that gives u advantages iniatilly but that is where it stops when experience and effort come in. but that is really is. trust me. those people u beat are more often average players or maby even better. it makes no sense for average players to do the 1 v X just because builds. Cake walk doesn’t consist solely of warriors, it has power mesmers, thiefs. Heck zen even has vidieos of zodin still winning fights with core mediguardians. heralds. these pros use all classes. And can prove it in pvp where there is litterally no class/build advantage. heck sindrerer who also plays with cake is currently top eu player.

Even if u played warrior at first. experience and talent also play a factor. the average player u come across is not gonna do what u did and certainly not cake, zen .

They can prove it in pvp. U can litterally look at the pvp leaderboard and see vaanss in top 10 and sindrener on number 1(might be number 2 if metrix wins games)

I just don’t find that one should devalue a clear difference in skill as solely builds or everybody and thier mother would have a roughly very even odds of winning thier duels not counting hard counters.

As for u Ragnarox. U litterally are a hater that added nothing constructive here at all, other then using the most cliche excuse ever done in a competetive game and that is blame the build/class/weapon. to completely and utter ignore all talent, effort and skill, with the same excuse of a build. Even when there is litterally a game-mode where builds+stats are equalized, U still persist in not crediting their well earned skill level. And u tell me to grow up? U are the one who uses the most cliche excuse in gaming history.

If they cant do 1vx with berserker than they are pretty under average. Every newbie can now 1vx with berserker. Where were Cake when berserker first came in HoT? Pretty much crying in forums how useless this elite was. Everyone can be no1 now when pvp is dead. I am not hater i just know when ppl are abusing OP classes, hell I abused turret engie when it was out ( and defended by all those engineers that its not that OP). Well earned skill level? You cant earn skill level.
Berserker can 1vx easily in every game mode, low skill floor, condi or power, defending this class just prooves your skill level.

My sides when dude is acting like Vaanss and company weren’t easily doing 1vX with warrior back in s1 when warrior was kitten, or back before durability runs were meta.

Vaanss has like 17 roaming videos since HoT was released, a few as rifle, and some 14 as Axe/Shield + GS, long before dura was the build. As a matter of fact, I think only his last two videos even have him running durability, he was running Pack runes for a long time.

Get over yourself, guy. People are better than you, and it’s not just the class they play, or the current meta build carrying them. Vaanss was pulling 1vX before adrenal health and dura runes, back when warrior was dead. kittening. last. in every metric in pvp.

Maps are already far too cluttered with players. Each map is too small for even a 5v5 with the level of mobility that exists in the game. 10v10 would be absolute garbage.

The only thing about fractal loot that I find to be lacking is how you purchase ascended gear. I think the costs are pretty ludicrous for anyone that hasn’t been doing fractals for eons already, or is willing to put some serious farming time in.

Condi War or Zerker Necro?

From the sound of it, the pecking order seems to be condi warrior > condi necro > power necro in regards to organized groups. However, I pretty much only put fractals, so I don’t typically have a support that can babysit my warrior (even now in t3 fractals I’ll occasionally struggle to survive as a power warrior, though I’m sure part of that is just due to how much melee hate exists in fractals now). Obviously power necro would suffer similarly since it is also melee oriented, although it has marginally better survivability thanks to reaper.

Condi is understandably far easier to survive with as it’s easy to avoid boss melee cleave and the more predictable ranged attacks.

I figured I’d end up going condi one way or another, I just know how much easier it is to gear for berserker since I don’t have to raid or grind bloodstone fen for days and days.

Does anyone have any input on condi warrior versus condi necro? Nike suggested warrior as every group needs a warrior, but not necessarily a necro, so purely from team benefit, warrior is better. Beyond that, does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to get full viper trinkets or a suitable alternative while I slowly farm them from Bloodstone Fen?

I should note that I don’t have access to most of LS2 and have already gotten the sinister pieces (neck and one accessory) from the episodes I do have, and I know I can get a viper amulet from the HoT story but it requires a 5man group and I don’t have friends. Is rabid, carrion or rampagers okay to sub in while I farm?

I’m still pretty new to higher level fractals as I’m only personal level 72, but I feel pretty squishy and usually run signet to help keep me alive as getting the most out of the meta heal can be difficult in some fights. I also occasionally switch one of my trees to defense for adrenal health if I know there’s a lot of passive damage in a fight.

Hey everyone, I’m currently in the process of trying to decide what I want my next ascended set to be. I typically main a warrior, and have a full set of Berserker Ascended right now for fractals, but I’m strongly considering gearing up my necro and will likely roll Berserker for him as well after the recent nerf that crippled condi necro.

However, it’s just occurred to me that I could also build an ascended condi set for my warrior instead to make higher level fractals a little easier. The downside to this (and another deterrent to condi necro) is that I don’t have any real access to Viper/Sinister trinkets without farming an exorbitant amount of bloodstones, so that’s a minor setback for a condi build.

As for the usage, it will be primarily fractals as I don’t raid and really have no intention of doing so, and maybe a little bit of WvW.

Any suggestions?

As someone who is forced to play hammer/sword+wh with full soldiers in everyone’s, it’s absolutely trash and doesn’t contribute meaningfully whatsoever to fights. The damage is absolute garbage, mobility is trash, and even with full soldiers it’s very easy to get condi bursted down.

Full Mara’s with GS/Mace+shield is infinitely more impactful in fights and having GS3 as an extra evade is massive for survival.

Any commander that encourages hammer/sword+wh is stuck in a meta that’s been long dead and can’t keep up.

That’s not how ELO works. You cant tell me that 100% of my losses are to weaker teams, and 100% of my wins are to stronger ones. There is no reason that I should be losing 15-20 points per loss and only winning 10-15 per win.

Anet, this system is already significantly better than any of the others you’ve kitten, but this is a ridiculously short-sighted approach to forcing ELO stagnation.

Once again, you’ve added your own little spin to matchmaking that goes against the very idea of ELO/MMR as a skill-identifier.

I understand that you want the people at the top to not just balloon to extremely high ratings, but if people are consistently winning against evenly matched teams, they should. Eventually, they’ll be far enough away from the competition that their gains will slow significantly and you’ll see exactly what we see now in the top 25, just with a few higher outliers. However, that wont be an intentional slap in the face to literally EVERY SINGLE PLAYER below them by arbitrarily forcing them to lose additional points that they have to make up just because you feel like it.

Once again, you’ve designed a system that goes against the spirit of competition. It’s closer this time, but still imperfect. Beyond that, players shouldn’t be further punished because they got straight outcomped by 3+ DH’s that you don’t feel like doing anything about.

PvP is dying in this game for a reason, and it’s because you guys are repeatedly making the same mistakes that go against the spirit of competition. Again, this season is BY FAR the best you’ve had since HoT, and please don’t think I’m displeased with it, but it’s also far from perfect and you did that on purpose.

I’m pretty sure my soft-MMR was well below 1200, I went 6-3 (4 with one dc that probably still hurt me because Anet reasons) in my placements and was put at like 1182, and have quickly shot up to high silver and am hovering around 1320 because I’m too lazy to grind out gold.

I’m actually enjoying this season, despite only having played some 30 games. Knowing that games aren’t essentially pre-determined is excellent. It’s funny, because I look at the people I friended in season 3/4 that I was frequently losing to that are all 1350-1500 rating, and the people that were always on my team that are 700-1050 and wonder why I absolutely hated PvP for so long.

Anet FINALLY did something moderately right, and I’m just trying to enjoy it before I burn out.

That is great news, it means players only pvping for rewards will be slowly disappearing from now on. You’ll end up back with mostly pvp players as the season progresses. I think it is the right call to have the main seasonal reward be obtainable so early in the season.

I’m absolutely grateful for it, too. Get the PvE players out of PvP faster so they can’t impact games. It’s obvious that 90% of them have no desire to actually PvP or they wouldn’t leave immediately after getting their 1200 shards, so there’s no reason to encourage them to play a game mode that they don’t actually have any interest in.

I’m not sure you have any idea how the MMR system works whatsoever, and evidently you also don’t know how PvP works in general.

I’d suggest you learn to play your class better, as well as learning general mechanics of the game, because simply decapping at 850 rating will win games for you.

Berserker or Viper post-nerf?

Make ascended zerker and buy exotic viper. The difference in zerker is bigger direct dmg stats scale better while the difference on the condi side is much smaller between exo and asc.

I made vipers first tho since i already had exotic zerker.

I have full exotic berserkers armor/weapons with full ascended zerk+valk trinkets now, as well as a full dire exotic set that I use in WvW, but that wont give me a very accurate depiction of how Vipers would play. I also played around with a full Rampagers set some time ago and wasn’t crazy about the damage, but didn’t give it enough time to really work out the rotations and everything. It felt slow in most PvE content, whereas zerk absolutely plows through map completion/random PvE stuff. I will say that I miss the range that condi gives, though.

Honestly, I’m kinda leaning towards berserker just because it’s more enjoyable in PvE content. That being the case, is full berserker the way to go, or do I mix in Valk here and there? If possible I kinda want to use zerk weapons at minimum because I have a warrior and revenant that I can toss them to if I want.

Considering my first set of ascended for my necro. I don’t raid, I mostly do world PvE but want to start doing fractals on my necro, did a few low ones today in exotic berserker gear and enjoyed it well enough. I don’t have the means to put a full meta Viper set together since I’m missing a few episodes of LS2, too.

Any suggestions? Is Viper worth it still after they basically destroyed Rise? I know I can always Mystic Forge change later as well, so that’s always an option down the road if it gets buffed again, but in the mean time should I just go berserker or some zerk/valk hybrid?

GS + Mace/Shield with zerk amulet and pack runes with Signet of Might. Stay mobile, focus on +1ing fights. Don’t waste time in outnumbered fights or stalemates.

You’ll still have a rough time in some games, and thieves (fotm) do your job significantly better than you can, but it’s your best chance to actually carry.

Rev is still one of the better selections for solo impact potential, but definitely needs more babysitting than it used to. While it’s slightly more dependent on having a decent support to keep it alive than it used to be, it’s still a better choice than a few other classes due to raw carry potential from a solid Rev.

DH and War both needs some serious nerfs somewhere. As it stands currently both heavies put out too much damage, are basically immune to condi (remember when War was “Weak to condi”?…lol great design ANet), have absurd uptime on invuln to regular damage AND have multiple gap closers.

ANet has really screwed the pooch with these two classes, everyone else feels pretty good right now. I wish some of the other classes had multiple builds (Engi) but everyone else can at least compete.

Here is a crazy thought, design a weakness into DH or Warriors… I know, thats crazy talk but I think it will make the game better for everyone.

Warrior is arguably one of the worst two classes in the game for PvP right now because everyone else soft-counters them or hard-counters them, save for Necro, and that’s only because warrior can out-burst them. If necro gets a lucky boon rip of resistance, they win.

It’s a great profession when left alone to just condi bomb groups of players, but goes down quicky to focus fire after you bait their cooldowns.

Rank makes no difference in how good a player is. I watched a guardian last night with 454 PvP rank that was keyturning, running 1v5 into points and literally just clicking any ability of his at random (and didn’t even have his 1 on auto attack) and still managed to win and was 1300+.

Anet managed to devise a matchmaking system that literally doesn’t take individual player ability into account whatsoever and still allows players to get into “high” ranks purely on random luck.

If you’re new to GW2 and don’t immediately get into high Plat, you’ll statistically never get there regardless of how good you are, because Anet doesn’t have ANY performance-based metric in place to prevent people who are basically afk in matches from increasing in MMR purely because they got carried.

People aren’t getting carried by purposefully stacked teams any more and have to actually earn it, and a lot of people really don’t like that.

How is ending up with stupidity incarnate related to ‘actually earn’ something? – Feels more like an endless torture introduced every year, with the same empty promises of betterness. I don’t think most PvPers mind working to earn something but this is way beyond ridiculous.

News flash! I’m going to make my prediction right now as I did in the start of Season 3.

With in this season or the next season. Because the lack of competitive, quality PvP matches. The true PvP population not the players just looking to grind hand me down wins or the one that are just here to spam matches for PvP rewards. Will have evacuated GW2’s Rank League so hard. That it forces ANet to make another thread about how they have to take out duo queue, and increase the range that the MM choose teams from, all in the name of a more competitive PvP experience for all, that don’t have too long queues.

I’m going to bm this thread just, for when season 8 rolls around. Then I can Necro this thread and be like… And once again… we told yall so, but once again you didn’t listen to the right crowd. Sad to say but at this point I’m not sure if GW2 Ranked League could survive another 2 season bleeding out more and more players….. Unless ANet just starts flatout offering Precursors or Legendary of the players choice, in a bid resuscitate Ranked PvP, because of the lack of players bother to play it.

PvP will die in this game if anet continues to herd PvE players into sPvP with these freebie rewards. I think the game would be much better off if WvW was given more rewards and PvP was just left to its own devices to make sure that people that wanted arena based combat were left to play with other people that wanted arena based combat as opposed to playing against people that just wanted an easy reward.

The ascended gear is very easy to get and honestly should be available through unranked if it’s going to be that accessible, because otherwise we’re left with tons of people that literally don’t give a kitten about PvP joining matches because of easy rewards. It’s very bad for the PvP community.

You’re not getting kittenty teammates in 100% of your games. You definitely are in a handful, but that’s the nature of team based gameplay. What you are getting is outcomped, outplayed, or are just tilting and playing like kitten because of it in your games. I’ve been there, but at least I had the knowledge that season 3/4 ran on a system that intentionally stacked one team with stronger players to force wins, meaning it was usually pretty obvious which team was better.

The nature of any MMR based system with teams that aren’t in a controlled environment with an extremely high potential for class stacking and hard-countering is going to be volatile like this. You’re going to go on losing streaks and winning streaks and eventually gravitate towards that 50/50 unless you’re an outlier.

Be patient. Limit your play a bit. I won three in a row this morning while I was playing well but still stopped playing because I knew we stole a couple of those wins and I didn’t want to push my luck. Don’t treat s5 as a grind, it just speeds up how quickly you get jaded. There are absolutely flaws in GW2 PvP, there’s no reason to rush to find them.

Hitting legendary in season 1-4 didn’t mean you were a good player whatsoever, just that you managed enough win streaks against players at your own MMR/pip range to grind it out.

People really need to stop thinking that the old grind system made for any indication of skill. I’ve seen a few people in my friends list that hit legend in s3/4 that are sub-900 in this system.

Honestly 5/6 pieces of Ascended for virtually no real investment is absolutely still fine. Yea, it’s unfortunate that you can’t finish the set for completion sake, but you can lose 300 games and win zero and still get the full set for no material investment, no gold investment, etc. My first set of Ascended gear cost me nearly 500g. This is free.

It’s fine. Strange to inhibit the full set, but fine.

Of all of the classes to cry about you pick arguably one of the three weakest in the game in sPvP simply because it can be difficult in 1v1’s .

Warrior is very far from OP. Try using blinds/blocks/dodges and you’ll find you have a much easier time dealing with warrior. Turtle up during their berserker, burst when it drops. You win. It’s literally that easy.

What about when both teams have 5 dragonhunters?

I keep queuing against teams with 3 DH’s and 2 Mesmers as a warrior. I would be MORE effective in those games by going afk. Both classes basically hard counter me as a condi war because of how much access to block they have.

How do I beat DH's?

As a warrior/necro competent player (primarily warrior) that’s playing mace+shield/longbow, how do I beat DH’s? I’m in high silver (although rapidly dropping every game there is 2+ DH’s on the other team), I wait out blocks, I avoid traps, I wait out invuln, etc., but I have no answer sometimes. There are plenty of times where I sit there autoattacking into block for what seems like 8 full seconds, only to be followed by invuln or blind spam, then a few seconds of open DPS (since DH’s dont have to evade, none of them ever do) before they heal to full and the process starts over.

Do I really need to leave a 2nd warrior to run Signet of Might GS/Axe+Shield to counter them or what? I just don’t feel like I do ANYTHING to any half-decent DH. Obviously I focus other targets when I can, but the DH just revives them up instantly somehow while invuln/blocking/stab any form of CC I can put out, and since I’m condi I have zero cleave or meaningful access to stab to stomp, and I can’t rely on my teammates to CC/stomp/be present because it’s silver.

I can’t just avoid them because there are 2+ on the other team in literally 100% of my games. What counters them?

well about your your rating i was paltinum and now im in gold tier 3, and in evry match up i got a team8 who randomly roaming the map for free kills no kdiding, had a match up where a longbow ranger(base longbow ranger) didnt even fight on point , gold tier 3…..

My last 3 games I literally didnt’ have a single competent teammate. Between typical non-plat thieves not doing ANYTHING they’re supposed to do, druids basically going afk (no idea why 90% of druids in lower MMR do this, guess it’s just something about the personality of players that play ranger), etc.

I can’t blame the matchmaking anymore. It’s just bad luck. Fortunately it’s probably short-run, but it makes me not want to play when I’m absolutely dependent on 4 other people to stand a chance in the game and they fail me a LOT.

Barring class-stacking, some games are just absolute snowballs. If a game ends up 500-450, it’s because both teams were making a lot of mistakes, not necessarily because they were evenly matched. I’d say a typical final score for a balanced game would be around 500-350, with the winning side actually rotating properly to maintain point control. If points are constantly flipping, there’s a problem.

Why do you need to climb the ladder? Bragging rights? You don’t get anything from having a higher MMR than anyone else anymore other than a title and some AP.

Yes, it sucks to be dragged down by awful teammates, but it’s happening to literally everyone. Even Helseth was losing numerous matches tonight because of teammates that literally didn’t know how to play at his MMR.

Be persistent. If you’re better than your teammates/opponents, you WILL gravitate upwards over time.

So I was excited to get to the Amaranth chest only to realize that I’m actually receiving less rewards now per win.

Looking at ascended shards per win:

Cerulean
25 shards per win

Jasper
18.75 shards per win

Safron, Persimmon
20 shards per win

Amaranth
16.67 shards per win

Byzantium (I’m guessing, could be worse, won’t be better.)
13.8 shards per win

The progression of shard rewards doesn’t seem intuitive. I only looked at shards, but PvP league tickets are probably the same way, due to the ramp up in required wins. How does everyone else feel about this?

It’s an infinitely repeatable system that persistently increases, even in losses. Stop being greedy.

I had a d/c on my team and lost rating, so it’s whatever. I stopped expecting much from ANet in terms of PvP. This system will likely be far better than anything else they’ve done in the long run, though.

The biggest pitfall continues to be class-stacking, which ANet will never do anything about.

Aside from raw power numbers being somewhat low, both of those look good defensively while still having plenty of crit chance and crit damage.

What about something like full Wanderers with Mara weapons and Zerker trinkets? You can use oils to get above 40% crit without Fury, you’re still hovering around 200% crit damage, and you still manage 2250+ power regardless of food choice, while keeping ~2950 toughness and 25k health. Plus, you get the even 33% boon dura with Durability runes for the party.

Obviously there are pros and cons to every build, but for coordinated zerging it feels like you should have enough Bloodlust stacks and party buffs to make up for what you lose giving up straight berserker to gain tons of toughness/vit.

Again, I can play a full berserker build and survive, but I feel like a lot of my potential is wasted from having to bounce in and out of the fight. I spend a lot of time throwing down CC with hammer and then GS3ing back out of the fight so I don’t get exploded on if my cooldowns aren’t up. I’m just looking for something that I can sit in fights a little bit longer with and potentially do more than harass and back out.

I know that full Mara with zerker is meta atm, and that’s fine, and if necessary I can run that. I’m just trying to min/max as well as possible to have the most positive impact overall.

I just started running WvW more seriously a few days ago and am trying to better prepare my warrior for better effectiveness. I’m currently running full berserkers gear, and while I can manage to survive with good positioning/CD’s’, I still definitely feel a little more squishy than I rightfully should be. For the record, I’m running This Build, which obviously provides great damage but requires more micromanaging to survive than I’d like.

I’m considering a more standard Soldiers armor with zerk trinkets/weapons, but I’m just curious if anyone else has any other suggestions.

I’ve actually been strongly considering rerolling from meta human female to charr male. Not 100% that I want to do it, especially when my current warrior is 100% map complete and all that jazz. Ascended gear though, so I wouldn’t miss that, except for my Mara WvW gear.

I started the season pretty much just needing to hit Ruby, starting in Sapphire.

I got 17 games in and haven’t opened GW2 in nearly two months. kitten the wings, they’re not worth playing for in the current system.

Hi there,

First, here’s the a recent post on the topic:

With the start of Season 4, we’ll be returning to Season 1’s style of matchmaking which focuses on creating the most balanced teams from the players queueing within your pip range. This change may widen the skill range of players in each division, but we feel that increased match quality is worth the trade-off of reduced prestige for this season. During Season 2 and 3 we added two league features that greatly impacted your ability to climb: start-of-season division placement based on previous season performance and win/lose streak pips, and both of these features will remain enabled for Season 4.

Season 4 matchmaking is already using MMR to create the most balanced teams possible. Teams are no longer “stacked” as they were in Season 2 and 3.

The problem (that we’re solving for S5) is that we’re currently searching for players close to your division to match you against. This means that the pool of players that we can pull from to create a match is much smaller than if we were using the entire pool of players. A player may have a high-enough MMR to put them in the top 100, but if they’re in Sapphire they’re only going to get matched with players that are in or around Sapphire. Season 5 will use the entire pool of players for creating matches – this should help the system create more balanced matches and improve queue times.

As for the “forced 50/50”, there’s nothing on the backend that forces a certain win-rate. This is a byproduct of your MMR settling.

It’s only a shame that there are still many people that need to suffer through the current matchmaking if they want to get their wings only to see “hey, we’re fixing it next season,” when that does literally nothing to make the journey for the ascension any more bearable, especially when you guard any information about how attainable the ascension will be after season 4 more closely than KFC guarded their 11 herbs and spices.

Despite me needing to basically only get through Sapphire this season, I’m weighing losing potentially all of my work to get it next season, or just forcing myself to suck it up and probably quitting after the end of S4 because of burnout and hatred of where the game is.

What comes after the "The Ascension"

The only thing that was toxic was being forced to play other classes when we only main 1 or two. I’m tired of the, “I don’t main this class but I need the rewards” mentality.It just skews matchmaking even further.

No, the toxic element was flooding sPvP with thousands of players who had absolutely no interest in sPvP. You can’t expect to have a healthy multiplayer environment when many of the players do not share the same fundamental goals of what a healthy environment should be.

You have to original sPvP hardcore that actually cared about “prestige” and about fair match-ups and about honest competition between players, and then you had far more players who were just in it to clear out their achievements and get the wings so they could get back to the PvE they actually enjoyed.

Nobody benefits from that.

So whatever they do next season, it should not involve any sort of exclusive reward that would have any purpose outside of an sPvP match. It could maybe be a finisher, or a title, or a nametag flair, just nothing that a PvEer would ever say “I never want to PvP, ever, but I really do want that thing.”

The problem isn’t that PvP got flooded with PvE players, but that ANet doesn’t have a system in place that actually separates PvE players from PvP players, meaning PvPers constantly have to play with them, carry them, take losses because of them, etc.

If there was any form of Elo system in this game as opposed to the absolute disaster that they brainstormed up, PvEers in PvP wouldn’t be an issue, because you’d only ever play with the ones that were actually as good as you are. Instead, a large portion of the playerbase that’s still actually playing sPvP have no actual interest in the game mode and continue to push PvPers away.

I have remarkably little to do still in season 4 to get my wings, but playing even 3 games a day (or a week, apparently) is too much for me to bother with. I just don’t enjoy literally any aspect of sPvP anymore, so I don’t want to play.

Currently doing my loose streak to tank mmr again. “But this behavior is not tolerated!”, right? Welp, your matchmaking system is really helping me out here, because I don’t even have to try, it tanks my mmr for me after I’ve received too many victories.

Mine is tanking naturally, but despite it being low, I just get worse players while my opponents get better. Same thing that happened in S3.

Since ANet refuses to ever speak about future patches, there’s no telling if the work you put into this season will transfer at all towards getting the wings after the end of the season (if it’s even possible, ANet is known to change their minds on a whim.)

I’d just avoid playing. You may not get any progress towards the wings, which may or may not take into account what you’ve done so far, but you’ll also not burn yourself out on a terrible PvP system. Hopefully season 5 is better, but don’t hold your breath.

I’ve gained one pip in 20 games. Glad people are putting together win streaks, I’m not.
