I love that Anet made the class suck so much that it made it VERY easy to quit the game, and their continued desire to keep it garbage keeps me from coming back.

Forfeit game pip loss

bLind.6278

Didn’t Evan say you shouldn’t lose a pip in this case?

Doesn’t matter what he (or any of the devs) says should happen, it matters what actually happens.

It’s not a new bug and it hasn’t been fixed. ANet implemented PvP leagues and then literally ignored them for the duration. I don’t know why anyone expects them to do anything positive in the future.

When are warriors going to be useful again?

in Warrior

bLind.6278

Best way to make something actually happen is to just stop giving feedback completely, in any game mode, positive or negative. Nothing terrifies a community manager more than being completely unaware of how his class is doing outside of some stats. Unfortunately, since warriors are VERY good in PvE right now, that won’t happen, and PvP warriors will remain garbage for the forseeable future.

Regardless, I’d advise everyone to just stop being public about new builds or ways to improve the class. ANet obviously doesn’t want to acknowledge any of it, so stop doing it.

As a community for warriors, just shut down. This subforum is already dead in comparison to virtually every other class, let’s just give it the death blow.

Nobody needs to quit the game, nor do they need to even stop playing warrior – they just need to stop giving feedback on the class. Talk about other stuff.

You’re not giving up on the class, just on any hope that anything will be done.

All I’m seeing reward-wise is a handful of gold, some Shards of Glory and access to an Ascended Backpiece if you hit Diamond. Considering I’m A) a newb, and a warrior, Diamond is definitely not happening.

My three year old Lenovo y500 with SLI 650m’s runs GW2 great. I get above 60fps in most areas and can even get playable frame rates in EotM. This is at 1080 resolution, as well. Not sure if it’s still $900, which you could probably find a better deal for that price now, but it’s definitely a good benchmark.

I rerolled two charr males to human females, one warrior and one necro. I think armor looks better on human females, especially helmets, and since I refuse to give ANet money they don’t deserve for skins that aren’t on the TP anymore anyway, I have to use what I already have, and those skins work better on human females. They’re far more versatile when it comes to armor. Also, I prefer the sleeker animations, especially the passive/idle animations.

I wanted to roll a human male, but the lack of good beard/hair selection is just off-putting, and born males are awkwardly proportioned and I can’t get past how their running animation feels so sluggish.

Lets see what balance changes and PR comments they have to save grace after new years first. You can’t just release this mess and not communicate AND expect your game to be successful.

Does it really matter what comments Anet makes when they’ve been proven liars?
They said elites builds will be an alternative to core builds and wont be a direct upgrade. Well guess what? The only class this is true for is Warriors and that’s why nobody plays them in this current “meta”.

Many/most semi-competitive (lol) builds for warrior use Berserker too. Just an example of how bad base warrior is right now.

Axe is good, its just GS little brother for no reason.

Because GS offers no legitimate burst in PvP, so Axe kinda fills the role.

Hammer is pretty much kittening garbage all around at this point, though. Awful damage on every ability, excruciatingly long cooldowns on everything, everything is incredibly predictable and telegraphed and therefore probably will never even hit in todays blind/block/evade spam nonsense.

Honestly, Hammer is easily one of the worst weapons in the game right now. Combine that with the fact that every warrior weapon is designed to be INTENTIONALLY weak due to Fast Hands and you have a perfect example of why warrior is kittening garbage right now.

And no, ANet won’t address any of this.

5k+ Dota2 MMR player - GW2 PvP is unfair

in PvP

Posted by: bLind.6278

bLind.6278

I wouldn’t worry about it. In the long run, GW2 has literally a zero percent chance to become a legitimate esport. Even WoW struggled with esports when it had massively more support, development, and far superior balance.

Compared to actual competitive games like LoL, DotA, CSGO, GW2 is basically just a joke. The $200k investment into the league is basically just a $200k advertisement once the tournament comes around. It’s not hard to see the viewers that DotA pulls in during the International because of the huge prize pools – ANet just wants in on the publicity. Funny thing is that huge prize pools are meaningless when there’s limited support for the game (especially sPvP, which is largely ignored in favor of PvE), and even if they manage decent viewership, nobody will understand what’s going on because of the awful watchability of GW2, how difficult it is to follow, and how deep the combat is at first. Even someone that isn’t even playing can be overwhelmed.

WoW was at least fortunate enough to have easy-to-see visual cues for abilities in combination with cast bars and a level of predictability. GW2 offers literally nothing to the viewer to help them understand and make out what’s happening in game. GW2 is not prepared for esports in literally any aspect whatsoever. A large prize pool doesn’t mean kitten when there’s less than 6 teams in the entire world that are competitive at a top level, and a massive percentage of people that are even playing the same game don’t give a kitten. Why should a random viewer care when pretty much nobody else that’s actually playing the game does?

They wont.

History of Warrior

bLind.6278

There are always 2-3 classes that aren’t “meta” each time around. Right now those classes are Thief and Warrior (Guard to a lesser extent). It’s how the whole concept of a PvP meta works. You’ll rarely, if ever, have a time when every class is equally viable. Equal balance is what’s aimed for but not realistically anticipated.

What about when the meta is three professions and two of the worst professions aren’t just not meta, but actively weaken their team with their presence?

You’re basically implying that it’s perfectly fine that warriors and thieves are so weak that they literally hurt their team by being there because they were strong in the past.

Awesome.

Anet, Please Care

bLind.6278

As much as I’d hate it for the playerbase that loves the core game, mechanics and everything, I really hope this decision to virtually ignore balance for two months at the opening of their ESports push just kills the game. I really do.

Developers need to learn that the actions they take, and more importantly, those that they DON’T take have a real impact on the games they’re developing. ANet will surely lose a lot of players in the short-term due to completely ignoring the playerbase for months, but many will return for another chance when they actually get around to a major balance patch.

Even though I what LoL has become, I always respected Riot for their constant small adjustments to champions to help balance them properly (as of two years ago, no idea if this is still the case with 150 champions to balance). ANet obviously doesn’t share a similar development ideology (nor do most dev teams these days, sadly) and we’re all being punished by it.

It’s pretty bad when even Valve is quicker to respond to massive community outrage over balance/changes, to the point where they completely reverted a major change, than ANet, who is trying to get into the ESport scene. Valve had every reason to ignore it: bigger playerbase allowing for more attrition, already established in ESports, a lot of people who will continue to play in spite of bad changes, yet it took less than a week to change something unpopular. Meanwhile, ANet is staunchly holding out until late January to make any serious adjustments.

Just like WvW Season 1, this foray into Season-based sPvP will ultimately go down as yet another massive flop and massive letdown, which only further reinforces the idea that GW2 will never be a legitimate ESport because the devs just don’t care enough to make it one.

Conspiracy on why Warriors are UP

Warriors are still pretty ridiculous as a PVE class, Anet has to be very careful about buffing them in PVP without affecting PVE too much, otherwise optimal raid groups will end up being 9 Warriors and 1 Druid/Tempest healer.

Buff them defensively, give them access to cripple, and make it so that being blocked/evaded/etc. doesn’t completely negate the class and its massive cooldowns.

I would recommend first looking at underused weapon combinations and traits. I really don’t want to turn warriors into GS or nothing profession.

What bothers me while playing warrior is that weapon swap cool down. I just cannot switch the weapons at the appropriate time because of this. 10 seconds feels way too long for me. Of course there is a trait where it reduces swap cool down, yet this also means that there’s no other choice but taking discipline trait just for one single trait. Will zero cool down make warrior OP? Otherwise what would be a big deal?

Which is of course the “Fast hands,” that everyone wants as a baseline.

Why they would design every weapon around Fast Hands and then not give it baseline at launch is beyond me. Just shows how inept the development team really is.

Our elite spec isn’t viable in PvP/WvW, and warriors received nothing but nerfs for the last 12 months and were incredibly pigeon-holed into very specific builds that just don’t compete with the stupid damage that every other class can put out.

The “simplicity” of warriors has become their downfall. We have no answers to the ridiculous evade/block/invuln/blind spam, our weapons and cooldowns are based ENTIRELY on the concept of Fast Hands weapon swapping (which is worthless when they all miss/block/evade/invuln, etc.) and we just don’t do damage anymore outside of gimmick builds.

Best part is that Anet literally does not care. They’ve not so much as acknowledged that warriors are in an undesirable spot. Not even pre-HoT necros were ignored so badly.

They’ve probably lost a ton of players to other games already, and they still don’t seem to care.

Greatsword 4

in Warrior

bLind.6278

Greatsword doesn’t need any more love.
But, the throw on 4 does need some work. Faster projectile, at least.

Hard CC is a Hammer thing.

Physical skills ought to ditch the dashing and work on pulls instead. Or, y’know, fix the dash glitches. Maybe add a pull to Bolas. Not to say we don’t need better closers, but Greatsword isn’t where it’s needed.

wat

Virtually every weapon could use some tuning at this point. GS is the mobility weapon that trades that mobility for damage. Literally every ability on GS could be improved and the weapon still wouldn’t be OP outside of PvE (which is functionally easy to solve.)

AA 3rd hit needs to apply cripple. Absolutely no way around that. The only cripple application on GS is from GS4, which can be completely dodged either during the 5s window before the projectile hits you by simple walking in a different direction, or evading, or any of the other billion passive evades/blocks/misses/etc. that the game has. On top of that, it’s a 4s cripple on a 15s cooldown. Warriors won’t even GET to their target in that 4s unless Rush is on cooldown and the kittening planets align and it doesn’t send you off into Africa somewhere, or you trade your biggest damage on GS (as well as the most reliable evade) in Whirlwind to reconnect.

GS2 is excellent at attacking players that other classes downed for you, since it’s virtually impossible to hit with more than a couple of hits without quickness procced, but otherwise it’s just a self-root before you cancel it early because your enemy is now 40 yards away and chaining ranged 5k crits into you.

State of Warriors?

in Warrior

Posted by: bLind.6278

All the cool warrior skills are given to Guardians and Revs.
For example: before berserker specs reveal people have been begging for warriors to get spear as a land weapon. People have also been begging for some pulls on warrior because we have very limited tools to stick to our target.

What happened? Simple, Guardian gets a piercing spear 1200 range multipletarget UBBLOCKABLE pull that is extremely reliable. It’s almost as good as “Throw Bolas”!!!

kitten, warriors have a cripple on ONE weapon that isn’t on a massive cooldown and isn’t stupidly easily dodged. Hell, GS4’s cripple (assuming it hits – protip: it wont) will wear off before you even get to your target in most cases.

Whoever the current warrior designer is should probably be put out to pasture.

Possible weapon adjustments to help Warriors

in Warrior

Posted by: bLind.6278

bLind.6278

Mace

M1 – Moderate damage, understandably slow from an RP perspective. 3rd attack applies weakness. I wouldn’t change it.

M2 – Block/Reflect (with trait) with very short duration. Gives a completely irrelevant amount of Adrenaline if it doesn’t block anything. If a counterattack is possible, damage is incredibly low given the long cooldown and melee-range requirement. Damage should be adjusted from 1218 base to a minimum of 1450 or so. The idea is for a punishing counterattack. Make it actually punish them.

M3 – Ridiculously insignificant damage (did the QA team mistype 0?) for a 1s daze on a 15s cooldown. It’s actually laughable. Yes, it’s an interrupt, but the ability virtually doesn’t do ANYTHING else and has a 15s cooldown. Can become “op” with lowered CD and perplexity runes maybe, but is otherwise a laughably bad ability.

Skull Crack – Single target stun with very low damage for a burst ability, but a better stun duration on full adrenaline than Hammer offers. However, due to low damage and single target, it’s just another mediocre ability that doesn’t offer a ton to the warrior without forcing him to swap to another weapon to actually get something accomplished.

Mace overall is the support/semi-control weapon, and offers very little to either party at the cost of the ability to do any sort of meaningful damage. Solid idea of a weapon, but very poor implementation. Currently not useful outside of gimmicky control builds.

Sword

S1 – Low auto-attack damage offset by bleed application, and a friendly cripple on AA3. Ironically the only warrior weapon whose auto-attack applies cripple, when typically used on condi builds, which do damage even after the enemy leaves melee range. If you want to give warriors a true condi weapon, I’d change cripple to a poison application instead, or possibly give it both (as this would still massively benefit warriors who have no other means to poison a target outside of armor runes. As an aside, I’d increase the duration of the cripple to 2s since sword autoattacks are fairly quick.

S2 – Another attack that suffers from incredibly low damage, but at least has some decent utility to make up for in a 600 range leap and 3s cripple application on hit. Because of the relatively low cooldown and utility, I’d call this ability balanced. If any change was made, I’d suggest adding 3s swiftness on use, which hopefully wouldn’t break the theme of the weapon.

S3 – Potentially brutal ability that doesn’t fit the concept of a condi weapon, but still a favorite for power builds when combined with S1 cripple and S2 leap. 5k+ crits below 50% in zerker gear feel a little low, but still passable. I’d suggest making the ability more useful against targets above 50%, but it’s not in a bad state.

Flurry – Low damage even in power builds, but the immobilize offers great utility and opportunity to swap for GS2. I still disagree with the idea of an ability being balanced around switching to another weapon.

Sword is supposed to be our condi weapon when in reality it’s better suited as a mobile power weapon. Bleed damage in GW2 is the worst damaging condition in the game, and the only kind that warrior stacks (barring torch/longbow). The weapon itself is solid, but will never see its’ true potential without a buff to bleeds, addition of other condis (poison) or more base utility in traits.

Shield

S4 – Good damage, 2s stun, moderately high cooldown (typical for a 4th slot skill). I’d consider adding 2 stacks of Vulnerability on hit just to give it a little more to compliment the mainhand.

S5 – Baseline 3s block that reflects with traitlines. Without Defense traitline, it’s very mediocre if not still useful. I’d suggest adding 3s regen (or longer) to make it a little better.

Longbow is pretty much well balanced, rifle is a gimmick weapon, and Warhorn is a solid support weapon. Changing those weapons wont add anything to warrior that is needed.

Just from looking at the weapons, you can see that warriors design has been based around trade-offs. I can’t speak for the other classes, but being forced to give up mobility for damage, damage for some mild crowd control or whatever doesn’t seem fair on such a blatantly straightforward class. My alt is a necromancer, and I’ve found that the Reaper skill line is more warrior-esque than anything that warriors have, and it has the additional benefit of applying various conditions. Hell, imagine a warrior 2h with nearly 100% crit on AA, a reconnect on a 6s cooldown that AoE blinds and chills, a stability ability that you can hit again to lose stability and AoE fear, a huge radius AoE cleave with great damage, and a 1.5s stun that also leaves a chill field and does increasing damage based on enemy health. It’s like every warrior weapon rolled into one. Just from the raw utility, not even taking damage into account, it’s a far superior weapon than any warrior has.

Warrior has been made into a class that can bully weak players with bursty combination builds (Shield 4 into Evis > swap > 1HB) and potentially do massive damage, but against players that are using their kits well and counterplaying, warriors weaknesses really show. Thanks to massive cooldowns on abilities, a single missed/blocked/evaded ability can significantly hurt a warriors ability to chain attacks that are virtually required to hit to have a chance at winning. Missing hammer 5 basically means you swap back to GS/bow for 30 seconds and just try to survive.

Possible weapon adjustments to help Warriors

Hammer

H1 – Sub 2k damage on 2/3 hits when AA has ZERO utility and has slow attack speed. 3rd hit crits from ~2400 damage on the top end. Again, ZERO UTILITY, SLOW ATTACK SPEED, and still lowish damage.

H2 – Slow attack that crits for 3k and applies vulnerability with MASSIVE CD. Cooldown should be reduced to 8s MAXIMUM.

H3 – Crits for 1400, applies cripple for 7s, 12s cooldown. First, the damage is laughable, but what’s more of a joke is that this is a longer cripple than GS4 on a shorter cooldown, AND IT CLEAVES. I would trade H3 for GS4 any and every day of the week. Ability is probably the most balanced in this kit, even if damage is on the incredibly low-side.

H4 – Lowish damage, coming in at ~2100 crits. Has a very short knockback attached for utility, and is AoE. CD is 20 seconds, making it mostly balanced. I’d love to see a field dropped where you cast that applies even a 2s cripple for anyone engaging you that you may have missed.

H5 – 3k damage crits, 1 second cast time that feels like 2 before impact, 2 second stun. EXTREMELY predictable. Offers no utility after 2s stun. Should also proc Vulnerability or grant 1s stability on cast.

Earthshaker – Well designed, mostly balanced. Only downside is how telegraphed it is.

Very easy to avoid if you’re familiar with Hammer animations. This ability would be better balanced by changing adrenaline system as opposed to the skill itself.
Known as the control weapon, hammer offers only two (three with burst skill) controlling abilities on long cooldowns with insignificant damage. Hammer is hamstrung by low damage, meaning it’s balanced around the requirement to use fast hands to switch back to a better damaging weapon.

Axe

A1 – One of the best damaging chains warrior has. Offers no utility, but has highest DPS of any weapon in warrior kitten nal. Cleaves. I can’t rightfully ask for any buffs to A1 without easily making it OP.

A2 – Two seperate hits that can total around 2600 damage if both crit. Applies 4 stacks of vulnerability. Fairly short cooldown, enough to stack vuln infinitely if you camp Axe and never miss an attack. Wouldn’t change.

A3 – Fairly quick projectile speed, moderate damage, 10s cooldown. Leaps and bounds better than GS4 for actually applying Cripple. Projectile will track target (within reason) to ensure it hits. Wouldn’t change it barring a small increase to cripple duration.

Eviscerate – Great ability, if not slightly telegraphed/predictable. Excellent damage.

Downside is related to the Leap aspect, which aren’t well programmed in GW2 causing a lot of random misses that should have hit. Mostly balanced, and primary solutions require bugfixes as opposed to tuning. To fix in the interim, an increase to 400/450 range on the leap would help.
The axe is a great weapon and probably one of the more balanced in the warrior kitten nal. It’s well designed and doesn’t punish the warrior or force any tradeoff for damage or utility.

Possible weapon adjustments to help Warriors

in Warrior

Hey guys, I’ve been around off and on since release with only about 500 hours in game, and most of those admittedly on Necro, but as a recent warrior main (and more recent warrior defector) I’ve noticed that even some simple adjustments to the weapon skills could go a long way to make warriors more viable.

That being said, here’s some thoughts I have on warrior weapons and how I would adjust them. I reiterate, I’m not a veteran warrior player (adept at best), although I have been playing MMO’s for nearly two decades, mained warrior in WoW for over five years, and otherwise have tens of thousands of hours in competitive gaming. If, however, anyone sees anything that they would change, adjust or tweak, please feel free to comment. In the end, these are just suggestions and are more likely to be band-aids on bullet holes designed to at least make life suck a little less for warriors.

Getting right into it:

Greatsword

GS is required in many builds due to mobility. When abilities are used as reconnects, warrior is often punished by loss of damage (GS3 only does dmg to close targets, for example). GS5 is very unreliable, but decent damage. GS4 has low damage and misses frequently.

GS1 – Third hit offers literally nothing. First and second strikes apply vulnerability, third should apply cripple at minimum.

GS2 – Excellent damage POTENTIAL. Possibly upwards of 9k on Indestructable Golem if all strikes land (and crit). Virtually impossible to get off more than 3 or 4 hits on a target that isn’t afk or stunned with literally no cooldowns/passives left. Damage can be reduced by 25% if you make it mobile, or reduce cast time while increasing individual hit damage and increase CD to even in out. This is GS’s primary damage ability, but yet has half the cooldown of their best UTILITY abilities. Even pressing GS2 in a fight virtually guarantees you’re losing the damage from GS3 and will be forced to put GS4 on cooldown (for twice as long as your self-snare.)

GS3 – Great skill design, but make it one continuous impact (so damage doesn’t drop off if used as a reconnect) and make it drop a small cripple/chill field upon completion. This allows the player to predict enemy movement to adequately apply snare effects. Currently, damage per hit is incredible low, with crits in the 1500 range with berserker amulet, meaning 6000 MAX possible damage to a single target, except you will only be able to strike the same target 3 times, meaning 4500 max IF you use a reconnect in melee range, sacrificing mobility down the line.

GS4 – Projectile speed is incredibly slow, easily counterable by simple not standing still. Represents the ONLY cripple/snare on GS set and is easily dodged. CD is 15s for a 4s debuff. Why? That’s minimum 11s window where you’re just chasing your enemy, being forced to trade two of your damage skills for reconnects just to stay close.

GS5 – Good skill. I’d honestly add a 1/2 second stun or immob on hit. It’s single target and only crits for ~3200 on Heavy armor, 3800 on light. Damage is fine for reconnect, but needs more utility to counter its habit of completely missing the target. Either 8s swiftness/immob on hit/etc.

Arc divider – well designed. I have no suggestions/complaints.

Popular as the “mobile” weapon. Greatsword is definitely mobile, but when used for its mobility, it sacrifices a lot of damage. Also, it’s a “moble” weapon that’s primary damage comes attached with what is essentially a 4 second root. It’s very situation oriented and very risk vs reward based, but with long cooldowns that punish you regardless of how you use it. Virtually only balanced if you have quickness procced.

Advice for my Warrior

Hate to say it, but you picked the wrong class to play. In 17 years of MMO gameplay, I’ve never seen a class in a worse state in any game, without so much as an acknowledgement from the development team.

I mean, you’ll have fun on your warrior in PvE content, and assuming you have a TON of gold to spend on armor runes and everything, you’ll even be viable in fractals/dungeons(lol), but that’s it. Outside of PvE content, warrior isn’t even trash-tier. You’re actively hurting your team by playing warrior at this point.

Warriors SUCK(BERSERKER MODE)PVP style

Yet I still can’t get enough of going zerkerberker, charging into a full mid fight, and destroying everything that moves in 5 seconds.

In PvE? Congrats on charging into a group of spiders and killing them. In PvP against non-braindead opponents the only thing you’ll charge into with Berserker spec is your death.

You’re that bad, huh?

Man what’s your point, everyone knows that you can kill someone, on certain circumstances, with the build you keep posting and keep faping on, i can understand that, but that becomes bit boring, what’s your intention ? To claim warriors are fine ? Or to promote yourself as the only warrior pwning ? Or you just trolling. Or using reverse psychology. Either way i think forum has enough posts about “warriors totally fine, berserk fine” from pve players.

I can post a build of Body blow/distracting strikes Hammer/Mace Shield warrior with Rabid amulet and krait runes, then make a footage of me Earthshaking someone into, staggering blow, into back breaker into kick into bullrush into stomp and when the enemy mid flight using rampage into throw boulder into seismic leap into kick into dash, leaving form into shield bash, into pommel bash.

So a target with 20 + stacks of bleed which dies on the rampage part. And trust me it will work on some people. Then what ? I ll run to the forum and post it everywhere with the claim Warriors are fine ? Sigh…

Nope.

Like 5 comments in this thread and all you’ve managed to accomplish is to show everyone you’re a punk with no real input.

Grats on what you call “success” with a gimmick build, qt.

Berserker BWE3 Feedback

in Warrior

Warriors get kited constantly, and as soon as they blow a long CD to get into melee range, 100% of their attacks get blocked/evaded/dodged and then their target has used his disconnect and has 10+ seconds of free reign against the warrior.

Warriors are 100% balanced around Berserker in terms of the damage they can output, but that leaves them with no survivability in the current massive damage meta. Hell, warriors token damage ability is built around a target that isn’t moving. It barely even works in HoT pve.

It’s a class that needs a COMPLETE redesign to be worth a kitten , and ANet won’t do that.

My advice to anyone that still wants to play GW2 is to reroll, and for anyone that wants to play warrior, I suggest straight quitting.
