No, there isn’t a single game that is decent in unranked – I get people that has no idea how to play conquest, sure it varies some people can actually play tiny bit decent but most of the time they have no clue whats going on and even if the games can get close at times the actual match itself is so bad in quality It’s a pain to queue or stream

You interpreted that from your own point of view. I could propose that he meant that thief is so strong because it has such insane mobility that there’s no use in even trying to counter it.

No it was literally ignore him because he’s inconsequential.

1. Sindrener was all but inconsequential. You couldn’t be more wrong.
2. The best way to counter thief (exception mesmer portal) is to ignore it because you can’t outrun it anyway. If he goes for a decap the better play is this often to not follow. This does NOT mean that he is inconsequential. I’d argue tage was less helpful.

Saying that, of course thief is not as good as the meta professions (scrapper, rev, reaper, mesmer, tempest). That goes without saying.

I’m not taking anything away from the fella. You’d be hard pressed to play thief better than he did.

BUT

I said he was inconsequential b/c once they figured out w/e he does doesn’t matter in the outcome of the match they put a whipping on oRNG. It has nothing to do with his personal performance and EVERYTHING to do with the state of thief in today’s game.

That being said i will say bad form on the saying you weren’t using TS. We don’t need to know that and you should honestly keep that stuff to yourself. Either way I finally enjoyed a pro season match. Thanks.

That’s why I said I don’t want to take anything away from our opponents, I just wanted to explain why some things might have seemed strange (communication wise) or rotation wise from our side, it was mainly due to this, no disrespect whatsoever towards anyone. In some weird sense I think that actually made us play better than with TS because calling out bad rotations might have made the games worse.

I don’t want to take anything away from the guys we played against but we had no expectations whatsoever coming into this, we are more or less just playing this PL season out hence why we went on other classes than meta to put on a show, we were expecting to get 500-0 more or less.

Also it was the first time we played with Skovo/Baenz who we just asked to help us to get 5 players, we were also not using TS. I’m still glad we did this, it was also very enjoyable for all of us even if we lost in the end

Also bloodlust+leeching on sb is by far my favourite, swap to sb when something is down get bloodlust stack+leeching procc and then engage with dp with air/fire+leeching thats some nice extra damage on your next burst

I don’t complain at the start of a match or decide we are going to lose because of a thief. What bothers me is when you have a thief that keeps dying at mid fights, won’t decap or rotate to help stop decaps, tries to win Skirmisher of the year award while we keep losing home. I wait to see how they perform. 9/10 of them will act indignant when you ask them to do their job. Like I said in a previous post that you glossed over is that it gets really annoying when you have a thief that tries to be a teamfighter at mid or 1v1 for far against a class they have no business fighting instead of doing their job. Like earlier I had one on my team that tried and died 1v1ing a druid at far. The other day I had one that kept rushing from home to mid on legacy and just letting someone run past him to backcap home as I was running past him on a necro to stop it from happening. That complete lack of awareness is annoying and when I said “Theif could you please pay more attention” even using the word please I got a string of insults from said thief for asking him to not let enemies decap us while not doing anything to decap the enemy nodes.

On the other hand I had a thief that was doing stuff like this and I asked him to work on his skills some and instead of being an kitten he whispered and asked me how to improve. I pointed out he needed to stealth up when he wants to decap so he doesn’t just pull enemies with him and die off point and that when he came to +1 a fight he attacked the tempest on point at henge node instead of the necro on the ledge freecasting on us since I (on engi) and someone else (can’t recall what he was on) were trying to hold on to the point at a clutch moment at the end of a close game that could win or lose it for us. He was cool, thanked me for the advice and now when we see each other we are friendly to one another.

So I don’t hate thief, it’s the stubborn players that play it that refuse to change their bad habits or pick a new class that is more suitable. Someone once told me that if I wanted to fight in teamfights to change classes because I wasn’t playing the role correctly plus I’m old now and my reflexes aren’t what they were once so thief is a bad pick for me. Some players who play thief can’t accept that the class is bad for them and continue to insist to play it. Which if they do want to, then fine, do it but please not in ranked.

A thief has no business saving your team from decaps unless it’s an enemy thief

@bluri I’ll tolerate you bunching guards with warrs and thieves, since they are a one-trick-pony. But rangers? Rangers are definitely in the meta, they even have a notable presence in the ESL Pro leagues. And a good win rate as well, I might add.. They aren’t even a filler class, some teams opt to have druids instead of other classes.

I can agree to some extent. You see druid being represented in NA (good for you) but in EU you will see 0 druids, you had one team and that’s because they didn’t have the time to reroll mesmer.

And I still can’t grasp how you can think it’s not a filler class, why would you EVER pick a druid over scrapper/mesmer?

If we talk competitively theres quite a few classes that suffers the same issues. Guardians, Rangers, Warriors and Thieves

Ok, this thread is getting ridiculous. People are now just trying to point out any scenario where thieves aren’t ideal instead of talking to the point of the thread.

Thieves are not the worst class. They’re exceptionally strong in solo Q due to the nature of their role, even though you still wouldn’t want to stack them and wouldn’t necessarily take them over something like a rev in an competitive game <- changed this one.

And regardless, they’re still much better than warriors or DH in most if not all scenarios (well, DH are probably better in low tier games for players who aren’t good at playing thieves, I guess).

Pulmonary impact with Impact strike has such amazing synergy I can’t possibly swap it for BV. Even after the buff most classes always have stab, the ones that have block. I don’t see how you could do more clutch plays with BV compared to Impact strike.

The fact that you can start the chain on a different target and swap to the downed guy, interrupt resses, list is long. I also use it very often offensivly in +1s to save initiative for chain lock, if you interrupt with chain 1 and then hold chain 2 for when he casts again that’s 2 pulmonary proccs already and count in the damage itself from Impact Strike.

I actually prefer DD, gives the survivability to a full glass thief with dodges. Also pulmonary impact makes headshot even more important than before to master correctly.

I don’t think players actually want to have a winning 1v1 matchup for every class. Just that they feel the need to whine for a class they perceive as weak. And that for some reason or another that whining usually takes the form of 1v1 complaints.

Also I’ve actually watched your stream, and will likely be picking up HoT because I want to try the DD build you run. From my impression the build was strong, and you definitely did the job you set out to do very well. But I’m from my limited viewing and experience with HoT it seems like other classes are able to do the job(s) they set out to do even better. If I had too I guess I would put it as: “This looks like it should be meta, but I don’t think it is because other things are just better at the moment?”

Actually I’m kinda curious how you deal with condi-clear. Because it seems as if your build would have problems with condi’s. Didn’t get to watch enough to see if you do have problems with condi’s though or tell how you dealt with it if you didn’t.

I won’t deny that playing thief in the current meta is not easy, but neither was playing a proper shatter mesmer pre all trait buffs before HoT etc. Same goes for if you played necro way back in the days.

The only condiclear source I have is dash against chill and then signet/shadowstep. Most of the gameplay comes from knowing when to engage and not to engage, including how to manage blind against revs as an example.

Thief is high risk and not enough reward at the moment compared to other classes, but there is no doubt in my mind I could see thief comp work, hell i’d even be interested in bringing back thief/shatter mesmer

I have a couple of issues with this statement coming from you.

First you don’t even play a thief in Pro League anymore due to what i’m assuming is your opinion that they aren’t viable.

Second you site that thieves haven’t been able to 1v1 reliably for 1/2 of the games lifespan. This means that they’ve only continued to be played due to +1 and decap ability.

So after connecting the dots of those 2 facts and getting the conclusion that (according to you) thieves strengths of +1 and decap are no longer strengths to keep them being played. We already know they can’t 1v1 or contribute reliably in team fights.

Now I have to ask this question:

Why are you coming on so strong to fellow thieves when you know all their gripes are legit and founded in facts? Even Toker, who completely outclassed you in last WTS, switched to revenant. The only “big name” thief who refuses to give up thief was basically asked to leave his team due to not wanting to switch off thief.

I think you’re a good player and respect your opinion….I just wonder why you would make these statements when your guys class is in such dire straights.

You guys can have your opinion about a fellow thief outclassing me, I will never mind that – but i think you should at first compare the compositions before speaking. That is all. Think about what we played, thats all i ask for. You guys are incredibly short sighted when it comes to small details, It’s alright.

I would gladly and I find thief exceptionally strong in this current meta but what my team and I wants might not always be on the same page, I will always play to my teams needs, I feel thief was really weak in start of HoT because no one knew the capabillity of other classes/weaknesses. But if you do look at my stream/vods you will see how much a thief could excel in this meta if played right, of course there are other options that are more appealing by far. Does that mean thief is weak? Hell no, thief is incredibly strong just as necro used to be in the old meta a long time ago but no one could play around a necro, you need to play around the thief if you want it to be successful.

Let me counter it, do you think it would be healthy in a gamemode where a thief could 1v1 any class in this game? To me it sounds so broken in so many ways possible.

I find myself being able to 1v1 classes as reapers/revenants successfully, do you agree i should be able to kill bunkers too then? So i’m unstoppable in 1v1s?

Why im coming on so strong is people look back 2 years when S/D was meta, when the builds were all so slow paced where thieves could easily kill certain builds 1v1 because nothing else would die around the map

I think teams are too afraid to pickup thief which is only natural because it is much higher risk compared to easier/secure “professions” as revenants. But imo a strong thief would still outshine a rev if you played it 99% of its capabilities.

it’s setup dependent.
if opponent got necros, eles and no gua thief can carry hard.
if opponent has no necro but got plenty scrappers, druids or guas you better reroll to something else.

Actually dp thief is an amazing +1 against druids

thief+shatt mes still favourite duoq by far, also the best winrate with it for all the duoq’s i’ve done
