Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
We knew it wasn’t going to show rating, we knew it was going to start with top100…. They said this. Don’t cry now. Just hope they’ll expand on it soon.
^Because it wasn’t resource-consuming. Small team worked on that for the last few months. I mean, there’s 300 people working at Anet.
^So? It is nice to see an initiative get some attention. Hope this takes off.
Run in a group, focus on aoe dmg/fast switching targets. You’ll get your badges.
Less trash talks? Go to the tier threads in WvW forums…
Treb is all about opportunity cost. It’s your choice, but you have to be able to deal with it.
Feature-wise it’s still not where we want it to be. Population-wise I can only say many competitive teams are on a hiatus.
But we’re still here, on the forums, praying it’ll get better ‘soon’.
Blue team wins because they have more points. Happened to me too once.
Now…let’s hope they activate ’em tonight.
They should let us upgrade the aoe limit through WXP ranks. Make it super expensive though and cap it.
I’d say don’t keep it in permanent. Let it cycle, maybe twice a year. Let it come back with new worlds/upgrades/enemies, etc.
Why?
The initial excitement will be tempered at the end of the month. (Like with everything, it’s normal) People asking to have it permanent might change their minds at the end of the month.
It’s always fun to “want” something. It will recreate the hype for it, which is fun for the players, good for the devs. Otherwise this will become just a minigame that many people may forget. If it comes back with new worlds and lots of other stuff it will stay fun and refreshing.
To satisfy the “other” people. Some people are not sure about anets priorities/resource management (Something I don’t agree with). So to ease the minds of those and to make sure there’s not to much pressure from the playerbase to create new 8bit-content A-net should cycle it.
Anyway, that’s my 2 cents. Loving the update thus far.
It’s a problem with the matchmaking. If they get that better, there’ll be no cries about getting more people in pvp.
They said it’ll take a week… That’s a pretty good timeframe…
^ They do their updates differentely. This is just a hint on the living story stuff. More stuff will come and the page will be updated throughout march.
Agree with everything. Point 5 won’t happen though. Unless it’s gamebreaking. Let’s hope for some good news on SOTG.
Let’s hope for march. :p I think they had some adjusting to do to their plans due to feedback we gave on the 2-team rounds, etc.
I wonder how it’s going with custom arenas, I tought they said they were in testing a month or 2 back.
Anyway, the tournaments are almost where they need to be.
Eles aren’t even that good orb runners. Those rangers are doing pretty good though.
^They can do the automated tournaments like they had in gw1. That happened 3 times a day.
I think we’ll have to wait for the febr patch for them to implement it fully. I think they’re testing it now and will release it alongside matchmaking.
I hope so atleast.
I’ll say it again. Those minis and unid dyes aren’t pve nor pvp. Pvp players should atleast get a specific laurel vendor with atleast those 2 things in it.
I mean…why not?
Avoid “winner stays”, as not knowing how long you’ll be playing can be a hindrance to us casuals with other obligations. Short and simple is great.
“Winner stays” should be seen in an increase in rewards the further you go. But it has to be capped to prevent farming. You could do 4 rounds as we have 4 maps. So each map once in a random order maybe.
About the time restraint. At every win they should make a pop up “Continue”-“Quit”.
It just gets annoying to requeue every time. :p
Yes, I agree on the visibility. When I started doing pvp I went to the first npc I saw. That was the hotjoin one. Started to do some hotjoins and wanted to try tournaments a few days later. I saw there was a team needed. So started to search a team without luck because I was low rank. :p
After a week I noticed it was possible to do solo queue because someone said that to me. So that wasn’t very visible to me. :p
As for rankings, spectator mode, etc. that’s all coming further down the road.
I agree it would be cool to give incentive for more ppl to try spvp. But its actually the exact reason why they can’t.
It would go against the fundamental design where spvp is to be treated as a completely different game than WvW and PvE. This is to ensure that Spvp remains the pure competitive pvp system that it is without being tainted by pve gear, grind, etc.
If they had laurels for the pvp dailys, then the ppl who pve and wvw mostly would feel like their being forced to do spvp. This is because the laurels have actual benefits for them, whereas laurels dont really bring any benefits to the spvp game.
I know its hard to imagine that some ppl only play this game for the PvE, (no seriously, how is that possible??) but they do exist.
And the other way around? Why should I be forced to do pve when I want to use those laurels to buy those unid dyes and minis. Dailies/monthlies are optional. If they really want to keep it split they can always add a pvp laurel vendor with some stuff in it.
^ Pvp is getting attention in febr/march. They’ve been saying that since december.
People keep saying this, but it remains completely, horribly moronic.
You CANNOT take 7 months to FINALLY introduce some sweeping changes to the game. It’s too late! It’s already too late, and taking even MORE time is just adding insult to injury.
The PvP side of the game receives so little support it’s absolutely laughable. Any other PvP game, especially the MOBAs, have been receiving several times as much support and actually seeing changes that shake up the meta in some way. Here? Nothing. Nothing at all.
It’s pathetic.
We can whine about it all we want. It’s just the fact. I would love to have seen these things at launch or very soon after but it’s not. They’ve set the deadline to febr/march since december (i think), so we can only wait.
^Again, they never stated anything special about the january patch for pvp. We can QQ after february if that one doesn’t deliver.
Butch I appreciate you trying to be a white knight for ANet (based off your resent posts) but if you stifle feedback or people questioning the devs than you are doing more harm than good.
Well I’m all for feedback and such. But I’m just stating the fact that for the past 2-3 months there has been multiple threads each week about the fact that they’re not releasing things and such. While I agree that things should have been implemented in release or as soon as possible we can’t change the way how they work and the fact they said their (very soft) deadlines to us, which is febr and march.
Based on the facts: We have to wait for february for the first big patch with a big pvp chunk. If that doesn’t deliver then we can start questioning their priorities again.
I’m not a white knight I’m just defending them until febr/march. That’s what they said and that’s what they promised to contain major pvp updates. For the rest I try to give constructive feedback (imo) which everyone should do.
Again the problem is the amount of silence on the pvp field for the last few months. That silence actually hypes the upcoming patches. So I’m afraid there’ll be a few people dissapointed anyway in february (could be me aswell :p).
^ But minipets aren’t pve nor pvp. I want my pets! :p
And my other characters need those dyes too.
And I mean it can be incentive to get more people into pvp. I don’t see why that is bad. They can easily complete the daily in hotjoin.
Bit harsh there imo. The map definetly needs tweaking ‘cus there’s an imbalance between sidepoints and such.
I do like the map and it’s overall design. It is true that it promotes the more mobile classes but they can balance around that a bit more. If they do that, change the design a little bit and such then it’s a very fun map. In my opinion atleast.
And yes if they plan on adding the 1vs1 structure they should disable character swapping which would spice things up anyway and give a random map.
What do people want?
In the past (first few months) we’ve seen the outrage of having no goals/no endgame. They’re adding stuff while trying to stick to their philosophy.
Would it be more fun if you buy the game and max level, max gear and a legendary by the end of week 1? Would that really be more fun?
GW2 is testing the grounds. And clearly people need progression and goals. Fun on it’s own is not enough.
And they contain unid dyes too, no? That’s another thing pvp players like too. I don’t see the reason why they didn’t add laurels to pvp-side.
^Again, they never stated anything special about the january patch for pvp. We can QQ after february if that one doesn’t deliver.
Well, yesterday was an example of them listening. They fixed the ticket bug and reduced it within the hour. :p
Anyway, I think it’s pretty fair. They need the prices at this hight otherwise people would still be swapping servers to frequently. They give you a lot of options too. Compared to most other games this is a fair price.
They are B2P and need to make money. I rather have them make money of this feature than adding pay 2 win stuff.
They might do a promo some time where transferring is cheaper in the future.
Finally, you seem to have developed this really frustrating habit where you come up with an idea that sounds like it will work well once all the pieces are in place, but then you deliver the pieces in stages, usually presenting the really annoying parts first and then holding back the mechanics that will make said parts less annoying for later. Such is the case with your plan to allow players to pick which daily tasks to participate in. I think introducing your changes in daily achievements before that functionality was ready was a mistake. Give players the whole idea (as it was presented) at the same time, not in pieces that are just going to leave them frustrated.
They’re gonna add the new system as you have said yourself. With some luck we’ll get it in febr/march.
I want those mini pets. :p They don’t mean anything for pve nor pvp players, it’s just fluff. But I still want it :p.
^ Pvp is getting attention in febr/march. They’ve been saying that since december.
This was a small patch pvp-wise. But they fixed some bugs so that’s a good thing. And they’re testing stuff out. (WTB future plans with current paid system)
I agree I want some laurels too. As I like doing my dailies/monthlies pvp wise. And you never know i wanna do some pve.
Winner stays in system both in paid and free (both 1vs1 teams).
Paid= Team queue
Free= Solo/duo queue
A paid win should give a little more then 1 ticket. Maybe 2 tickets or a ticket+some gems. This way people who don’t win that frequently still get some tickets overall from their wins. This way they aren’t forced to do solo/duo queue freez.
Give exponential rewards as in RA in gw1. Winner stays in and gets better reward on his next win (2qp+some more gems) and so on. Cap the max possible wins. (4 maps, so cap it at 4 rounds).
Matchmaking based on a rating. Second round should try to match you to other “equal rated teams on their second match”, if it doesn’t find any then it can try and match you too “first round equal rated teams”.
Imo:
Stick to the 1vs1 team rounds.
Add matchmaking/rating.
Winner stays in maybe? Dunno, something like that.
More rewards (mini’s, tonics, etc) in chests.
Glory distribution change to ‘learn’ the right mentality in hotjoin. Also reward bunkers, roamers and the like for their playstyle.
More tickets or gems? Repeatedly losing hurts your ticket supply.
I’d say gems as that way we have a way to get gold too.
Moar titles.
That’s it for now. Loving dem instant popz.
edit: Ye, that AT thing would be a great replacement. Trashing paid and free entirely and replacing with the current system wouldn’t be perfect. Instead having the current implementation and adding automated tournaments with bigger entry costs and rewards would satisfy a lot of people (i think).
Edit2: Loving the new map in tpvp. Though the sidepoints are pretty imbalanced.

We knew january was going to be small. Just a "lill’ outrage for the tickets thing. :p That got fixed.
Now let’s hope they did this week with a reason as in testing it for implementation in the future (with the needed tweaks and stuff ofc).
I dont think there’ll be 16 teams needed. They now the population problems with paids.
I think they’re testing the system and probably will use this in the future together with a matchmaking system.
I like it atm due to the fast popping queues.
But it’s not perfect tho. Need matchmaking for fairer matches and maybe a chance to get more tickets back or some gems.
Thank you! Weird though that it wasn’t like this in the first place.
Anyway, much better this way.
this will be a bug. No chance it is not. I would actually lose faith if it isn’t a bug………
Anet, please pop in and ease our minds.
This can’t be right. It just can’t be. They know this would cause an outrage. This is a bug. If it’s not… People won’t touch paids this week and will be kitten off.
^I was with you on that one with 500-500. :p
And fix the glory distribution. This creates a certain mentality that carries over from hotjoin to free tpvp.
Sorry but downed state adds choice/strategy to the game. It has given many comeback chances in fights and exciting moments.
I don’t say it’s evenly balanced. But saying it has to be removed is a bit harsh.
This game is built around downed state.
It would create boring gameplay and would cause a lot of crying by lot’s of classes who die easily.
Merge free and paid into one and have a proper rating and matchmaking system. Do 1 vs 1 (teams) so we don’t need the 8 teams to start one. Add daily and monthly AT’s. Give us solo/duo and premade queue. Accumulate the individual rating into a team rating to match the teams evenly.
For the people crying for a CTF mode: Make it as a secondary objective in conquest style.
Change the glory distribution so people start caring about a win in hotjoin. This is were people start so it’s good to learn them the ‘right’ mentality.
Give us better rewards and more fun rewards (minis, tonics, etc.). Let us do something with our glory. Gief moar titles!
About solo queue. Give people the possibility to add roles to a roster. This way they don’t always get funky team comps and have a better chance.
Throw some money at a tournament as things are getting better.
After all that you can add a gamemode for all the people crying about that.
Downed state adds strategy and choices. I like it and the game would suffer more without downed state imo.
You dislike conquest? But the reasons you stated aren’t conquest specific. Only the first one is.
I don’t know what you mean with progress in the game. Do you mean like in MOBA’s?
Balancing is being worked on and that is an ongoing thing.
Downed state won’t leave. Try and see the beauty of it. It adds to the strategy part. Again some downed skills can be balanced better.
Matchmaking is coming.
Uncontrolled chaos is 8vs8 specific and in 5vs5 it tends to dissapear the longer you play, the better you know the different animations, etc.
A new game mode might come, but that’ll take a while. Meanwhile they can add new maps with some nice complex secondary objectives.
