I think you missed the massive pet leash range nerf.
I did but in the patch notes it’s listed as “Pet leash range increased to 2000 units” when it should be decrease. But I’m gonna get right on adding it in.
Yes i remember reading those patch notes indeed. Increased to 2000, haha.

I think i speak for all Piken when i say that i learned my lesson in week 5. It was a chastening that made me realise the error of my ways, and i will now make sure i never interfere again with the righteous wrath of SFR in the quest for the deserved glory they’ve been unfairly denied for so long.
Please SFR, accept these humble apologies, and please don’t make us lose a matchup again. I now realise how sad it made you to lose. I know, because i felt the same after the lesson week 5 rightfully taught me. I was so sad i didn’t even finish the cookies mom brought me that evening, and barely touched my milk before bed. I don’t wish that on anyone else, and you lest of all.
Please please please will you forgive?

The model for that one (wvw medium set) looks great in brown tones on a charr, for a pretty cool old west look (disabling the fugly shoulders though). My charr engie is sporting it, and with a rifle in hand it looks epic.
Didn’t really find many other good uses for it, though the hat is nice and could be used with other sets i guess. Not convinced the fire particles make that much of a change.

Vizunah Square. The server has been ruling the EU top tier since the game started. They’ve been beaten at times by a number of servers but have come back every single time to win again.
I’m convinced success in T1 is/was (seasons, no more ‘tier’, all that) achievable for a good few servers with enough motivation, but such consistent success over time is incredible. People naturally get bored of the game, tired of running night shifts, etc. Somehow, Vizunah managed to overcome that.
There may be comparable servers in the US zone, but in EU they’re in a different category.

Agreed if only because i found myself going out of my way to complete some dumb achievements for a good while. DPSing gates when other people with mastery are better at it, doing JPs for no other reason than having them done, tagging every camp/tower/keep in sight not to miss out when/if it flips. Not even talking about the ruins circling cap trains… Fancy scouting/defending/upgrading for a change of pace? Sure, and in addition to less lootbags/xp/karma you can add no meta achievement too. Yawn.
Apart from the stupid achievement filter deciding whether you contributed enough or not and increasing queues exponentially for the first 2/3 weeks, i fail to see what the league/season system has brought to the table.

1. Ascended gear. Now with added grind because i heard you liked grind. Made even worse by…
2. Gear-bound stats. Want to experiment with a different set of stats? Get a brand new set of gear. With exotics, it was already vault-space-breaking to play with multiple sets. With ascended gear, it’s now grind-tastic too. Same goes with the runes. New set of runes? Lose the old ones or go for a new set… Why couldn’t the gear keep track of all the runes ever added to it and allow to pick from any of them? As is, you just don’t bother…
3. Very poor wardrobe options. Which is a pity because the dye system is great. No wardrobe to store ‘unlocked’ skins for reuse, and shoddy state of town clothes.
4. Stats rewards in a pvp mode (wvw) slowly ensuring new players start at an even bigger disadvantage. In the long term, that’s just making sure the new players wonder “why bother?” and leave to do something else.

And as Jon Peters hasn’t posted here for the past 17 days I would assume we have been dumped again.
They only had a short time reserved for discussing the new patch notes. Noone got dumped. He talked about all the classes, not just the Ranger. Jon did say it was a successful experiment, so maybe it will happen again.
Just don’t expect any other changes for the 10th of December since none have been confirmed for the Ranger. It’s not that odd since we almost only had buffs. We only really had Natural Vigor to complain about. I don’t think anyone even bothered to complain about the nerf to spirit actives.
I do hope they picked up on some suggestions for the next patch over.
Actually we did kind of get dumped. His last post was on how he had an interesting idea to address sword rooting and would fiddle with it when he got to the office and then nothing. we have no idea if his idea worked at all or even what he came up with which is rather unsettling since the current sword is working as intended for the most part.
Every single one of the profession pages had a topic from the devs addressing them, and every single one got “dumped” around the same time frame.
It isn’t something specific to the ranger class, and there is a point in time from the devs perspective that responding to a thread isn’t helping any more because there just isn’t anything else to say.
Not that I think the patch is going to be amazing or anything (hahaha I’m actually chuckling in real life. good ranger patch, that’s a real knee slapper).
No I get that. My point was that he said he had an idea that he would test out while in the middle of a back and forth dialogue and then just dropped off that map. I can understand if they used up all their allotted forum time but a little one sentence post on whether his idea panned out or not would have been nice.
Pretty sure there’s a post by him saying that the idea didn’t work out. I’m sure i read that.

It might not be effecient or even effective or even useful or reliable, but I like the playstyle so I play it. However, I also understand that guilds don’t want any Rangers. Guardians and Warriors are very reliable contributors.
Oh there’s no denying it’s fun. And as i said, it’s a great way to tag for lootbags too.

I think the power of 1500+ range Piercing Arrows is dearly underestimated in WvW.
Piercing arrows get reflected, rarely hit 5 people, don’t blast combo fields, and the shooter isn’t an additional body to mitigate the 5-targets-max aoe that hits the melee ball. If anything, it is vastly overestimated.
1500+ range Piercing Arrows are good for the one wielding the bow (until he gets noticed by a thief pack) to tag a good few people while staying mostly out of harm’s way. But it’s a net loss to the team compared to a melee contribution imho.

Personally, despite the profusion of new skins, i ended up going back to the AC weapons. The weapons themselves have a clean functional design, and the night time particle effect is one of my favourites in game.
They also make a great reminder if using day/night dependent food/sigils like http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Sigil_of_the_Night. When the sword stops glowing, switch to the daytime one. When the off-hand starts glowing again, switch back to the night sword.

Swoop is a pretty good escape mechanism already imho. The trouble it has isn’t a lack of evade, it’s its inherent weakening/nullyfying through cripple/chilled/immob. If the aim is to make it a better getting out skill, clearing these conditions is what should be looked at, not a channeled evade that will still leave you on the same spot as the big red circle.

When you’re facing a stronger server that is focusing on the 3rd, you can either insist on taking them on, be crushed, and lose stuff from the relieved 3rd server in the matchup. Or you can take the easy points where you can, by hitting the 3rd server with its more than often paper towers. In either case, you’re not going to finish first, but depending on which strategy you adopt, you’ll finish last or second.
Sure there’ll be whinging involved by the 3rd server, but at the end of the day you’re fighting your own battles, not theirs. First week had Piken in that predicament, and with nothing personal, Vizunah was just way harder. This week Riverside is in that place, and again, there’s no contest between SFR and Piken. I can’t see why Riverside would insist on finishing last just to please Piken egos. With SFR in the matchup, they were never going to win the matchup. They’ll finish second which is the best they could have achieved. Good on them.
Cheers to the SFR crowd though. Until the leagues, i was mightily kitten ed off by the Piken persecution complex (“OMG they iz double teaming us”). Every. single. week. I feel better seeing that it’s not much better elsewhere.

If the opposition’s dumb enough to stay in the roots for 7s, you probably didn’t need to pop an elite to win the fight…
they have no other option when all their stunn breaker and condition removals are on cd
press 1 until vines break……
As great of a suggestion as that is… If you aren’t using a Melee weapon you’re not even going to be able to hurt the roots…
change to a melee weapon???use a teleport/aoe attack/roll…
if you know how to deal with it, entangle is a bad elite,
If you were an intelligent player you would catch them while their teleport/condi cleanse is on CD and after they weapon swap to ranged… Not to mention you can’t roll while immobilized….
dude, you CAN roll with entangle, you have videos of people walking out from entangle, and if you use stealth entangle dissapear,a warrior can destroy entangle with bow#3 and a ranger with longbow#5, ofc, you can kill noobs with this supermegaElite.
You can not roll while immobilized, and I tend to drop a muddy terrain ontop of people while the entangle is up to ensure they’re never escaping my roots by walking out, and it gives a cover condition….
You can kill noobs without even popping an ulti, just because you have no idea when to use entangle doesn’t mean it’s a bad elite, it still forces CDs or at least lasts as a ~3s immobilize.
Plenty of people seem to indeed. When an elite skill pretty much requires an additional utility slot to do its job, it says a lot about the skill itself imho.
Entangle isn’t a bad skill, but i don’t think it’s quite up there with what an elite slot should provide.

Yes, i didn’t expect my boon duration to apply. The tooltips do apply it though, so they should be fixed to avoid any confusion.
But what grates me is every time i get 0s Fury with F2 still going on cooldown. This one is really irritating. I get better Fury uptime from the Moa taking a beating (Beastmaster’s Bond) than from its own F2 skill for crying out loud!

Even then. Does it change anything? Considering you apply 1.4s every 1s, as long as immob stacks up to twice, you’re in perma-immobilize mode. Only thing that changes is the final immobilize time left once the roots stop pulsing, but that means you had 20s free reign already…

Hello there,
I never played much with boon duration until recently, and decided to go all-in at the weekend with a traveler/water/monk rune combo for +45% boon duration, as well as the Nature 30 for a total of +75%. With that setup, Nature’s Voice spam, together with Call of the Wild and Healing Spring make for a fairly nice stacking of regen/swiftness, and some pretty fury uptime. Also, lightning reflexes provides 17s of vigor, and dodges provide 3s of protection each time, yay.
Anyhow, that wasn’t much the topic. The thing is, i was trying to get more boons through pets. First port of call was increasing the fury uptime, and thought i’d use a Red Moa. First surprise: the F2 tooltip (erroneously?) reports that my personal boon duration applies, pretending that the angry bird’s F2 is going to give me over 26s of Fury. Needless to say, that’s not the case, more like 14s. Bugged tooltip i guess? Same goes with the other boon-giving pets: blue moa reports 7s of protection but gives 4s, and jungle stalker doesn’t provide the 26s of Might it pretends.
Second, what’s up with the Red Moa screech? I swear once every 2/3 attempts, it goes on cooldown without any Fury being given. It’s not range, i made some attempts with the Moa by me, and it’s not summoning sickness, i made repeat attempts with the Moa with me for a while. Any heavy Moa user here that knows what’s going on and if there’s any trick to actually getting it to work?

immobilize is a cc condition. you can remove it.
can’t you just wait for the stack to build and then cleanse it in one shot using condition removal ?
In a zerg fight, especially when you’re condi bombed by necros, it seems like immobilized is the last condition to be cleansed.
Immobilized shouldn’t be able to be stacked, it should be FCFS, you only need to deal with the first immobilized while negate the others that are used on you when the first one is still active. You can still chain immobilized by timing your skill(more skill required) so a group can chain immobilized a person, instead of right now you can spam it like a kittening noob and it’ll work even better with no skill required(Anet love to caters to their casual players).
What if the person have dogged march+melandru+lemongrass thus making immobilized to be useless? What I’ve stated on my OP will negate those combination by making immobilized to be unaffected by these -condition duration so you won’t get an immobilized skill that only lasted 0.5 sec.
I ran into a 5 man with 2 thieves, mes necro and war, all specced up to chain immob, i was on a my support guard with 3 double condi removes and a triple condi remove, sigil of purity…. just try and guess how effin far I ran.

I’ve got Applied Fortitude, and i do think it’s a stupid idea indeed. Food at least is cheap and available to any new player. That 250 vitality isn’t available until they sunk in hundreds of hours. Segregating the new players on stats when they already come at a disadvantage in experience is a very very poor idea. Sadly, that’s part of Anet’s philosophy turnaround, so i guess it’s here to stay…
By comparison, the siege/supply masteries are nice imho. They come with plenty of improvements on the cheap with just a few points, are more situational, and don’t “scale”: if 2 rams have been dropped, 2 players with the mastery is all you need, there’s no advantage gained for having 50 people with it.

ppt for overflow? lal… let more populated servers to win no matter what?
Not for overflow. For a 5th map, which would happen to be this one, and which one would have to queue for, just like the others. Doesn’t change anything to infinite copies of this map being used as non-scoring overflow.
Heck, if a 5th map really makes people that angry, just swap the Borderlands map with this one every other week.
the more populated server will play with one other full map against the less populated servers 10-20 men in the overflow. no thx.
less populated servers often gathering on one map what makes queu on one map and wastelands on others. this will make an overflow map and let the other server to absolutly dominate.
one more scenario: every map is full from every side. its good its make a balanced game. but if overflows open the most populated will win.
As i wrote above, if a 5th map makes too many people angry, why not have a regular rotation of old borderlands and edge of the mists?

I can get their thought process . In every SOTG we have players of other classes complaining about ranger builds , first it was the beastmaster now its the spiritmaster . Note that these players are tools to boot . Hence the predicament we are in

Beautiful map. And finally an overflow.
What i wonder is why you don’t add a copy of it to the real scoring world as a 4th map. I’m thrilled that we’re getting a lovely looking map to explore and that we’ll have a non-scoring overflow to wait in, but… why isn’t there a single scoring version of it?
It’s like if borderlands were the only playing map and EB was an infinite non-scoring overflow.

While sword 2 doesn’t provide much if anything as a simple distance builder, Monarch’s leap is a very nice long jump that will get you across decent chasms. It’ll get you across the gap south of Durios for example, from one wall to the 90 degrees oriented next wall in a keep, etc.
If you get familiar with the maps, there’s often a spot nearbyish which you can use to drop pursuers with Monarch’s Leap.
Just keep in ming that if you have an enemy targeted, Hornet Sting will always make you jump away from it, no matter what your original facing. Also, if you didn’t have a target and therefore jumped back, Monarch’s Leap is available long enough for you to run back to where you used Hornet Sting. So it’s possible to run to the edge of the cliff, hit 2, run to it again and hit 2 to leap over it.

Another thing where ranger loose DPS vs other classes is the Runes,Sigils,Foods and Nourishments. Before you ask it why? Its easy we not buffed fully with this stuffs. We got Power scale decrase on skills because of pets but if we use this items to boost up the Ranger pet earn 0% boost.
That’s a good one. How about applying our consumables buffs to the pet? (food/oil)
Or for that matter, other buffs like the wvw Guard Defense buff, etc. All these buffs only have slightly above half the effect on ranger than what they give to other classes.
Don’t forget ascended gear in general. We get less benefit from weapons/armors/accessories compared to other classes.
Indeed, but this one is more difficult to reflect on the pet i guess, since the pet has its own “gear” stats through the points invested in the Beastmaster line. I don’t understand why pet stats were not increased on the day ascended weapons were introduced but there you go…
Consumables on the other hand are independent of gear and should really sit on top of that, like for the ranger. It would make the pet feel a bit more integral too, since one would start select food also in consideration of the pet needs.

I just can’t understand the justification to the constant stream of nerfs to the ranger, the game’s balance is quickly becoming a joke : / The Dev team simply can’t be listening or playing a ranger in wvw/pve
According to the one dev talking to us in the other thread, we have “great builds” in every game mode. Not viable builds, not half-decent builds, great builds!

Not convinced by evade on Swoop. First, at what cost would it come? Increased cooldown? I’d rather keep swoop as is.
Then, the times when Swoop fails me in a defensive context, it’s not because it didn’t evade, it’s because it didn’t get me far enough because of a cripple or immobilize. In those cases, evade wouldn’t help. Sure, 1s of no damage, but after that, i’m still in the same spot of fiery death.
If you want to improve the defensive side of swoop, make it break cripple/immobilize (or convert them into swiftness, haha), or apply 1-3s of stability.
It would come at no cost to Swoop, it would come at the cost of updating the chain. Also the added benefit that you aren’t taking into account as this skill could now be part of your rotation and used when you see a big attack incoming to avoid it.
Losing the evade from the chain isn’t a good tradeoff imho. GS is maybe our only option to join a melee train in wvw, and that evade is a big part of that.
On-demand evade is handy, but we’ve got dodges for that as well as the skill 4 block. In regards to the rotation, i can’t imagine it isn’t already there for most people thanks to the Leap Finisher (unless it’s saved for a hurried escape).
How about that 1-3s of stability on Swoop? There’s precious few stability on the ranger, this may be a lovely place to sprinkle some. That would fit nicely with the defensive nature of the ranger GS as well as address Swoop’s biggest issue imho. Also, wouldn’t the evade simply make it a forward-going Lightning Reflexes? :p

The Evade on the Auto Attack is one of the reasons the weapon is pretty much are only weapon useful for Large Fights in World vs World.
Swoop Doesn’t need an evade, Its there for 2 purposes, Getting me to the Fight, and Getting me away from the Fight… an Evade will not help that..
This. You would be nerfing survivability of rangers by removing evade on GS#1. Evade on swoop – what for? I don’t need it, not sure anyone ever asked for it. It would not compensate loosing evade on #1.
This combined with the proposed nerf to Natural vigor seems to point, imho, that you’re trying to lower survivability of this class.
Not to mention that if evade on Swoop was invoked as an excuse to increase the cooldown, here goes wvw mobility.

Charrs totally look the business in a brown duster, old west style. That said, that’s also because my charr engie sports a rifle.
Look wise, i like both. Lore wise, no issue either. Norns have the hunting thing at the heart of their culture, but Charrs have lots of warbeast taming going on (you’ll find events related to it in Ascalon). I’d see the Charr ranger approach more in a ‘mastering nature’ than the more druidish ‘becoming one with nature’.
Racial skills wise, charr skills are pretty much all underwhelming, though charzooka is fun (and a rare way to get your ranger to wield a gun), and Warband Support is fun in a “how many pets at once can i have?” way (1 hyena summoning another, 1 mini, 3 spirits, two warband charrs = 8 things moving around you to strain the eyes of the opposition).
Norn racials are poorish, with the exception of some elites that can have some circumstantial use: wolf form has good healing, leopard form has stealth, bear form has zillions HP and bear/leopard forms have an epic sprint to contest a cap or run away. I’d give advantage to norn on that point.

Wouldn’t it be better if it was just an instant cast shout that just stealthed your pet and gave it protection. That way you could instantly react if your pet was about to take some serious damage.
Most definitely, since it wouldn’t reset the pet combat status all the time (engage, no disengage and guard, now reengage, wait guard again, ok reengage).
Save the Bell Choir activity!
It stealths up your pet on the area you targeted, gives it protection, and the pet will stay there until a hostile passes close enough to that spot, in which case it will engage before going back to the spot. Basically, the pet will ‘guard’ that spot rather than follow you around. With the new wonderful pet leash range of course, you still have to stay close.
