Did anyone read my post? The leash range IE how far your pet can go away from you, was nerfed, how far we can send our pet via targeting them and hitting F1 has been INCREASED overall it’s a nerf, but now we can send our pet further by hitting F1 instead of them just sitting at our side going “Lawlz no”.
I read your post indeed, and it puzzles me because i have the opposite experience. I used to F1 my pet to distant siege all the time. Now i’m getting the pet too far, yadda yadda yadda message all the time. Again, this is F1, not the pet despawn at range which also gets me depressed.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
I like it, it’s not perfect, but comes in very handily sometimes. There’s a few tricks around it to help too:
- pet commands still work when downed, so hitting F4 if you had it available will give you a fresh 100%HP pet if you do it just before hitting 3.
- if you prepared for it and had the Wolf on swap, then F4+F2 will call the wolf to your side (with 100%HP) and cast the AoE fear, getting all the baddies away from you. Save your downed 2 for when they come back and interrupt the stomp as late as possible. By now, downed 3 should be available.
In addition to that, and so not directly linked to Lick Wounds, remember you also have F1/F2 available to send your pet at something low on HP. Good way to get a rally off an environmental creature if you can survive through one interrupted stomp, or to down your attacker if he is low on HP. And from there (both downed), i’d give the ranger as the winner… thanks to Lick Wounds.

Were they trade-able, certainly many of you who do not like the look of them and have gotten them could be making some gold off of people like me who would like at least one but can’t seem to get the numbers to play in my favor.
Indeed. I’m in the same boat as the OP. Found a ticket while opening the latest random coffers, but don’t like the skins. Staff is not too bad, and maybe the shield, but that’s about it.
Would love to be able to exchange it for another set like fused, sell it on TP or gift it to a friend that likes them. As it, it’s just sitting wasted in my bank. A pity that such rare drops have no way to get to people who like them.

Yeah? Well, yo mama’s so fat she can cap SM from Overlook.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Same, i have a hard time believing there was an increase. I keep getting the “your pet is too far from its target” message. That’s for the F1. That said, this one is just a feeling. I feel that all these targets used to be in range.
The other aspect of the leash is obvious, with the pet dropping its target immediately when there’s a bit of distance.
Shortbow and pet damage, meh, don’t like it (obviously) but can survive. That leash really depresses me though, particularly with the feeling that all it has to do is *$"£& sPvP once again and they can’t be bothered to split skills.

Don’t blame Anet, blame the players. There was a system balancing servers before, doing its job, and the players called it ‘stale’ and ‘boring’.
Face it, players don’t want balance, they want to roflstomp every other week. This is precisely what this new system achieves.

Old thread now, but just thought i’d extend a big THANK YOU to ANet for the Marriner’s Horn. No idea whether this thread was part of the inspiration or not, but it doesn’t matter: we have a Vuvuzela to play music with!
Absolutely delighted with it. Usable in wvw to cheer up the troops, intimidate the opposition, celebrate victories, play ‘happy birthday’ to the guildies… Just wish it could be played while on the move, but ah.
Thanks to the Marriner’s Horn, i’m having a whale of a time!

U mad bro?
Bears are big, fuzzy, and can bite your head off. That’s three good reasons to have one as a pet.
I don’t care that their stats don’t reflect it. I mean, they’re friggin’ bears! Just think for a minute, you’re walking back home in an empty street. All of a sudden, some dude decides to jump out of an alley and mug you. What would you rather have at your side?
- a stupid flamingo?
- mama’s dog that you were taking out for his wee wee?
- a FRIGGING BEAR!
Pop signet of the wild, and there you go: proper-sized bear mauling the face of whoever stole his pot of honey. Or yours.
Plus, because of the ‘attitude’, the bear is epic. meta-wise. It’s the ranger x1000. Playing a ranger, you’re already a noob magnet, as every idiot and his dog will become blind to anything else after seeing you, going for the ‘easy kill’. As a ranger with a bear, you’re just entering another dimension of underestimation. Every. Single. Idiot. will come running all the way for you. They will even tell their friends. It’s so easy i feel like i’m haxing.
When i was young, my foes deleted their characters for having been pwned by a ranger.
Now, they delete the game and reformat their hard drive, cring all the way because they’ve been pwned by a ranger with a bear.
The Ranger class, can we fix it? YES WE BEAR!

Considering all that thread achieved was the fixing of only the bugs in our favour, i don’t think we’re going to miss it much. Guard+walls, search and rescue hard rez, pig swap, frost spirit affecting siege…
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Would love to see it back to what it was before too. They can’t scale walls anymore, they can’t rez people anymore, if they can’t hunt far away from us anymore, they have just turned into occasional additional dps.
Here’s hoping for a split and reversal of that range for pve/wvw.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
It was nerfed because sPvPers complained about it. It was too strong in their node-bunkering minigame, so it’s been nerfed for every game mode. Enjoy.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
SB nerf I could agree with that, SB on thief is 900 why isn’t ours 900.
Because it’s a class-based game and we’re not thieves? Apart from the name, what do these two have in common? The weapon name has no point whatsoever, it’s just a set of 5 skills which are unique to a class, not to a weapon type. For crying out loud…
Anyhow, i’m impatiently waiting your petitioning to reduce LB range to 1000. I mean, LB on warrior is 1000, why isn’t ours 1000?
Oh, warrior’s axe is melee range. We shouldn’t be able to throw ours either i guess.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
A handy one to know is that Drakes have a Blast Finisher in their attack skills (the ones you don’t control), and they like to use it early in a fight. So if you need it during a fight, swap pet to the drake, and it’ll use it almost immediately. With the healing spring water field, that’s a nice aoe healing that adds to the heal and regen. With a mesmer’s ethereal field, that’s chaos armour for the whole party, etc…
Save the Bell Choir activity!
I had some weirder stuff with that horn’s animation. Was fooling around with in while running a Guild Puzzle, and i may have been in town clothes, when something happened to either transform me or set me into combat.
It bugged.
The net result was me locked with the horn use, weapon switch not working, and no way to drop the horn. The horn was acting as a two-handed weapon too, being dropped on my back to carry while not in combat, and quickly wielded in hand while in combat, to allow me to play music at my foes. As badly as i can play though, it still didn’t damage their ears.
Even funnier was the behaviour of the horn while on my back when out of combat. If i pushed the keys to play it, my norn would put his right hand near his mouth like he was holding the horn, and blowing air into his fist, while the horn was still safely tucked on his back. The best bit of it though, is that the notes were still playing, and coming out of the horn on his back. X-D
Had to log out to character screen and relog back in to fix it.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
I’m a bit in the middle of the debate i guess. While yes, i do think there’s something that should be fixed so a dodge could interrupt the chain, i do not trust the dev/balance team to do it without breaking something else. Either adding a ridiculous delay in the middle, or changing the skills themselves, ending up with the chain no longer ‘sticking’ to the target.
It is tricky to use, but the way it sticks to its target is really really useful. I’d rather have it in the current bugged state you need to work around by yourself rather than see it destroyed by a ‘fix’.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Pet leash range increased to 2000 units.
Yeah, “increased” indeed. Bit of a laugh… Even the supposed 2000 don’t feel like it anyway. In wvw i now spend my time looking at “Your pet is too far away from its target” every time i try to do something useful with the pet other that “skirmish range DPS extension”.
No more scaling walls, no more rezzing, no more hunting independently at range… Everything unique about the specific class mechanic is slowly dropped until it becomes just a few more numbers in combat. Good for everyone that wants a Sniper class, sad for whoever liked the semi-independent companion.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
I have the opposite problem. I keep telling the pet to attack and i get “Your pet is not in range”. :p
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Be careful what you wish for…
Sword 1: fixed animation delay between attacks in the chain. The .5s delay between each attack will now allow for more time to dodge out of the chain.
Sword 2: leap range reduced by 25%.
Sword 3: reduced aftercast by 0.3s.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Very annoying indeed. Can live with the lower dps, but this leash range really restricts the pet use in wvw…
Save the Bell Choir activity!
I stopped investing the 5 points after quickness dropped from 100% to 50% personally. It just felt too slow to be worth it (apart from when running the BM line by itself obviously).

Just one: since the technology is there to split skills between game modes, why don’t the sPvP crowd get to enjoy its nerfs for itself?
I’m dead serious too. We are just not playing the same game. The whole 1v1 node bunker meta has no point in regards to random pve, dungeons or wvw. Balancing the skills for it has been and still is a predictable clusterkitten from update to update. It may even bad for the community feeling. Or am i alone in wanting to punch a sPvPer in the face after every ‘balance fix’?
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Yes, pets are getting nerfed, if the leaked information is true.
But why do you see it as a negative thing?
Because i like my pet. If i didn’t, i wouldn’t play the pet class. How stupid of me, eh?
the updated traits make it a non issue
Might stacks here and there * when traited * won’t replace a previously permanent amount of damage depending on zero traits.
I realise i’m a minority though, and that 99% of the ranger player base is there to play a sniper. Obviously, from such an angle, a pet nerf is a welcome argument to lobby for MOAR DPS NAOW!
Remains to be seen whether these notes are genuine or a funny hoax though.

So far i am having fun in WvW, we still manage to put up a fight from time to time. Yesterday we had some crazy rushes from PS on our keep in EB. We wiped, they Wiped, we wiped some more etc All in all it is a fun week in WvW eventhough PS is a bit out of our league
They have the people to fill up all maps at all times. They still do things like early morning golem rushes on EB with about 30 people when there is no real reason too,i see alot of people saying good things about piken but their kinda mweh imo. They do have some very organized guilds that really know how to play i agree with that, but other then that im not really impressed by their actions, more by their numbers at any given time.

That’s what happens when people complain about “boring, stale matchups”. Every time the ratings do their work and find balance, it has to be wrecked. Last time was free transfers, now it’s random roflstomping of lower tiers.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Haven’t unlocked puzzles yet. They are timed too? Sigh. Was hoping we’d get to enjoy cracking them out but if it’s a time rush, meh.

To be honest, i do think that they released “more than an expansion’s worth of content”. The only downside to that is that sadly, most of it is now gone. All the halloween/christmas/easter stuff has gone, with their stories, instances, jumping puzzles, pvp minigames… Same thing is now happening to the living story now.
There’s plenty of nice content that has been added since launch, but looking at the game now, well, none of it is accessible anymore, so all that’s left is… one new area…
I really think the limited availability content thingie has been overdone.

I don’t want to completely ruin the surprise but you should hear something big from us in the coming weeks about this very topic.
You forgot to tell them to ask again next month to hear an even more obscure answer.
D’oh! You caught me there. Let me spruce it up some. In the coming weeks, nay months, you’ll see many changes to WvW. We should have something to announce regarding the matchmaking in the coming weeks. If you aren’t happy with those changes, I’ll be more surprised than the Imperial Japanese Army was by Marshal Georgy Zhukov at the battle of Nomonhan. I think that fits the criteria. Sort of.
And as we all know, they wouldn’t have been caught surprised had they carried Vuvuzelas…

I wasn’t talking about you in particular. I should have said "because they are so incredibly bad kitten that they don’t care that they draw down fire upon themselves for exposing their position.
My apologies for the misunderstanding.
This indeed is part of the ‘why’. Just like some players revel in stealth and hiding, for many others, pride, challenge or intimidation have always been an important part of PvP enjoyment.
But let’s also not underestimate the power of deception: you may deliberately want to attract the attention of the enemy to you through the medium of sound in order to distract him away from where the real strength of your server’s forces are lying low!
And as Sun Tzu himself once wrote:
“All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.”
Riddle me this: when i’m far away and want the enemy to believe i’m near, do i reach for my sword or for my Vuvuzela?
Save the Bell Choir activity!
did you know that it was initially thought to ban the vuvuzela from 2010 due to that it may cause disrubtion to the players
That is a good point indeed. Maybe the Vuvuzela trap could also put a ‘Deafened’ debuff that disables Shout skills for 30s? It would be both lore-fitting and tactically useful!

In the interest of festive RP events as well as WvWvW raid intimidation, i believe it would be of great interest to introduce Vuvuzelas as a different Warhorn model, together with it’s deliciously unique and beautiful sound effects.
For reference, Vuvuzelas are South African horns made popular worldwide by the 2010 football world cup : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vuvuzela
The addition of alternative Vuvuzela skins in the gem store for various colour themes would be appreciated too, and provide a revenue model to compensate for the development time needed to implement the 3d model and record the high quality sound required to accurately provide the “Vuvuzela experience”.
Can anyone imagine anything more intimidating than a Vuvuzela-using raid about to charge down the gate you’re desperately trying to defend? I don’t think so. As an example, you can browse this very thread with added Vuvuzelas by clicking here: http://vuvuzela-time.co.uk/forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/game/suggestions/Vuvuzela-warhorn/first#post2038159
Looking forward too, one could envision Vuvuzela traps for WvWvW. Stepping onto it would sound a Vuvuzela and pop an orange Vuvuzela icon on the map.
99.97% of the players polled about this important suggestion have already agreed with me that it would be a critical addition to the gameplay.
Many thanks in advance for considering this addition as soon as development time allows,

Rough beginner pet stuff:
- if you use drakes, drop fields early in the fight: drakes have a Blast Finisher skill that they like to use early. If the fight’s going to last a bit, make sure you brought the Healing Spring for AoE heals when the drake blasts again, or pet swap to the second drake to get the usual early blast. Initial heal on Healing Spring also heals your pet even if he’s not in range.
- canines have a knockdown in their attacks, which is very handy 1v1. The Hyena can also F2-summon another hyena, which also has knockdowns. Fun fun fun.
- Jaguar can stealth on F2 and will crit on his attack from stealth. That’s your remote controlled thief there.
- if you wvw, know that the pet is a full blown level 80 pet no matter your level (of course, at lower levels, you still can’t max up the BM trait line). Abuse your jaguar.
- pet commands (F1-4 keys) work while downed. The wolf has AoE fear on F2. Make sure you’re on your other pet when you go down, and when downed, hit pet swap then F2 to fear out whoever was about to stomp you and buy a few precious seconds to that downed 3 skill.
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Haven’t played with it in ages, does it still reset on pet swap and entering/exiting water?
If so, well… Considering how pet swap is a huge part of the ranger play, it doesn’t strike me as a great tradeoff, apart from maybe maxing up a jaguar for stealth ganking.
Like the conditions transfer to the pet, it’s one of those traits that comes at an extra cost.

…speaking of which… how many stacks of might would the pet need to deal equal damage they get from Sic’ em?
As in – Sic’ em = X stacks of might
Not counting the condition damage!
:)
Not going through the actual numbers, but the answer will be a table depending on how many points you have invested in BM. Might is a flat increase in Power/Cond.Dmg, when Sic’em is +40% of the pet’s current damage. So the more points invested in BM, the higher the pet stats in the first place, and the more damage that +40% is, while each might stack will always give the same flat increase.
At least, that’s how it feels to me.

Well, i’m not generally doing this, but you could do worse than moving to <INSERT SERVER NAME HERE>.
We have a healthy, friendly and very skilled community, very little queues in your time-zone, and you would be welcome with lots of <GOLD/PRESENTS/KISSES>. Our community is widely acknowledged as one of the best in <EU/NA/TEH INTERNETZ> and all our opponents agree that they wish they were us. We fight our opposition using our <TEAMWORK/COORDINATION/MAD SKILLZ> even though all they can do in return is <ZERG/BLOB>. We never do that because we’re special and, dare i say, pretty unique in the entire GW2 server ecosystem. If we only ever lose a matchup, it’s because of such <UNFAIR TACTICS/CHEATS> as <SPEEDHAX/PVDOOR>. We are also home to <INSERT RANDOM GUILD TAGS YOUR MAN NEVER HEARD OF> whose <BROTHER-IN-ARMS/BFF/SIDEKICK> you would have the chance to become.
Now i hope you find a suitable home, and wouldn’t want to feel pushy, so feel free to go wherever suits your guild best. In my opinion, that would just happen to be <INSERT SERVER NAME HERE>.

With the new 15s cooldown (12s if traited), that means you get to stealth your pet and give it 10s of protection avery 15s/12s. That’s a lot of survivability and surprise. Not sure how much of a difference it’ll make in dungeons seeing the amount of one-shotting going on, but in wvw (roaming) and spvp, it’s a big buff for beastmaster builds. That jaguar can pretty much spam stealth now.
