Please read the post before answering to it. I did clarify that if I play a premade it is fine since I will run with a team composition based against conditions (see here elementalist/support guard/support warrior/necros and add in a few power damage dealer). Team pvp and solo Q is 2 different beast. Insolo Q if you wanna win, your build diversity is affected greatly since condition needs to be hard countered if you want to ensure not raging at aoe condition fest (and as I said, sometimes even if you roll support, you alone is often not enough to keep the condition spreading around in check, and that is while playing one of the most boring bunker support build… sorry for those who loves those build but you are the true MVP).

It is not a question of winning/losing. It is the fact that most class are forced into a specific build (be it burning build or mass cleanse build in a solo Q pvp).

Thieves -> Non-existent or closely
Rangers -> Condi ranger
Mesmer -> There are some, glad they can still play shatter mesmer, be it condi or power.
Warrior -> Support warrior
Guardian -> Support Guardian or burn guard
Engineer -> Burn engineer
Necromancer -> Currently in a sweet spot due to condition meta.
Elementalist -> Meta did not change how they are played, but still mainly one build can be seen and it’s DD/cele ele.

I’d rather have a win/loss ratio much worst. Let’s be honest if you duo Q and you and your friend play support/support or support/burn you just got yourself a solid starting team and will most likely win this pugs vs pugs battle. As for solo Q, odds are still in your favor if you get to play a support build. Yet, where is build diversity? Nowhere to be seen…As a Warrior main I hate this meta. It got old really fast…

The server should gauage a player’s ping and if it is terrible at the time they que, it shouldn’t allow that player to que.

But what’s terrible ping. You start talking intercontinental latency & your around 300 – 600 msec sometimes.

I’ve played pvp with 5k ping before. gets you called a hacker lol.

Our team ran five burn guards for awhile today as a joke.
They don’t even regularly play guardians.
We won every match.

hotjoin / low mmr doesn’t count. you have to stop coming up with ideas, conclusions and judgements based on low level play.

Yeah and high level premade vs premade makes up like 1% of all PvP games and the rest are screwed over by not having their personal support shout bunker butt slave.

no wonder you dont have cool guys like me clearing your condis.

Vuln on symbol is in the zeal line. Virtues are mandatory for faster VoJ procs and aoe VoJ (also CD reduction on PF). Valor is mandatory for the sustain and CD reductions across the board. Radiance gives better burn damage than zeal. If you’re running virtues/zeal/radiance, you have 0 sustain. There is absolutely no way you know what you’re talking about. Please stop, this is getting painful.

Sure thing but I think Virtues/Zeal/Radiance is best, Guardians have enough base sustain with Carrion and a 2nd mediation is kitten.

you need valour for monks focus, or else medis don’t heal. smh that second medi you mention is in valour too.

It saddens me to see so many post from “thief” players who do not even understand what their professional mechanic is. It is also sad to see the inaccurate claims from thief players stating you cannot stealth without initiative. Initiative is the professional mechanic, and you can stealth with runes+certain utility skills as well as certain utility and heal skills alone, using no initiative at all. My understanding is that stealth is intended to be a defencive mechanism, and it can and should be counterable. The abuse of this mechanic is what draws ire to it.

there is no parallel to what anti-stealth skills do to thief when compared to other profession’s defensive mechanics and their respective counters. stealth at this point is our only viable defensive option as we literally have no good out-of-stealth playstyles any more.

and i dont think anyone actually said any of the things you said they did, and you trying to “prove” these imaginary people otherwise only expands on how badly of a counter revealed skills are when they can entirely shutdown multiple utilities (nobody uses any stealth runes), a heal, and weapon skills.

feel like mesmers would understand that?

they have stealth elites & utilities just like theif. they rely on stealth for defense just like theif.

Mesmers do not have their condition purging, damage, and defense all tied to stealth.
Mesmers also have access to protection.

thief has access to protection too, and thief has defenses, damage, and condi clear outside of stealth too.

and anyway, its not like anyone is going to run the gyro anyway, or even any of engineers other reveals. because they all compete with far superior traits and skills.

Help with Hammer Skin

I’ve got myself the aetherized hammer since it’s really unique and most likely never to come back again. I also love the design <3 But you’ll probably not get it under 2000 gold anymore.

Mjolnir is ok imo, it’s a bit too much of a cliche to use a pure lightning hammer, don’t ya think? Yet it completly depends on your design of the char(acter)

I’m a born fashion diva and if you want some help with maybe other hammers or a design for your engi, just pm me ingame. Altough I wouldn’t waste too many transmutation charges now, since there will be new armor and weapon skins on release like … look at this ingame:

I agree w/ Xyonon on his take on Aetherized and unknown hammer.

Feel free to judge my vanity but I loved Mjolnir so much that I made an ele slot just so I could carry it around a few years ago.

I guess you are right that the ONLY race the unknown hammer will look good with are Charrs. It looks more like a 2H Battle axe than hammer.

rocket charge changes sound hopefully good. i would say sorry for the words of the other people in this thread, but it’s not like there weren’t multiple threads requesting to not get another set of useless AI. i mean, yeah they are being mean but the gyro design is really poor & it is exactly what we asked not to have. you should have expected this response if you had had any contact with the engineer community while developing scrapper.

What would make a good ELITE SHOUT?

I’ve been using shouts on my warrior in pvp for about a year and a half. there’s one thing the build really lacks when you go all shouts. you’re a tanky bunker but you can only safe-stomp in rampage. if you slot stab in a utility slot you lose a great traited shout. so it’s gotta have stab. it’s gotta let you stomp, it’s gotta be the final piece of the shout warrior puzzle.

im thinking

RELENTLESS
30 second cd
4stacks of stab for 7sec
5sec of protection

now you can stomp
now you can cover to the limit with stab

They wouldn’t do that. Firstly because warrior already has a lot of access to stabi and because it’s way too similar to “Stand your ground!”.

I would much rather see Warriors getting a new useful offensive shout. Something that would be useful to warriors and to their parties and does not yet exist. Unfortunately Guardians took the Quickness, but maybe Warriors could get some access to super speed. 3-4 seconds of super speed for example, along with next attack having 100% of being critical hit for you and 5 of your allies.

Think such a shout would work in all game modes, it would also probably bring melee pushes back to WvW, since they got rarer with stabi changes patch… And melee push is what Warriors are all about, right?

poor choice for a bunker build imo. wouldn’t save you from the wells in wvw anyhow.

hopefully DD brings s/d or something like it back. d/p doesn’t needs buffs imo but thief does suffer heavily in build diversity.

I’ve theory crafted some brutal DD builds for WvW, but i dont know how good they would be for pvp. it’s more roaming focused.

But a power build has much less options to specc into defensive traits to be effective, this is always ignored by anyone defending the momentary condi playstyle or do I miss something?

Condi Builds should be as weak as direct damage if soldier amulet is used and in order to buff it to the strength it has now, three offensive stat amulets sould be needed in my opinion.

for engineer you can run almost exactly the same build for condi and power. you have the same access to defenses for both builds. condi is actually more squishy imo, because rabid gives no vit while marauder does.

Berserker Doesn't Change how Warrior Plays

It does feel underwhelming.
Mostly because of the lack of baseline fast hands which stops a lot of potentially great and exciting builds from being viable. So the builds you have to play are really limited and lackluster. Only cool build I can think of is distracting strikes skull grinder.

I can also say from my engineer experience all scrapper has done is give us a true melee option. The play is still very similar to regular HGH just no rifle. The gyros are poor and outclassed so it’s only the hammer that you actually notice really. It just feels like engineer with a hammer.

Rifle does do bleeds. However carrion amulet also gives you power, so I get crits from rifle with intelligence sigil & I get burning from the FT & traits (and TK). It’s a hybrid build, usually does about equal conditions and power damage most matches.

Yeah, because 3 people get stomped at the same time all the time. And lets just pretend rallying isn’t a thing. And lets pretend they’re all on the same team inwhich seeing doesn’t matter since the fight was already decided.

i do double & triple stomps often. it’s one of the main reasons i was sad about the rampage nerf. at 20sec duration it was so easy to get three stomps off in form. now three is pretty tight for time, but two stomps is still very doable.

They could make a mm like wows dungeons? You can chose between three or maybe four specs? Tank , support, dps or mobillity class and queue a match and so there will not be 2 or Møre of the same spec in the same team

there is of course the problem with people signing up as the wrong category by mistake or to troll. but I think overall this would improve games a lot. team comp really matters in this game.

just play p/p DD its godlike. you will own any type of mediguard (burn guard is just a type of mediguard you know). maybe s/p or s/d could be good with DD, but d/p is going to have a hard time vis mediguard. even more so when they bring greatsword & purging flames.

most builds have counter builds, d/p’s is medi.

I main warrior not guard so try again Mr. Bad Thief Player Who Doesn’t Understand How PvP Works.

My advice totally works as I have zero issues with killing burn guards.

Even in coordinated team matches there will be emty points.

Guardian is the hard counter against thief, even before burning got buffed. Just accept that your main class is not all-powerful and has counters and move on. Either play a different class or accept that as a thief you’re gonna have to run from guardians in 1v1 siuations.

L2P and git gut scrub.

while in BWE2 I had difficulty killing veterans on my main profession (Guardian) using Berserkers gear?
Yes I’m still sour about the Dragonhunter, I hate it in every single way, the name sucks, the new virtues suck, the utility skills suck, the traits suck and the longbow skills are “meh” at best. As someone who mains Guardian this really stings.
I actually main guardian and use a Sunrise (has more particle effects than Cobalt). I never had the issue Lord Trejgon or the OP describes.

Most condition causing skills aren’t even projectiles but reflect or dodges for the few that are.

you know you can stop the application of condis right?
you can use dodge, block, blind, los, reflect, evade, & kiting against skills that apply the condis.
i always use blocks VS burn guard because it well… blocks their burns so they never get applied.

but anyhow, burn guard is just a medi guard variant- & we all know medi guard hard counters d/p thief so ofc jt gives you hard time. it’s a medi guard.
daredevil has nice condi clear tho, so thats gonna be nice.

Yay one of the few counter builds and a better condition build.

every team should have shout warrior, shout guard or another bunker with heavy AOE condi clear for mid. tournament teams all run them. i know with matchmaking you don’t always get them, but you can always swap to one if you see your team has no bunk (do this often). condis should be balanced with these builds in mind imo.

also, carrion rifle is hybrid so only 50% condi damage.

Ohh so that’s balanced then right the complete necessity of one build out of 8 classes with many builds to be on every 5 man team, just so condition builds aren’t completely out of control. Poor, unorganized 99% of games will always suffer since you aren’t on their random teams to make condition builds balanced in team fights on your point, GW2 Esports has been succeeding for 3 years now clearly.

you need to do two things when fighting a condi build: manage your condis & kill them.
you will always run put of clears, so cc them & damage them so they cant apply any more.

i can beat burn builds on engi or warrior easy, dont play much else but its all about running condi clear & using it well. all my breakdowns at the END OF THE MATCH for damage taken will have condi damage as about half of power damage revived. of course, often i dont die all game so idk maybe i have a magic wizard power against condis.

So carrion condition Engineer and a cleric shout Warrior according to your signature. One’s part of this thread and the other is probably the build with most condition removal available besides a Necromancer.

shout warrior also removes condis for the whole team. so it makes dealing with condis easier for everyone. ive nuterd condi so many burn guardians with it in team fights.

carrion rifle is just one of the many engineer builds i play (think ill be jamming cele scrapper when HoT hits), from end of game breakdowns i can tell it usually does about equal power & condi damage.
it doesnt have a lot of condi clear only healing turret (3 condis) & elixer S (2 condis split over 2 skills), but i can still beat burn guardians & other condi builds with it 1v1.

sure condi is annoying, but if you learn how to clear condis long enough to kill them its not that bad.

You have like two of the top builds for dealing with conditions so naturally you can’t complain, only thing better would be a Necromancer with a ton of transfers.

if theif takes HiS & shadow step with shadows embrace they have as much condi clear as my engi does. idk why they are complaining.

Thief only has Shadow Step for 3 which has higher cooldown than C which also gives a good tool belt, comparing S with a trait is dumb but S is still better, and HiS has double the cooldown of Healing Turret and isn’t AoE and heals half the amount and has double the cast time.

i dont run C. my only other active condi clear apart from healing turret (3 condis) is exiler S, the active & toolbelt remove one condi each. apart from a few passive single clenses in traits thats all the clear my engi has.

theif loses all damaging condis on HiS, loses 3 condis on shadow step, & looses 1 condi every three seconds they are in stealth (theif has easy access to stealth too, so blinding powder has 2 condi removed etc).

i have similar condi clear to theif on my engi, but somehow i can beat burn guards & other burn builds with it. i even beat p/p engi.

I can beat bads too, I remember a year ago being successful in hot joins with Carrion Guardian, Zerker Mantra Mesmer, Bunker turrets Engineer before they made them broken, Clerics Necromancer, Ice Bow zerker Elementalist, Bunker Beastmastery Ranger before it became popular, Rampager double sword Warrior, Bunker Thief kept me in the top 25 of solo queue.

all im saying is that you don’t need a lot of condi clear to beat a burn guard. you can tell me about your life as a hotjoin hero all you want. i only play ranked & unranked these days. sure, you can claim that all the burn players I encounter are bad & that’s why i win- but that just makes it look like you’re trying to protect your wounded pride.

burn builds are perhaps the easiest condi build to fight. they are focused on stacks no spread so its much easier to manage clears.

you need to start the channel when they are out of stealth. the player can still break the channel with a teleport. its been tracking fine for me.

Burn Stacking is Broken

not everyone dies to condi builds Style. some of us were forced to learn how to fight condi builds in wvw & actually know how to manage condi clears. burn guard is not scary if you can apply counter pressure while managing condis.

as to why condi clears shouldn’t always remove the most damaging condition first; it would remove the ability to cover condis & kill a lot of condi builds. it’s a dumbing down of the game so someone who is bad at managing condis (you, Style) can win more.

Wow. Burn guards are so defensive. This is not about burn guardians. This is about burn in general. This isn’t about WvW. You are in the wrong forums.

I do find it amusing those that everyone likes to personally attack vs just dealing with the facts.

i only play zerker on my guardian ;-)
