Try playing dungeons then, less waypoints there.

And you don’t hear those players whine that they can’t zerg the final boss chest in under 2 minutes.

Completely disagreed.

Why?

People are lazy/impatient.

Yes, but is it a good reason to build a game around laziness and impatience?

I think my biggest problem is that I feel like nothing is immersive in the world of Tyria. Besides dungeons, almost everything is one zerg fest after another being called out in map/guild chat where people waypoint in and out in a matter of minutes with no real reason other than to add another checkmark to their daily/monthly or farm a chest that takes no skill and no possible negative consequence and has the ability to drop the best items in the game.

I think it would make the game more difficult and more fun to reduce the amount of waypoints in the world.

If they were relegated to cities and a few major outposts, travelling would feel much more like an adventure instead of waypointing to content and waypointing out.

It would address some of the problems with people just waypointing in to farm events, which is kind of broken considering you can get a near guaranteed gold chest in a couple minutes without any work.

Keep the rest of the waypoints as resurrection shrines, or at least make the cost to travel to them so large that it would dissuade most players, while eliminating the cost to city and major outpost waypoints.

It would bring back some of the feel of the instanced world from GW1, while keeping the persistent world of GW2 – all while adding a little adventure and suspense to travelling making PvE more fun.

They need to make them NOT account bound. Then they can be sold on the TP and salvageable. And, those of us that like WvW more than fractals can gear up our characters too.

It is lunacy that you can buy every other tier of armor/weapons, including legendary, on the TP, but not ascended.

Normally i would say… to bad, run fractals if you want fractal loot….
but Anet changed my opinion when they made “fractal” players have to do daily’s, and now guild missions to progress through fractals….running fractals does nothing to help me advance in fractals anymore.

in my opionion there are different main focuses for players
pve player – farmer, legondaries, cares about karma
fractal player – fractal weapons, fractal gear, fractal levels
pvp/wvw players – logs in to pvp

stop forcing people to cross their main focus, it just makes people mad.

If ascended gear had the same stats as exotics, but also gave you an infusion, I wouldn’t care at all about how you obtained them as they would be specifically for running fractals.

The bump in stats really irks me as a WvW player. Like you said, I must go outside the part of the game that is the most fun for me to go get the best in slot gear.

Sure, I don’t need it, which is the common argument at this point. But, there is also no reason to keep better stats locked behind various pointless content just to keep people playing the game longer.

It doesn’t even necessarily make people play the game longer – it may merely make them play different content (which they don’t even like).

True. Although, the goal is to get them to play longer.

Hell no.
Taking off account bound on Rings would create Mayhem.
The amount of ascended rings stored is ridiculously high. A sudden flood on the TP would not be ideal, also, they would never do that as it would seem kind of against the whole Laurel system. Fractal is a method for you to get ascended gear. To be able to farm ascended gear to sell would make it the new CoF1 and would funnel all players into making Fractals required, in a sense.

I think you should be able to trade rings in for a small amount of Karma or something.

Well then enjoy your useless rings, while the rest of us with no interest in fractals all wonder why we can’t have ascended gear.

I have no pity for anyone that has a bunch of rings whining about what to do with them when there is a giant population of people who would buy them.

It’s completely ludicrous to gate stats behind specific content. Skins, I understand.

Reason GW1 players feel so bleh in my opinion

Give me an instanced CORPG over a persistent MMORPG every day.

Also, throw in a better way to heal, so that content isn’t boring and stale.

I feel like I’m playing a single player FPS with a bunch of other people in GW2.

In GW1 I felt like I was actually part of something.

So here's what I've done the last few weeks.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

clay.7849

Well, really that’s exactly what they want us to do. They want us to keep logging in daily to do the pseudo content that they’ve provided until they are able to push out an expansion for us to buy that has actual things to do.

If you do more than just that, you’ll start to realize how minor all of their monthly ‘updates’ really are. They have too few people on the live team to do anything of substance.

I guess you missed that part about no expansion in the works.

I agree with the rest of your post.

Lack of trinity makes this game boring I think

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: clay.7849

clay.7849

In the long term the lack of the trinity makes instances and any other group play boring and shallow to say the least.

People aren’t forced to co operate and work together or strategize like in other mmo’s that we’ve all played in the past.

If you want people to continue playing this game for any length of time you need to bring back the trinity Anet.

In GW2 the outcome of a fight is not decided on a spreadsheet before you even log in.

I think this post does a great disservice to everyone who ever played GvG or HA.

What is your definition of grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: clay.7849

clay.7849

Grind:

A reward system combined with a style of gameplay that is easy and repetitive. If there is no reward there is no grind. If the reward can be aquired by repeating the same task over and over again; then that is a grind.

I like this, except for the fact that a grind is subjective. What I find a grind, you may not.

Which is why I would add that when something repetitive becomes boring or tedious, then it becomes a grind.

In fact, the first few times I farm an area, I don’t find it to be a grind. As I continue, it becomes more of a grind.

What is your definition of grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: clay.7849

clay.7849

My opinion on what “grind” means, is the point at which a repetitive action becomes boring and detracts from my fun in the game. Usually, it involves the need to do some repetitive action in order to gain some type of reward that cannot be had any other way. Typical things in GW2 that become repetitive and boring enough to be considered a grind, IMO, are: leveling, legendaries & dungeon armor.

IMO, one of the best ways to relieve a grind, is to make items available for sale on the TP – therefore, I have the option to find a fun way to make gold, and can buy what I want, regardless of HOW the actual items needs to be farmed.

For example, if I like farming Orr, I should be able to do that and buy CoF armor on the TP. Or, vice versa, if I like doing dungeons, I should be able to take the profit from dungeons and use it to buy things that are found in Orr or WvW or guild missions, etc.

Having so many things account/soul bound makes the game feel more like a grind, because we are forced to do things we don’t want to do in order to obtain gear that we want.

Every form of end game content can be considered a grind by someone, but rarely is all end game content considered a grind by everyone.

Legendaries on the TP

I also find it very hypocritical that Legendaries are tradable while Ascended items are not.

Yes. Ascended items should be trade-able. In fact, most things should be trade-able. It would alleviate the pain of having to grind something you may not want to grind for a reward you want, rather than playing the way you want to play and still having a chance to purchase said item.

Legendaries on the TP

Account bound legendaries is a must

Map completion means nothing seeing as you get 2 gifts for 1 completion. I am about to make Dreamer for my thief who has 20% of the world explored.

Legendaries on the TP is the most bs thing I’ve ever seen. There is nothing legendary about buying gems, converting to gold and buying one off the TP.

Except at the current rate of about 1.1g per $1, the cheapest legendary on sale, “The Moot” would cost $1,204 USD and the most expensive, “Frostfang” would cost $2,181 USD.

So, if someone if going to spend that much in gems to buy a legendary – then good for them!

Pinks for Badges

I was under the impression that Ascended items were being added to the WvW vendors. Not sure where I got that from, but if it’s true then it had better be the stuff that’s already available or there will be an outcry from all of the people that will be “forced” to play WvW.

Also, Flame & Frost heavily implies that something is going to happen to Southsun Cove.

I’d like to see the WvW update coming up have ascended helms and gloves or something on the vendor for whatever WvW thing, then put them on the laurel vendor too.

Just once, I’d like to see the prime way to get something to be what I was actually doing anyway.

while i agree with that, i’d prefer seeing all the ascended gear obtainable by PVE means, available for badges of honor and a nominal currency fee.

Yes. I agree. Grinding PvE is no fun compared to my goals of wanting to play WvW rather exclusively.

Bull[expletive]! There is not one single aspect of this game in which you cannot participate without a full set of Ascended gear. Not. One. Single. Aspect.

Please help me infuse my exotic gear so I can run level 30-50 fractals with my guild and not get obliterated by Agony.

Are there any 30-50 fractals that are different than the ones you see between levels 1 and 10?

Yes, they have agony. So they are all different.

I just want to share that the current state of the game highly discourages alt play, as I currently estimate it will take the better half of 2013 to finish gearing my main.

I don’t play enough to warrant joining a large guild, so the only path to much of the ascended gear is via the laurel system (why should I benefit from the work of people who play daily several hours when I only play guildwars at most an hour a day?).

Even if I could find time to level my alts (when I log in, I end up using all my time on daily and monthly activity) once they are max level, it would take another half a year to gear them.

Just wanted to get that off my chest, thanks.

Sorry, but this is ridiculous. I have 11 characters and NO MAIN. Not one of those characters is fully geared in exotics and only one of them has an ascended piece. That would be my usual farmer, who acquired her medallion with laurels, just so I could maximize her magic find. Oh, and for what it’s worth, I’ve been playing since BWE1, so I’m anything but new to the game.

The painful (to you, I’m guessing) truth is that you don’t need a fully kitted out toon to do anything in this game. The fact that you feel that this is what defines your sense of fulfillment, tells me you shouldn’t be playing alts to begin with. You clearly don’t enjoy the game enough to handle them.

Enjoy your little tantrum.

I guess you don’t like being as effective as you can be playing things like WvW where every little bit counts?

I do. So, I understand the OP. I can’t even begin to dedicate myself to going through the grind of leveling and equipping an alt. It is almost pointless.

Where are all the 'guild wars'?

The original Guild Wars, AKA GW1, was based around PvP as an end game. The most glorious and famed of all PvP was Guild vs. Guild. It was one of the best PvP modes ever created in game. It had observer mode, big cash rewards, ladders and tons of Pew Pew and QQ. Everyone thought it was epic and awesome and thought that GW2 would make GvG even better.

And then GW2 came.

And there was no GvG.

And everyone that liked PvP in GW1 decided to quit and play LoL.

And now they just have a game named Guild Wars2, but left out the GvG and we all can’t figure out why.

so you want that shmexy 2 sec cast time and 100 energycost heals?
or maybe a hammerwar with frenzy?
Talking serious this is never going to happen. Trust me, ppl are asking many companies to do so(like OMGGIMME OFFICIAL VANILLA WoW). And even since this idea is popular there is no way developers would split their gaming community. Think about it, that vanilla half would never ever buy an add-on or an expansion, they will just play they old game untill tired and lost interest in it(which is soon cuz no new content right?)

Never going to happen, eh? No developer would do it, eh? Guess you aren’t as smart as you think you are.

And, yes, if that happened and people played, I would never play GW2 again. A vote would certainly be interesting.

Not sure where to post this…

Has ANet ever considered releasing a Prophecies only version of GW1?

The reason I ask, is because it is widely accepted that was the most balanced and best PvP in Guild Wars history. Actually, probably in the history of all MMOs ever.

I can’t think of anything more fun or epic than to go back to HA and GvG with prophecies only skills and classes.

I undercut mainly b/c I dislike the tp. I will continue to do anything and everything I can to hinder those using it solely to gain wealth.

If you’re serious, the best way you can hinder the market is to vendor everything. By selling items too cheaply on the market, you’re providing a savvy trader an opportunity to buy up your cheap item and flip it for more money.

Haha, exactly. I can’t say how many times I have made a profit off of someone trying to undercut the market by too much!

None of your complaints count as reasons to reduce the rare-item chance.

They’re reasons to buff the world bosses to be more difficult – More specifically, to make them anti-zerg.

Exactly. This is the appropriate way to take care of the problem.
