You sir, do not have the slightest idea of what “defense” is. You need to level some other professions, because if they invest in that pow/prec/crit, instead of “defense”, then you still have more defense then any profession beyond guardian. As well as more damage. Not to mention the way you guys can use weapons skills intended for gap closers for mobility and escape. They really need to make all of those movement skills not intended for map traversing mobility, usable with an in range target only.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
You can see the problem here.. they are both very defensive builds but stacking only power isnt doing that much of burst damage, if you compare this with condition damage its just to easy to get burst condition damage + allot of defensive stats..
You do not know what your talking about. One thing condition damage absolutely is not, it bursty or burst damage. Condition damage is steady dots, while power direct damage is equivalent damage and in many cases more damage, simply applied upon use of the skill.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Wait. Let me get this straight. You guys are complaining that the Copper Coin, Silver Coin, and Gold Coin we can earn, are being used as currency? Not only do I think you guys are of of your rocker, it appears your attempting to out smart, common sense.
We already have a plethora of gear, weapons, trinkets, armor, and other items that cannot be acquired with gold.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Just need number 1 and 3. Adding in 2 with them is over the top.

% per pulse: 20% ? 17%
Duration: 6s ? 10s (12s with potent elixirs traited)
+1/4 second cast time
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Automatic_Fire
Wiki + In-game description still say it fires a “burst of bleeding shots”
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mine_Field / http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Detonate_Mine_Field
Wiki + In-game description are inconsistent on “explosion radius” (maybe 120 is the proximity radius and 180 is explosion?)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elixir_C
Maybe clarify that the stated duration is how long the converted boons last
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elixir_S
There is a weird interaction between Fast-Acting Elixirs (-20% cooldown) and Elixir S
where the description changes to state both a duration of 3 seconds and 3 3/4seconds in-game.
The duration does not change except with Potent Elixirs (+20% duration)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rifled_Barrels
Increases Pistol #1 damage by ~10% (not the condition damage)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Energy_Conversion_Matrix
1% increase
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Jump_Shot
120 radius for leap portion
240 radius for land portion
Bonus note: with Rifled Barrels + Rifle Mod, no you don’t actually do that much damage.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Toss_Elixir_H
Notes: Affected by Potent Elixir (+20% duration), but not reflected in description
Able to grant up to two boons (that are split into 75% and 25% duration, test for duration)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blowtorch
This has changed from 3 hits at close range to 1 hit that does 3x damage at close range.
Applications: less retaliation damage, less proc hits (ex: flamethrower toolbelt’s incendiary ammo will still have 2 charges left over)
Same with the burning, instead of 3 stacks of 2s burning, it is now 1 stack of 6s burning.
Applications: Conditions have a max stack limit.

(edited by coglin.1867)
I have been noticing a few folks using wiki links in debates lately that bring to light the fact of just how far behind I have gotten. Since release of the game I have done my best to maintain the Engineer wiki information. Often I miss things in patch notes, things do not make the patch notes, or I cannot keep up, because I enjoy playing the game, have a full time job, and a family.
What I do have issues with though, is that lately, I have seen posters link a wiki page, trying to relay information, then complain if it is inaccurate. Well I am here to offer a solution. If you have a problem with a wiki page being out of date, then get off your lazy duff and test it, test it again, then update the wiki page. I do the best I can to keep up with the engineer information, as well as a lot of sigils, runes, and miscellaneous other facts that I run across that need updating, but I am doing most of it myself.
So I would like to offer anyone out there who notices something seems off on the wiki
link it here, and I will try to get to it when I get a chance. Beyond that, I would like to put out a call to the community asking anyone who can take little time to test something that is off or out of date, and update it, then please do. Just don’t troll with it. Once you sign in, it registers the changes made to the wiki to your ID and IP address, so please don’t troll by making changes in attempts at humor.
So I would like to thank you in advance for posting links to outdated pages. I would like to offer a greater thanks to anyone who steps ups and helps me update and correct them. I will do my best to organize what needs updating and what has already been updated to prevent double work.

Anyway, I wonder now why do you change your mind now about this topic. We’ve been told several times that you were never going to change character-bound to account-bound and now, without any previous notice we get it :O
What is it with you guys just slapping words in peoples mouths everywhere.
I would love to see a link to a post in which the word never was used saying “never going to change”.
I guarantee you if another random poster puts words in your mouth in this fashion, your crying foul, reporting them, and starting a flame war.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Again I’ll put out another guardian example to compare…
I can run AH and PoV and 3 shouts and get aoe healing/stability/regen/protection/retaliation/aegis/swiftness/stun break and convert conditions into boons every 24/28/48 seconds and also spec to grant healing on aegis removal etc etc etc…
Shall we go on and talk about meditations as well?
So, what does the fact that you rune the most common guardian build in the game have to do with the fact that the EG is a kit, and therefore is not effected by elixir traits??
I mean honestly, for the life of me, I cannot grasp where you are going with this. Your telling us what build you run on your guardian, here in an engineer thread. I just cannot see how it could be relevant to engineer traits.

The bad part is, that so many complained about what I consider is a foolish desire to feel special with the T3 cultural armor. When it is just as easy to take out your credit card and buy gems, convert them to gold, and buy the same T3 cultural armor.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
As I stated way earlier in this thread, all they really need to do is fix the tool tip so that EG skills do not list as elixirs and the problem will pretty much be solved.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
I do not personally use spread sheets. I believe in what happens in actual use, and that is how I test. But you know well, that you cannot mention or involve GK and not have a spreadsheet involved from him.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Odd that you mention that Zaviel, because the game actually classifies it as a turret, and turret traits effect it.
But your right, very few fights are stationary. Now I could see it thriving in WvW on keep sieges or defense, but it still needs work to thrive there. The biggest problem I see with it, on a realistic level, is that to me, I feel I have more effect using the grenade kit in the same situations. Honestly, an elite should not feel out done by a regular utility skill.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Honestly, there is an easy way to test that. 2 ways are to go to the mist. go to the golems. go to the largest golem and kill it 10 times with your grenade build and 10 times with your bomb build (golems have a static respawn time so respawn stays consistent either way) Bombs will kill the golem 10 times in a shorter amount of time then you can kill the same golem 10 times with grenades.
Also you can go to the NPC models of each profession in the mist and time your kills on each of them. You can pretty much face tank each of them so it is fairly consistent.
Another way is to go WvW and test kill times on guards, they do not move around.
There are many mobs in the world you can pick and use to test it. You will discover that with honest effort in both kits, that bombs will kill them first.
I collaborated some of my test with Bloodgruve, as well as GuanglaiKangyi and his damage spread sheets.
But don’t take my word for it. I challenge every engineer out there to test the two kits for themselves. We can never have to much input on this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
EG skills being marked as elixirs but not being effected by their traits has been an issue since beta. I have no idea why they didn’t fix it when going through the tool tip changes. Perhaps if we all keep putting in /bug reports, it will annoy enough people at Anet that they fix it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Honestly, I feel the first step is to make it a shoulder fired weapon, removing the immobility of this. That is the first step needed in my eyes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
How many ranged auto attack skills in game are targeted skills that do AoEs?
Explosive shot.
Fireball.
Water Blast.
Anymore? it might help to see what is relative and established first as well.

Vivorcha,
1…..before you make claims about the damage of the skills. I would like to ask what the damage modifier is on our #1 skill? I see so many here make claims who I am certain do not even have a clue hoe much damage it actually does. As well the downed state is not completely RnG as the wiki says.
2…..How does a skill that interrupts invite stomps? that doesn’t make sense at all. Your logic is lacking there a bit. I still cannot figure out why so many posters jump to some illogical conclusion that when you use this the pull offers the enemy a better chance to stomp. If they are about to stomp you, you use it to interrupt. Clearly they are already in stomping range, the pull is irrelevant. If they are out of stomping range, you are either using your #1 or #4 skill. Either way the pull changes nothing.
3…..That doesn’t make sense. The highest damage downed skill in the game, that does the damage in an AoE, and does an AoE Blow out, and is a blast finisher, you compare you compare to skills that function exactly as are #2 skill
What is so amusing, is that this thread pops up regularly on every professional sub forums exclaiming that their profession (usually their current main, or current leveling character) downed skills are the worst and need to be revamped.

I think it is a poorly thought out idea to demand they bring a function from one MMO to another, when the MMOs have completely different systems of play and operation. I am sorry, but i think this is a horrible idea.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
This is where the problem lies. You continue to presume your opinion of what skills fall under the more/better and less/worse should be everyone else’s opinion as well, and because you deem one better or worse then the other, that it is a fact.
You keep wanting things your way, and expect the game to adapt to you, when the very core of there design in writing contradicts what you want. For example, the devs have made it very clear that the game and its professions are absolutely not intended to have a 1 to 1 balance comparison between professions. The devs have been extremely open about the fact that they do not specifically or directly balance the professions directly compared to one another, so why would you assume they should all work on a lackluster system of repetitive re-use and re-skinning of the same skills for each profession, over and over, just to give you individually, a personal feel of congruency??

Arenanet Your Community wants duels already.
options to duel other ppl in all over tyria….
so plz open your Eyes at :“duels” duels duels duels duels duels duels duels
duels duels duels duels duels duels duels and duels.
people could spend so much time dueling and having alot of fun instread of sitting in LA and doing nothing.
I love how some really rude folks presume to speak for me and the entire community as a whole. If you want it, that is great. I was completely indifferent about. That is until I read how you presume to speak for me and anyone else who doesn’t want it.
Just because your sitting in LA doing nothing, doesn’t mean the rest of us are either. Just saying.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
What combinations are the new recipes not offering that you want?
You act as if this is something new. We have several runes for example that you can only get in one particular dungeon, and others that only drop from world bosses. Did you make threads for each of them, complaining about how they are only acquired in one manner, while other runes have multiple forms of acquisition?
Beyond that, why are you concerned if you have everything you need to aqcuire what you want, already??
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
the better possible solution is keep the ones that are already bought and remove it from TP.
And make a super-exclusive-extra-shiny-mega-limited-ultra-rare discontinued version of the most popular light cultural armor and suddenly make some accounts worth $1000s if sold illegally?
That’s more damaging than actually keeping the armor available.
I can sell a rock in my drive way for thousands of dollars if I find someone stupid enough to buy it. Similarly if someone is stupid enough to pay thousands of dollar for a GW2 used account, they deserve what they get.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Anyone else think that if I spend a 100G on a “skill” I should be able to use it on any character.
No, I absolutely do not. Personally, I feel you need to prove yourself as a commander, need some vote or approval system. I see entirely too many fools running around who had a 100g to spend, so they bought a commander PIN. Why would I want those same fools to have that PIN on their alts too?
Not to suggest your a bad commander, because i do not know you, but yes, as I see it, in this case you suffer for the mistakes of all those fools with a PIN.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Show me a build that is efficient in PvE dungeons or fotm without using a kit. That’d be great.
Here is one of several.
Let me know if you need more. There are several SD builds that do not focus on kits, as well as a few solid elixir builds.
Some even have solid success with what are referred to as inspector gadget builds
Don’t take that as me suggesting that non-kit builds are great and plentiful. Engineers could certainly use some build diversity outside of kits. I just simply feel your jumping the gun to assume there are not successful non kit builds. Particularly when you think of SD builds. or SD+CC builds with all gadgets used for CC and to trigger SD.

I thought so but I wasn’t sure, because I do not think I have actually tested a conjure weapon since they added stats to them some time ago.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
I almost never use elementalist conjure weapons, do they have similar issue to kits in this respect?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Your suggestion would benefit me, as I now need a Celestial back piece and have all of the items to make both the Quiver of a Thousand Arrows and There with Yakkington: A Traveler’s Tale, if they were forgable with dust.
But I am completely against the idea. I will simply rune fractals for another Vial of Condensed Mists Essence, because I am against “forcing” anyone to have their stats nerfed from what they need to a selection of what you want them to have simply to be mean out of your jealousy. If you want one of those items, get off your duff and run some fractals and get your Vial of Condensed Mists Essence and stop demanding negative effects of players who have already earned it simply because you cannot get it an easier way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
I do not feel you adversely limit yourself at all by using just one kit. As you said, you made tweaks and changes to adjust for how you play. That is one thing I personally feel the engineer as a profession thrives on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Wait man it’s not like I put my fingers in my ears and went LA LA LA can’t hear you! I’ve given many solid reasons to back up why I think this… and have changed your mind a bit too judging by how you’ve changed your tune about some of it.
If you say so. I find it interesting how the same poster who stated with absolute aver, that we have " hands down worst downed state in the game", then presume to tell me what my opinion is. I have had all professions to 80 for 9+ months, and 60+ levels of each was done in WvW, I spent plenty of time in each profession to have formed an educated and experienced opinion.
I never suggested you were going " LA LA LA can’t hear you!". I accurately stated that your OP in stating it as you did displayed a complete unwillingness to discuss it or learn from any discussion on it, but that you had an aggravated and angry perspective by stating it as if it were some how fact.
My point was that your original post didn’t appear to desire a discussion, but appeared to be only a rant. So, as I see it, you have no right to make presumptions as to attempt to represent my opinion for me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
commanders do not care of engineers role in their group or they simply ignore what we can do and how to make use of us.
Do not generalize the good commanders with the bad. I have to speak up about this. Last night for example, The commander we had were asking engies to use heal turrets and water fields on gates to heal the ram users. Asking for those with bomb kit to stack might with fire bomb. And stationing grenade users in key points on the wall at bay in its defense. I even heard him ask the 2 with use using FT to burn through the gate when defending, and warning them to pause when they received retaliation damage until the retaliation buffs dropped. (to be fair, it was rare that we had to worry about retaliation from the TC guys).
My point is that it is unfairly presumptuous to make such a blanket statement about commanders because it is simply not true.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Pulls/knockbacks don’t move downed players, only the “launch” effect will move them.
Your right. I wasn’t paying close attention to my point, and made a mistake in a rush. Thanks for the correction.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
But what determines a pvp fight is who gets stomped first, not who deals a bit more damage
I would argue that in many cases. I have encountered many many cases in which I was in a 1v2 where I downed one player, and had the other one low and they downed me. I spammed my throw junk to finish them off, then after they went down, pulled them to me and booby trap did great damage and allowed me to kill them and rally. I have had this happen even more often in good 1v1.
Now I am not disagreeing with you, preventing spikes is the key. I am just stating often occurring example, so that we do not write off damage value here.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Seems to me that, as said before, you would have to build for it, but it would be more or less be a set more beneficial to some ranger and elementalist builds. That is just my take on it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Well to be honest, I doubt you will have any legitimate complaints if they add new skins. There can be no such thing as too many skins if you ask me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Weren’t those the only 2 that allowed you to get a celestial back piece? I already have most of the other stat sets, and I was looking to acquire the celestial piece. This was the original goal I had in making this thread. If the celestial is not available this way, I wil just go back to some fractals and get a vial to make a celestial piece.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
I like the idea. It reinforced good forums habits, and would possibly help curb bad habits, allowing posters to pull back from bad behavior and prevent themselves from being banned.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
That may be a better solution to buffing the damage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Have we established which 8 recipes they changes to dust?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Engineer grenade builds, is the highest damage at 1500 range with the grenadier trait. A grenade build can also have a lot of survivability for little damage trade off .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Our down stat damage is weak? I am certain you are making this inaccurate statement out of a complete lack of knowledge. We are actually in the top 3 in damage from downed state skills.
Booby trap is the highest damage down state out of all the professions.
I can agree that the RnG of throw junk is bad, RnG in skills is bad period, but The direct damage is solid and if you have condition damage it does more. But it is no worse then the other professions, and as I said, booby trap is the highest down skill there is.
Perhaps you should actually test this and make comparisons before making blanket statements.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
engineer is not buffed… we got nerfed ; the current buffs are useless at pvp and wvw…
some of both actually. For example, the upcoming change to modified Ammunition is an indisputable buff. Incendiary Powder is an indisputable nerf.
Its is a fact that we are getting both buffs and nerfs, and it is opinion as to which one we are getting more of. Unfortunately I feel we are getting more nerfs then buff upcoming based on the information so far. But that doesn’t mean we can discount the nerfs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
I know, but with 30 explosives / 30 firearms this is the only trait left, that increases damage. This is not really a SD build, just leftover points spent, the damage comes mainly from rotating the heavy hitting skills and stacking conditions for Modified Ammo.
Rotation would be something like: Glue Bomb – Fire Bomb – Smoke Bomb – Acid Bomb (cancel jump) – Shrapnel Grenade – Ice Grenade – Barrage – Blunderbuss – Jump Shot.
Okay, you make a good point with the static discharge. I have to ask though, why use food and oil but stop at 80% condition duration. In my experience it is better to do 50%, 100%, or put your investment into direct damage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
All things considered, I feel the first 2 swings of the auto attacks need a damage buff. I mean they only do about 75% of the bomb auto attack. Perhaps that could be a trait, I dunno. But I agree it needs another trait of two to buff it. Then again, so do gadgets.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
3 kit one seems generally better to me.
(Though he is perplexity, which is getting nerfed)
You are wrong my friend, they rune of perplexity has no incoming nerf, i can guarantee you that.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
I agree they need more damage, either with crits or conditions. I think they hosed condition users when they removed a lot of burning and bleeds from some of the turrets.
I would be okay if they had no more hp our toughness as long as the CD were halved, allowing for a more of a disposable use of them. If not, then they definently need more survivability.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
Mork, the problem with that build is that none of tool belt skills are target able, this limit you to a very pigeon holed situation in which you have to be directly in a vertical alignment on your screen with your target.
I have hoped for a long time that they would fix this issue with static discharge. I recently came to understand it would never happen. Because then it would be so valueable in so many more builds, that the devs would look at it as they do with Incendiary Powder.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
I guess it was even before I started to play my engi seriously. The grenades used to deal 50% more damage – that’s what somone told me long ago. The patch note was -33% damage I guess. Anyone can confirm this?
Seems a bit off topic to discuss a long past change on a thread about yesterdays update but 50%, umm no. But grenades were nerfed at one point. Best part was how many threads I saw on the warrior forums of all places complaining about grenade damage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q3em9s5I4c
we always getting nerfs or non-sense idiotic buffs !!!
And what nerfs did we get? Idiotic buffs? I will take a range buff to any of my skills any day of the week.
