Ok this is what happens 99% of the time. You get downed on eng. Two guys come up to stomp, you CC one and get stomped by the other. Or… one guy comes up to the eng stands behind a pet/pebble/whatever and it doesn’t hit the intended target and you get stomped. Etc.

I dunno about that, I swear I recall the tool tip pointing out that it was a 4s bleed as well. Because they made a few different changes too it. First change was to remove bleeding from the explosion. Which sparked a lot of debate as a nerf. Then 2-3 betas later they cut the skill from 4s down to 2s all together.

How is it worse?
Warriors have one single target CC and a temporary rally. The rally is easy to manipulate. We have a single target CC and an AoE CC.
Guardians an AoE heal/damage type symbol that I find near useless and an AoE cc. We have a single target CC and an AoE CC.
Rangers, well, they are too easy to spike. There pet can easily be made useless, and they have one AoE cc. We have a single target CC and an AoE CC.
necro, 1 single target fear. We have a single target CC and an AoE CC.
I feel the abilities we have to CC several opponents has much more value then then abilities that do not prevent you from being spiked.
How is it better than war/guard/ranger/necro? The pull can be blocked/blinded/bodyblocked/pulls them closer so they can stomp you faster.
This is always my favorite argument. SSo what that our pull can be blocked/blinded, you say that as if that is unique to us. Get real man, this can be an issue for all the professions.
As far as the pull that will interrupt and prevent a stomp. Your really going with the “OMG they got closer” argument. I was really under the impression that the engineer community matured beyond this one already. If you are at the point in which your using Grappling Line to interrupt a stop, you may have noticed they are already in range to um, already stomp you. If you pulled them closer needlessly so they can “stomp you faster” as you put it, then you deserve to be stomped.

That is not exclusive to us Engineer, it is merely more convenient for Engineer who happens to use Med Kit, any other classes or Engi who use Elixir H or Healing Turret can still benefit from it, they still have the option.

Rune of Engineer is not even remotely comparable in power to the Rune of Resistance.
Rune of the engineer is not exclusive anyway. Summon weapon eles for example can benefit as easily as we do to be honest.

Unless in the future they release an equally powerful rune with effect that is absolutely exclusive to Engineer (and I mean really ONLY JUST US), this anger of mine is not going down.
We already have runes almost exclusive to the engineer. As well, with the med kit, we have a very very exclusive ability to use “on heal” benefits of runes in almost every case at a rate 50% faster then any other profession.
Not to mention they suggested they had runes in the works that would benefit the engineer in ways they will not benefit other professions along with more possibly profession exclusive runes. Perhaps you should have read the dev post on the matter before jumping on the defensive.

All they need to do with the auto attack on the pistol is swap it with the eg auto attack, i would be much more than happy then! As for the rifle, well yeah it’s just plain pants.
In the betas the pistol #1 was a 4s bleed……….I am still baffled by the decision to nerf it down to 2s.

I have to disagree with the OP. On my server, we have some fairly knowledgeable commanders, as well as some engie commanders. With the changes to elixir S and B recently, they love middle of the pile engies. They often split as we approach an enemy zerg, or group, asking for toss elixir S in a coordinated effort. We can throw it out front and mask 5 players from both directions of the maneuver. They also coordinate toss elixir B with the other professions stability, so that we can keep it where we need it on a front line clash.
Personally, I have found a build with either full soldiers or full dire gear to be very valuable with bomb kit, elixir S and elixir B.
In cases such as a door siege with heavy defensive opposition, elixir B, S, R, can be very valuable to support the gate pounders from a distance, while using coated bullets to hit enemies trying to hide behind the merlons and ramparts on the keep wall. I will often do this without any traits in elixirs with a 30/30/0/010 build, with dire gear and 100% condition duration. You may not be doing crazy damage with pistol #1, but with 100% condition duration and high condition damage, you can hit players your teammates cannot. Allowing you to put solid pressure on the defenders and force them back far enough that they cannot attack. Plus you can hit them with pistol #1+coated bullets, from a position in which then cannot get LoS to hit you back.

Why would kits scale with ascended gear? Aren’t kits simply replacing the abilities that other classes have? And they don’t scale…
Their weapons skills do scale with ascended gear, damage wise. So does our rifle, pistols, and shield. As are kits replace weapons swaps, thus weapons skills, scaling the damage if you have ascended weapons makes a lot of sense.

I would add: coated bullet is a terrible trait. As it affects 2 skills out of five, yet is a master trait.
Compare with crack shot – 5 skills out of 6 just on the rifle, recharge reduction and it does those things on the harpoon as well – that is getting moved at the adept slot. Or piercing arrows – master trait, but works on any arrow attack.Imho, they should just integrate that coated bullets in some other trait (even putting it along rifle mod and calling it firearm mod would be better than now).
Yes, it is great for tagging with, but other then that it is a very limiting trait. I have suggested in other post that they have it give static shot an extra bounce, or possibly just getting on with it and expanding the range to 1200.

Engineers, Elixir C. Turn ALL conditions into boons. (although its a long ole 40s recast)
Do we need to even discuss Necros with the 25s consume conditions that turns all conditions to a heal, and ignores poison?
Warriors ability to remove conditions every time they use a F1 key skill. and a heal that removes 3 every 20s.
Guardians plethora of ways to remove conditions.
Thieves ability to remove conditions just by being in stealth?
Mesmers ability to transfer conditions from themselves to a target with arcane thievery. Null field. Power cleanse. Traits that allow simple weapons skills like torch to remove conditions?
Rangers healing spring? up for 10s out of 30s. Removing a boon from everyone and anyone in it, every 2s. Pets with purge condition skills. Signet of renewal. Empathic bond.
Elementalist have traits and skills that can allow half of what they do to remove conditions.
Now to be fair. Some of these professions are tied to limited traits, or forced to use subsets of utilities they are not traited for to get condition removal.

Aberrant is right. Actually you can delete #1 from your skillbar. Because using pistol#1 should never never never happen.
It is great for taging mobs in PvE. Particularly if you know your about to need to tag mobs, such as in some of the seasonal events, and swap to coated bullets for help.
Certainly very limited in its ability to deal damage, that is for sure.

Honestly feels as If I am the only one who updates the engineer information at all. So everyone feel free to test and update accurate information.
The tics of glue bomb still activate steel packed powder, what changed was how the actual immobilize and cripple work.

All bombs do not only offer one chance to proc. Fire bomb, Smoke bomb, and Glue bomb all pulse multiple times. Each offers “steel packed powder”
As the wiki says
Fire Bomb hits 4x over 3s. Each tick counts as an individual explosion. You have the initial explosion, plus the tics.
Glue Bomb Pulses 3 times plus the initial explosion.
Smoke Bomb Pulses every 2s on a 4s duration, plus the initial explosion
Sitting duck offers 5 stacks with glue bomb on an 8s recast. meaning in a fight longer then 5 sec you will overlap for 10 stacks.
Precise sights, varies, depending on crit chance. Not just for bomb, but grenades as well.
Not counting what I add with fumigate, as I run EG with my bomb kit.

The fact is, that this game offers an opportunity of making proximately 1 level per hour at a leisurely pace. I say fact because it has been proven, with the information linked all over these forums at one point. That is a pretty comparative pace to many MMOs but generally better then most.
Given that you can utilize other much faster forms of gaining levels, such as crafting, if you wanted to average things of that nature it, I am sure the average level gain would be much lower then originally exclaimed.

I think the issue here is a compound problem resulting of:
- Kits have a greater-than-average utility value per slot. This is no real surprise, as they offer more abilities than other utility skills.
Although I can agree with this. I also have to give up a slot for stability/stun breaker or a spot for CC I could use to my advantage or even a condition cleanse, to get greater then average utility in a utility slot, that other professions get in a simply weapons swap.
- Because of this, the raw number of weapon skills available to an Engineer goes up (comparable to an Elementalist, but it’s the class mechanic there, we already have 2x Healing/Utility slots from the Toolbelt as our class mechanic).
Again, the problem here is that in all of that number of skills, none of them are much in form of stun breakers or cleanses, and many of the skills are redundant in their function. It is similar to suggesting that because you own more cars then your neighbor, that your a better driver.
- As a result, some selections which are universal (read: the normal weapons) are undertuned so as to not overpower the total package.
I think the specific way to more balance here would be to buff the weapons, rebalance the kits, then make them… limited. Say a weapon-swap CD until you can disable the kit again. Or a limited charge model.
This allows to buff some kits, and also to buff up the base weapons.
Under tuned? I do not feel Poison Dart Volley or Static Shot are are under tuned on the MH pistol, but that they are right on, only Explosive shot is under tuned. As well, it used to do double the bleed duration, and was halved, but the dev explanation had nothing to do with your reasoning. That is one issue I see plaguing the engineer forums here. Posters seem to love to give their assumed explanation for something while completely ignoring the fact that Devs have clearly explained the reasoning.
So what I don’t understand, is why you would suggest a line of logic or reasoning on weapon skills that contradicts facts, instead of just going along with the devs actual explanation.

What stats are you focusing on in your gear? When I was leveling, I found it best to have all defensive stats on my armor at low levels, while stacking offensive stats on my weapons and jewelry.
As well, it sounds to me as if you aggro-ing to many mobs at once. One thing that you need to learn in any MMO is how to pull mobs so that they are in groups that you can handle. That simply comes with practice. As well, Carpboy mentioned, dodging is the key to damage mitigation.

Bombs do have low burst damage while the #1 is the strongest autoattack for engineers. But according to the low burst you still need to cominbe bombs with grenades or static discharge.
I am unclear what your getting at here, as the comments where made in a comparison reference between bombs and grenades. By no means do you need grenades with bombs or vice versa. The fact still remains that an engineers using only the bomb kit, properly will in fact out DPS an engineer using just the grenade kit, properly.

I command using P/S, tool kit, bombs (Elixir infused) and elixir B (stability) HT #6 ofc
Now I usually run soldiers gear but I have been thinking g of getting clerics if anyone wants to weigh in that has used Elixir infused bombs and clerics please do.
Just wanted to offer up the idea here, but it would seem to me that with the value for damage with your set up, and working as a commander, “Dire” gear might suit you very well.
