Reveal new weapons so we can collect skins
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

In 5 weeks you’ll know them all anyway (assuming they keep up with this release schedule, and assuming warrior & thief are last). All that is left is warrior, ele, thief, engineer, and ranger. We already know ranger is getting staff & engineer is getting hammer. Ele was datamined to likely be sword. The two not sure ones being thief and warrior. Thief rifle makes sense. Warrior is the only truly unknown. That give 5 confirmed classes to work on, a near guaranteed 6 (ele) with an iffy 7 (thief), to work on for the time being.
If you want speculation on the order of release, someone has wondered if https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/
the listing there is the order. So far it fits. Interestly, this list is a different order than both the original reveal and the drop down list. It wouldn’t surprise me to find out anet organized this recently to be in the order of release. They enjoy little clues like that.
I read somewhere on these forums that Anet was only releasing 3 elite specs, then doing something else before coming back to the elite specs.

One With Air? Uh…
Your friend uses a Lava Tomb troll build in PvP. I use it as well, sometimes. It is hilarious.
Anyone ever work out if the Dragonhunter is a big game hunter or a witch hunter type? Anet said both, even though that is not possible.
Only for the leveling player, which in this game is a small fraction of the playerbase.
They either need to let us choose 3 adept or 2 master traits, etc, or equalise that traits. 9 equally powered traits would be a much better for this limited system.
Why would they change it? Do you think they will change ascended after enough time passes?
Both armors have significant advantage over standard exotic so if you want it, it will take time to craft and once crafted it’s bound to you. No Daddy Warbucks can shortcut the process by buying charged crystals or the armor itself off the TP.
Celestial Gear gives a significant DISADVANTAGE over other exotic gear.
Riddle me this:
Why is Charged Quartz still time gated?
Why is Celestial Exotic armor account bound?
Testing ascending crafting. No idea why did they left it like this, though.

It is very annoying not knowing what weapons every profession is getting. Revealing them all would give people something to do, as well as mitigate some of Anet’s bad communication rep.
Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Very odd that there is no response to this. Is it Anet’s famous lack of communication at work, or are they trying to find a way to justify saying no?
Not all classifcations should be based on the effects, intentions can work as well. In this case you could classify a trait on how strong you intend it to be.
An odd thing to say. That would mean they failed at balancing.
i think they should allow us to choose two lower traits and sacrifice the grandmaster trait as per the traits now ,instead of each slot choosing only from 3 choices.
If they did that, then the distinction would matter. Would create more diversity as well.
Every trait has the same value now. We must max the tree, and we cannot selected more than one adept or master trait. So why bother with different powered traits? For leveling? That is not a good reason.
Also the same thing goes for the minor traits.

The problem is getting back into fire, and what to do while waiting on the 10 second cooldown. maybe if Attunements actually did something baseline it would be good.
you have more skills and more attunements… if you can’t fill 10 sec with other weapon skills (15), you must be doing something wrong… and if you mean just the dps loss, that’s the point, you switch attunement for something specific and this 10 sec CD is a tradeoff…
So basically just spam everything during those 10 seconds, until you can get back to your actual DPS. Nice. I thought we were meant to save the skills for when they are needed?
Yeah, Attunements need some heavy work done to them. Maybe the Tempest will open something up.
I have never seen that. 800? No idea.
Celestial is only really for PvP (where it is overpowered). It has much less stats on actual armour. Which is why it should not be timegated.
Half the thread (forum?) is Nike.
What they could do is that, starting with the chapter you join one of the Orders, they could have a device to make it so the rest of your PS is really looking into the past. Kind of like the pensieve from Harry Potter. Maybe have one of the more powerful Chronomancer NPCs do it, or have a mirror that reflects the past? Or even using the Mists. This way, the PS doesn’t conflict with the present game, and would allow Anet to change Orr if they wanted. Will it be done during HoT? I doubt it. But it could come in as a feature pack later on.
P.S – For those that didn’t read/watch Harry Potter spoiler http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Pensieve
I like this idea. Other games employ similar things.

Oh. How I pronounce Tyria kind of makes it not work for me :P

Is this a P&D thread? One always wonders when there’s an economic question posted.
Not sure, but howabout that SEAWEED? It is the future!
They are not all soldiers…why do you think that? The Vigil are all soldiers, sure, but the other two? No.
Now Dragon hunters? Yes. Everyone in the pact is a Dragon hunter, because that is the very purpose of the pact, and that is what everyone is striving for. From the scholars back at the Priory, to the Whisper spies scattered everywhere. All Dragon hunters.
P.S Guardian says: ‘ME SPECIAL DRAGONHUNTER!’
Never mind, you’re being difficult on purpose and are simply refusing to acknowledge definitions of words at this point. I will no longer respond to you if it’s with regard to our post chain.
This from the guy who believes hunter only refers to professional hunters. Nice one.
It needs to be something high concept, but with subtle nuisances. Something like:
xXxSATAN666xXx
It is not generic, and evokes 12 year boy gamers, which gives it a different feel to the good names like Tempest and Chronomancer.
They are not all soldiers…why do you think that? The Vigil are all soldiers, sure, but the other two? No.

not everyone is going to like every name, such is life. You dont like it, that is all.
Ok?

The Pact are not all soldiers. They ARE all dragon hunters, though. The very purpose of the Pact is to hunt dragons.
That is actually completely backwards, you know. All of the pact are soldiers. From Wikipedia:
Occupational designations[edit]
In most armed forces use of the word ‘soldier’ has taken on a more general meaning due to the increasing specialization of military occupations that require different areas of knowledge and skill-sets. As a result, ‘soldiers’ are referred to by names or ranks which reflect an individual’s military occupation specialty arm, service, or branch of military employment, their type of unit, or operational employment or technical use such as: trooper, tanker, commando, dragoon, infantryman, marine, paratrooper, ranger, sniper, engineer, sapper, medic, or a gunner.
A hunter is a specific profession. Someone who hunts is not necessarily a hunter, but someone who makes their living hunting is a hunter.
Well, if you are going to go into what the Pact are paid to do, that would be dragon hunting. They are not all soldiers, but they are all finding ways to take down the dragons.
So they are all very literally Dragon hunters. That is their JOB.
I actually totally expected Traeherne to be ‘boring’, after I found out he was the first Sylvari born from the Pale Tree. He would have been like a blank slate.
It’s as if people are immature.
It’s as if people are genuinely displeased and bitter about the name.
People being “displeased and bitter” over a name really shows maturity.
Names are important. For you to not recognise that shows immaturity.
The Pact are not all soldiers. They ARE all dragon hunters, though. The very purpose of the Pact is to hunt dragons.
So many replies, so much time spend arguing endlessly in vain, restating again and again the same things. Wow, some people around this forum obviously have time to lose.
Let us just state the obvious: should Anet change the name, there would be another plethora of posts: “I don’t like this new name, use this other one instead. Even dragon hunter was actually better”. So why should Anet even bother to change it ?
Do you see people complaining like this about the Tempest? The Chronomancer? The Druid? No? Right, because you are completely wrong.
Well, warriors do not have Karl designing them, so you should be fine.
Elder Dragons were only hurt with anti-Elder dragon magically enhanced weapons. So who knows if he could be hurt.
You mean if the US army was suddenly transported into Tyria? There is no magic in our world, so the Elder Dragons could not exist here.
In that case…no. Without nukes, I do not think it would be possible. There is no way he would be susceptible to biological agents, and ground troops would get tentacled. You would be left with with air power and missiles, which would never be able to finish it.
Depends on the profession. Mesmers will mostly go the Elite spec. Guardians? Probably not.
A pact is specifically set up to hunt down the Elder Dragons.
Everyone in the pact is a dragon hunter.
Guardians are extra special dragon hunters?
Jon’s explanation made no sense. I think he needs to actually research the words he is using before he posts…
Ok, since it seems to be a day for reality checks.
Technical writing/design and narrative writing/design are different skill sets. Lots of people are amazing at one and mediocre at best to the other.
Jon came out and presented the exact kind of post you share with designers — because HE IS ONE. If you have that kind of background, he was ELOQUENT. Sadly, his audience was players, whom you generally win over with narrative writing skills. Not because they’re dumb but because its kitten near a different language. I’m sure behind closed doors he’s been duly chastised for conversing with us like peers instead of customers. And probably in terms not to far off from that. I certainly know John Smith has been slapped on the wrist for it and he’s directly biting in his commentary when he’s in a mood. We’re unlikely to see Jon open up again for a long time and that’s a pity. But by the same token I’m sure his bosses wish they’d caught it before it went out and re-processed those insights through one of the (many) outward-facing writers on staff.
What are you talking about? Jon’s statement was just flat-out wrong. It did not make any sense. He used words incorrectly. He came across as condescending. He contradicted the movie.
Are my short sentences getting to you?
Haven’t we been in the “circumstances of the age” for well over a hundred years at this point? The only thing remotely new are the sylvari, Mordremoth, and the Pact.
My thinking, and I cheerfully acknowledge this is nothing but personal head-canon until we see more in-game is that the Dragonhunters (and honestly I say “Order of Dragonhunters” under my breath half the time I read the word) has been something that’s only been coming together since the formation of the Pact. We see a bunch of different branches of Guardians brought together from the five races and the Three Orders’ separate vision of what it means to be a guardian — because dang if a Whispers Guardian and a Vigil Guardian are the same in my book — and unlike the last 100 years they are actively playing on offense and winning. This new Order gets their techniques from many roots over the last generation or two but their overall structure just in the last year. I see it as no more radical a shift/creation than the abrupt proliferation of Pact weapon technologies and vehicles.
Not all of the cross-pollination was scientific. More mystical disciplines built on common ground to do something new too.
So all of the Pact are dragon hunters, meaning the Guardian specialisation name is very poor? I agree.
Jon’s explanation made no sense. I think he needs to actually research the words he is using before he posts…
The name is weak.
New elite specialisation will be Dragonhaunter.
Brilliant. Easily supported by failed logic and incorrect definitions. A clear winer :P
I hate when MMORPGs mess with old content to keep it up with the current story. It messes with the old story. Like going through the personal story on a new character and Lion’s Arch is wrecked before Scarlet ever showed up. It’s stupid and inconsistent. Just leave it alone and make new content. Leave old content alone.
BOR-ING!
It is supposed to be a living story.
He never steals our glory. We steal his, though. Hell, we steal glory from EVERYONE.
P.S Death to Caithe.

A buff is a buff, man, I’ll take it!
Asura necros OP now.

A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions. I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking. We had other generic names in mind but felt like it was important to have a mix of spec names that are generic fantasy, more Tyrian fantasy, and more high concept. This one falls more in the third category.
Thanks,
Jon
Ahahahahaha!

Switching elements is already important to the class. Making it baseline would reduce build diversity by punishing elementalists from focusing on one element (Other than fresh air builds) when it’s already one of their weaker options to the point where only one very specific weapon build can get away with it in one particular game mode.
All of PvE is Fire staff. Nearly all fire traits are related to being in fire. We need MORE reasons to be encouraged to attunement swap, instead of just losing 80% of our damage.
aren’t you encouraged already by having different skills? so you can be all the time in fire except for situations where you need some other skill, some CC or heal for example, then back to fire… what’s wrong with this? I think ele was played as a spammy attunement dancer for too long, another options are welcome…

Of this month? How does that make sense?
No one uses it in dungeons because it slows you down, while not saving you from 1-shot mechanics.
How about instead buffing healing power? So i finally has some meaning. As it stand in this game, if you trade raw power for toughness, healing power or anything other you always make a poor trade. The amount of defense gained in relation to the amount of power/dmg lost is in no relation. And i’m not taling about 1:1 translation.
By the way give guardian +400 healing power baseline ( why? that’s too much? as if it would have any meaningfull impact in it’s current state). After all, that`s the class most people would think of when they where ask, who the “healer” class ingame would be or who would benefit the most of it.
Healing power completely trivializes the hardest content in this game. It doesn’t need a buff.
Oh definitely. That’s why every single person who runs fractals, dungeons, and world bosses stacks healing power.
Not everyone seeks to trivialize content, instead they’d rather have fun, do it quicker, and find a little enjoyment in it.
Wow thanks for that tidbit of irrelevant information you felt was necessary. Maybe next time you can actually read context and then we won’t have these embarrassing accidents anymore.
I think he got the context just fine.
What do you want healing power to be? Invulnerability tier? It’s close to that already… You can facetank mossman or lupi if you want. Why do you want to make it stronger? Do you hate PvP or something?
Do you want to make group healing stronger so we can bring in trinity-lite to this game?
What do you actually want?
Nope. Jerus totally missed the point and said something completely irrelevant.

Let’s remember that everything ever will change about the stat system with the disconnection of stats from traits. So whatever preconceived notions you have about how people run their armor stats right now are completely irrelevant to the new system and however they will choose to incorporate stat adjustment.
Also it’s worth considering that while they are trying to preserve as many of the old builds as possible, they are also opening up the possibility of new builds.
Open your mind to new possibilities instead of treating metabattle.com like a prescriptive holy text.
What in the name of God are you talking about?
