True that Bro!
The idea of LS was very good, and the storyline could have went in a different direction. However, the execution left much to be desired. 2 weeks was not enough time to allow players to finish the “chapter”. A month would have been much better.
I do wish, however, that Anet would bring back Zephyr Sanctum and even SAB , which in my eyes were the best parts of last year. With the demise of LA, I don’t know if there will be a Dragon Bash – also fun, along with the Pavillion in DR.
So totally agree, this new systems is horrible. Would much rather have transmutation crystals/stones back in place.
Looks like we really had it good before, when one could set a route for our toons to go and gather items required for ascended gear. Now it is find, gather, send one’s toons to same area and nothing is there to gather. Frustrating to say the least.
Sadly after 10 days, we’ve yet to receive any word (at least on the NA server) about any issues that players have expressed. Yes, there have been replies to tickets about hacked accounts, as well matters such as that. It would be detrimental to the community if this silence continues after the offical China release. Even a platitude of “we have read your concerns and are working towards your continued support” would be nice. Anet’s silence is deafening.
Ain’t nothing happening until the China release, let alone Anet answering questions. Sadly for them they have some competition in China with FF and other games showcasing their games at the same time.
Killing the trash mobs in Arah is likely to wipe your party before dungeon even starts LOL, and running thru the trash along the way is logical. The only dungeon (aside from COF p.1) that I’ve run 100 times is COE p.1 with a core group of guildies in order to get Gift of Knowledge and armor/weps with extra tokens. It was fun trying to shave off time each run. But this was before the guarantee of x amount of gold per path.
As suggested earlier, advertise in LFG what you are looking for clearly. But, please don’t ask that Anet change things so that EVERYONE has to play the way you want to play.
Actually they’ve done a little work in Cursed Shore to make it more challenging despite the throngs of players, out for Grenth & Arah. Escorting the PACT to re-establish Penitent spawns 2-3 Champs, altho there’s a Vet that will do you in faster than either of the Champs. It’s a shame the drops have been nerfed so badly. 1 t-6 mat out of 20 heavy moldy bag. ::sigh:: Spent 2 months in CS running Plinx, Penitent, Shelter’s Gate, etc. a year ago and gathered almost enough t-6 mats for a legendary. Now the drop rate is horrible and it’s more profitable being elsewhere. And, you’re right there are other places that are scarier – Brisban comes to mind <g>
All the megaservers have done is to make it possible to fix dinner and kill Shatterer at the same time. I’ve never felt so alone in the game as I do now. Guild Missions last weekend were horrendous, parties/taxi’ing members to the map, some missing it – Meh! There is little challenge in PVE now, with the exception of Cursed Shore events that are a little more challenging.
Most of the people I’ve talked to, including random players, friends and guildies, dislike the megaserver. There is no challenge in game any longer, since there are soooo many people on the maps. Bosses go down in seconds, rather than minutes. Easy way I suppose if 50 people are fighting a Champ Risen Wraith. LOL This game is easy anyway, for pretty much anyone. Now it’s like set on auto-attack and go knit a sweater. Friends/guildies are not placed on the same server, there is alot of party/taxi’ing to do guild events/missions. Gathering is horrendous since every MegaS is different. RP is difficult with trolls, even map chat is beyond annoying. I can’t even imagine what it’s like in EU worlds. I’d rather have overflow, any day of the week. And, it does not bother me if I’m the only one a given map, such as Snowden Drifts. At the least, Anet could exclude the racial cities from Megaserver status.
LOL Not surprising on Reddit, full of fanboys I guess.
I’ve not seen a single friend/nor guildie after being online for 4 hours in the “same” areas as they. Feeling quite alone in the world of Tyria, despite there being a ton of people around. ::sigh::
Shatterer went down in maybe 5 minutes – what a joke – no challenge whatsoever. Fondly remember 4 of us working on Tequatl (before his change) in the early morning for a half hour before anyone showed up – the “good old days”
Had really wanted to continue role playing, but that is a no go since megaservers. Was even willing to spend the 30$ to transfer to TC, but that transfer is meaningless anyway, since they are split up anyways.
One request for Anet is that the higher nodes be placed on all servers in the same place. It would make it much easier to get a routine down, or route if you will, for all my 80’s to take. The grinding to outfit 14 level 80’s is annoying enough, without having to hunt down the nodes on every single server. Change them up with updates, like before NP And Anet does have the capabilities (or had before when I’d be placed into overflows at FGS) to regulate how much Ori & Ancient wood a player gathers.
Would love to back with my own peeps again, but that isn’t going to happen.
If Anet keeps the fail Megaservers, which they undoubtedly will, what is the point of having different world servers, ie TC, FA, SoR, etc.? The ONLY good thing I like about Megaservers is that I might just get that Giant killer finished to get Slayer hahaha
In answer the question about what to do with all the time? I’ll be playing FF XIV, along with a teeny bit of GW2 with my dd. LOL
FA was always left to right troll to bandit to oak to (spider when it was champ) but now to boar or wasp if up while waiting for boar, rinse and repeat. If SB starts, then train begins at oak following SB.
Never did it for loot, just for Champ Kills (monthlies). Loot is not so good, all those various colored 4 or 5 slot bags LOL
I love GW2 and it will always be my first love. The $ I’ve spent in gemstore items has far exceeded the cost of the sub p2p games. I’ve spent 5,000 hrs the past 16 months playing this game. Just wanted to establish that..
FF xiv has been able to add new content steadily at least once a month – having had 3 major patches over the past 4 months adding permanent and temporary (holiday) events (at 1/10 the size of d/l as GW2), and they ALWAYS post when you log in that certain worlds or all worlds will be unavailable at such and such time on a certain date. Their customer service gets back to people within a couple of days.
It worries me that Anet doesn’t respond to the many voices regarding the megaserver issue, esp. for the roleplayers, and seems to be taking a “wait and see” attitude over what happens following this patch. Sadly the community has become increasingly toxic in-game. In map-chat one person told a new player (lvl 6) when he offered to give someone lower than he an insta-level scroll to “read it genius” a couple of times. Whether that is reportable or not I have no idea. If this ignorance in “conglomerated” worlds goes on, I’m certain that alot of people will just leave, esp. new players. I understand why the megaservers were instituted (to save money as well as make it seem that the world of Tyria is more inhabited). But, this has had some repercussions on many levels, including guild missions.
I’m just finding it difficult to want to continue playing.
The megaserver idea was merely meant to conserve resources, yet they put their own spin on it. I really don’t care if there are others on a certain map, tbh. Most events can be completed solo. Waiting 10 minutes at Mannerheim Bolt-throwers in Snowden Drifts sucks.
Yes, I will be playing FF XIV as well as TESO. For some unknown reason FF xiv is able to put out new content with 1/10 or more the mb’s to download and take seasonal events without a patch.
If GW2 wants to really succeed they need to add permanent content, whether it be semi-annually or whatever. People will tire of being tossed from one map/world copy to another and leave. And, that is truly sad, as I loved this game, 4800 hrs. in a 12 month period, and I’d be happy to continue spending as I have been for gems (200-300$ a year or more) for that.
It’s a shame they implemented this patch without thinking it thru. The changes in World Boss events is horrid, including the timers. With the advent of API the websites gave accurate info of when Meta events should happen, much more accurate than before. A person could log on in the evening, knowing that they would be able to do a few events, say Jormag, Jungle Wurm, Svanir Shaman Chief, the Shatterer. Quite disappointed at how they changed the sequence or required participation in said events (the Maw was always, kill grawl, escort Brolin, kill mobs, destroy totem, kill the Chief’s underlings, destroy Portals, kill Shaman Chief, collect loot.) Now that event fails if you destroy totem, before Shaman chief arrives. You made him difficult enough with a previous change. If it takes 5 minutes for pre-events, provided no one has destroyed the totem, and 15 minutes to kill him (15 minutes is allowed) doesn’t that inhibit your new schedule of low level boss events? I echo the concerns of the megaservers and understand that Anet is doing this to conserve resources (which am sure with the flock of people leaving the game is necessary). New content is what is wanted, leave the old stuff alone. tbh, I wish they would kitten-can this patch and go back to the old way. Large guild events/missions are nigh on impossible to do, bounties, especially when the entire map is contested. Why in the world would Snowden Drifts or Plains of Ashford (for puzzle) have each and every WP contested? Well, I went from avg of 13 hours per day for a year, to about 1 hr per day to complete dailies (which of course changed) and I suppose I can go to 0 hours a day, and you (Anet) don’t need my 30$ a month or so in buying gems. Megaservers are 10 times worse than the overflow events ever were. Good luck for the future Anet.
Totally unimpressed with the megaserver idea. Am guessing A-net is not doing well at the moment if they have to lump all former servers together. And, am quite curious what will happen Saturday when the Guild Missions reset. Thinking that my guild will end up in different maps, and it will be nigh on impossible to get us all together. I would so much rather go back to what we had, even with the overflows during certain events, such as the Marionette had. I’d also rather go back to the previous schedule of world events along with the API. Now it’s like what’s next on the rotation, try to get there long before it starts so maybe, just maybe one will be with guildies.
All the people saying, Yippee – we can re-trait for free, it’s wonderful! Question for you: Come on, how often do you re-trait your toon? Sure, I’d do it going in and out of WvW, but the paltry 3.6 silver was no big deal. A way around it was to level up another toon to 80, same class different build. I’ve 14 level 80’s, one of each class,
Now I look at my lowly 31 lvl mesmer who had 2 adept traits now with 1 minor trait and wonder how much I want to level her up. Not too sure about that. Would delete her, but she’s for a guild I’m in (already deleted her predecessor who was 80 because I didn’t like her looks).
Anyway, I can see how daunting this would be to alot of players. Personally, I don’t like Anet’s “new” idea of horizontal progression. Have a feeling many will tire of this.
Probably the same as I play now, which is a fraction of what I played before. From December 2012 to December of 2013 I played 4,800 hours, an average of 13 hours a day. I loved the game, couldn’t get enough of it. Spent more than a p2p game buying 10 character slots, keys and other accoutrements to the tune of 300$. With the disappointment of the LS, the zerg fest cluster kitten events, my play time went from 13 to less than an hour a day if that. I’ve 14 level 80’s and one on the way. With this update, including the megaserver crap, traits (I mean why in the world would I want to unlock traits doing events that I’ve done many, many times). Sorry the game has become a grindfest , with the implementation of ascended gear/weapons. The drops in Orr are abysmal, 1 t-6 mat out of 20 bags maybe? Whereas a year ago I spent a couple of months camped in Orr (when there were people there on a regular basis) and almost had enough mats to get my legendary (minus the precursor, of course). I’ll attribute the economic downfall of the game with the little shaky chest, when to begin with you could do the maw all day long til the cows come home and get lots of rares, then they changed that to once per day account wide. Scarlet’s events were lucrative, tho. The flame and frost dungeon was amazing, as well as the Zephyr Sanctum. I currently have 13 or 14 level 80’s, and 2 on their way, but will probably delete many of my toons and sell their crap, then keep one so I can play with my dd a couple of times a week. Other than that, I’m more than disappointed with the changes they have made with this patch. The ONLY good thing about it was the account bound dyes.
I don’t recall what the transmutation crystals costs before (since all of mine were gained from area completion or whatnot). Yeah, 5 charges wlll cost 15 gold – or US$ 7.50 for 25.
At level 30 in the old regime you had 1 minor (5-point) trait that you won’t have in the new system. Hardly game-breaking.
1
/actually at level 30 in the “old regime” you had the possibility of 1 Adept trait (along with its minor) and being 1 point shy of a second Adept. I can’t recall if the trait points started at 10 or 11. If it was 10 then you would have had 2 Adept traits unlocked, and would have to wait to level 40 to buy the next book.
Ranger 1: My main, Farming, Meta evens, HOTW, TA, SE, COE
Ranger 2: Farming, everything
Ranger 3: Huntsman, close to 500 can’t delete her, and she’s fun to mess with
Warrior 1: Armorsmith & Weaponsmith, close to 500, COE, COF, farming
Warrior 2: WvW – Commander
Guardian 1: Farming, dungeons
Guardian 2: Farming, meta events, LS
Guardian 3: Only 53, leveling, getting lower tier mats
Mesmer 1: Farming, Meta, LS, Tailor close to 500
Mesmer 2: Farming, guild shenanigans
Necromancer: 500 Artificer, LS, meta
Thief: Fun in WvW, Leatherworker
Engineer: Meta events (Maw esp) Farming, Leatherwork also close to 500
Ele: Farming: Meta events
Each is working towards mapcompletion, dungeons etc. I love the versatility with lots of toons to mess with at all times. LOL There’s always something to do with them. Since I have so many alts w/their needs the legendary procurement has fallen back in priorites. Each are 400+ in different crafts, I probably forgot one or more LOL
Personally I’ve spent over 2,500 hours playing ranger, and another 2500 hours with the other 7 profs. Have rarely seen a so-called “bearbow” ranger. I don’t do pug dungeons, never have, never will, would much rather do with guildies as whatever prof (I have 14 80’s). Those so called 13-yo elitists could be my g-grandchildren, in which case they are their parents’ problems. LOL To reiterate, I don’t use bears at all, mostly sword/d or gs with a bow, and I’m just as happy turning off my healing spring, spirit, spotter, and search and rescue, rather than revive 4 different players during maw or Jormag as I did today. I’ll just worry about my own dps & life. The forums have become exceedingly caustic which is a commentary on the status of the times today, I suppose. And, it is a sad state of affairs. After all this is just a game. Will still pop in to see the Dev’s comments.
I used to have a toon Illusionist Beeste, but 86’d her since I never played her. Recently when re-creating the character for my guild, ( we have a group of clones) it wouldn’t let me use anything that had the word illusion in it. Not sure why that is.
Not a bearbow, and have 3 80’s along with 11 other 80’s (at least one of every prof) I agree Point Blank shot is quite a nuisance as is the pet’s wonky unpredictable AI, but I wonder how many of those who dislike Rangers have been rezzed by some lame ranger’s pet. I think I’ll fill that slot with another skill in the future <smile>
Not weird to make new toons. Heck I have 14 lvl 80’s, one of each prof plus extra rangers, guards, warrior, and each I like for different reasons. And I understand about the FPS problem, but for me it’s because of my atrocious internet speed. Sometimes the meta events are like looking at a flip book, and I could probably take pics on a camera that fast LOL Proud to be an Alt-aholic
Oh yes, Anet please bring the Holy Trinity to GW2, since there’s nothing like spending 45 minutes in Duty/Party Finder because you’re DPS (along with everyone else and their mother) to get into a dungeon, or being a tank (expected to lead) for the first time in a dungeon and getting kicked because you don’t know where to go, who to mark first, second and third , or painfully leveling a healer then getting blamed for the tank’s death. Cuz you know if the tank dies it’s the healer’s fault and visa versa. Then having to roll on loot like on FF xiv. Good times
I love the fact that GW2 does NOT have a “holy trinity”. I’m responsible for my own viability. After 5,000 hours and 13 level 80’s. all professions plus extra guards, rangers and warriors (not to mention the ones I 86’d because I didn’t like how they looked, their race or talked) I know my jobs, know which of them would be best during a certain dungeon or event and proceed accordingly. Not all are zerker , some PVT for WvW, others CD, but they work for me. If the day came when Anet started using the Trinity system, that would be the day I’d quit.
If every other game out there (which I doubt) has the Trinity, then to the OP, I suggest you go play them.
hahaha TheReaper – I’d always wished for the opportunity to fall into Nightmare, and now perchance will be able to dominate, instead of being called a salad or fire fodder. Ceara/Scarlet was a martyr of the one true superior race. Let our true master Mordremoth show the meat sacks the errors of their ways.
I’m also surprised that there wasn’t a Scarlet hairstyle in the new kits. Taimi’s I was happy about, Kasmeer (who I believe is dumber than a fence post) I didn’t care about at all. The closest Sylvaris came to was the “rose” or cabbage pigtails, which makes no sense. Scarlet is dead, what does it matter that someone wants to look like them. I rather liked her, maybe not her methods, but she was alot deeper than any of the Destiny’s Edge v.2.0 .
Hahaha Wondrouswall – You nailed it! It evades me how inaccurate Anet’s description of the Ranger is i.e. Thief with SB, and Warrior w/LB far exceed our pitiful output along with pets who are unmanageable in many situations. I love ranger, I have 3 80’s different races and have spent 2500 hrs. on my main, but am at a loss in the zerg events like LA’s destruction. We did fine w/Marrionette. If only we could place our pets, since they cannot dodge, and at least keep them alive longer in huge zerg type events. Even that one ability would help, since we cannot stow them. Well we can keep them inactive at least until we’re hit, do pitiful damage, and then all bets are off. I would imagine from a programming side, that it would be doable to be able to place them exactly where we want, not so sure about the dodging . It truly makes me sad all the nerfs we’ve received starting 6/25/13. I’ll still play, but our compaints and issues are falling on deaf ears.
To the OP, my heart truly goes out to you I, too, suffer from invisible illnesses, which people have no clue about nor do they care for knowing. I also play for an escape, and although my eyesight is failing I find it fun and challenging. Some days are good, some not (as I’m sure you know), but it’s a world where I can run and be free. Thank you ArenaNet for providing a place for us. Blessings to all, blessing for tolerance and blessings for good things (health) in your lives.
I thought they would have left the old Lion’s Arch, since the PS is thought to be a year prior to the LS. I just tried the Reconnaisance PS, and had a difficult time getting everywhere. And yeah, it was funny with the risen everywhere along with the burning city around.
I totally agree with the OP. Long before this event, I’ve noticed a decline in the civility and courteousness of other players. Before if you saw an NPC dead, you rezzed, and if you saw someone on the map down, I’d wp to them to help. It’s like if I don’t get anything out of it, other than the xp, forget you & I’m not taking the time to rez. It’s kind of sad.
Disaster! one word to describe this update
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: dkspins.4670
Zergs not my thing, story is. Just enjoying talking to survivors. And, all the the while, the saddest part is that once everyone has their little backpieces and cheeves, LA will be a wasteland.
And, yet I still don’t understand why it is that GW2’s new content updates are 15 – 30 times the size of other MMO’s , such as FF xiv. And, they (FF xiv) SE can take away temporary holiday content without an update. Don’t get me wrong, I’m truly excited for the new update (altho w/my kitten isp may take hours), and am really sad about the changes & destruction in LA. After all, it was entertaining just to read map chat), but I loved the place, warts and all.
yes, can hear Trahearne saying " This won’t end well" <smile> grrrr
Such a wonderful tribute to Lion’s Arch! Actually brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for making this.
Agreed, I truly dislike WvW. MIt makes no sense in capture this camp, leave, find another to capture and let the first one go back to whomever takes it again. Anyway…
My question is this: If I already have my Gift of Battle do I have to go back and get to rank 30? If I do, then I’ll bag the whole deal (was only waiting on map completion) Thanks
I’d much rather see the Marionette stay as a permanent boss fight, as well, with the modifications of needing 50-75 people or so. The wurm event is chaotic and really not alot of fun. The marionette could stay, if they were to explain that she developed an AI of her own and broke away from Scarlet’s control, or something like that. That is, if we are really going to defeat Ms. Briar within the next 3 patches. I truly hated the wurm event and will not be going back. The marionette fight is enjoyable. Agreeing with the OP!
The overflow I was in just finished it 15 minutes ago. Couldn’t be with guildies on home server, but it worked out just fine for me.
An expected disappointment to be sure. Really tired of this (it takes 50 people to do or fail) deal with events, other than dragons, and the lag between events is tedious. People don’t have an hour or two to wait for a 10 minute event. Also, FF XIV managed to put two new events in several areas with 24.85mb, whereas GW2 had patches 15 times higher for 2 events in 1 area each.
The stat increase is about 9pts on the largest stat, and maybe 50 points total defense over exotics. The amount of exotics one has to craft to even get to 450, not to mention the inscription(s) costs, plus the costs of the ingredients, and time spent to make it all is quite alot. I’m not sure they are worth it. Maybe they are for some. A legendary has less going into it, in many ways.
The rabid orichalcum inscription can be purchased thru the Trading Post for 6plus gold, or it can be “rewarded” as an arbitrary drop. One would think that paying 41k karma would give one the “entire” recipe.
Why is there such disparity between the ascended inscriptions? So, to make a Grizzlemouth Rabid Ascended item, I have to wait for an arbitrary drop of the Orichalcum Rabid Inscription, or pay over 6 gold for one on the trading post? When I bought the bloody item for 21k karma from the Master Artificer I incorrectly believed that it was for the entire inscription. Paying 6 gold for a recipe is not worth the extra 9pts, or 50 pt defense in my book, especially when others only have to pay 600karma (all of which I already have).
Sadly those of us whose internet bandwidth is less than stellar will be missing out on this. When there are 20-30 players, my fps is less than 1, which makes playing annoying. I cannot imagine it with 80plus.
thanks, I’ll try that.
Are the Dragon’s Jade Claim tickets usable now? I was waiting to use mine til my char. was 80. When I went to BL Weapons Specialist in Lions Arch, those skins weren’t listed.
He’s there on Fort Aspenwood, but now is in the middle of Fields of Gold, with free reign of the area, and not in that area by Caer Shadowfain with the cannons. There are more extraneous mobs to deal with and it’s a big pain literally. Plinx is off my list of events to do. It’s next to impossible to run away from him since he can practically go to R&D waypoint. I was trying to determine his range of movement, and it’s now huge.
The new changes with the May 28th patch have made killing him even worse. His spawn has been moved and he now has free reign of Fields of Gold, not just one or two mobs, now there are many drakes, vet risen giant, and 4-5 risen preservers/putrifiers to deal with as you try to kill him. I’ve been told by others who are more exp. in dungeons that he is tougher than any dungeon boss, he’’s tougher than any world boss, with the exception of Lupe in Grenth (which hasn’t been completed since the orig. changes). What do you get for the effort of killing him, a blue and if you’re really lucky a green item. Makes no sense to me. The biggest reason I farm CS is for the t-6 mats for a legendary which requires a huge amount of them. Now to do Plinx it ends up costing around 4s to port back to Caer Shadowfain, and about 8-11 s to repair, after dying with his 19K hits. All for a blue item, and a few heavy moldy bags which usually do not contain any t-6 mats. Keep your legendary, Anet. You expect farming, yet make it difficult and costly in time and silver to do so. No more…
