Vitality VS Healing power

in Warrior

Vitality is still better solo (as healing power has low scaling per point), but in groups, especially if you’re running a shout heal build, healing power is far surperior as you’re utilizing heals on yourself + 5 others and they’re on a 20-24 sec CD as long as you’re using the right shouts and traited.

Ultimately, per shout heal rotation, it results in about +800 more direct healing per person (so approx 4000 more healing) and since you can do this approx every 21.5 seconds, the longer a fight goes, the better it is. Extrapolate a 64 second fight (assuming you use your heals right when they’re up), and it results in a difference of approx 64,000 healing to 40,500.

Guild Bounty Overflows

I often join into overflows and then join in on the spawning server with the above method - unless there are different limits based on how you get put in overflow vs a server’s truly max population (e.g. a server can hold 250, but at 200 begins putting individuals into overflow) that I’m not aware of and am just getting lucky?

Guild Bounty Overflows

There’s actually an easy way around this if you have guild members already in the normal (non-overflow) zone. Although it won’t help you if you all join and nobody gets in the normal zone.

Here’s how it works, the people in the normal zone drop their party, and have the individuals in the overflow join their party, then join in (right click the name of the person in the normal zone) on the individuals in the normal zone, thus by-passing the queue time to get in the non-overflow server. While this is probably not intended by ArenaNet, it is a way to bypass overflows if any of your members happen to have gotten in early enough to the normal server.

Hope that tip helps in the future, and of course hope ArenaNet addresses the issues around guesting and the current group event issues.

BG - CS Pent/Shelt - Farming w/ Guesting

Hi all,

Currently working on my legendary (need about 125 of all the t6 mats, 75 onyx lodestones, 99g for my runestones, precursor, and around 100 ecto’s).

Just thought I’d share how I’ve recently been farming Pent/Shelt when I am absolutely bored of path 1 CoF farming. I get around 3-4 of us, all guest to the same servers, and from there each of us camp a different server informing either when Pent/Shelt is up and then we all switch to that server. What this results in is very little downtime between Pent/Shelt events and almost a consistent uptime of farming the insane amount of mobs that spawn during these events.

I’m not going to sit here and say it is the best farming in game (cof p1 all zerk/1mes farm is no question the best gold farm), but it certainly does quite well and is a welcome change that any profession with any build can easily do. In particular, running minimal MF (omnom bars + banners) results in around 2 gold or so per hour in just currency drops, 10-15 t6 mats across the board, and 2-4 rares per hour, with the occassionaly exotic thrown in every 6-8 hours.

If your home server is BLACKGATE and you’d like to join us, please feel free to add me – We run these rotations often on the weekend (almost 24/7 lately), and during the weekdays we are available in the evening. We also utilize mumble/TS/skype, so if you’re looking to farm more with hardcore legendary grinders, then hit me up

Thanks,
docMed

I’m currenty at 90% world completion on my max size Norn and am doing Straits of Devastation. The Lightfoot Passage vista is almost impossible. I am good at JP in general but have died at least 15 times on this one even after looking it up on YouTube.

The problem is that the size of the character and the camera are not fitted for the puzzle.

I know this has been discussed before and the developers have even apologized for it. I don’t care. It is extremely annoying. FIX IT. Thank you.

I’m sorry, but if you can’t complete a vista (which technically is not a JP), then you are not good at JP’s in general. Up your skill casual!

This particular vista comes after the jumping puzzle (you get credit for the JP, yet have to climb much further), so it’s a lot harder than your average vista.

It’s probably one of the hardest vistas in the game.

I have 100% map completion and I can’t remember a difficult vista =/, although I do recall the straits JP. Most JP’s (the difficult ones) take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to complete and involve multiple stages. This is one of the easier JP’s, and sure, maybe one of the harder Vista’s, but as noted "I am good at JP in general" was more what I was commenting on and simply giving him a friendly hard time.

There has to be an advantage to having a larger guild – else what would be the point? They’ve made larger guilds more desireable and are making guilds themselves more desireable. It’s all a step in the right direction, but there really should be a reason to have a 30+ active player guild, vs a 3-5 active player guild.

Does it? A mechanical or statistical advantage for big guild players? Why?

I would think more from a mechanical standpoint – trying to invision 5 people doing some of the mission types they’ve explained is rather difficult (I would think 15 to 20 would be ideal).

I agree there is definitely too large of a gap between the influence small guilds gain vs large guilds. In my original post I indicated that the first guild mission should have just been unlocked for everyone free. Subsequent initial research costs should have been very small (1k to maybe 10k match), but include a much longer research time (say 1 1/2 weeks or so to get another mission type unlocked). Then, I would tweak the boost times from say 75K a boost, to 150k to maybe even 200k, or how about a scalable boosting system (base boost cost is 25k, and then subsequent boost costs continue to increase by 75k per use). This way, large guilds would be forced to burn a lot of influence to get the content “quicker”. But ultimately, the idea is that max boosting would be extremely costly and only provide maybe a 1 or 2 week advantage at any point in unlocking content. I think that would be a fair compromise and smaller guilds wouldn’t feel screwed because they still get content, will eventually get all the content in the foreseeable future, and there is still a reason for guild leaders to orchestrate large guilds, etc.

I think the simple resolution for the current Guild Missions system is this:

- Large guilds should have an advantage, but not as much as they have now over small guilds.

No. Absolutely not. I don’t know what kind of thinking leads to people saying that any size guild should have an advantage over any other size guild. That isn’t a fair compromise at all… large guilds aren’t special… they aren’t more important… they aren’t anything other than a larger collective of normal players. And should be treated as such. The ONLY advantage a large guild should have is in meeting the playstyle needs of it’s members… I.E. Large scale group dynamics. Increased influence gain is also an advantage. Beyond that, they deserve absolutely nothing. People that don’t enjoy that wouldn’t see it as an advantage, and wouldn’t feel disadvantaged for not being in a large guild.

This isn’t WoW… and shouldn’t be made into WoW.

They have a reason to exist… that reason is some players enjoy playing in large groups…. and they have an advantage… faster influence gain. They “DESERVE” absolutely nothing beyond that. They are not special… they are not more important… they are just a larger collective of normal gamers. End of story.

Yep, and that faster influence should give them an advantage in some manner (I agree its too large at this moment).

I think the simple resolution for the current Guild Missions system is this:

- Large guilds should have an advantage, but not as much as they have now over small guilds.

In order to correct this, just make it so the content is still somewhat gated, but the initial cost to research these missions is much less (say around 10k total). However, for large guilds, make the boosting mechanic even more expensive then it currently is. That way, large guilds simply get access to the content faster if they are willing to boost it out (say it gives them a 1 to 2 week advtange overall), but smaller guilds can still feel like they’re researching the mission, but on a longer scale. I think this would be a fair compromise.

Why don’t they just give us guild missions? So you can play them any time, make it bigger reward for bigger guilds or something, i don’t care that about reward friom guild missions. At this state, they are now worse then raids in WoW (didn’t play orig wow, only on some private)

Well that’s basically what I’m saying. Whether it is release to us immediately (I would have liked to have seen the first guild mission immediately available to everyone) or slowly released over time through research barries doesn’t bother me – in fact I like the idea of unlocking and progressing. I’m currently in a mid-sized guild (around 160 players, with 30-50 active on any given night), so this is rather moot to me, but I can feel for the smaller guilds.

The problem really though – is the rewards. If guild missions had 0 tangible rewards, then no1 would care about the system. Large guilds should have an advantage here, but simply not as much as they do – the gap in progression should be simply cut down significantly between the two (e.g. a large guild should only be maybe 1 week to 2 weeks ahead in research time overall).

More realistically – if you tried to simply grind a legendary in wvw – it would easily take you a year. Not to mention of the course the quick dungeon grind and world exploration + buying obsidian shards.

Wow… I didn’t realise it until I read your comment.

We can now act as mercenaries… join a big guild that’s still got a few places open and in exchange for being told when guild missions are done and being able to get rewarded for your participation, offer your services to switch over and help the guild complete them.

Maybe I should have titled my post Rise of the Mercs

i hope the new content is done smart and isnt “beatable” only with numbers of auto attack spammers.

It’s not.

Granted, there a bunch of different mission types and they all vary in difficulty. But given that this is guild content, we created some challenges that should hopefully require some decent coordination. And while the risen temple of Grenth is a fine example of very hard event, I think you’ll find that the guild content pressures you ways other than dealing lots of damage. A few missions haven’t even been completed by our internal testers yet (but they came extremely close).

That’s what I’m a bit curious about though… Let’s say a guild does a mission (of mid-level difficulty) and no other non-guildies show up to the event/include themselves. Is 10 guildies an ideal number, 40, 50, 100? Kind of curious how the threshold works here and what ArenaNet designed the ideal and/or minimum guild participation #’s around.

Edit Also I have to say I love that idea of a guild perk that reduces waypoint cost!

This is kind of a crazy question – You have 1700 hours of gameplay… in 5 1/2 months (roughly 3960 hours). That literally means for 5 1/2 months, you spent approx 43% of your time logged in playing primarily only 1/3 of the game (since you probably spent very little time in pvp and only got 500 badges in wvw). Honestly, kudos to you cause this is a great game and obviously you like it if you spent this much time on it. But if you spend almost all your time doing something, it’s going to become repetitive and eventually you will get bored (why do you think 50% of all marriages end in divorce? ). I doubt any game out there could keep up with your pace.

How much does it cost to level by crafting

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

docMed.7692

Bear in mind, leveling from 1-80 doing crafting isn’t really a great idea. Yes, you have a level 80 character, but you don’t know anything about it or how to make it work well for you and you don’t have any skillpoints or basic map exploration done. If you want to level though crafting, you might want to consider the following path:

Level 1-20: Play.
Level 20-40: Craft.
Level 40-60: Play.
Level 60-70: Craft.
Level 70-80: Play.

Just a suggestion… at least this way you’ve got enough exploration done, particularly of the endgame areas. You’ll have enough skill-points to get your skills setup nicely. You’ll know your class reasonably well.

This is the general method I use when leveling alts. The only additional thing I would toss in there is start with professions you don’t plan on using (e.g. You can switch free of charge to other professions, so max out something like cooking + a profession that you have tons of mats already banked from other chars on and then switch to your end-game professions for free – Saves a bit of money and lets you max out 4 prof’s easily).

Pretty sure I’ve found a cooking guide somewhere 1-400 for around 2g and 1k karma, or something like that.

Only way you could do that is maybe launch prices and pre-cooking leveling nerfs. Its still by far the cheapest profession to level though.

What's your favourite Jumping Puzzle?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

And before anyone rails at me for lacking skilz, I have Severe RA , deformed hands, and very impaired motor skills. I probably worked harder completing normal vistas than many of you did on the hardest puzzle. I finished all up to Dredgehaunt.. and that JP just ended it for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I expect my disability to gate me from certain things. But JP should be totally optional and not required for anything else.

I hear you. There are 3 kinds of players that have trouble with JPs: Those with poor coordination/timing/depth perception, those with disabilities, and those with poor connections. I think it’s extremely unhelpful to call names or slander those folks, and it’s specifically why we try to communicate the optional nature of jumping content. As I said above, we didn’t implement this perfectly, but I wouldn’t say we failed either. We’re working in a gray area of perceptions and opinions, so we’ll never find a balance that works for everyone.

I have to say I am a fan of your realistic approach to this topic on a candid level. Thanks and keep up the good work!

How to make the cosmetic grind better...

in Suggestions

Posted by: docMed.7692

docMed.7692

So we’ve seen recent changes that have made farming cursed shore easier, bots have been significantly removed, market prices in general on all items are moving up, etc, etc. Additionally, we are now being rewarded on a daily and monthly basis a new currency that can be used to purchase some cool and exciting new items.

At the moment, the grind for any of the awesome (Mystic Forge or Craftable) recipes is pretty extensive and to buy these items outright ranges from 45g to 700g (excluding legendaries of course, which are 2k to 5k). The main issue here is just simply the RNG nature of some items and of course the time it takes to actually just sit there and farm out specific drops from groupings of mobs. ArenaNet has done some cool things to spread out the aquisition of T6 materials including node farms, moldy bags, 40xT6 mat for some explorable map completitions, etc. However, if you really want to get 250xT6 mat like a lot of recipes require, you either have to farm the gold out for it or farm the item from the mob that most commonly drops it.

My suggestion is as follows: Include in the daily reward, or even just event completition, 1 random tier equivalent material for the tier event you complete. For example, completing an event in cursed shores would give a T6 mat, completing an event in a 70 zone would yield T5, etc, etc. This would definitely increase the market’s share of these materials, but still force a significant investment of time to grind the material out etc (basically its a suggestion to aleviate some of the time to grind these items out, not to mention when you miss tagging mobs in zerg-fest world events, you won’t feel quite as screwed!).

I understand there is some heated debate about this, but TP prices are becoming quite insane – I put probably 30 hours/week into this game and am calculating crafting a legendary in 2-3 months let alone if I decide to pick up any cool side items like a wall of the mists (which is 1000 orc ore + a few more mats).

So again – events = chance to give +1 random T6 mat, make it happen ANET! <3

There is a very simple explanation for this – and no, it is not a bug: You may find from time to time when you are downed that your pet has low health, in fact it may even be continuing to take damage from nearby enemies when you are downed. Now, when you call your pet to come rez you, it does not give the pet full health and consequently it may die right after you call it – appearing to have “failed”. As another poster pointed out, you still have entire control over your pets when you are downed and it is recommened to swap (if the cooldown is up), when you are downed in order to have a pet with full HP reviving you.

You can still go out there, farm the item, and get it yourself – ArenaNet has been trying to make the gap closer between those with legendaries and those unwilling to make the grind, this is probably just a step in that direction and I would bet if Anet does it once, they’ll do it again – so look for more opportunities in the future.

Clearly you don’t understand the mechanics of ranger pets/shortbow. Yes of course a warrior will be on you from time to time, but they are very easy to kite. Really doesn’t matter though as kiting isn’t very useful for a point control based game except for roaming scenarios.

You basically answered it yourself..

we are talking sPvP specifically.. a good warrior, like i’ve said a million times.. won’t be kited in sPvP, thus making your logic pretty flawed.

Obstacles
Snare Immunity

all these things make bow rangers useless… thus, warrior kicking your kitten

Nah, all the point control means is it simply can’t contest point as easily depending on your build and the warriors. Still very easy to kill.

Rangers are the bottom of the barrel currently, but maybe if every other profession was nerfed we would be ok. I’ve always been a firm believer that no class should ever 1 or 2 shot anyone. Long battles are far more enjoyable then 2 second fights, no class in the game should be critting for over 10k. If most classes have roughly 20k life why are there classes critting for 20-30k ? Bad design is bad.

If you are being 1shotted by a thief I’m afraid you are either using a terribly bad build or just doing it very wrong. Trap condi ranger is a STRONG counter against thieves.

Don’t you have another forum to troll ? Please point out where in my post at any point that thief was mentioned ? If your going to try and look whitty at least read the posts otherwise you just look like a complete kitten.

I actually feel like I’m the one being trolled here. Are you so bad that you get hit by kill shot? Is that honestly something you can complain about lol. Sure I’ll understand getting hit by a backstab combo once in awhile because you aren’t ready but kitten, even when I’m in battle because of the fov I can see a warrior kneeling from miles away and avoid that.

Not asuran warriors, much harder to know when they are kill shotting. I land kill shot via rifle butt and frenzy, so easy to get a kill shot off then.

kill shot focused / 100b focused builds are gimmicky, don’t know why people complain about them.

Have to agree – carrying any stun break and/or dmg immunity utilities (which is what any tpvp players would carry) negate these types of bursts quite well.

The TP is the same for all servers (e.g. every server shares/contributes to the same TP).

Oh, good to know. So it’s a waste of money for everyone, not just my server in particular.

Just dillutes your rep and the validity of your response when you can’t get basic facts about the game in order.

The fact that the TP is across all servers isn’t even that relevant. It wasn’t an essential detail, it changes nothing about my math or the fact that it’s cheaper to get commendation rewards by other means, like gem exchange.

As indicated in my previous post – it is relevant in whether or not I choose to blindly accept your calculations and/or pulled data.

Well if you can’t tell there is a large corp’s that hates pets. I myself avoided maximizing them for too long before working on how to utilize them. Once you accept the pet mechanic and work on integrating them warts and all there are some decent options.

Masters Bond people, it’s not just for PvE it works in Tpvp with high benefit. Thanks Durzlla for posting on that… I’m a tester and I had accepted the it’s a pve trait mantra. Wrong it’s even better in PvP I think.

Arguably 10 in beastmastery is a must. Doubt I’ll play another build without at least that. It really shines at 30 BM however. And if your delivering AOE damage you get to 25 stacks pretty fast. At which point you are a force of nature or your pet is.

Embrace the pet….You are balanced around it… And it has some pretty sweet options utility and damage.

Or embrace the traps….

Or I imagine in a shaman amulet build both is conceivable….

If you can’t embrace the pet or a pure condition build the class can be a bit frustrating ATM. I still can’t embrace condition something about SB 1 spam haste drop circles annoys me. Just don’t find playing it rewarding.

Class needs work and improvement but has some enjoyable options.

Agreed, people don’t know the sheer power of ravens. And don’t pet swap often enough / don’t know when to pet swap. Pet swap for the quickness short burst / to get your pet in range for it’s attacks. I’ve also noticed that spamming f2 right after pet swap activates the skill more efficiently.

Yep, all you have to do is just activate the skill when your pet is not doing of their spell cast rotations (like swiftness from owls, leap from wolves, etc).

So, on my server it costs about 2.23 gold to get 3 lvl71 exotic armor pieces and a donation wrapper, and on the CHANCE that that gives you 550 tokens, that’s about 1.96 Black Lion Keys.

2.23 gold —> 1.96 BLK

It currently costs 3.93 gold to get 5 BLKs via gem exchange.

3.93 gold —> 5 BLK

If you do the math, clearly it costs less gold per key when you just go with the 5-packs of BLKs for 450 gems.

The commendations are a waste of time and money.

Again, your post has been made by 100’s of users before you, including myself. Just serves no purpose to try and calm the forum storm by telling individuals they are wrong. We all agree the class is underpowered and even ArenaNet cites it as the most underpowered – Our efforts should be directed to receiving answers/corrections from ArenaNet – not QQ’ing at each other.

We all agree the ranger is underpowered – why are we having discussions on it to what degree they are? Fact is ArenaNet needs to actually start putting in place corrections they indicated long ago would be and these conversations that just go in circles (I’ve literally seen hundreds of these threads) are pointless. Read the archive of posts.

30K? What class is critting for 30K? lol…

Warrior Rifle Kill Shot, checkout you tube some time theres plenty of clips on it.

You mean the video where the warrior preys on squishy people who are not level 80 and not geared? WOW AMAZING!! Are you also talking about the attack that is basically useless in actual pvp?

Have to agree here – trying to use anything relating to balance issues outside of spvp is quite ridiculous.
