Reading some of the stuff that Colin and other developers mention regarding ascended gear and the “reward system” in this game…it seriously makes me wonder if they even speak to Mike O’Brien, the President….the dude who had that big manifesto before the game was made. Is there ANY communication? Is he locked in a dungeon never to be heard from again?

Or, as someone else pointed out, was the manifesto just PR bullkitten?

I wonder the same myself. If the game was the success they wanted or greater, my guess is the team has full reign to do what they want to do, there are Ferrari’s that need to be driven! (Or are one of those F2P owners/investors really flexing?)

As for the manifesto. If there was ever to be a GW3, I would suggest not attempting a Manifesto as the game promotion, the old saying “Fool me…”.

For any other game Anet ever develops (be it GW3 or some new game), if I ever see anything titled a “Manifesto” during development I’m going to laugh (and cry) so hard it’s not funny. I totally agree with you. They just can’t try it again because I can’t see how anyone could take them seriously. I can barely take them seriously now whenever they talk about overall big picture plans for the game.

Our reward systems need to be exciting and include things you want to earn over time, but we don’t want to force our players on endless gear treadmills for new tiers of gear we add every six months.

You won’t see another tier between ascended and legendary in 2013, for example. Our goal will be to use our existing reward systems and build new ones that are fun and exciting that step away from the stale gear grind reward systems you see elsewhere.

I don’t see the implication that they’re adding more in the future. They just used the example that no more are coming this year and said they don’t want to force players onto endless gear treadmills. They used the time examples to indicate the difference that Guild Wars 2 has with other MMO’s of similar design.

Just ‘reward system’ says enough, Guildwars 2 no longer is a game were playing is a reward in itself.

The idea that they don’t want to make “Grindy games” is a joke…they are now clearly in the business of “grindy games” because the longer the grind, the more people continue to play. The more people continue to play, the more money they get.

The concept that putting in hours of a grind would ONLY net you a visual difference, and not a state difference, is sadly long gone. There is really no way to look at the situation other than to accept that they COMPLETELY 180’ed on that aspect of their “manifesto”.

Have to say I’m rather interested to see how this week will turn out. Normally we lost the weekends to Kain then took over for the rest of the week, so it is odd to see us ahead this early, but I’m sure the weekly turnout will be different than T2. Also, Hate being red, we have been green for too long and its throwing me off. I keep looking for enemies when taking supply camps thinking someone walked in >.<

Red is the worst since it has the universal connotation implying “stop”, so your mind instantly makes you think when the ring is red it’s NOTworking. Very annoying.

If my memory serves last time BG was in Tier 1 you guys did very well on weekends right? I think I remember you guys having a pretty good lead coming into Monday.

I’m usually around for resets (I miss like 1 in maybe 5). I’ve never had issues. Tonight I’ve crashed 3 times in ~20 minutes. Even when I’m in everyone is rubber-banding like crazy and it’s incredibly laggy. My internet outside of GW2 is just fine, nothing going on (and no downloads).

I’m on JQ< which I know is busy but still…never had connection problems like this before. Anyone else?

It’s the people who wanted Guild Wars 2 to be Guild Wars 1 just with better graphics, happens a lot when a sequel for a famous game is released.

I think that is an oversimplification. First off, I think certain people want/expected different things to carry over from GW.

To me, what I was expecting from a sequel to GW1 was:

1. Skill-focused system – One of the things that for me made GW1 truly unique. Yes it was a pain to balance,and yes many skills were redundant but it was awesome being able to explore and unlock so many skills, and yet be limited to a small set in battle. Add to that (I would almost make this a separate section it was so amazing) the elite skill system was INCREDIBLY fun…hunting down monsters for your skills. And monsters that just didn’t appear in the exact same place every 3 hours like the “Meta events” in this game

2. Great PvP – Not just the SAME as GW1, an evolution of it. Guild battles were fun but I loved when I heard they were planning WvW. On this they mostly delivered what I expected. What I got when I bought GW2 was quite good. The only place they really fall short in this avenue is how little was done AFTER release. The base they released with was good 6 months ago, but the fact that the only changes we’ve seen have been the removal of features (orbs, yak events etc…) has just be crazy

3. No gear hunt – Probably one of the biggest things for me. I don’t play WoW or any game like it because I will NEVER grind dungeons. I will do a dungeon once and I am perfectly content never doing it again. Perhaps rarely if friends want to run it, but only to hang out with friends…The idea of repeating a scripted dungeon scenario 100 times for the next “tier” of armor is something I am incredibly opposed to. GW1 was incredibly because it wasn’t about gear. Yes there were unique looks you could collect, but it never made you better than anyone else. This was one of the BIGGEST things that they ADVERTISED about GW2. Mike O’Brien made the now famous quote about it (a part of which should be in my signature). It was made ABSOLUTELY CLEAR that if a person wanted to spend hours running a dungeon their gear would be differentiated SOLELY by looks. It was spelled out PERFECTLY. Absolutely no way to interpret any other way. Yet, they clearly and almost equally perfectly went in the exact opposite direction…where we are now.

4. Continuation of the story – They got that just fine. It’s a minor point for me

In any case: To sum up I would say the expectation was to have a game in the SPIRIT of GW1, that is a skill-driven game with very little vertical progression (quick to max level, quick to best armor) and all about horizontal progression. Also a game with great PvP (both large and small scenarios). This has not been produced, in my opinion.

I haven’t “trusted” them since they went back on pretty much every description Mike O’Brien gave for this game prior to it’s release. They turned what was supposed to be the end of “Grindy games” into a grind…and each patch seems to add some new grind with new vertical gear.

I don’t know if I should be blaming the developers for this, or Mike O’Brien for just flat out lying in the first place. Perhaps it was never their plan and he was just filling the room with hot air? So maybe my lack of trust should be focused on a singular person, but since we haven’t had really any information about where their “grand design” for the game fell through, I have to continue to question the developers as a whole.

I’m playing this game currently because there isn’t another game out there that has close to what i’m looking for (WvW). As soon as that changes (Perhaps TESO, perhaps Archeage), unfortunately Anet lost whatever loyalty I had for them after GW1. I’ve said it in other threads before….this game is the sequel to GW in name and story ONLY.

You do realize there’s a difference between the numbers needed to take them down and the numbers of people wanting a piece of the action, yes?

Please do explain how a picture of 20 people on your corpse tells us that 20 people are NECESSARY to produce your corpse. You have a picture showing an association. Heck you could have kill yourself for all we know from the picture.

How exactly does that picture show the number NEEDED to take down 2 people? Just because 20 people are on top of your corpse doesn’t mean they needed 20 people…it’s just that all 20 people wanted a piece if you so they could get badges.

you can release to spawn point and any bags that drop after releasing will actually appear at your feet. Had a massive 3 way fight yesterday, and after I was dead I stayed to watch the end of the fight. Had probably 20 bags taunting me lol. If I had released probably would have gotten half of them at least at spawn point. truthfully was more fun watchng the fight

Was this added with the new patch, because I have had multiple bags inches from my body (on many occasions), released immediately and have never had my loot follow me back to spawn…ever.

It doesn’t follow you back. What he means is that if you respawn and then at spawn you get xp for an enemy you damaged before respawning, the loot bag will drop at spawn.

So if you were in a huge battle, damaged a lot of people, die and then port back to spawn, you may get some more loot bags appearing at spawn as the battle finishes up. It’s a gamble though, as others have suggested, because if your team won the battle they would have rezzed you and you would have been able to loot all your bags.

You have to be there the moment of reset and click the join button very very quickly.

I wasn’t here for last week’s reset, but I remember the week before there was a queue within 2 or 3 seconds of people saying “Join now” on Teamspeak. It was crazy.

Indeed, legendary are supposed to be hard to get. For somebody who does no PvP or WvW it would take them 50 days worth of doing that JP to get the badges they need, provided they did the puzzle every single day. I’d say that’s pretty time consuming wouldn’t you?

As for siege being expensive, you’re right. But it’s also soulbound. And again, somebody not interested in WvW is not going to use them and they will be unable to give them to somebody else.

As for the gear, umm, well that’s not really anything valid to bring up as there’s jumping puzzles all over the game you can farm gear out of easily. Nobody does the EB jumping puzzle for gear. They do it for the badges (and the WvW’ers for the siege too).

Also, please don’t mistake me for the original poster. I’m not crying. I’m merely agreeing with him. But it’s funny that everybody calls it crying and QQing.

If you want to see some crying just search Youtube for people who’ve had their WoW accounts hacked. That’s crying.

And your definition of “free run” doesn’t apply to jumping puzzles. Again, they’re all over the place and easily farmed. There’s no “run” involved because nobody can pull you through a jump puzzle if you suck and just can’t make the jumps.

A mesmer can portal you all the way to the top (takes two portals). That is a free run. It happens ALL the time.

Also, I don’t even want to start with how long a “WvW Player” would have to do PvE content to acquire their legendary. The whole point is to involve yourself in all aspects of the game to acquire the legendary item, the legendary item isn’t a “PvE-only” item, it’s a “Game-wide” item. If you ask me I think the JP SHOULDN"T give you any badges, and you should have to get out there and fight to earn your legendary weapon.

I also, for the record, think that portals should be banned from the JP. I also think /laugh should be deactivated in WvW.

While i would be all for auto-looting straight into your inventory, as long as they continue to make it the traditional loot system it just doesn’t make sense to loot when you are dead. You can’t loot enemies when you die in PvE. Why should you be able to in WvW?

If they don’t want auto-loot, they should just make badges a currency like laurels that is just managed by the game, instead of having stacks of them in your bank. That way there can be a “chance” for badge reward on kill, instead of having to loot at all for them. They are really the only things worth looting in WvW anyway. The odds of getting anything else useful in WvW (like an exotic) is slim to none (I know I haven’t had an exotic drop in WvW since November, and I maybe get 1 rare per week).

They are not completely invincible against an organized group.

If they are immune to conditions and immune to damage i wonder how your “organized group” can kill it, since you can no longer stack vulnerability to damage him.

A zerg can still kill them in about two minutes.

Spam light fields and blast finishers. Retribution hurts him.
It’s kind of funny how hard they are having making him truly invisible. Failed twice in a row lol.
I say he should be truly invincible for the timer.

That is one way to kill him, but there is another more effective way which will kill him in about 30 secs, don’t wanna spoil the fun of you guys finding out :P

At this point we all know that the supervisor is INTENDED to be invincible. Anyone abusing a mechanic (retribution or otherwise) is exploiting a bug in the intended design. Now granted it is difficult to keep everyone from doing so, but then unless you can guarantee that you and whoever else knows your “secret” isn’t using it, you are exploiting even worse by keeping the advantage to yourself. At least if we spread the exploit around everyone has an equal opportunity and things are fair

Determined buff for 5min is the way to go… Dunno why they aren’t using this buff in the first place…

Honestly these sorts of situations are incredibly embarrassing for them. They can’t even correctly buff an NPC to make him invincible. They tried twice, and failed. 24 hours on a public test server would have picked up that retribution still worked. I don’t know who they have internally testing but they aren’t very creative.

Needs to be widened. How boring would it be if everyone had everything, everyone was the same?

You see the picture? Those are multiple sets of armor over the various campaigns and expansions. Some were considered more prestigious than others. Given they all had the same power level, I could [and did] swap back and forth freely based on mood and build requirements. It was fun. Nothing in there was particularly exclusive or incredibly out of reach. Nothing was unattainable. In fact, we helped each other get them. It wasn’t boring at all. We let our playstyles, personalities, and skills speak on our behalves, not some vain desire to look down our noses at the have-nots. Those days may be well and over, but everyone having something is always better than someone having everything.

Don’t remind me of the good old days. It just makes me realize how far the apple has fallen from the tree. GW2 is shaping up to be the sequel to GW in nothing but name (and storyline).

Mithril ore and the equivalent logs are used to upgrade siege to superior. I use my WvW mats for that all the time. The leather I don’t know … But maybe it’s tier associated to get the mithril, it has to be for all mats?

So is the tier we get in drops based on the enemy’s true level? Or did they set it up just so we get a lot of mithril ore for upgrades?

What decides the level of loot dropped by enemies? I seem to get a ton of mithril ore and similar level leather. Why is that? Am I fighting people in the “mithril ore level range”? I’m level 80, my enemies are scaled to level 80. Why do I get low tier resources?

If I were to fight in Orr I don’t believe I would be picking up a bunch of mithril ore from enemies. Why in WvW?

I’m getting a little bored with always winning.

JQ has 7 match wins since week 40 (Oct 6 – Oct 13). The server with the most match wins over that same time frame has double that (14 wins), including a string of 11 wins in a row. So …. bored? Okay.

The 24hr resets don’t count and if I’m not mistaken those other servers dropped all the way down to t6/7 JQ on the other hand has been in T1 since who the hell remembers and has only dropped to t2 for maybe 3 weeks (cit needed)even before all the transfers we were the most competitive longest lasting server ever in t1. Its like nascar you don’t have to win any races to win the championship all you need to do is place in the top 5 consistently.

We’ve been in the 1 week match format since week 38 I think it is, but week 40 is the first week millenium started recording score data, so that’s what I started with.

But don’t take my comments at some kind of shot at JQ. I know full well that total wins has no bearing at all on how good a server is in this game. JQ has been in T1 longer than any other server, regardless of wins, which is a massive accomplishment and arguable makes JQ the most successful server in WvW to date.

My point was to illustrate how it’s a bit silly (in my opinion) to say you’re bored of winning after 4 wins in a row and 7 since October (depending on how long you’ve been on the server). Then again, it HAS been 2-3 weeks of blowouts basically, and everyone has their own limits when it comes to that and boredom overall.

I think saying we are bored of winning is about as silly as people from the guilds that quit SoS saying they are sick of losing. We lost to them week after week for I don’t even remember how long. We didn’t jump ship. They lose for what, 2 weeks? (I don’t count this week since they already started transferring) and suddenly they can’t handle it? That’s laughable, in my opinion.

To the people commenting on badge drop rates:

Keep in mind this latest patch fairly significantly increased drop rates. Not say the prices won’t be extremely high, but I would just give it a few days to adjust to the NEW rate of badge acquisition before you think about what may be reasonable for gear. Yes it would be great to spend the badges i’ve saved and get all the new gear as soon as it’s out, but keep in mind that so far as they have introduced gear people have had to start grinding moving forward. We have an advantage because we have “saved” badges, but that shouldnt’ get us everything instantly.

To be honest, it makes sense and is really only “fair”

The PvE experience has had a monopoly on the ENTIRE jewelry set of ascended gear. Why not let WVW have a monopoly on the weapons for a few months? If a PvE complains they can just say “We’re working on it”, like they did to us.

We are planning to add more stat sets and appearance options that can be purchased with badges in the March update. We’re still working on the full list so I don’t want to dive into details yet, but it is something we’re working on.

I don’t see why you can’t say whether or not ascended gear will be on the list.

If it’s not, I think you guys are going to have a VERY hard time explaining why at this point.

Is this something only visible to you or to other players as well? It should just be a display issue; if you relog, it should display correctly.

On another note, if you know how to consistently cause this issue to occur, we’d be very interested in hearing about it. Thanks, and I hope this helps!

I had guildmates in TS. Some of us were in one version of SoS, others were in another. We were in the same party.

On the map our blue dots appeared, but when we met up we couldn’t see each other. In one version we owned Bay with a waypoint. In the other, SoR took Bay. In my version we took garrison, in their version it was still SoR’s. Oh I’ll also add we couldn’t see each other’s team chat. Though we could talk in party chat.

They were completley different. The score ticks were different. After 15 minutes the TOTAL score was different.

EDIT: It might be fixed now. For awhile when I asked someone in my guild who was in LA what the score was, the CURRENT ticks were different than the ones I saw.

Not sure if this is all servers, but JQ currently has multiple versions of the borderlands going, with different total scores and different ticks. Difficult to tell which one is real.

Please fix!

On JQ there is somehow two versions of at least the SoS map going right now. I have guildmates in one version where Bay was just taken. In our version, we are taking garrison.

We have two different score tics. But it still says JQ/SoS/SoR for all of us. Our blue dots are on the map, but we can’t see each other.

Loot bags, loot bags everywhere!

Hey all,

We made some very intentional changes to the way we calculate loot. One of the effects of this change is that there is more loot dropping in WvW. Yay! Increasing the loot in WvW was one of our goals and we’re glad that it’s making some of you happy. Also, just to be sure that we were comfortable with the impact it had on loot in WvW we had our economist do some analysis of the drop rates in WvW after this patch. After looking at his results we’re still comfortable with the changes. On a personal note, I was very happy to get a much better badge drop rate when I played yesterday

Tl;dr: it’s not a bug, enjoy the loot!

I haven’t played in WvW extensively since the patch, but I can’t even fathom a situation where the loot drops would increase in WvW to the point where it would be unreasonable. So I’m glad to hear the “economist” said it was okay. In my mind you could increase loot drops by 400% (pre-patch) and would still not even come close to dungeon-runners/PvE’ers.

Very true but I’m sure just like me we will not forget or forgive so easily if by the next patch our concerns are still not dealt with. I know I had only considered this game to be my home but with the continual smack in the face of WvW/RvR community I am now eager to see what Elder Scrolls can do.

If you like WvW, I hope you’ve checked out ArcheAge as well. They have some pretty awesome looking siege engines in their battlefields

I agree, the numbers are arbitrary but when they’re close it feels like you can have an impact. Your effort and performance will just slightly contribute to the collective efforts of your server, and if that slight change is the difference between victory and defeat then it’s hard not to take some sense of accomplishment away from it. Really the problem lies in the fact we’re taking hardcore guilds and putting them in a game designed for a casual playerbase. As such, the spirit of competitiveness that resides in these hardcore guilds try to find some sense of purpose in the game. For guilds like VoTF, RG and a lot of the euro’s, this comes down to open field tactics. For some guilds, it comes down to being able to assualt heavily defended keeps. For the majority of other guilds there, ours included, it is a mix of these things. The PPT is a horrible thing to put onto the stress of these players, but without it there literally exists no balance between these spectrum. Without that balance, a lot of guilds are in shambles as why to play.

As for JQ’s population I’m going to avoid this topic because I believe the horse has been beaten out of existence when it comes to opinions on the matter. I just hope that our decision to move to BG will bring people from all tier 1 servers out to play regardless of score. Morale is helluva drug.

I believe that is well said, I do ultimately agree in the end if the move means WvW is more active in Tier 1, then I welcome it. I just logged into the JQ TS to find every single borderland/EB chatroom empty….and most people who are logged in are in “Dungeon” or “PvE” channels of each guild.

It’s insane how much the WvW community gets forgotten in this game. I thought this was suppose to be the shinning part of meta end game….. but we still have no viable way to earn money in WvW due to expensive upgrades and armor fix. Still have culling, still no orbs. Outmanned buff is absolutely pointless. Oh and no way to acquire BIS ascended. Hmm I think it is time for them to give a whole lot more care to this part of the community!

To be honest I think they sat down and discussed the different types of players they are, and the other games that offer competition. I think they decided/realized that they could shaft/ignore the active WvW-type players far longer than the dungeon grinders who jump from game to game, so they focused on the dungeon grinders first since there are always new shiny games for them to play.

I mean if there was a game that offered a similar WvW experience out there right now (that was released within a reasonable amount of time, I realize I could always go back to DAoC), I would be gone in an instant. I’m sure many others would be. If a game like ArcheAge or similar that promises large battlefield-style PvP was available as competition, I think they would get off their kitten a bit quicker and get to work. As it is now, they figure they can add a couple bug fixes each month, and push back the “WvW Patch” another month since most of us (WvWers) aren’t going anywhere yet.

Replacing All Dugeon Tokens with Laurels

Have the devs considered completely removing all dungeon tokens from the game and replacing them with Laurels?

- Each dungeon path grants 1 Laurel per day (story mode included).

- All dungeon gear requires 1 or 2 laurel to purchase.

This change might lead to significant population decrease in WvW, since it highly encourages dungeon runs. Note that running the same path the same day will not give additional laurel.

Don’t worry about WvW. The game already highly encourages people to do things other than WvW.

It’s a decent suggestion. As it stands there are WAY too many currency items. Laurels, fractal whatevers, each dungeon’s tokens, guild mission credits, badges, karma, gold. It’s getting a little crazy.

In a year we shall have our gear!

that should be the thread subject, as its the only legitimate claim people can make concerning ascended stuff.

I made a thread earlier today suggesting that when they release ascended armor, or ascended weapons (whichever comes first), they make it “WvW exclusive” for a few months, just like this stuff continues to be PvE exclusive.

I like the 25 sword change.

IMO, it works like this:

1. Swords on the map are good for complete 100% casual random players that want to look for some action. A 25-player fight is a good destination for that player.

Unless of course those swords indicate 25 enemies fighting a moa bird…

That would not be a great place to go for a casual random player…

A quick browse of Karp’s post history would indicate that he never posted that. Which sounds about right; Whilst fights are usually the peaks of fun, it feels hollow if there is no purpose to winning (or losing).

I always forget that you can click on someone and look at their post history.

There technically isn’t much “purpose” to winning or losing as it is though. As long as you stay in Tier 1, what really changes being number 1 or number 2? Honestly I couldn’t have cared less that we (JQ) were Number 2/3 for weeks in a row against SoS. If we were winning and they were number 2, it would have been the same fights so who cares? If the game implemented and actual reason to win, maybe things would change.

As it is though, fights are really ALL there is, so if someone wants to state that when they are online they have good fights (as evidenced by logging off with a positive point tick, as he described), what is the problem with logging back on 12 hours later to find a score deficit? Just gives you more things to take back/fight over.

Now if he wanted to argue that JQ was just so populous that even when he WAS online there was no purpose to fighting just because SoS has nobody and JQ was a huge sea of people…I could understand his reason for leaving. But he didn’t say that. He indicated he was “sick” of being on SoS because when he logs back in the next day he is losing in points.

I wouldn’t like this because after the transfer cost I’m stuck in this server. I’m not going to pay to transfer. although were quite decent in w3 some of the w3 guilds just really bugs me sometimes. with the communist attitude. I’m forced to play with them or go solo. would much rather have this as a reward from dungeons.

The point is you already have rewards from dungeons. Why can’t we have some of the rewards as well?

This would be a VERY bad move IMO and that’s coming from someone who spends most of their time in WvW. GW2 is by and large a PvE game, say what you want, but it is. Just look at all the dev focus so far…PvE this or that, with minor changes to sPvP or WvW.

Flat out adding a HUGE stat increase(don’t smirk, ascended acc. are a big increase, all armor…HUGE increase) from something that is not a “core” part of the game…would KILL a large population.

Casual players are already complaining about the current “grind”, how do you think they would respond to a move like this? On top of that, I’ve seen MANY a WvW player complain about people doing “PvE in WvW” aka jumping puzzles. Imagine the complaints when Timmy says in /t “Hey guys, I just need to do my 50 badges daily for my ascended gear, where can I grind some kills?”…

Think about what you’re wishing for OP…I guarantee you it isn’t what you want.

Ultimately all I care about is to be able to obtain the Best in Slot items by playing the game the way I want to play (which is, like you, almost entirely WvW).

While yes they have stated it’s coming, I’m not holding my breath. 4 months and not a single piece of ascended gear has been added to WvW. In that amount of time they have ADDED more ascended gear, that continues to be unavailable. If the update next month doesn’t give us access to ALL of the ascended jewelry, but only one, then at the rate they are going we will always been behind other people by a good half year at least.

It seems clear to me that they DON"T want to allow us to obtain best in slot gear however we want to play. It seems clear they want to encourage people to play ALL aspects of the game. They have been doing that by releasing different types of ascended gear to different game areas (while also having them on the laurel vendor as the secondary alternative to each). If that is the path they want to take, I can’t change them. I am merely asking them to INCLUDE us at least a little bit in that path. Don’t encourage people to play “All avenues of the game”, except PvP. That will kill WvW far more than adding the gear into WvW will, in my opinion.

If each piece required hundreds of badges, people wouldn’t be able to just hop into EB, ask for 15 minutes, get it and go. They would actually have to be active participants in WvW. Yes the JP provides badges, but to be honest I think we would all be better off if they removed them from WvW (or at least removed the badge reward). People don’t actually “do” the jumping puzzles these days anyway, they just whine for a mesmer.

In any case. Yes my ultimate goal is to just be able to play the game the way I would like (WvW), and still know that I’m not using inferior gear to people who play the game another way. That is in keeping with the design of this game from the very beginning, there are multiple quotes stating that was their goal. If they really have no intention of reaching that goal, then my “secondary goal” is to AT LEAST give WvW a slice of the pie, just one freakin slice.

Accessories are there, they just cost a TRUCKLOAD of laurels, and ectos. 40 Laurels and 50 ectos each.

Okay so they can stay consistent with that.

Introduce the first two ascended pieces of armor into WvW. Make them available at laurel vendors for a lot of laurels and ectos.

That way we will have Fractals with some gear, Guild Missions with some gear, WvW with some gear. Makes sense.

Of course it’ll be something like that. But why put all ascended armor at once? Here is the breakdown on activities to get ascended items :

- ring = fractals
- amulet = dailies
- earring = guild PvE zerging

And the future will give us :
- boots = WvW. You need good shoes cause you walk all other the place you see

- pants = sPvP (it’ll only take 2 months to fix the bug where sPvPers cannot move the pants they bought in the mists to the PvE world to make use it, don’t worry)

- gloves = AFKing in town. Accumulate only 30 days worth of total inactivity in town.

- pauldrons = chat. Get the pair you want after you send 50 MB worth of text in the map chat in Lion’s Arch

- helm = monster slayer. 10000 solo kills to get one. 20000 more for the next, then 30000 etc…

- chest = dungeon armor collection. To reward players dedicated to getting all the nice dungeon skins in the game. Just throw in the mystic forge one of each exotic dungeon armor part to get it. Please note that for prestige reasons, the ascended armor is ugly and cannot be reskined and comes only in a single look for all races and stats

- weapons = RP. Once per month ANet will organize a big RP contest and select judges picked from the hardcore RP community will be rating your performance. Top performers can get one weapon each.

Rings/amulets etc are minor items that can easily be added for ascended gear. And thats why thats what we are getting.

I have a VERY VERY hard to believing that they won’t extend the ascended gear into armor and weapons. Ascended gear is an entire new tier, nothing really suggests otherwise.

Just like there have been rumors (and perhaps some small comments) regarding the future of legendaries, and how there will likely be legendary armor as well in the future.

Think for a second ok, what happens to all the legendary gear at 1k+ gold if Ascended weapons come out? They tank in price that what.

That kills gem purchases, which kills Anet profits, which kills the game as a revinue stream, and then kills the game. Added to that is everyone who had legendary/exotics would now be totaly kitten taht they uber gear they have is now essentially worthless
and you have a massive drop in the playerbase which again kills gem purchases, yada yada.

Rings and the like are fine to do, because they are non viewable “extra” items that are generally attainable for everyone with a bit of effort.

Why would ascended weapons tank legendary prices? The legendary weapons would match the ascended weapons in stats, and would still be just as rare and difficult to obtain as they were before ascended weapons were released.

A legendary weapon isn’t expensive right now because it is better than an exotic weapon. It has the same stats. That wouldn’t change with ascended weapons, they would just bump the stats of the legendary to match.

You want this game to die due to pride of wwwers?
They did a wrong thing keeping ascended items out of www making www players unhappy and now you want your Revenge making pve players angry too?

I ll tell you a thing

PvE players while the mayority suffers constantly the “balancing” for www that makes pve the most unbalanced part of the game.

It’s not due to pride. It’s to further the path they are taking now. They are releasing every new type of ascended gear via some different aspect of the game. It is my understanding you can only get the accessories through guild missions.

Why not? I’m not saying FOREVER. I’m just saying for a limited time, as it is now.

And we aren’t talking about skill balances. That is off topic, so if you want to discuss that make a new thread.

EDIT:

If somebody wants a full set of “Best in Slot” gear, they should diversify their playstyle. Grind fractals, grind daillies, grind guild missions AND grind WvW. Sounds 100% reasonable. Why leave WvW out?

WvW will have an ascended item, that’s the path they’ve been going. They are trying to spread ascended a crossed all the types of gameplay and WvW is probably next. The issue though is that the outcry will be huge, especially if it’s weapons. What arenanet needs to do is just make all ascended gear available through ALL means; karma, badges, tokens, fractals, etc. Then people could play the way they wanted, but ArenaNet would rather drive players off instead of let them get gear the way they prefer to play.

In the perfect world of course, but if you look at what they’ve been doing they aren’t going down that path. They release accessories and make them exclusive to guild missions. Why not add them to the fractals and dailies at the same time? They clearly want to encourage people to do multiple kinds of activities. WHy not encourage WvW?

2. We chose BG because of the even coverage they had, we were getting burnt out and tired of pushing hard every night in Oceanic / SEA timeslot going from 3pm till 2-3am (GMT+8) only to log out 10k up knowing FoO & JQ’s Euros would pvdoor and turn our 10k gain into 10-20k deficit when we logged in in the morning.

3. SoS simply did not have the guilds and coverage to compete in T1 anymore (I know this is a surprise for most who will say NO SOS’S COVERAGE WAS INSANE) our coverage and success was based on really dedicated guilds such as MERC, AoI, TySM, Agg, FoE & insane players like Amarathy, Patone, Kurthos and Jedahs pulling ridiculous hours and rallying people through our “offpeak” timezone to maintain a steady ppt during (people will say they all have done the same thing but really? I doubt that you were ever on Patone or Kurthos’s level), These people have become burnt out and quit / stopped going as hard. VoTF was our only EU and as amazing as this 108 man guild is they could not hold off JQ’s onslaught across all 4 maps.

If so, those two statements above don’t really jive with that. Especially number 2. You make it clear that when you are on and playing hard you can win, and have a positive point tick above JQ (you state you leave with a point surplus). Your complaint is that when you log on your have a point deficit. But that has nothing to do with fights to be had. If you don’t care about points, you log on and just fight the good fight regardless.

Same goes for point 3. You guys don’t need to pull long hours and “double shifts” or whatever if all you care about are the fights. Fighting an overpopulated enemy is AWESOME if you are looking for fights, because it means YOU are never PvDooring. Who cares if your opponent PvDoors? That is their problem, but you know that whenever YOU are online there are only enemies to fight.

Really, for a true lover of WvW wouldn’t the BEST situation be the outnumbered server? The server that will never win, but will always have an enemy to fight because the leading server has people covering all time zones? You make it clear in Statement Two that when you are online you are competitive, you can produce a positive point tick. Shouldn’t that be all that matters?

Again, if you aren’t one of the people who said you “play for the fights” then disregard the post.

I think this is the direction they should go. It only makes sense. Our ascended accessories are all in, and they remain exclusive to the PvE crowd. It encourages you to play the PvE part of the game. They need something to encourage people to play the other part of the game, WvW.

Since Ascended Armor isn’t really a question of “if”, just “when”, I think they should plan on releasing them slowly in WvW. During that time they can say that they are “working on adding it to other parts of the game”. Having ascended armor released in WvW will encourage people to populate the battlefields, and not just so they can whine in map chat about that one tower they want everyone to cap for them to complete their world completion. Make it require something like badges, so they actually have to participate.

This would further diversify the areas of the game that everyone plays in. They want people to take part in multiple aspects of the game, this would do just that.

Of course if you’ve noticed part of my post is made in jest (such as the “working on adding it to other parts of the game”, etc….). However, I am in many ways being completely serious. Why shouldn’t they give WvW exclusive equipment that is “Best in Slot”? At least temporarily. It’s only fair.

Now if people want to bring up how ascended gear is for more agony, which is only used in fractals. Well, if ascended gear was for only agony, it would have the stats of an exotic with just agony thrown on. So clearly ascended gear’s purpose is NOT purely agony resistance, so don’t pretend it is.

Anyway, any reasonable reasons why this shouldn’t happen? It fits with the direction they are taking the game, where they encourage people to grind multiple aspects of the game (laurels, fractals, guild missions, next WvW).

In a year we shall have our gear!

If you want to spent months earning gear it should be distinguished by LOOKS, not stats. He made that very very clear, just nobody in his team is listening to him. He must be locked in the basement somewhere.
