Armor/Outfit revelation today

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

dsslive.8473

Dont really understand the hate on outfits, they have their purpose and they’re pretty cool to get some looks on your chartacters you might not otherwise be able to get due to armor restrictions. Not to mention the free-of-transmutation swapping between outfits is great for leveling alts.

I love mix-matching armor, all my characters have a mixed set that i took time to find the right combo with, but that doesnt mean outfits shouldnt be ingame , just because you can’t use them to mix and match, i think armor being now ingame reward only will be a very nice change, no more need to save for gems to get that armor piece to perfect the right look

Obviously they’ll push out outfits more often than armors and i ahve zero problems with that at all. I do hope that as time goes by they do put out a bit more armors than they did during the last living world seasons, but they wont match the output of outfits. And i’m perfectly fine with that

So far this change is rly awesome for me.

Is it wise to rebuild LA after our defeat?

dsslive.8473

Well to be fair, the world of tyria right now is bit frozen in time, as in, hot will follow directly upon the ending of season 2, so until then the news of the pact being completely destroyed by mordremoth hasnt reached anyone yet.

My guess is that the rebuilding of LA is happening somewhere alongside season 2, the city ahving been frozen in time for awhile now catching up while the sw and living story is frozen now.

Also, LA was a warzone, mordremoth hasnt put any real focus on LA aside from a waypoint being destroyed. LA is still an important city so even during a war , in moments where the destruction has passed and its relatively calmed down (in that area) its a good idea to build defenses and bolster the city for possible future attacks.

But the cheese is still there.

It’s just not a cheese factory.

People for some reason saw beta test and thought " Oh look we get to preview the entire expansion for a day"

No one even gave a hint as to the duration, just the test.
If you farmed for hours to get into the beta, congrats.
You decided to spend 40+ hours of your life to help test something for free.

It’s no one else’s fault but yours you decided to waste that time, and its also your fault you assumed testing durations and dates.

Instead of trying to mask the thread as a " It’s your fault I farmed for a 6 hour test"
Why not instead place the blame on the person that’s ACTUALLY responsible?

Lastly,
Some people farmed for days, and didn’t get a portal
Some people wont be able to make the test at all and
Some people didn’t luck out and get the email either.

Why not be thankful you get to actually have a small window to see what others are denied because of your heaven sent good luck?

But the cheese wasn’t taken away. Somewhere along the way the mouse thought there would be a whole platter of cheese instead of the small block, the same size block (well actually a little bit bigger) that was there the previous times the mouse ran through the maze.

I’m sure a bigger beta would have been awesome, but you can’t fault someone for your own assumptions. It’s not the people who put the mouse in the maze their fault that somewhere along the road that little mouse expected a platter instead of the small block of cheese it will get.

Both of you missed the point entirely. It’s not about the cheese, it’s about the fact that when you make a habit of something that people become accustomed to, and then suddenly break that habit, everything comes to a screeching halt and people are left wondering why they weren’t given fair warning that change was coming.

The previous event was referred to as a “stress test”. This one was referred to as a “beta”. The last time we had a “beta” was pre-release, and those lasted for entire weekends. Yes, people chose to farm for portals, but they have every right to be upset that they dedicated their time to a lost cause because they were purposefully left in the dark.

actually thats not true. the only thing that ahs been reffered to as a stress test was the wvw one, the previous closed beta (stress test) was referred to as a closed beta

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/upcoming-heart-of-thorns-closed-beta-tests/

So yes, it was reffered to as a beta, same as this event.

This is volunteer work, and all you have to do is log on and go through the zone.
No one is forcing you to test, and no one forced anyone to farm.

You farmed because you wanted to

If you train a mouse to navigate a maze for the cheese at the end, and then take away the cheese, the mouse will still run the maze under the assumption that the reward is there. Technically, the mouse is choosing to participate, but it’s going to be very disappointed when it finds out that there is no cheese at the end.

But the cheese wasn’t taken away. Somewhere along the way the mouse thought there would be a whole platter of cheese instead of the small block, the same size block (well actually a little bit bigger) that was there the previous times the mouse ran through the maze.

What Anet pulled was very shady.

I love how people work themselves up with a complete fantasy of their own creation and when others don’t live up to those delusions its “shady”.

How long have the beta tests been up to this point? A couple of hours for the stress tests and 24 hours for the sPvP map. In that light do you see ANYTHING inconsistent about this next window and past practices?

How many of those have incentivized you into them by trying to get you to earn an item for entry?
When you do it that way, you basically set the beta up as a more of a preview/reward than a standard test, yet what they’re providing doesn’t really feel like a reward anymore.

Isnt this kinda exactly what Nike is saying though? you assumed something would be one way using your own interpretation instead of looking at past events and the information actually given by Anet. Only to now be angry at Anet because they didnt follow what you assumed would happen, but continued with their trend of closed beta’s.

It’s really just save to never assume more than what you know from past events unless you’re explicitly told it will be different. Aka, when they announce closed beta and a way to acces them, assume they will be the same as the closed beta’s in the past, instead of free previews of the new content.

This portal event was just another way to get participants in a more active way that would give people something to do ingame if they really wished a ticket. The RnG is still the same as it would be if it were by signing up to the newsletter just a more active way.

That information was datamined, not officially released yet, so there is no telling when it will be announced and when those beta events will take place. So no need to jump the gun.

If you want to assume anything, do so based on officially anounced information, and that is that those who received a portal will be invited for a closed beta event.

Isn't the timing a bit off?

Well, not all sylvari are evil or affected by mordremoth.

You also have to remember that tyria is somewhat stuck in time, as the expansion will follow directly upon the ending of season 2, meaning the whole “sylvari are dragonminions” revelation hasnt yet become general knowledge.

Honestly, even if they did, why would you bother?, easier to do 4 fractals 3 days, than grind the kittened amounts of materials the accessories/rings etc will need.

-Particle effects
-Stat combinations
-Legendary trinkets
-Don’t like fractals

Those are the 4 most obvious reasons, but I’m sure there are more.

- trinkets dont give off particle effects, being able to craft ascended ones will not change that.

Check again.

okay, so a couple give particle effects, but i doubt that it will be those very few that will be the ones you can craft. Thsoe seem more like the kind that are rare and special drops. and no i didnt know about those, next time jsut gimme a link so i can actually check, tyvm.

Those are the 4 most obvious reasons, but I’m sure there are more.

- trinkets dont give off particle effects, being able to craft ascended ones will not change that.
- you can buy most stat combinations either from the fotm merchant, laural vendor, or from the ones added from the ls, by playing/buying from sw vendor
- nothing has been said on legendary trinkets afaik (could be wrong) and making it possible to craft ascended rings wont change that.
- you can use laurels or badges and ectos (iirc) from wvw laurel vendor (not sure i dont rly wvw)

That said, another way of getting ascended trinkets is always welcome

I guess if you want to argue over a technicality then sure, trinkets don’t. The jewels inside them do though. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Preserved_Queen_Bee

Crafting Trinkets would allow players to get beyond the time gate of waiting on Laurels and would function like armor and weaponcrafting time wise. Trinkets being the only non-craftable ascended gear is just odd, let alone the fact that you cant salvage the ones you get currently.

Like i said, i have nothing against them being craftable, the more ways to get them the better, i was jsut pointing out something about those “obvious reasons” thats all. I dont really care whether they add it or not, but its always great for another way to get stuff.

Class specific Armor ? two questions

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: dsslive.8473

1. There are already armors ingmae that are themed more towards certin profession, like the dry bones armor being more necro themed. No different with the revenant.

2. You’ll start out with the same armor all newly created heavy armor users start out with. The reason why that guy started in that armor was because it was a demo and they were immediately up’d to lvl 80 to show of the new area. The armor will be available throuhgh some way just as all other armors are, be it through crafting, karma or loot.

So, if I remember correctly, Arenanet said we would never have to pay for an exspansion for GW2. We would get the exspansions periodically for free.

Just want to comment on this perticular part. They never stated they wouldn’t do paid expansions, simply that at the time they weren’t looking into it but focusing on the living story.
This is simply one of the many examples of anet saying one thing and the readers making it into something different.

Gaile, are you able to say when some answers will be forthcoming? Like, “this week we’ll start answering your questions,” as opposed to “in the time before the expansion, we’ll answer all your questions.” After all, we could be a year away from HoT.

I’m sure some systems are still under development (guild halls had a lot of line art in the trailer) and final answers cannot be provided, but it would be oh so nice to know when we can start learning more.

As far as I could tell from the information given the new area is going to be one large zone with 3 levels, the roots the lowest level, the jungle floor the middle level, and the jungle canopy the upper level. This looks to me that there will be only one map, the largest in the game with these 3 levels. I could be wrong but this is the way I inturprited it from what was said at PAX, so we will have to wait to see.

Ye we now ahve confirmation that there are multiple zones.

Will the expansion lock LS content?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

dsslive.8473

So far the living story has been a way to set up the story of the expansion pack, so if they keep with this, then the new living story won’t necessarily play part in the new areas. It may be that when they pick the living story back up and use it to set up the next expansion, they set it in the already existing maps leading up to the place where the next expansion will take place. (ex. If we’re going after jormag, they’ll have lots of stuff for the shiverpeaks and maybe some new zones simlar to drytop and sw)

But really, we can only wait and see how they will handle this.

I love how people here say that everything is “optional”. Well buying the game was “optional” too… yet I am an active community member since 2007. Please stop with this “it’s optional” thing – I can see it all over the forums.

The remark “its optional” means that you dont need said option to play the game.

Now let’s look at how “optional” buying the game is for playing the game shall we?
Can you play the game without buying it? No. There you ahve it, buying the game is not optional to play the game.

Do you have to choose a certain specialization to play the game and its content? no. Thus, choosing a specialization is optional.

I think that’s the gist of it, correct me if i’m wrong, i dont really use that argument so maybe it means something else.

But you’re not buying it again, you still have and will always have the game you payed for, namely Guild wars 2. You can play everything in it, without any extra payment, it even got free updates.

What you would be buying is something new, that adds to the exisiting game but is in no way required to play said exisiting game.

so i dont get where you are getting the whole “buying it again” thing

all things point towards specializations being an alternative to the base class, not an upgrade. you can still remain an elementalist, or you can specialize into whatever comes for eles, earn some new tricks, and lose some old ones.

I don’t mind “loosing some tricks” but I do mind which one I’ll loose. That’s why I’m a little worried when I hear that initially we will be given only one specialisation.

ye but if you dont like the loosing the ones you lose, you just switch back to an elementalist, since you can swap out of combat when you choose too

Okay I agree but where is my horizontal progression then?

The masteries? From what i understood that is what they aligned with horizontal progression, not specializations, but i may be wrong.

Besides it hasn’t been state it will be payed…how cheep can u get seriously. By the time the expo comes out this game will be 3 years old. If u played it since beta u practically payed 50$ for a game that has lasted u for 3 years. Is it that much to pay 30-40$ more when the expansion comes out IF it’s payed?

Tell me how much did the last “50$ game” last you before u quit and forgot about it?

.

If u love your T-shirt and still wearing it 5 years, you also go to china and pay the kid who made it extra 10 dolars?
Sorry, but for me its not extra, its what i except, and the reason why i bought it.
But i understand your (different) attitude
Besides, there is plenty ways to support developers another way (and more voluntarily, for those who really want to)
Btw, please dont see someone who dont want to “extra pay” as a bad guy or something.

actually a better analogy would be , you bought a t-shirt and you love it, still wearing it 5 years later, then they make another t-shirt and decide to sell that too. instead of ,“here we made this too, have it for free”

Though really the t-shirt analogy is really a good one. The people who amde the tshirt didnt add anything to it, they didnt create anything new for there to be a reason you’d need to pay another extra 10 dollars

Anyhow, they never said that everything added would be free. They stated there would be free updates (which we got with living story, feature patches etc) and the possibility that in the future there could be an expansion, but they never said the expansion would be free.

Possibilities for a new playable race

in Lore

Posted by: dsslive.8473

dsslive.8473

Honestly, I expect any new race would be locked out of the PS as it exists today. I don’t know whether to expect something unique for them, a PS Season 2, or just having the PS completely replaced with something new (or going the way of personality…), but I fully expect an overhaul in conjunction with a new race.

i dont think they’d have to be completely locked out of the personal story. Take the largos or the tengu as an example.

We know that at a point in the living story a tengu is show to work with what will be the pact (i think he as a smith) so it could be possible that, incase of the tengu they make a different PS where it collides with the other races PS at that point. Could be about convincing your race to aid in the fight or something similar.

With the largos, at fort trinity we see sayeh (maight ahve the name wrong) talk with trahearne and if i remember correctly, she says something along the lines that she will tell her people about the fight against the dragons (again, its been awhile might be wrong :p ), for the largos, their story could start colliding with the main PS at that point and we’ll have the largos come in numbers to the aid of the pact.

Possibilities for a new playable race

in Lore

Posted by: dsslive.8473

dsslive.8473

I actually think the lackof knowledge about the largos is one of the reasons why it’s much more likely. Their entire story is unknow to us so Anet doesn’t ahve to wiggle within existing lore to try and make a reason why they join or what their homes and customs are.
The underwater part would indeed be an issue though, but they might be able to get around that by, if they release largos as a playable race, they make some changes to underwater content.

The kodan, regardless of how awesome it wouldbe, imo, would be a no-no, because it would involve changing what we know of the kodan to make it so they dont lack in customization (unless they go with different shade sof white ) which i’d rather not happen.

The tengu were said to be oriinally planned to be a playable race, they have a starter area all nicely lined out and are pretty darn awesome, plus the pact already has atleast one tengu in it so no reason why the others wouldnt be bale to be convinced.

Just so you know, I wasn’t referring to AP’s… I was referring to the rewards that come with completion of the 4 PvE dailies that aren’t AP’s. I missed out on an extra chest of rewards because fractals aren’t my thing. Whose fault is that? Mine because I don’t like the content? Or is it because of the lack of choice (swinging back to the topic)?

But even with added choices , let’s say they added daily reviver and daily condition applier with their own small reward chest, you’d still not get the fractal daily reward chest because it is tied to that specific daily.

So even with more choice, you still wouldn’t get the reward that is tied to the content you dislike.

Not sure if i misunderstood what you meant so sorry if i did.

If they’re inactive for over 2 years, they are no longer considered a "player’.
Since they aren’t “playing” the game.

People who have other obligations in life can find a way to log in to keep their accounts active. If not, then it’s their loss. There’s no reason Anet should keep inactive account names dormant simply because someone “might” come back.

Actually, the fact they “might” come back is exactly why. People who come back after an extended period of inactivity, come back to play their characters, the ones they created. Getting forced to change your name can definately make that person just stop right there and not come back at all.

After all, Anet would want those players to come back instead of giving them one more push to ensure they wont even bother anymore at all. And they did talk about being able to return without loosing anything, that includes their character’s name.

Also, it’s not that hard to come up with a new name, i make new characters regularly and at the worst i’m down to my fourth-fifth choice.

So, if someone comes back to play new content. They will uninstall instantly if their name has been reset?

Even though you yourself just wrote “Its not that hard to come up with a new name”. And for what? because you can’t come up with a single name?

You contradict yourself, which is why your argument doesn’t work

I didn’t contradict myself at all. It isn’t the difficulty of coming up with a name that would drive away those that return after an extended amount of time. It’s the fact that they loose part of their character, that they are punished for not playing for a time when the game was very much advertised as “take a break, come back and you won’t have lost anything”

Being forced to change your character is jsut pushing players who come back away.

And what would happen if one of these long-time inactive accounts goes active again?
Do they get forced to rename their character?

[SUGGESTION] Clothing Tonics into Outfits?

I’d prefer that the individual pieces were changed to armor parts, such as the headpieces have been changed to armor pieces.

The tonic for the townsclothing would be awesome to have as an outfit though.

Getting upset with outfits

/shrug. I like outfits. I’ve bought several so far.

1) free transmutation
2) available to all races and levels, can put on your low level for a nice appearance while leveling.
3) can switch looks in an instant

Armor fills one niche and outfits another. I don’t expect outfits to do the exact same thing as armor does. Each as its strengths and weaknesses.

^this. I like being able to change my looks on characters i’m leveling without wasting transmutation charges.

How much fun is "enough" for ANet?

You don’t have to do an endless grind to get to the fun stuff. With the fun stuff being the actual content of the game. You can play dungeons, fractals, wvw , pvp , world bosses, whichever content you desire or find fun without having to grind because exotic armor is so easily gained.

That’s what the game was advertised at, it had nothing to do with some silly tonic that was a random gift.
