The mines do help. Set the mind, aggro the wolves,go back to the mine incase you moved and wait till they pounce on the mine. Any left standing can easily be taken down. And i’d hardly call them “insta-gank” , yes they are powerfull and a handfull, but insta gank is a bit of an overstatement.

I’ve done this instance on several character with low health and had no issues staying alive.

I only had an issue with the first wolf group the very first time i went in the instance since i did not expect it, but evenso, the next attmept went without a problem.

As for after you launch the flares, you can jump upon a ledge for safety , or tough it out with canach and caithe tanking the mobs due to their inability to die.

And just because they are somewhat harder (if you don’t use the mines at all) doesn’t mean tehy’re aimed at full ascended users, no content is being made with full ascended in mind other than high level fractals and thats only for the agony slots.

Setting the difficulty bar to make a challenge for those with Ascended means those of us with mere Exotic are having a hell of a time. I knew this would happen.

The difficulty bar hasn’t been set for those with ascended, any instances , including this one, is perfectly capable of being completed with exotic armor.

I’ve done this instance several times on different characters, not one ahs ascended armor.

Tengu wall and the matching wall in LA

The wall is indeed the border of the Dominion of Winds The wall cannot only be seen in Lion’s arch and Caledon forest but also in Kessex hills running all around the Dominion.

I suppose it was build by the Tengu, who’ve somewhat secluded themselves from the outside world and don’t allow strangers within their walls.

Not sure what you mean by exit/entrance to LA from kessex hills though, you were never able to enter LA from Kessex.

Traits for newly created characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

dsslive.8473

Yeah I absolutely despise this new trait system. As a result I’m just not paying any attention to my build any more. Simply because I have no idea how certain traits have to be unlocked now. (and yes, I understand that the wiki probably has these answers for me, but I find it very strange that any of this isn’t mentioned in-game)

Actually, besides every trait is a telescope image that will tell you what is needed to unlock said trait, and if you click it it will show you the lcoation on the map.

So it is mentioned in game how to do so.

Have mages mastered any unique elements?

I really wouldn’t, as those are more of magic types than elements. Or at least they seem to be by argument of the Tyrian system as far as I can see and tell.

then whats the question?

i mean isnt that what he means by uniqe element that a mage would use?

id understand if he was talking elements of the earth but he is talking elements of magic right?

I think Op is talking about Elementalist, referring to them as mages, because in many other games that is one of the names for them.

This isn’t aimed at the avarage player but at the ‘whales’ who spend hundreds of dollars on the store. I’m actually pretty sure a large part of players will be unaffected by this. The fact that ANet preys on those with poor impulse control doesn’t make it any better.

Except that those “whales” will prety much buy that stuff anyway, since they’re know for spending a lot of money in the gemstore, whether they see it on day one of introduction or in the next couple of days/weeks. They’ll still buy it because , as you said, they have poor impulse control, nothing really changed on that front.

2) Being conditioned to log in every day makes you see all the new BL stuff you would have otherwise missed, had you not played, thus makes you more likely to spend money on the game.

Really? I didn’t know the gemstore tab automatically goes open upon login, must be something new.

Oh sorry. It increases the chance of you seeing the new items, whereas it previously was 0. If you had actually read my whole post, that’s adressed towards the bottom

Oh i read it, it jsut makes zero sense.

Logging in doesn’t automatically open up the gemstore tab, they will only see those items when they choose to look, and thus means they are interested in said.

And when people buy something, whether on the first day it got introduced or a week later, it’s because they want said item, not because suddenly we get free stuf for logging in that made them do so.

It’s supposed to keep you playing through manipulation on a basic level. Rewards for little no effort. It’s mind boggling to see so many people here fail to grasp why this might be considered as unethical.

And how does that relate to the gemstore exactly? which my post was about.

If you care to read it again, i wasn’t talking about whether it was ethical or not, i was very obviously referring to the very ridiculous notion that this somehow results in anet taking your money.

“oh free stuff, now i must immediatly get that shiny gemstore item” said no one ever

The more likely thing to happen, is people will log in, grab the reward, log out.

I still don’t see how just logging in should be rewaded other than to serve as a tool to condition players into logging in frequently. Not long, just frequently; make it a part of their daily routine. That’s how exploitative games work and something I never thought ANet would incorporate in their game.

The daily change is nice, this is just downright insulting. If you want to be treated like a lab animal, that’s your choice. I however still have some pride left and don’t want to be seen as a walking moneybag, where the first priority is: ‘How can we pull the most money out of that sucker?’ instead of ‘How can we make the game the most fun so this player wants to give us his money?’

Pray tell, how is giving people some free stuff for logging in in any way related to the gemstore and them “wanting to give us our money”

Do you need a special gemstore item to get the item fro logging in? is there ANYTHING you’d need frm the gemstore to get this free stuff?

Answer, NO

It’s ridiculous that no matter how irrelevant it is, people will always try to make this into a thing that’s created solely to promote the gemstore.

Especially since the only reason for the break is so that the people at anet can spend the holidays with their friends and family.

Man I wish I got 6 weeks of vacation…

Technically 4 weeks, they are still working and putting in the winsterday patch and a vacation during christmass/new year is hardly unheard off.

If it even is 4 weeks, its that much till the new Living story goes life, but i’m pretty sure, that people will be back to work to get everthing ready atleast a week or so in advance so that would make maybe 3-2 weeks of vacation during the holidays.

It sucks, i would have loved to see this come to an interesting end , especially after some rather short patches. But that doesn’t change that many companies give their employees free for the holidays, christmas and new year both.

I do not understand why ArenaNet are deliberately trying to kill this game!
Almost ZERO content has been added since release, and any content that is added is either finished within an hour or removed.

I do not understand why you feel the need to deliberately post false statements!

If he’s going to argue that there’s no content, the least you could do is back up your response. Cause’ right now you’re going to lose this battle my friend.

Technically it’s up to the one stating there’s a lack of content to post their evidence as they’re the one who made the argument first.

My friend, you are not diving deep enough into this argument. Look forward not back.

Yeah… Still doesn’t change the fact that it’s not on him to provide the evidence. Arnath stated that almost zero content was added without provide any proof and mtpelion challenged it.

If you want, I can state that the state the Earth is flat, have you challenge this, and then say that you must prove me wrong.

You can’t prove that something doesn’t exist, how would you do that exactly? It is up to you to prove that there has been a substantial amount of content added.

Like this:

In the first 2 years of WoW Blizzard released:

8 new dungeons
5 new raids
10 new zones
1 new race
500+ quests
6 PvP maps
2 PvP modes
10 new levels
20+ new skills
50+ new talents
LFg system
Cross server system (first of its kind ever)
4 Festivals

WoW is considered the golden standard of MMO’s, your job would be to show that GW2 does indeed release a similar amount of content. (Hint: it doesn’t).

https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/burden-of-proof

Ahh yes the old use a logical fallacy to end the argument when you lose….

Here I’ll start for you:

Number of zones added: 3*
New zones are 1/3 the size or smaller than original game zones
Number of new races: 0
Number of new classes: 0
Number of new legendary’s: 0
Number of new dungeons: 1

1 dungeon also removed
Number of new raids: 0
Number of new quests(DE’s): ~50
LFG Added
Fractals Added
New PvP modes: 1

Removed from rotation
New PvP maps: 3

One removed, one removed from rotation
Number of LS episodes: 29
*
*
*22 removed

Note: This was over 2.5 years as opposed to WoW’s Two years

Would you say that GW2 released a reasonable amount of content in those 2 years as compared to WoW?

Sorry but those items are not the definitive list of what counts as content. Those of us playing since release have experienced a wealth of content rather than the argued “almost zero”.

Wait.. hold up My friend. I’d like an explanation of what you define as “content”. I’ve been playing since release my friend, and I do not feel that there has been a wealth of content. Prove me wrong.

You know all of that which we did during season one? That was content. Content is more than just that list you posted. Whether permanent or temporary, content is still content. The Nightmare Tower, Scarlet’s Playhouse, Queen’s Pavillion, Assault on LA, and so on were all content. The story instances of season two were all content as well. The statement that there has been “almost zero” content is false.

I included all of those in the list under LS episodes.. Unless you are arguing that they weren’t removed… if so please point out where I can play them?

Woudl the contents of the feature packs be considered ‘content’? if so then they seem to be missing from your list.

Yep, indeed it will be taking a break, quite surprising.

I would say it either means that Episode 8 is not the last episode, or that episode 8 is so big that they do not want to drop it just before most employees go home to celebrate Christmas with the family.

Or… they just want to stretch out the season artifically because there is so little in total.
Not saying they are, but it is a possibilty and considering the size of the past few updates a likely one at that.

I really like the game; the core gameplay is fun, but the (amount of) added content since release was quite disappointing for me personally.

Looks to me like episode 4 was indeed the halfway point.

Or they put in wintersday which is something thats ready to go so that they don’t have to spend their time fixing bugs and working out problems instead of being home for the holidays with their families.

Kasmeer knows Polymorph Moa now?

in Living World

Posted by: dsslive.8473

dsslive.8473

Player Character mesmers are trained as soldiers and adventurers. All of their magic is combat-oriented, for the most part. Turning somebody into a Moa Bird is in the Hexes category of magic, and in the past we’ve seen Kasmeer mostly specialize in Illusions.

As someone who was previously more of a courtly noblewoman than a combatant, it’s unlikely that she knew very many combat-oriented spells before.

The player character isn’t really “trained” they jsut kinda go out there kicking kitten with the skills they now and develop.

And i wouldn’t call turning someone into a moa unrelated to illusions. She’s a mesmer, she used a mesmer ability.

Is Mender Serimon a firstborn?

in Living World

Posted by: dsslive.8473

There’s always the possibility that Mender Serimon is also a secondborn, but awoke earlier than Ceara.

And yet not only is he not shown, he probably wouldn’t have his clothes yet (the other secondborn didn’t either, after all) like he did in the short story, and since the Wardens haven’t been established yet, it’s a fair guess that the Menders probably weren’t either.

And, if they were in fact around, whoever wrote the story either forgot to address that, was too rushed, or couldn’t be bothered. So much wasted potential in this story.

There were several firstborn not shown, yet we know they exist.

I’m not saying this isn’t a possible oversight/mistake on Anet’s part, i’m jsut pointing out that because you don’t see it in a brief memory of that time, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

Also no one said menders had to wear clothes
And the origins of the wardens don’t necessarily coincide with that of the menders. Nor does it have to be a postion held by many yet.

Depends on whether the pale tree actually actively watches all these memories.

We don’t know her reasoning yet for running off with the Egg, for all we know she’s doing it for a good reason.

AS to the slaughtering of the centaur, Caithe didn’t do anything wrong. As far as she knew the centaur attacked Faolain, the person she loved, and she acted in defense when they became hostile.

So no she shouldn’t be put on trial for anything.

Normally I hate those four legged abominations but in this case Im siding with them. They havent sone anything wrong. It was Faolain provoking them to attack her. Also Caithe should have known that their escort wasnt just there for their “protection”. They were a full killer squad.
And even when Caithe says that she simply followed Faolain and her orders its not a excuse for slaughtering other people.
She should be put on Trial, stripped off all her rights and executed in the most degrading way possible for high treason, murder of innocents, endangering her allies and conspiracy against whole Tyria. Stealing the egg just made the it more severe.
At this point the only reasonable options for us are either kill or capture her. Preferably with a unmanned asuran drone.

Caithe was naive at that point in her life, yes Faolain provoked the centaurs, but caithe did not know that. Her love for Faolain made her choose her side when it came to her attention that they were attacking her. Choosing between a group of complete strangers or the person you love, tends to be an easy choice made.

The escort for “their protection” wasn’t that hard to believe. They had only just saved their own from asura who used them in their experiments. They had no reason to take risks, so Caithe wasn’t being daft assuming it was really for their protection, as their previous experiences with other races didn’t go quite as well.

Why would she need to make amends to centaurs as a race? the multitude of centaurs tend to attack us on sight, never had them make amends for it

Oh, and don’t re-roll any level 80s you have.

So Dry Top and Silverwastes, two new maps with way more to do on them than most of the regular maps is “nothing really new”?

have they been logging in periodically before this post to unlock them for free? If not, then no, its nothing really new unless they pay for them in the gemstore.

And no, whereas the content might seem expansive for someone playing them out for the first time in one fell swoop, once they are through it and “caught up” they will also then get to experience the really small/short content along with the rest of us provided they don’t go on another hiatus.

I can’t even remember the last time i logged into drytop and spent any real time in there.

You do know that you can acces both dry top and silverwastes without having to buy gems right? The only things you ahve to pay for are the story instances if you missed to log in during those 2 weeks.

So yea, silverwastes and dry top do count as something new

Because housing would be an actual feature not just a convenience upgrade. I’m sure that if it will be introduced there will be housing upgrades in the gemstore, but i doubt the feature itself will be.

I may be remembering wrong, but it was already know from guild wars 1 that the gods didn’t originate from Tyria, neither did the humans. So that didn’t really get rewritten.

[Speculation] It wasn't Caithe

It’s entirely possible that it was a mesmer disguised as Caith that took the egg. However, this mesmer has yet to be revealed. I just can’t believe that it was Countess Anise, so I’m ruling her out, and I don’t know of any other mesmers. But I agree that it wasn’t Caith. She was acting very strange from the very beginning of the episode. Following you around, ignoring the meeting with DE, and was more then a bit “off”.

I don’t think it was a mesmer pretending to be Caithe, but very much the real thing, and it’s been hinted at for awhile now, Caithe has been with us since season 1 and had a more prominent role than the rest of Destiny’s Edge.

The fact that we’ll be revisiting Caithe’s past also tells me that it’s definately going to be the real her and we’ll find out her motivations from her past.

How about spending that dev time on fixing all the bugs first? -_-
Traits?
NPE?
new sPvP modes?
new WvW maps?
There is a long of other things that are more important than this.

Nobody is saying “put everything on hold, give me this feature”

Mordy corrupted Aloe seeds?

i’d guess maguuma spiders, those things were everywhere in Gw1 down there..

mostly because anet doesnt seem to add more than 1 new enemy model a year

First year was Karka

this year was Dust mites.

Aside from dust mites anet also added Mordrem trolls and Mordrem menders, mordrem leechers/trashers, Mordrem Teragriffs, not sure about the vines so i’m not yet adding them to the list.

Thats more than one new enemy model added.

I think it would be really cool if it were implemented, it’s not really a big necessity so i doubt it will happen unless there is massive support for it (like really massive), but nonetheless, new features are always nice, so i don’t mind supporting this one

Though i ’m not sure about sharing accountbound items.

Could you explain why do you mind sharing accountbound items?

For Anet it could mean a reduced income (sharing the accountbound pickaxe/loggingaxe, salv kits, etc)

It could also be hard to implement it to recognize it, it would requier quite some changes to the coding (i’m in no way a pc guy, i know nothing of this stuff, so i can be completely wrong) to make it so it recognizes the person you “married” it would ahve to become a different state to be able to be bound to not one but two accounts and if it becomes a different state , lets call it marriage-bound, it also ahs to be able to be reverted, and be recognized as who’s ite it originally was.
