The very first weap your character gets, the one that’s already equipped, is sellable, it’s pretty much the only thing that is, and there are almost always buy orders for em.

Can they be thrown into the mystic forge?

If there is one category of complaint that consistently puzzles me it is the inventory stuff. I just don’t get why so many folks care so passionately about their bag layout. Surely it is a minor irritation at worst. I just have one “fixed” bag with the keys and consumables in and then treat the rest like a big bucket. I salvage, sell and deposit stuff then hit “compact” to make it neat. It just does not seem that important. <scratches head>

For me it’s purely an irritation of where I expect a specific tool to be, like my Salvage-o-Matic, as a result of this I’m now constantly porting to the HoM because it’s portal stone is now where I normally had my salvager.

I do not understand how the change could have caused this, but it sounds like you could just put the salvage kit where the portal stone is now and trivially fix it yourself.

There is a lot that is misguided on this thread. Rather than calling them out directly, I’ll just make some points.

  • In the reddit AMA during the spring patch release party, Anet said that the 2 gold for doing dailies was done because most of the wealth was going to very few people, and that 2 gold for dailies was a way of making sure it went to everyone (who plays enough to do their dailies).
  • Part of the reason that much of the wealth is going to few people is because few people actually care about the market. Most don’t want to bother. Flipping would stop being profitable if more people put in buy and sell listings rather than going for the instantaneous gratification. (Other methods, such as speculation would still exist, though).
  • Looking at the previous point another way, flippers are providing a service. They allow people to buy and sell things instantly, instead of waiting until someone else wants/has the thing they want to sell/buy. Since placing your own orders is cheaper, that means people are choosing of their own free will to pay gold for this service in order to avoid waiting/being undercut/etc.
  • In specific, flippers increase buy order prices and lower sell offer prices, bringing the two closer together. That lowers the cost of buying and selling instantly.
  • However, there can be problems when an investor or a group of investors tries to corner the market. This can work or it can be undermined by others, so it is risky. However, that doesn’t mean that people don’t try to do this, since many of us have seen it happen.
  • In part, the problem can be the power of extreme wealth, but I’d argue that part of the problem is that there isn’t enough flow of the good in that market. The most extreme example is when a good is no longer possible to obtain but someone stored away many stacks of it back when it was plentiful. I personally think the best fix for this is for Anet to re-release old items and make them attainable again. (Note that some items are now possible to get via the forge since the spring update that were previously impossible to get. I strongly approve of this.)

If elite specs are the way of the future...

i was actually dissapointed with Druid Elite, i was hoping the Ranger’s elite to be more damage-oriented not a healer or at least elusive considering they are Ranger, even Itzel Shadowleaper looks more ‘Ranger’ to me than actual Ranger.

That is because Rangers were begging A-net for more supportive ability. Back then, Rangers felt that they were in the same boat as Necromancers, in that they were selfish and offered little to know support that something else could do better. So A-net gave them one of the most supportive elite specs in the game.

Us Rangers will likely be receiving a damage-y elite spec coming up next

I’m actually surprised how some Rangers seemed to forget this. Necros hadn’t forgotten what they asked for (namely melee bruiser-type playstyle). As for a dps build Ranger, there are some options…they may not compete with the current maxed elites but they’re not completely left behind.

To be fair, you don’t hear many necro players complaining about the reaper…

Fractal Encryptions

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ekarat.1085

ekarat.1085

I don’t think level matters per se on this, except that the point may be irrelevant (not false, but irrelevant) at higher fractal levels because you don’t need to buy keys with silver anyway.

I believe that the claim is that the money returns on an encryption minus the cost of a key (when purchased with silver) is less than what you can get by selling an encryption on the TP.

If you have keys, then you can count the keys as free, so that calculation doesn’t apply. If you have stabilizing matrices, then you want to compare the return from a key vs selling the matrices on the TP.

So, to summarize, you want to look at:

  • If you have a key, return from box vs selling box on TP.
  • If you have extra stabilizing matrices, selling matrices vs return from box-selling box on TP.
  • If you have neither, return from box – price of key (w/ silver) vs selling box on TP.

Finally, I will point out that boxes are that price because someone is buying them at that price. That might be because they have enough keys that it is profitable to buy, or because they are hunting for fractal skins or other rare drops.

So what does raiding bring to the table? (apart from the challenge, which I’m looking forward to)

Apart from the challenge and the minis, it brings Legendary Armor — which has stats the same as Ascended, but you can switch them (hypothetically) when out of combat.

[suggestion] make spirit shards sellable

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Trading them will just crash the price unless there are more uses. Instead, I propose:

  • A “mastery” setting that gives you spirit shards every time you fill the bar, so you can earn spirit shards more quickly, if you need to. (Obviously, this is a reference to when you got a skill point every time you filled the experience bar at 80.)
  • More things that require them, for people who have too many.

By and large, the HoT legendaries have descent journeys, but the original precursor collections are a bit lackluster.

If all the remaining legendary collections were as good as the Chuka and Champawatt one was — and in my opinion it is the best of the bunch — then I’d really be pushing to get the legendaries back after Living Story 3. However, I think not enough people do this content to be worth the manpower to do it.

Why the unrelenting pressure to do JPs?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ekarat.1085

ekarat.1085

I feel that Anet got a bit excited about JPs because they were being proud of adding jumping after GW1. While I appreciate not having to run around a fallen log, I’m not enthusiastic about JPs. Still, I don’t mind the dailies, especially since you can get ports for most, and I did PvP the day the Malchor’s Leap one was a daily. (Note: I did that JP once and never want to do it again.)

What I do object to is gating other content behind JPs, like collections. More specifically, I object to bundling other content with JPs — if you wanted to have a legendary backpack/wings for someone who does every single JP in the game, go ahead. Let people who like JPs show off their accomplishments. I’m okay with that. (In fact, I think there would be people who would be excited for it.) What I don’t like is what happened with Winter’s Presence, where I was excited to do the steps, then realized that the JP was the biggest obstacle — I was doubly shocked when I realized that I had to do it 3 times, not just once. (I did eventually get it, but — ow — my painful wrists after.)

My biggest fear for the game is that they will require Mad King’s Clocktower for a Halloween meta-achievement and/or collection. Please don’t. It’s own achievement is fine, but please let us skip it for the meta-achievement, like in past years, but unlike what happened last Wintersday.

What’s the point of even keeping durability in this game? It doesn’t cost anything to repair, it just inconveniences you and wastes your time. Just remove it.

What alternative do you suggest?

  • Return to the old system: you pay for both repairs and waypoint costs. Tedious and yet little more consequential than the existing system.
  • ‘Break’ armor after one death (instead of just damaging it). This is more consequential in that people would be forced to repair right away, instead of being able to go 8 deaths before needing to do so. But does that improve people’s game experience?
  • Add a new core mastery for repairs, which would annoy all existing players.

The current system isn’t fantastic; it’s just a nice compromise between the typical tedious & annoying repair system of other games and completely eliminating consequences for dying.

Well, the obvious replacement is to not have any damage or durability at all…

Dailies + Dungeons Causing Inflation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ekarat.1085

ekarat.1085

While I can understand being concerned about the Daily gold inflating the economy, it is an effect that takes a long time to work. It isn’t going to cause prices to rise suddenly.

Dungeons are similar, but it would take a large number of people running dungeons nonstop to cause inflation, and I don’t think dungeons are that popular again.

More likely, prices have gone up because of demand. People want wood to make the newest (and possibly last) legendary. Gem prices have gone up because desirable stock has been rotated in.

Map Volunteering broken

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ekarat.1085

ekarat.1085

Ironically, SW is the opposite of the HoT maps, and by that I mean I almost never get the volunteer message. I can run around there for 2 hours doing what little I can when the progress gets close to the Breach event then suddenly all hell breaks loose and tons of players show up to do the events. Then of course after the Vinewrathe event is complete, almost all of them get taxiied into another instance that is close to the breach.

That’s because the map isn’t empty — it’s just that the players are ignoring the events.

More specifically, the players are probably doing a chest train, so they are in the map, but not doing the events.

In general, it doesn’t seem broken so much as difficult to come up with an algorithm that works well. Just before a big map event, a number of people join the map all at once, spinning off a large number of new maps. After the event, people leave the map, leaving a bunch of near-empty maps. That’s unavoidable. What could change is it being smarter about what map it is putting you in after you volunteer, though it could put you in a map that is actively shrinking but isn’t below the threshold to close the map yet, but a few minutes later it is.

Also, if you stay in a map, sometimes it doesn’t close because new people do join it — I’ve seen the volunteer window go away when this happens.

Finally, they did address this issue in the Spring patch — they increased the timer from 1 hour to 2 hours to leave the map, though for the life of me, I don’t see why that would be any better, and it could possibly be even worse.

However right now it takes 1 empty map, opens a new empty map and then you have 2 mostly empty maps and the new players are split over both these maps. This then triggers it again, opening a 3rd new map and now you have 3 maps that are useless.

Do you have a reference for this?

This. If you don’t want to farm lower-tier metals, don’t. Buy them when you need them, but their main use at 80 is for deldrimor steel ingots, and this makes lower level maps relevant.

Taimi in the context of tyria

ekarat.1085

This right here is my issue with the character. I actually like Taimi, so I don’t want her to get killed or anything, but it does absolutely destroy any tension knowing that there is no way she will be killed off due to the blowback that would cause.

This has been a pet peeve of mine for years, as my dad was wheelchair bound. He hated how TV and movies would always have the disabled person always virtuous and moral. As he used to say “Crippled people can be jerks too. Just look at me!”

That’s actually really false. Just type into google “disabled villains”. There are tons. But for a few examples: Darth Vader, Dr No, Blofeld, Davros, even sodding Paul Robinson on Neighbours has one leg LOL.

I think you, and to some extent your Dad were psychologically ignorant to any villain who was disabled, or you are simply unaware of the hundreds actually out there.

I was also going to give some examples, but all of my examples were supervillains. So, it depends strongly on genre, and if you’re not into the right kind of thing, you won’t see as many disabled villains.

However, they do exist.

Taimi in the context of tyria

in Lore

Posted by: ekarat.1085

ekarat.1085

You’re trating Taimi like she’s the rule. She’s not the rule, she’s the exception, which is why doing the things she does still works in the world.

Lots of Asura can build golems, but only a very small handful of asura can build golems capable of what Taimi does.

Taimi isn’t an average child, she’s an exceptional one, just like your plaer character is an exceptional member of whatever race you are. making the argument that she’s just a disabled child is like saying the story is unbelivable because my character came from the slums of DR and went on to be a pivotal factor in the death of two elder dragons.

Like it or hate it, the main characters are main characters because they’re exceptions to the rule. Taimi isn’t just a child any more than traherne is just a scholar, Logan is just a human in armor, or Snaff is just a golemancer. These characters, like it or hate it are unique specifically because they’re exceptional examples of the people of tyria with skills, knowledge, determination, or circumstances that most people simply don’t have. That’s what makes them heroes of the story rather than nameless filler NPCs.

And I understand that.
All that aside – being an exceptional builder of golems and a prodigy don’t mean you’re automatically qualified for front-line fighting.
Taimi has proven in this very story that while she has a lot of cognitive potential she is still a child – because of her inability to control her emotional side and lack of emotional maturity – that almost gets her killed.

That’s not the kind of person you want by your side when you’re fighting for your life. Or for some bigger goal.
If she can make great golems she should just send the golems. Or have some other asura drive it around.

By that logic, Braham is a child and not someone you want by your side. I certainly don’t see him as any more emotionally mature or in control than Taimi.

It would defeat the purpose of the mastery system if you could instantly complete all of them the moment the were released.

It makes more sense just to have a repeatable mastery track that gives you a spirit shard every time it is completed. (Yes, I know we never got spirit shards for experience, but we got skill points, and one of the things that split out to is spirit shards.)

What they have now is effectively a mount. Don’t expect them to do too much with mounts unless they somehow decide to go big with mounts in the expansion as a feature much like gliding was in the Heart of Maguuma.

A mount mastery wasn’t my idea, but it does sound like something possible in the expansion — they need a hook like gliding, and mounts would make sense. I don’t particularly want mounts, but I do recognize it as a potential selling point of the next expansion.

I actually expected a fix for this in the Spring Update and was disappointed that we didn’t get it. Rather than a gobbler, a better answer would be to find a use for sigils and runes. Eg:

  • Allow us to mystic forge 4 useless superior runes/sigils to a random one that might be useful.
  • Allow us to forge runes and sigils into amalgamated gemstones.
  • Give us something else we can make with large stacks of runes/sigils.

never had connection issues in GW2… since the last quarterly patch i’ve been disconnecting at least twice a day.
every, single, day.

at the very moment when the update went live, my launcher completely crashed and i couldn’t even start the game. would get an error message saying the file didn’t exist.

managed to work around that, with help from the forums, but still get horrible connection problems.
disconnected for no reason, at random times, and takes me over 5 minutes to log back in.
i immediately check my internet connection every time, and it is still working perfectly… i have no reason to believe the problem is on my end.

Maybe more players are coming back and there’s a higher load than usual?

I done the JP and you know what? Not recognized for dailies, okay fine went to wvw, the shrine dailies, done, you know what? Not recognised as dailies… It was a bad day.

I think the JP was broken. I got to the top today and didn’t get the daily either.

Something similar happened to me with the Griffonrook JP daily a couple days ago… got to the top, no credit… looked it up, and saw that I needed to carry a bomb… went back and grabbed the bomb and made my way back up… set the bomb at the chest… and boom: nothing.

~EW

That’s because there is more than one chest. None of the JP dailies have yet been broken; however, people have gotten confused as to what to do, especially when there are multiple chests. If this happens again, you can try messaging the map to ask how to get credit.

The activity, on the other hand, was broken. So, it was a good day to try the PvP dailies instead.

There is the recipe that forges 10 at a time now and it is even cheaper too.

It’s still a crazy amount of clicking. Assuming no critical successes, that’s 125 clicks that can be done assembly line style (since you have to move your mouse for each different one). This is in addition to the crazy amount of clicking required for mystic clover.

I always use the 10X recipe for clover (until I need less than 10) so not really much clicking at all. I also seem to have better luck with the 10X recipe and prefer to get the non clover returns as you end up making money a lot of the time.

Your idea of “making money” is different from mine. I’ve kept careful track of all my mystic clover results and I’ve found:

  • I have worse average luck than the community’s, which means I’d spend noticeably more on the 10x recipe.
  • The non-clover drops don’t add up anywhere near good value for the time or karma that I spend (better than nothing, to be sure).

If you’re lucky, the 10x clover recipe is much better. But it’s more likely that you’ll be just unlucky enough that the 1x recipe is the better bargain. Since I have been demonstrably unlucky, I’ve stuck with the 1x recipe, even though I know that past performance (bad or good) doesn’t guarantee future earnings; I just mean I have reason to avoid the risk.

However, that misses the point I was trying to make about finishing a legendary: there’s a lot about it that’s fun and legendary, but whether I use the 10x or 1x recipes, I still need to spend a long time in front of the mystic forge (not to mention ensuring I have just the right amount of ingredients, without overspending) — I can see no reason that “legendary” needs to require that much tedium.

Or to repeat my earlier observation:
I have no problem with the costs associated with building a legendary weapon; I just wish it didn’t include so many mouse clicks in the same 5 places, over and over.

What are you talking about? Even if you are maximally unlucky, it’s at most 25 forges to get a full stack of 250 gemstones. Fewer if you have average or better luck.

Of course, that’s with the new recipe — if you are talking about the old recipe, then you have more of a point, but that’s why they introduced the new recipe.

I’ve found a way to make them at next to no cost with a slight initial investment that might net me some profit later. Unfortunately it’s a slow process and will take awhile to accumulate all of them. Do some research, I’m sure you’ll find a more affordable way.

Making them yourself with the cheaper bulk recipe is cheaper than buying them, but I wouldn’t call it next to no cost.

Until very recently, it was cheaper to buy crests/orbs/whatnot rather than upgrading them with a jeweler, but it’s not much of a savings either way.

All in all, I’m skeptical that it can be done at “next to no cost”, unless you mean using/upgrading gems that drop. Technically, then you don’t need to buy anything, but you’re still not getting the money you would get from selling the loot either.

There is also the t5 upgrades but that might come at the cost of breaking your hand.

True. That can give amalgamated gemstones occasionally, but trying to get all of them that way is absurd and eats up a ton of spirit shards. If you want to convert spirit shards to gold anyway, then sure, but I try to conserve mine somewhat, since I can’t farm more. (Now, if they created a mastery track that dropped a single spirit shard every time the bar fills, then that’s different…)

There are no shards involved. 4xt5 => 1 t5/t6/amalgamated gemstone

As for getting spirit shards that is pretty easy with HoT too. They are in the airship cargo/exalted chest/crystallized cache/noxious pod. Before the patch those weren’t a good option but now that they are practically showering you with currency and keys that isn’t a big deal.

Oh, the other t5 upgrades (common, fine, and rare) do require spirit shards, but universal upgrades (eg gems/crests/doubloons) don’t. You are right — I stand corrected, as I was thinking it followed the pattern of the common/fine/rare recipes.

How frequent is this? I generally think there is a 20% chance of getting a t6 upgrade back from t5 upgrades, but how often is it an amalgamated gemstone?

The result of forging 4×250 t5.

So a bit under 7/250 since that t5s generated some medallions and I also forged those together as well.

So, I count 100 t6s and 7 amalgamated gemstones.

Let’s say you spent ~4×250×.0335 gold and got ~100*.30 g + 7 gemstones out. That’s approximately 33.5 gold in and 30 gold out + 7 gemstones, so approximately .5 gold per gemstone, with a lot of clicking.

According to gw2profits, the 10/25-gemstone recipe costs 22g04s30c for an expected 11.7 gemstones — for 1g88s40c per gemstone, but for a single forge attempt, as opposed to the 300+ forge attempts from forging t5s.

So, with the bulk method, you get more gemstones out than from the t5 method, but the t5 method is much cheaper, yet saves you much less money per click.

As for chrono, I just can’t seem to do much damage with it. I do think I may be playing it badly — I shatter every third keypress or so (when I get 3 illusions up, which is not hard), but my shatter damage is still low. We will learn masteries that will allow us to cross the desert more easily — possibly including a mounted mastery (we’re going to get a transportation-related mastery of some sort, and people have been wanting mounts, so… yeah…). We’ll get a new elite spec for each class. We may or may not a new class.

Alternately, we might get a new race, the Tengu, and their starting area. They will extend to the sea (with revamped underwater combat) to take on Bubbles. We will also get underwater masteries to swim in water currents. We’ll also get a new spec for each class, but not a new class. This time, we will get a new character slot.

Of course, that’s what I think we will get. What I want is a break from the dragons and a sideways turn in the plot where the death of two elder dragons is causing the underworld to come apart at the seams. We need to raise Glint’s egg to partially fill the vacuum we have created, as well as finding ways to siphon off magic that is creating magic storms.

Oh, and you can sell most, but not all, of them for some silver.

In general:
Go to the legendary craftsman Hobbes (or whatever his name is — the one you buy the books from) in Lion’s arch and tell him you want to buy an item you lost. You can destroy any item not listed there. (Note: Items you haven’t gotten yet, won’t be listed, so if you get future trophies, you need to check the list again.)

For items listed there, right click on them and look at the collection. If you finished it, you don’t need that item anymore either.

Finally, if you destroy something you needed, you can always buy them back again from the legendary craftsman for some karma, which you probably have plenty of.

  • Necromancer – Spite/Soul Reaping/Reaper with Shouts and Signets, or Blood Magic and Wells if you don’t have Reaper. Use GS/Staff, or D+Wh/Staff. Use Valkyrie or Cavalier, as Deathly Perception/Decimate Defenses will be all the Critting you need.
For Condition Builds, use Viper (Or if you can’t get that, Sinister or Carrion) and run with Curses/Soul Reaping/Reaper or Curses/Death Magic/Reaper if using Minions.[/quote]

For necro, I would use Death Magic instead of one of Spite or Soul Reaping, assuming you want survivability. It is the necro defense line. Plus, Unholy Sanctuary means you go into shroud instead of downed. In terms of survivability, that’s an extremely useful thing.

For HoT survivability, I use Death Magic, Soul Reaping, and Reaper, combined with shouts in slots 6-10. You can then charge into pocket raptor groups, shout them to death, and heal at the same time — without ever swinging a weapon. (But I do miss the might from Spite.)

Ranger is also pretty good for survivability, as your pet can revive you when you go down.

Yes, I’m hitting a wall at 348 — books are light blue and there doesn’t seem to be anything I would be able to craft at 350 other than the backpack.

It’s getting really difficult without having guild permissions.

So, my experience is that this market is drying up quickly.

Plus, I hit a plateau on scribing at 350, so I cannot advance and aren’t using the pigments myself (which is why this interested me in the first place).

Scribing and Guild Permissions

Do I need guild permissions to scribe the higher level decorations?

I can’t scribe decorations without getting guild items, and I believe I can’t even scribe my own ingredients for those recipes because they go to the guild. (Or at least banners did.) Not to mention that most, if not all, of the recipes require something from the guild.

I’m at 348. I’m not sure what I can scribe at 350. (Even getting to 350 will require scribing a lot of books at reduced experience.)

Uh, what do I do? Am I stuck here?

TP Item Listings Still There After Purchase

When I purchase multiple items at multiple sale prices on the TP, not all of those items disappear from the listings if I hit OK. I get the items I purchased, and I pay the money, but fewer items disappear from listings than I purchased.

Given that the listings have the same number at each price instantly, I don’t think it is a bot.

I’m not sure how to trigger or not trigger it, but it happens about half the time I buy multiple sale listings at different prices and hit OK.

Legendary Weapons: Gold or Collections

Once you get the collections out of the way, I don’t see anything stopping you from crafting multiple. I accidentally used the recipes on the wrong character (my main rather than my weaponsmith), so I had to buy another set for karma. I got the initial crafting item with it, so I should be able to craft a second precursor with it. On the other hand, once you have the skin, crafting another isn’t horribly useful, unless you are going for twice-told-legend.

I did enjoy making HOPE and I really love having it. Went to the Harathi events daily to pew pew everything for the heck of it. I never bothered with the old legendaries because it felt like a massive mat collection grind and nothing else, combined with the impossibility of getting a precursor (impossible for my playstyle, that is).

I wasn’t going to bother with the shortbow, and still don’t feel like completing it all the way, but I like the 3 base versions and the tiger cubs on back thing enough that I probably will start that collection but take my time so bugs can get evened out.

Me too. I don’t use a short bow, but I kinda want the cubs…

Making Old Dungeons Worth Doing

Just a little correction, the achievement is no part of the daily achievements. Is a repetable achievement that don’t reset each day. So you can do 2 runs today, 4 tomorrow, 2 after tomorrow and you get the 5 golds. Or you can do 16 runs in a day and get 10 gold for the achievement.

Actually, they did both. In addition to the “anytime” achievement, they added dungeon achievements to the daily rotation, but only occasionally, not every day.

Now that I think about it, they could add a Mastery for mount, and allow certain content to be accessed via the mount of the mastery lv.

That’s…. actually a good idea I never thought of. Plus, it gives people something to do with their XP.

So, I really like the new legendary journey associated with the new legendary short bow — Chuka and Champawat. So far, it’s been a fun extended questline that tells a story.

The sad part is that I feel like I may be in the minority here. The process was described in the Reddit AMA as not being sustainable, which I interpret as meaning that each legendary collection line takes a lot of effort that isn’t widely appreciated. A lot of people just look at it as some hoops to jump through to get their precursor, which really makes it not worth Anet’s time to develop these collections. On the other hand, if more people saw it as content above and beyond the legendary skin, maybe there would be more of a point to do them.

However, I do appreciate the collections themselves — particularly this latest one. I don’t expect everyone to agree, but hopefully there are others.

Is it worth Anet’s time to do maybe one per quarterly update for those of us who enjoy it? — once LS3 is released, of course!

Only do the collections if you think they would be fun. (I actually like the new legendary short bow collection — it’s basically an extended quest chain.)
