Nobody ever said unviable. The point i was making was that given 2 players of the same skill level the engineer will lose 9/10.
All those 1v1 tournaments and streaming Engineers seem to provide evidence to the contrary.
I find it appalling that you can’t realize the difference between “high-skill, high-reward” gameplay and “high-difficulty, moderate reward”.
Compared to other classes, Engineers have a disadvantage. Half of our skills are bad. We can’t weapon switch. We have no synergy in 4 out of 5 of our trait bars. Our class has absolutely no synergy with its mechanic.
Not being able to “weapon switch” isn’t a disadvantage in and of itself, given that we have kits. You could say that other classes “don’t have kits”, and it would mean the same thing (i.e. it means nothing).
You can drop the word “synergy” as many times as you like, but without actual evidence it doesn’t strengthen your point.
Engineers have a number of different, viable builds. Some builds (turrets, for example) would be stronger/more viable with some bug fixes and tweaks.
Every time someone exclaims that Engineers are useless/the bottom of the pile/terrible, they dilute any constructive arguments for useful fixes.

Maybe Toss Elixir S should always grant stability and the tool belt skill for Utility Goggles could be changed to “Bend Light” and grant stealth. After all, nobody gives a kitten about the current tool belt skill for the goggles. The only thing it ever gets used for is to trigger Static Discharge.
That’d do it for me. I will admit that both skills are nice on thrown Elixir S, but sometimes I really want the invuln to be 100%.
I can answer that easily.
Most players don’t select their main character class based on its perceived rank within the class balance hierarchy, especially early in a game’s lifetime. Aesthetics, class mechanics and perceived role generally play a huge part, even for hardcore players.
…
The engineer is a fairly niche class design for a fantasy RPG and will naturally attract a smaller playerbase than most others, even if it were overpowered.
Nailed it.
(this is also why Rangers are so popular; it’s a favorite archetype of many fantasy fans)
… and lower the cooldowns on gadgets.
This, many times over.
Shorter cycles on stunbreaks (Slick Shoes) and escapes (Rocket Boots) would go a long way towards making up for our average mobility.
Removing the RNG on thrown Elixir S would be nice as well, and perhaps buffing a condition removal—a buff to HT’s durability and/or Medkit 4 would help too.
We don’t need sweeping changes, but some minimal tweaks here-and-there would do a lot for our quality of life and trait diversity (which for the most part, is pretty good).
Every time I think there’s drama in these threads, I think back to what the WvW forum on GW2Guru was like and breathe a sigh of relief.
*edit: @ Mollify, being on ET I know what you mean lol in the AA/TA battles
There was so much love for RUIN!

Try engineer and see yourself.
I like this reply.
Do you not find that the movement speed increase from Power Shoes conflicts with the healing bombs (i.e. you move out of the AoE too quickly) and/or the need to sit on a point with this?
PvE? sPvP? WvW?
If you mean to use it for PvE, go Rifle + GK + TK: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VV70;0B-cPFw0m5gSFx0;9;4TJ;0J46A48;518-L;5G3G3G3G35Bj (I posted this in another thread; it’s a pretty standard PvE Engineer build)
yes it’s pve! thanks btw, but i’m kinda confused, u told me it’s pve but u used pvp items and pvp runes :s
Was easier to build it rather than picking out all the jewelry for PvE. Obviously you just run full ’zerker with Runes of the Scholar.
What do you feel you bring to the group when you run FOTM as an engineer? Do you bring something only we can bring? I’d like to hear how I can become more helpful to the party. What builds are you using? I assume it’s something with grenades, right? I’d really like to hear what some experienced engineers do in Fractals.
Very strong DPS. Very fast AoE vulnerability stacking. Water fields. Poison fields.
Run the typical Rifle + GK/TK + Rifle Turret build w/ full ’zerk and go to town: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VV70;0B-cPFw0m5gSFx0;9;4TJ;0J46A48;518-L;5G3G3G3G35Bj
Tool Kit and Rifle Turret?
What are you suggesting as an alternative? TK offers vuln stacks and confusion; however most of your time is spent in GK anyway, in-between putting your Rifle abilities on CD.
PvE? sPvP? WvW?

http://intothemists.com/guides has a few.
I run http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-VRw;2cPVg0c-JRFx0;9;4T4-JE24A;408-5;0Vw;4hoHAhoHA2cq w/ Rocket Boots and/or Elixir S, depending on the situation.
Run something like this w/ full Rabid/some Apoc in your jewelry slots: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-VRw;2cPVg0c-JRFx0;9;4T4-JE24A;408-5;0Vw;4hoHAhoHA2cq
HT/GK/BK/Rocket Boots.
You’ve asked the same question in multiple class forums:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/whats-the-new-plans-for-the-Guardian
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/whats-the-new-plans-for-the-Necro-class
etc, etc, etc.
Provide a link? I think you can assume that if there’s zero discussion on this forum about it, then…
There doesn’t have to be just “one” class for each (subjective; arbitrary) damage category.
Engineers bring CC, control, conditions and sustain to groups. They still rate highly in the sPvP meta.
That garrison fight in BG BL at around 5:30PM AEST was great stuff.
The actual answer is Charr.
I know I shouldn’t reply to another one of the thousands of Daecollo threads, but there’s way too much confusion here (read: won’t happen, ever).
Correct (but seriously, forget about the damage they do).

That explains it, thanks. So yeah.. unreliable =/
Actually, if you just spam the overcharge button as you drop the turret, you should get the waterfield to appear every time.
Yeah, but it doesn’t =/ Unless it doesn’t always show the animation or something.
It almost does. If you’re lagging a bit, then it won’t be as reliable.
(use it for the gap closing/creating ability and the blast finisher*, not for the damage).
- Smoke Bomb + Rocket Boots = stealth getaway. Really good for resetting the fight.
Not all healing abilities are equal.
Healing Turret, for example, can be destroyed very quickly (often before you can combo it) if you drop it in a bad spot, and you need to stay in range to maximise benefit.
I do like the build.
My only thought is your condi removal looks fairly poor. I honestly would take the healing turret for that reason alone, it combos amazingly for extra heals with the BoB/EG 4. It would give you better heals/condi removal/team support. You would have to change your gameplay a bit though – turret is worse than the medipack for kiting.
Med Kit is better than the Healing Turret for condition removal thanks to #4 (Adrenal), which is on a 15s cooldown. Not to mention the better self-heals.
I run Med Kit when solo/small group and HT when in a larger group and/or fighting on nodes in sPvP.
Rocket boots stopping my movement when I land.
I think this is a lag issue. I suffer from it, and it’s the same with my Warrior leaps (Sword #2).
Unfortunately I can’t make light travel faster and therefore I’m a little screwed.
The current “meta” for Engineer PvE is pretty much full ’zerker w/ Rifle, TK, Rifle Turret and either GK/BK.
TK/GK: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VV70;0B-cPFw0m5gSFx0;9;4TJ;0J46A48;518-L;5G3G3G3G35Bj
Bombs are nice for the combo fields; Grenades for the range.
What Engineers call ‘rifles’ are actually ‘shotguns’ or more accurately ‘blunderbusses’. Wouldn’t it be nice if one day the Gods of ANet replaced our ‘rifles’ with shotguns and then let us have access to real rifles?
Unlikely. They’re just rifles as Warriors use them too, and it was likely (much) easier to do the art & models for one lot of weapons rather than two. Weapons tied to a single class also get a lot of whiners on forums, so they likely saved themselves some hassle there too
How tanky can a Engi FT running juggernaut really be? Tempted to spec it but not sure how it compares to other classes.
Plenty, if you go for a Power build and run P/V/T gear. FT benefits from power more than condition damage anyway, so it’s decent synergy. Run Rifle + FT + BK + TK for success.
Wanted to bump this in appreciation. Great 1vN’s, solid builds and good editing to boot.
Ditch DotE for Warrior’s Sprint. Way too useful.
Sword is good, especially if you run with mace in off-hand.
Yep. That mace knockdown + Skullcrusher + shield slam + sword burst provides a lot of heavy CC.
It’s not.
Are you confused with that, sword leap + greatsword 5 being used in quick succession.
Balanced Stance is fine as-is.
It’s a huge cost though, and the moment you want to dump adrenaline isn’t always the moment you want to cleanse conditions.
So why dont run a OP build?? ( i dont.. really) but thats the point. i dont want to be almost forced to this combo over and over again, i want to have better sustain/damage on my longbow ( or other builds)..
You can run a Longbow + Sword/WH condition build in WvW; you can run GS + Axe/Mace in PvE; Hammer + Sword/WH (or Mace/Shield or Axe/WH or Axe/Shield) in WvW; you can run Axe/Mace in tPvP, etc.
Lots of effective options (those aren’t the only ones, either). PvE is arguably the most “single track” but we have it no different from most other classes there.
So don’t run Mace/Shield and GS?
That isn’t the only viable combo currently.
This.
There are plenty of other viable builds for tPvP and WvW that don’t involve GS whatsoever.
PVT + Knights. Full PVT is overkill.
I never dip down low into my HP numbers (you can see pic above, around 32k) unless the entire team has wiped so I thought I should mess with trading vitality for other stats.
So today I am experimenting with swapping my rings and earrings for knights.
Self buffed stats with no sigil stacks now look something like
3460 attack
43% crit chance
21% crit dmg
3409 armor
28k healthI am pretty excited to try this out later.
How exactly do you achieve these stats? <.<
He is obviously including a ton of boons in those figures.
I have been trying to avoid Zerker as much as possible since that’s practically all i see is zerker warriors swinging greatswords around and then getting stomped by mobs in PVE and getting pounded in WvW.
If you’re getting stomped by mobs in PvE it’s typically bad performance on your part or your groups. Some people kid themselves (‘zerker + terrible at dodging) but if you’re half decent with your dodge button it is the way to play. GS + Axe/Mace is the standard fare.
In WvW, ‘zerker ain’t going to help you. You can run a fairly balanced Hammer + stance build, a GS + sword/WH build (very good for escaping/chasing) or possibly a Sword/Mace + Mace/Shield stun build like mine (small group play; stun + root runners). WvW builds really depend on whether you’re playing ZvZ or 15vX.
GS + Axe/Mace: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/83915-axemace-dps-build-for-dungeons-and-fractals-62513/
Just started a Guardian alt (level 10 as of this post). Running w/ tier 2 cultural helm and the Orr Karma set.
Races and their racial elites really don’t make a huge difference to a Warrior, as you’ll typically want to use the standard elites: Signet of Rage and/or Battle Standard.
In that case, pick what you think looks best.
Runes of the Soldier if you’re a Shout Warrior. The AoE condition remove is incredibly strong in WvW, PvE and sPvP.
I will try it, but it is weird that 2011 computer cannot handle the game properly. I thought that this game will be playable on medium/high settings , not low/medium.
As far as I noticed, shaders are giving the biggest impact on fps (besides supersamling). But if I turn them off completly, then I might as well could turn everything off and play without any effects…
Thanks for the info, I will test your settings combination
Note that “2011” computers can have hugely varying specifications. iMacs typically sacrifice video card performance for the display & form factor.
PS: The upcoming iMacs look to change this, with a 680MX offered in the top-end model.
I can run at 50fps but ONLY if I turn everything off and everything down. And this is on an i7 3.08 ghz with a GTX 580 and 24 gigs ram. The client still needs work. I had hoped for a native client and not a wrapper, but it is what it is and we’re lucky they’ve put a few devs on giving us this. This brings me one step closer to not having to go back to Windows.
This sounds like another issue.
I have an i7 + an OC’ed 6850 (aka 6970M) and manage 50 FPS with most settings on medium, and shadows low, at 2560×1440. I can turn most settings up a notch when running under Windows (via Bootcamp).
Will the mac client always be Cider wrapped?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: elithrar.7143
As said, it’s highly likely it will be Cider wrapped forever.
Bootcamp performance is better, but not hugely so. Being able to run updated drivers is likely what gives the boost; I see a 10-15% increase (at best) when I run it in Windows.
I get 40-50FPS+ on an i7/12GB RAM/6970M (overclocked). Settings are similar except with:
- Textures: High
- Depth of Field: Off
- FXAA: On
- Shadows: Low
It’s likely the shadows & DoF giving you some hassle.
Use this to figure out what to add next based on your current stats & heal strength.
Also consider your condition removal skills, if any, and the type of content you’re gearing for. Toughness won’t help against conditions, but if you have a lot of cleanses you can stack a bit more instead of vitality.
Mace MH is more about stuns/counter/daze, and has a low damage output — it’s not an offensive weapon.
Mace OH can be combined with Axe MH for two vuln stacking abilities and a great (if fiddly) ranged knockdown.
