-your only source of burning is incendiary powder which is unreliable. i suggest taking offhand pistol.
-you are very slow without power shoes or swiftness. you’ll never escape from anything and you’ll never catch anything trying to escape.
-you have some power gear, but still very low power; low enough where it won’t really make a difference. taking the power gear also lowered your condition damage by a lot. i suggest you pick power or conditions and focus on that.
-you didn’t take vigor or use an energy sigil. that really hurts your survivability. when you play the game of dodges, you dodge or you die.

might stacking build capable of heavy burst, high cc, and some condition damage
it’s decent and the best alternative if you’re tired of mashing 1.
you can use it as a low cd blast finisher. the toolbelt is great for static discharge. you can use it for cc with accelerant packed turrets. basically it has a lot of uses, none of which involve being a turret.
nobody should ever go healing bombs. not in pve. not in wvwvw. not in tpvp.
anyway yes engineers are fine in wvwvw. probably one of the best roamers in the game.
(edited by ellesee.8297)
shield 4 and 5 and pistol 3 can save your life. shield 4 obviously has the blast finisherpoison is good for things that heal or have regen. p/s has the added benefit of an extra sigil. really up to you though.
anyway it’s impractical to stuff 10 different blast finishers into a 3 second duration fire bomb. the cooldown for your fire field is so short you can just spread them out.
this is my dungeon build.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqSYX3SiF17IyoCdGoH1FgNife8WtFEC-jwBBYfBkEBgKAMzsIasVOFRjVXDT5iIqGA-e
high damage and support through vuln stacking, team condition removal and heals, and revives on downed people.
ruby orbs are the cheapest
ogre or strength runes are better for a slight increase in price
scholar is the best but pricy
i would replay it if they made the final mission not so awful. it was probably the biggest letdown for me in the entire game.
i rerolled a level 80 human engineer so i could be an asura. it’s not too late.
seems ok. i’d rather have elixir gun or rocket boots instead of elixir b. and i’d run power wrench over leg mods.
run AC p1/3. takes about 30 minutes to finish both with a good group and then you’ll have enough money for battle.
it works in and out of combat. permanent +25% move speed
engineers are one of the best roamers because they can simply beat every class and every build except condi necros if you play it well. also they have a great escape tool with rocket boots and permanent swiftness. very few classes can catch up.
this is the build i run:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqalIq6dH5SiF1LJyoCdGoC5lIF6nl95xbxWQIA-j0BB4iBkWAk+AITtIaslWFRjVdDTHjIqWKAYmGB-w
you’ll want to use battle or strength sigils if you’re using an HGH build. and you’ll want runes that have boon or might duration. otherwise you won’t get many might stacks.
bunch of grenade builds off the top of my head:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlspSXnvSiF17IyoCdmoHPGlNZfe8WtFEC-jwBBYfAkIAZmFRjtIcIa1hhVXDT5iIqGA-e
easy, mindless, great for beginners. decent damage through grenades and might stacking from elixirs.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlIqSYX3SiF17IyoCdGoH1FgNife8WtFEC-jgBBYfAUBAZmFRjt4qIas6aYKXER1A-e
my personal build. high damage and team support
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlIqyUH5SiF17IyoHdGpJaiKkffe8WtFEC-jgBBYfAUBAZmFRjt4qIas6aYKXER1A-e
static discharge variant. high spike damage. lower overall dps.

It should not be nerfed, how long they can nerf eng not buffing him, this post is made by some backstabbing warrior that wants to get rid of engie in pvp. PATHETIC
lol this guy
1. place > overcharge > detonate. do that in rapid succession and you’ll create a water field and blast it. if you place it and take too long to overcharge, you’ll have to wait about 3 seconds before the water field will be created. then you can blast it. honestly if you muck up overcharging, better to pick it up than wait for the cooldown.
2. i run 30/30/0/0/10 with elixir r and i don’t use energy sigils. i don’t have any trouble surviving anything from arah to fractal 50.
well in wvwvw the guardian is miles better when you talk about big zerg fights. the engineer is a better roamer though, probably one of the best roamers in the game. i was strictly talking about pve. but anyway you have to remember how the game is designed. skills aren’t separated between pve/pvp. a skill change to better suit one area of the game can drastically change the class in other areas and alter future balance decisions. necro dhuumfire is a good example.
i’ve tried bomb heals. it wasn’t for me. i don’t think it’s a good build and that’s for pve and wvwvw. and tpvp.
Preferably C major because it’s the easiest. Think of all the bands that could form!
engineers can support without gimping their damage. this is what i use.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqSYX3SiF17IyoCdGoH1FgNife8WtFEC-jwBBYfBksAgKAMzsIastBFRjVXDT5iIqGA-e
i’m not sure why you put the guardian on such a high pedestal. in my ideal party, i wouldn’t even bring a guardian. low damage, reflect walls that aren’t needed in any encounter whatsoever (and even if they were the mesmer can cover it), etc. also as a frequent ele player i can safely say i hate running with guardians. every time i try to stack might and fury, BAM AREA RETAL.
my ideal party would be ele, thief, warrior, mesmer, and engi. the engi could be swapped for ranger. but guardians… blegh gross.
med kit is good if you have low crit chance since you can get fury.
it’s also good for glassier builds that run at least 15 into tools because of the double heal.
any other time healing turret is way better
well i’ve taken 2 requests at the reddit thread if you’re interested in learning those.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1xm1kr/sheikh_song_tab_for_the_harp/
ultima online song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X1gC3BLq2w
start on the middle octave
6 7 8 3 8 3 8 3 8 3 → 2 <- 3 8 3 7 3 7 3 7 3 7 3 8 3 6
676 676 676 5 3 2 3
repeat twice. on the 3rd time it ends like this:
676 676 676 5 3 5 6
so after it plays 3 times, it drops an octave and continues but the gw2 harp doesn’t go that low so we’ll stay in the same octave to be able to play everything.
1 3 6 8 3 6 8 6 <-
7 → 2 5 7 2 5 7 5 <-
6 → 3 6 8 3 6 8 6 <-
3 → 2 5 7 2 5 7 5
repeat til finish
and a Windwaker song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-wCNmqwIU8
5 3/5 8 → 3 2 1 <- 7 4/8 6 4 7 5 8 6 5/7 5 4 8 4/6 7 8 → 2 3 1 2 <- 5
3/5 8 → 3 2 1 <- 7 4/8 6 4 7 5 8 6 5/7 8 → 2 3 4 2 <- 7 8 3/8
anyone post this yet?
Just thought I’d share it with you guys.
This is the song that always plays when Sheikh visits you in Ocarina of Time.
-> means go up an octave
<- means go down an octave
A number/number is a chord and you should press both keys together. Example 3/5 so press 3 and 5 together
Start in the middle octave. Here we go!
5/8 5 4/6 3/5 1/3 1 2
5/8 5 4/6 3/5 1/3 5 2
1 2 1/3 5 4/6 8 -> 2 5 1/3 1 2 <-
1 2 1/3 5 4/6 8 -> 2 5 1/3 1 2 <-
5 4/6 8 3/5 4/6 8 3/5 1/3 1 2
repeat
Here’s the song without chords if you don’t like playing them. Doesn’t sound as good obviously.
8 5 6 5 3 1 2
8 5 6 5 3 5 2
1 2 3 5 6 8 -> 2 5 3 1 2 <-
1 2 3 5 6 8 -> 2 5 3 1 2 <-
5 6 8 5 6 8 5 3 1 2
repeat
Enjoy. If I made any mistakes feel free to let me know. If you want to request a song for me to learn and tab it out, also let me know.

i’d be a little sad if this trait wasn’t outclassed by all of the better elixir traits in the tree. but good find nonetheless and i hope anet fixes it. doubt it will be anytime soon.
asuras are the best imo because their backpacks are cute and not oversized and awkward like on every other race.
30/30/0/0/10 full zerk
or 30/30/0/0/10 full ramp if you’re in the husk party
grenades, bombs, elixir s/elixir r/elixir gun
and before anyone asks i have no trouble surviving.
i don’t know if you guys understand this but having grenade kit throw 3 grenades by default is a terrible idea. reducing the power damage does absolutely nothing for condition grenades which encompasses 99% of engineer players in high level pvp. all it will do is promote 20/10/0/30/10 builds which are even more defensive with virtually unchanged damage. the last thing we need is to add to the tanky meta.
and explosives not being viable is a bad joke. have you played any tpvp recently? or pve? or wvwvw?
and finally grenadier is a build defining trait. you put 30 [points into a tree for these build defining traits. illusionary persona is a build defining trait. no mesmer will run a shatter build without it because it will be terrible. grenadier is a build defining trait. no other weapon/kit setup can put out as much condition damage as a grenade build. guardians will go 30 into valor for a meditation build, etc etc etc. the whole point of traits is to strengthen your build. i don’t know why you picked grenadier, which is fine, as a staple of poorly designed traits when horrible, awful, terrible things like diamond skin and automated response exist.
ps all warriors of all builds in pvp run cleansing ire. if you don’t well you’re just gimping yourself. all power thieves run executioner because it’s amazing. condition thieves are garbage in tpvp because they are outclassed by necros, engis, rangers, and warriors and it’s pretty much guaranteed they’ll lose the cap because of all the stealth. it’s the same reason why pu builds are meh.
(edited by ellesee.8297)
they keep attacking you because you have too much toughness. if you’re using a shield, they’ll be drawn to that too. and i don’t know why people complain about grenades. it’s the same thing as bomb kit. you just have to position your cursor.
i still don’t see how it’s badly designed. all shatter mesmers get illusionary persona. all warriors of every build get cleansing ire. all thieves get executioner. these are the top tier traits. without them, all those builds are garbage. if you want an actual poorly designed trait, look at automated response. grenadier is fine.
seems xyonon is correct:
i tested it with 2 fields: light and fire. i overlapped them so part of the fire field was in the light field and part of the fire field was outside. here are my results:
walking through the light field first: area retal
http://www.twitch.tv/livskis/c/3679468
walking through the fire field first: area might
http://www.twitch.tv/livskis/c/3679494
personally i can’t build an engineer without permanent swiftness. if you’re having survivability issues take elixir r, elixir s, tool kit, shield, or some blast finisher to use in your smoke field, rocket boots for example.
i use some $10 dynex mouse i got at radio shack with the back felt part of a framed portrait of my ex as a mousepad. i have no issues playing engi. you don’t need to waste money on a gaming mouse or keyboard or mousepad. i have weapon skills bound to 1-5, heal bound to z, utilities bound to q e r and elite bound to f. toolbelt skills are bound to shift q e r f. make sure you check Use Free Camera in your options.
i also want to say that sigil of force is useless if you’re running conditions. use corruption and be sure to keep those stacks up. running melandru runes is great for defense but really, really hurts your offensive capabilities.
throwing 3 grenades without grenadier is not a good solution. in pvp the 3rd grenade grants extra duration on chill, poison and blind, and it stacks more bleeds with shrapnel grenade, shrapnel, and sharpshooter. reduced power damage will mean nothing. you can be sure people will run 20/10/0/30/10 and you’ll see way more grenade automated response engis or grenade engis with invigorating speed, prot injection, and backpack regen.
grenadier is fine, 30 points is a pretty big investment, grenades are hard to use, etc etc etc
the first field that was put down is the one that will grant bonuses when you combo it. it doesn’t matter which one you enter first, though obviously if you are standing in a smoke field and try to get a burning projectile from a fire field, you will fail. it doesn’t matter which fields pulse.
sometimes the combo field will disappear before the spell animation disappears. that’s probably what is confusing people. i know i’ve tried blasting might on an ele field and being successful 4/5 times when the fire ring was still there.
condition necros are our #1 hard counter. stay away from them.
any other class/build you can beat if you play well.
i don’t like the thumper turret because the cooldown is too long. i have never needed the extra blast finishers when stacking stealth. 7 blasts in a field is cool and all but highly impractical in combat.
republicans take offense and the WBC is lining up to picket the anet offices as we speak.
BUT I would like to see a few evade frames on rocket boots, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been downed mid-air trying to outrun some massive boss hit.
ever get immob’d in midair right after you break an immob? i laugh about it and then i cry.
engis also have 2 water fields with turret. 5 seconds is over the top. healing turret is already one of the best heals in the game in that it heals for a lot, has a short cast time so it is difficult to interrupt, cures conditions, has an extremely short cooldown, gives regen, and provides a huge water field. it doesn’t need any more buffs.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqelIqyX3zSiF1LJyoCdGoC5lIF5nl95hcxWQIA-ToAAzCpI+S9l7LzXyvsfNEZuA
is the standard condi build. probably the best condi class in pvp atm.
i run energy sigil and adventurer runes for more dodges. protection injection and backpack regen for sustain and defense vs thieves, warriors, power engis, and any other high cc build. tool kit block when i get immobilized or otherwise need to block an incoming burst. other than that i just try to kill things quickly. if they’re on the defensive or dead, then they can’t really hurt you.
what bugs are you even talking about? i’m curious.
heavy cc might stacking build with big burst capabilities and decent condition damage.
lyssa is not good on engineers.
as an engineer, i welcome MM builds. more MM necros please.
i think it’s time to swap classes if you think the other ones are just so much better. clearly you don’t enjoy playing the engineer because literally 100% of your posts in these forums are just whining and moaning and complaining even after we’ve told you engineer is a great class and provided proof. why play something you don’t enjoy?
it’s one of my pve builds. can’t really see it working anywhere else.
