The build is designed to bunker anyways, so they should be always close to the turrets.

That was my real problem with turret engi. If you leave a rocket turret at home then it can pretty much win a 1v1 for whoever shows up at that point and the actual engi can be somewhere else being useful.

See these are the kinds of people who complain about turret Engis! They think people lose 1v1 to an AI Rocket Turret and they think that an Engineer being elsewhere without any utilities spamming Hip Shot is useful! Why can’t everyone just quit qqing and get good!

Stronghold will be successful! The main reason is that it’s the first game mode released after probably what will be 3 years of the same boring conquest! People are tired of conquest and will flock to play Stronghold! Stronghold will also bring the WvWers to PvP because it’s similar to the WvW playstyle! And it will bring PvEers to PvP maybe because they advertised that you don’t actually have to be good at the game to play it! But the future of GW2 PvP! Doubt it! I don’t think it will be competitive at all! Just some casual funsies!

• AED is one of the worst heals in the game! Healing Turret is one of the best heals in the game!
• Goggles is poopy! Slick Shoes is the best stunbreak Engineers have with the insanely short cooldown on the stunbreak as well as an extremely potent CC tool with the utility! Elixir Gun and Elixir S are also viable options!
• Elixir C doesn’t give much value for a utility slot! Tool Kit is essential and is run in basically every Engi build because of how powerful it is, especially in combination with rifle! You can pull off amazing high damage and undodgeable burst combos with the two!
• You have no survivability! Even with all that toughness, you will melt without any extra dodges, damage mitigation, passive regen, etc!
• Why Sigil of Earth! It’s a pretty subpar sigil for Engineers and you have no condi damage! Sigil of Strength isn’t that great either! Battle is way better even after the nerf!

FT is pretty goshdarn weak if you use it as your main source of damage! But if I were to make a FT centered build, I’d probably run something like this!

Lowering rank requirements was a good change! I think they should’ve rewarded anyone 65+ before the update but instead those players received the least rewards! LOL! Anet logic! There is no greater #rekt than slaving away for hours at your computer playing this game’s stagnant PvP and Skyhammer for literally years and receiving less rewards than a casual rank 50 player! I’m surprised Chaith, Ostrich Eggs, Marvin, and the other r70+ still play after that huge slap in the face! Well… I know why Chaith still plays! Turret builds are bad. You see a lot of them because it’s literally the easiest build to play and perform well and PvP is filled with casual players who just PvP to grind out their dailies and have no mechanical skill whatsoever. Nobody good at Engi runs turrets unless they’re trolling and even if they are, be thankful they’re not on a real build or they’ll wrecka your face even harder.

That’s silly! Everybody should be allowed to participate in tournaments! Rookie teams and veteran teams! The obvious solution is a tier system! They have this IN LITERALLY EVERY GAME! Except Guild Warts of course! No new team wants to play in these tournaments to face WTS winning teams live in front of the massive (lol) twitch viewership! With tiers, newer teams can face other newer teams and prizes should be awarded to the top 2 teams in each tier after something like a month! There’s your incentive to PvP! There’s your incentive to compete! There’s your incentive to form teams! Alas it’s but a dream….

You are right! But more people =/= more competitiveness! There have been many surges of PvE-ers to PvP with reward tracks and backpieces and new dailies! How did that turn out! Rank farm! Daily farm! For survivability you need to position yourself correctly! There’s a lot of cleave in this meta! Don’t be caught in the crossfire! Stay off the point unless you have to! Use your Gear Shield properly! Gear Shield is one of the best blocks in the game! Dodge big attacks! Watch and learn the animations! Then dodge! Watch and learn some basic rotations! Then dodge!

To do burst damage, learn some combos! A basic combo for condi Engi and one I love to do all the time is Magnet > Prybar > Swap to pistols for Geomancy proc > Static Shot > Wait for dodge then Glue Shot > Shrapnel Grenade! A basic combo for cele Engi is Magnet > Prybar > Overcharge Shot > Start running to your target > Throw Wrench > Net Shot > Blunderbuss > Grenade Barrage! energy sigil alone is equivalent to 100% vigor uptime… and invigorating speed only provides 60% uptime @ 20% boon duration using speedy kits. you have to get swiftness from a source that will not easily play nice with speedy kits’s icd in order to match the dodge frequency provided by energy sigil…

i mean personal dislike is cool, but it really is more dodges than just invigorating speed, which is what youve linked in all 3 places…

You are right that Energy Sigil gives more dodges! But I don’t like only relying on Energy Sigil for dodges! It’s why I run Energy Sigil in my Adventurer Runes build! Extra dodges when you heal! Plus with the huge number of DD Eles and Shoubows in the meta, you’re practically guaranteed to get loads of extra swiftness for invigorating speed! Also the sigils are really tight! Geomancy is required for all condi Engi builds because it’s frickin amazing and there is so much synergy with Leeching and Scavenging Runes that I have to run it!

Is Rune of the Nightmare considered a good rune for P/P condi engi? It increases the uptime of all your condis and the fear can let you chain into your other skills nicely.

Nightmare is the really old Engi meta rune back when sigils didn’t stack and some people opted for smoldering to reach +50% burn duration! I don’t think it’s the best choice for Engi currently! The condi duration bonus is 5% off from reaching any kind of milestone so it’s just wasted! The fear is ok but relying on random procs with long cooldowns isn’t a good tactic! It’s a decent rune for any condi class for sure, but there are much better runes for condi Engi! Balthazar, Adventurer, and Scavenging are the 3 best imo!

Its funny how people are defending lightning whip bug. Imagine if a warr was healing 800 HP per sec instead of 400 with healing Sig. You would cry pretty hard wouldn’t you?

I understand if it gave you 50~ HP/S but its double the amount.. Open your eyes and notice how broken that bug is.

Or just buff the heal of every other class by 100% if you think lighting whip is fair.

If a Warrior was healing 800 hp/sec while at the same time unable to be offensive at all or CC me or cleanse condis, I wouldn’t care! He would die so fast!

Aeroxe, I highly doubt any of these troll comments are serious. But it is a decent way to keep interest in this thread.

This whole Celestial debacle is entirely created by arena nets balancing designs from 2.5 years ago. There is no fix, we are still in the domino effect from them nerfing (mobility [things like Lf, Rtl, ect) and burst. They can’t target ele’s or Cele cause they will go back to being a lootbag. They can’t target the real problem (burst healing, healing over time) cause they added a bunch of crap to other classes + ele. (multiple cond procs, passive immunities, random procs, ect)

Ele vs s/d thieve at launch was a 50/50 fight. (they used to be my favorite class to duel) They will never get that split again sadly.

So sit back and enjoy the ride, Whatever they decide to change should be hilarious.

I played PvP today for the first time in a while and the first time since the leaderboards update! I played 3-4 games with some frands and they were all blowouts! Not saying it’s Arenanet’s fault! There probably weren’t enough people online to match our MMRs! It’s good that Justin is working hard to make matchmaking the best it can be, but I feel a big factor is that the community is tiny! The competitive community is even tinier! If you want an idea, there should be more work done trying to get more people to play the game! More people = better matchmaking! Every time I queue up for a ranked game in Counter Strikes, I always get 9 other people extremely close to my rating! That’s just because Counter Strikes has way more people playing!

Why is nerfing other Ele builds through nerfing vigor an issue? Literally every class that had permanent vigor had their uptime slashed in half! Every build that those classes could run were nerfed because all nearly all PvP builds run vigor! Elementalist is the only exception! Well goshdarn it my frands this should be the first thing they need to change! Bring Elementalist vigor uptime in line with the rest of us! Who do they think they are with their permanent vigor uptime! Fancypants!

Vee Wee has all the WvW tournament titles and is like rank ~250! It’s not the highest but it’s hardly “limited WvW experience!”

Anyway we’ve had this discussion before! The Engineer hsa two defensive trait lines: Alchemy and Inventions! Alchemy is miles ahead of Inventions in overall usefulness! Taking Inventions over Alchemy is just foolish and taking both just gimps your offensive power! This is why Inventions is bad!

Spending 20 points to get Power Shoes is just a waste of points! You can spend half the amount to get Speedy Kits which gives more movement speed (which is more useful in WvW anyway) and you can spend the other half in Alchemy for vigor for dodges, which is the single most important thing in GW2 combat! The trait that gives protection in Inventions also literally has 4x the cooldown for the same boon duration! It is beyond me why anyone would waste points into the Inventions tree! I expect you’ll just ignore this though and the next time I post about the Inventions tree, you’ll interject and hilariously tell me how good the trait line is!

You should probably stop getting mad at your team and focus on how you’re playing! Win or lose you should be happy if you played well! At least that was Vee Wee’s mentality! Maybe it’s just Stockholm syndrome because Vee Wee only played solo q in team arenas! And Vee Wee’s win rate is ~60% which is good considering how bad it was back when Vee Wee was new to PvP! If there is one piece of advice I could give to other Engis, it would be to never ever place points into the Inventions tree! It is by far the worst trait line that Engineers have, and in Vee Wee’s opinion one of the worst trait lines out of every single class! Take Speedy Kits! You’ll never outrun anything with just Power Shoes and outrunning things is how you stay alive if you find yourself overwhelmed! For WvW it’s good to have more mobility than permanent swiftness! Take Elixir Gun or Rocket Boots instead of Elixir S! Elixir Gun has the added benefit of a stunbreak and the leap skill is on a shorter cooldown! On the other hand Acid Bomb will most likely place you into combat slowing your move speed if someone chasing you steps in the lingering AoE! Rocket Boots will launch you forward a greater distance and breaks off all movement impairing effects and has an additional burn, which is your strongest condition but there is no stunbreak, which is mitigated in combat by Protection Injection!

Without Grenade Kit you’ll be really gimping yourself at range but I guess we can work around that! For starters, you’ll want to get 30 into Explosives! The extra 10% condi duration is essential! Also since your main and really only source of really damaging conditions is Bomb Kit so you’ll want to take Short Fuse to lower the cooldown of your bombs! Make sure to spam Fragmentation Shot/Tranquilizer Dart at range! It’s a really weak auto attack but a very reliable way to proc Incendiary Powder!

For gear Vee Wee personally uses Adventurer Runes with Sigil of Energy! This way, Vee Wee only has to spend 20 into Alchemy and get both Protection Injection and Backpack Regenerator without fearing a lack of dodge rolls! You’ll also want to take Geomancy Sigil! Without the Grenade Kit, you’ll be sorely lacking in bleeds so yeah! Also Geomancy is miles better than Earth Sigil for Engineers! A gr8 combo Vee Wee uses is Magnet > Prybar > swap to pistols for Geomancy proc, Static Shot! They’ll have 7 stacks of confusion, blind, bleeds, and burning from Incendiary Powder on them after this combo and they will probably use a dodge roll after! Usually everybody dodge rolls immediately after getting hit by Magnet! If you don’t like Geomancy, you can use Sigil of Tormenting! It adds another, semi damaging condition that can cover your burns from being cleansed and it’s AoE!

You can also use Nightmare Runes to try to reach 100% condi duration! It is a bit expensive keeping up with the food buffs though! You also said you’d rather use P/P, but honestly P/P is only really good if you’re lacking in burns! With Bomb Kit you have plenty of burn uptime so Vee Wee has to recommend using the offhand shield! Plus you can blast your fire bomb for might or smoke bomb for stealth, which can really save your life!

So all together, Vee Wee would recommend something like this!

New people can’t get into the game because there are no new people! It costs $40 and many of the recent GW2 reviews and the current PvP playerbase show dissatisfaction with the quality of the game with good reason!

There is no demo! Vee Wee personally believes Guild Warts 2 is a gr8 game! But who’s going to take Vee Wee’s word for it! There needs to be a demo like World of Wartcraft to show people what they’re going to be spending money on! One weekend trial period every 6 months doesn’t really cut it! Back in the day when this game still cost $60, Vee Wee used to try to get people to play this game! None of them wanted to play without playing a demo first! And then Vee Wee’s frands that started playing with Vee Wee at launch all quit! Because of the next reason! Frandless

There is only one game mode! How can you get new people to come play this game if the game is old and stale! When people think PvP, they think about competing against other players! They don’t think about standing on points for the entire game! Seriously conquest is just old and boring! It became old and boring 2 years ago! It’s not esports even if Anet hands thousands of dollars to the same players every 6 months! There’s no competition at all! Arenas would be so easy to implement! The maps would take way shorter time to design than conquest maps! But Anet is content to outsource this game mode to ESL and Mistpedia which is a huge joke! And again there’s no competition whatsoever so the same people win these things time and time again!

There’s also no tiers for these tournaments, so you have average teams facing off against the best teams in the world for the prize! Yeah nobody wants to do that, especially on stream where twitch chat is the most disgusting place and you’ll be publicly ridiculed in front of thousands, wait sorry hundreds, of people! That’s a pretty big reason why you don’t see many new teams forming! Why bother going through the hassle of finding four other like-minded players only to get 500-0’d by the best team in the world just because the population is TOO DAM TINY for this game to have ladders!

• If someone wants to level as condi, they should be allowed to level as condi! I leveled a Necro as condi and it was super fast! This was even before they added Tainted Shackles! It’s like some people just enjoy sapping the fun out of everything other people do! Crazy!
• Incendiary Powder is what turns condi Engi from a mediocre condi build to a condi powerhouse! Burning is the strongest condition if you don’t count traited fear! More burns = faster kills!
• I fail to see how a single blast finisher that pushes the bad guys out of your Bomb Kit burning AoE with an extremely long cooldown is better than an Engi’s strongest form of AoE burning with a really short cooldown and extra kiting potential for leveling!
• You can absolutely use Grenade Kit for leveling! Sure it’s not as potent as it can be without the Grenadier trait, but it still applies bleeds, blind, and chill for kiting! You don’t have to pick Grenade Kit or Bomb Kit! You take both for leveling! It’s what I did and leveling was a blast! Pun intended!

Power grenades works great! Grenade Barrage can literally 100-0 certain people with a zerker build and the Magnet > Prybar > Overcharge Shot > Throw Wrench > Net Shot > grenade combo is devastating! If you just zerg around you can run a full Berserker! Vee Wee uses PvE gear in when playing with a giant blob to great effect! Hardly any survivability issues if you position yourself correctly! Power grenades does a lot of damage! If you plan on doing some solo stuff though or if you just have issues surviving, I recommend Hiba’s hybrid WvW build! Hiba is a pretty good Engi who plays at high levels and even won the Tournament of Legends! He uses Knights armor with Celestial accessories! Both damage and sustain are pretty high!

But if you want to keep your current gear, that’s fine as well for zerging! You should use Strength or Hoelbrak Runes to boost your might stacking potential! Grenade Kit does really good power damage, but also does really good condition damage! Stacking might will improve both aspects! With Sigil of Battle you can get a near permanent 9 stacks of might on yourself with Strength/Hoelbreak Runes! You can use Sigil of Fire for your second one! It’s a nice aoe burst that compliments your already powerful AoE damage! Force and Accuracy are pretty meh when facing against other people! There are better sigils out there! If you plan on doing more roaming, Sigil of Intelligence is really good and makes the above combo really nasty!

As for food buffs, use the +40% condi duration one! That’s a given!

Glue Shot is really good! It’s an unblockable immobilize that sets up your next attack (usually Blowtorch!) When they buffed the projectile speed, they made it perfect!

Leveling an Engi with condi is the same as leveling one with power! This is because the best power kits are also the best condi kits! First grab two pistols because that’s the most potent weapon set you have for spreading conditions! Then you’ll want to unlock Grenade and Bomb Kits! These are your offensive kits and the best way to apply many condis! From there it’ll be easy to just run around completing hearts and grabbing map completion! With both Grenade and Bomb Kits you can just mob up 10 different things and AoE all of them down! Simple! And you’ll have an easy time kiting them around with your various chills, cripples, and immobilizes! Your last slot can be something like Elixir Gun for a stunbreak and movement, or Rocket Boots for movement, or even Tool Kit for extra kiting potential and defensive cooldowns if you really need it! Flamethrower can be good too! The main thing is to practice swapping in and out of kits/weapons! That’s what makes a good Engineer!

For traits, you’ll want to put 2 points into Tools for Speedy Kits! Get that first! It will give you permanent swiftness and the faster you get to places, the faster you can level! Even though Explosives is the stronger tree, if you plan on leveling as condi, grab 2 points into the Firearms tree first for Hair Trigger before you go into Explosives! This will give you additional condi damage and reduce the cooldowns for your Blowtorch and Static Shot! From there you can put all your points into Explosives for Forceful Explosives/Shrapnel, Incendiary Powder, and Grenadier! Incendiary Powder is what makes a condi Engi strong and all condi Engis should run this trait!

For gear you should obviously just get condition damage with condition/precision at 20! Then at 55 grab power/precision/condition damage gear since, again, Grenade and Bomb Kits deal high power damage as well as condi! For leveling, I like to always have a Minor Sigil of Corruption and Geomancy in your weapons for extra damage! At 80 if you wanna gear for just the husks, Sinister stats would be the best! If you want to share condi gear for WvW, Vee Wee personally runs Dire armor and weapons with Rabid accessories with Geomancy/Energy sigils and Adventurer Runes! Celestial stats are better for a more power oriented hybrid build! Don’t use celestial for a condi focused build!

If you want a build, this is Vee Wee’s PvP build that Vee Wee made over a year and a half ago! Vee Wee also uses this for WvW with great success!

PS: If you’ve never played Engi before, learn how to use the Healing Turret! It’s easily one of the best heals in the game! You should place it, overcharge it immediately, and then either pick it up for a shorter cooldown, or detonate it immediately for a larger heal!

Stop complaining about not having people to play with at your level! The PvP community is too tiny! There’s like maybe 12 people who play really competitively at high levels on NA! Even if the leaderboards and MMRs and solo/team Qs were perfect, you still wouldn’t find any competition because there’s nobody to match you with! The competitive aspect of this game is stagnant and will continue to remain so until Anet finds a way to get more people to play Guild Warts 2! So please get off your high horse because this whole situation is akin to running for office unopposed! Are you really going to flex because you won! Get good son!

As for the rest of the people, the leaderboards should display who’s the best at the game and not who has the most games played! This point system is foolish! Get good sons!
