I missed my rewards too. I play wvw all the time, it’s just not my habit to talk to the battle historian and I assumed this season, like the last two, would give all rewards at the end of the tournament. Yeah they told me in text but I missed it since most of the messages the game sends me can be skimmed and immediately deleted.
This sucks.
Been wondering this since the patch, serious inconvenience for any guild getting food/blueprints/etc on a map with no upgraded keep.
I missed the explanation because i’ve played both previous tournaments and assumed it would be a chest at the end like before. I lost my reward completely… why do it this way?
This really sucks, I just made a new character and he’s level 29 now, and also can’t use the diving goggles. Not only does it suck that this fun content is effectively removed from the game, but the item being there and unusable would be actually confusing for anyone new.
That’s all it’s for? I have like seven map pieces clogging my inventory… let down
An auto-clicker would, at least, click twice per one click to buy things. Otherwise, it would useless. They made it clear, long ago, that is an unacceptable macro.
What we did get the definite “OK” to do is to use a third-party to bind ‘left click’ to ‘scroll up’ or ‘scroll down’ on the mouse wheel. This way you’re only executing “one click” but you can do it very rapidly.
Unless you had a macro for a huge amount of clicks, I’d think it’d be hard to track tbh. But if you want to be safe, the above method was given a thumbs up in a discussion about 6-8 months ago.
How do you do this? And does it interfere with other gameplay? (scrolling menus, and I use mouse 3 for elite skill)
Poking again because this needs fix asap.
I stumbled across coil farm on an empty map- just saw the potential for some nice loot and later came to the same spot in an instance where people were farming.
There is rude and nasty behavior on both sides, though I have also observed that people indignant that anyone would farm in the game instigate way more bitterness and drama than people who just want to get their story.
I agree- no one owns the map. No one is more entitled to anything. But if we want to play nicely together and stop this nastiness, that means not only that the group shouldn’t bully individuals (please report those who do), but individuals shouldn’t go out of their way to spite the group out of judgement and some sense of justice. Saying “You don’t own the map!” and then camping the event others are working together to benefit from is like adding the addendum, “I do! It’s MY map!”
I have only visited coil a few times and i’ve found this situation any time there is conflict. Farmers ask the one completing the event to please cooperate, or leave the map. Usually the person will cooperate. It’s always been someone who isn’t even thinking about the story who refuses and instead insists, “No! All of YOU leave the map!” (My map!! All mine!!)
Personally I wouldn’t bother with farming, but lately the living story content has become account bound item rewards and there’s no way to really profit from just playing the game as intended. The last three chapters have in fact been a gold sink, with the exclusive skins costing materials without any coin gain. Compounded by the grossly inflated gold prices and for me to finish collecting the last 500 t6 mats needed for my legendary would take several months or maybe a year. I don’t want to spend two hours a day circling level 80 zones killing one monster at a time to pick up my 5 t6 mats a day. I’d rather spend 30-40 mins farming efficiently, and go back to less profitable, but more fun play such as wvw, pvp, or low level exploration.
As for “Just run dungeons for the 1g”, after running all three paths of several dungeons every day or every other day I got thoroughly burned out. It’s not fun anymore and an alternative helps keep me playing. I see very little difference between the coil event and the temples in orr, for instance. If the grenth event were done with 7 people, maybe it could be considered working for the loot, but it’s always 80 people crowded in the temple spamming 1 just as brainlessly as any coil farmer.
If every bit of farming in this game gets nerfed I wouldn’t mind, so long as the economy heals from all this inflation and 1g is worth something again so I never have to farm again.
After listening to them when I first installed the game, the response was generally “Oooh! Shall we try a heart first? Or what about that skill point thing? I’ve nearly finished unlocking my pistol 3 attack – let’s go to the heart and I’ll unlock it while I’m there.”
After making my first character since the changes, I was left with that….“so what should I do until level 10?” feeling. Then I lazily went and “killed stuff”.
This eloquently describes my first experience a year and a half ago, and what happened when I tried the NPE a week ago. Before, it was a big sampler of things I didn’t know if I was allowed to do, but the game invited me to do them (and shock, I could! I was surprisingly strong for fresh out of the pod lv2!).
Now I felt more like I was being set on rails. Like I was supposed to be going somewhere specific, huge emphasis on leveling up since everything is locked until I do, and if I didnt enjoy that i’d just have to get through it to get further because as a newbie i’m too weak to go off the rails. It feels more like I can’t actually play the game until I level up enough. It’s not about the journey so much now but getting to the destination fast.
ohhh its disheartening such good threads (linked above) were made about this serious issue long ago and nothing came of them.
“Don’t use an autoclicker”, “Click through 500 of something, you have no other option”.
Repetitive strain injuries can permanently cripple a person’s ability to use a computer- permanently as in the rest of their life… come on, Anet. Please. Right click consume all, purchase in bulk options can’t be that hard to implement.
It is pretty difficult to navigate. Usually I get lost trying to find my way back out of it.
I’ve had an awesome time 1v1ing another hammer guardian, tallying who gets the most banishes successfully on the other. It’s like strategic grabass, having to keep track of your aegis, blind, dodge and block (as well as the other guy’s). Great practice and banish is sooo satisfying when it connects. (my best score was 11 to 2, for posterity)
Last week i read a post of Chris, in which he basically apologized for maybe not being able to post for a day because his daughter was sick and other family issues.
I really appreciate all his hard work and time he spent on the forums during the last weeks but I kinda find it disturbing that he feels he has to apologize in advance and explain himself if he doesnt post for a day, while alot of his posts came in after work or on the weekend anyways.
Kinda shows how demanding the forum users are.
I agree but I certainly don’t want to be running anyone into the ground or causing health issues/keeping someone from family life. I don’t want a crucifiction or sacrifice, which is why I say if it’s too big of a job for someone who already has a lot of duties on the team, opening a new position just for interacting with the players would go a long way in relieving a lot of the mounting tension.
I know there is plenty of overly emotional/dramatic tirade spam on the forums. I just want to know that the thoughtful and constructive conversation about game issues isn’t just a fart in the wind that is being ignored and that Anet would rather not interact with the players who are doing their best to meaningfully communicate.
The Communicating With You thread has been closed, and though I understand as it was a mess, it was also the only thread with regular responses from any member of anet staff. I know people jumped into the thread because we all feel like we’re just talking into space with no response. In that thread we were able to have a conversation, rather than just flinging our thoughts at the wall, and an outpouring of gratitude and relief followed.
In that thread it was suggested there should be a role on the anet team for someone to just interact with players on the forums and I hope that isn’t forgotten. There are so many issues right now with the game (be they bugs or intentional features), and so much unrest among dedicated and long time players that I would hate to see all of Chris’ efforts to reach out to us rendered pointless from a relapse into dev silence. I and others felt hope for being heard- but it could easily be false and wasted hope.
It’s probably too much for one person, and definitely too much for someone who already has a lot on their plate. But right now I don’t think i’m the only one who feels we lack a bridge between anet and players and it is causing continuous tension.
Updated Edana’s look, got tired of the generic fire mage look.
The goal here was a more celestial look, to achieve this I used silver, regal and antique gold for the dye.
The armor pieces use are:
Magnus Right Eye Patch
Student Mantle (Shoulders)
Seer GlovesAscended boots, top and pants.
As for the weapon, it is the zodiac staff.
Nice, its hard to break away from the fire theme for light armor and this looks great.
I believe someone did the math for this… Didn’t it work out to 1 yak every minute for five years?
I used to want Ultimate Chaperone and have walked over 1700 yaks… but i’ve completely given up, if they are even achievable they’re not worth it imo. At least killing the yaks can be a fast process.
Maybe it’s humans taking trophies like in the past when they would take charr hides, or centaur manes, or gargoyle skulls . . .
I would really, REALLY hope not.
These are sentient creatures, and while we may be at war with them, there should be limits on how nasty we will be. Honestly, we’ve seen that they can even be potential allies (Dry Top, the (missing?) historian centaur in LA).
As bad as it is to think that humans might be doing that, what about the sylvari? I simply can’t imagine any grove sylvari cutting off a centaur’s hooves as trophies.
Imo all the in-game dialogue encouraging every player to “kill everything on four legs” etc is pretty messed up, since it seems the centaurs were the first stewards of the land and trying to protect what is theirs from the invading humans… And why is Ventari’s appearance so beautiful compared to the rest? If it were just the characters in the game who were pro-genocide, that’s world building. But when the game itself is pushing it, it’s uncomfortable.
My first playthrough the 100% “kill every centaur on sight and dont think about it” lore wigged me out and turned me off, despite how much I liked most everything else.
Personally, I would love a heavy class that uses water weapons on land.
Spear:
<snip>
Direct damage, Immoblize, Cripple. Melee but extended range (130->195)
Harpoon Gun:
Pulling and general CC. High range (1200).
Trident:
Conditions, similarly themed to Elementalist. Medium range (900).
I always thought the third soldier should use polearms, also. Though I want another class that can use mace, longbow or shortbow since currently they’re only useable by 2 classes. It may not fit the lore but I think a lancer would be very cool.
seriously annoying!!
I thought it was a reference to the Musicians of Bremen folktale:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Town_Musicians_of_Bremen
My main has changed over time, as i’ve found different roles more or less rewarding. I used to find staff elementalist the most fun and useful but recent changes have motivated me to play ranger instead.
I suggest you roll a few different classes and take them into spvp mode so you can play with all your traits/gear options and try them out. Thankfully you won’t need time investment in spvp to open/unlock the class’ abilities, so if you don’t like the class you can scrap it and roll another.
In pvp I play most often in this order: Ele, Ranger, Guard, Mesmer
In pve: Guard, War, Ele, Ranger, Mes, Thief
I don’t play engi much because it’s overwhelming and I don’t find it as fun, and I’m still learning necro.
But like everyone else has said it varies from person to person.
Holy cow. This really needs to be fixed, finishing my enemies and seeing that plain spike instead of my hand picked finishers is a disappointment.
I’m disappointed to have the chance to play with you pushed back again but hope things will get better for you soon, Chris.
If playing together just isn’t practical it’s understandable with the amount on your plate, please just say so clearly so I’m not looking forward to something that won’t work out for you.
Personal opinion:
- Farmers can ruin the in game immersion for players who enjoy exploring the environment for the sake of it, rather than for accumulating fake currency. In some instances farming trains can also be aggressive toward people playing the game as is natural to them without being aware of which events need to be played which way for maximum loot. So it may incline people to feel farmers play in a greedy, pushy way.
- Farming can be relaxing and making good profit for time invested is welcome when working on a legendary, for example, which is an immense time investment already and may take months. But at the end of the day, the money, the items, etc, are not real. Being upset or “working” if it’s not fun, means that I am spending many hours of my life unhappy for no real or lasting gain.
Repeating:
I do not want to and probably will not experiment with builds while this trait system is in place.
For how much customizing finishers has been pushed, this is a pretty glaring annoyance.
I’ve been playing a fresh character since the feature pack launched, and I’m doing it without xp scrolls/tomes. Honestly, it hasn’t been as bad as one would think reading these forums, though a few things are rather awkward and/or annoying.
The sheer amount of unsalvageable rewards I get from leveling up and doing the Personal Story makes me feel very unrewarded. I’m continually having to buy the same runes and sigils because only rarely can I attempt to retrieve them from old equipment. Also, right-click -> destroy is a very unsatisfactory thing to have to do to equipment I grow out of. (Maybe some of those things are allowed into the Mystic Forge, I haven’t tried.) Why aren’t we allowed to just merch/salvage all those things? Surely it won’t break the economy, there’s no exploit or farming issue to consider here.)
Another thing: when I work my way through zones in pursuit of my personal story, a lot of the time I find myself in areas that are intended for a much lower level than my character’s current level. This means that there’s hardly ever an interesting purchase to be made at a heart karma merchant. This was never a problem before the feature pack, and is obviously a consequence of the personal story level gating. I don’t know what could be done about this, but it needs be said, it feels very off.
Agree with this!
This keeps happening to me too. Every time I start the client it crashes once before it will work.
Chris, your inbox is full again (they should change your limit to be higher!). You said you’d like to play together today, what time will you be in game?
The first 19 levels on my new character I haven’t noticed a change, I don’t doubt that it’s there but have gotten more non-useable drops than not. (not complaining!)
Running the game on the exact same graphics as before the patch (auto detect) is resulting in the kind of lag I only used to get when running the game on highest graphics. If I want any kind of decent frame rate it’s potato mode or nothing. I only used to need potato mode for big wvw zergs and pvp :
When the combat mechanics, wvw matchups, story, and pretty much everything else in the game lets me down, there’s always going for a walk in an area i’ve spent hundreds of hours in and finding something new. These little details and the amount of unrewarded exploration there is to do keeps me from quitting this game.
Be careful what you wish for, eyestrain, for the catacombs might get nerfed once again. Right now the right amount of 80lvl players for this dungeon is 3. 2 will do too, most likely.
ughh god i shouldn’t have said anything PLEASE do not nerf more content T_T
If anyone wants to change AC please make it something other than “exterminate the rats in the basement”
(also story has been nerfed hard since the last time i played it, there was no need to know any enemy behaviors or mechanics since we could just stand on them and 1111.)
(edited by eyestrain.3056)
Earlier today I took a team of fresh newbies on their first dungeon run through AC. I chose story mode because it’s so easy you can stand in the necro wells and come out smelling like roses. The new players most enjoyed the opening cutscene and were relieved at the end that they didn’t wipe horribly their first time. I hate to think how hard it’s going to be on them to go into explorable mode without access to stability, condi cleanse, traits, or high dps. It’s a level 35 dungeon but with so many things missing from their builds I don’t think it’s fair to level 35 players. People new to the game won’t understand skill isn’t the reason things are going badly, especially when the game has been holding and petting their hands up to that point and assuring them they’ve got the combat system down and combat doesn’t require utilities or traits.
Is this related to why the guild registrar NPCs no longer allow guild bank access? Very inconvenient, been wondering if it’s a bug.
As much as I appreciate Anet changing the locked content to apply only to new accounts/players, it concerns me that the solution is just to put blinders on the experienced players and keep plowing ahead. No, I don’t want these level gates on my alts, but just because it doesn’t directly inconvenience me the same way it will newbies doesn’t mean it won’t affect me in the long term.
I’m glad the nerf hit everyone across the board, so we could all have a taste of the new flavor of gw2 and what Anet wants. The huge response has been good imo- Anet needs to know about the flaws in the system as much as we are anxious to tell them. But if their reaction to hearing what is problematic is to nod and say, ‘no, that’s what we want and we know best’ I really hope they are right. Many of the things I found refreshing and addicting about this game are the things being removed and altered for new players. They are aiming at players unlike myself, and maybe it will be the right strategy for them. Maybe it’ll bring in tens of thousands of new players and they’ll all adapt into the end game systems over time and put in over 4k hours like I have gladly done. But I am sad for the new players like me who will feel stifled, confused and bored by this system and walk away for good. Those are the players i’d probably hit it off with the best.
I truly hope the adventurous, freespirited people gw2 was originally created for get into the game, manage to have fun through the grind and make it to 80, and somehow get their traits so they can have a chance to enjoy the true flexibility and creativity the game has to offer. We need new people coming in, falling in love and staying, because too many friends have already left (not due to the patch but the myriad reasons that have been discussed ad nauseum on the forums for the last year).
I’ve decided to hunt newbies and try to help them through, partially out of altruism and partially because with my wvw guilds dead the only thing left for me in this game is to grind t6 mats.
tl;dr even if veteran players don’t have to see the levelgating it’s still going to affect everyone.
Inclined to agree with you, Sleepwalker.
funny thing before i left any of the started areas i was always close to level 40 way overleveled the old way now that they took so much stuff out that i liked i want to get out before im supposed to be out
Same.
You’re definitely not the only one saddened:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/What-did-you-do-to-Metrica-Province
From my experience playing a new character:
1. Unlocking skills all at once per weapon was more confusing for me, and more boring. Previously fights didnt feel like grind because I was unlocking skills along the way, and I had more time with one skill to feel what it did. Now I get a bunch at once and am slowed down by having to read every tool tip over and over and I don’t remember what each skill does as well.
2. Not gaining skill points each level… even with the big message saying i’m being rewarded and that i’ve “unlocked” things (many things arent locked to begin with) I dont feel each level is giving me progress toward new abilities.
3. The level up menu gives vague, incomplete information and if I want it off the screen quickly there’s no way for me to figure out later what it was telling me. It takes up the whole screen so if you impulse click on it in combat there’s no time to hover your mouse or click the things it wants you to. In my opinion a true tutorial in controlled instances would be better than these obtrusive, only half-informative, and easily missed pop ups.
4. Some world-building dialogue/heart quest options have been removed (the inquest no longer try to recruit you, no golem chess, you can’t feed bear cubs or play as a sylvan hound). What drew me to gw2 was its world, characters, visuals. These charming details help it stand out from the “kill 45 crawfish to proceed” competitors. Their absence is missed.
5. I am seriously not looking forward to buying/unlocking all of my traits.

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!!
I tried sending Chris a message but his inbox was full again, so I’ll post it here:
I messaged you before about playing together and have held off leveling my new character, just in case (I tend to level up fast). If you’re stressed out and don’t want to play anymore it’s ok. It’s been good of you to try and talk with people in the thread even though it doesnt seem to be your job and I know a lot of people are upset.
Take care,
eye
Dear OP,
Have you considered being cuter? Pondered becoming a pinch more pulchritudinous? Revving up the old Razzle-Dazzle?
I mean, the constant stream of admirers seeking photo ops with me can get a little smelly (at least the adventurers swarming you aren’t all sweaty and out of breath) but at the end of the day, it feels good to give back to my adoring fans.
Just a thought!
Ta Darling,

I think the jarring transition from the edges-rounded-off changed starter areas and the rest of the game is going to be a issue in the future. I think what everyone has feared from the release of this patch is that in an attempt to make that transition less jarring, they’re going to keep rounding off edges and removing content.
I hope not, but it seems like the next step since they’re dedicated to this idea of “no small parts to choke on”.
Glad I read this here and didn’t try it out myself as I was tempted to do (I like exploration, but that sounds like a real carrot-and-stick).
It doesn’t have at all the same punch but if you’re desperate there’s a wolf-looking transformation called Plant Dog tonic. Strangely not fern hound, but wolf appearance.
Check out this one too:

(a nice look back as we enter the third wvw season)
I was surprised to see the “move to another map” prompt in the pvp lobby. That pve buff tho
Please remove traits from Orr temples. I really cannot comprehend, even months later why you would appease people who deprive others by adding traits to defense events.
It’s really pretty bad when you can, by simply playing the game and doing an event, conflict with and deprive others of rewards. People who have potentially been waiting in a map for hours to get their daily rewards.
It’s WORSE now, because there’s new content in the form of a new recipe that is only obtainable from temple chests.
It’s really quite silly to me that you’re moving trait unocks away from map completion, and yet still haven’t done anything about the Temple traits. I would rather complete maps all day long than even bother to sit in a map all day, scanning LFG, attempting to get my chance at a temple chest that rarely happens anymore.
At the very least, if you’re going to go as far as making temple defends reward traits, make defense reward the full ground chest and daily bonus. Or just undo this unnecessary change, and move the traits elsewhere.
Orr is emptier than ever before now, mostly filled with foxfire harvesters and people camping for temple defense traits. I miss being able to run temple metas.
Agreed, again I feel this is a conflict of interest between players. Rather than being able to be cooperative people are set against each other based on what their goal is. The loot or the traits.
I also agree with dropping the trait costs. It may just be me but lately I haven’t been able to make gold as quickly and easily as I could a few months ago. The recent living story events have had so much account bound reward that I can’t profit off of my time spent in game the way I could from the boss blitz event for example.
I don’t like to grind dungeons endlessly or play the AH, so I don’t think I’m the target of the gold sinks, but I am affected anyway.
