Thief Attacking while stealthed?

He didn’t use Unload
The first skill on the P/D has a stealth version Neak Attack which is very similar to unload, it does five rapid attacks and stacks up some bleeds. The dagger off hand takes care of getting into stealth. It’s a dangerous build to come across.
Wvw is full of wildlife and objects to get a C&D off.

If you are 100% certain they did not use C&D you should report it as a hacking incident,

You can get Ascended rings and amulets from the Laurel vendor, in fact the Laurel vendor is the ONLY (besides Triforge) place to get Ascended amulets.

At a rate of 1 item per month if you do dailies every day. Pure grind.

Thay may still believe that but at the end of the day there still a business and there in it to make a profit. You may believe that people like you who want only horizontal are the majority but thats just not true.

I don’t see how they can make money from gear grind, on the contrary. Either way, I am not going to grind for gear in order to be able to play the only part of the game that has some lasting interest.

As is Anet is trying to compromise, giveing us new tears of gear but without forceing us to have them in order to do content.

The power difference is to great, you won’t stand a chance in exotics going against a player in ascended. And as it stands, ascended gear is too much of a grind to acquire.

I think in retrospect ANet was a bit disappointed in how readily available Exotic gear is in game. You can buy it off the TP for a few Gold, 42k Karma isn’t all that much either in today’s GW2 etc. etc.

Why would they be, GW1 had max level gear available even easier (and it became even easier with EotN).

People do need a little grind in endgame otherwise gear doesn’t feel like an accomplishment.

People need fun and challenging content that feels like an accomplishment when completed successfully.

…I still think that it’s a game that GW1 vets can appreciate even with item/level progression. …

I don’t, actually. GW1 had far more interesting combat, missions with diverse goals, each one requiring different approach. GW2 lacks that. If they’d kept GW1’s missions and made the rest non-instanced open world, with events and hearts, it would have been much, much better.

Ah well, the new Tombraider is about to be released.

If you want efficient dungeon runs, setup a guild to do so. Expecting a random pick-up group to full-fill your needs for a efficient task force is folly. A pug is for fun and meeting people.

Oh, and it’s a game, where people log on to have fun, enjoy themselves, chat with each other and sometimes take on a challenge, expecting all the people around you to focus on being ‘effective’ is a certain method to become frustrated.

Also, in a lot of cases, the elitists get frustrated by the (perceived) incompetence from the ones they harass. …

They have different idea’s about how they want to spend their online time. These so called elitists get frustrated by their own lack in understanding this difference.

I never forgot what gaming was, if anything, I’d quit the game by now if I didn’t have any fun. (why play a game I hate???)
Efficiency IS fun for some of us! Sorry but running the same path hundreds of times is just not fun, no matter the time gap between each run.
But speedrunning it? and having the rush feeling involved? yes please.

If you say “running the same path hundreds of times is just not fun” while still doing it then you have forgotten what gaming was.

More something between the bikini and the trench coat, like the tier 1 cultural but with more variation because, unlike the leather bikini, it looks like it’s only suitable for indoor use.

The main problem with the coats and skirts is that they look like upside-down trumpets, the karma coat would be cool if it was straight.

That is one crit – and requires a grandmaster trait which might have a better use. Same can be said on the sigil. Having one or 5 guaranteed crits is rather different

And the Thief, amazingly enough, has a similar Signet for 15% damage :O. Omgrz! And that’s mathematically stronger than 5 autocrits!

Eh, no it’s not. A crit can hit for 150-250% damage, which is way more the 115% damage

Ironic as it is, the history of the Durmand Priory in this discussion is irrelevant …

It’s a strength of each of these orders to focus on their core interest and bring together individuals that share that interest regardless of race. I find it interesting that it these open organisations were born from the two more war-minded species, the human and charr.

I’d contest your assertion about humans being a unifying force, starting with pointing out that the human-charr conflict is actually the greatest dividing force among the races, but it’s actually not really relevant.

It’s mainly the Charr that kept the conflict going, for more then a millenium.

Humans take the biggest risks by (a) giving the artefact to the Charr and (b) allowing them closer to Ebonhawke

The reason it’s not relevant is that the unification happened before the Pact saw the first Orrian shrine, and after that, they were committed.

Without the truce between the Charr and Kryta there would be no Pact. Enabling this alliance against the Dragons was an important motivation behind the the truce. Speculations about humans bailing out of the pact are pointless.

… if Zhaitan did feel that it was better for psychological or practical reasons to use the cathedrals as central conduits, then at the very least he could place the cathedral’s statue effect over the cathedral itself to make it that much more difficult to dislodge.

That he doesn’t indicates that Zhaitan’s use of the statues is confined by the properties of a magic not entirely his own – the corrupted divine power remaining within the shrines and temples of Orr.

That’s interesting, the temples and statues could form a passive network usable for either divine or dragon magic, we could never tell from this network if what we see is dragin magic or (corrupted) divine magic. But if there is a divine power preventing the dragon from pulling his tricks there then that would rather indicate this power is not corrupted.
Perhaps the uncorrupted passage you see in the events is even the result of direct intervention from the human deities?

Thieves can autocrit from stealth. Anyone can autocrit on a weapon swap.

The actual situation, the amount of health, skills on cooldown, you had just before you got backstabbed, lightning smitten or hundred bladed make the real difference.

Just commenting on the reaction time post. Anticipation is generally a better approach anyway and if you know what to expect you can skip the evaluation and decision making process.

Culling has nothing to do with polygon count.
The amount of data sent to clients does take a part however and the change with the fall-back models enables a future optimization in that area. That is my understanding of the reason behind the recent update to the renderer.

As said before, human reaction time is 0.15-0.30s on average.

That is for ‘twitch’ reaction, when you know something is coming and all you have to do is react in a predefined way to any trigger. If you have to evaluate the trigger and the proper reaction it takes much, much longer.

While I wouldn’t mind stealth on Shadow Return, I think that would be somewhat too much of a buff; sword #2 to give stealth more easily and for less initiative then Cloak and Dagger. Plus you now have the off-hand free to wield a pistol (head shot, black powder, pistol whip) and you’d still have access to stealth.

But hey, I think I could live with my thief going into stealth with every shadowstep ….

It’s hard to make out exactly what you are suggesting, but I am pretty sure you are no friend.

Hitting stuff ends stealth, a long duration stealth on a large cooldown will eliminate it as combat tool, including all the little benefits that replace some of the boons other classes get. Without those benefits, without the boons that other classes get, and without the damage from stealth skills this means every thief could as well be deleted. Suggesting we delete our character automatically puts you in the not-a-friend category.

The client regularly ‘crashes’ when the connection is lost, screen goes black, there’s some messages about loosing connections, music stays up, options screen is available, F12 pops up but won’t do what it is supposed to do, but it is not possible to do anything except ending the process with the taskmanager.

Two of the three orders are human in origin, one Charr. Off all the organisations in Tyria these three combined their forces and through them the five races become allies in the fight against the dragons and form the Pact.

Without the human efforts to come to a truce with them the Charr likely wouldn’t have been a part of the Pact. And quite possibly, the humans and the Norn wouldn’t have been in it either. Without the truce the Charr would have remained preoccupied with Ebonhawk and Kraltorik and the Norn with Jormag. It’s the truce between Kryta and the Charr that frees up enough resources to enable all five to focus those resources on the dragon.

Why would the dragon have a choice when his forces are driven away and his influence/effect is dispelled? His forces take the temple and make the air all green, until the Pact drives them away again and cleans things up. Rinse and repeat. I don’t see any lingering divine power having to take a role in any of it.

The reputation of flanking strike is justified as it do miss very often. Flanking strike consists out of 2 attacks.

I can read my combat log just fine. Flanking Stab rarely missed (that’s the second one), actually neither did Flanking Strike (that’s the first of the combo).
This was in PvE, I doubt Wvw is any harder.

They have built a feature that allows anyone to determine if any potential password is in actual use as a password.

In other words, their password-checker gives hackers a tool to generate a list of (valid) passwords…

You don’t need to counter stealth if yo can do damage, in fact yo don’t need counters at all, in the end it’s all about making the red bubbles go empty. All the stuff about CC and all is just because CC prevents you from depleting bubbles, or enable others to deplete yours, but it is still essentially about the bubbles.

I liked the red bars better, it’s easier to write about red bars going up then filling up bubbles.

It strips one boon, not two, at least according to the tooltip description. And despite it’s reputation, it doesn’t miss more then any other attack according to my combat log.

Orbs vs. Damage Runes

Runes can add something beyond stat increases, like a summon, might or fury, which might be worth more then +120/84/84 to some attribute that you already have up to 2k. And you can mix orbs, runes usually require a full set, making experimenting a lot cheaper.

That said, +2% crit damage is relatively high boost, compared to what a rune adds to any stat, when comparing a full ruby set with +12% crit damage to the 165 stat boost of a full set of regular runes I think the +12% crit damage is a better deal, provided that you do run a power/crit setup. Or you could use ruby orbs to replace two berserker trinkets with something else. If nothing else, orbs expand your options.

deathblossom/caltrop builds are the only thing i have an issue with,
everyone getting 20 AoE stacks of bleed from someone whos invisible or unattackable is pretty ridiculous lol.

Lol, keep standing in caltrops because then you can come down here and complain about thief? There is no counter for players who are so bad.

It’s a single 3 second bleed, which gives 3 stacks max, 6 with full +duration, never 20. You’re full of nonsense.

There’s a lot more to WvWvW than using rams. How about giving thieves a special seige skill in exchange for increasing stealth cool downs? That might offset the huge advantage that culling gives thieves.

I don’t see any huge advantage? Do you oZii? How do thieves dominate wvw again? I think he needs to l2p against thieves. But he won’t, he will qq till he gets his way or stop playing.

Columba is out to turn every stealth, thief, culling, thread into a nerf thread for thieves – you’ve likely seen his post history – it’s about 18 pages of 1 line comments having a dig at thieves or rants like this where he goes off on one about culling, stealth and the damage thieves do.

Columba – give it a rest, at this point, you said no one complains about rangers or engineers being op? and that 90% of the complaints about professions are about thieves?

guess what – 90% of the complaints on the boards about thieves are yours

Is P/D more condition build? Right now I’m stacked mainly berserkers with vitality and toughness mixed in.

Power/Crit always works but +Condition Damage really adds to P/D so it might be worthwhile to look at your trinkets, +condition tends to add in toughness/vitality/healing.

That’d be cool, but I think they deliberately made them as they are now to make them more easily distinguishable from the player character. If you could customize their looks you could make them look just like your char.

I understand stealth isn’t supposed to make you invulnerable. But when you combine high mobility and stealth with the culling issues, it sure makes it seem that way.

Mobility is not a factor when stomping, you know where they are and what they’re doing during a stomp, even if you can’t see them.

btw spider venom – 30s poison on 45 s cooldown, caltrops 14 s on 30 s coldown, looks like perfect 24/7 to me.

Ofc MY workaround works perfectlly. You can keep dots on it 24/7 by mixing caltrops with spider venom.

The duration is not enough for the cooldown, so 24/7 is not going to happen, but it should go long ways, mixed in with some weapon dot here and there.

This is really hurting WvW.. Why can they stomp while stealthed? Necros cant DS and stomp anymore. Why are rogues immune to AOE damage when stealthed? Doesnt seem like a balanced mechanic. Please fix. Ruining WvW.

They aren’t immune to damage when stealthed, you can hit them and as necro you can use, for instance, marks and wells to hurt them without needing a target. Please, at least experiment and try out things and use your characters abilities before calling nerf.

That they can be cut off by blocking off Zhaitan’s access to the cathedrals. Wouldn’t it be more demoralising if every effort to shut down the statues failed? Especially since the gods are only the gods of a fraction of the Pact’s strength?

Demoralising even part of your enemies forces is brings victorie close. Also, while my view on the pact may be influenced by having a human character, I have the impression that the humans are the main initiatior behind formation of the Pact and getting the five races fighting together.

Zhaitan is apparently not always capable of preventing the pact from taking the temples and perhaps, as suggested, when the pact takes control and pushes the risen away, the shrines become ‘active’ and push away Zhaitan’s influence even further.

The fact that these battles go back and forth is an indication that if any residual magic was actually present in those shrines, Zhaitan is not able to ‘take’ it.

NO, if it were a l2p issue, all classes would have equal complaints. thieves get 90% of the complaints, so, by definition, it cannot simply be a l2p issue. …

They can off course chose to remain a bad player. Fact is that one player that learned to play against thieves shows all those complaints of 100 others for the QQing it actually is.

Thief, as opponent, plays radically different. To put it in exaggeration, if you learned something to fight one class, you’ve learned something to fight against all classes except thieves.

None of the workarounds these actually work, weaponswap is on a 10 second cooldown. caltrops even longer. Mobs should simply not reset in 2 seconds, timer could easily be set to 5 or even 10 seconds.

At times it seems you may be right, but other moments … A bit less attack is compensated with an extra swing, a bit less defence is compensated with a repair-stop.

Culling not Fixed

Culling = server calculating what you will see and then send you the data.
pro: you can play with a worse internet connection / GPU.
con: calculating needs time and you have to wait longer for the data.

It is not to help the clients, but the servers. Clients have more then enough (download) bandwith to handle the data and usually enough GPU power to render (basic) models near instantly.

Getting flamed in pvp, especially this kind of pvp, is a compliment.

Im kinda afraid that at some point those comments might seriously hurt my gameplay.
