Can we have a break between living stories?

Southsun was bad because there wasn’t jack to do. 3 hours of content and then a month break should not be the goal, IMO. Maybe they should make things that last longer, but have elements that are do-able after the event so people won’t feel as rushed but less stuff + more time is the worst they could do, based on the current vacuous type of content they’ve been putting out.

I would say that firstly, some people didnt find the amount of stuff in southsun event all that bad. these are people that might not even make it to login each day. but i would agree it gets rather empty after awhile because in fact i feel that the 2 week pace is good for such a content, not its month long duration. now some might disagree of course but try and be reasonable, not everyone can finish content as fast as the select few. the newer dragonbash and/or aetherblades with its HUNDREDS of stuff however might be a different thing.

i would agree however to a repeatable content after that, elements that are do able after the main stuffs as you say. this gives people with time to burn something to do, or earn stuff, make money, get shinies etc.

I’m fine with some of the stories, aetherblades + flame and frost for example, despite the latters rather slow and lackluster start. But i do feel like we are being … guided to like..forget about elder dragons or sumthin. even with an event called dragonbash…

1. its got potential. its good to have more content, so i support the idea. but it has aspects and criterias that im very critical of.
2. nope, im never a 100% person, i just want specific things that i like. ill start fussing when some of those things i feel is stupidly gated tho (looking at you, RNG)
3. permanent is better for me. anyone should have a shot at content, except maybe holiday events which is mostly for fun and seasonal. have a shot as in, can try it, whether they succeed or fail is a different matter.
4. overall im on the positive side of it. more content is good, the idea has merit, but like i said some aspects of it need changing and re-examining.

The devs don’t make content only for people to skip. Nonetheless, all content gets skipped, or do you believe that everybody is really doing everything in the game. The idea is to make enough content that everybody has something they will enjoy doing, and can skip the stuff they don’t enjoy.

I don’t mind you saying that the notion as you put it is foolish. It was, after all, your notion, and nowhere near what I wrote.

You are right of course in that content do get skipped, like speed running dungeons. My sentiment there is simply that people, some of them, just can’t get into the content, despite them wishing to do so, due to insufficient time or opportunity. It’s one thing if people skip because they want quick rewards, or they are bored or uninterested in doing a content, because thats their choice. but if they want to and they can’t… well i just feel its better for devs to actually pace it so that the most number of people can partake in the content. Or, just make it permanent :P

I don’t think it can get worse than already is.
Spending hours farming regular coffers and opening them hoping to get a ticket is grinding.
Doing some (different and hard) tasks for some npcs in chain and getting a ticket after finishing it is not.

I agree. The ridiculous luck/randomness factor is getting out of hand, to the point that i DREAD that they might make new weaponskins that i would actually be interested in. I’d be raging mad as hell if i see some mouth watering weaponskin put behind similiar rng.

Yes doing different, challenging tasks is a better option though i foresee the debate would then move to the subjective nature of the difficulty threshold. but i spose that can be mitigated by multiple achievement choices where we can pick ones we are able to do, as is the case with some LS elements now.

ps- thousands of coffers→ 0 tickets, bought a few rich coffers (using gold) just to test→same result as normal coffer. i regret giving even this miniscule support to the matter.

This is absolutely rediculous. I for one like the idea that there is so much to do that I miss out on some stuff. Expecting to be able to do every single thing in the game when you are a casual player is expecting too much. There should be more content than you can accomplish.

Imagine you went grocery shopping and the stores only had a couple of items to allow you to try everything they have to offer and not miss out. That would suck. I prefer to be overwhelmed by choices, pick the most attractive, and miss out on some of less interesting ones. It’s the same for the game. Give me more content than I can possibly play, so that I always have good choices of content when I log on.

While i wont comment on the grocery store example, some ppl will say its quite apt, others might think it doesnt suit the situation. I will stay on the fences on that.

Having said that, I understand there are people that aim to have every aspect of the content achieved, and there are people like myself, who are more… selective at what we want to do in a given content. Yet even those are subjective because, lets face it we all like different things. We chose to do the things we like, or chose to do the things that will reward us with the things we like. but what happens when the stuff we want, just the specific one, is gated in such a way that you really really have to spend such time on it that god forbid if u ever have other emergencies that prevent u from logging on. And look some people can do contents fast, some people do them slower. (like dailies, some ppl say they do it in 10 minutes, some do it longer).

I am also of the opinion that it seems rather counter productive for the devs to work so hard to make contents only for people to skip or miss them just because they couldnt keep up. I find that notion rather… foolish, if u dont mind me saying.

Darkace said my main complaint.

Don’t forget the Elder Dragons.

I read the books. I want to kill the Elder dragons. Fact is no GW1 player wants to stay in Tyria forever. We want to see what has become of Elona and Cantha.

My suggestion. Start advancing the main story. Do NOT wait for an expansion to let us take out another Dragon. Use the Living world to advance the story and then when you add permanent content let it be the next area where we will take on another Dragon.

in regards to “story”… you just said exactly what i was thinking

I opened over 4k of the regular coffers and didn’t get a single ticket, but I’m usually unlucky so I’m not really surprised x)
I’m ok with skins being rare, but being rare because they are entirely based on RNG is not that good IMO… I would like it better if they were rare because it would take a lot of effort to get them and, since they are acc. bound, only people that really worked hard for them would have them. That would be awesome.

beware with saying ‘a lot of effort’. some might take that as either a request for grinding or would say that going thru the silly RNG as effort hehe but seriously, yea agrees with this.

I’m partly casual, i suppose. I never set a goal that seems ridiculous given my time constraint, which is about a few hours a day on weekdays (unless i work overtime) and a bit more on weekend. I didnt aim for a legendary within a few months (i do work for it but i expect to be done with it not for a loooooong time more)

that aside, i love customizing my toons. every next new toon i make, id slowly save up (using the older toons) the mats/prequisites needed to gear him/her up, stats wise and aesthetics wise. I was happy with this but even then i gotta admit the skins i like werent that many. Now add the new skins they pop up every now and then, yes im excited abt em. finally added options to the lack of choices the original content hado t then they had to gate them now with ridiculous RNG or severe thresholds (super heavy grind/accumulation of prequisites etc) AND have to be achieved within a limited time… then this is where i start fuming. im not even trying to be the highest achievement hoarder, the richest player nor stash full of legendaries. I just wanna gear my toons to my liking. adn even then i dont aim for all of them to have full ascended trinkets or such. which is what i wanted to do when i first started anyhow. thus see how the change in direction these new content can be.

LIMITED EDITION ITEMS

What i liked about GW1 was that even super rare stuff were still available somehow to obtain. Lately in GW2 iam seeing the trend of special items droping during events and then gone forever. I know you want to keep them special for the people that participated in this event but thats what achievement rewards are for right? Why not keep them in game as a super rare drop for special areas and bosses only? If someone wants to grind for along time to obtain them why not let them? Spending so much time designing items and them taking them away sounds such a waste. For example keep the Karka, Reed Drake etc. miniatures as a super rare southsun only drop. Or if the molten alliance dungeon comes back as a fractal keep that awesome looking jet back as a rare drop from that fractal only! That will keep them super limited but still available to the world of Tyria.

Ohh if only they’d do this I’d feel less angry at missing out events knowing theres still some hope to get stuff …

Mounts… i kept away from WoW like a plague (and the few Rpgs that did have them which I played (single player mostly) the mechanics felt clunky and often resort to being on foot anyhow. ) so im not sure the point of mounts, since travel, which is what im assuming the primary reason its for, is quite simple and sufficient in the game.

A trade system would be much welcome though, we have guild events that require a the end of it to pass on loads of goods to our guild mistress, and i tell you its annoying sending two mails worth/10 items and than having to wait due to…excessive messaging.

And funnily enough back when we had Flame and Frost people complained about the long time between updates.

No matter which way they go there will be people that don’t like it.

I’m all for loads of new content. I love seeing new things popping up for us to do. the more the merrier, and i really dont mind at all if they can actually produce content faster than the rate im going through them. The main point of the issue however is its temporary nature. A bazillion new content is fine, so long as i can take my own time going through them. I dont go thru all achievements and aspects of each content, but there are always stuff i really look forward to.

As of the OP, a break seems nice but i really dont see them doing this if they can actually keep the pace up. again, much easier to make the content around longer or permanent, it still aloows ppl that need to catch their breath do so.

in Living World

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

generalraccoon.3857

The problem with missing something is that we are left with hearing stories only about how awesome a content was. Maybe its fine for some, but personally for me its as bad as movie spoilers, well maybe worse because movie spoilers, i can still watch the movie later. Also the rewards, theyre unique for the specific event, say that it has design or whatever that you would really like, that matches with the goal set for the aesthetics of ur toon, and u missed it, not because it was any fault of urs, other things intervene.. and we r spose to be just happy with that?

that said, 1 months? 2 weeks? 1 day even? I really dont give a good godkitten how often new stuff comes out as long as its not too ridiculously long. I do mind if we are not allowed to go after the events+its rewards at a pace of our own choosing.

I get that LS perhaps does reflect real life; things happening changing and affecting the world and like real life things do happen that make u miss out on stuff. What I don’t get is why this should be ok in a game? EXAMPLE: I don’t get why I’m suppose to be just ok not experiencing say… “dungeon X” which is said to be for example the most fun-nest content or whatever because in the 2 weeks in month A i was busy chasing deadlines at work. I dont get why I’m suppose to feel all nice and dandy when i see someone holding greatsword X or backpiece Y which has designs i would just die for, but knowing i can NEVER get it because I didnt have time to chase after all the achievements or such.

Also even if those items get into TP do u know how ridiculously hgh the prices wud be for such temporary items? Look at the Molten jetpack for example. rare as heck to get and limited time=crazy price. and achievement based rewards are usually accountbound or souldbound anyhow…

I’d appreciate not getting the “entitlement” argument. I’m not asking for such things on a silver platter, merely given a chance to try for it. If I am detained from investing time in the game at a particular time, its not my fault, but i feel like being punished for it all the same.

What are your 3 biggest problems with GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

My top 3 issues with this lovely game
1. RNG, especially on temporary contents.
2. Temporary contents, especially ones with wonderful experiences and rewards that makes the ppl who would like them but happen to miss out (due to real life stuff or such) just wanna ragequit :P
3. primacy of berzerker gear/builds. seriously, im kinda bored at the whole dps dps dps and l2dodge thing. need to change this somehow. i dont fault the players fully, because… well its a reaction to the existing contents

Living Story IMO Isn't Good for GW2

in Living World

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

generalraccoon.3857

Im not going to go so far as say to say living story is all that bad, i certainly enjoyed a few of the contents in the living story, some im glad to have experienced once or twice and others id wish it were permanent. My main dislike of the matter is that the temporary nature of the LS, because seriously I like this game, and like many people who likes this game i think we want generally 2 things.

1. To experience the new content, which we will applaud if the experience is nice (Molten facility and aetherblade retreat are nice, southsun instances not so)
2. To enjoy the rewards that come from them, be it new armor stats (sentinels, settlers) or just the new special skins or even achievements and titles.

This makes a frantic pace to catch up for some players and we do despair at seeing the prospect of this happening, of realizing we cant get these unless we catch up so we dread missing out by taking things casually. eventually this could lead to resentment and possibly quitting.

I also would add that stats based items and those that “affect” gameplay arent the only content that matters. In this game, if a player sets skins or looks as his/her goal, then such content matters too, for them, and its not in anyone elses place to say its not relevant. its a game, so everything can be technically optional but once u r in here and set urself a goal, whatever it is that is needed to get that goal becomes relevant.

I cannot agree to ascended armor. you could say im one of those who are against vertical gear progressions. i also think that exotic gear is good enough for a jp reward, if only they also include other stuff and make it feel like a chest instead of a glorified box for a reused armor skin.

yes i share the frustratiom at not having a new skin for the shoulder pads. probably because they give whole armor sets in gem store so they dont feel like giving more new skins perhaps?

Lag does cause an issue. Especially with the steam launches. But my mosy annoying experiences come from players (stating a reason, not blaming… much :P ) Must have did it early because there were too many people there. There are parts i cant even see myself nor the platforms i need to jump on. too many ppl spamminh speed boosts that i misjumped way too often.

But push aside all those concerns, taken simply as a JP, i so love it.

Temporary content. Your thoughts?

in Living World

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

generalraccoon.3857

Had to add as I read some interesting stuff in the past posts. Someone said about having the new dungeon as permanent with added explorable modes. Especially given that there are already the 3 armor skins for them, it can function just like regular dungeons then. I do love this idea and would not fault it except tht i feel its unlikely devs will put it up this way. Sorry for being pessimistic, but i have to say, Gem store armor and FRIGGING rng weapon skins. The former is infinitely better method than the latter, (and ill repeat this a bazillion times over a bazillion threads if i have to) but even then, its worse choice than like normal dungeon rewards, but since it ties to…the option for them to make profit, i feel quite unlikely it will go that way.

If u need rng in this temporary content, keep the chances nice enough. 0.00001% or something like that, is not it. I dont mind as much for precursors because its NOT temporary. Additionally if you have the gem store options, keep RNG off it. Stop making real money gambling stuff here. I have to say it because im seeing those nice aetherblade weapons on mobs and im wondering if theyll give those out next but again would want to implement the much hated ridiculous RNG system on it

I mentioned before about doing stuff at my own time. I’d add that the trend seems to be going to more and more grindy stuff when it reached Dragon Bash (hundreds of zhaitaffys on top of hundreds of holo kills and on top of a hundred fireworks..really? seriously, REALLY?) but seems to have toned down slightly with aetherblades/sky pirates. (only one achieve exceeds a hundred i think). I fear it would return however, and people with limited time would either miss out or be forced to do those events and only those events. And yes, some people really do have limited time and some activities are time consuming here (dungeons, especially the new one and maybe..say.. Arah). Southsun event had it nice with achievements encouraging exploration, as is the cache achievements for sky pirates. I’d rather see more of this than do HUNDREDS of X kind of achievements.

I just tried the new dungeon for the first time last night with a few other first-timers and one person at least who did it before once, and first off let me say… we didnt finish it. We reached the last boss ( and in fact was almost at the end of that fight), tried a couple of times… no, scratch that… we tried a LOT of times, but we had to call it in the end because ppl had RL stuff to handle.

Where the group mostly died is at the last cannon phase when fighting Mai, and let me tell you after that she aims to punish ppl rez-ing others severely. Most of the time 2-3 of us would be downed in that last cannon phase leaving me(warrior) and another guardian usually left standing to try rez the rest, which is tricky.

Spent hours in there, and didnt finish so I’m just gonna say this….

This dungeon is just awesome! Seriously. Like my guardian friend told us, it really really does push you to further understand ur own character, and despite the loads of wiping, i found that im eager to keep trying. I got 12 achievements already for the mini, but really i dont care. i wanna try this again. and again.

it’s a shame that im seeing so few requests to run this dungeon, it was a bit hard getting groups for it (most ppl did it early, but i opted to do it on weekends) and not many want repeats. I dunno, there are dungeons that i swear im just fed up of doing despite not being as hard, but this one makes me feel like coming back for more. hoping to see more of this kind of stuff, really!

See for you, I would say the RNG was working reasonably as intended. Pretty much what one would expect from this kind of system. But when people spend hundreds of hours farming or tons of money/gems and never get anything to show for it repeatedly and it’s always the same people, something is wrong. The same applies in reverse, those who spend little time farming or just a chance toss of gems into the hat and wa-la they get the magic golden ticket…every time… I have offered to let the devs play on my account as long as they need to to determine what I’m saying is true, but that’s not ever going to happen. I participated in that 100+ page thread about the bad drop rates but it went nowhere. We did get some better crafting mat drops, that’s about it but pretty sure those are on an actual fixed loot table, not the RNG machine.

Maybe it is working as intended for me, but i still say it’s one kitten poor implementation anyhow :p Down into the Aetherblade contents, dragon bash still around and no ticket still. not that i really want it, which is abt the only reason and not fuming like mad yet I’d mind RNG less if it were a permanent content, like precursors… yeah, id sure mind that less…. id still be a bit buggered by the system… but less so

That said, a number of cool stuff are being sold for 800, im guessing this will continue. No, i wont complain incessantly over it though. I got what I want. they didnt RNG it. so i am content.

I can’t say for sure, but it seems 3/4 of my level 80s are unaffected. My primary, warrior, though has but one change. As a dungeon runner build, i use berzerker power on my traits to boost my dmg (for a rather tanky build), which now is moved UP to grandmaster level. Since i only spend 20 points on that trait line, it seems i must change trait choices or move points from other line into that to get back berzerker power. Overall I can’t say much, Im optimistic it can be for the better, so im not gonna cry and go all “NOOO THEY NERF ME!” . I’m gonna head over to build editors and try tweak stuff around to get a new build. Likely I need to spend currency one a few new gears even, so that be my only, truly.. sour point.

That said, straight up gemstore purchase for me is infinitely better than being gated by RNG RNG and more RNG. Sorry to OP for not happy abt it but I am most thankful for almost anything that isnt RNG..

Temporary content. Your thoughts?

Why not turn each non-holiday living story event into a fractal to add to FOTM? Since each fractal is based off a period in history anyway. It would add more variety to FOTM, keep the content engaging and it would be permanent (in a way). They could even put in a small chance of getting a ticket for past weapon skins as a drop in the particular fractal associated with the living world event.

as far as temporary dungeons for fractals…. I think I recall a dev replying that they are considering this. I wish i can give a link but i honestly dont recall which thread i read it from…

Reading the OP, can’t help but think, yeah been there done that. I got more or less the exact same thing with those so called “rich” dragon coffers. I’m done with gemstore RNG and would continually speak out against it so long as it keeps appearing.

Just chiming in for another “Less RNG!” call. Seriously. Less RNG. It’s really annoying.

Also, agrees wholeheartedly for permanent content. come on, i can only do new content at SPECIFIC period of time only and then cant do it anymore? No, don’t say “you’ll get another new content after that!” because that just doesnt work. to clarify: I may enjoy content A over the newer content B, or that I didnt had time to do content A when its out, and now only content B is available. so really permanent is good.

Personally I understand that they meant living story as a way to show how the world is moving on, and that things aren’t really static. It also gives players periodically new content to enjoy. I get that. The problem is really that in the end its a means of trying to persuade players to keep playing the game. Yes, it is not compulsory but having been absent and missed some of these content (and its unique rewards) players will feel missed out. I know I did for the Halloween and Lost Shores event. It doesn’t affect stats of my toons, sure, but i do feel slightly unhappy at not having obtained some of its rewards. So to that end, I’d rather have permanent content. I love this game, I will return to it as often as i can, but work and RL stuff does come in so its nice if i can try out and get the rewards for contents at my own leisure.

The irony in the criticism against RNG...

And originally all those better, rarer skins could have been acquired through consistently working towards them, without any significant RNG presence at all (with all those things you have mentioned before – dungeon tokens, karma, gold). Fractal skins were the first deviation from that path (and it’s not accident that the whole game direction changed at the same time, into far more grind and RNG reliant one).

Very much this. thanks for stating I am really dissapointed to see the direction change. Then it was all if u see a particular set/item u like, u work towards it and in time u eventually get it. the challenge was probably in getting groups for it (ie: want the SE armor skins sets, need to find ppl for a dungeon not so many ppl run :P ). The new skins is all u run around hoping to get lucky. or rather run around to get boxes (which is chance based as well, though the recent one not so bad) and hope u get lucky when opening them

Honestly if they add them in via the Gem Store similar to the way they added in the Krytan Ranger/Primeval Warrior/Profane Necromancer armors that would be a fantastic step…

I refuse to spend real money on RNG boxes to get anything, however I will spend money on armors that are directly bought. At least that is… Armors that I like, lol… I definitely would have bought a ticket for the Dragon Staff Skin and the Shield skin, had they been given as a ticket and not a drop out of an RNG Chest, but… Seems ANet didn’t want my money in that one… I will continue to refuse to buy RNG Chests, and will further support actual skins.

My thoughts exactly! Really hoping direct gem store purchase! (will be working xtra to get extra cash to buy it! )
