I thought some weird stuff was going on after the patch. I only noticed that my trait training has been reset and somehow i cant even re-train them if i wanted to. Reading the stuff here though, I can see it’s far worse than I know.
Here’s a hoping ANet will remedy this REAL soon.
somebody needs to attack LA. i need to see this CityTownHunter
Much thanks, Anet. I appreciate it, truly.
HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

I’m just adding my opinions to this, and likely so many others have stated similar views but I felt I should put my own points in anyhow.
I’ve been in the game since slightly after the first Halloween event and ever since then I kept telling people how GW2 raised the bar for mmorpgs. I told people how every other competitor out there seems pale in comparison.
In the 3 years or so I’ve played, taking breaks a few times though, I was always one who preferred that we get a full blown expansion rather than the trickle of more frequent but much micro new contents. So when the game that I hailed as raising the standards of the genre finally announced a proper expansion, I was quite ecstatic. I liked seeing what they had shown so far; Living story season 2 was quite nice so I also am looking forward to the continuation of that, Revenant seemed a very interesting new class and of course I’m so looking forward to making my necro a reaper.
I am intrigued in seeing the new trait systems, seems generally a nice thing, it’s different so it has pro and cons but there includes my first disappointment; the attributes. I hate that now attributes are all on gear, minus the overall boost every character gets (as it is very… Diablo 3 to me and that one killed the franchise for me after years of being a loyal fan). And then came the exotic- ascended stats gap issue, and things even less shiny now.
And then this.
The price, I will not argue, I don’t think I’m qualified to say for certain HoT’s monetary value anyhow. But I do have an issue with simply just getting the ‘base game’ as the primary thing in addition to the expansion itself in all the current pre purchase offers. It’s a good deal, mind you, VERY good deal -if i am a new player.. But since I said I’m not and I don’t have any intentions of having a “second account”, the offer feels lousy, almost a scam even.
I really don’t see why existing players can’t get new character slots instead (and please don’t give me this … ‘you will get 5 new character slots, in another account’- i don’t care about having another account) . If you can give new players the whole vanilla game FOR FREE apparently, why not character slots (or even some other form of useful compensation) to existing players who pre purchase? As it stands I changed my mind not to pre purchase as having another copy of the vanilla game is useless to me, so I will wait and see.
I’ll probably still get the expansion, eventually…maybe… but I will be cautious about it.
will there be raccoons? :p
While on this subject of transmutation, I’m kind of wondering why the heavier leaning for pvp to get transmutation charges. I dont pvp myself but I have a friend who does and he is somewhat swimming in transmutation charges.
Just curious, not really complaining…. (yet :P)
Historical reason. It is not about a lean towards PvP but rather maintaining the status quo for PvP. With the old PvP locker system it was possible to change your PvP appearance anytime you want without any sort of transmutation. By providing a lot of charges it gives essentially the same result. The fact that it also provides incentives for people to play PvP is just a bonus.
ahh ok… much enlightened now, thanks

Tell you something funny… I’m a hardcore PVPer of the type that happily plays games where everyone is a target all the time and where there are no safe places. I (still) play games like EVE, where the lunatics have definitely taken over the asylum and I do well there. In AION, when I still played, I was a (solo) perma-rifter, so if you got ganked there: hiiiii! Might have been me!
And I am a carebear too. I like this game the way it is, it’s relaxing. If I want to go gank people and destroy their stuff, there’s plenty of other games for that. This one doesn’t need ‘toughening up’.
Haha nice. Used to play EVE as well a long time ago (Ironically I think I was last in when they just got the expansion that added the “revenant” supercarrier, hopefully i stay here long after the ‘revenant’ here is officially around). Lost my first cruiser to gate camps because i didnt know there were such a thing as gatecamps! just blindly jump to low sec! :P
And yes part of the reason i picked up GW2 was because of the relaxed and friendly mechanics as well
I see. So I should turn off map chat and not get event notifications because some people want to act like children? No, I think that’s probably not right.
And no, carebears don’t rule this forum…carebears rule this game. Proud to be a carebear. If it means that I’m a nice guy, who would rather play cooperatively with people than beat the hell out of them, sure I’ll wear it. Happy to.
The PvE in this game was designed to be cooperative. As for changing things not affecting us, well, it does affect us. Because all those other games have options to turn off PvP and whatnot and they all still suck because design decisions are made around that open world PvP that affect everyone.
And since I don’t need my PvE being affected by open world PvP (there’s already too many PvE changes that have been dictated by PvP), then I’m happy to not have it at all.
Saying something won’t affect other people doesn’t mean it won’t.
My favorite reply in this thread so far. I so agree to this and a proud carebear too.
Made a necro and… once again, managed to get items from all sorts of source
Head: Wraith masque (starter gear)
Shoulders: Vigil (faction gear)
Chestpiece: Profane (gemstore)
Gloves: Inquest (CoE dungeon, if I recall correctly)
Legging: T3 Cultural (human)
Boots: Carapace (LS, Silverwaste)
On a side note: We need more underboob tops! Assassins T3 is like the only one
hmm…. y’know…. now that you’ve mentioned it….
Been out for almost half a year, came back to see whats stuff is like on this upcoming expansion and saw this thread
An optional questline to get cultural armor? i will likely come to play for that! even if the armor design isnt much to my preference.
A year later…
I’m still here… and so is that annoying tab on the leggings :P
I worry threads like this might actually convince anet that more gear tiers are needed when in fact it is largely hated by a lot of ppl.
Happy new year everyone…
.. well its been almost 10 and a half hours into 2014 for me here in Malaysia.
@KingEsoteric:
hey thanks for the clarification.
1. I dont really knw what other games had in regards to rezzing so I cant really say. My only other MMO experience was EVE online.. In GW2 though, my group and I usually could rez dead party members up in combat through some strategizing and such (lure boss away, or shadow refuge etc), to which im happy with the way it is right now.
2. I really do despise the current emphasis on dps though :P
3. Decoupling role from class is a good thing, i think most can agree to tht. and while heal warriors are cool thing (to me) I m still uncertain as to the need of a party member to be exclusively in one role, no matter what class/profession he’s performing that role in. i guess i prefer something with more..flexibility.
(……..or maybe specific roles like that means 1 character can have differing builds but with current BiS issue… ughh..nvm :P )
(edited by generalraccoon.3857)
in trinity stuff, the loss of a crucial party member, the tank or healer could quickly lead to the whole party wiping, where as the Gw2 system allows the group to still perform even after losing a few members and possible recovering from those mishaps.
It’s even worse in GW2. If the party leader leaves, the whole group is disbanded. If 2 people vote him out, the whole group is disbanded. Trinity gameplay is easily solved by giving every class a tank/heal spec. Some MMOs already do this. LFG tools remedy this problem also.
These issues of waiting in the past have already been resolved by many different methods, even before GW2. This excuse no longer holds.
Well, i consider the whole party disbandment by leaving an issue seperate to this matter, which is teamplay within the combat mechanics.
But being not a big MMO chaser, (i came to this game for its… initial promises of not being like the …usual MMO..but lets keep that gripe out of this topic :P ) id like to know how the matter is addressed in the past.

Now I wonder, curious really… in trinity, as a healer or tank, these vital roles, im sure some would feel satisfied and proud of doing their intended roles, knowing that the group could not have made it without them. Not so in GW2, because ..well… if u die ur comrades can still soldier on, probably even win through while u lie dead on the floor. Not very glorious, i know.. So for trinity advocates, is that sense of importance is what is desired?
I personally like the gw2 system because i like flexibility. oh… and i hate waiting for specific classes when forming party :P
Hi lily!
Love the idea for the well… would make me love my recently levelled wellmancer more if i had tht :P
7000+ views and yet replies only abt 1% that number :P
With an issue like this, who cares abt other lore…
Before ascended armor, you could buy gems for money convert them to gold and get the full exotic armors and weapons, with 0 effort .
That was right and ascended is wrong ?What’s wrong with this ?
You cannot buy uber weapon to dominate without having skill. Even you bought exotics you suck because you don’t have skill (you need to spend time to master in any case). If you earned it you didn’t waste real money for it and it wasn’t a big grind, so you are not in disadvantage. ANET got some cash. Win/win/win IMO.Legendaries should not be tradable though. So if you got it – it’s a status item.
Cant quite say myself the answer to Baldrics question other than the fact that the devs in some way did thought it wrong. I thought the ease to get BiS items (when it was exotics) was one of the best thing about this game, but devs stated they didnt like players getting it that quick. Have to admit when I heard devs said that, i felt really really… sad.
Yknow I have to agree, legendaries shudnt be tradeable. if anything shud be grinded it ought to have been legendaries, which is always just on par with best stats of the time, never better. Easy to get BiS stats, grind for cosmetics. wud fit right with that concept. But thats gone now with so many of em on TP that it would cause a riot if they were removed from tp now.
But i think those who feel this way are probably the minority now.
I do believe gw2 is less grindy than many regular mmos, but its still much too grindy for people who came here in hopes of escaping the grind.
That’s just silly. You can play for years in this game literally without having to grind a single thing.
Threads like these are all about people who lack the self-control to prevent themselves from spending tons of times getting things they don’t need, then complain that they spend time getting things they don’t need.
With the possible exception of high-level fractals, there’s not a single part of this game you need to grind gear for. And that’s a lot better than most games.
Probably. if im that good. so good that i run anything on much lower tier gear (or none). but im not. yea i lack the needed reflex skills or such,,so i need better gear to compensate. i read once tht even exotics (dungeon token ones) was a grind to get the whole set for some (i dont really think so but.. i can understand if others feel tht way.. )also i do believe some came here with the expressed hope of getting BiS gear, regardless of need , without the dreaded grind.
anyhow …my point being that it is a matter of perspective.
what ur saying there… feels like ur trying to force your values/perceptions on me.
I do believe gw2 is less grindy than many regular mmos, but its still much too grindy for people who came here in hopes of escaping the grind.
What about ascended gear being taken down from the amount of sets we have, to a smaller amount of sets that have selectable stats?
For example, Berserker, Rampager, and Knight’s gear would be put into a single item set, and you can choose between those three stat sets similar to legendary weapon stat selection.
Giving each set only three different archetypes would still have people crafting different pieces, if their build called for a stat set that wasn’t available on their current set of three, but it would greatly reduce the acquisition period, as you would have alternatives available at any given time. It would also set apart ascended from legendary, as ascended would not have all stat types available at any time, but only 3.
That’s a really interesting idea. I hope Chris or one of the other devs will offer some feedback on it.
I think, though, that a more practical solution would be to have a “Stat-change Vendor” that offers to change the stats on an Ascended item for a gold fee. Or reset the stats to a selectable state. This would be a reasonable bridge between Ascended and Legendary, I think. Legendary gear still enjoys unique QoL functionality, but players are able to change gear stats on Ascended items for a fee that would be much less than making a whole new piece.
I think this is quite nice. Personally Id rather not have ascendeds at all but this can be quite an agreeable middle ground.
Dragonite needs to start dropping on dungeons.
I would so agree to this
Also, for the OP, no such thing as too much bloodstone dust! if u dont want it, destroy it.
…remember what happened with karma nerf! :P
Just saying yknow,,, but i never had any “nothing to do” problems until recently, and thats because lots of fellow guildies are slowly quitting and many of the stuff i do, is usually with them. and they left because of reasons stated in some posts here (added grind, no new areas/expansion, often reusing old content etc) .
(Dont like pugging, for reasons people are obviously aware of.)
But I do agree that what ever promises they made in the manifesto, they certainly cant keep the game up without catering to the… MMO masses. Maybe the game as a sequel went too big for its own good, i did read that GW1 had much smaller playerbase, dedicated though they are. maybe they ought to have made a game meant for a slightly larger/expanded base as a sequel, because i can see why game of this size needs larger amount of people in it to a point of bringing in those wwho would naturally be in opposition to the gw1’s directions.
I have to be honest in that I wasnt really expecting much out of this. I mean Scarlet escapes (again) so theres nothing to expect out of this. Glad to be wrong. The cinematics is really well done.
Personally, i feel it helps as well that Marjory and Kasmeer are two npcs i quite like so far
On the topic: I think GW2 is alt friendly when considering more stuffs are made accountbound, and the wallet system which makes spending for new toons easy. However one feature is permanently destroyed for alts, which is the ability to gear alts quickly/easily in BiS gear. REGARDLESS of how many ‘u dont need ascendeds’ post we see, the fact is some people will feel somewhat unhappy with this. This is the point of contention which ultimately decides for a person if it is alt friendly or otherwise.
On the ongoing stuff above, i would rather they just left the gear grinders in a ditch. after all so many other games do gear grinding, so let this be the place for people to play a game where BiS is not grind. of course this is not what we have now and im sure ‘facts’ will start coming as to why we need gear grinding, so… oh well.. what can we do?
While i dont mind scarlet as much as some, truth is i am veeeerrry mindful of having another sylvari ally. the last one just sorta stole my thunder :p
can think of only 5 though..
1. NAVAL combat is a nice idea as mentiond above, for me at least. underwater combat, not so… unless maybe it involves submarines and you not getting wet :P
That aside :
2. No ascendeds (or maybe ascndeds as exotic lvl stuff with infusion slot.)
3. dungeons with difficulty setting.
4. Armor/skin wardrobe function.
5. More racial/profession diversity, as in aspects of story, armor and skills.
Love killing warriors with legendarys while roaming solo with my ranger #BestFeelingEver
Isn’t it strange that legendaries give the initial impression that the wielder is an experienced/skilled player when in fact they pretty much mean nothing at all?
Even if you’re consciously aware that legendaries don’t really have any prestige attached to them, the initial impulse when you see someone using one is kinda like “Ah, this guy thinks he’s hot kitten, I’ll show him what’s what!”
<— owns a Twilight.
heyy u hurt my feelings :P heheh kidding, just kidding… honestly though, i do suck at pvp
@IceVyper – if the OP had simply asked for more gear variety, I’d be among the first to support that. But that’s not what they asked for. They asked for removal of a a piece of armour they disagreed with for personal reasons. I -completely- tolerate people who don’t want to wear skimpy armour, but these people need to develop some tolerance of their own instead of trying to force their personal views on everyone else by getting the developers to remove revealing armour from MMOs entirely.
I asked for a simple minor alteration that doesn’t undermine the armor in any way.
oh god, this is still up.
1. This feels like… an attempt to bank in on the recent Flamekissed issue to either a) feel glad abt themselves for also being able to “affect” the game to their liking by screwing aportion of the community or b) to get some form of payback on some segment of community over the mentioned issue. I do hope im wrong because if it is, its in poor taste.
2. Why is it there are still attempts to say its “not abt my opinion” when the entire thing is abt opinions. Fact is this wouldnt seem odd enough if it was a regular discussion of opinions.
3. And for the fun of it, to reply one of the Qs up there. I do not haf medium human t3, because my friend has it, and i dont want to dress our toons alike. my friend bought it because of liking the design, specifically more so for the underboob. Had my friend not have it, i would certainly have gotten it… for the same reasons. I’m not using this as any part of an argument about majorities or what not.
1. Simply not the case.
2. I’ve already explained why. Asking the same question over and over again does not help your case.
3. Like I said, this is not about personal opinions of whether or not the armor is good looking.
1. I hope so. Because the flamekissed issue is recent, and its odd that only now a serious… request is made on an armor thats been around since launch.
2. its not about asking the question again, really. my point there is simple. The whole issue is an opinion. one can write there, its not proper, its tasteless, its crude etc without ever saying anything like “i feel that…” or “in my opinion”, it still doesnt make it anymore than an opinion. Frankly i dont even know why this needs clarification. Is there something here, that makes your values universal, that other people MUST be forced to accept your views? Why do you want to force your values on others? Why must we accept ur views?
3. A question, or rather a list of question was asked, not by you, but it was asked, so id just amuse myself to reply extra.
also @Blacklight:
I think some of the… “refund demanders” (from the aforementioned gemstore armor issue) have asked a return of their other investments on other stuffs like dyes, matching (expensive) weapon skins that they bought to complement the look. Seriously speaking,
(edited by generalraccoon.3857)
That…is a nice picture
Mostly play warrior and ranger. Warrior has high enough dps even when balanced with some survivability. Ranger is tanky melee GS ranger, which i so love because the build is so tanky i can be facetank some champs that heavies cant. :p
oh god, this is still up.

If i recall, devs dont like ppl getting new stuff on day one of its release. theyll surely add something to ensure that.
I’d like to see:
Dyeable weapons (Most likely never going to happen though…)
Account bound LegendariesLegendaries should be account bound for the time and effort it takes to create 1. Come to think of it, there shouldn’t be anything soul bound when it comes to gear.
yea, considering i made a Twilight and have all GS capable classes
I would love to see:
Thief – Greatsword – Staff (For some kind of thiefy support.((I imagine a skill like mesmer’s veil and some other weirdly interesting things like that for thief)) )
Warrior – Offhand Pistol (Rytlock has one)
Elementalist – Greatsword – Axe in mh or oh (dervish style like draxynnic said)
Guardian – Longbow – Mainhand axe
Necromancer – Greatsword (Reaper fighting with highish life force gain like dagger except with cleaving attacks)
Mesmer – Mainhand pistol sounds good
Engineer – Hammer – Main hand Mace
Ranger – Staff – Rifle – Scepter – Focus (Warden style excluding rifle)
plenty of niceness in the list, but forgive me for being a noob but what is Warden style?
Have gone through several of these. I feel I should just express my exhaustion at hearing the “MMO must have (vertical) grind” thing as much as having to do grind itself. Likewise I think the grinders have won this time, and they have… conquered GW2. But i still hold out hope for a massive multiplayer environment that can do without statistical grind. One can still hope i believe?
Also, even if Eve and Wildstar do allow you to pay off your subscription using an In-Game Currency, you still have to pay for that initial start up subscription (unless they are in the habit of handing out Free Trials to everyone and thus negating their entire profit base completely). And even if you do pay for the subscription with in-game currency, your going to be hard pressed to make a profit with that in game currency unless you spend all your time farming said in game currency and doing absolutely nothing else. Unless the currency drops like literal raindrops in a hurricane, which would further destroy those games profit margins. Which means I don’t particularly think I will be among the rabid fanboys playing those games considering how much trouble I normally have making money in games as it is.
Well you got a good point here to be honest
I played EVE, stopped mainly because subs are really hurting my budget. Really is a nice game nonetheless. But from where I was then, casual relaxed kind of play, like how i enjoyed here, really wudnt pay the bills so to speak.
In my opinion, there are two types of hardcore players:
A) The one who want to go deeper in the game: making alts, trying builds constantly in order to approach a new level of optimization, exploring each zone of land (even the hidden ones, as the room of faces in Queensdale), because “if it’s there, you want to enjoy it”
B) The one who only make one character, repeat ad nauseam the same things (farm—>mine—>farm—>championtrain—>CoFp1OnLyZeRkNoN00bS—> mine—>farm), get the BiS for a berserker and don’t enjoy the game in its fullness because his goal isn’t the game itself, it’s only a path to get a high rank amongst other people like him.
I am in group A, and ascended items cut me tho opportunity of enjoying alts and builds even if I play 7-8 hours at a day or even more (AS I DID). I thought this game was for us (as it was advertised), but definitely arenanet betrayed us and gave this game to the people in the second group
So… I don’t care if ascended are needed, I don’t care if they are a long-term goal, I don’t care if they wanted to implement them before the realease (even in the case they lied to us, then)
I only want to enjoy this game and ascended items stops me for going deeper.
I can so relate to this, and I do agree but nevertheless you do know this is just inviting a “you dont need ascendeds to play, exotics is sufficient” response.
While I always would ask for rifle for ranger and hammer for engineers,…. somebody said… greatsword for necro? hmmm oddly that sounds appealing…ahahah
Leo Paul and Zietlogik said it.
@cranked:
yeah, i spose ill be fine with the regular runs But lets try to make sure they fine tune difficulty of new contents for rare/exotics and not ascendeds. As for amount of stats increase, well I dont know, i guess its something of a personal preference, yknow like its small to some but big to others. But appreciate the reply anyway
If you login every day just to run dungeons and play with friends, why would you feel even remotely pressured to have ascended items? I run dungeons all the time and have one ascended weapon (GS). I have never felt like I needed an additional 2% stat gain to be more effective or have fun. Do you feel the need to get those 10 minute CoF P1 runs from 10 minutes down to 9 minutes 59 seconds?
Haha had to say, no i dont even do CoF farms and quite the opposite, i do not like those speedruns that need to shave off every second either
Heres the thing, while I do believe each ascended piece gives small increase to stats, I personally cannot agree that cumulatively, 6 armor piece + 6 trinkets + weapon(s) still give small increase overall. I’m sorry really, i just cant get myself to accept that. Now while you are right, I dont really need it in current dungeons, a fact im most thankful for, because this can help me almost totally shut out the thought that ascended armors are abt to arrive. But ill tell you what im scared of. Future contents. I know im being outpaced by many farmer/grinders and hey it seems devs want to cater to these, so who can promise that we’ll never have content where it is levelled to this tier of gear. I already see a small few posts popping up from time to time where ppl with top gear asking contents thats doable only for them (not counting fractals, but thats more of an agony thing than stats)
What I want is to be… prepared i suppose, in case it happens. Further more regardless of that, new contents have been quite a bit tougher than regular old stuff. (Levelling my toon in toxic offshoot free wayfarers was easier than stumbling to them in queensdale :P ) and I’m not ashamed to admit, id very musch like best statistical gear to make going through it easier, even if its doable in lesser gear.
Oh and please, dont take any usage of “easier” out of context. I dont want to be required perfect dodges all the time, for example, but that doesnt mean i want to face tank everything, Had to say because exaggerating is big here..
I usually do either Shamans Rookery or the one in frostgorge, i forgot the name…
Didnt i see this thread (or something addressing the same thing) got closed already?
Also, feel free to suggest more armor variations but don’t ruin for people that liked and have made efforts and investments in getting the armor.
Game, for now. Coz i have new toon to explore and level up.
Really is nice playing a lowbie and forgetting the mess of top end stuff
Why don’t we make everything obtainable in a matter of hours and hand max armor to new people that just start the game?
Frankly, that would be a marvellous idea. It worked that way in GW1, and it worked.
100% agree, GW was never about gear, but game play and looks. Let us be able to “Grind” and “farm” sweet looking armor skins and add another 20+ armor sets into the game, more weapon skins and give us some more dungeons with 10man content instances.
agrees, some people dont mind that it seems. Again i would go back to “grind only for looks, not stats” and BiS stats should be easily accessible.
“Then whats the problem?” Mireles asks me.
The problem is, respectfully speaking, is that I login a few hours a day here to play with friends. We, my friends and I, do dungeons. For me, personally, after the dungeon runs, I barely have enough time for not much else. I need to sleep, working the day after yknow. So by that alone, NO dragonite ore, thus no ascended crafting.
Unless i go zerging with the zergs. which leaves me no time for dungeons i spose?
As for the other things, i depleted my cash reserves just for mats to equip my main toon’s weapons. This includes leveling up crafting to 500 (or a bit more for those i never bothered to reach 400). Crafting lvl 425-450 and 475 to 500… well thats just randomly making exotics. Again not enough orichalcums and such, buy inflated prices. which i guess is ok. unless ur broke. Then the actual crafting itself, well thanks to all this kittens prices also gone up.
But thats just fluff i guess. The problem is, in the end, I came here expecting to grind only for cosmetics. Never for best stats. I came because of the promise. And so I’m here venting out that frustration. Pointless really, coz even Anet hated how acessible exotics were, an aspect that made me so love this game when i first played. So if u like long term grindy goals for best stats, well… you win i guess, its heading ur way. But forgive me if ill continue to despise it.
Increase lvl cap probably equates to increase chance of me quitting :P
