What are your feels of having a Healing Role?

A ‘pure’ role, ala holy trinity, is something to avoid in this game. I feel every class ought to be a mix of roles, with some emphasis on one of said role. That said, I really don’t mind having a build that has strong healing, so long as it isnt a “sit still and heal A LOT OF HP and do nothing else”.

1. Account bound dyes FTW, yes I heard tht was the original intent for this game.tell me they didnt go back on that simply because “ohh we can make more moniezzz if we make it character bound!”I’m really hoping for some more plausible reasons.

2. Getting currencies, or banging ur head against RNG to get the same hard to get dye several times for each toon isn’t what I plan on spending my time in game for. I login, I wanna do fun stuff like dungeons or events or such with friends without worrying “wud i get enough cash from this?” or “will it give me a chance to get X”

3. RNG in Gemstore. Like the OP, hell no for me. so sorry, i spent gems on stuff before and likely will do in the future, for cosmetic reasons, but only only ONLY for guaranteed in getting the stuff i am purchasing for. Not “chance” to get it.

I think the only way to get ascended gear should be by running fractals. I also think that ascended gear should not have greater stats that exotics, this way WvW players and anyone else does not feel obligated to acquire these items to stay ‘on par’.

I would sooo agree to this, even if I have spent a bucket load of cash getting ascendeds. Though I doubt we will ever get this, I do wonder if for some strange reason ascendeds were made thus (exotics with infusion slots) how many will be outraged at having lost their few, and some say negligible, stats increase?

Let’s take a look at Anet. They have two games. One of them is 8 years old and probably not a big cash cow. They have all their resources invested in this one high cost project. Five years of work, countless dollars, and this is their shot.

I don’t really see how your story can compare to this.

This isn’t selling out for a dollar. This is making a change for the betterment of your business and again…we don’t even know if the game would have been more successful if it went the other way. It could be dead by now, with half the staff laid off (which has clearly not happened).

Hi. I’m sorry to barge in the middle of this but I find myself asking a few things while reading these posts ( i do read em quite a bit but usually dont care to partake in it ) and was hoping for further clarification on this.

1. Did GW1 really didn’t make enough money? I was under the impression it did rather well. I played and enjoyed the Beta, but since i wasnt yet employed at the time, didnt buy the game, and wasnt deeply into MMOs)

2. And if so, is it true Anet might ..like… totally lose it, if they don’t get enough from GW2? (though I do read it sold quite well, Im hoping to know how else it can be in such dire straits?). Or is this speculative?

Thank you.

Suggestions for Ascended Gear

I like the suggestions. But Im willing to bet next to nothing will be done regarding ascended weapons, save perhaps MAYBE (and this is a big maybe) they might release additional methods of acquisition in the future, as they did some ascended trinkets.

My only ascended stat weapon so far is my legendary, which i got 2 days before the ascended patch came out. While it is beneficial the added damage i get, I really really wouldnt mind if we get re rolled back to exotics level as top tier stats.

I’ll add my voice to this. My friend and I both experience lag issues just now (i was doing an event, he was trying to do pvp) I disconnected at least 4 times in that one event, and numerous times i had to wait thro 10+ second long lag spikes. Other functions using internet (teamspeak and such) are working SMOOTHLY and only GW2’s connections seems to be problematic.

Of course I am one who of those who feels very annoyed with how the game is changing towards more of a grind/farm kind of thing, but I am not really discussing that here.

I am just curious though with so many stuff we can craft that just for one item, uses up to or more than 250 of a particular material, why do we still have a 250 cap on stack of materials. It’s ridiculous that u can store up to only 250 (unless of coz using normal bank space) and yet repeatedly see stuff that will wipe out that entire stack, and by now, stuff that even a whole stack wouldnt be enough.

I am hoping the answer isnt simply because ANet can make money thru gem sales.

The problem for me is with my much limited hours of play per day, in order to get these ores I have to do stuff I don’t really have a high preference for. I do like occasional WvW runs and I’ll happily do world boss events, but I’ve never obsessively chased after these. These are things I do if it so coincides with me being online and not doing anything yet. When I log on, with what hours I have, im more often jumping in when a guildie is asking for dungeon runs or fractals. I enjoy dungeons, and I run them not bothering abt rewards. Thus, I barely have a 100 of these ore.

While on the subject, how many do they usually drop I just did the Frozen Maw at wayfarers, and I got FOUR dragonite ores. SERIOUSLY? or maybe because it was low level map? I think I got a lot more when i coincidentally found a small zerg that sneakily took Stonemist on WvW. And whats the best method to get them for time-constraint folks?

All I can say is looking at the past, it is likely it will make no matter what devs say now. Perhaps they will say we interpreted them wrong. Perhaps they’ll say all those words were just a plan or vision of what they intend at the time but things have changed so they had to go a different direction. I just can’t take dev statements seriously anymore, and even more so knowing they will have white knights conjuring up defenses for their sake.

I don’t mind so much the ascended tier. But I do mind the ridiculousness of its gating and requirements. I do mind if it becomes a treadmill, which despite whatever statements that can be quoted, is always a present risk. And I do mind any means to further boost the power of items, or vertical progressions, regardless of whatever sidestepping or clever wordplay they will use. Is it that hard to just make stuff we can do with our already maxed out gear instead of making content for more farming, more grinding to get higher and higher grade gear?

We sometimes do trivia questions in guild chat and reward right answers with dyes or even exotics sometimes (answer in guild chat only so as to not put unfair advantage for ppl with teamspeak over the mic-less ppl). We play hide and seek, with one person going to some weird place in a map and the rest try to find him/her based on clues the person would give (“i am near a quaggan!”)

Maybe that’s not a game for you? Lack of casting bars, slow motion attacks and other design choices shows it was their intent to made a reflex based game.

Ohh I don’t know, early on this game was fine enough for me. Better than fine, to be honest, likely why I still stick around. But I think others are seeing it too, the increase in 1-shot kill mechanics and such. It’s not THAT bad for the moment, i’ll give you that, but better to try pre emptively (if possible)divert from going that way further. Also, if dodging/reflex is all thats needed to survive, it promotes that other annoyance: dps centric builds only.

But in anycase, you may be right. Maybe it will go in a direction that ends up being no longer my kind of thing, unlike how it was initially. I suppose one day ill move on, maybe…

Holy Grind Wars 2!

generalraccoon.3857

To the people saying ‘exotics were too quick to get so they introduced ascended’, an awful lot of people sang this games praises and came to it because they were told that it was going to be about playing the game not grinding for gear. They even created a cosmetic grind to keep the gear grinders happy in the form of skins and legendaries. The PVE guys who ( I assume) are the ones that wanted another gear level are the ones that dont actually need the bloody gear as there is no content requiring it. The WvW guys who (I assume) did not want the gear are now facing the choice of give up WvW for a few months to do PVE (WvW players are generally rather poor and cannot just buy all the mats of the trade post) in order to get the not insignificant amount of mats and gold required to level up their crafting so they can make the weapons or just ignore the gear level (for your guide, PVP centric players go to great lengths to not be at a gear disadvantage to their opponents).

I have chosen to ignore the gear level and probably quit playing when the armour comes out as the difference in stats will be too high then.. But after a few days since patch WvW has already become farmville with barely any pretence of being anything else any more = not fun for me so probably will be off. For those that are embracing the changes and loving it have fun and I doubt I will see you in another game as we have different tastes.

Thought of putting my opinions on the matter but this largely sums it up. I am one of those that praise the ease in which exotics were obtained, because for me it’s silly to want content (or what passes for it for some) in the form of trying to get to a fun point rather than the fun itself. I prefer a quick means to get the top gear u want, and then spend much more time after doing stuff with said gear (dungeons, fractals, WvW…FUN stuff) rather then spend countless hours trying to obtain said gear. Some would say " you want stuff handed to you" i would say “the point is to do the fun stuff, not preparing for it”. (it should take some effort to get stuff, mind you, but not THAT much).

So unless you buy cash shop transmute crystals then everyone will look the same. good job…

i smell money grab

most probably this. gem prices will go crazy soon as people will want to buy for transmutes.

as to the OP, dungeon badges wont be completely useless so to speak, itll be mainly just a tedious gating to get the “look” that players want, much like cultural t3 armors costing so much yet has only ‘rare’ stats…

my only hope with ascended gear is that, as the new top tier, it will have many means of acquisition, just like exotics before them…

The one thing to note was that there has been many, many discussion about what the original comment of “no grind” meant way back then. that aside, im feeling that there will be time gated stuffs, one of the new mechanics Anet seems to have thought up not too long ago that would help in the ever going need to ensure players wont get new stuff quickly, and most especially not on Day One. I do hope its not something i need to farm insanely for though, im sick to death of all the ‘farm this farm that’ stuffs we’ve been having recently.

for me, while exotics will still be just fine (provided no new content that raises the bar high enough that it gets really hard without ascendeds) i have the ever growing drive to ensure that my gameplay need not be so ‘twitchy’ and ‘make-no-mistake-or-die’ kind of stuff that boost in stats, no matter how small, is always welcome.

How do you want to 'get' Ascended gear?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

generalraccoon.3857

For me, simple, No RNG… or if there be RNG, it’s not the only way. I have no problem with them doing it like how they do Ascended RINGS, or to a point amulet. Time gating is the lesser of two evils compared to RNG, for me. Ascended EARRINGS annoy me a little bit with this silly idea of using TWO currencies. (gold + commendations, or laurels + Ectos) but still ill bite, grudgingly a bit.

Best have multiple ways to get them, not just one.

Having said that, be reasonable with the price and /or duration. putting one armor piece at a BAZILLION currency or even worse, a costing it freakish-load of a currency which u can earn ONE a day, is just punishing players.

"Anything less than "Zerk" is being selfish"

generalraccoon.3857

Not to be a prick and no offense, but the reason zerker geared players die while running with you guys is exactly because he is running with you guys. The zerker player wont be able to avoid that much dmg when the fight is dragging on forever. This is why I run with two pieces of knights….because all I do is PUG. That is my sweet spot when others in my grp are running less than optimal gear for the content. My warrior also pulls out a long bow (thus dragging out the fight) when I think players in my grp are running something akin to white gear in dmg stats.

The only reason I don’t run full zerker is because I don’t bother asking for “zerk only” players, ping gear, etc. Im far too lazy for that. After all, it is the players choice to run with less optimal gear. It doesn’t change the fact that zerker gear is the most optimal gear for pve though.

This is probably answered in this fast growing thread, but i think its still good form to reply on the matter myself. No worries, im not offended by the assumption.

The way these zerker in party dies is simply this, within seconds of a fight they got hit by some aoe or rather hard blow from boss/mobs which doesnt even have to be the deadly 1-shot hit a boss does. Other people do this too, but traited with survival they last still, and with some strong heals, recover in no time. Remember we havent even gotten to any 1-shot-mandatory kill attacks yet. if this is AC, this is Kholer just jumping around still and not even gotten to his wire pull and spin attack thing.

I’ll be fair and not say its a zerker thing but a glass cannony thing, though those are close enough to be one. Now the will be some who ask why are we even taking such damage. It’s simple really, but i dont know if some can grasp it. Because we make mistakes. Because we either got timing off, reflexes not twitchy enough or at times in the midst of combat we miss out the telegraphs. so i dont know, I’m sorry most of us cant match your lvl of skill and reflex? We do try, but to be honest if we all go zerker zerker, by now our rate of success will be much lower, many of us will dread doing dungeons or such to a point the few still dedicated to it will have to pug for runs. But we didnt, we trait for survival, we dont care abt beating or matching an imposed timed constraint. we want to accomplish the dungeon and though we make mistakes but we can recover from it.

So unless zerkers can kill a boss within seconds of the engagement, no its not because the fight is too long for zerker.

I find myself happy assisting others, rez ppl when theyre down and such. MAYBE, just maybe me and mine, we dont see the fun in finishing dungeons in an optimal time. Maybe we see being supportive in other ways than just dps. We enjoy bringing any party of any level of skill a player has and still winning. I’m going to go and say perhaps our value in whats best is in certainty and flexibility rather than optimization. Perhaps this is where we differ.

I apologize beforehand if anyone feels i look down on zerkers though. i really dont. i just think its selfish to assume its the be all and end all way to go in pve. If the current trend is to favor PVT or knights or whatever traits, id still have the same opinion towards the matter. Can we not accept that other people not only prefer not to play as we do, but also perhaps that it is really difficult or they just could not play as we do?

Ergo, you don’t understand that 100% of players don’t play the game the way you do, which was the point of my comment.

I certainly don’t play as the “dps dps dps” people do . While I put some thought to damage output in a build, I always expect mistakes to occur; people will get downed and I hope in some cases i can help bring them up again while being under threat.

But be that as it may,I think we all tend to gravitate to like minded people. So zerker fanatics likely play mostly with zerker fanatics, which through their personal experience shows zerkers have a higher success rate than the rest. Me, after reading such stuff in forums, my phobia towards this kind of streamlined, dare i say elitist, preference means I also stick to running dungeons among guildies, who from leader to most new recruits, are against the zerker philosophy; yes we want to go with the objective of finishing a dungeon but we prefer a slow but safe approach coupled with anyone bringing in whatever they prefer, probably even MF. The few times we do encounter zerker built toons, we tend to keep seeing them flat on the ground. there are those zerkers that pull it off well, but from what i’ve seen so far… they are few and far between.

@Lokki.1092 —thanks for clarifying

Anyhow…NO, it does take some skill and of course reflex to dodge certain attacks, not all attacks have long tell tale signs that makes it so easy to notice and dodge, but more importantly not everyone can have the same skill and reflexes. I want to be civil abt a lot of things, but really, can we stop the ASSUMPTION everyone is able to play at the same level of skill and reflex? some say “play with all zerks and we survive easy and always win etc” while others will say “zerks in my party always die”; this shud be indicative enough that people are very different in gameplay.

And saying just because one is not skilled as you to stop playing is just not right. I don’t really care what gear ppl wear, but i do worry this trend of " do things like we do or else .." spreads to a point where it just kills the game for variety and generally average ppl, or where not following the crowd style brings a kind of stigma in a player.

I’m wondering if “zerk” here is just using all berzeker gear or is it using all berzerker gear plus traiting a character for simple zerky dps as well. (dont mind so much the former). Im just curious, sorry, because listening to pro zerkers sometimes makes it sound as if anyone not even remotely braindead should be able to go thru any pve content with zerkers; a statement i find quite false, distasteful and arrogant in fact.

They should definitely do more to make support/control roles viable. That I agree with 100%.

supports this :p for me im hoping also to see encounters where dps alone cannot solve things, or even better, if simply too much dps-ing can be detrimental to the success. I love mechanics that requires coordination, non direct application of dmg, because it seems a more creative way of getting things done.

Why zerk is better than most armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

generalraccoon.3857

The assumption I am reading off this is that everyone is equally high skilled kind of player. Most players aren’t that kind of "I can dodge ANYTHING and need no survival gear to win’ kind of players. I’m not even talking about casuals vs hardcore. players, in general, are typically averagely skilled, some are better some are worse. So i cant really accept that longer runs= more risk. ive seen too many wipes occur because ppl try to just dps through a boss and do not prioritize group survival. Ive seen many people who did such runs feel very much happier at completing it more safely with some team mates that assist in survival for the team. most even say its faster (because lack of wipe, so before any of you say those “l2p” lines, again, not everyone can be THAT skilled)

Mind you, i dont fault zerker gear specifically. I like to have some zerker gear at times too. I just think it (full zerk) requires a skill threshold that not a majority of players have. so for me, for a gear to be considered better, it has to very good/useful/powerful in the hands of the less skilled, and even more so in the hands of the skilled.

I’ll read through this in a bit but I’ll let it be known I’m firmly in the non-zerker group. to keep it simple, its about mistakes, making them and surviving them. I’m not too fond of severely punishing myself. I want to not dread trial and errors so much. Zerkers also thrive (in the contents that favor dps especially) with other zerkers, because the longer a fight goes the more chances they can get downed. (faster kill less chance for boss to kill u eh? or so thats the thought) so I really find that boring. i prefer a group/party of different builds and professions. I’m also a non-famer. I want to earn things without worrying or finding out the most min-max freakish optimal way but to also have fun doing things.

generalraccoon.3857

I always hear about gw2 has no trinity but is just a dps game. My usual party includes at least 1-2 of us that do not have high dps. In fact, their dps is quite laughable compared to mine, which i am not even a ‘zerker build’ (and i never will make this build) but they do provide valuable support functions. Keeping ppl up (not just by healing) and this is how we run dungeons and fracs. We may not be the fastest ‘elite’ runners type but my guild leader always promotes our little group within the guild as those that will likely guarantee success in any run, best to help new ppl get into dungeons and such. Not trying to brag, but trying to point out that it need not always be dps dps dps, which seems to me largely a player choice. (dps centric zerker type groups also seemed to be very unforgiving of mistakes, another thing i despise about it.)

What do i think of the trinity?

I dont think its an abomination. I dont think its THAT bad. but i can respect, and encourage, systems that try to break away from it, go in a different direction. I think there will be some games that will still have trinity, and why not? it worked, in its own way. But we need it NOT in GW2. So for me, if i want a trinity game, ill go elsewhere, and no, im not saying "this game is not for you, trinity lovers " but rather that should i want it or in the mood for it, i can get it elsewhere but if im tired of it, i can come here. having choices is nice

The vote is a warning shot across Anet’s bows. Most players either don’t like RNG boxes or don’t care about them. It’s ok that they’re there, some people like gambling, but the vote for Kiel was mainly a vote against making RNG any bigger than it is already in the game.

i.e. even when sweetened with what would have been more interesting content lore-wise, the players voted against.

That should tell Anet something.

This is very much the primary reason i vote for Kiel!

Id say due to the size of the characters, if norns need to move as fast yet has covers the same speed as humans do, theyd have to take little baby steps or something. THAT, or have them seemingly slide or skid on the ground somehow, which is just bad animation. I can’t figure out how else this can be done… except maybe alter your preception

Dailies - the bane of modern games

I am always for giving as much chance for everyone to get rewards in the game, but the fact is the rewards for dailies is always there. You can do it every day or every few days, at your own pace. The only difference is the rate of which you achive ur goal with the laurels or whatever daily rewards. Unless the idea is to be against anyone having more than you yourself have (which is silly, because theres always someone who has more than you, one way or anothers thats just life), then i really can’t fault the system.

Forget about why THEY implement the system, think whether or not you will completely miss out on the rewards; that’s how i look at things in this game. and with dailies, you really dont miss out much at all.

Hates:

RNG boxes getting most hate it seems. I’ll add one more to support that.

Story could be better. It seems flat at times.

Temporary contents galore.

Maybe an asuran warrior ? Not talking about a genius Snaff like kind but a mean little kitten that would make Rytlock hide his tail….

oooh this would be so nice. just because asuras are small is no reason for them not to be seen as heavy front line figures eh?

Legendaries… im going for the looks. it has a certain color scheme and all that can complement my look. I really am not impressed by people with legendaries at all, but then my main concern is making my toons look good, i care little for reputation, exclusivity or anything that seems to me to be minding more on other peoples stuff…

[ ] Have Children
[ ] Are an Adult
[x] Have a Life
[x] Have no Manual Dexterity

You Think Living World is too:

[ ] Hard

You are Currently Threatening to:

[x] Tell the Internet That You are Upset

I’d opt for the dog kicking if i hadnt a phobia of dogs
