Ascended Armor

Why don’t we make everything obtainable in a matter of hours and hand max armor to new people that just start the game? Because you know there should be no gates at all and having to actually perform for stuff goes against the original idea of the game of not having gear progression. Gawd forbid you have to actually play the game to get stuff.

Oh im bored so ill bite with this…

Hours? Maybe a little short, a few days would be nice, but that’s just me, personal opinion . Handing out max armor to people… its funny how there will always be such comments when there are people who are against grind, and really its a grind. I assume thats exaggeration/sarcasm but still i’ll answer to this: No i dont think items should just be handed out but neither should they take so much of your in-game time to get. I really wish we would all stop resorting to extremes. Now I dont mind if it were cosmetics, i mean yknow like what they used to say, grind only for looks? But BiS stuff, id rather it was easier to obtain, regardless of tier. But I guess this is a no-win anymore for me because i loved the fact how accessible exotics were as BiS items, back in the day so to speak, but devs clearly despised that fact, they said so somewhere i think. (or maybe thats also in part because of people whining nothing to do after lvl 80?) Oh well. I lose in that, what to do?

Oh and yes, I do play the game to get stuff. As is proper to get stuff. I play the aspects that I like. As is proper for a form of entertainment, for fun. I like dungeons, and a lot of my gear came from that. The gold and karma from dungeon runs i use to supplement it further for a few more items or gearing alts even (i dont farm CoF1 or such back then, we usually run random dungeons here and there).. World bosses are fine… i suppose…, but i dont enjoy joining the zergs to run after them one by one (ITS BORING, for me… really, i tried), and prior to ascended crafting this never made an issue as far as getting BiS item goes. Also, I levelled some crafting but after I realize there would be a lot of TEDIOUS material gatherings/or spend gold on the ever price hiking TP for the mats, i put that REALLY REALLY low on my list. What I dont get now is why I have to be forced to go all over to get the stuffs i need, because far from making me appreciate the game, i’m growing quite frustrated with it.

Also time gating. I am in the middle with this, i had no complaints as far as celestial armor went when it was first introduces, with all those quartz stuff. I thought it a little silly but oh well so were dailies for laurels, so im not really against it. But that plus all the other crap in ascended crafting, for certain i despised it.

…Now before introduction of ascendant gear, I thought GW2 had best gear system of all time. Not only u had option to get equipment on numerous ways (dungeons, karma, crafting, drops, from tp, wvw…) but also u had plenty of looks to choose from. Exotic is in my opinion the best possible gear system of all times.
It was easy to access, it wasn’t boring because u could get it on different ways. It was so great I geared 7 alts fully exotic, and my main had 4 different sets. It was great for experimenting builds.

for what its worth, this was what i thought too in those early days. I actually recall i was impatient enough to try new characters and just couldnt wait to test out builds for them. Gearing for BiS was so not an issue that such things was fun.

Ascended backpiece, when i saw what was needed, seemed to be the only thing of annoyance in terms of grind at the time but stats was small and it was for just one item.

Well people didn t notice the vertical progression they sneaked in the game silently _

Its called Agony Resistance that now is infinite.

In the perfect style of korean mmorpg you can combine AR to get an infinite numbers exactly how it happened for +1, +2, +3 weapons.

Its already an issue for any player wanting to play fotm 50 ._.

and it could be worse soon.

If that is the future of ascended i think this game will become the usual f2p korean grindy mmorpg very soon.

haha true true. Actually i did notice that but because i have always opted not to go “all the way” in fractals, its not big on my list. but yeah, thanks for pointing that out

Y know i prefer time gating by itself (like those celestials) than time gating and gold/heavy resource gating as well as making you go through many aspects of the game you dont want. And please dont call that simply playing the game. i like dungeon running over running around in world zergs, im still playing the game as well.

Alternatives for RNG

I hate RNG, and but I understand why it can be beneficial in certain cases, BUT NOT ALL.

For starters, for things like cosmetics, i would like if there are at least two ways to get a particular skin, a luck based way (RNG) and a more certain way of getting it. This usually leads to the dreaded… grind, but im ok with that if its just cosmetics.

tempted to argue abt BiS stats related stuff but ill just end it here and avoid that.

I play since day one, with some breaks for months, I got 8 chars 80, i do mostly WvW, all i get on all my chars is 1 amulet/2 rings at best, for only 1 Build/gear. I don’t want getting earing since it cost 50 ectos and 40 daily laurels even in WvW….(lol)

I’ve tried to craft, and after 60 gold sinked,i’m only at 460 around in weaponsmith …so i stop it, for brankrupt. I don’t even mind finish my weapon, and don’t want to try for amors, i can’t loot a weapon on tequal,my server rarely kill him/months…

I don’t want to spend more gold or buy any gems,to get it or help for it (Or to get new skins for armor or weapons ).

So i play most of the time with exotic gear only, and mostly with very old skins…to try to find any fun in this game. But how much time i will do this, when a lot of people will get same build with beter stats ?

Could i win again a 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 1 ?

Oh and i don’t even mind for a legendary, more over this…

A friend of mine just told us recently how he beat this other guy in WvW in a duel of sorts, where my friend was using all exotics and no food buffs, while the other guy had a legendary (thus ascended level stats) and food buffs. I cant recall the details much other than my friend was on his thief and that the fight was a bit lengthy. Since he was the most skilled of us in PvP i guess the answer is, yes its possible to win a 1 on 1, but with good skills…. [which i dont have though hence i pve more ]

Option 3. Anet stops feeding the locust and removes this crap from the game.

Then the locusts leave and the game withers on the vine and dies.

The player base that sustained GW1 is not large enough to sustain GW2. As such, Arena.net has to appeal to the larger MMO market, and those people are the content locusts. They LIKE the grind. They LIKE the treadmill. They WANT to feel more powerful with their phat lootz.

Arena.net tried to cut a middle line… with relatively shallow vertical progression. It kittened off the GW1 veterans anyway. It SEEMS to have appealed to the locusts, as supposedly concurrent player numbers have been on the rise.

I’m sorry that news is harsh, but it’s true.

I think this is quite true, much as I hate the fact.

I’m wondering if there are alternatives, y know… like a kind of game thats awesome enough like GW2 when it was initially released, but one where we dont ever need content locusts and gear grinders to keep the game going? I have to ask because i know eventually people like me would just get burnt out and of course we would then wanna know, where next?

What's wrong about grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

Grind is needing to repeat content so much to obtain something that the content itself no longer becomes enjoyable, and your only motivation for repeating the content is for whatever you are trying to obtain.

At least that’s my definition.

There’s a lot of things in GW2 that I view as grind.

I totally share this view…

I know its been said this was coming. So ive been dreading it all this while, but let me just say that personally this… is just… too soon. Much too soon. I’m still trying to blot out from my mind the braindead mind boggling frustration that was grinding to get stuff to make just one of my toons fully ascended when the weapons came out. Thereafter despite friends still grinding for it, i avoided ascended crafting stuff (dragonite ore farm, salvage exotics for dark matter) like a plague.

Yeah i get the whole “small stats difference” argument, and I get that “most content is still easily done in exotics” thing, but having had care and put in investments in my toons, it really really really annoys me to know im running on the second best gear level. Aesthetics? from what ive seen its crap to me, but the stats, i do so want tohave toons that are statistically top notch.

to add to that, ANet seems to me to have consistently made ascended grind worse with each new addition. To date it still boggles me why on laurels vendor, Trinkets/Earrings are much more expensive than an Amulet, which has bigger stats numbers. I am seriously dreading to think what length of grind these armors would compel us to do.

So, to sum it, I know it eventually would come, but it doesnt lessen how negatively i feel towards it. I dont like gear grinding. I dont want to have a goal of “having new gear to work towards”. I want new stuff that i can do with the gear i already have and NOT new gear.

I’ll probably do my best to ignore this new aspect of gear grind. Long term goal? Dont know if i need one, as most of my friends/guildies are getting burnt out by the grind after grind. I’m hoping we’d all stay for a whole year more but i cannot say that with confidence now.

That said, just because its an upgrade for a 119g armor set/skin, doesnt mean the price shoud be way too high though. Just to voice my thought incase 1k+ gems comes to mind for price

In my mind 800 gems seems like a fair price for the upgrades. Everything else is 800 gems and that’s an ok price

I agree to 800 gems!

[Merged] Cultural Human T3 Not Exclusive

generalraccoon.3857

I’ve been reading the threads post dev-reply and I know A LOT of people complained about cost and self exclusivity, but I personally find it hard to think that that is just it. I feel like.. devs likely did (removal of said item) it because how strong the sentiment is over it being culturally exclusive. Racial/cultural restriction on such sets have been a game feature since release. The base skin for the other 2 (heavy and medium) are skins that can be obtained by any character after creation (and doing prequisite stuff like get badges/karma) while for culturals its predetermine by race choice in character creation.

However it all went, it seems clear, for now at least, ANet wish to stand with the concept of race exclusive armor. And I do too, but I figure the way to go is to discuss, and perhaps convince by a large majority to abolish the cultural limitation concept. Maybe one day you would get Anet to let go of cultural exclusiveness.

On the plus side, seeing how some people invested on the armor, it seems the base idea of culturals, for human light T3 at least, is very well designed and liked to get such commitment to it. Kudos to the original design concept.

I am quite pleased at making this look without having any second piece from a same set. Each piece comes from different set.

Chest: Krytan (gemstore)
Shoulder: Twisted Watchwork (living story)
Leggings: Vigil (Order)
Gloves: Human Cultural Tier 2
Boots: Crafted Leather boots

*Headgear (is hidden because i spent gems for that hair!) is suppose to be from Temple armor set

Removing Race Restrictions on Cultural Armors

in Suggestions

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

generalraccoon.3857

Firstly, I’d say this is the way to go after what happened with the Flamekissed armor issue, instead of one group of the community making snide remarks about each other in the aftermath of a dev response. I was actually thinking that we should instead discuss on the matter of racial/categorical restriction on cosmetics.

To matter at hand though, I would choose to opt for having cultural restrictions. People talk about uniqueness and exclusivity. Those are to me good points to consider but mainly, I opt for said restrictions because of a matter of rewards, as well as choice and consequence. I look at the tier 3 culturals as a possible choice reward for playing a particular race. It’s the “pros” to consider when you decide on the choice of which race should your toon be.

And as with choice there will be consequences. I think for a game, choice and consequences are a good thing to have. Call it having… depth.. or character. So when you decide on a race for a toon, you would have then decided with the knowledge that some options are now available to you (and those that chose the same as you, regardless of how few or many they are) while some options will without doubt now be denied to you.

Making any choice to have access all rewards with no consequence feels cheap for me. (And please, dont equate my saying “cheap” to simply meaning monetary value be it in game or real life )

Scarlet's Redemption

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

For me, the simple first thing is to see less of her. I get that Anet wants their darling psychotic Scarlet as the star of the LS, but i do think it works to their advantage by not shoving her in our face all the bleedin time.

And quit the repetitive “Scarlet escapes again” gag at the end. Tying with my first point, if she wasnt psychically present she wont need to ‘escape’.

And oh yea it really is far tooo lonnnnggg that theyre in the phase of “establishing the plot” for the story, GET ON WITH THE STORY ALREADY and start unveiling the next phase of her plan or sumthin instead of instead of introducing more “Alliances”. Show me what happens next to say the molten alliance after we kicked their sorry behinds or such. Continue with what we players have achieved instead of broadening even more plot establishments.

You know i had to get this out of me so ill say it. A number of people, quite a lot i suppose, hated vertical gear progression and want horizontal gear progression. But here, in storytelling, we’re ready and begging for the “vertical” progression of the stories, we dont want more horizontal progression of story/plots. Well, at least thats how i am seeing it, :P

Having been reading through all this, my sentiments are along with what Glenstorm has been saying.

Right now, human t3 light looks is technically no longer exclusive to the race. If this is a precedence for things to come, then its likely the very concept of racial/cultural armor will be gone. That for me feels like another loss in the aspect of what Gw2 originally was, or to put it simpler, it feels to me more of a shallower game. This direction towards homogenizing availability of looks to me feels uninspired and shallow and cheap.

As I asked before, somewhere, what next? Making armor class looks universal ?(such as light armor skin design for heavy armor users etc).

Scarlet may not be going away, true. But i still think it shud be said, and said again, and preferably with supporting points, about the failure that is scarlet. At the very least, im hoping, really really hoping, that the feedback might help devs make better choices and designs in other things and not repeat this scarlet debacle.

Mind you I dont really hate the type of character scarlet is suppose to be. I guess a maniacal, chaotic, insane villains can be fun. But i do feel they (devs) are trying too hard to with scarlet that its quite annoying. its like… if they could, theyd likely say it’s scarlets fault for global warming (im exaggerating, i know :P ). For me, Scarlet was at her best when we never really know her. When she was mentioned but little else. While i dont object to her showing her face once in a while, but having her go all over like a teenager on social media sites fishing for more “likes” and “friends”, it will just keep going downhill.

My opinion:

I dont usually care for rarity or the typical “i want to be unique so the armor/stuff im using must be REALLY hard to get” sentiment. I dont really mind the on going gemstore armor sales, so long as its not gemstore RNG.

But this i gotta ask, whats the point of having the concept of “cultural armor” let alone one that cost 100++ gold (althoough at the rate of gem>gold exchange is heading, 800 gems might amount to as much in the future) in the game anyway.

Maybe theyre just testing it, see the player reactions. I get that light human t3 is nice, on females is sexy as hell, so might be a good way to sell gems. If so id say we should protest against this.. I feel this isnt abt exclusivity to specific players but is about part of the lore/content of the game that gives racial diversity to characters.

So, a big NO to that.

The Game feel kind of unplayable to me.

I have noticed much more ‘visual lag’ recently though… not sure if this is what is meant.

Three examples,
1. I walk to a resource node but cannot harvest it. I have to walk around it (around + front and back), all the time pressing ‘F’ to finally get an interaction a few steps away from the node,

2. In the Toxic Tower in Kessex, I suddenly die (no attacks etc) on the ramps leading up to the final platform and no one seems to be able to rez me even though they see me. Then I relog and apparently, I’ve fallen to my death and my body is really far under the platform.

3. In the Toxic Tower again, I believe I am standing next to the Dyson air purifier to get rid of the toxic spores but after waiting 2 minutes, it doesn’t get removed. Again, I relog and apparently I am some distance away.

Hey, I got this too. Problem 1 in particular, i usually dodge out and dodge back in again.

Also, to add some other weird stuff happening is like,
-going out of water and onto land but still wielding/having aquatic weapons. Again dodging seems to fix this. But this has never happened this much until the recent patches.
-game lags, no skill activations etc and party members seem like they keep running and running and into wall but still running… for over 10 seconds sometimes, if not more. While id usually say this is network lag, the in game chat was still very active.

In a glance it is quite nice and I managed to get to the top of the tower largely solo except for the 3rd floor. All in all, good stuff. I am hoping to really systematically do the achieves this weekend particularly nightmare chambers.

So far ive got to 6 out of 9 chambers, missing only the 3rd floor chambers, But i only finished four of them because twice i entered a chamber, fought the first mob in the room and then…nothing. The pathway usually leading to next area did not open, some flashy thing was there that kept down-ing me when i get close.

Importance of End Game (scale 1-10)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’d put in at abt 6 for my personal rating on the importance of end game.

I think having stuff to do end game (that is when u reach lvl 80) is quite important. And by stuff to do i dont mind grinding, farming and all tht. To put it simply its not abt getting more gear, its about what we can do with the gear. The former should not outweight the latter.

Having said all that, I’d still put in some concern for non end-game stuffs. Lower level things to do, places to go, more variety for new players to experience the game; more than what we had when we lvled up our toons. It would, hopefully, let new toons/players mingle with some older ones as it wont be exclusive lvl 80 only.

A bunch of us were kinda unhappy when presented with solo only instances. Dont get me wrong, i dont think we must force group only content, but rather allow for people to go either way. And another note, this is NOT because of content too hard etc. It has little to do with difficulty (although challenging content, skillwise and not because grind or rng, is always welcome) but because we just find it more fun to do stuff together with friends.

Fixing the Warrior / Nerfing Passive Play

in Warrior

Posted by: generalraccoon.3857

generalraccoon.3857

I do not own a warrior. Probably will never roll one also. From me personal experience, the main problem is that when a warrior is running away it is nearly impossible to catch them. With the correct food / runes /traits they can get up to almost no immobilize or cripple duration. Along with the passive regen from the Healing Signet. No other class in the game has a passive regen for a heal. Instead we all have healing on attack (for like 200 a hit). The reason people have an issue with the Healing Signet is because warriors are able to get away and there is no way to stop them. They have the top mobility in my opinion in the game. If a warrior stays around for the duration of the fight, yes it is possible to kill them with burst and only burst.

Why should it be any different, though? Should a Warrior be squishy just because many other Professions are? Why should they fall as fast as-for instance-a thief under intense firepower, if they lack the same escape measures and are basically a different, Heavy Armor Profession? Indeed the problem once was that even with all that vitality, it wasn’t hard to down Warriors due to poor sustain (and the Guardian, IME, is still way more resilient.) It is normal for a Warrior to not die easily in most Fantasy archetypes-even pen and paper RPGs.

Also, Warriors do not have the “best mobility” in the game-it all depends on the build they are using.

You have fought many Warriors, but have played none, which would explain your post. Nothing wrong with disliking the Warrior Profession to be sure, but it is much more easy to fight your enemy if you understand the way he/she thinks (or more accurately for GW2, the way it is being played.)

I generally agree with StarAce here. Healing signet is very largely the warriors sustainability and thus, in part, survivability, but even as it is now its not comparable to a guardians (not that im asking for it to be). I mean we have no reflects, no protection and i think thats rightly so, because those should be the domain of guardians. So HS is rounding off that lack of sustain so that we remain, as a soldier/heavy armor class, a viable frontline profession.

My opinion is that if there is a problem with the actual skill its not the passive, but rather the lackluster active, which shud do something other than just heal some hitpoints.

I only look into my top 4 professions, Warrior, Ranger, Engineer and Mesmer.

Now i know its not final, but I do hope this goes through. I’m ok with most of these changes, and I’m looking intensely on ranger changes specifically, because… well, we all should know what goes in the ranger subforums anyhow

With these changes, IF it gets through, id actually be quite interested in spirit builds now.

And seriously, I like Warrior healing signet as it is.

Will People Play Content They Don't Enjoy?

Im forced to do open world events to get dragonite. I sure as hell dont enjoy them. But if I want to finish ascended gear on all my alts Im gonna have to.

And why are you grinding out Ascended gear?
To make content you already don’t enjoy even easier?

So I can have BiS for speed clears and fractals. Why do you think? I dont open world, its dull. Doesnt mean I dislike all pve.

And why are you continuously repeating speed clears and fractals?
I’m willing to bet it’s not for enjoyment, but rather to aid in the grind for more shiny stuff.

Just to add a bit, this is an interesting line of…conversation, for me in particular.

1. For me, after totally destroying my gold savings and running and chasing after world bosses for TWO ascended weapons, i called it quits on that. My main already had my only legendary and having my second weapon + 1 underwater weapon an BiS, i force myself to be content with tht. But I do have a friend who kept grinding on world bosses so that he could get some 5-6 of his weapons to ascended ( his guard has multiple builds and can do some diverse amont of stuff)

Now we dont do speed clears in dungeons much, we dont value time completion as much as having a smooth, no-one-dies-in-the-run success. And playing support, he does want to be the best his toon can offer to the party, this is what he enjoys out of it. In short, we want to be better at our dungeon runs, but NOT because we r aiming for more shinies, but because we just like running dungeons with friends and guildies. we like taking new ppl in dungeons and helping them learn it. stuff like that. most of us have more tokens than what we need, and thank god for the Wallet, else i dunno how much bank space we’d waste

2. to link with the topic of this here thread, ive talked about the whole “grind” matter with some of my friends, including the one i mentioned in point1. The thing is, we enjoy dungeons, as ive said but does he resent the grind to ascendeds? Thats a clear Yes. And TooBz stated two points worth echoing for my context here. First is that the lack of competitors GW2 have at this current time, because we hate WoW and ‘regular MMOs’ and with GW2 turning this way, we are starting to look into other options. the lack of said options is why we are mostly still here. Second point is about how this “grinding” burns goodwill. Again I agree because some months ago, we were all enthusiastic for..expansions, or new contents. These days, we are very skeptical of any…promises, and even the promise of a full, normal style expansion seems to have lost its appeal.

I’m just stating what is the case for me and mine. Just felt like sharing

Expansion please

Theres been so much request for expansions, but

1. with so much LS updates itll likely take a while, if at all.
2. with what many have perceived to be unfavorable direction the game is going, ppl will still be sceptical i think of what other stuff anet brings out.
3. then theres talk of it dividing community as some ppl dont mind buying exp and some do…

How do you play your alts?

Warrior: My main, primary powerhouse and the toon i expect to be able to reasonably go thru contents. PvE only.

Ranger: Secondary PvE, also my favourite solo jumper for puzzles.

Mesmer: WvW Roaming and group puzzle jumper, coz i love porting ppl up.

Engineer: Recently tweaked to be PvE viable but mainly for WvW

Guardian: I’m still looking into this.
