If dungeons weren’t so easy to run (CoF p 1 & 2, all of AC, etc. etc.) then I’d probably agree with you. But if you can finish a dungeon in less than 15 minutes and get ~2-5g (varying on drop qualities) a run as is… I don’t think they need to be more profitable.

Not unless Anet wants an economy where it’s extremely easy for anyone to get lots and lots of gold.

You can do them in 15 minutes but you won’t have many drops. And doing harder dungeons (arah) in 15 minutes requires more than pressing 1, thus should be rewarded proportionally.

How many enemies are in dungeons? By upping the elite reward, you’re practically multiplying the dungeon rewards exponentially and dungeon running becomes insanely profitable (more so than now that is).

Unless dungeon mobs get nerfed to high-leveled Veterans mixed in with Elites, I don’t want to see elites in dungeons having that great of an increase in rewards. Even a small increase can have dramatic effects when you take in the number of elites you kill.

Maybe dungeons should be more profitable than running in open world and pressing 1. I don’t see anything wrong with rewarding people for their effort.

Anet/John Smith most likely don’t want any items to sell at or under vendor price. The issue is that vendoring these items creates money. If you post on the TP, it actually destroys money because of the 15% total fees.

This is most likely in combination with ascended to reduce the overall amount of scrap and leather on the trading post, as I think they are both in the millions of supply.

Supply will be lowered because of silk → gossamer relation via mystic toilet.

Just search for your self on google for people complaining that they’re unable to finish the event because people are purposefully failing them for profit and see for yourself.

Again, complains on forum are not valid because only a minority comes and whines. It is one of the reason why Anet oft does not listen to players’ feedback here but uses their own metrics. Fans of this game should be aware of that.

Full reward? you’re kidding right? AFKing the event will give you 50s most of the time perhaps 1g if you get good drops of the 5 chests.

Playing the invasion rather then staying afk gave you a lot more then 1g. again dont take my word for it:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/speech/Clockwork-Chaos-will-cause-great-inflation/first#post2703392

You can get similar rewards for zerging different chain events, it just happens less frequent, hence the dramatic thread.

Yes I do:
massive thread on reddit by people complaining they cant finish the event for the achievement
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/1kxja7/anyone_else_getting_stuck_with_invasions/

and this
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/speech/Scarlet-events-ppl-failing-it-to-farm-champs/first

But even going without data per-se. It was a ton more profitable to farm the event then win it so thats what most people did. Not only that but the event was designed to take longer if you zerged and what do most people do? zerg. So much so they ended up nerfing the events to try to make them less profitable but that still didnt help cause the whole event rewarded you

So if we go by linking to reddit threads we might as well confirm that ascended gear should be deleted because there is an outrage there and even on this forum. Good that we are on the same page.

Nice hyperbole on using word ‘massive’.

Actually though I have a question so you said you Akitten invasions yet you’d move to do other things the moment the invasion finished. So you Akitten staring at the monitor waiting for the event to complete? what possible reason could you have for that. Its definitely not more fun then getting in and farm the events themselves during the event and you’d get many times the reward too doing it. at the end the invasion gave you 26s+5 boxes max and thats like what you get killing maybe 5-10 champions which a single sky pirate event during the invasion would supply you in one go.

Have you heard about this key combination alt-tab? Allows you to do something else like watching a movie or even playing different game while getting full reward in gw2.

Zerging is getting ridiculous

in Tower of Nightmares

Think of it this way.

The only reason NOT to zerg in open world PvE in other MMOs is the player griefing and limited resources. Kill stealing. Player killing. Murdering people and shooing them away from a farming spot. Camping mobs and bosses on their respawn so that YOU and YOUR guild can get the loot, not someone else.
With the removal of that, with the approach that everyone gets loot as long as the target is tagged – and that’s easy to do – and with no open world PvP, there is absolutely no reason NOT to zerg around in open PvE. Yes, there are some events which scale well with a medium-sized zerg (like the Grenth’s temple), making them actually a kittenallenging, but they’re still doable and any challenge is alleviated if the zerg swells bigger or if some of its members leave, frustrated after two wipes.

In anyone’s sane mind, when people are set for rewards and getting the new content done as fast as possible, why players should NOT be zerging now?

You got it partially wrong. If you actually want to do something fast you should never zerg. You cannot control how zerg plays and most of the zerglings simply spam auto-attacks ignoring existing mechanics. I do not know how fast an average zerg can do those bosses but here are the examples of temple events done by just few people who have never done it before or have done it only few times before:

Zerging is getting ridiculous

in Tower of Nightmares

QFT.

Open world content whether designed as a Group Event or casual solo is fine when done by a handful of players but gets trivialized by a zerg. What becomes challenging is not fighting the mobs or the mechanics of the content themselves but the race to tag as many mobs as possible to get loot credit. They need to do some sort of anti-zerg scaling with all kinds of open-world content like what they did with Tequatl.

Indeed. We could compare any temple event done by a zerg of 30+ people with same temple event done by a small group of people (5 and less). You can literally go afk with you ranged autoattack turned on, come back in 2-3 minutes and the sweet shiny reward is yours to grab. With the small group, said temple event actually present at least minor challenge (lyssa) or they are even harder than most of the dungeons, including arah (melandru).

One of the reason why is that is because bosses have no tools to deal with zergs. Their attacks can down at most 5 people who will be revived in seconds by the rest of the zerg. If you try it with a low amount of the people, one attack can down your whole party.

I wouldn’t mind the loot table for elites being raised, especially outside of dungeons, but overall I don’t think the “difficulty” of these mobs is worth complaining about. Maybe they’d have a guarantee white champ loot bag (never having a chance at the green or exotic versions… are there fine versions? I only get white green and orange text colors; if there’s blue then that could be the “high level/rare” drop for them). Cannot be the green version as then they’d be farmed too, I wouldn’t doubt. Though either case would be a big no for the dungeon variants.

Especially outside of dungeons? Everyone skips in dungeons because elites drop junk. There are like 2-3 weekly threads complaining about skipping in dungeon subforum and the reason is that it is a complete waste of time not to skip elites.

Just require a mix of both ranged and melee combat.

If you are lazy just use fractal boss approach that are way more balanced than dungeon ones.

Ranged combat makes players simply leech of their teammates in melee. You don’t have to do anything except kiting, snaring and lazer-spewing. Fractal bosses have horrible mechanics because they are highly anti-melee, how many players melee imbued shaman, ashyn (especially in phase 3), archdiviner in phase 2, dredge suit, ice elemental, mossman or bloomhunger? Those bosses are so fun, kite around them and pew-pew with longbow/scepter. Engaging, I’d say. For you, maybe.

just this…
Did you ever pug?
Makes sense …buy a mmoprg and play with the usual 5-10 players…then complain the game is boring

Imagine some of us had to pug before they found their new friends. But later on they found people who also decided that running with bads is a simple waste of time. Well, I guess that might be a definition of fun for someone.

But yes you’re right in that in zergs a lot of people autoattack and switch off their brain not disagreeing with that. Just saying that different sizes of players also has an effect on speed due to scaling of the event.

5 people autoattacking will still be faster then 25 people autoattacking.

Want to bet that 5 people will not be faster than 25 if they have exactly same builds and do exactly same things? Some people can solo dungeon bosses who do not scale, faster than an average pug (giganticus lupicus).

The catch up argument is wrong.
time gate or not there is simply no difference.

If you can farm say 300 tokens a day and you want reward to take 5 days to earn whether you ask for 5 laurels or 1500 tokens if you dont play for 2 days its going to take you 7 days whether you’re asked for 5 laurels or 1500 tokens.

Catching up is also wrong because there is nothing to catch up to.

I can take a day off, play more and get 600 tokens. Or instead of doing daily gathering I’ll do another path and get more tokens as well. Who would have thought it was possible?

whats the link between story quality and game mechanics now? There are people who like scarlet as a villain as well. Not everyone has to put everything into stereotype containers. Example in that same page you linked who have Afya who says “I like Scarlet. She has more character than all other NPC we met. I hope more about her will be revealed in the future” and Inculpatus cedo who said " I enjoy the Living Story updates (usually), and I like Scarlet."

What are you babbling about? I’m saying that people who are in complete opposition of me regarding game mechanics (kinda like you) have exactly same opinion on the story.

You were right, my mistake I checked and invasions took 45 mins not 60. That being said they never ended after 20 – 30 mins. in fact most of them failed which means they took all the 45 mins and those that succeeded at least the ones I participated it won by only a couple of minutes.

I’m sure you have a source for that. You couldn’t possibly get this data out of your Maximus Gluteus.

speed depends a lot how large the zerg is, its not necessarily an issue of player skill. A group of 5 people is pretty fast because a group even will not scale up. 3 will be a bit slower cause you’re under numbered probably. But when you get to the 10-25 range the event will slow down cause the event scales up a lot to deal with the extra players. It will start to speed up again the more people you end up over 25 since the event stops scaling up at 25.

Speed does not depend on the size of the zerg. Otherwise, how group of 7 people can kill risen priest of baltahzar in 42s while zerg of 100 people needs more than 5 minutes? Either some events scale up to 100 people [1] or 7 people are dealing about 22 more damage. Zerg is slower because:

  • zerglings are bad
  • zerglings mostly autoattack
  • zerglings use ranged weapons
  • zerglings wear cleric’s gear
  • zerglings do not understand mechanics (i.e. lyssa)
  • zerglings die constantly

Time gating is the answer actually. What they did with the dailies was simply genius but people have trouble understanding that a reward thats intended to take a month to achieve has to take a month to achieve. The question is what do you end up doing during that month. With the dailies you do absolutely anything you want to do and you dont have to grind because 1 hr or 10 hrs you still are going to do a day progress in any single day so there is no problem with keeping the requirements light which they do. Without dailies on the other hand you’ll end up grinding because a day now has to mean a day of work and not a mere 30 mins like it is with dailies. So in a sense they’re forced to spread it around else it would be nightmare. Imagine what 30 days worth of fractals would mean. How many fractal relics they’d need to ask for. Or 30 days of dungeons how many tokens they’d need to ask. Or 30 days of gathering how many t6 materials they’d need to ask for. By spreading it around they make it more managable. 5 days worth of world bosses, 5 days of events, 5 days of dungeons, 5 days of fractals etc…. Daily was a great system but people thought if they could convince arenanet to get ridt of it they’ll be able to get ascended gear quickly since there would be no time gate to stop them. Well this is the result.

It is not about getting laurels or being forced to do afk events. Someone who did not play for a week cannot catch up. Someone who just bought gw2 cannot catch up. If you think dailies idea was genius I lost all hope.

1 “Most events scale for up to 10 players. Group events and and large scale events such as the finale for meta events will scale much higher. For example, The Shatterer scales up to 100 players.” Source: arenanet blog.

try this:
Lupicus or imbued shaman

Ele scepter/focus whatever build you like.
or shatter mesmer.

SOLO…..(don t care if you succeed or not).

That is quite like playing with pugs ranged.

If you say its not WAY more fun than the usual stack party when you don t even have to evade because stuff dies too fast, you are a liar.

Hm, I did solo lupicus with scepter/focus like 8 months ago. And I do melee imbued shaman with my ele without guardians. I don’t recall dying them faster than I had to make my first evade at least that was the case with level 79 shaman.

done…..went good….was hard but went good…we had to “range” stuff btw i had 2 thieves only one of them used smokescreen….i was using a staff ele with no aura share,

It is not impossible but it is harder. I did level 79 fractals without guardians and mesmers and with one guardian and one mesmer and the difference is night and day. I won’t even mention how two guardians make life easier.

Last thing:
if you want to make dungeon FUN…
1) ignore this forum (if a player judge you because “youtube video does otherwyse” its not an elitist …..is just a bad player….try stuff and discuss stuff NEVER judge people).
2) try all your weapons in every single situation, try to find a use for each skill/utility if possible.
3) PUG!PUG!PUG!
4) sometimes go with speedrunners to grind your equip :/ but remember that is only grinding….

  1. People on this forum are actually making those videos.
  2. I actually change my utilities/weapon sets for every encounter.
  3. That is the biggest nonsenser I have ever seen.
  4. Pugging is not grinding then? Your logic amazes me.

To sum it up, it is always nice to argue with you.

Recently, I did temple events few times without a nearby zerg joining in. We were 2-5 people, depending on the mood and the moon phase. And I have to admit, temple bosses are fun, very fun.

But there is one ‘but’. There cannot be more than 10 people.

What if Anet would swap temple bosses with priests from Arah p4 (if anyone is not aware, that path has 5 gods’ priests as bosses). For a zergling most of those bosses are meat bags you can kill by using ranged weapons and going afk or even spam hundred blades. We all know how “exciting” is the Lyssa or Dwayna priestess when zerg participates.

Zergs wouldn’t notice a single difference and even if they had it would be for the good. For instance, Lyssa priestess in arah can apply 25 stacks of confusion so zergs would have to clear it or stop attacking once in a while.

Arah path 4 would become the most epic path in the whole game. Rewards would have to be increased but it would be one of the greatest designed content in gw2.

Giant summons adds every 25% (?) which I didn’t seem to be able burst faster than they did that to me, stopms way more often when there are no people ranging him and the respawning catapults don’t help at all.

why do you take life just at the extremes? When you talk about ascended gear in relation to fractals missing a single piece you implied you’re tied to fractal level 1 and now in relation to LS its either childish or worthy of prestigious awards. There are shades of grey in life. Is the LS the best story I ever heard? no. Is it childish and rubbish Niether. Its a good story which to be fair we cannot even fully judge yet because it hasnt fully played out yet.

Just cause its not the best story in the world doesnt automatically make it rubbish though.

Even the people who have almost exactly opposite views on certain game mechanics say same thing.

It must be cause event lasted an hour so if like you said you just did one event which wouldnt have taken more the 5 minutes and then akitten it means u let the game run for 55 mins without doing anything. Thats what you said. Quoting "That is exactly how I did invasions. I did one portal event and went afk. " Now if you’re using miss direction to purposefully make stuff look worst then it really is for whatever reason I have no way of knowing that but dont blame me. You said you did one portal and went afk that means you played for a couple of minutes and let the game run untouched for about an hour.

Event lasted 45 minutes tops if I recall correctly and most often it was finished at 20-30 minute mark.

It is bad when you are being rewarded even more than someone who puts some effort. Zerging and afking events give you the same rewards as 2-4 manning it. That is a bad design.

How about keeping it until you get the dragonite ore.

Are you telling me you never EVER do a world boss? or play some WvW ? or do some Guild missions? you can even get some by AFKing an invasion now and then!

I have 67 empyreal stars (that’s for 13 ascended weapons), 95 bloodstone dust (that’s for 19 ascended weapons) and 3 dragonite ingot. Recently I started to do temple bosses on empty servers like Vabbi with 1-2 friends but it’s still way too slow. At least it’t not braindead without a zerg and actually faster! Tells a lot about a quality of our dear players.

Blame people who said Laurels was a bad way to get ascended gear because it didnt involve any meaningful tasks and it didnt feel you earned your ascended gear. They only gave us what us the players used for.

Laurels are also bad. Time-gating is never an answer. There should be multitude of options by which you can acquire ascended gear, not multitude of activities you need to do.

Collaborative Development Topic- Living World

in CDI

Posted by: haviz.1340

haviz.1340

My two cents.

Temporary content

  • Living Story should have a permanent impact on the world. If it is a simple new threat every 2 weeks that is being taken care of, players will eventually get bored.
  • New players joining Guildwars 2 community permanently lose an opportunity to experience all the work you have done.

Pace too fast

  • Two weeks to complete a content is way too fast for casual players.
  • Completionists feel the need to participate in said content in that time frame to complete all achievements, especially when it will be either removed or be available next year. This makes living story more like a work instead of enjoyment. Players should participate in that because they like it, not because it will be unavailable or because they will miss their achievement points.
  • Go back to monthly or even bimonthly living story releases with more meaningful content than smashing pinata.

Focusing players in one area

  • While it may looks appealing, especially to show how the game is flourishing it comes with few, very serious design drawbacks.
  • It makes server lagging very noticeable. Everyone hates when they cannot fully control their own characters because of connection bottleneck.
  • A work of designers that create new champions and bosses gets fully wasted. The reason is called a zerg. Because of 5 person aoe limit any champion fighting more than 5 people will have limited mechanics. If said zerg includes more than 30 people a vast portion of them treat those champions as dummies, literally. They spent their time in the game on attacking enemies you spent time on designing without even considering what those enemies can even do. Very good examples are temple bosses.
  • Recently, I started to guest on empty servers like Vabbi with 2-3 friends and we tried to do temple events in Orr with our little group. I have never thought I would say that but you can actually design great and enjoyable fight. Bosses like Statue of Dwayna or Risen Priest of Melandru became one of my favourite, on the level of Giganticus Lupicus or Legendary Imbued Shaman. That clearly shows your more than capable of creating engaging fights but this work goes to waste because zerg completely negates every single mechanic of almost all the bosses. Players that do them on daily basis with zergs most likely would have no idea how to fight world bosses in limited group.
  • I would say that if you would have moved almost all the temples bosses to Seer path in Ruined City of Arah (path 4) and replaced dungeon version of those priests that path would be the single best designed content you have ever created.
  • To put it more simply, focusing players creates zergs, zergs are rewarded equally because of the design of not sharing loot, that in turns leads to very lazy gameplay (you can literally go make a cup of tea while killing world bosses) that completely negates all the hard work you put in creating combat mechanics.

Old content forgotten

  • Living Story premise sounds great, a breathing living world. But it comes with the price, a steep one. Old content like dungeons or fractals is completely forgotten, left to rot with its bugs and faulty reward system.
  • Replacing old paths with new ones like you did with Twilight Arbor is not exactly an answer, especially when the new path is being designed as a story mode path. This new path has also few issues like relying on AI, length and not enough rewards for its length.
  • Last instanced, group based and permanent content update was at the start of 2013 when Ascalonian Catacombs revamp went live. You have enough content, there is no need to forget about it and create new one, there is a need to update it with meaningful additions or revamps.

Just require a mix of both ranged and melee combat.
Example:
Boss like lupicus should use his ranged attack even melee but give priority to ranged targets if there are none then use it against melee players.
Make the ranged attack easier to avoid the farther you are but not too easy.

This force the Group to split 2-3 (just because if the ranged get downed someone have to ress) giving more depth to the fights.

Also change defiant to a maximum of 5 rather than 20 -.-
WIth 5 you can start to use CC to interrupt Attacks.

If you are lazy just use fractal boss approach that are way more balanced than dungeon ones.

Also BALANCE professions for PVE…expecially warriors and guardians (and then ele FGS).
They are the primary responsible for current PVE stacking meta, stacking without that insane DPS+support is not so easy in many situations.

When will you understand that ranged combat is an utter borefest no one except bads want to be viable? There is nothing challenging at kiting the boss and pew-pewing with your lazer-spewing greatsword.

Stacking happens because of limited range of support. Make party split and there will be even less support used in dungeons and we all know how we love support.

Even with 5 defiant stacks (almost) no one uses cc against the bosses except snares to kite them even easier. Whole unshakeable mechanic needs to be changed.

Warriors are balanced, however reflections are not. You can try doing your lovely fractals without reflections with 4-5 warriors, tell me how that goes for you.

The only other solution is to make the content easy enough to do that even mediocre groups can complete it with some effort. (And honestly, if they go down that route, they should just re-allow res-rushing in dungeons. Would be a simple fix; just throw enough bodies at the problem until it stops being a problem.)

Great idea! I could stop trying to finish writing arah guide in my signature.

How is the story childish? Going mad after seeing the secrets of the universe doesnt sound like a childish storyline. Assassination as a means of getting political power isnt childish either. Taking advantage of people in need to further your agenda, Displacing people by burning their homes down, kidnapping royalty, corrupting other people’s work. None of them are childish and all have been part of the LS.

You’re right, story deserves screenplay oscar.

can you explain to me why you did that? You spend 5 mins playing and at least 55 mins afk for what? 2000 karma and 50s ? Playing anything else you enjoy would have been more profitable and you’d actually have fun doing it so why did you choose to do this?

Because I could have got free money and did something productive at the same time. Plus, that never was 55 minutes afk, we’re definitely playing different games.

Apparently I had no right to ask 3 people to leave my arah p2 instance after soloing and trying to sell. They didnt read the post and joined (pretty sure they were 3 friends aswell so im not sure why they didnt start their own group lol). When i asked them to leave, they said “no, why dont you leave?”. I was kind of lost for words at that moment.

You should ask me for a help. I love kicking people.

Long live kicking bads!

A staff ele can out-dps HB warriors by simply spamming two buttons, and can do so by staying at range while providing infinite fire fields.

It’s one of the best pve builds in this game since the buffs to blasting staff and persisting flames in the last patch.

Were there unicorns as well?

So whoever steps in first owns the party? That’s a whole new level of entitlement.

No, that’s common sense.
