The flaw with that point is that you’re just putting in place an arbitrary ‘timer’, which doesn’t have any particular importance. The consensus was that exploits are fine, if you are happy to show them on video to people then you can do what you want (short of hacking). Essentially, its the stance that the majority of games take for speed runs.
btw; we also played in some other dungeons: http://youtu.be/DFSs5jVthTA
I don’t recall any consensus. My point was that while balance changes should not influence validity, exploit fixes (or even hotfixes) do. It’s the same thing with the bottles, a curiosity, nothing else. And if by majority of games you mean speedruns like Fallout, those games are not being fixed.
Plus, poor euros had no chance to even try it and now I’m jealous.
Remember my ‘what makes a record legit?’ thread? If you’re happy to show a video of it, it’s fair game. So sure
And one very good point of that was something like “if anet doesn’t fix it in a month it’s valid”.
It’s valid, but its a pointless record
What about sentinel rifle kill?
I fo sure laughed when I watched this, same as the mossman video
Normal dungeon bosses were fast but at 48, skritts killed mossman faster. And every class could use skritts.
Perhaps the only downside would be not being able to use proper sigils. Does it share an undead classification? If not, Force becomes the only damage bonus gear, which hurts builds that stack multipliers (and thus rely on Force/Night+Slaying).
The Ooze is considered undead but once again, using wrong sigils does not hurt builds stack multipliers at all.
Just curious does this count as the record kill? Like, technically your just using a skill, that does redonk damage much like rT used Eles in their Lupi slaying…
Jumping puzzle makes it non valid.
Lol. Those were for lilith.
Get out of here haviz, you should be punished like broadicea ;-)
But I’m behaving.
You obviously haven’t played in sPvP or WvW using Rush…or if you have, you’re fighting complete scrubs.
Just change direction before the warrior reaches you. Rush misses. You save a dodge.
You’re complaining about RtL because of lag? Yeah, lag happens to fk with everything, its not a skill fact.
I hope you realize RtL was used mostly as an escape tool, not a gap closer. Nerf hit its disengage ability, not gap closing.
You’re still welcome in my super sweet zerk only speed run gropus, because apparently I require people to not suck.
=)
Thank your for those kind words.
Unfortunately, from the design view, ele is in bad spot.
I hope you step on a lego.
Me too because that would mean I have it.
Where’s your signature?
Same with other weapons, check fire grab for instance.
I hope they nerf staff damage to oblivion, make it truly support weapon and make close range weapon more deadly.
RTL ignores chill/cripple but don’t forget it ignores swiftness as well.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empowered
It says here that it is supposed to be 2%. So fingers crossed that it is a bug. =p
Anet is known to forget to mention some nerfs/buffs. Empowered was nerfed together in the same patch with Power of the Virtuous and Bountiful Power, both of which are grandmaster minor traits for boon centric professions.
Edit: my bad, Power of the Virtuos was always at 1% while Bountiful Power was nerfed together with Empowered.

You know what warriors get for 15 point traits? a 50% reduction in weapon swap recharge time.
With 30 points in arcana the best we get is a ( ( 16 – 10 ) / 16 ) = 37.5% reduction in our weapon swap’s recharge time
Ha .. haha .. haha … ha.
But ele has more skills. /s
I run full zerker gear + trinkets on my staff ele. I run dungeons. A lot. I am almost always in melee range of the bosses. How do I survive? I DODGE. I use fire 4 to EVADE and air 3 to INTERRUPT. I use FIELDS and FINISHERS when appropriate.
Play smarter and you can survive as a staff blastin’ glass cannon.
Dungeons are not exactly difficult.
And 20 skills in gs at once.
Sure, increase weapon swap cd by 60%, increase cds of most of the skills by 100% and decrease damage by 50%. This is massive damage for ele.
icwutdidthar
Anyway guys, yes, you can’t balance 2 skill in the same way, even if they are about similiar, when they work in 2 different sets.
I mean one is a skill available to a 5 skill set weapon. The other is a skill available to a 20skills set weapons combo.
You can take another 5 skills set weapon(s) that has 2x lower cooldowns and deal more damage.
If empowered is fixed next patch (gives 2% per boon intead of the current 1%), i might still be using 30 0 0 10 30. That build is so much flexible than 30 25 0 0 15 or 30 10 0 0 30, or any other build out there. I am a PvX, so i am too lazy to reset traits whenever i go PvE or WvW. =)
It was fixed to 1%.
Cookie, that was confidential. >.<
That build is okay for stacking blast finishers but the damage is only average. You might as well just run something like S/F with LH if you want to use blast finishers that badly.
One dimensional thinking.
Just wondering, what do you actually want from the Elementalist?
Definitely not this:
No way I’m going to play a build which is about spamming one skill.
As mechanics I mean shatters, stealth, adrenaline, virtues, death shroud. In other words, profession specific mechanics. Ele has 4 weapon swaps but it pays with increased cooldown of swap alone (16s) and much longer cooldowns on not only weapon skills but also utility while being typically worse versions of similar skills of other professions. The reason for that is that hybrid builds need to be punished for being a hybrid but as of this moment this game does not support or promote hybrid playstyle making ele mostly redundant which can be observed in pvp. In pve ele is made into full glass cannon that cannot support itself and is hardly a hybrid.
To add last note, during 2011 demo in korea, ele had attunement cooldown at about 5s but was deemed too strong at that point.
Stuff which Warrior lacks:
- pets to summon
- weapons to summon which can actually be used to attack/do stuff
- anti-projectile (AoE)
- teleport
- more weapon skills
- true invulnerabilityJust wondering, what do you actually want from the Elementalist?
Those are different skills, not mechanics. And If I’d want to list what ele lacks:
- condition immunity
- banners
- decent cooldowns (compare Charge to Windborne Speed, Shockwave to Zealot’s Embrace and best one Fire Grab to Eviscerate)
- massive damage
- survivability
- mobility
- risk to reward ratio
This list is not for pve only.
I tried to be reasonable. Please, continue to play how you want while wasting your time on your ‘support’ that’s completely useless while dealing hilarious amount of damage.
I’ll try one more time. Current pve content does not promote soft cc ele staff is capable of. Probably more than 75% of staff skills are completely useless excluding one of two uses in pve. Until that changes there is absolutely no reason to be an unique snowflake to feel that you can play decently. You can play how you want, no one will forbid you but you should be aware it’s not optimal at all.
Old lupi solo with ‘squishy’ build from February.
Plus, it doesn’t matter how squishy you are, you will be one shotted by pretty much everything there.
So basically, no, you can’t prove it, thanks
You know, I wasn’t boasting here that I can play the most difficult content ingame with the most squishiest build ingame, but you did…
Also, I asked for proof first.
And instead of proving, you are just blabbing all over the place and making excuses (that will come soon I guess)
Do you want a video of fotm 79? Lupi solo perhaps? I’ll do it once I get pc that can handle more than one minute of recording. Until then you can watch lupi killed in 13s.
And I don’t play the most squishiest build, Zelyhn does.
To put it differently, I’d like to see how having your only blast finishers in earth attunement works with elemental that randomly casts ice field. Relying on ai is not my cup of tea.
No challenge at all, I would just like to see it, that’s all. If you can’t prove it, it never happened, simple
It works both way.
You keep calling points in arcane wasted, but 10% boon duration effectively means that for each might stack you get, you also get +3.5 Power and Condition damage. Given that a good ele build has at least 10, you’re getting 35 Power and Condition damage from Arcana alone. Add the Fury trait to that and the dps you get from 10 points Arcane matches that of 10 points Fire.
Imagine I can do same thing with persisting flames without butchering my dps.
Except that I’m not sarcastic here.
I’d really like to see how that works in practice.
Those emoticons show joy, just look at him.
Well, you can prove it, go ahead
Upload a video
An ultimate forum warrior challenge. You can check it yourself, just don’t die because of awesomeness you will feel while running it.
You mean that unplayable and totally spreadsheeted build which DPS heavily depends on having 25might stacks and perma-fury, while enemies have 25 vulnerability and thousand more conditions met all the time?
That one when if the enemy just glance at you, you’re dead? Well, GL with thatUnder those conditions, I would dish out much more even with my build, and I could even survive
10 points wasted in arcane confirms that. And I’m pretty sure I can do okay with no vitality in the hardest content this game offers.
Even then, you have 8k, other staff build has about 16k.
Currently I’m running 30/20/0/0/20, most of the time with staff, and that’s nowhere near the one-button build you’re talking about, I still support my teammates with might stacks and fury, provide water fields if needed, help with or kite mobs myself etc. while still having a decent damage output and having access to blasting staff or perma-vigor if I decide to use scepter or daggers.
Yeah, the build is squishy as hell, but at least it’s fun to play, not like a warrior boredom.
Assumption that you stay in the back is correct?
There is absolutely no reason to drop berserker in pve, especially for cavalier.
I haven’t lost anything m8, and I refuse to consider some LH focused “build” a proper way to play the class.
However, I agree with you on the case that Ele needs to be fixed, that’s true
I didn’t mean LH build but staff build. But I use neither of them, prefering 30/30/0/0/10 which hardly is easy but will not produce similar results to warrior or guardian.
I am so frustrated today because I learned that attunement swap cooldown is two second long, not one like I though. This reduces our damage on FA D/F enormously. I am bloody tired of trying superhard to perform well with my beloved class and not being able to achieve enough despite my great efforts. If tomorrow’s patch doesn’t bring us one billion buffs they are in for one hell of a rant.
You’ll get better support.
It’s DPS & utility > everything. And 10.8k is enough for everything in pve.
Well, why don’t you just delete the Elementalist and roll a Warrior then? If you think that super-simple means better…
I like challenge and complex class-mechanics, I’m a fan of real RPG games, not these modern simplified games which deny everything what RPG means. If I cannot have a real RPG, I want at least a class that is not about facerolling everything, smashing one button and getting good results by that.
Also, how can I explain the beauty of the Elementalists mechanic if you can’t see any difference in that, compared to the easiest class in the game?
So you just lost your arguments and turned to rhetorics? On the sidenote, ele can smash one button and get even better results than doing this on warrior. The ‘beauty’ of ele is that you work harder to get worse results and that needs to be fixed.

But don’t tell him I recommend his builds or I’ll never hear the end of it
I already sent him PM.
Hmm, you really don’t see a difference between a simple weapon swap and attunement switching?
(your clue is written in bold FYI)
Except having 2 more options which you can swap to and no skill canceling, no. More options does not mean more mechanics.
I doubt most pve players even know hiding energy exists or even bothered having an energy set on hand. It’s easier to fail running a staff 100% of the time and blame faulty mechanics because onoez where did my energy go, mobs must be OP, terrible design! I better keep spamming protective spirit
GW1 was just too hard for the layman that’s why it wasn’t as popular and why GW2 is total faceroll. Gamers these days… it’s not even a matter of being casual or not, everything has to be so accessible and easy a new born could do it.
Heh, I guess I expect too much from gamers.
I have a bad news for you, if you really believe that, you’re playing your Elementalist wrong. Sorry.
Please explain then, what unique mechanic has elementalist except 2 more weapon swamps on longer cooldowns that warrior does not have?
There are no pets, clones, phantams, minions, death shroud, aegis, adrenaline and reflections are bad at best. Only reason why ele sucks is because it’s supposed to be jack-of-all-trades, problem is, hybrids never work. They are either too strong or too weak.
No, of course not ! Why would you think that way?
Eles have the most op skills in the game ,such as fiery greatsword, ice bow, and crazy healing ability. And these skills benefit EVERYONE in your party.t
Fgs is going to get fixed and ‘crazy’ healing ability is not crazy and is completely useless in pve.
