Cuz I’ve been there since noon today?
Also that Sunshine guy just supported the same conclusion in a fairly congenial manner.
It does make some tactical sense also … settling for 2nd place with the expected Lost Island event or w/e it that’s coming later this week b/c it will probably siphon off too many players to make a long term run at 1st place feasible…
You only posted numbers that have no context. I posted an image that is nothing BUT context. That said, if this can go back to being a 3-way fight, it will be the most fun of all of the current battles in any tier and not just b/c it was so close for a good while there.
And on that topic:
Thanks to TC [MF] Guild who provided us 7 big zerg rush…
I didn’t wanna say anything, but yeah these umm …Mallis Formus(sp?)… guys got the entire server’s attention. Huge guild btw, obviously pro at target calling or using TS. Their spiking was just this side of perfect and they didn’t get baited easily … but what the heck happened there with Spirit camp?
(edited by ilr.9675)
Yak and TC have left eachother alone COMPLETELY to doubleteam CD in our borderlands. Almost ALL of the action has been in CD borderland ALL weekend. Get out of EB for 5 minutes and look at what is really going on.
this man speaks the truth
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/74752-yaks-bend-vs-crystal-desert-vs-tarnished-coast/page__gopid__2073404#entry2073404
I spend a couple hours, maybe once every other week… I’d LOVE to spend more b/c I like to PvP… but Anet’s “dynamic” for the entire thing is completely hypocritical or backwards from PvE and this is important b/c it’s technically a version of PvE where we ourselves get to be the Zerging DE mobs. It’s also on the PvE side of all skill-splits (skills separated into PvE and PvP versions b/c they’re OP in real PvP). ….So there’s your big admission right there that it’s not even real PvP. It’s also crawling with more “Creeps” than a lulzy custom WC3 map.
That above, isn’t my issue though, it’s my entire argument infact… that the way they actually promote being outmanned or outzerged as “tactics”, is why most people, myself included of course, don’t WvW on a regular basis. It has a horribly negative reputation infact with most MMORPG’ers and a lot of FPS’ers I know because of this. They just refuse to do it. What they LIKE, is the way things often “scale” in PvE. They even put up with the Explorable Dungeons in this game. Hell I do them everyday just b/c they’re harder than most evenly-matched WvW fights I’m in.
So yeah… there’s the answer… Your opponent doesn’t “Scale” in WvW if you outnumber them and have them backed into a corner. They don’t become more dangerous or enraged, they actually become significantly weaker and their numbers dwindle the longer they’re being pushed back. That’s not conducive to Participation. Imagine how boring PvE would be even for PvE’ers, if the more often you killed mobs, the fewer and fewer would respawn in the area. …or bosses just got incrementally weaker everytime they were defeated. Anet needs to fix this somehow and make severely outmanned players present a challenge somehow. If they fix it, they also fix WvW*vE* for those outmanned players and everyone will be free to return to less populated servers instead of all crowding into the top 3 tiers just to find some competition.
The ones that put up a fight, absolutely. That can’t be easy considering how squishy they can be.
The ones that are constantly leading groups of players on a snipe hunt b/c they are spec’d for almost perma invis (the Culling code isn’t helping there) & can’t be Immobilized (for some reason?) … can just disappear for good for all I care.
dodge roll every other attack. He’s easy as hell to melee in that path (every path, really…).
Ahem:
To start with, just go melee range during most fights with Alpha and ignore all his AoEs…
did you miss it?
…and ignore all his AoEs…
…you’re correcting the wrong person
And yes, I’ve “Mace & Shield” tanked him in Melee on Tele & Front. (I wouldn’t recommend it to novices)
(edited by ilr.9675)
#1, probably not going to reach the right Dept since you didn’t post this in Black Lion forum
#2, 26silver per complete BUYS not just a rare, but also part of the BL Salvage you’ll need to get the Ecto out of it (or 2 rares if you craft them yourself)
PS:
#3: Those aren’t “End Game Recipes”. They’re “Skins”, IE: super Farmy Just-for-Show Ego trophies. Rares are end-game recipes because we can complete every encounter in this game (except Simin) wearing only those Rares. (and they require Zero ectos)
(edited by ilr.9675)
To start with, just go melee range during most fights with Alpha and ignore all his AoEs…
Uninformed much?
That only works on the Sub. He eats every group alive on Tele unless they’re bugging him up the steps first. (and that’s another thing… sick and tired of seeing puggers cheating on boss fights b/c they all agree the boss cheated first)
2.5 months since release and the gw2 competitive scene is smaller than gw1’s competitive scene 2.5 months after it was released. The difference between then and now? James Phinney left Anet…..
What?
…. WUTT???
James Phinney has always only embodied one thing: Environment. …He’s basically a Writer. He didn’t design the “systems”. He has almost nothing to do with PvP. Since waaaaay back in Blizzard and Interplay’s hey days, he put together the Setting. He defined the character of the aesthetic and that’s where it ended. That’s incredibly important of course too, but it has almost nothing to do with this topic. Which is: Compulsive/Addictive PvP gameplay or why there’s such a lack of it *(or lack of participants this early on).
I’m not weighing in any further than that… just had to point out that you apparently have your Developers confused or something.
The problem is when I’m fighting the afk-bosses in CM I’m thinking “boy, this guy doesn’t do anything and has way too much health. I’m not having fun.” When I’m running through the 8-silver pack in CM I’m thinking “this pack has to be skipped or we all die. There’s no way that’s intended, and it’s sure not fun.” As I’m dancing back and forth across the water against the billion-health, one-attack Frost, I’m thinking “I have to repeat this for ten minutes without dying once, and there’s only one mechanic. This is not fun.”
Gotta quote this b/c it nails it … now that I’ve gotten all the pieces of gear I wanted, I’m finding it very difficult to get excited about a Dungeon anymore (unless it’s Arah which is always bugged lately or not possible to get into). They’re just not polished and EXCITING or fast-paced like UW/FoW/Deep/DoA
Y’know what they’re like?? They’re more like Sepulchre of Draggimar and every single boss fight and even some Trash mob fights are exactly like that except you can’t even interrupt the stupid Remnant. Dodging is fun in PvP, don’t get me wrong. But in PvE? It feels like a gimmick that was carried too far to the point that they thought they had to make every fight last sooooo long that you only die because you start getting sleepy or don’t have stability.
NO because if there’s no icon telling you where the action is everyone is on the same boat and need to coordinate to go and attack or defend.
You must be in an organized guild… one that has scouts everywhere on TS.
That or you have an agenda that doesn’t make any sense to begin with. Please elaborate on how this could possibly make the game more accessible to people without the above?
It definitely looks like TC is being gunned for in this:
http://home.comcast.net/~ill_er/GW/dubscores_4.jpg
It wasn’t that clear on the ground though (partly b/c Yaks is trolling or derping pretty hard … it’s really hard to tell which)
adding you to my friends list incase my regular team has opening… you may want to add some people yourself though if you expect to get the most out of this. (ppl like Madcow, Ralliart, Petenuts, etc)
It’ll get you through a dungeon, but it takes longer, costs more, and is much less fun than playing it properly.
Well… like most things that are missing Tutorials or gradual skill-curving content, the design of the encounters are indeed still poorly designed. I wouldn’t go so far as to say trash, but they have no “Crescendo” to their mechanics that teaches the player how to deal with them by doing it…
I can count on 1 hand the number of instances where your party gets a preview of how a specific mob’s mechanics are supposed to work (including the little hidden parts of it that aren’t so evident, or are just plain buggy … like scavenger lunges for example) …and then the fight itself get tougher after that. GW1 did a pretty good job at this. Most of GW2 dungeons however are trial and error (read: CorpseRolling from WP) for MOST people followed by Youtubing & guide reading for anyone else who isn’t a masochist. Sorry but that is not good inviting gameplay design
…how to beat her shockingly easily in her current badly designed way.
This is all I needed to read to decide I’m never even attempting this run until Anet rebalances this fight. I’ve heard WAY too much bad-press about this Simin NPC to even be curious anymore and I don’t need to beat things “The hard way” to know I’m in that top 10% of GuildWars PvE’ers since my last 3 years of GW1 already gave me all the validation I’ll ever need on that tangent. The quality and consistency of the game itself is my biggest Goal and it should always atleast appear to be Arenanet’s biggest Goal too.

Some of us here have been forming cross-server groups (and a guild) specifically for getting around this sort of issue. … I think I’ve teamed already infact with a few people from ShiverP & BG. I’m on CD myself and a majority of the time, our gates remain defended… (and I’ve actually delayed entering an EXP just to help keep them that way).
try these threads if you’re open to cross-server’ing it:

Good thread. OP wins one “No-Duh, Anet” award… what’s next, extra nukes spamming out at us if we also have Minipets out? This definitely favors some classes over others and needs to be fixed immediately before Rewards are.
One Dev (can’t remember where) also already addressed a side-issue similar to this with Lupi and Necro’s not having any control over additional Minions spawning b/c of a Trait or something. … People can try to argue that you shouldn’t be able to use the same build in every single fight, but that’s not what this is about. This is about the Scripters using the wrong darn Variable (entity counts instead of players adjacent quantity) to calculate Attack-scaling. No one who understands programming should be condoning this kind of discriminatory corner-cutting
(edited by ilr.9675)
I get that taking 50k in just a second is horrible, but, as I already said, this also means that you made a mistake. And since the AoE spam is Lupi’s only real skill check in p2 I don’t think that it’s too much – the charge doesn’t really count cause it’s very easy to avoid unless you waste your dodges.
You don’t know when to concede on this one do you? Last night I definitely got hit by 3 of the more random non-AOE bolts myself b/c I intercepted one or 2 intended for a very close by teammate (or a very low flying AoE one where the circle was way behind us). Just chock it up to randomness please and stop telling people they don’t know what they’re doing. They clealry do. And when everything goes as planned or expected, yes this is a very easy fight. Not arguing that point. But you can’t keep going to such reaching lengths to defend every bit of this encounter, it’s costing you credibility.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Any system that doesn’t also take Participation Population into sampling VS. these Results, … just seems half baked to me. Maybe if there was a REAL odd-evening mechanic behind “Outmanned” this wouldn’t be the case but since there isn’t, Rank just looks arbitrary to me and I don’t feel any “Server Pride” when we blow another server out of the water
No it’s definitely tedious having to see his ugly mug 3 times in all 3 paths.
Soon as I got the 1 lousy pair of boots I wanted from this dungeon, I never came back and have moved on to other ones that are supposedly harder … but mainly they also sort of resemble fun. Don’t get me wrong, CoE has a few fun/creative encounters in it too, but they’re too few and far between to tilt the scale on the tedium of spending nearly all of your time fighting Subject Alpha
(edited by ilr.9675)
read most the replies, Ilr was my post unreadable? no, perfectly readable, and at 3 am i dont fancy searching through a load of forums to find a thread that might not actually exist, or be in page 49 where no 1 will ever read as its old new’s. why the need to watch load of video’s when a 2 min explination of tactics/phases is fine, done this boss a couple times before, taken a few attempts each time, but the dmg from his AoE’s is rediculouse, 1 shot an im downed an hit by second 1 shortly after an dead, main thing that cheesed me off was the resetting, someone said that they should set it so he resets if all members of group leave the area that he’s in, thats spot on
Well actually yes, it is a bit more difficult to parse what you’re saying here or specifically what’s giving you the biggest hurdle. I’m betting it’s a combination of things though, especially the non-AoE bolts that sort of home in on you (and everyone else) and makes you think the AoE just aren’t telling you how large their circumference is… no those indicators are definitely accurate and they should only 1-shot you if you’re being hit by the Non-AoE bolt at the same time. (without realizing it). …but again, it’s not clear and you’re not detailing what caused the resets either.
Would you want to do it twice? It takes forever and isn’t really challenging either.
Paths 2 & 4 seem a lot more exciting by comparison.
Y’know what would help more? a huge TS or Mumble server… So you could check instantly if they were still looking, without having to /friend or PM them in game
Hmmm, not sure how you would pull that off. Not everyone has those installed, and everyone trying to talk at once would get pretty crazy.
can’t tell if you’re being facetious or not … Mumble/TS has channels that divide clients up by categories. In this case, it would be which dungeons they were specifically looking for or are already in. (though there could be a general “looking for ANY” lobby too) …but just like anything else, Official LFG tools included > > It’s all going to depend on how well promoted it is. Sometimes the playerbase in some games is so unbelievably stupid that they can’t even use Developer-provided tools right.
-Remove the hotjoin 8v8 altogether.
-Make free tournaments function the way Random Arena functioned in GW1. -(No premades)
RA was a cesspool where, as soon as the countdown started , the whole match was decided as soon as it was evident your team didn’t have enough Monks/Assassins. And most of that was due to the team sizes being so small. Even costume brawl had this same dynamic and it was the most balanced 4-man ever.
You can’t balance those matches with Even Quantity-vs-Quantity. You have to specifically measure every individual player’s strengths and weaknesses and then pit them against eachother based on that. Even if it means stacking up 9 amatuers against a 5 man premade

I found Illyria very helpful when soloing the Mage Crusher (which opens up the WP for everyone else in the party).
You guys should just be Grateful they didn’t end up being a bunch of Master Togos
.
But yes for the sake of BUGS they definitely need a “What’s our Status (are we stuck?)” Dialogue that forces a Variable reset and a series of simple boolean checks (is X & Y Boss Dead?) to make sure they opened the doors and objectives they were supposed to open.

Note:
J.King found the first thread, so no RoRo… this isn’t the first time it’s been looked into
.
PS: Detha’s Path in AC also has a new Bug during the Ascalon Ghosts (their spawning or stat scaling is bugged)
This is what happens when the devs blow all their monies on KITTEN and PUPPIES.
Washington state hasn’t legalized either of those … but a quick news search on ballot initiatives would have given you more accurate & topical legal content to substitute that might not have risked an Infraction
(edited by ilr.9675)
…Normally try to help people when they bring this topic up… but the original poster didn’t:
1> Use search first to find all the other threads dedicated to it.
2> didn’t even Scroll back a page or 2 and see any threads about teams/tactics for it
3> Proper grammar? Yeah it helps when you’re trying to convince other people.
4> didn’t ask for help
5> thinks a piece of armor is more important than learning exactly what happens in this encounter.
That’s a Shame
(edited by ilr.9675)
Only thing you can do in this situation is make your whole team stand way way back and leash-kill them 1 by 1.
I avoided PvP like the plague in GW1 even though I was an avid FPS’er 15 years now where the only online activity available (before Borderlands & L4D which honestly I still haven’t played) … was in your Face PvP. About the only GW PvP I think I spent anywhere close to 100 hours in was Fort Aspenwood which was about as far as you could get from structured. I tried Codex and I honestly tried to love it too but… no ladder = no quality control.
First week of launch, my friends wanted to sPvP so I came with them for a Tourney. First match was a completely lopsided Steamroll for us. Second match was against KOSS … no explanation needed on how that one went…
So yeah… It was exactly what I expected from all of my GW1 experiences. I haven’t sPvP’d since and I’m not going to either until they stop throwing casual players to the wolves. 7 straight years of this pattern is no way to pad and retain lots of new PvP’ers.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Glad I bought all my mats when they were still cheap. Thanks for the (albeit kind of predictable) but good news!
Exquisite face structure, Pro Tier stuff!
Buggy/Poorly designed. It’s just that simple
… but B/c Anet already has a ton of other Mechanic/Mesh issues to sort out first (like Burrower mounds, WvW Vis, Scaling, constantly breaking Event Scripts, Cone damage through solid Walls, Network stability, etc), this issue will just retain the appearance of “Working as intended” and “Lrn 2 Play” as far as most posters are aware … and for atleast another month or more.
The armor is among the best looking in the game…. unless you’re Soldier-Class …then it’s clunky & ugly and needing alternative models suggested (which I’m working on right now)
All dungeons are dead but CoF and AC. These two are alive because they’re by far the easiest so when some1 wants to waste time (saying waste because you’re not rewarded for anything at all in a dungeon and can’t even make money) they do it in the easiest ones.
Detha’s path was extremely difficult (the Ascalonion ghosts part) last time I ran it b/c of a Scaling/Spawning bug. I doubt it’s been fixed yet.
the corridor does make it pretty tricky to circle strafe though.
Never ever fight him in the corridor in Path1… dodge/refect the net-turrets (or snipe them from long range) and just keep running out the side door. If you want to fight him, fight him outside there in front of the Toolshed.
Been dodging it everyday, not sure if you’re timing your dodge right but it is “evade-able”. The only problem with them is that their knockdown radius is incredibly larger than their sprite/pixel.
Which again… underlines the fact that it can’t simply be “dodged”, read: EVADED. The definition of a Dodge is to evade an Attack. Your definition in this case is to LEAVE THE EXACT AREA OF THE ATTACK fast enough that the lag-monster can’t reach you. …which is more like a “Blink” if we have to use lol-terms.
Also: Sprite-Pixel is for Particle Effects, not Model Animations (and very poorly Kinimatized ones at that!). If you’re claiming to have programming experience here then you should probably brush on these terms a little better.
(edited by ilr.9675)
no one asked for WoW. Nothing about it is elitist. Worried about not being invited to a group? There has already been group-stacking where players specifically look for Warriors and Guardians and refuse to use other classes.
The players afraid of gear inspection clearly have confidence issues.
+1 to this.
…1 Arah group for example formed and recruited specifically from these very Forums, had an unprepared Ele with 12k HP whom unbeknownst to himself, was going to guarantee that we couldn’t beat Lupi. We didn’t tell him to leave either. We got to Lupi… he died constantly, and eventually it sank in and he excused himself from the group at which point we replaced him with a more prepared player and beat it without a single hitch. We weren’t being elitists. Though maybe we should have b/c that little episode added 45 minutes onto an already very long Path1 …but it’s not like we even had the tools in the first place to see what his career dungeon experience was. Not even he himself had those. We could have demanded that he pinged his gear before we started …but again… that doesn’t actually tell us anything about his total stats, his build, or his Experience in general. All it would tell us is how deep his pockets are.
…hence the Photoshop image I posted earlier which focuses much more on career achievement dedicated to a variety of paths & stats instead of just gear itself.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Their jump is VERY telegraphed and easy to dodge.
Actually it can’t be dodged. They’ll knock you down mid-air. You can only try to dodge/run backwards out of its (350m?) range. And if you put up a ward or bubble between you or Immob them right before they do it… the activation still takes place and their “Attack” just gets magically summoned wherever you’re standing if you’re still in range and will kill you instantly if you can’t move any further back. It’s pretty hilarious.
I found this sort of thing extremely obnoxious in DCOU. (not b/c I fell behind in them, but b/c it made me realize a little too often how much I was carrying the PuGs I joined)
In this game you have to use your imagination a lot more if you want to compare your performance directly to another teammate’s. I think that’s the way it should stay.
yeah i will never understand this stupidity.
I would completely understand it… if the player-created Results of nearly all Events, lasted more than half an hour when there’s only NPC defenders guarding. Say the the smaller ones lasted 3 hours (Dragon Generals excluded b/c we all know they should actually be on a Chain that can be intentionally reset by players every hour if they bring together some Items power or completed multiplayer JP’s, or whatever)
…but the really major “group” events like Temples & Dungeon entrances….
…Well those just need much stronger NPC defenders right now and a more in-depth and visible territory control mechanic. IE: It should work like a 12 hour water-clock where the Enemy forces gradually start building up encampments outside the objective and the only way for them to overrun your NPC defenders is for them to get away with 12 straight hours of Troop build-up in those enemy camps. Sorta like WvWvW. The current system may actually be incentivizing completely legit players to multibox certain defense points just to do what the NPC’s should be doing on their own right now.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Nice try to change the subject but that’s not Manipulation, that’s Monopolizing.
All too often people write “there is market manipulation” and when asked to show why they think so they come back with, “it’s obvious!!” – well, no, it really isn’t.
Prove there isn’t… You can’t. Why? Because there’s no transparency in the Bids and flips. There’s no traceable history. It’s all double blind flash-exchanges with no Data behind them… not even so much as a quantity of “Sellers” in each column of prices. And even less information about how many items were re-listed and when. …which is the perfect “dark room” for rigging prices and exploiting volatility that masks real price indexes to everyone but the most connected of users. Or worse, only those who fully understand all the tricks & gimmicks that allowed the manipulation in the first place.
Good idea but again there are no GM’s, i made a topic about this towards ANET, i got no answer as usual, this game badly needs gm’s, they could deal with this crap, they could also reset broken events Ect. Ect.
This game is rolling in money and has plenty of GM’s.
Gem prices would be way over 2g by now (instead of 50s) if it wasn’t. Don’t believe it? Here’s a game that Wasn’t rolling in money:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxvmb8HbA4s
So If that’s not a GM then what was it?
(edited by ilr.9675)
No don’t black list it… just make the Server auto-search for it and immediately Alert a GM anytime it’s chatted so they can be insta-banned instead. Otherwise they’ll just get a Text-Generator script or keep adding a ton more subdomains to circumvent the filters faster than Anet can patch them in
@OP
Thieves are considered the 3rd most RELIABLE Dungeon class after Guardians & Warriors because they have gimmicks that make dungeons faster/easier. Forget what you’d heard because it is all a Stereotype that bad players (who thought they were making pure-damage Ninjas) helped create. …as are the “Nerfs” they’ll be getting.
On the Other Hand
If you don’t WANT to be bound to a very helpful but limited support build.
And you actually WANT to be a big Damage Ninja …then don’t roll Thief …roll Warrior
(edited by ilr.9675)
Quickest fix right now: Increase the Cap on the number of Guilds you can join and remove the arbitrary limitation of only being able to “hear” chat in the guild you’re representing. We don’t have Guild HALLS … we don’t have Guild VERSUS GUILD … so at this point they might as just be a glorified stand-in for custom Chat-Channels and be operated that way. …That’s how a lot of them are in lots of other MMO’s out there.
Some of harder to find dungeons are already seeing Guilds form specifically around them.
CM dead?? It’s all I ever see advertised on CryDesert… not making this up, go into LA there and you’ll see more teams for it than CoF.
Most of my guildies who play guardian were tanks in WoW, and I think they’re mostly just frustrated that it’s not a traditional gain-the-aggo-and-hold-it tank.
Hehheh … yeah we tend to be creatures of comfort. In my case I lucked out here b/c in GW1 I was that guy … the one who mained Monk but only spec’d the Smiting/Protection skills that didn’t help the team nearly as much as HB/WoH facerolling would have. Got me kicked out of a lot of pugs too and created unnecessary drama in guilds I tried to play with. …..fun times…. Fortunately it’s the meta here which probably isn’t fair to everyone else. I’m too busy having fun to feel guilty tho.
(edited by ilr.9675)
oh come on this guy just dribbles u around with each shot
u got a milisecond to dodge his next shot and he just keeps targetting u till ur dead
u never get a chance to react or res
That’s pretty much the entire point of the fight though and the entire “Gimmick” that the rest of your team is supposed to “overcome”. If they time their Immobilizers and Knockdowns just right (instead of SPAMMING THEM ON RECHARGE like most facerollers tend to do), they will actually stop him dead in his tracks right after his first buck shot knocks YOU back. He’s a complete joke otherwise if your whole team can rotate Stability Boons on eachother. …oh and there’s also…
Saffron Bread <— reduces incoming damage while knocked down.
.
All he really needs, which is what most Dungeon mobs need (atleast on path1 but not on the butler path which is already too quick) is less Hitpoints so that he’s not just another boring timesink.
Heehee, I love a good paradox.
Well maybe not the paradox itself but the act of putting it in perspective… definitely.
..also those phone commercials showing a bunch of applefreaks waiting in a huge line like they were trying to get into a once in a lifetime concert, that will just happen again in another 6 months when 1 more marketable feature gets added to the next one. Yeah it’s hyperbole but these first-world problems are begging for it. (meanwhile “Art” predates civilization itself … it’s actually one of our baser instincts/compulsions)
.
As with most things that are currently being neglected in real life … the issue lies in enforcement and societal incentives. And most suggestions that people come up with here will only inconvenience normal players while the cheaters laugh and instantly find loopholes around it. Good luck anyway! If Anet or CCP can’t fix it then no one can.
