Transformations:

^spoken like someone who’s never seen what a D-series Golem can really do…

Question: Do I use Norn elites?
Answer: No

Also, there are other problems than duration, such as loosing your heal and utilities. On Ranger I loose my pet…

I’d be fine with all those downsides. What grinds my gears about it and forces me to use my profession Elites instead in like 90% of the content, is the fact that I’ll spend most of my time in Wereform on my BACK. why do piddly little rock elementals get Stability yet when I’m a Were’d out 16ft tall beast-of-nightmares, I get flopped around like a hacky sack??? I don’t get that time back either. I get to just lay there staring at my transformation time slipping away, wondering why the Devs won’t just change ONE LITTLE NUMBER in their spreadsheet under “Defiant” from a 0 to a 1. We’re not expecting 3 stacks like Champions get…

But Norn’s been crying about transformations since release and devs don’t care…

okay well that’s just depressing then… didn’t know how long it’s been mentioned here, not a regular reader or the species forums

(And no this isn’t “bumping” a dead thread you darn automated forum-bots, it’s still on the FRONT PAGE)

I heard what I thought were horror stories in LA, of people having to open 3000 of the normal coffers (that kind of crap drove me insane when I had to open just 1000 TOT bags back in Gw1’s halloween..). But wow this one just blows my mind.

Personal Story and lots of deaths...

lol… only one of these I ever died in was when 2 of the Boomers (exploding Risen) spawned completely at random right next to me. …Oh and I think that Mining suit for the Norn origin got me too simply b/c Mining suits that constantly spawn 2 extra minions every 30 seconds is just plain game-breaking versus a level ~25 character. You don’t fight any Veteran Suits of that variety in the open world until the very end of Dredhaunt Cliffs which is what, level 55?? By then most of us have all Rares and multiple Elites to pick from.

I’m not bragging, This is purely for feedback: I didn’t die once in the so called ‘End game’ Pact missions. …though, I only did these missions for the first time this past week, yet I’ve already done every Dungeon explorable path that offers a real challenge by now, so my perspective is probably really badly skewed and biased at this point… (full Exotics set too).

We don't like Trahearne *Spoiler Warning* [merged]

-Have Tybalt survive in some cowardly way, involving apples.
-When Logan sacrifices himself, actually kill him. This is a character I could do without.
-Have Trahearne turn evil at the end.

Strongly agree with 2 out of 3 of these… except just having their Morale dashed at the end is just as good. Leave one (or both) of them an even more shattered man. Let’s be honest, Tybalt already looked pretty broken down to begin with. Don’t discount it either, an entire plot of nothing but personal setbacks tells a story too, and worked for Episode 5 (star wars) which is often regarded as the most impactful of the original series. It would have bought time as well to come up with better ‘redemption’ plots involving them for the expansions.

IE: these other guys failed themselves so it’s up to you to go find ways (explorables, WvW rank, etc) to be strong enough to show them what a legendary character really looks like. You’d see them back in your home instance anytime you made big new achievements and they’d take solace in it.

I can see what they were doing with Trahearne here and I don’t hate him or find him as bland as everyone else did. But I know that it didn’t really translate well even when they did it with Kormir who actually was Inspiring and likable atleast at the Start.

Especially CM’s & COE’s Storymodes which were at one point actually more difficult than their easiest Explorable paths…

Did CM story in like… 10-13mins the other day… :-P I don’t know if it’s powercreep due to us running a lot better builds or nerfs…

I never did it before that though, but some people in the party were like “jesus, when I did this the first time, this was sooooo hard”.

Well, it’s gonna really depend on who you ask.
The VERY FIRST version of it was really easy. …ppl were farming it for the gold as bad as they farm COF now. Then a super hard version came out where the guys with knockdown spam but no telegraphs were also 1-hitting us level 80’s who had over 2000 toughness. They were basically as bad as T.A. Knights were. I’m sure it’s seen more changes since then though… hope that reveals atleast some of the history of it.

Why I reluctantly deleted my ranger

in Ranger

Posted by: ilr.9675

ilr.9675

I suppose if you really like micro-managing, then GW2’s version of a ranger is for you.

Always been a compulsive Micro’er but I’m not stupid either, I can TELL that our combined efforts (both mine and my pets) just aren’t measuring up in dungeons.

I find it ESPECIALLY interesting that my pet can usually ‘tank’ more damage than me out in the Persistent zones against most mobs, yet last night when the stupid Mouth of Zhaitan sucked us in and than SAT on both of us… my woofie died instantly but I still had 40% of my HP’s left. …Granted I’m pretty tough even by survivalist Ranger standards…. but still…

It really seems like Pets have a severe Mitigation PENALTY versus dungeon bosses. If we’re on the topic of things that we should be able to “train our pets” up to, I think that right there is a good starting place. It’s just a bad mechanic in general because it MAKES US look bad when we can’t even stow our pets permanently. (they always pop back out the intstant we’re put back into combat)

A Veteran spider back at one of the Camps was also spawning what were obviously Veteran Hatchlings… I commented that makes no sense… and someone else nearby said, “Yeah, usually Veteran implies having lots of Experience”. How do hatchlings have that kind of experience? I think the simplest answer is they DON’T and Anet needs to revert this entire mechanic — until they can get a better baseline for scaling. (IE: start off with events made for Duo’s b/c that’s all you’re going to see in these zones now most of the time until they find a way to merge more servers back into one)

You know that Arenanet doesn’t want you to earn gold right? Hurts their gem sales.

So they introduced that spider ‘fix’ to prevent farming.

If that’s true then why haven’t they nerfed COF yet?
It’s causing more inflation faster than Orr farming ever did…

Ridiculous NPCs

Tybalt

At the moment where he sacrificed himself out of the blue for you and Mr. Bland Salad to escape the blandness of Claw Island.
How the hell was Tybalt supposed to hold the undead off? He’s a OoW agent, the guys that hide during the day and backstab their enemies while they’re taking a kitten . And I was supposed to believe Tybalt’s last stand somehow made a difference? He’d be torn limb from limb in seconds! One of the most forced moments of the PS.

Yeah. Though what I find most ridiculous about it is that there was no reason to make him a Martyr in the first place. And I’m not just talking about the fact that an Engineer is always more useful on the OTHER SIDE of a door when trying to hold it up against a Seige.. ….WHY? SO WE COULD TROT 40FT BEHIND US to some get-away ship? We’ve already covered this one in Sanctum Cay… you don’t have to kill EVERYTHING that’s coming for your boat unless you don’t know how to do the Bonus the easy way. * rolls eyes *

I mean just look at his depressed puppydog Features… he was a walking martyr already… That sad cubicle prisoner that is also implied to have blown up his own warband as a failed Engineer. You don’t need to remove that kind of element from the story to make people feel MORE sorry for him. Just having him around in your sights day in day out does it 10x better. IE: he’d make a much better Martyr simply by retiring to our home instance and rambling sadly & incoherently about apples like Fadden.

I really feel like they took it too far here with a character we already felt pretty sorry for and it just works against them by NOT having him be a daily presence in our instances. As we see later: even corrupted vessels can have their Ghosts somewhere else in the map while a dragon controls their bodies. So maybe Anet has a chance for redemption here beyond an insanely expensive Ascended Accessory. But as long as they keep doing this Living-Salesy distraction stuff instead, they’ll never bother to set things right with this poor SOB.

So it’s 63% MF a real thing or not? I’m going to think that based on how most other stats are linearly with their effects, MF does too.

I tihnk you have to do ALOT of statistics to confirm any relationship with DR and MF or chance for rares relation to MF. The only thing I believe … you have to get as much MF as you can and farm as fast as you can with it.

Operative fallacy underlined. What you’re not aware of here atleast from my observations… is the that the core mechanic of their DR actually seems to MONITOR your KPM somehow. So is my “number” real? Absolutely not. In theory the number is actually supposed to be atleast the Margin of Error (3%-8% higher) higher. …which is where Anet probably assumed they had it set. But like I said; they’re prone to misplaced decimals and overconfidence in their own past history of infallible Netcoding. Am I inferring that even mere nanoseconds and routing miscalculations could be part of those wide margins of error?? …. yes, …yes I am.

Nor am I asking you to take my word on it. All I’m saying is don’t be so hasty to chock it all up to the most obvious stats. What you assume is working for you, may actually be working against you. Pay closer attention to those things and try other methods first.

People make the same mistakes all the time when it comes to Aggro Calculations too.

Having Rare gear and trying out the Story modes right at that level you get that rare gear at helps… atleast that’s how I beat my first AC explorable back when they ACTUALLY WERE HARD. …infact there was hundreds of players in Beta who were barely even level 50 but beat them back then even though their bosses & objectives were horribly bugged/broken and a lot harder than they are now…

Some people will tell you the Storymodes are nothing like Explorables, but they share similar “silver/Lieutenant” ranks of mobs atleast which helps prepare you for the tactics needed in dungeons. I’d say more… but I honestly can’t get over the initial trepidation of the Anet quote in the subject line. … it’s a loaded statement right now that could easily turn into a lollercoaster if they keep doing this “we’re gonna SURPRISE them!” garbage instead of just coming here and asking us directly to participate in their “Iterative Design Process”. ….Hell, even SONY invites a lot more player input on big W.I.P. proposals like this and they’re by historical definition, Evil to the Core. What the hell is Anet’s excuse? They act like they’re all in a Mensa version of the Order(of Whispers) but instead it usually blows up in their faces like an Inquest version of the Nutty Professor.

that’s what ppl kept saying about GW1 but it only sold more and more copies as the years went on :p

It’s first 2 years IIRC, only sold about a million copies even with factions. Then by its 7th year it was up to 8 million I think… Now this one’s up to 3 million even without any expansions. …which I think coincidentally might be BAD for its long term “vision”.

Though I’m willing to reserve final judgment for atleast 5 years out…

We’ve got a whole nother Category of Consumables just to offset this y’know..
…Granted, they require Dust which isn’t exactly in “hedonous” supply currently
… but it’s still an option for the truly determined ‘Tyrian Tough Guys’.

I have more toughness & vitality spec’d on my Ranger than I do Power & MF% and the main reason I built her in the first place was for MF farming. Infact I think she even has more Tough & definitely more HP’s than my Guardian …and so far I can’t complain about my DPS, it’s actually surprisingly good when I’m running the right Cons and 25 stacks of “Perception”. It also makes stacking mobs together a lot easier for some reason than pure Zerkers can thanks to the odd Aggro algorithms *(much like A.L.N. just said). I pulled P.o.Dwayna’s aggro off 30 other players the other night with some kind of UpUp DownDown LRLRABAB combo and the timing couldn’t have been better b/c I was the only one behind her and I blocked her Nuke a second later. No, Toughness on its own doesn’t make you Tank in this game… It’s what do you after you’ve got their attention that decides if you’re the “Tank” or not

Every day at 5PM server time the NSP server does a temple run starting at Meddler’s if you want to come see in person the headache these guys are. The only way we get around them during Grenth is to let them despawn, but it takes several minutes to convince everyone to get the heck away from the wraith and stop attacking it.

Actually I think most of them DO play on NSP and that might be part of the issue with their Rose Tinted glasses. Yeah you might have a few people that don’t listen but I still see a much higher success ratio for those Temples playing on NSP than I see on other servers…

Another thing that might help… is giving us some other recipes for these darn Clovers. A bunch of us started making them just for the Mats instead… And as we know, the only real “throttling” ingredient we can’t buy off the TP for their creation is basically the Obsid shards themselves which are most directly linked to both these temples with the most gimmicky win mechanics (keeping extremely frail NPC’s who can’t be rezzed, ALIVE). So yeah…I hope Anet has a complete solution here that addresses all of these things at once b/c only addressing 1 at a time just sets the “Meta” back and leads to more gimmicking and people blaming eachother.

Finding active guilds is easy.
Finding guilds with players who actually team together without it feeling like pulling teeth for more mundane newby things is a whole different story though. Atleast it is on NA. And being on one of the least populated ones isn’t going to help much either I suspect. … I think a better place to start than outright “JOIN A GUILD”, is to try and guest to the least ‘Pubby’ most competent servers first (I don’t know exactly which to recommend here though… I just know which ones to avoid). ….and then keep an eye out for good players.

Another option might be to check out http://gw2lfg.com/ and but DON’T try to join the Explorables and definitely not COF runs. …(b/c you need to be 80 to do most explorables). Just use it for the other things more your level. Use it to reach out to other players and find helpful ppl who don’t mind teaming for those less rewarding activities b/c those are the kinds of players who are truly ‘Geared in Altruism runes’

.

(Ps: to Nivision; I’m also available on NA to help other players with that awkward “jump” between the lowby levels of 60 and below, up to the Fully exo’d 80 and beyond …. back in GW1 I’d even go play Monk in abandoned lowby missions just to help new players with those transitions through mid-game)

I don’t want to insult their Artists either (b/c … Most Artists are by nature, already going to be harder on themselves than anyone else and it doesn’t take much to set that off). It’s just… really hard to come up with REALLY “iconic” designs. Most of my favorite skins so far are basically all the Retros that found their way here from GW1. (and we STILL don’t have Silverwing yet! …. or the BDS & FrogScep I’m sure lots of others want back)

But yeah … YOU try designing some new ones. I tried and it’s HARD bro

Seriously it needs to stop. Really. Every single update we see threads like this where people complain they don’t get the “expected” amount of ectos from their dozen of rares salvaged.

Oh, it’ll stop…. It’ll stop immediately when Anet gets it together and puts in some Streak-Breaker code

27 Ectos out of 100 Salvages?? Even just seeing a lousy 10 out of 20 like I did during this patch was enough to raise suspicions. You should never go 0 for 3 for something that cost ~16s to craft when the salvage piece you want is only worth ~18s. That’s just Anet’s net&DB Coders being too focused on bad priorities. They’ve already got D.R. …so if they’re going to micromanage our Probabilities to the level DR does, then it’s only fair for them to go in the opposite direction when it comes to the stuff we had to pry away from that stupid D.R. situation. OTHERWISE, they’re just double dipping on their Magical Money-Sinks. …aka: Double Taxed Earnings… YEAH, I wanna hear Mr Smith up there try and justify that one with all his other real-world market prinicples. This is supposed to be a Casual Fantasy Game for crying out loud … who’s Fantasy tho? Lenin’s??

Does Anet play the game

Part of the problems in the first game stemmed from them playing too much.
…or I guess playing in their private comfort zones too much (a specific guild that won’t be mentioned here). …then again most of us are all guilty of that so not really sure where to draw the line in the sand on that one

…. Both cases was on Northern Shiverpeaks.

well now that actually makes a lot of sense considering it has the same word in common with that prior guild… (props to NSP though, generally they seem a lot more competent overall than other servers I’ve tried playing with. Too bad their Gw1 drama & egos also carried over with them)

knowing my luck all I’m going to be hearing on my server is the Trololol song and rap music

What GW1 feature would you bring to GW2

Replacing your 1 handed items …. with a 2 handed weapon….

…WOULD NOT PLACE THE DARN O.H. BACK IN THE TOP OF YOUR INVENTORY ..where you have to hunt for it later & worry about accidentally selling it

It would just stay there in the offhand, but crossed out like in GW1.

(or just most needed right now?)

Districts. All open world PvE zones are no longer on servers but instead are all on one server that can create districts as needed.

Did anyone mention how fast you get your dailes done when you WvW??

.

a daily shouldn’t be something you have to actively focus on. just randomly doing whatever you want ingame for 20 minutes should award you with it.

That’s taking ‘casual’ way toooo far….

Maybe if ‘dailies’ directly gave the Crafting materials instead… that these things were built from, I’d say okay… go do your 20 minutes of fuffing about for them b/c atleast Crafting still enhances the game’s economy when everyone participates equally in it… but no, this thread’s gonna get laughed at by most old school MMO’ers… (EDIT: looks like I’m way too late there…. so maybe this was just a troll thread?)
