Just be glad they brought back one of the Old Sets that wasn’t 100% longcoats
..sort of…
…use it most often for dungeons/jumppuzzes where I need to see a lot more of the ground around my already oversized Norn… (for regular farming, I prefer a mix of Whispers and C.M. armor)
There’s also the “other” Duelist armor, but it’s more Canthan looking…

Yeah I remember that it was totally Meaningless: Punch Out Extravaganza

Meanwhile in REAL pvp….
Recaptured on Northern Shiv Peaks (NA) @ 7:25 PST time.
(ya got 90 minutes to get there)
THIS!
I never finished my character’s story because it ends in a dungeon.
well its not really a “real” dungeon… It’s more like a 75 minute series of quicktime events.
The only dungeon + team coordination part is going to be against this big fat sumo thing with a mouth in its stomach that you have to toss his own bomb back at, with a little bit of timing. And the only coordination trick there is making sure everyone else knows enough not to clump up or EVER try to Melee him. (he just sits on newby players and kills them instantly).
The hardest part is always finding 4 other ppl who actually want to do it again (but Feel free to PM in the unlikelyhood that it proves too difficult for that team…)
I still noticed a lot of complaining in the Warr forum anyway. They had a good point too… No DPS changes at all to Guardians? Guardians got some more DPS in certain trait changes?
What??
So why all the nerfing to our Ranger pets then if Guardian… the most BUNKERY of bunkerers was untouched?? (and yes my main IS guardian so this this isn’t guardian hate)
Tuning up Diff without tuning Spawn Rates down first is a Disaster in the making.
All it does is put even more emphasis on TTK which is overemphasized as it is
.
(yeah I use a gamepad too … it makes a big difference … but I was lefthanded to begin with so YMMV)
(edited by ilr.9675)
Depends OP…. did you go through all this ‘Symmetry’ trouble just for a PVE avatar?
If so then maybe you should feel a bit slighted… But you’re also bordering on the OCD which isn’t entirely Anet’s fault either.
In most MMOs pvp is the main part of the end game and PVE is to gear up.
That’s a complete Lie (and “Gear Up”? Who wants PvP based on gearscore?)
Even in Guildwars1 which was intended from the start to focus on PvP, most of them never stuck around. …Most of them were ‘too high maintenance", demanded too much, or just plain left for the next newest PvP title to come along. Maybe the ones that stayed around played more than the vast majority of casuals, RA’ers, FA/JQ’ers, and anyone else who didn’t qualify for GVG & TA … but they only made up a sliver of the actual players and accounts. The only popular MMO you can claim is all about PvP’ers, is Planetside b/c there’s literally nothing else aside from Turret farming that gives XP from the environment.
(edited by ilr.9675)
I keep hoping there will be a sort of ‘regrowth’ to it now that (for a lot of us, anyway) Zhaitan is gone, so the undead should stop spawning, slowly, and the place can rebuild a bit. Not sure how they would implement that apart from phasing, but perhaps as and when another dragon is released, Zhaitan and his minions can finally start to be laid to rest.
“Districting” … IE: instead of dividing people up by server, divide them up by the how much success they’ve contributed to it’s regrowth. Not just personal story, but also champ & temple holding. The more progressed (timeline) Districts would of course have tougher challenges scaled for more players, but they’d also have cleaner “thoroughfares” with less obnoxious crap leaping out to snare you every 5 seconds.. It’s basically the way ALL outside zones worked in GW1.
(edited by ilr.9675)
I don’t do any of the regularly but I’ve never gotten better
I do them every day I still never got better than a masterwork from any of them
The crafting mats they drop are complete crap too. They’re almost a big a let down as fighting Champions
this is why I never played L4D. this is also why factions was the last part of the series I ever bought… Even when rendering conditions are pristine, these are cheap mechanics.
The dungeon gives you the gear as you’re doing it so it’s not a cost issue and even if it was, it’s only about 8g to fully EXO for that anyway (assuming you’re a thrifty shopper/crafter).
Hell I did Arah in mostly Rares and completely carried other PUGers through CM & AC in rares. They’d have to be really bad players to keep failing COF just b/c they didn’t have ‘the perfect gear score’ …Grenth & Balth are a lot harder to just faceroll over… even with a big zerg …infact the bigger it is, the more likely you are to die to stuff that’s not even rendering.
“Survivability” in dungeons isn’t as bad as it is made out to be on the forums. A large portion of the very experienced playerbase has moved to a very heavy DPS based mentality, and when they see someone/some group doing poorly in dungeons, it is often assumed that he is wearing “survivability” gear, when the performance is probably better attributed to dungeon inexperience.
^This
Forums are always going to be full of Hyperbole & ‘internet tough guys’.
Most dungeon runs aren’t going to be 5 uber-experienced spikers who dodge perfectly all of the time. And playing with those sorts of people gets boring really fast IMO. Plus, if you’re a longer time player with gold to burn, there’s no ‘fight club’ rules here saying you can’t get another bag slot just for a second or 3rd set of armor to switch to in the less common event, that no one’s ever getting hit back by anything. :\
I run mostly Vitality, Crit, Tough on my ranger too. It’s not some crutch. It’s just a reflection of the reality that things change, and Anet likes changing things. Maybe not every month, but certainly every year… And I don’t like respec’ing my entire approach to things that often just b/c some speedrun kiddies followed the next fad and expect everyone to embrace that month’s flavor with them.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Imo, they should focus more on a reward overhaul in the sense of rewarding the harder dungeons (Arah mainly) more. Preferably in the way they rewarded GW1 dungeons: unique, tradeable dungeon skins that only drop in certain dungeons/paths. The system worked very well, because it revolved around supply and demand: the easy dungeons with mediocre skins were overfarmed by PUGs, meaning the skins were worth little, while the somewhat harder dungeons had the best skins, which had lower supply, thus were worth more.
I dunno… if that would really be an improvement, or a step backwards. I so rarely ever see any Drag’sDeep weapons. I see tons of really expensive skins hither and thar, sometimes I even see people actually USING those weapons in combat instead of just sitting in LA all day flipping the market. These grid covered wings in this update for example… Saw lots of people with them on the 2nd day. Doesn’t tell you a thing about their skill level though. Infact it’s 2nd week now, and I’ve got 3 of them sitting in my inventory. And I won’t ever wear them b/c A) I hate that texture, & B) makes you stick out for all the wrong reasons.
I did DOA enough times to get 3 Torm weapons. I did UW enough times to pop a Smitey. I never equipped the weapons and almost never brought out the mini. Never even bothered going for Obs armor… (it was too brutish/ugly for most classes IMO). … About the only things to really be proud of in Gw1 were the things you couldn’t just buy or less grind based titles like Grandmaster Cartog…Vanquisher…etc that the game didn’t just hold your hand through it the entire way (“been there done that” is definitely not on the same tier.) So yeah I think it’s important that some uniqueness be maintained here. It’s bad enough already that people can just instantly buy Legendaries with their credit cards. (…and I really hope when they add the Scav hunt, that there’s some new skins that people could only have gotten by completing very tricky hunts).
Part of it is, that there’s a lot of people who are only happy when they feel like they have a big advantage over everyone else. …I know… shocking revelation when it comes to online gaming. But they’ll constantly abuse, and trump it up in their own minds whether it saves a few minutes or mere seconds. So it’s never really going to go away.
And without direct Dev involvement here, there’s really nothing encouraging players to even bother Reporting the ones(exploits) that really do give huge advantages.
Aquaman IS our class.
/fixed
^haha, wol lut?
Lots of classes been begging for skill Splits… I only remember 2 instances of it ever happening though. Pathetic. We know it’s not difficult either, I’d be shocked if there was any programming even involved. So it must be “pride” thing for them even though like 1/3rd of the skills in GW1 eventually got split. Nothing about it makes sense :\ …just like that post above this.
I wish we had more than 2 mainhands to pick from tho
lulz, mainhand torch…if only
It is a little suspicious that there isn’t a single DPS nerf in the section about Guardians.
…then again I don’t 1000’s of posts on LFG every day demanding Berserker Guardians either…
All I can think is that this is a painfully extensive update that changes our place in the world a bit by changing everyone else’s too. ….and also that too many of the upcoming changes are actually nerfs to the few SKILL SHOTS we had while buffing really facerolley stuff . Are they TRYING dumb down an already box-a-rocks doorknob tier class??
Don’t get me wrong we actually may get some okay buffs on dungeon potential here…. but it just … seems … so … patronizing :p …whatever happened to encouraging the bad players to get better??
has this been posted here yet?
Leaks have always been against TOS … atleast on GURU they always were…
Anet almost always puts every build still in testing under NDA. Plz respect those NDA’sok fine I didn’t know that, seems to be all over the rest of the forum though, deleted
Thanks
ppl who HAVE to hear that kind of stuff right this instant, can just google for it anyway
they just have to keep in mind that only about 1/2 of the things ever seen in the leaks ever come out that way in the final releases

They never heard of Cross-Promotion? What log have they been living under?
I know we got those stupid Wings back when Aion came out so they must have been to atleast one sales meeting on it
And if we’re gonna fight air pirates next, then I DEMAND a Crescent shaped Airboard and a snappy Theme song. Screw immersion, it died the instant the first Legendary was Rolled.

Torment =http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Weaken_Knees ?
Seems right for necros to get that, and assassins had something similar, iirc, as did rits.
Well yeah… Mesmers and Guardians directly inhereted most of the things that Rits did best. IE: SpiritSpam + Destruct/Rapture, Quickening, channeling, etc.. I’m not sure where random conditions came from but I’ve already said we don’t need the RNG picking winners and losers in sPvP TYVM :\ …it’s bad enough it picks them in PvE/crafting
yeah, i’m kinda confused.. aren’t Eng & Ranger the classes that need the most tweaking & not Ele & Thief? I main Guardian so I’m not sure.. but..
in PvE, most definitely…
But apparently this balance team doesn’t think it needs skill splits anymore… even though only a fraction of the people PvP’ing are actually doing it in sPvP

Bring back “Districting” … problem solved
And since when have they ever put in every Solution all in the same update??
Sometimes we get the Carrot first. …sometimes we get the Stick first
^did that guy just say he’s getting kited on a class that specializes in burst Rifle pressure?
“Burst pressure” is a bizarre non-sequitur.
Don’t blame me, blame GW’s hybrid combat model.
It’s always been this way. In other rifle games you usually have to go find a med-kit after being sniped really hard :p … and just b/c it got nerfed 9 months ago doesn’ mean it’s never going to be viable again
(edited by ilr.9675)
Just remember, it’s different people, talking at different times.
There’s ALWAYS going to be a Vocal Minority. You can’t escape it in Real Life either.
Infact it’s actually a lot worse out there (special interest groups, drama queens, the media & sensationalism in general)
Repeating the most farmable ones never should have been where the fastest rewards were to begin with though. …Eventually we actually saw Shards(Obsids) becoming very valuable because of all this stuff coming to a head and the shortages of Dust/T6’s. This meant that completing the entire CHAIN was much more important than simply farming. The only problem is that the materials produced are still at the mercy of RNG just like all the Coffers & Chests we keep seeing every month. IF the Crafting system itself was more robust, then we wouldn’t need this constant farming and “Precursor Lottery” system as the only viable means in the first place. …then Events could happens hours apart, last longer, and the populations wouldn’t be so fractured all the time.
(edited by ilr.9675)
^did that guy just say he’s getting kited on a class that specializes in burst Rifle pressure?
I find it weird that they’re talking about all these Condition changes…
…yet they somehow leave out PvE specifics where diversity & conditions are the weakest. We’re getting a little ahead of ourselves here. True, they didn’t give PvE specifics; but these are just a preview, they didn’t give specifics about ANYTHING.
Okay then I mis-used the word Specifics… Entirety of this Blog was mostly PvP Generalities. Where’s the PvE generalities?
Balance patches and changes are generally due to PvP not PvE. simply because mobs don’t cry nerf/buff or quit over perceived imbalances.
Also because every class can, in every spec, complete all reasonable PvE content. Even though some classes may be stronger than others in PvE the non scaling, static nature of all content but fractals makes the need to buff or nerf classes generally secondary to PvP
Also Guild Wars 2 has deep roots in PvP, (from GW) and much of the game revolves around PvP especially after the story is complete.
Nature of the beast I’m afraid. But I doubt Anet has not taken PvE into account. Many of those changes (as some have pointed out) will effect PvE as well as PvP, you may have to extrapolate that information for yourself though.
You do realize , that you’re lecturing someone who read every single “State of the Game” ever posted, every month they were posted…. right? …And that eventually the complaining about this tangent went away when they started doing proper Developer Update write-ups… Yeah… this is WHY we go into specifics in the first place.
There’s no need to act like there’s only 2 kinds of players. Some of us understand both modes. (and yeah I’m laughing pretty hard at these ppl who think Mez/Thief were already god’s gift to PvP …they sound like every RA’er ever)
(edited by ilr.9675)
What baffles me about the thread is the fact that people keep moaning that the most OP classes are getting a new condition. Meanwhile two paragraphs above the condition piece it clearly states that all classes will receive heavy updates across the board.
No they didn’t say everyone, they said all traits + some overly optimal Traited specs…
That’s just them hinting at hurrfadurff OP r.n.g. YOLO warriors getting a downtune.
…which everyone who was paying attention to dungeons could already see coming…
Again: Crit stacking is a viable playstyle and was clearly the basis of the entire Traits system. But bad players, bad exploits everywhere, and even worse A.I. keeps mucking up how challenging it was supposed to be to continually abuse that sort of pressure.
Anet’s always promoted certain levels of situational power abuse, they knows it’s what makes a playstyle “fun” to people. But they eventually have to rope some of them
in when it gets out of hand
(edited by ilr.9675)
can’t hear any of you b/c I spent 2 days hanging from a sign post by my ears
also: I dare everyone to look at “Out with it / I’ve got what you need” the same way again after stumbling accross some charr 34

The convenience of opening out a waypoint is completely negated by the fact that the events reset after a couple of minutes anyway making any effort to open a waypoint practically worthless.
+1
It takes way too much effort and Zergs of players to actually ‘Change the Landscape’
…and then it just resets itself a few minutes later b/c the NPC’s guarding anything blow over in a soft breeze. Even the Temples chase you out after only 90 minutes with a Stupid Lich boss thing that heals itself back to FULL on all the NPCs who rush into Melee Range against it b/c they’re NPCs and we can’t control them like we used to be able to control our Heroes.
What the heck is the point of D.E.s again Colin? He needs to come back here and actually answer that question. This doesn’t feel at all different from every other MMO that just respawns everything right back in the same places a few minutes later. Infact it’s worse b/c it’s also a lot more empty and devoid of other players with crappier drops (or no drops at all) now at the same time.

^Well obviously that’s why “skill splits” were supposed to exist in the first place.

25 stack limit on the most common conditions will still be a problem, right?
“Yellow” Structural Objectives are still unaffected by conditions even though a Poison by definition is a Corrosive that should eat through certain ones 2x faster than any Sword… Or Burning which is basically a Welder’s Torch & should go through others 4x faster…
This seems a bit short-sighted over all. Yeah I guess Taint Shekels should help Necs in PvE, but if it doesn’t always work on Elite-“silvers” & Champs then what was the point of it??? It says “check out the patch notes” … when? When it’s ready? Sounds like it already is ready if they can sound so confident in pitching it in this blog.
.
The last issue I see is Weakness just having a Random roll against Crits. It’s nice they’re finally admitting this was broken and underpowered. But why is it remaining Random Chance? It’s like they’re not even listening to us and all the R.N.G. hatred that’s been welling up everywhere lately. Preventing Crits was not a Random mechanic in GW1.

don’t worry, you won’t need a blink dagger just to counter it
Find yourself a good guild…
already GOT ONE thanks.
what you’re selectively tuning out here…. why any of it matters… is because what the majority of facerollers do, then impacts datamining & how Anet changes the content. DHUUM SKELLIES…. nuff’ said.
If you don’t know that that means… it means they put in a stupid gimmick to try and stop speed clearers who then just ran past the darn things. Then when the rest of the good but relaxed guilds like yours and mine wanted to do that content, we had to get the exact Abusive builds that the Skellies were supposed to have stopped in the first place. Otherwise we couldn’t even get past 4Horsemen on NM b/c of the additional adds that ignored all or AL & buffs.

NO
Dungeons are already too face-rolley with full Exotics.
The only condition I’d be okay with, is if there was no “Berseker” Stats even possible.
Either that or Anet need to rework their stinkin’ “End game” so that there’s more than 1 ‘best way to play it’…. got so sick of that crap back when everything came down to Ursanway and Terrraway & BUH. You’d think they would have learned by now…
Only thing that’s going to kill WoW is Titan.
Just like the only thing that killed GW1 was GW2
Rift + GW2 equals Wildstar. NCSoft was one step ahead of you.
also borderlands. they spared no expense in lifting material. its like disney’s toon town in space jam for people who can’t aim well enough in BL’s and firefall, and couldn’t dodge/block fast enough in this game. I hope it has a lot of success anyway just so that NC doesn’t feel pressured to make cuts elsewhere should it not go as planned… Last time things didn’t go as planned, GW’s sister-game COH got the axe. They’d probably just flip a coin at this point when deciding between Aion and GW1’s servers ..

Windmeeeeeellllll!
(was probably too early for most ppl here tho :p)
honestly?? Umm zero times that I can recall.
Usually it was always a problem of us not all being on the same page together and planning for what to do half way through. Starting on the same page in the same order is easy in that room. Actually figuring out what order to spike in and more importantly what to do halfway through when things actually get hectic…. (spread aggro and keep kiting? Or bunker around Hodgs & help the guard clear half of them??). Some people think killing them fast as possible is always the best solution without even realizing that an extra LT/Elite spawns each time (and it’s usually a Scav or Breeder). I’m guessing that if someone isn’t really good at paying attention to your F.O.O. strategy, then maybe just killing the burrows slower and stopping to mop up the old adds first might guarantee success with those players who have the overall experience & “target prioritizing” of a Ranger Pet ??
Not assuming… this is a genuine query into the psychology of these players.
Anecdotal recounts or further experiments, please?
(edited by ilr.9675)
If you haven’t already, try to build “the next best thing” out of Rares and Masterwork jewelry first just to make sure it’s actually the Playstyle you’re going to be comfortable with. I did my first Arah in mostly Rares :p (I didn’t tell anyone anyone at the time b/c I didn’t wanna be kicked from the team, lol). The only thing that has to be Exotic going into it IMO is your mainhand weapon. You don’t even need good armor for HotW’s which go pretty fast and generally give better Guardian gear than almost any other dungeon.
Hell I’m still walkin around with masterwork jewerly on him b/c I’m too cheap to buy exotics and am also boycotting FOTM’s.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Hmm, have a lvl 35 clueless noob or a lvl 80 clueless noob…I’ll take the lvl 80 thanks. Your post implies that somehow beyond all reason the lvl 35 is going to magically learn faster or something than the lvl 80.
Obvious Red herring… since the 80 wasn’t even interested in doing the dungeon till a gear skin was proven inaccessible via any other means — As was already stated here and in the AC thread, the 80 will just be offended when told everything they learned in Persistent zones was B.S.-- Meanwhile the lowby is so genuinely interested in learning the mechanics of more gimmicky “Dungeon Play” that they’d risk much more abuse just to endure it….
It’s almost poetic if you think about it and EXACTLY HOW all of us who were in beta & first weeks of release went about it. Someone had to take the risk and learn from all of those mistakes which were passed on to everyone else who followed. No one went into it an instant pro. They practiced and let rote memory do the rest. People who want to continue in that tradition should be encouraged, not callously called names. Shame on you for embodying everything that the real Elites get blamed for whenever the term “elitist” gets thrown around. Real elitism embraces taking risks to always be improving…never stop improving. It’s never been about hiding in the comfort of a proven equation.

Why do people prefer D/D ele over S/D ele in dungeons? :o
In dungeon I prefer FGS ele :P
srs response will happen one day T_T
just imagine if you could weapon swap, could have FDS immediately follow your FGS
Now who sounds crazy? …go ahead an stand in one spot for 2 hours, then kill whatever is near you expecting it to drop nothing at all. How does that make sense? …We actually used to foil the old DR in Gw1 by just doing this… waiting about 5 minutes in a single spot BEFORE we started farming & re-farming it. Switching Alts sometimes helped too. 0_o
If you want to see some more interesting results, don’t just AOE everything at once, even if it balls up on it’s own. Finish them off one by one further spans apart, then watch as more l00t tends to drop. People who follow your line of logic would never notice something weird like this, they’d just immediately do whatever it takes to equip the highest power MF+Zerkers stuff b/c they think everything’s going to be perfectly linear like a Blizzard game or JRPG…

3000 hours already??? It’s only been a year… The scary part is there’s other ppl in this thread writing off that much time. It’s a fool’s errand and was maybe even a Scam from the get-go. And this forum should really be about other things. This one single obsession that makes up 90% of its traffic isn’t normal. It’s sick in my opinion, and I played the first game so much other people were telling me —> I had a problem <-- .
