I’m actually okay with this Necro… And agree, even though I use my GS for like 75% of all my fighting, the DPS feels atleast 20% too low…

It wouldn’t actually be that bad (what we got instead)…. if we didn’t have to wait 10 friggin seconds before the Pet could do “lick wounds” in PVE…. b/c then 5 seconds of quickness on it would actually make some kind of difference. (as opposed to absolutely none at all which is the case right now).

Just a random note, squishy classes is not relly an excuse, if the player is strong enough even an ele can run full zerker. It all comes down to the players dodging skills and the group support around him.

Yeah …. :\ …however (and we have this same discussion all the time in the ranger forum…) when those players don’t even realize that Ranged weapons are still garbage even with Zerker mods; when Compared to a strong melee build in PVT or Valk’s… I don’t… even… see the point. To me it’s just another 12 year old with a jimmy hat in his wallet who’s got atleast 5 more years to go before he even gets near 2nd base…

Spoiler Alert…

There wasn’t any actual “Story” in the last Dungeon :p
Loot is Crap too … 1 person out of your party will get a T6 whatever piece of Aetherized metal that has a 1 in 12 chance of turning into a charged whatsit. …I get a 1/3 chance of getting those from Dwayna/Lyssa’s chest every day and it didn’t require me to run around in a circle 48 times climbing crates every 15 seconds while Blitzkrank tries to troll-pull me into his blender-Tower.

I agree, I should have to run this content only on my Alt that I need those runes for which was the only reason I was doing that dungeon in the first place, and o/c also b/c most chests should just be Ran past. What was I thinking?

Here you want a Fix to this that fixes EVERY stupid boring over-tuned boss in Dungeons??

When they do their big Telegraphs?? ….ya Following this?…
….
Their stupid unnecessary gimmicky Unshakable passive drops for 1.5 seconds.
….(go ahead, click it if you’re not sure what that is).

But ya don’t stop there… you also start putting more Veteran mobs in these fights… Veterans that place a “Bond” skill on whichever mob is getting spiked with the highest DPS. Bonds like: Angelic & Seed … that follow the same rules for Necro/Mesmer “stripping” that CC follows (IE: also drops during those big Telegraphs).

When it came to Spiders in EotN… these massive spawns of DPS’ing ones were a total joke. Hell they could mass spawn EarthBound Oozes with them like in Arachni’s and it didn’t matter one bit to players who actually knew what they were doing and weren’t just running Maximum DPS bullcrap. That’s how fights were kept interesting. Every now and then they threw in a couple LifeWeavers or a Chained Cleric. Our abilities to actually MOVE mobs around in this game with real physics and crap gives this whole reality even more potential depth than GW1 had. So the only question remaining, is why the hell the Devs haven’t done it already??

Are we still in the Training Wheels stage here?
Are they too worried the Zerkers might rage quit??

Can a representative from ANet answer this?

They already did Tweak it several times. Atleast it’s shorter now :p

But going forward on this….. Something they FORGOT to do from GW1…

Is keep all the Epic exposition and story/plot INSIDE the single player Storyline.
In GW1, the final Epic Boss fights was literally the ENTIRETY of that Mission everyone grouped up for. There’s wasn’t 5 cutscenes of Logan rediscovering his Testes again (but even failing hard at dying too, which we’d all wished he’d Would have along with TreeHernia) plus 50 minutes of Trash Mobs & a slow Thunder Head Keep style Boat ride to slog through. no… in GW1…. They saved that “Pacing”/Padding for the parts you could do with Heroes/Henchies. The only final mission that was ever that drawn out, was Precipice which most ppl hated and ran Winter Gimmicks just to get through with other bad pubbies who failed hard at interrupting Rodgorts & Healsig.

^Which is fine as long as you’re not making Semi-Pub groups…
I got kind of a out of left field one here….

B/c I actually liked Pugging in Gw1… Did the Z-dailies every chance I got.
It kept things interesting by always presenting varying degrees of difficulty which my Mesmer and Monk were always (well usually) always capable of salvaging….

That is to say: There’s almost NEVER a shortage of all DPS builds in any PUG you join.
What there usually isn’t ANY of, is someone to put Group-Buffing on top of them. (& heals).

Even in my guild dungeon runs, not much buff sharing & group healing seems to occur.
And what do we have available on that tangent that also double as MF%?? Givers!, along with Monk & Altruism… Then added to that, some of us who might choose to run those instead, also already did MOST of our DPS with reflects & retribution anyway :p ….there’s also Wayfarer’s which is pretty good Ghetto-Sentinels until they go ahead and make sentinels available again to EVERYONE (not just ppl with 30gold to blow on a single Exo armor set).

This matters… b/c I see lots of fights, like, daily basis here, where Zerkers are going down for longer than a few seconds and it REALLY cuts into the Group DPS… this even includes Stuns & knockdowns which are easily countered with Stability that a 4th or 5th support player should be providing lots of on a regular basis. Even Alpha, I’ll see lots of Melee stacking where the entire group isn’t quite cone-cleaving that 1 guy who got crystal’d. Or the “Run for your Kitten” stages of some other encounters where up to 2 ppl keep going down because they’re not getting Protection + Swiftness + Regen shared with them.

These are important factors… Maybe not to you guys, maybe not yet… but… The datamining ANET has been obtaining from these Temporary dungeons (IE: their REAL motives here) is telling them all they really need to know to screw you guys and your constant Daily day to day Spreadsheet Wars2 right in the AC hole. They did it once before… remember? with Dhuum?? If your P.I. mesmer (that was me usually) got Ghosted, it became quite the slog, lol.

And most of all…. well… people keep begging them to add more circuitous crap like this anyway. Look at all the people who thought this latest Golemn Marry-go-Round was a breath of fresh air? I thought the whole dungeon was Dork Pork on Wheels but maybe that’s just me… Either way, BoonDur & a modest bit of MF% payed off for lots of ppl.

Why do I say Modest? B/c anything over a certain threshold puts you in D.R. faster.
That’s why Dungeon MF% should always be Hybrid stats… & Boon sharing is King.

IE: they musta meant to flag them as Account-Bound instead, right?

B/c “fixing” the alternative would be a lot more difficult for them I’d suspect.

Its no one to host it that is the problem…

The devs(and guru) were willing to do a monthly or bimonthly SOTG for both PvE & WvW but no one would host. Only sPvP found a willing host…

So, its not surprising they balance around sPvP when the PvE & WvW community are not interested…

Again… just like stated on Guru… this makes absolutely no sense. Especially the part about basing Balancing itself on that generalization. I’d also point out that PvE itself doesn’t have “wannabe Shoutcasters”. It has small tightknit guilds of folks who use Teamspeak every day and improvise communication-wise just fine. They don’t need to “Host” anything, they just need some of these Devs to agree to run some dungeons/temples with them in a team and record the Results. There’s no lack of personality or spontaneity in these players just b/c they run much more scripted encounters. Many of them are perfectly capable of carrying a conversation….

For starters, get MaskedParadigm in there… ppl would watch it just for the entertainment value.

yeah more of a Lore topic here than a future exposition opportunity.

We knew people really got around … even during the first guild wars. We knew the big schism then round about when Abaddon was ousted, that those Orrions expanded S.E. b/c there was several Temples in his name down there. Was also plenty evidence of settling in Tarnished Coast and mention of some Orrion commander secretly supporting those pirates which haunted the shards of orr in TC. It was hard to tell even in Gw1 b/c the Asurans swept in and so rapidly built right over the top of anything with mystical relevance there. But given the hints in the Viziers Tower as well… there was clearly a north VS. south thing going on and we’re still waiting for the full story on what part the Mursaat played in it (their HQ being just north of Rata Sum).

For all we know, Livia (and all her neighbors) was of direct Orrion lineage…
…probably also explaining her obsession with the staff

HotW P1 is actually quite fast. All three CM paths, well I didn’t time them but they’re just excruciating to play through.

Did Seraph path last week… 15 minutes. Not saying how though b/c it’s really stupid

But most of all I want to hear them recognize that there’s a “Sixth Race” in this game that doesn’t fit into any of the other 5 stereotypes or content types. It’s a race that behaves like an insectoid Over-Mind and once filled the cursed shores 12 hours out of the day … It persists… instantly constructing bivouacs from the trampled flesh of its own zerging mass of casualties. Thus it flows seamlessly from one DPS’ing path of least resistance to the next. Many speculate it would just do CoE next but those speculators over-estimate this race’s ability to fill more than 1 kind of gap at a time and COE is riddled with “mini-game” gaps and situational awareness tests that this race has not yet evolved above yet. Not to mention a single change to “Alpha’s” AI scripts (make him more like Lyssa-priest) would instantly obliterate any progress the 6th race made towards bridging that most crucial DPS gap…

So you want to design wvw to get away from zerging but due to the technical limitations of your servers and the effect they have on aoe limitations you can’t?

The right incentives would still trump this “limitation causing partial safety”.

Think about it anywhere besides a Front Door… where you’re only likely to have 10 players within a series of AOE positions at a time (b/c these aren’t Spartans… they’re still pubbers for the most part). 5 in 10 of them will be hit by the AOE’s. That means half of them could still die in the first vollies…. And 5 vollies could reduce an army of 100 to 50 and not everyone could be rallied in time. If that wasn’t how it worked, every fight would already be a Constant stalemate… But they’re not.

So if given objectives that are less of a lottery and more strategy or skill based, there will plenty of players heading to those objectives instead. This really isn’t supported yet b/c every borderland is the same…. hasn’t changed since launch… and are relatively flat, linear, & devoid of rewards compared to EB. But with the right ingenuity, drastically different approaches would start to appear and the whole format might even see populations increasing instead of slowly decreasing.

You’re also lying about PvP spectating…they had nothing to do with that being added, we had full spectating out the wazoo in Gw1. We could actually watch demos of matches that happened days earlier infact. It was better than Tivo

As for melee’ing Mai…. I seriously doubt it wasn’t intended. It’s the first thing that came to my mind when facing her the first time (Ranger). Downed once, that was it * /e yawwwn * … nothing bad happened … Biggest problem honestly was keeping myself from Wasp’ing backwards off the stupid cliff. (they really need to reduce our jump back on that stupid attack, it’s like instant Longjump Olympics world record distance and some crap… totally unnecessary)

AH HAHAHAH….. comparing even COE’s shortest runs to the skill floor of COF…

You almost had me for a second there… CoE’s not even a DPS test aside from Alpha…
It’s more like an arcade pack of minigames or something.. especially the golem parts.
Most of these kiddies couldn’t even get past the floor lazers… (how’s that for a skill floor?)
Just imagine if Anet also made it so you couldn’t even glitch Alpha??

There’s so much money being generated in CoF that nerfing it without also buffing gold rewards elsewhere in the game would crash every market on the TP.

I’m just not sure I agree with the OP when he claims Aether Dungeon was a good start. The only dangerous things to Zerkers in it really, are the Strikers who just so happen to be easily CC’d and guess which classes usually have plenty of that too??… the ones used for Zerking. …it doesn’t do crap to help the “team-split” themed classes such as Thieves, Rangers, and Engies that operate more on condition removal, crippling / stealth, & such…

Maybe I’m an outlier here but I thought Aether was still too easy :\

Using a Vanity pet is fine…. I do it all that all the time with my EB Timber Wolf…

The problem here was people choosing bear b/c they got in the habit of the Crutch.

^Yeah good point. S&R also looks “balanced for sPvP”. …and desperately needs a PVE split, particularly one that can rez NPCs! … b/c those are usually the guys we really need to get back up on their feet during smaller scale D.E.’s & storyline stuff.

I don’t think it needs a redesign…. (we just need Barrage unnerfed in PvE so we can actually kill Burrows and other key objectives once again).

If we need a new bow for long range, it should be a new weapon like a mini Ballista (that probably Necros … and … Thiefs I guess?? …would also benefit from… b/c they also need a long range option along with Guardians). For us specifically, It could even include a new mechanic, such as having the #5 skill (on a 3 second cooldown) camouflage & put us into a Manual mouse-based Aiming mode that doubled the damage or Condition durations we inflict with its skill much like Archer’s Signet used to. But with a big downside like also being rooted for 2 seconds everytime…

I’ve been privately mentoring a few myself. One I even created a complete Exotic survival set for yesterday with extra mats I had lying around. I’m also always available to help aspiring ones learn most Dungeon paths including Arah & AC (COF/FOTM exempted… I don’t “meta farm” or gold-grind, EVER).

I also know how to record/edit Videos proficiently if needed… (but I’d rather not, I’m not here to make a spectacle of myself or get views… all I tend to really care about when it comes to making videos, is to point out hackers, and record bugs usually).

But if there’s any other ideas you had in mind, then plz go into specifics on this…

But we’re not in the same boat…

  • Some are lamenting the changes we keep getting because the damage or utility reward for better players who micro’d all their resources properly were nerfed Hard and unfairly when compared to other classes.
  • Others are lamenting the changes because their cruise-control facerolling playstyles also got nerfed by the unnecessary sPvP changes. (this includes some warriors as well!…so it’s not just n00b rangers).

I’m firmly a middle of the road type person, borderline Socialist & Altruist almost.
But the reasons for the infighting here are very justified b/c the various futures everyone here envisions for ranger are NOT all based on merit, forethought, or Logic. There’s too much emotion and bad habits from other less skillful games muddying up this ongoing discussion. IOW: a lot of opinions would simply result in an unending cycle or more buffs that only had to be changed or nerfed again down the road once they created horribly degenerate metas

It’s not a problem if guard was designed to spam natures voice. Which I don’t think it was.

are you so concerned about pet positioning in order to keep it alive you would use a utility. You shouldn’t have to. An f1 toggle between guard and attack would do better. Pet is invulnerable in guard mode. Effectively this allows your pet to dodge but a cool down would be needed to prevent abuse. 2 seconds maybe??

They’ll never do that b/c it would still be exploitable for certain Dungeon encounters and WvW griefing. Not to mention that “dodge” has never actually meant “invulnerable” for ANY of us… all that dodge does is remove your character’s contact from the ground which nullifies ground based damage. It does NOT allow you to avoid all projectile collisions or stop certain (especially multipacket) Cleaves & AOE’s.

And for those of us who like to Melee a boss… your method just needlessly complicates things for us in ways that GoTo commands & “flagging” have always been superior and were actually a standard-bearer in being a “Tank” in GW1 with a pure Hero party. (as long your stupid monks weren’t always running up to heal you too soon and draw off aggro by accident… which is why you usually always gave them Toggles instead of heals).

I find the “new content” particularly tedious for a Ranger.
The revolving Force-Walls in AetherRetreat was only 1 example.

The increase in Jump Puzzles & popup mobs where we also have to constantly switch pets from passive to aggressive is also a particularly annoying trend. I’m sure we’ll see even more examples in the coming months… (along with even more content-bias against rangers once “rewards” are rebalanced around early fall)

That’s a good point. I forgot about that, but I think stow pet should provide this functionality rather than a utility. I don’t think I should need a utility to make a pet stay.

Well if we’re going down that road… then F3 needs to be the New GO—>TO function first an foremost on the first press, while pushing it Twice could just be its old “heel” function…

Go To is very very important, especially in dungeons or anytime you want to melee a 1-hitting Boss yourself for real DPS, without your pet getting too close to it. (IE: use a decent debuffing or DPS’ing ranged pet instead)

The skill is being used to spam natures voice which is a design flaw. NV should be activated through a variety of shouts with a shout build if you want to use it.

Why is this a problem FOR YOU?

Do you have difficulty doing it properly while still having your pet keep up and remain responsive? It’s only a real problem when you need to hold aggro off a weaker NPC (like Hodgins) and the pets constant recloaking resets their aggros…

I’ll also votekick other rangers in teams when I see them only using Bear/Wrongbow
This doesn’t make me an elitist. The OP is right, It’s been almost a year now…. training wheels should have been off months ago…. This isn’t soccer.

Bear is only for people who’s keyboards didn’t come with an F3 button and some fluke in their copy of GW2 in Options wouldn’t allow them to remap to another key.

Can anyone tell me where the ranger is better than the other classes?

well it used to be best at solo MF% fine mat farming… (esp underwater for scales). Mainly b/c you could max out on MF% gear yet not be affected by your gear choice for obvious reasons. But that also changed a bit last week. And 2 other classes now seem to be taking that title instead…. Wonder if that means this was partially an Anti-botting nerf too? lulz…

Easiest != Best. … it all hinges on scale

Can most rangers get that Skillpoint inside the Maze in Cursed Shores???
Can most rangers beat a Dredge Mining suit Veteran?
When was the last time you saw one solo the Metrica Fire Ele?
Can most rangers ever hope to solo any Event that involves a Champion, even in the Beginner zones? …much less any of the ones in mid-zones or higher

(Mine does all the time)… but most people just faceplant those instantly on their own rangers b/c the “Bear” doesn’t even do enough DPS to keep up with those mobs’ natural Regen…. nor does their pathetic LB or stupidly short ranged Shortbow anymore.

And soloing Lupicus?? It was well establised even BEFORE rangers got nerfed again that it was the slowest possible biggest PITA class to ever solo him on, which also rules out that “easy” part that so many people think of when they think of rangers.

It needs a lot more than that to be “Competitive”.
Aso be very careful with the word “E sport”.

League of Legends is a top E sport but everyone knows that HON & Dota2 are where for the most part, real Skilled people go to play instead… Saying otherwise is like telling people you were a PvP king in Starcraft because you won 5000 games of BGH, or 500 cumulative ones on temple ladder (by smurfing constantly) … when the really skilled players were all in a smaller community playing Total Annihilation together or some other game that required real strategy instead. You hear the same crap these days from all the COD kids too who think they’re super awesome but then rage quit instantly in any other FPS that actually requires thought & reading one’s opponent…

They’re hiding from this question

They knew from the beginning that all us GW1 vets were expecting lots of Skill splitting from Day one because that’s what they promised us on the Guru Forums when the topic came up there years ago. And it’s not just what was promised, it’s also what was consistently DELIVERED in Gw1 as well…. by an even smaller “balancing” team than the one they have now.

Why are they hiding from this Topic?
Why have they turned their backs on their own History and us as well?
Why focus balance on PvP so much when the Mists continue to be Ghost Towns???

Hint: it goes to the philosophical core of why they departed from Blizzard in the first place. ….except the current equation has somehow gone very Awry from that original purpose. It’s probably even causing stress between their own creators when it comes to certain encounters and datamining. But that one department gets to keep moving in that direction all they want so long as gem sales keep the stockholder pressure off of them…

Relax

The really cool thing about GW2 is that you don’t have to finish all the content to “progress”. No pressure, no guilt – just do what you enjoy doing, go for the stuff you want, play what you want to play and have fun

That used to be how it was…. mainly b/c we could always come back and do it later.
(even really out-of-the-way stuff like Aurora Glades b/c eventually it’d be the Zaishen Daily and after enough tries you’d find some ppl who weren’t DeeduhDees)

If the only way to replay this content though is through Fractals?? ….which Randomly picks the next flavor of dungeon you get put into every time??? … then screw that noise b/c this is not what people want and it’s been made pretty clear to Anet ever since they first introduced this awful awful awful Infusion system.
