I really enjoy WvW but I hate the Obsidian Sanctum, all the more so when you get packs of players camping the choke-points. There are a couple of people in my guild who are very reluctant to try WvW because they think it’s all like that accursed jumping puzzle.
That’s a really good point too. I never got Rage-quit mad in WvW, not even once… until one day I tried the JP there. heheh… WvW itself is kinda … a little boring, definitely repetitive, & often uneventful (except for the few rare times you get 2 small elite teams of equal numbers fighting over a really important tower or camp). The JP’s there do not reflect that in any way and should really be redesigned to truly convey the structure of WvW better. They’re interesting as far as JP’s go I guess, when there’s no opposition, but they’re just NOT built to handle proper PvP tactics.
Did you check the map?? Everytime I’ve had to stand there more than a minute, it was because there were other people still falling off the track and only halfway done.
A better idea at that point would just be to Ladder-Split it. Send everyone who finished in the first 5 minutes to a matchup with others who did the same, Tourney style. Then leave the Beer Leaguers to limp their way there in the 8-10 minutes it usually takes them… (might end all the whining about the First-Place achievement too)
Not to mention that usually when you start the first sprint, the game joins you to a game already in progress, so if the timer is still going it’s probably because one or more players started the race as you’re finishing it.
Right, so there the confirmation too just below yours as well.
I’m really surprised we can join ones in progress in the first place TBH.
Not saying it’s clunky or anything… just a smidge awkward.
Oh Well! …I already got first and the only thing left to do is get Crowd Favorite now and joining a race in progress makes that easier … for me atleast. I feel bad for the people who have to wait longer though!
This thread’s like a bad boomerang.
They just need to Test the Burrows every patch… b/c sometimes they manage to break on a regular basis to where even Barrage & Hammer symbol auto ain’t hittin ’em
…The hatchlings… unfortunately, you really should have a Reflect for. I honestly don’t see a lot of other options there. Guards and Mesmers aren’t the only ones either. Rangers can reflect those too. I do it every run. Yeah that’s not really fair to the rest of the classes and still means stacking up, but once they’re dead you don’t have to stay stacked to kill Queen. She’s easy enough with a Balanced Team (crazy…I know… but they exist)
(edited by ilr.9675)
^ Well that’s pretty Depressing… ^ And begs the question of why we as Rangers don’t get Twice as many Might & Fury shouts/traits?? IE: we’d need that many just to cover what our pets taking up
I’m going ignore the shrieking voice in the back of my brain who obviously knows better, and go ahead and revive this temporarily to make the following humble Request…
I’d REALLY like to just see how my own Ranger performs in a standard Arah Path … & then hopefully Path 4 too if I can convince/bribe 3-4 people here to agree to it. *(I can pull atleast 1 person from my Guild as well to fill in if needed). …b/c really, that’s the better DPS test, not some COF kiddy path for test tube builds.
It’s basically a Paraway/Regen support build. …think standard Bogs farming/runner setup… mostly Melee weaps for DPS :p …don’t need a speed clear party, just folks like SkyChef or others from the old December/January crew who got’er’done even when Path1 was totally bugged. Those guys knew my Guardian never failed it. So I’m asking like minded folks to volunteer for a quick test of this. It would be greatly appreciated for educational purposes & ranger confidence in general.
Any Volunteers please?
Pretty bored with the game, u can count me in for kittens and giggles
No worries… just did it. Stacked on Lupi melee style. EZPZ the second try :p
Not happy with Ranger DPS still… but wasn’t exactly carried either. (downed once…
…would call that better than expected) Thx for stepping up tho!

-Don’t knock your golem into someone else, mmmkay
no deal
LOL
…But on a serious note… I only ever saw my Guild struggle with the First Mobs when you walk in the door. A bunch of glass cannons seem perfectly capable of sweeping through every single path without consequence when they stack on Alpha and nothing too weird or unexpected happens during it. I honestly think learning the Lasers will be your biggest time sink, haha.
The whole Dungeon could use an Overhaul in the Boss mechanics and AI algorithms IMHO b/c it’s nothing but DPS test after DPS test with a little bit of “Count to 1-1/2 when you see a red circle, then push forward & dodge key”

(only with the Mes reflect stacking cheese du jor)He was asking of support ranger ideas. Not of GL specific fighting. No, I would not run those against GL. That’s just a bad idea.
Aight… where WOULD you run them then? Against the wizard who’s super long lasting AOE’s are guaranteed to vaporize them? Crusher who’s guaranteed to aim in their direction eventually? the Wraith Rally where any1 who stops moving in figure 8’s eventually gets 100-hand slapped to death? Or maybe the longer paths where you’re just running 24/7? Why? As distractions that buy 1 extra second after they’re all one-shot?…if you’re running right and dodging enough you don’t even need distractions.
Details are required here… or atleast example playstyles other classes have success with
Thanks for the answers so far!
@irl: I was just referencing when I saw a ranger do really well. Arah is crazy enough that I think I will stick to one of my heavies. None the less, good advice. I think I will use that karka queen/wind rider test sometime!
right on, Good luck with it! I mean like I said, do your OWN experiments first. You might find something that works better than what I’ve got! …and if it can survive their crazy ranged DPS, then it can probably stand up to Lupi, Risen Mesmers, & Dead-eyes too….
(edited by ilr.9675)
I think it just puts “Unparalleled Archer” in it’s place where it belongs.
My Warrior was an “Unparalleled Archer” in GW1 simply b/c 16 Strength + CrackedArmor + Berserker stance Hornbow = LOL,WUTS HM Armor??
It still did a LOT LESS damage in every other part of the game when compared to CritScythe cheese. (hence Scythe crits eventually getting nerfed along with BUH & Scan, haha). “Unparalleled Archer” has always been one of those cheap phrases for them. The only place it had any significance at all was in Turret Meta until they even nerfed the Skill-Shots (conditional ints/spike). So basically…. Nothing is sacred with them.
The only difference then…. was that there was actually SKILL SPLITS for PvE to those INT/Spike skills which we’re still waiting on here. (if I manage to interrupt a Champ Wraith?? SERIOUSLY? I should be doing 20K bonus damage , hahahaha … and that’s just for the A.I. aggro management so he knows who the REAL threat is and then follows me away from the Zerg where I need him to be)

Arah? Seriously?? … umm oh jeez. I’d really look for a Thief guide on it first TBH, then try to come up with your own hybrid out of that. Your #1 focus is just going to be movement/endurance & running support in general & hopefully some condition removal on top. And the more time you can spend in Melee without being downed, obviously the better (with most fights anyway, to the exception of Simin where changing ALL your Traits and even bringing a second set of gear maybe be necessary).
I can try bringing mine into some Arah EXP and let ya know how it went…. (but I’d rather not infringe like that on 4 strangers unless it was in the name of science …I’m pretty sure they’d MUCH rather only ever see my Guardian in these things).
I mean I could see it being good on Path1… but I really question its overall viability in Paths2 & 4… I think a good way to pretest it, Honestly… without getting into a team first?… y’know when Karka Queen comes up, and that big group of Wind Riders with insane ranged damage spam spawns about halfway in?… Yeah aggro as many of them as you can and see how long you can stay alive. Bonus points if you can run right through them like I’ve done and pull them AWAY from the Zerg without being completely downed then defeated… (the premise here ironically, is having your boons stripped)

In fact, many of us choose to be in denial that they are.
Careful…. most of the Forum is currently in that Phase right now. (well the ones who haven’t quit already). they do it a little out of order here though (like everything they do) …and actually started with Bargaining, then —> Depression, --> Anger, —> and now Denial.
…hence all the threads about chasing the next “BIG DAMAGE #” that happens maybe once every 60 seconds when their signets & elites all line up together. (meanwhile they’re being of very little use to their team the other 52 seconds).
The folks who’ve already been to the Top of the Mountain have told them a dozen times now: “Roll a Guardian / Warrior before you talk about Damage #’s”. But if they’re not going to listen to those guys then there’s no way they’ll listen to some weird Artsy Emo post about it
(edited by ilr.9675)
It’s crap either way and will never be useful against Guardians
Spotter + GS or Whirling just leaves it in the dust on raw DPS even in Orr Zerg.
It needs to be:
- Rethought
- Redesigned
- Compressed
- and most important of all: Skill Split for PvE/WvW
PS: a Big NOOOOOO to having it refresh on any kind of Crits. Crit Builds are already getting too FOTM’y as it is and many other profs will always be way ahead of us already in that race b/c they don’t have to sacrifice as much to get theirs. Why not try basing it on everytime you apply or remove a condition instead? Or every time you successfully evade an Attack? THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX PEOPLE. Otherwise this class will suck forever

Here’s someone who’s not thinking with portals…
+1… No reason for a Level Requirement on these consumables. We should be able to craft them on our whichever lower level Alts we’ve dedicated to that Discipline. The stupid Crystal Charging thing is already enough hoops to jump through as it is.

I have no problem with this game so I’d say everything works as it should. Maybe it’s ur hamster pc?
edit: I don’t want to troll, mind you.
I’m on a Hamster wheel PC. And I take offense to your Trolling
…plus I eventually got 1st place too. The Latency is probably server side, or somewhere in between. I see it too and it’s definitely NOT client side b/c a lot of times I heard the jump activate but gain no vert at the edge of the platform.
It’s a collision detection netcoding issue too IMHO… but nowhere near as bad as the ones in Planetside or a few other MMO’s I’ve seen
I believe these are typically referred to as Overlays… and are handled through DirectX. They’re basically a way to put a Texture over the top of a Model by painting it on the same way RayTrace would put lighting on it. To do it manually, their team would have to individually bake every single texture into a dozen extra models and environment props if I’m not mistaken… Which would probably then just eat into your also limited amount of memory while also promoting more “junk” into higher tiers in your cache/CPU also causing it to lag as well. (not to mention the prefetching)
Basically… I don’t think there’s any other way to do this efficiently without enabling all the other extra eye candy you DON’T want

But having some people that didn’t try PvP yet get a hand at it and find they have fun doing it will.
News Flash. That’s not how PvP works.
You never recruit most players into PvP by throwing them to the Wolves.
Every person I met… myself included… who learned to enjoy PvP and was good at it, did so either back in the Early days when the ONLY people you could play against were your Friends over LAN… or were later introduced to it by those same people by being Tutored or lead through it in some kind of Social manner. …the kids who aren’t… well… go play call of duty I guess and just listen to them in the headphones …if you dare. That’s exactly what happens when “PvPers are raised Feral” instead of brought into it in a friendly or informed manner.
Most only complete the achievements because they are “completionists” – that’s why a lot of people for example are complaining about achievements being in WvW(or ultrahard dungeons).
Wouldn’t they only be… “wannabe completionists” then?
…A real completionist … a real Achiever…
I repeat… a real Achiever…
…already has either the personal skills or the man-power to get it one way or another.
Some of them have an alliance of 20 people online, ready to storm in and take the place by force if they have to…
I hate to keep playing both sides of the fence in this debate, but people need to stop contradicting simple definitions so much.
.
Hell, I just got first in this silly race and I’m a huge under-achiever. A dozen tries is all it took and just being patient (waiting for the ringers to leave). I also run those “hard dungeons” out of sheer boredom or just being randomly invited by ppl who mistake me for being some kind of achiever b/c I have above average reflexes?? (I can’t think of any other reason I was being drug along for Hardmode Dungeons in Gw1… I sure didn’t sign up for them). If I can do it, I have no clue then why these self-appointed Achievers can’t.
(edited by ilr.9675)
Serious question. I want to know.
Obviously they’re more than happy to take all the Silk we can possibly trade them to mend their Sails. And the massive amounts of silk in our part of the world is explained of course by all the oversized worms everywhere. And they use leather of course for binding it all together and making stylish aviator’s caps out of the rest.
But where are they getting all this Bamboo from? And wouldn’t that just be a huge continuity breach in all the lore we’ve been told about losing all contact with …. you know …. (that other place I don’t want to mention b/c ppl make a realy big deal about it)
right @ 2:27….
why do so many people take that lower route?
Is there a reason not to just grab that sun crystal to the left and Launch-roll the entire strip? (I’ll record it if anyone’s not clear on how it works)
and 50 points are a bad joke…
i mean 5 points are ok, but how can people get that points?
right! never! or it take ages…
You have that backwards.
Take a good look at how little time it takes just to get 25. Look at some of the latest Bazaar Achievements. Many of them are over 20 points and take much less than an hour to get.
Every HOM point over the first 5 or 6… literally took Days… each. Some took years.
(especially for ppl who got Ascalonion defenders in the early days, or Drunkard)
What reward was their in Guild Wars 1 for doing the HoM? Wife and I did the 30/50 for the skins (couldn’t care less about titles) but I did not get a reward in Guild Wars 1. The HoM was put there (pretty much EotN was put there) to bridge the gap between Gw1 to GW2, and so us old players that started GW1 on day one can carry on with our game.
Quoting for Truth.
Some very very very vocal minorities in this Forum want all of us to believe that HOM was only achievements that started and should have stayed in a in a “different” game. But those people are astroturfing every thread about it, and directly contradicting the entire Reason that Anet added the HOM. This is the truth, we got nothing out of these efforts in GW1. From the very beginning of 2009, it was only ever about carrying over our achievements from that game to this one. That’s Anet’s own words on it.
People who don’t like that… well… dunno what to tell them, except that maybe they should have done more research before buying this game, huh? I mean if they’re so hardcore about achievements, you’d think they would have read a little about past achievements to know what they were gettting themselves into, right?
(edited by ilr.9675)
If you can’t get the kite, you can’t get it. Simple as that. This isn’t a freebie. You gotta work for it.
I sincerely hope no one tells you this when you really need something you don’t have in real life.
I suspect Randroids and people with the same kind of mentality actually have a lower propensity to thrive in a healthy society.
I agree with his statement. People today are too entitled. A lot of them remind me of spoiled children. Today’s motto seems to be: If at first you don’t succeed, whine about it until someone makes it easier for you.
Well on the same token… the Campers do indeed have it too easy. Any sPvP map or Fortress in WvW that only had 1 possible way of entering it, and no means of sieging it, would have Whine after Whine thrown at it by the very people who tend to defend the Ayn Randish jingoism above. Because…. It’s not competitive spirit. It’s a death trap to make a bunch of bads feel like they’re good at bunkering when in reality their fudge would get pushed in so darn hard in any Balanced map that had multiple ways to assault it. So yes… they’re the hypocrites and wellfare hogs here b/c they’re expecting just keep getting tons of free kills without working for it
since this content is for everyone and missing out on a title really sucks if there’s no chance to get it back later :<
All that does is cheapen the value of that title. Just like legendary weapons and T3 armour isn’t that prestigious anymore, because it probably just means that the person spent hours upon hours farming CoF P1. Exploiting, fixing races, endless QQ about WvW’s inclusion in the Living World achievement section, all that is doing is killing the prestige from these things. There are already plenty of participation rewards out there.
Well to be fair, those things were gonna have cheapen value anyway.
T3 you can just buy, just do CoF runs and viola.
Legendaries are endgame, so eventually most will go for them. Heck, I’ve almost got one now! lol
No what cheapens it is the Fact that Anet designed it cheapened on purpose.
First it’s only worth 10 AP. You get more than twice that just collecting the stupid crystals on the race course itself. Add to that the randomness of it and Latency. Even spamming grounded, there will be a few times where you just fly off the course for no reason at all (usually lag or a skill not activating when or on-who it should-have). And most of all… it’s a MINIGAME for kittens sakes. It’s supposed to be Trivial. The people who stay in it for hours on end just to deny other first, are really only trolling themselves. Even camping WvW puzzles has a bigger impact on the math (and DubVee rankings sometimes too)
..mainly b/c there’s no where else to go… not without transfering servers, lol.
In sprint, players can just queue for a different instance to avoid griefers and match rigging (including RR-day care-bearing) alike.
(edited by ilr.9675)
oh look its this thread again.
:\
Can’t you guys just keep it in one place for a change?
I see all this crap about how everything’s a faceroll, BRB AFK autoattacking, and Anet’s bad at dungeons etc.. etc.. But where’s all threads talking about the mechanics that shake up the damage equations? Just not popular? Afraid to actually admit there’s some that DO?
The Original Poster … like most people, has probably just witnessed too many Ranger players who couldn’t overcome their own bad Design and Handicaps. It’s just that simple I think.
I have the same prejudice against Bronies/Reddit. Their quality of art & logic & humor (& Gaming Skills) in general that is presented most often just falls flat compared to so many other more developed sub genres ranging from horror to heavy metal (the zine artists, not the music .. which obviously inspired Anet Artists as well!) to … well.. even 4chan sadly. It’s not really their fault, they’re just drawing from a “Well” that is too Narrow and still in the Prototyping stage after years of effort.
If the Ranger’s “Well”… was anymore narrow, you couldn’t drop a golf ball down it
(edited by ilr.9675)
(disclaimer: only addressing the rehetorical subject line… will comment on the specifics once the Video is actually made and available for review)
Struggle? Yes….
“Carry” Pugs at the same time? Yes…
It’s all in your perspective I guess? …the Dungeon community has this awful habit of defining “Carrying” by who did the most DPS, while never admitting that there’s LOTS of times when they’re getting Downed b/c no one ever dodges every single big hit 100% of the time. They don’t measure things by how hassle-free they are, or how little downtime you had in putting together a Sturdy group that basically got More Tokens with less standing around. They’re only interested in measuring SpreadSheets usually.
Saw this happen in real time in an AC Pug. …some minmaxxed Ele (who’s name I remember & started with Sal___, but I won’t finish here) was kittening everyone else out for not killing Burrows fast enough after this update that has them being “OBSTRUCTED!” again (lovely bug…). …then died anyway even though I was granting him Perma Swiftness & Regen. Ragequit instantly and no doubt still blames all of us (especially me, the Ranger) for it. ….as with most things… the vocal screeching minority, is often the least capable of living up to their own ideals. And they’ll remain in that fantasy world by blaming everyone else first.
Ranger can help with some tougher dungeons that other classes struggle with.
The 1st problem…. is that the level of skill involved, doesn’t match the Reward. Guardian is always, always, always better. No exception. The other problem is that the “skill” involved, isn’t even the same GAME that every other class is playing. We’re basically fighting our own A.I. and UI and everything else while everyone else gets to just …. y’know… FIGHT THE MOBS INSTEAD. (well except Engineers… they have similar isues too).
.
As a Guildwars Class?? …after 8 years now of Guildwars’ing?? No…
it doesn’t feel like a true Guild Wars Class. It definitely struggles
…always coming up a hair short of total victory. There’s no room for further improvement in PvE. We need key-bindable Trait+Pet Templates,, and AI scripting powertools if we’re ever going to customize our way out of this performance Deficiet

^ that is kittening hilarious^
maybe a WH offhand and a moa pet for constant fury), then say so in the description. If I’d ever see a post ‘meelee ranger with healing spring lfg’ I’d immediately invite him.
I use it all the time, especially for Temple support, but I find Spring isn’t actually our best Support tool… there’s ways to cheese certain encounters and do even more Regen & Condition removal more often with alternate sets of Gear & Traits.
I think the biggest thing holding us back there honestly, is the complete lack of “Compression” in our Traits and the longer Swapping time of our Pets in Dungeons. ….This is something being said time and again, that Pets just plain old need more UP TIME in dungeons and more support roles in general. More survival only turns them into a stupid Crutch that Zerkers would use for the Group’s “tank”. But we definitely could change some bad reputations here with a lot more Skill/Trait Compression & gear that actually confers its bonuses over to the Pets as well… (imagine Monk or Scholar or Pack runes… or a whole new set that stacks up Fury/Prec).

I’m Also extremely disappointed by the fact that Rangers can’t use Hammers.
That was probably the funniest Meta to ever exist in GW1. It wasn’t good damage, it wasn’t even the best CC. It was just the most creative use of Adrenaline Buffs
Engineers should have access to Hammer as well. Not all Engineers are nerds with pop guns, some of them back in the day Built the nation’s Railroads with their own two hands.

I think this needs to be a permanent addition to the game that’s made a random daily just so lulz like this thread can be a weekly occurance. This is their best minigame yet just for the numbers of ways people can screw over others (and themselves!). It’s only missing one thing still…
Agree with Grim also, Add an sPvP version so the Tryhards will only have themselves to blame when everything doesn’t go their way and wrecks their FINAL DESTINATION

Hilarious Video!
Yeah I sensed a lot of buggyness in that particular skill (especially from trial & error on a very similar platform in the Sprint Race!!) so I just kept running past that part and then used Sun Sprint off the Cliff ABOVE that particular Crystal. …landed right on it the first try and was like “Awwww Yeah so Pro!” … (until I realized it was about 5 feet too short for the FULL distance that a Sun Sprint usually takes you and I should have pressed 2 again )
Nobles aren’t the problem. I have ways of redirecting their AI.
I’m talking Plague Carriers and how there seems to be more than 0 or 1 of them now since this Patch. I counted 3 or 4 yesterday. I’ll record it today if my FPS doesn’t fall to pieces attempting it…

And this discrimination is easily remedied if you just roll a warrior or mesmer.
….Totally putting this in my signature, and quoting you.
Unless you are serious? Wait… this is a troll, right?
Sadly no…. Colesy is actually one of those people who also claims most in PvE, dungeon pros included, avoid WvW “B/c they’re bad at PvP” or some hilarious elitist-wannabe rhetoric. ….Remember this is the same guy who said any guard who ever uses a Scepter or Staff for anything was a n00b, then had to immediately retract his opinion b/c it started making him look like a bigger n00b. It’s best to just avoid this whole tangent entirely and stay on topic IMHO.
Forming your own group for a Dungeon doesn’t ALWAYS work. I’ve tried it here and there and most of the time, using /Join instead was always faster or atleast less anxiety-inducing. This is really an issue where you also need friends or a guild you can count on to start the “filling” so you can just post “LFM” instead of “LFG” on lfg.com….. just to get rolling faster.
“For the achievement, so I can get skins and gear”.
This is a Falsehood. There are NO skins that are locked directly behind any JP achievements where the ONLY way to get those skins / minis … is to do the JP’s. People who believe that either haven’t researched them properly, or are lying just to try and get the Titles faster by having someone else do the hard parts for them.
The Sky Pirate jumping puzzle for instance, didn’t have any Achievement linked to the Goggle Dive at the top but that’s where most of the Portal Begging occurred. Meanwhile there was 14 different ways to get all the other Achievements…. most of the Aether Caches infact weren’t even at the end of “jumping” puzzles. They were actually at the end of Exploration puzzles where all you had to do was find the Entrance to the puzzle…
Skills rooting us is mostly acceptable in PvE where most mobs aren’t going to be Kiting us anyway. Plus some of them could become Overpowered in WvW if they DID allow their attacks while moving at full swiftness speed. My biggest problem with the Racial skills however is that they don’t provide STABILITY when they definitely definitely should always provide it on every single Racial Elite to us, or w/e we summoned.
And the Forms…. especially… need to function more like Toggles with short Cooldowns. They saw the light eventually in Gw1 with forms when it came to this method of balancing them (they originally disabled for 120 second :p)… Now they just need to do a similar thing in GW2. Especially in Towns. If I want to stand around Hoelbrak in Perma Were-Form for Lulz-RP’ing , I should be allowed to do that…
They were designed to be weaker than profession skills, but able to fill in small niches that some professions are lacking. Such as the human condition removal skill for professions lacking in that area.
This still runs directly Counter to what Anet was saying about them leading up to its Release though. They were very specific that they DIDN’T WANT any classes feeling like that had to have a specific Race for those Racial skills to minmax their Profession Niche. But that’s what happens anyway with some of them b/c they know that taking the race they might really want, will only make them even WEAKER. Try Norn Ranger sometime if you don’t believe it… The elites remove 40% of your DPS by disabling your Pet which also takes away your 2 only Sources of Stability (IE: 1 trait in survival that transfers the KD to your pet, and ROA of course as well). It also disables your Utilities which takes away your Signets of Hunt/Wild/Stone/Renewal that the vast vast VAST majority of rangers depend on in PvE.

I never was into wvw or similar stuff in other mmo´s. In GW2 I only went in there to get map completion first and then my 500 badges for my gift of battle. After spending more time in wvw, I started liking it and now play wvw more than 60% of my time.
But when I started out, wvw wasnt as competitive as it is right now. These days its harder for new players to get a foothold in wvw without being screamed at for beginners faults.
I think the wvw community can do alot more to make new players feel welcome and important. For example, experienced commanders can offer weekly training events where you take 10 new players to a borderland and do the breakout event. If you focus on explaining alot instead of rushing to the next objective, they will have a way more exciting first experience and might stick around.
A big plus-ONE to this. ….ALL of the WvW players in this thread,
who keep Writing off PvE’ers, NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS
When I quit this game (b/c the WvW was so disappointing) and went and played Planetside2 instead… one of the Outfits I joined did this sort of activity on a regular basis and it probably sounds like a really trivial thing, but it’s amazing what a difference it can make if you can say the right things that get new players to become part of it and gain the confidence they desperately need to actually learn from their mistakes instead of getting frustrated and overwhelmed. Granted, you need really strong or atleast really charismatic leadership to pull it off… but “likable personalities” has always been what keeps people actually playing MMO’s together. Therefore it’s just as much up to the Community also to improve WvW (and maybe even find a way to CHANGE THE META AWAY FROM ZERGING / “winning at all costs” somehow … possibly with Tac-Ops nights or coordinated efforts to balance out populations better and keep Griefers out of the Jump Puzzles too)
I actually got Banned from Guru by their Tryhard GvG moderators for pointing this sort of super obvious thing out back when GvG itself was Floundering and they all insisted it was b/c it was something Anet wasn’t doing, or constantly telling everyone else in the community they’re baddy-n00bs who HAVE to accept the GvG Meta as it was intended by the Elite players. Well they were wrong about Anet there, b/c Anet was still making changes to Skills every 3 months then. And it clearly wasn’t the new players’ faults either. Eventually those mods lost their positions of power as well and history has judged all of them for their Hubris. GvG finally started making gains once again when community-level efforts were made to make it, AND THE META, more casual again & inviting to new players and skilled PvE’ers alike. Unfortunately, It just came too late for it to matter enough b/c by then, there was only 3 months left before GW2 went to Beta Events :p

Oh kitten Well…
The only ppl who can even capitalize on it are hybrid classes anyway, your LH support Ele’s, . ….and Crit Guardian; a contradiction in terms that for some reason can solo dungeons but only b/c they’ve gotten the least nerfs of any class since this game started … hence why it’s still my “Main”. But that doesn’t mean I’m gonna waste this many resources to build a suit that will probably be 1-upped by Ascended Gear in less than a year anyway…
I don’t even have Armor Smithing! Ain’t nobody got time for dat!

…to get you excited about WvW?
What would have to change/be added into the game to make it more appealing to those who primarily farm PvE events and dungeons?
Just curious about some of your responses.
I bought this game first & foremost for the promise of WvW.
….then ended up doing PvE all the time instead just like in Gw1
Infact I think I actually spent more time in F.A. & A.B. in GW1 (and enjoyed it more too!). Hell even Costume brawl was more fun than I found WvW to be. I’ll be completely honest here… It’s not even about the rewards or Time Vs. Reward… I think certain dungeons just change things up more and require atleast a bit more skill. WvW is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS a numbers game. (unless you’re fighting a ton of squishy lowbies who are just attempting to power level themselves in WvW).
I can imagine there’s a tendency among WvW’ers to believe these core PvE’ers ran back to PvE with their tails between their legs b/c they got roughed up in WvW. But I’m saying as someone who’s been PvP’ing in RPG’s since Diablo1 ? …. It’s probably the opposite. … I tend to just roflstomp most ppl in WvW. Plus there’s no Pee-Vee-Dooring when it comes to the Temples in Orr. There’s also no culling gimmick thieves & BS mesmers in COE & Arah. … No ballistas through doors in A.C.
It would be nice to think that WvW provides better “A.I.” … but right now it’s REALLY hard to tell because the Core issue… the reason it’s so … NOT what Anet promised us open-world PvP’ers … is the way it “flows”. The meta game just has no real incentives besides Zerg tactics. And It doesn’t actually impact the rest of our PvE world in any way. So you’ve got the perfect storm here, of No Risk, and no … Significance! (I’m not saying reward… a good PvP Meta is it’s OWN reward).
It’s always been an issue – and ppl playing for APs were talking about it before between themselves. I can easily count on someone missing 2 days while I won’t. Counting on 50 days is really not the same, trust me.
wow you’re taking this really hard. Maybe go outside? Take walks more often?
I find it always helped me when I started thinking about things like my KDR & accuray stats too much in FPS’s…
^ okay but…. How come when I opened mine, I got a bunch of SOULBOUND weapons telling me “Type unusuable by your Profession” ? ….what was the point exactly?
but 500 achievement points seems a lot to be rewarded for gaining achievements that aren’t even in this game.
Care to link us your HOM score then if you think it’s too easy?
http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=welcomeThere it is, don’t be shy!
It’s not about whether it’s easy or not… it’s not this game. End of story.
You don’t get to tell us when it’s the End of Story….
…Mainly b/c this is Guildwars Utopia retitled and they stopped updating the BETTER previous chapters to bring this expansion that lets ppl jump and dodge and farm COF again basically.
We get to keep our Achievement points, End of Story

yeah I got a bunch the night before because the exchange rate was so much better than Zhaitaffies (plus I want to save all my Zhai’s for more cheap food!). Too bad the Zypher boxes are a waste of resources :\ …so don’t expect Candy Corn to get used up anytime soon, it’ll be around for Years to come…

Wondering if it even matters now??
As soon as they were introduced, I saw these Celestial recipes dropping like rocks. I’ll be shocked if anyone actually made a profit off them. ….and as another poster already pointed out…. if only dealing with the Mats themselves in “Volume”? … Waste of time when there’s so many other things worth 100x that giving the same markup margins…
