the problem:
in pve, its faster/better to aoe everything. our weapon sets have slow line aoes, not circles. therefore our aoe is situational. our kits have circle/cone aoes.
in pvp, tool kit is overloaded on utility, and not taking it is usually just hurting yourself.
they had to buff turrets a lot to make them competitive with kits.. and they still have little use in dungeons and pve zergs. theyre only viable in small fights, when the other person (people) is thinking more about you than your turrets.
gadgets and elixirs dont do enough compared to kits either to want a full 4 utilities dedicated to them when even just 1 slot for a kit would make your build sooooooo much better.

crests are rare drops from 70-80 stuff. i usually get them from jormag chests or jump puzzles in high level areas. i suppose youll need those for jewelry. id just buy them off the trading post. but for armor, its usually a good idea to pick a rune set… a lot of runes offer nifty bonuses incomparable to stats.
you can also get a few sets (including rabid) from wvw armor vendors. skins dont matter. buy a piece for its stats, buy another piece for the skin, and transmute. dont worry about looks until you have the stats you want.

all this build/gear advice misses the point…
you feel weak because of scaling. since you have access to exotics (level 60+), when you get downscaled.. you are downscaled so that an 80 in full exotics has a marginally easier time than someone who would not be downscaled and is in best available gear. if youre wearing level 70 greens and are 79, youll have a somewhat tough time anywhere (lower level gear + not best available).
its great so many people are willing to give gear advice tho. and it seems legit enough to me. but i think a sigil of bloodlust would do a lot more for you.

Wanted to give a shout-out to the Ferguson’s Crossing on FCBL last night, server time! Great fights were to be had. My guild, [BÆST], was determined to conquer your superior numbers and arrow carts in SE Tower. You took us out a few times, but eventually the tower was ours. Even after we took it, you kept on the offense for a few more hours. Kept us on our toes. It was great fun! Hope you got some good loot too!
At the end of the day, we were a bit tired.
Note: No, we’re not sitting on anyone. Just regular sitting.

i went 0/30/0/30/10
pistol traits, vigor / backpack regen / 409 in alchemy, speedy kits
rabid armor, celestial trinket (ascended), 4 altruism 2 monk
ate mango pie and maintenance oil
used med kit, B, S, toolkit
sat in kits during phase 1 and regenned thru autos. kited phase 2 around using pistol skills on cd, wiping condis and keeping vigor up all the while.
S is a beautiful oh kitten button that lets you keep orbs around for rallies

come on… 20g/hour is like 3x better than cof. 10-15 levels/hour (on uplevels) is far better than crafting. those are optimized numbers, but so was cof and so is crafting.

see descent series for well done space combat (for example). i havent played eve, id expect thats another example. however, it does work better in 1st person as opposed to 3rd imo.there is no reason underwater combat should be as limited and poorly executed as it is
Not false…space combat is different then water combat…..
Space is much larger and the pace is much faster….ships can move very quickly….people not so much….so it makes for slow cludgy play…
the pace is what the designer sets it to be. do they ever set space combat to our current tech levels? that would feel extraordinarily similar to water combat, because we have practically nothing compared to the imaginations of space game designers or movie writers. a game like that would be boring and slow, like water combat in gw2. we play these games to escape our reality, not to extend it.
space is a fully immersive 3d environment, instead of the 2.5d of gw2 and every other fantasy mmo. and gw2 and similar games approach water combat with the same 2.5d gameplay instead of truly giving us 6 cardinal movement directions. therein lies the problem.
…and no, gameplay in gw2 is not 3d. the graphics are. movement is 2d + elevations, not 3d. the target audience is very bad at 3d thinking because all theyve ever had to do is 2d. spatial reasoning is not the forte of casual gamers and teenagers.

well after the first couple days, now that people have found most of the patterns to the fight, i see posts explaining there are patterns whenever i see posts qq’ing about chaos and 1 shots. so besides the cosmic orbs pulling you randomly, liadri doesnt have all that much bad design. but the fight as a whole definitely does, mostly because of things that arent liadri herself.

Hey that is excellent feedback insanemaniac! My point of view is from NA bracket and the frustration of population stacking [and community implosions]. I see volatility in the EU matches and think, “Wow, this is not working as intended. The EU bracket should have less volatility considering they have a more even population spread.”
id say its working exactly as intended. the tiered matches allowed both server sets to drift apart farther than they should have. eu has recovered from that quicker than na, so theyre probably ready for the future changes the devs intend to make to reduce the random factor a bit. a higher range of likely matchups should be a symptom of recovery, because the problem was that servers drifted too far apart for the rating system to work efficiently.
and overall, if every server is about equal, matchups should be extremely volatile… any server can play any other and have a good match.
From my point of view again, NA bracket players do change how they play to compensate for the changes over time in the match making process. For example, I avoid tier 1 population servers after my own server population imploded and declined.(there are many different player responses).
“I see different volatility as an effect of player attitudes on a large scale …” This makes sense to me.
But I will argue it is the other way around for NA bracket. On this side….I know [we know] that the population stacking began since launch and would never stop. Currently, there is no mechanic that punishes the behavior and I expect it to continue [until fundamental changes occur]. Does that make sense?

1) NA and EU bracket volatility is different. 2) Players on both sides have different methods of compensating for this. When I saw Devon go straight into explaining the mechanics of the matchup I wanted him to stop and acknowledge that the match-up mechanics are not the only process! The players have created their own “process” (which has complicated the design).
So….my input has less to do with the original poster and more to do with communicating the details…. =)
the euros may in general value fair matches more than americans since the degree of server stacking is lower. and thus higher volatility is a source of frustration.
i dont really see players compensating for volatility, i see different volatility as an effect of player attitudes on a large scale o.O

Wait what, so new minor WvW content and changes takes 3-6 months to make and balance while there is PvE patch every 2 weeks with new maps, recepies, features, items, npcs and 100 other things. Im not really into dev hating but just how stupid do you think we are? Atleast be honest and say you dont create content for WvW because you dont get revenues from this.
But it IS much harder to make and balance content that has to do with PvP actions, since if something is imbalanced or exploitable it would hurt the game and player way more than if something like that turns up in PvE.
and yet MOBAs release new content (playable heroes, items) like all the time and just take imbalances in stride without hurting the game for more than a patch cycle or 2
so they release something OP? so what? next patch cycle can take care of it. being afraid to make content is just silly.

On the contrary it has EVERYTHING to do with how you are able to handle your profession and skills in wvw. If you are a level 50 warrior it is totally different from being a level 5 necro. Some classes are way easier to get wxp from.
I understand that people want things easy but wxp should be a toon xp measurement not an account wide. If you want an account wide then give the bonus that you can spend to account wide but a level 3/80 necro should not get a level 50 title simply because an alt played more wvw
are you saying the only thing you care about is that unplayed alts dont receive the main’s “champion” or “squire” or whatever title? but that you dont care if they share wap? thats something i could support. whatever.

Very true. To start they could give us 2 running specs, one for land, 1 for water, just like our utility skills.
the list is practically endless:
-surfacing
-dodging
-weapon selection
-inaccessible utilities
-aoe/“ground” targeting
-slow projectiles + moving target = out of range unless you are nearly meleeing
-melee range in a fully 3d environment
-camera angles
-helmets
water combat is basically in an alpha state, unplayable in pvp and barely passable in pve (because npc ai is predictable enough to be worked around). i wouldnt mind having a spec upon entering water, but they really need to fix basic gameplay before they can even think about something as superficial as separate specs.
the only thing i like about it personally is that grenades have a real autoattack.
its almost easier to just remove it from pvp.

New maps take a long time to be built. And even once they are built it takes a long time to get them tested until they are ready to be released. Rest assured, as soon as we can release new maps, we will. And, while it isn’t an entirely new map, you can look forward to some changes to the borderlands soon. Let’s just say you should get your krait killing in now.

Because if the intention was for us to lose THAT bad then it’s insulting that they would intentionally put us in that position. I don’t see how you don’t get the point??? Match winner based on evolution and overall score “handicaps” if you will would be a pretty kitten big jump in the right direction. Like I’m a golfer who averages -10 vs one who averages par. “Ok I’ll start with 10 strokes, game on”
i dont get your point because ive learned to look past winning as the end all be all reason for wvw. i see it as a sandbox to learn to lead or follow, to face off against others, to learn teamwork and triage.

you use this evidence to suggest gw2 is dying, after throwing in a random comment linking gaining rating to lowering morale.i didn’t link the two other than they are both effects of the situation. it should not make sense that getting your kitten kicked, lowering your morale and population and evolving your server towards higher ranks should happen at the same time.
when we are getting destroyed by higher tiers and I see we are evolving, it’s a slap in the face. To me it’s Anet saying “we thought we had you set you up to actually do even worse than that”
why do you see it as a slap in the face when were doing better than the system expected?
consider declaring match winners from ratings evolutions instead of total points gathered. the latter is dictated by population. the former almost means something, still needs a few months though.

youre providing evidence that the non-random system let server ratings drift farther apart than should have been allowed and the random matchmaking is accounting for it by tightening the rankings, effectively giving “free” score to the lowest ranked servers and taking it from the highest ranked servers on a match by match basis.

first, i dont think you should assume the current matchmaking is the end all solution… the random element is set far too wide for such a low competitor population with such varied “skill” levels. the time to tune it will be when aggregate ratings evolutions get much closer to 0. i think that if you were to do the same thing to past weeks, you would find much bigger numbers than +161 and -175, probably more like whatever is going on with the eu numbers this week. as time goes on, these numbers should tend toward 0, and i bet that around the time they hit +/-50, anet will likely tighten the random factor (because otherwise you actually WOULD see matches like ranks 20 v 8 v 4, whereas currently even a separation of 9 ranks is pretty rare).
second, i dont think you drew a valid conclusion.

on fc… every server we have fought always has at least 10 people in wvw at any given time, and theyre all looking for fights as well. larger scale fights exist at prime time only. if you want to run as a satellite group to a zerg, its much welcomed by the larger group (and hated by the enemies).
there is no shortage of action for me. (course i do most everything, from soloing camps to 5 man grouping to leading a pug zerg)
any of the bottom 6-9 servers are legit for transfers with small group / roaming action that will be relatively safe from the whole turn-a-corner-and-cry-in-the-face-of-a-zerg thing roamers from higher tiers complain about. that said, go to AR. they need people the most right now.

if you cant stop chomper from eating, focus strugar
try to race chomper to the meat, use stuns dazes and knockbacks
meat on a stick poisons you, meat hunks buff and heal you
…dont bother immobilizing, as usual. but cripple and chill are really useful.
make sure your finger is off move and you arent in a dodge roll when you push f to pick up meat
