I doubt we will see the Koss we knew, but I think it would be both awesome and horrifying if we saw Koss, Dunkoro, Melonni, Acolyte Jin, Acolyte Sousuke, Tahlkora, Zhed Shadowhoof, Margrid, Master of Whispers, Goren, Norgu, and General Morgahn risen as awakened in the service of Palawa Joko.

Play the way you want

If experience was the way you gained everything, then why have any content other than “killing stuff”?

Why have dynamic events, boss fights, personal stories where you are required to do certain things, dungeons, any instanced content at all? Why have meta events or dailies or collections or anything else other than killing creatures? You can’t just “play the way you want” and get those rewards without doing those things.

All of those things have rewards for doing them that you cannot get unless you do them. Masteries are not made to be “experience” driven. They are made to be content driven so you have to get them in a new, different way rather than just killing things.

I’m curious about how many “ways” you think that they can make available to obtain things so you and everyone else can “play the way you want”?

There has to be limits in ways of obtaining anything. For every person in game, each one will want to play a little differently. I don’t see a way they could accommodate everyone.

They could have had Masteries mimic the level-up experience in expansions. That way, no points would be needed. I’d have preferred this. They could also have tied where you gain XP to specific lines. Want Itzel, gain XP in VB. Want Nuhoch, gain XP in TD. Want Exalted, gain XP in AB. I’d have been happy with much more XP needed, too, as long as I didn’t have to jump through hoops that hold little interest for me.

OK, but that still doesn’t answer the question about how you think they could have done it so that it would appeal to everyone. Just because you or I or anyone else might like something, there will always be someone who doesn’t like it that way.

Then those people do not get to play the way they want. The company has to decide on a path and go with it. There is no possible way they could account for every person’s likes and wants. It just isn’t possible in any game or situation.

Scourge is the one I want to try out the most, but several interest me. If I had to choose and order of what I find most interesting it would be:

1. Scourge
2. Soulbeast
3. Firebrand
4. Weaver
5. Mirage
6. Deadeye
7. Holosmith
8. Spellbreaker
9. Renegade

I enjoy it a lot. I don’t like things just handed to me and like having the mastery lines as end game content.

As others have said, some of the masteries have limited use, but some of those are needed for certain areas to progress, so I don’t mind getting them.

Masteries are good alternatives to power creep end game content.

What I am very displeased with is the weapon skin and the outfit. I feel like 0 thought went into any of this.

I can understand you feelings, but I am pretty sure a lot of thought went into them. They are replicas or based on items that were a part of Nightfall in GW1. Offering them was a nod to the first game which many loved.

The weapon is a shrapnel of metal that they flailed out into a spike and they have 0 effects, 0 look and look like the dev team just threw it together over night and then claim its the weapons of the crystal des.

Actually they are nods to weapons from Nightfall. Many of the current weapons didn’t exist so they were crafted in that vein. Not all of us want sparkly, flash, weapons. These skins speak to me on a nostalgic and more realistic level.

Also the outfit. Now come on Anet I just bought the last outfit and it was the coolest one of all time. Next to the wintersday glowing one they are so cool, and we got some white pads that look like a combat wedding dress…

Your thoughts on the weapons and the outfit are purely subjective. You have every right to feel as you do, but my feelings about the weapons and outfit are completely opposite yours. I thought the last outfit was terrible. I love this Sunspear/Paragon outfit. It is simple and clean. It doesn’t have spikes all over or glow effects or any other weird (to me) things going on I do not enjoy. There is no way they can make something that pleases everyone. It doesn’t make them bad, it makes them not pleasing to you.

No one, and I repeat no one will use this as their fashion. Thoughts?

Simply not true. I already have the outfit on two of my characters. Elona was my favorite place in GW1 and I loved my Paragon. So you can repeat yourself over and over, but it will never make that last statement true or well thought out.

OP, I understand a bit of how you feel in that you know what you want from a game.
It’s just that many people feel the opposite way you do.

Discovery is one of the things I love about the game. I love figuring things out on my own. I don’t want to be hand held or have a clear path.

It’s wonderful to walk into a new part of any map and have to figure out what it is you have to do there. I do that by talking to NPC’s. When I first started, I would talk to those people with hearts on them. I would interact with those double red triangle flags on the map. POI’s would just pop up as discovered when I got close.

So while I understand how you want to play the game, this really just isn’t that type of game.

Factions: We have to prevent some guy from the past from further releasing a plague to the world and come back to the mortal realm. Meh.

Nightfall: We have to prevent some woman from further releasing Nightfall to the world and freeing her god.

EotN: Destroyers are bad. Defeat the destroyers.

There’s a difference between demonstrating the simplicity and lack of complexity in something and it being justified, and what you just did. You were pretty much just loosely describing things.

But you know what’s funny? Even in the way you described the events in the story, they STILL sound much better than what we got with GW2.

The story writing in GW1 was objectively on a whole different level. If “meh” is the only reaction you could muster from the Factions campaign, then you just can’t appreciate a great narrative.

What I just did is what you just did about the dragons.

I wnjoyed the GW1 stories just like I have the GW2 stories. I’m not going to say that the GW1 stories were superior because they weren’t as they were very basic and narrow.

In the end, it is all subjective. I feel the same as Avectius about the stories of GW1, Factions, Nightfall and EOTN. I thought the stories were better and more fleshed out. That doesn’t mean I disliked GW2’s stories.

I don’t see the GW1 stories as basic and narrow. You can break any story, novel, show, etc down into a basic of some sort. It’s what happens during the story that matters. Breaking it down to a simplistic base does it disservice.

Saving Private Ryan: War movie.
The Godfather: Movie about mafia.
Star Wars: Space Movie
The Wizard of Oz: Movie about a girl from Kansas.

Boiling it down to base elements does not encompass the true nature of the complete package.

Dervish?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jheryn.8390

jheryn.8390

I was really hoping for two of the elites to be Dervish and Paragon.

I could easily see a Dervish Elite for the thief and a Paragon Elite for the Guardian or Revenant.

Honestly it was a bit disappointing not to have either. Maybe they will come later. There are plenty of other North African/South West Asian elites for other classes they could incorporate. For example:

Elementalist: Djinn Master
Engineer: Architect (Pyramids anyone?)
Guardian: Ankh Bearer
Mesmer: Si’lat (Mythological Middle Eastern Shapeshifter)
Necromancer: Necropolis Guide
Ranger: Spirit Guide (Animal spirits were sacred in ancient Egyptian mythos)
Revenant: Paragon
Thief: Dervish
Warrior: Charioteer (Since we are introducing mounts)

Not that any of these would be viable, but if it was that easy for me to think up in a couple of minutes, surely Anet could do better and keep with the Crystal Desert/Elona theme.

Story lacking?

I still play GW1 from time to time. I enjoyed the stories and was not one of those that complained about it. I realize that you cannot give every minute bit of information that you would get in life, but they seemed to flow better in GW1. I’m not looking through rose colored glasses either as I still play the original game.

That being said, GW1 had its flaws just as GW2 does. Where GW2 struggles IMO is with with a bit of a disjointed feel. The story jumps around too much. Maybe cohesiveness is a better word.

Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy GW2 and have been impressed with the amount of content Anet has provided since HoT, but the story could be a little more streamlined IMO.

No-Mount Zones

Agreed. Locking them out of major cities should be easy enough. Locking them out of the smaller cities may take a lot more work, going through each map and marking the areas where they’re not allowed because of smaller towns or caves, but I hope they’re working on it.

I’m not sure that it would be that difficult, because most JP’s are no-fly zones for gliding. Why would it be any more difficult to dismantle areas for mounts?

I actually have the outfit on my male norn. His look is really, really close to my paragon in GW. I guess it depends on the physical look you create for the norn whether it is good or not.

That being said, I love the new outfit. It looks just like Paragon armor out of GW1.

The weapon skins are OK, for me. Loved the torch however.

….Anyways, no you can’t avoid toxic people, whether in real life or online. Yet I feel like this kind of behavior is taking place more often and with more intensity among the Guild Wars community and this is unfortunate.

Have fun and be kind folks.

o/

You are so right. On the bright side, there are many, many more out there who are not like that at all. I find many GW2 players to be kind and helpful.

As far as those toxic, mean people, thank goodness for the block button.

My guild and I are made up of people over 30 years of age and we do not tolerate people like that in our guild. We also don’t automatically admit people. They have to hang out with us for a while so we can see that they are nice, helpful, fun people. They don’t have to be perfect players or have the best stats or be the top tier players. They just have to be nice people.

One of the things our guild tries to do is help others when we are out in the PvE world. We also do the same for those in WvW areas that are on our side. We stop to res people or help them kill something when they are having a hard time. We also like to help people when we can when there is a call out in map chat. It isn’t a rule or anything, we just want to be those people that are the opposite of the ones you are talking about. We know how toxic things can be.

tl/dr: There are many GW2 people who are just the opposite of those toxic people. Get locked into one of those groups and block the mean ones.

That is subjective. I’ve been here since beta and I can find a use for all of the things in the deluxe.

I like alts so the new character slot and 80 boost are great for me.

It will be fun to have the new exclusive convenience area in the Crystal Desert/Elona.

There is no guaranty no matter how long you have been playing of getting anything. I have a friend that has played over 10K hours and got his first precursor out of the forge last weekend.

I bought a second account and got my first toon to level 10 and got a BL Key. I opened a chest and got an iron node on that first key.

Anet realized that all people want a chance at legendaries, so they created a way to craft them. If you don’t get a precursor drop, then make any legendary you want.

I also think ANet will not add either a new profession or race, not just now, but going forward. I don’t care, either, as long as any Elite Specs offer new ways to play. As to the OP’s desire for Dervish, I’d be fine with a scythe weapon being added and made part of an Elite Spec that offered a similar “feel” to the Dervish Class from Nightfall.

This.^

I don’t think that we will get a new profession or race. I too hope that the new elites will give classes a new way of playing rather than just recycled utilities from other classes.

As far as Dervish goes, I was really hoping one of the elites would allow for a new Dervish. I don’t think that is happening, however. With the return of at least one God, you would think that Dervishes would be in the cards. Sadly, I don’t think it is.

I liked the lore from GW1 being infused in Season 3, but it felt forced and gratuitous at times. It also felt like the storytellers were kittened that they had to use lore from GW1.

After killing two elder dragons and a world-threatening bat-kitten-crazy Sylvari, you would think we have proved how strong/faithful/dedicated/trustworthy we are. What else can we do to prove to these idiots we are the good guy?

Except for Livia, who is a living legend and has saved humanity a time or two, wouldn’t you like the our character to tell those questioning his trust and dedication, “Bite me. I’ve saved the world three times. Who are you to question anything about me? What have you done that gives you that right?”

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Then do not get them. They are only skins. They are not needed to play the game at all.

That is not the point, blindly defending a corporation, classic. This is nothing but a cash grab, not people being told to stop complaining and to not get it isnt a solution, you need to be able to critisize these types of decisions or eventually you can say screw ethics in general.

To start, I agree that raising it to 2 tickets is wrong with no warning. Many people like you and others that have been saving their 1 ticket just got slapped in the face.

That being said, I don’t think the person you quoted was defending a corporation, but stating a fact of real life. We have the right to not like the new price or agree with them upping the price, but it is what it is. If we cannot afford or don’t want to pay for the skins, we have the option to not buy them. That isn’t defending the corporation.

I don’t like when my electric or gas company raises the prices arbitrarily, but that’s life. That isn’t defending them, it’s just stating facts whether I like it or not.

Can a Guild Leader Demote another GL?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jheryn.8390

jheryn.8390

It’s not something to be fixed for the reasons stated by Skittish, but also because you can create two ranks: an uber rank, and one just below it, without permission to demote all ranks. It’s up to the guild to decide if they want co-leaders or not.

The officers in one of my guilds have their own separate guild bank because our regular guild bank is too full.

I had a full bank on two of my alt accounts. One of those accounts was a mule account and so I offered it up as the officer’s (of which I am one) of my main guild to use.

I am not the guild leader and wanted to retain ownership of the bank if anything ever happened to my main guild. All officers from my main guild are considered “guild leaders” of that account. The only thing they cannot do with that guild is demote me from my “uber rank” as IWN said. This way, I will always retain ownership of that guild bank.

tl/dr You want never be demoted as guild leader, don’t give other guild leaders you create that permission.
