Totally not worth it to me. I have both Twilight and Sunrise and I would never change them into Eternity.

[SUGGESTION] Introducing New Playable Races

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jheryn.8390

jheryn.8390

I think the OP, like many others, has grossly underestimated the effort needed to set up a new race. I think they have also misunderstood ANet’s attitude about new content: they don’t like to do anything half-way; if they introduce new races, they are going to have strong stories, something more than just being a slightly different skin.

How much should a company over-simplify a new race just for the sake of saying that there’s a new race in the game? If you can’t play it sub-80, if there’s no personal story, if it re-uses gear skins, if it doesn’t have a unique set of voices… is it still a new race?

Regardless, the question isn’t really, “how much work is it?” It’s a matter of, “if we have that amount of resources to work on new content, what’s the best thing for the community for us to do?” So far, the answer has always been: there are still plenty of other things that players want to see more than a new race, plus plenty of combinations of 3-4 things we could do instead.

Or in other words, do we — as a community — prefer to slow down the pace of the Living Story to fewer times a year? or would we rather have a new race? Do we want new zones and new stories for the 2nd expac? Or a new race?

(Of course, it’s not as linear a question as I’ve made it sound; assigning resources is much more complicated.)

tl;dr lots of people want to see races; that’s not the issue. The problem is: we also want to see lot of other new things, and a new race consumes a lot of the same resources. There are too many other things competing for the dev’s attention.

This.^ No offense to you at all OP, but at this point I just don’t see it as an undertaking that Anet would want to involve themselves in. I understand your wanting it, however.

After all, people clamor for new content on a second by second basis. A new race would not entail actual new content except for the personal story which many people want nothing to do with. Especially those dedicated PvP and WvW players. Most players would rather have new maps, map content, armor, weapons, villains, etc.

In GW2 and to a lesser degree in GW, people as a whole seemed to want more content than playable races.

It would be nice, just not feasible I think.

this just has to prove the theory that a serious weapon will have a silly counter part and a silly weapon will have a serious weapon.

I don’t necessarily agree with this.

Bifrost and Nevermore are both pretty serious and I like both of them.

Chuka and Champawat and the Dreamer are both silly IMO. So I really don’t think your analogy really works 100%. There do seem to be quite a few that follow that pattern however.

"The Head of the Snake" delayed

I appreciate the delay but you really should’ve made an executive decision regarding the snowstorm and the unforeseen setbacks earlier to prevent people from wasting their time doing nothing, like taking time off of work which they won’t get back.

However, if the patch is coming ASAP, for the love of god, don’t release the raid wing at the same time. Make sure you release it the day after to give everyone a fair chance at it, otherwise it’s just unfair.

Get over it. Life happens. Pretty sure your life wont be drastically altered by a delay in a game.

And Raid comes with the patch which will be dropped at the same time everywhere. What isn’t fair about that? SMH

Your disgruntlement does not mean the game is dead or that Anet doesn’t care about the game or that the devs have given up.

Dueling in PVE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jheryn.8390

jheryn.8390

You guys bring up how well knit the community is yet you ignore any opinion that’s not your own. So I’m going to fight back by politely bringing up all the good points that have been made, and showing that more then just I am interested in dueling. And again this is coming from a non duelist like I’ve said before. I want to see something going on in the cities!

[SNIP]

I respect your desire for duels. I also respect your right to request duels. But this may be a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

You do realize that many people have the same desire to NOT want dueling. It is as valid as your desire to have it. Maybe some of them are not as polite as they should be in expressing this, but that is life.

If they were truly ignoring your opinion, they wouldn’t have said anything in the first place.

I personally don’t want to see duels out in the open world. I don’t want to run through a zone and seeing people fighting every 10 feet.

I am a PvE’er because I enjoy mutual cooperation in events, looking at different biomes, and enjoying an environment free of player versus player battles.

While you may want it for convenience and other reasons, there are many, like myself, who don’t want to see duels for legitimate reasons as well.

I get that some players really like to duel. In Guild Wars at least, PvE is NOT the place to do that. It belongs in a different venue like PvP or WvW.

Storyline telling...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jheryn.8390

jheryn.8390

After reading through the posts here, I agree here and there with most of them.

I do agree that the story is mostly generic and predictable. And while overall flat, there are some characters that I did find myself caring about. Tybalt comes to mind for pulling at the heartstrings. Canach, Taimi, and Phlunt are all characters that made me laugh and enjoy when they are in the story. Trahearn and Scarlet were both characters that I couldn’t stand although Scarlet did make me laugh at times. So I even cared about them in the “hoping they go away” category.

Anet does know how to make a compelling story as evidenced by the original, Guild Wars. There were many characters in all three games and in EOTN that you were engaged with and cared about. I know the GW wasn’t a real MMO in the traditional sense, but they could tell a story. Even the festivals had small stories attached that you would enjoy and want to repeat.

I don’t think GW2 stories are bad. I don’t think they are great. I believe they have the capacity for great storytelling, but I don’t think it gets the attention it deserves because they have to concentrate on so many other areas.

I have other playable characters I rarely play
3 Male Humans
1 Female Human

So if the Iron, Hard Wood, and Flaxseed harvesting nodes which were previously only available through the Black Lion Chests, and are now no longer available in these chests, how are we supposed to get them now?

There’s a MF recipe that requires you to put in Twilight, Sunrise, Eternity, and Bolt… and you have a 33% chance at getting one of the nodes… otherwise you’ll get 10-40 amalgamated gemstones.

~EW

0/10 troll attempt.

Hopefully the exclusion of these nodes is an oversight.

I don’t mind that, in fact I do enjoy gambling, but if they’re going to nerf the RNG, it is fair to complain if you pay the same amount from it.

Once I got 2 black lion tickets (not scraps) in one chest, that’s not possible anymore. I don’t say I got it a lot, I’m saying that the possibility was there and it was sweet. Now you have a slight chance to get one… and are assured to get 2 crap items. This is a nerf, no matter what some people say.

I agree with this. They really did nerf the chances. I have gotten two tickets as well. The thing is, they let us know that it is now nerfed. The best way to make your complaint heard is to not buy tickets. THAT will get them to change things when the revenue drops.

I absolutely agree with you here, however.

I guess it is a matter of perception. I don’t believe that people are getting kicked anywhere.

Anyone who has played this game for any length of time KNOWS how things drop from the BL chests. If someone knows this and buys keys anyway, whose fault is it that they are disappointed when they get exactly what they know will probably drop?

If you keep buying BL keys and expect drops from the chests to be better each time you buy the keys well, that is just…

You know the definition of crazy? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

The wardrobe unlock is a fantastic idea, and I applaud it making it to the box. I’m frustrated that this is still considered a rare drop, as I’d probably be willing to buy keys if there were a slot that guaranteed an RNG of the following:

  • Ticket scraps
  • Full Tickets
  • Wardrobe Unlocks
  • Mini Egg (and none of this account bound garbage…)
And I mean it. One of those in every box. Stop the wildly random foolishness.

Unless I am reading what you are saying here incorrectly, the GWU is actually a common drop.

What I don’t agree with is a “guaranteed” drop like the list you gave above. They might as well put them in the gem shop and sell them individually and not have them in the chest at all.

The chests were not designed to give great stuff all the time. They were made for the purpose of entertainment. If you play the lottery IRL and expect to win, then you almost certainly will be disappointed.

Soulbound Removal

Posted by: jheryn.8390

The only thing I can see that they might have a problem with changing some soulbound stuff to account bound, would be things like heart rewards, personal advancement rewards and the like.

You would only have to have one toon finish everything and then all the rest could get whatever he/she accomplished. Not that most of those things make a difference, but maybe there are some that do.

Pretty sure people are only referring to items so stuff like hearts would be irrelevant.

Even if they aren’t there is no need to take it to that extreme.

Items are what I am talking about not heart completion. After you complete hearts you can buy items. Some of those items are used in completing other content that can be completed per toons. There could be other reasons not to as well. Only the devs can truly answer that.

So yes, getting rid of souldbound altogether may not be good.

I key farm once per week on my toon Keyholio. I have saved up quite a few keys. I hadn’t purchased keys for a long time so I also bought a 5 pack. Total 28 keys with the freebie.

I had to see how good/bad the drops were now.

Most of my stuff was normal fodder but I did have a great discovery. The Wardrobe Unlocks.

I received 6 of them and got some awesome unlocks.
Winter’s Sting Skin
Flame Dye
Phoenix Staff Skin
Chaos Axe Skin
Glittering Shortbow Skin
I also got a “meh” mini.

Even with these great unlocks, I feel that the chests don’t give as good as they used to. Like many others, I think the ToT bag should be a +1 as they have done with many other seasonal extras.

The other stuff I got was not great, but I don’t expect great when I open them up. I never have. You really can’t expect great because they are not designed to give out great with any consistency.

I will say that I did enjoy the wardrobe unlocks, however.

28 BLack Lion Keys... ALL uncommon

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: jheryn.8390

BL chests are designed to bags of junk, with a small chance of something interesting and a super tin chance of something valuable. They are intended to be rewards; they offer a momentary thrill of anticipation that this time, you might be lucky.

Buy them if you appreciate the entertainment value; ignore them otherwise.

+1 IWN. These things are basically slot machines with a guaranty of getting SOMETHING out of it, even if it junk.

They give you something because if they give you nothing like a real slot machine, then it would truly be gambling. This way it is NOT gambling because you actually are guaranteed to get three items.

The problem is is that like a real slot machine, you can pull it 50 time and still get nothing or something minuscule.

If you believe that you will EVER get anything valuable, then you are fooling yourself. As IWN said above, if you are buying keys and opening these things for anything other than entertainment, then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. That is not Anets fault, that is yours.

I wonder if the actual previewer is not large enough to show everything. On the wiki it has the nodes at the very bottom. I would guess, not having seen it yet, that there are other things not showing on the previewer as well.

However, the multi-loot exploit maybe has not been dealt with by Anet because they don’t see it as a problem.

My point was that Anet hasn’t addressed it. By that I mean they need to address it by publicly saying yes/no/ we are working on/there is no easy fix because it too complicated for the team etc. Anyway their silence is the bigger issue and no one player can say with any certainty the Anet doesn’t see it as a problem and your definitive explanation is only pure speculation as was mine.

Of course it was pure speculation. Did I say otherwise?

If they are staying silent on the issue on purpose, I totally understand and respect that.

Especially on these public forums, things heat up rather quickly and get ugly. I can see a Catch 22 for Anet on this. There are many people who hate the multi loot situation. Obviously there are many that love it. Addressing it one way or another until they are prepared to deal with it, however they are prepared to deal with it, could just mean headache for them.

They have constantly said about content: “It’s ready when it’s ready.” I would guess that they feel the same about issues: “We will address them when we address them.”

The “staying silent” tactic is NOT a speculation on my part. It is a business strategy in many different industries. “Say nothing until you are ready.” We have employed it within my company as well.

You might be right in certain peoples’ cases. However, the multi-loot exploit maybe has not been dealt with by Anet because they don’t see it as a problem. Maybe they feel that it is already satisfactorily dealt with.

I agree with those that said this should not be made available again. Which brings up the larger issue of other exclusive items.

There have been many items that were supposed to be event specific and some that players had to work hard to obtain. Much later, to my dismay, Anet decided to make them available in other ways. i.e. Laurels, etc.

To me, it cheapened the time I invested obtaining the item. It also made the item commonplace and significant for nothing.

I think there is nothing wrong with and even motivational for people to attend specific events that have exclusive items and work to get them. Those items should stay exclusive.

What Laurels are you referring to?

I can think of 2 possibilities but neither of them was an event item:

  • The currency – this used to be awarded for completing daily and monthly achievements, then moved to login rewards.
  • The Wreath of Cooperation which is a normal gem store item and is available periodically like all the rest.

I can think of several off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more. They were things you got by completing specific event achievements. Now you can get them for laurels and gold.

Some I can think of are:
Fervid Censor
Infinite Watchknight Tonic
Several minis. Miniature Ellen Kiel comes to mind.
The Zephyrite Helm skins.
Etc.

LOL. Well, not officially. My guildmates and I have called LH “Steve” since we first saw him/her which was well before the DSD was on anyone’s radar for a name.

As Gaile said, however, the official name of The Labyrinthian Horror will not change. To bad. Maybe one day we will get a fractal that explains how LH turned into this monstrosity and what his/her real name is.

I played my little heart out this weekend, even took a day of PTO to get in more Labyrinth time. And given the confusion with the undersea creature, I’m hoping we can all agree to call the Labyrinthine Horror by the name of… ~drum roll~ … Cecil. It… just seems fitting, and players seemed to agree.

I. Just. Can’t.

LH will always be Steve to me any my guildmates. Sorry S-Named-Undersea-Dragon, but you will have to be “Bubbles” to my friends and I until Anet is ready to reveal you.

I called Steve “Cecil” and he knocked me over. He didn’t like it.

Players have complained about DR from day one of it’s implementation, in other words for YEARS, and they had the audacity to increase it instead.

But hey they finally took it away in this one zone and all is well, and not because of complaints of this halloween event overall, so yeah halloween saved!

“Audacity”? LOL If the devs caved to all the complaints and demands of the community, the game would just be toons standing still in L.A. watching gold, mats, and precursors scrolling as they were automatically dumped into your endless bags and bank inventory.

As has been said by devs and many others, DR exists to regulate the economy. Even with the original DR in the lab, it was a huge, quick gold generator. Probably the largest the game offers. So yes, those in charge probably thought increasing the DR in the lab was called for. Mo did not. In fact, as he said, this only happens once a year and they want it to be fun so he took away the DR altogether in the lab. It doesn’t mean that DR has no place in the game as a whole.

It doesn’t matter if players don’t like DR, it is there for a reason in the rest of the world. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that it isn’t good for the game.

As hard as it may sound: could we please stop being naive and praising him endlessly?

MO saves Halloween! Thank you for listening to the players. Anet cares for their players! That’s very generous of you Mo!

They increased the DR this year before removing it. Why would they do that? They should know their players by now. It took them a huge sh*tstorm on reddit and the forum to do something about it.

[Read the following with sarcasm dripping from each word]. “Yes, let’s be hateful to Mo for doing something nice. That’s helpful.” [End sarcasm.]

Some people will find something hateful even in the nicest of gestures. It is just sad that you want to tell the rest of us not to be nice for something we are grateful for.

Yes, they did increase DR. But there was always DR. Players complained about DR period. Mo took it away completely. No DR at all. Therefore: Listened to players.

People were complaining about the bosses not being tough enough, so they buffed them. Therefore: Listened to players.

I have seen the occasional concern about no new content, but have never seen anyone complaining about no new story. Just you. Most people want to farm the Lab. They do. Mo made it better. Life is good.

It is nice to see people being nice to Anet and Mo for a change. Please do not ask people to be hateful and mean where and when there is simply no cause to do so.
