What makes a playstyle / build fun to you?

Necro and Ranger PvE builds are the most fun for me. I enjoy the trap ranger and well necros the most. Since it is PvE, I don’t have to worry about meta builds and can just play what is fun for me.

In raids, I love the condi builds. Burnzerker and Condi Engi are my favorites. This is ironic due to the fact that I am not fond of either class outside of Raids. LOL

In fractals and dungeons, I am a Shout Guardian fan. I have a blast with him and now that support efforts are being rewarded just like damage, I will love it even more. I can help my team and get rewarded too!

Will we ever see enemies that have actual skill sets like they did in GW1?

Since player characters have skill sets, it only makes sense that at least enemies that are player character races have sets of skills just like players.

How about bringing back some of the many creatures that we encountered in GW1 that are not represented in GW2?

It amazes me that the designers had a rich history and many creatures to give an upgrade, yet they created new ones instead. It really does baffle me.

i.e.: Life Pods, Thorn Stalkers, Phantoms, Hydra (they were in Ascalon), Saurens that were already there instead of new ones, skeletons not in the maze, and gargoyles, to name a few.

No, I did NOT confirm that there isn’t a problem. There may not be a problem for you or me, but there is for the OP and many others. Whether or not you understand it is irrelevant.

Read – understand = realize there’s no problem – everything has stayed the same just that one skill does a bit less damage wheras the other 2 have been buffed = mechanics stayed the same unless you liked 1111 which requires no skill whatsoever (not even for thief in PvE but that’s a whole different topic).

From other comments others have left you on this topic as well as my own, your statement above just reads to me, “I want to be right, therefore I am.”

The Rev changed. There are people who do not like it. It is a problem for them. The end.

Um no. Reading comprehension is your friend. That is why I said, “It is just my opinion.” No blanket statements. Just opinions.

“You have no right to say what 10k players you’ve met think because I assume you can’t know – that’s why I’m calling you a liar”

Again, reading comprehension should be your friend – have a nice day.

Really? What does your comment have to do with what you quoted from me other than you sought to try to cleverly use my words against me? Fail, btw.

To address what you wrote: Yes, I do not believe you personally know what 10k individuals think about something, nor do I believe you have spoken with each of those 10k people to make any kind of definitive statement.

Back on topic, I have spoken with three members of my guild who main Revs. (Maybe I should have claimed that I spoke to 200 of them to make myself sound more credible.)

One of them doesn’t mind the change. The other two do not like it because the number 2 skill was not in their rotation because it was too slow and didn’t do enough damage. Skill three was nerfed to 5 strikes instead of 7. So things did not, stay the same. People playing revs now have to adjust rotations to get the same damage. Having damage from one skill spread across to other skills does not equate to “nothing changed.” Particularly when that was NOT the only change.

I didn’t realize that you had spoken with 10k players about their hatred for PvE.

I didn’t say “hate” I said “don’t care” – the why I already explained – please don’t get things wrong just because it suits you.

You seriously focused on the word hate instead of the laughability of you knowing what 10k WvW players think? Scary. Insert the words “not caring” in place of “hatred” in my sentence and it still is true. You do not know what 10k WvW’s think.

So yeah – let me rephrase: “Some PvE players do care about PvE – they still don’t understand how this game works which is kind of sad as they see a personal attack behind every nerf”

Again, blanket statement of which you have no proof. You know nothing of what the vast amount of PvE’ers do or do not know.

It is just my opinion… SNIP …any business to keep their majority happy.

Do they really put that much effort into balancing PvE? No, they don’t – the game is still majorly balanced around PvP – so the cosmetics are for PvE yes, and that might seem as the majority of efforts. (And really: I ususally know the players on my servers – I’ve been to a few and guess what: we talk about balance and or pve/pvp in mapchat)

Making blanket statements of fact is silly. You have no concrete proof of those statements either.

I hope you realize that this is what you’re doing right now.

Um no. Reading comprehension is your friend. That is why I said, “It is just my opinion.” No blanket statements. Just opinions.

And I always pay attention to and engage in map chat as well. It doesn’t mean that I know or am delusional enough to think I know what all/most PvE players think.

I do too – I already wrote that in my first post. That doesn’t mean there’s a problem though and you just confirmed that there is none (the mechanics stay the same, no matter whether or not one of your skills is slightly nerfed – I’d understand the outrage if a set was rendered completely useless but that is very rarely the case or if it was completely OP and needed to be gone even from PvE).

No, I did NOT confirm that there isn’t a problem. There may not be a problem for you or me, but there is for the OP and many others. Whether or not you understand it is irrelevant.

Sad about Revenant nerf… like to press one button… try the new overpowered class of thief….

Can I say it? Yes, I can:

No one cares about PvE.

You can say it. You’re wrong. But you can indeed say it.

I care very much about PvE. I enjoy it a lot.

Can someone tell me why I didn’t get the ballot to vote on Jana getting to speak for everyone?

None of my friends cares for PvE, none of the 10k players I’ve played wvw with cares for PvE.
The reasons I’ve already listed – we’re more than you think.

I didn’t realize that you had spoken with 10k players about their hatred for PvE.

It doesn’t make you less wrong, however. It is just my opinion, but I would believe that with as much effort as they put into PvE over the other two areas of play, that PvE has much more of an impact on the game than the 10k people you are intimately familiar with that care nothing for PvE. So, again my opinion, there are a vast amount of people who care very much for PvE and that would matter to any business to keep their majority happy.

Making blanket statements of fact is silly. You have no concrete proof of those statements either.

Back on the threads track. It doesn’t matter if you can “hit mobs with wet noodles” and they die. People like their mechanics and when they are altered, it bothers them no matter what game mode we are talking about. It bothers the OP that the Rev was nerfed.

Although I don’t have a problem with the adjustments made to the Rev like the OP does, I understand where he is coming from. Just as I don’t understand how you can make ludicrous statements about PvE.

BTW, I WvW as well and I like PvE even better.

tl;dr. You are still wrong.

[Suggestions] Future Elite Specializations

I would love to see the next elites put a twist on traditional thought about each class. How? No clue. Just something that would make us view classes differently. A few new utility and/or weapon skills would be nice to help that along.

Necro – They deal with the dead so why not ghosts, phantoms and spirits. We could have a new type of “minion” where the necro summons spirits to do his/her bidding that would have completely different skills than current minions. Maybe more of a supportive role.

Revenant – I think it would be cool if their specialization would allow them to have a limited type of pet/minion. Things like Aatxe and Nightmares that are mist creatures.

Ranger – This might be a Nature Seeker specialization. They could use plants, trees, the ground and previously friendly animals in the area around them to fight and snare.

Thief – Like others I have read, this could be a more supportive role in which they grant offensive capabilities to others.

Guardian – Taking a bit from the necro and being true to what a guardian does, it would be guarding the people he is around by taking their conditions and damage to himself (Like “Save Yourselves!”). There would have to be positives he gets from doing so to mitigate the damage/conditions he takes on, but he would be truly “guarding” those around him.

Elementalist – I think it would be cool if the new specialization would combine elements into new combinations of the old ones. New elements could be like Lava (Fire/Earth), Steam (Fire/Water), Silt (Water/Earth), Dust (Earth/Air) and probably many other combos.

Mesmer – Bring back hexes. The end.

Warrior – Something like a shadow warrior where their attacks drain life rather than deal physical damage.

Engineer – Maybe something visually focused like fireworks.

I’m scared that this addition reflects the state of the game, desperate to grab as much cash now while the ship sinks.

This just smacks of doomsaying. Why do people always find a way to jump to the conclusion that something is bad?

I really like the new slots (and yes I have multiple sets of permanent harvesting tools and salvage-o-matics). I found that taking these things off of several toons and deleting regular tools and kits from others freed up a lot of inventory.

Well its everyones right to voice their opinions, and if people feel passionate about the failures of HoT, then so be it. Not everyone is satisfied with their experience and some people are upset/disappointed so far. Now if you really like HoT or are just tired of reading it, then just take note of it and move on. Considering that right now, there are many game modes that are almost dead or completely dead (dungeons and wvw), its going to make more people outspoken.

Besides, if you don’t let Anet or moderators know you’re disappointed, changes will never be made to make it better and they’ll just assume they’re going in the right direction.

I agree that people should voice their opinions good or bad. What I agree with the OP is that they keep posting the same things over and over and over.

If a post is negative but constructive and respectful I think they should post away. If they are not, which many threads are riddled with these hateful/nasty posts, they are not worth reading or should be given any consideration.

Of course 250 is easier than 400. The number 399 is less than 400 too, just as 10 is. Your point?

Look at it this way. GW2 encourages alts. Which makes sense given we are shelling out 10 USD for each one. Say an average altoholic has one of each class.

By what definition is 2250 hero points ‘easy’?

The comparison is poor. 250 is much easier than 450 as opposed to 399’s minutely so.

Where did 450 come from?

One more time, they are elite in name only. Some of them are not worth giving up a trait line. I still want the chance to try them all out to see which ones fit my playstyle though.

Since the specializations do not give inherent advantages I would say the exact amount every other trait line and skill ‘line’ would be fair. Which means 85-90. I could agree to 100 though.

There was a MASSIVE backlash to when 250 was datamined. Even the 170 for just the traits/skills seemed too high to be true to many. Before that most were guessing somewhere below world completion (which is 179 points, not 214) as that is what we were told.

Once again, all these are are just new mechanics. I bought HOT specifically for the new mechanics (which they were advertising heavily) and do not care for the new regions. Any of my characters that go there would be more like tourists there than not.

LOL My bad on the 450. I did mean 400.

That is just the thing. They are elite because they allow you to play your classes differently than normally would play.

It really doesn’t say anything about it being more powerful. This wasn’t just about adding different skills, it allows classes the ability to access types of skills they wouldn’t normally have access to. It’s not about advantage it is about access.

And while I can tell that you would rather have it much cheaper, I am perfectly fine having it at 250. I think many others are satisfied with it too.

I like working toward something and not just (more or less) having it handed to me. To me even 100 points is to little. Of course, that is just my take.

There is absolutely no pleasing some people, is there.

If you have a few toons – one of each profession, this 250 is easier to attain than the 400.
For those that have one profession for each race – or one profession for each gender and each race… you brought that whole thing on yourself. The development team is not required to make things easier for someone that has decided to have 10, 15 or 20+ toons.

They dropped the 400 to 250 and still you complain.

Of course 250 is easier than 400. The number 399 is less than 400 too, just as 10 is. Your point?

What do you think is fair? It is an Elite Spec which lets a normal class play in a different way. Do you think those should just be handed to you? Do you think just because people have several Alts (I have 16) that it should be cheap.

As I said earlier, no matter what they dropped the cost to, people would never be happy. I am glad to see that most others are happy with the drop and are recognizing that.

And it doesn’t seem strange to you that they create a completely new machanism for HoT – one they completely forgot to mention while they touted out other things aloud?

[SNIP]

There – if they had done that I bet there’d be a lot less complaints – because it would have been with what GW 2 is instead creating a new, alien-feeling mechanism.

No, it doesn’t seem strange at all. There are a lot of things in HoT that are new. In fact, I WANT there to be new things. It is what keeps the game interesting.

As far as complaints. No there would not have been a lot less complaints. Look at any content that has been released. There has been nothing but a huge amount of complaints. No matter what Anet does, there are a ton of complaints. If people had not been complaining about this it would have been something else.

Completely untrue. As you can find easily in this thread, people praise many aspects of this (and other) releases. One very specific item (albeit a major one) has very many players unhappy.

I wouldn’t be here looking for a “fix” if I didn’t love the game.

What is untrue? That there are a lot of people complaining?

You are right that there are people actually praising “many things”. I’m one of them. The problem I am seeing is that even much of the praise is conditional. "I love HoT but…

I think it is obvious to anyone that the complaints much outweigh the praise. You might have one specific item you want fixed, but there are many more complaining about a lot more things.

Also, many of these people posting are not offering constructive opinions and criticism, but rants ranging from boo-hooing to hateful and harsh.

People really complaining about grinding?
You grind for loot.
You grind for crafting materials.
You grind dungeons for tokens.
Oct. 23rd and the highly anticipated HoT release – within hours people complain about grinding.
smh

That’s not quite the issue here

So you get to tell him which issue he wants to address? Not hardly.

I think he hit the nail on the head.

- and the “storm” here in the forum is mainly based on not revealing important things before pre-purchase even started. Namely:

As a company they do not have to reveal a shred of information. We are fortunate we got what they gave us. We are not entitled to anything.

People expected the elite spec to be available more or less from the start – instead they are hit with double gated content AND a huge HP cost. Get almost all HP from HoTM – to get those get a lot of masteries first.

So it’s not the grinding as such (or rather, not JUST the grinding) but it’s the way things turned out to be – which is a rather radical change from how GW 2 was before HoT and which was nowhere announced.

People (from my point of view rightly so) expected to be able to play their Chronomancer, Reaper, whatnot a few hours into the game and to enjoy HoT WITH the new elite spec. Instead they have to go through HoT with their old build do unlock the elite spec to then … er … have nothing really new to try it out with.

Assuming is stupid. You and others have no one else but yourselves to blame for “expecting” anything.

Question about original game buyers.

Free players don’t get a lot of the rewards and abilities that those that bought the game do. Also you have gotten to play for three years that free players did not.

This is an expansion, like mosts other games it costs money.

It’s not rocket science. Either pay for the expansion, wait a couple of years for it to go on sale, or don’t buy it at all.

It’s not a grind when players enjoy it, in HoT you are forced to get HP by either pve map completion, or through a wvw ktrain. It’s all about perception, people perceive getting hero points as playing the game in a way they do not want to, and oftentimes repeatedly as they have multiple characters.

So yes, HoT is in fact a grind to a large number of players, to say otherwise is just plain dumb.

And to another large number of players it’s all a grind like OPO said. So…

It’s probably more “plainly dumb” to think that any company can make a game that can satisfy everyone’s expectations. You obviously expected them to satisfy yours to the detriment of others.

I guarantee you that one of their biggest selling points was not that the elite would cost 400 hero points. That little nugget of information was missing from all there presentations prior to release of the game. I wonder how many HoT prepurchases they would have lost had they informed their consumers.

Most likely the same amount that did purchase it because they would have known that is what they had to do.

Bottom line, however, many “assumed” they would get elites with purchase or it would be a short ride to get them. That is what they get for assuming.

What is the problem? You can play right away with elite specs, not fully explored but you won’t get something without work, right? I think it is pretty normal to level up to get the new stuff, or do I miss something? An MMO shouldn’t hand out everything on a silver platter or people will leave in masses after burning through the content when they realize there is nothing to do.

After 3 days I am well over 50% into the elite spec. I hope though they will do some things more accessible like the hero point challenges: make them veterans or easier to kill champs: it’s frustrating to wait for a party/group to fight them.

i honestly dont think i could have been any clearer, i honestly dont

im not asking for EVERYTHING as you put it. im asking to play the new spec i paid for.
and as you so eloquently put it, i DID work for the elite spec, i went to work and made 50 dollars and bought the expansion. Im here to play a game not work. Now all im asking is if its going to change, or im going to take another 50 dollars i worked for and buy a different game.

I’m sorry, but did you see/read something anywhere that said buying the expansion would allow you to play the elite specialization right away?

Then why did you use such hyperbole about being handed everything in the context of this topic, besides trying to suggest people wanted to be handed everything?

Because many of them are. Again, I didn’t accuse everyone. Apparently you are taking my post way too personally. It was directed at those who are indeed acting this way. If you are not, then you shouldn’t have a beef.

Lol, that contradicts already! You say you didn’t accuse anyone, and claim people are.

You don’t have to be part of a group to get offended. Maybe it offended someone else I know, because I’m a carebear like that! But my personal reaction is irrelevant, I’m just calling out the statements said, and it doesn’t require any emotional content to do so

I did not say “anyone” I said “everyone” there is a distinct and glaring difference. So there is no contradiction.

So you didn’t “call out what the statement said”. As far as being offended, particularly on behalf of others on this subject, I really am not bothered by that at all. I am offended at people complaining before there is something to complain about and being ridiculous so…

Just because people will be shunned and ridiculed doesn’t mean we need more reasons though. The gap created won’t be impossible to overcome, but I do think it will be greater than the ascended-exotic gap.

Currently, I can create something close to most “meta” stuff with just some tomes and maybe 100 gold if exotics are good enough.

Actually it is. No one is going to be “gifted” with the elite specs. If you want them, you have to take time to get them. Even in WvW.

I agree to some degree, but I think it is somewhat uneven that WvW’ers must spend so much time outside of WvW to remain competitive in WvW. And Anet has at least addressed the concern, so it is not something entirely subjective. A lot of high end content generally is self-contained. For example, getting higher levels in fractals is for the sake of getting higher levels; there’s no real reason to do that unless you want to do fractals because it affects gameplay absolutely nowhere else. There is where you could reasonably say “You can’t just have that handed to you”

I don’t think the shunning and ridicule will be be increased by any of this. The people doing the ridicule and shunning would be doing the same amount of it no matter what the content. They are awful people IMO, and new content won’t change or increase that.

Actually you can say things are uneven all around. Everyone has the same opportunity and challenges to get what they want in the game. I am not thrilled about having to do WvW & PvP for a legendary, but it is what is required. I just have to deal with it. Just like WvW and PvP people have to deal with PvE content. None of us are getting anything handed to us.

I don’t think it is “everything”. I didn’t say that it was. And yes progression does take many forms. This is one of the forms put before us and we have to deal with it. So anyone can disagree with me or anyone else, it doesn’t change the fact that this is the way it is happening.

Considering all current specs are unlocked by level 80, it is different. You can argue the degree of difference. Then again people complain about being shunned about not having the right class or having the marginal diffrence in ascended gear. I think this could be a bigger deal.

You are correct the “core” lines are all unlocked by 80, not new specs. You are right that it can be a bigger deal, but again, how is that different than it is right now? Having the elite isn’t going to cause the problem or make it worse. There will always be some problem with shunning and ridicule. Having the elite given to you at release will not mitigate this. Also, everyone has the choice and ability to get the correct gear and “meta” builds if they do not want to have the ridicule. That is what anyone has to do in order to not have those jerks shun and ridicule. It’s not right, but there it is.

In a vacuum, I would agree. But in WvW, the difference isn’t just completing content faster or slower.

Actually it is. No one is going to be “gifted” with the elite specs. If you want them, you have to take time to get them. Even in WvW.

I disagree wholeheartedly. Whether or not you disagree with people; what you call complaining is discussion and things can change.

WvW map completion? Obsolete
Gold based trait unlock? Obsolete
Fractal Reward levels and ascended gear? Used to be Soulbound, now Account Bound
Gem Interface? Custom Exchange Added
WvW Gear salvage? Soon possible.

Some people complain not because they hate the game, but because it could be in their opinion better.

It may not change tomorrow, but silencing discussion for future change isn’t acceptable. It took constant pestering on behalf of users to make it happen, and sometimes it does lead to new changes.

In this case “complaining” and “discussion” are semantics. I agree that disagreeing (discussing, complaining) with what is not good in the game is a great way of getting bad content changed. What I find to be silly bordering on ridiculous is complaining about something before it is even implemented. Wait until it drops, see how it is and then start the discussion. Until then, it is just Chicken Little-ing.

That is precisely not what anyone is actually saying, it’s just what a number of people keep accusing others of saying.

That is exactly what SOME people are saying. I never implied that EVERYONE was saying that. Obviously they are not since I agreed with Konig.

So, by same logic, would it be fair to say, “Why did you come to the forum and post, if you were going to ignore every post in the thread before”? But hey, why listen to others if you can just tell them they are asking for everything to be handed to them.

That is logic? I have been following this thread since day one. I have read every post. There is no logic to anything you just said. I didn’t accuse everyone of asking for everything. I have read every post in this thread. You. Have. No. Logic. Only assumptions that are wrong.

Many aren’t even against a way to ‘unlock’ these specs. I expected to do so, via story. Yet that isn’t how it’s being done. It’s being put behind hero points.

Since you were accusing me of not reading posts, I’ll throw that right back at you. I said it was not the best way to unlock the specs. #readingcomprehension

Edited Addendum: Let me add that, we WANT to play the content. We’ve been starved on new content for far too long. However, we do not want to be forced to rush the maps just to get an elite spec on each character.

Who is rushing you to do anything? If you want the Elite Specs right now, then I guess you will have to rush. No one is forcing you to do anything. You choose what you want to do.

I disagree if you think progression of this form is “everything” and there couldn’t be a reason to play it for anything else. [SNIP]
Point is the game is a lot more open ended, and progression takes many forms.

I don’t think it is “everything”. I didn’t say that it was. And yes progression does take many forms. This is one of the forms put before us and we have to deal with it. So anyone can disagree with me or anyone else, it doesn’t change the fact that this is the way it is happening.

Furthermore, people aren’t just complaining about 400 hero points; it’s 400 hero points per character, and it leads to a situation in many progression based games that I never liked personally: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OneManParty Basically, you’re gimping yourself unless you focus on one or several characters, and that results in other choices being very underpowered and often not used at all.

Again, I did not say that all people were complaining about the 400 points. Read the posts, many people are in fact complaining about that very thing. I have 2 mains and 15 alts. So yes it will take a LONG time to get all of them up to Elite Specs. But underpowered, I don’t think so. Many of the elites are no better than the core specs. They are on equal footing IMO and in the opinion of many others.

This is often cyclic, with one character becoming slightly stronger, making it more likely for them to land the finishing blow, or survive the boss’s attacks, leading to them gaining more levels and strength, making it easier for them to kill the enemies and survive and so on…

How is this different than it is right now? These elite specs are not going to change that. The better player with or without an elite spec will always come out on top.

And depending on how the meta evolves, this could be far more impacting than ascended gear especially with the inclusion of raids.

Again, you can choose to spend your time unlocking these points. That is up to you. It will be different for everyone. I personally couldn’t care less about being “meta”. I know that is very important for some, but certainly not all.

This is the way it has been put before us. How we each decide to deal with it is a personal choice. Complaining and bemoaning about it at this point isn’t going to make it change. The expansion is tomorrow. Do you think they are going to change it before then? We either you deal with it or not. There is no debate at this point. Only complaining.

People keep repeating this like programmed drones…
specs are not content, they are the means to play it. It’s not that I don’t want to work for something, I don’t mind that, I just want my spec while doing it.

I want to play hot with a Chronomancer, not play hot and get a chronomancer at the end.

When Nightfall came out, did you get heroes automatically or did you have to play the new game to get them?
When Eye of the North came out, did you get PvE skills automatically or did you have to play the new expansion to get them?
When any of GW1’s games came out did you automatically have all skills – both normal and elites – unlocked?
When you start a new character on GW2 do you have all skills and specializations unlocked and accessible right away?
When you played Mass Effect games did you get all abilities unlocked and accessible right away?

Those are not content. Those are how you play the game. So according to you, they should all be free. Every skill, every ability, every gear should be free. Because “they are the means to play it.”

I’m “sorry” to say but unlocking more means to play a game is part of playing the game.

Every game with progression – which is just about every game ever – has this.

You do not start a Metroid game with the best armor, weapons, and all abilities. You do not start a DOOM game with all guns. You do not start Batman Arkham games with all abilities unlocked. You do not start an Assassin’s Creed game with all weapons and abilities. You do not start ANY game with everything unlocked.

People keep “repeating this like programmed drones” because that’s what it is – it’s asking to be handed an intregal part of the expansion on a silver platter.

You might as well be asking for the function of legendary armor to be given just because you bought the expansion.

Does this mean that their method of locking the elite spec is good? No. But should elite specializations just be automatically unlocked for purchasing HoT? Also no.

^This. I agree 100%.

Why play a game at all if you just given everything? If that was the way games were made you would pay $40-$50 bucks and after you downloaded it, all you would see is a fully loaded character with the end credits rolling.

I am looking forward to unlocking my elites. It gives a sense of accomplishment.

I also agree with Konig that it probably isn’t the greatest way we could have unlocked the elites, but however it is done, I am still glad we are unlocking them and not just having them handed to us.

For those of you saying that those that don’t main an engi or ele don’t understand…

You are wrong.

I main a Ranger and Ele equally. I love both classes. And since I do main an Ele, I can honestly say that we do not need this. Unlike other classes we have access to four different swaps. This would be a programming change for something that is wholly unnecessary. Why not have a third slot for other classes then that might want to use yet another weapon set that they could switch to out of combat? Ridiculous. There has to be limits.

Stop being lazy. Play the class as it is designed to be played.

Until it is confirmed, it is an assumption.

true, but, ‘theory’ ‘hypothesis’, ‘guess’, sounds a lot less arrogant than ‘assumption’, especial when the guess is based on facts, whereas assumption can often be baseless.

Then, in fact, they were NOT in GW1 as I knew they were not. I have heard those assumptions as well and that is all they are. They are no more solid than those of us that assumed the Exalted were going to be Mursaat.

So bone, not thrown. You were just “assuming” that it was thrown.

I have three words. “Crap” & “That Sucks.”

I was hoping for any old lore to seep in and saw the Mursaat as both a nod to the game we all loved that spawned this one and a chance to see if there were both good and bad Mursaat.

After reading the article, I see how they have infused new lore with the Exalted, but would it kill any of those friggin’ content creators to throw us long time GW1 players a bone?

I couldn’t even keep my pet alive playing as a druid. Druid can DIAF.

I really feel bad that you didn’t have fun with the Druid khani. I had a blast and had no problem dealing damage or keeping my pet alive. My ranger is my main and I love playing him.

Maybe it was just the way you had your specs and equipment distributed. Whatever it is, I really hope you find a way to like the druid as much as I have.

I fail to see how duelling causes a terrible community, look at the duelling community in WvW for example.

Just implement it already, with an option to not even be able to be invited to duel as well as (for those that want to duel) a character icon displaying “Duelist” or something meaning you are open to invites to duel which you would then have to accept.

Just gonna quote myself again.

Just because you do not want it, doesn’t mean those that do shouldn’t get it. If you don’t want to duel, don’t click the “Duelist” checkbox to allow duel invites. Simple. Go about your business. The rest of us that enjoy it will find somewhere to congregate and have fun.

I actually find it absurd that there are no fighting pits in LA specifically for duels.

The reverse is also true, just because you want duels, doesn’t mean you should get them or that I should have to see a bunch of stupid little fights going on constantly around the open world maps. Also you don’t have the map chat taunts like “Are you scared to fight me?”

Wanting something doesn’t entitle you to have it.

I don’t think ArenaNet recognizes the importance of this feature.

I find it funny that you think a whole development team / company are unaware of “the importance” of dueling. I would bet they chose not to have dueling on purpose.

Personally, I don’t believe there is any importance to having dueling at all. It may be something you want, but it certainly isn’t something I think is important. I don’t want to wander around the open world watching people fighting each other. I’ll play PvP if I want that.

The new existing class specialties available so far I will not be using on my mains.

I will certainly use Glint on my Revenant main.

Of the ones available so far, I will certainly use the Chronomancer, Reaper, and Daredevil on my alts.

I love a challenge so I will probably find a way to use Tempest and Berzerker on my alts.

Dragonhunter is a no.

They won’t be getting another Legend this time around, but they also won’t be stopping at 6 either. Next expansion they’ll get another Legend, and the expansion after that they’ll see a 7th.

She would be an interesting legend to have though, and highly relevant to modern Tyria.

I agree that she would be relevant to modern day tyria, but I would much rather see older more iconic legends introduced.

Evennia, Lazarus, Togo, Kuunavang, Varesh, and many of the henchmen/heroes would be some of who I would like to see as legends for the Revenant.

You are doing them 2 favors:

1.) Testing their game.

2.) You gave them money for a product you know little to nothing about.

You’d think they’d at least have the decency to have EU servers operating at peak EU hours. Oh well. I remember a time when game companies would let you do actual beta tests(and this is what this is)for free because you were helping them in immeasurable ways. Now you pay to do it.

Preorders are another thing. Preorders made sense before digital distribution. You had to ensure that a retailer had a hard copy of a disc or cartridge game at their place of business so you would get to play it when it came out. There were finite copies. With digital it’s an infinite supply. Why do people pre-order? Oh yeah because game companies act like they are doing you a favor by “allowing” you to pay to test their game. It’s a crock of Dolyak feces.

Um… Sorry, but no.

No one is forcing you to beta test or pre-order anything.

Pre-ordering has nothing to do with making sure you have a copy. Pre-ordering is a revenue generating venue for the company. It is for their benefit, not yours.

Pre-ordering in this case also gives them a cache of people to draw on that fits well into the number of people that they would like to have testing at once.

Again, no-one is forcing you to do anything and it is a crazy claim saying that they are doing you a “favor” by “allowing” us to beta test. There is no truth to that at all.

Go back and re-read my post. I am saying the players are doing ArenaNet 2 favors. You are disagreeing with me because you misunderstand what I am saying but we actually agree.

I did and I don’t think so. Your paragraphs on pre-ordering and paying to beta test define those two “favors” unless you are purposefully contradicting yourself.

Trust me when I say I agree with nothing you said about pre-ordering and paying to beta test.

It is a beta event for TESTING! Not for regular game play. This is for the DEV’s benefit not ours. Our benefit will be when the game drops.

Why would the devs from any country not do a beta test during their peak, alert hours? They don’t care what country any of the testers are from. This isn’t a cultural test, it is a game test.

What issues do I have exactly?

You obviously have some issues, or you wouldn’t have called Ranger the most broken profession in the game.

Is this debatable?

I suppose it is. I have several friends who main a ranger, who have no problem with the class at all. #perspective

You want to know why ranger is believed to be broken?
You realize RANGER was the first profession to be voted for the CDI with devs right? why would ppl vote it first? because it was far and away, the one class that needed the most help. ALL other classes have a somewhat working class mechanic, rangers is BROKEN.

I don’t believe I asked for a reason why people think it is broken. I know why. I certainly don’t need to be educated by you.

I don’t care what your friends think. The fact remains, this class has SERIOUS problems., whether you want to admit it or not…

That is fine, because neither they nor I care if you care what we think. Again, I didn’t say I did or did not think it has a problem. I said I have friends that do not have a problem with it. Maybe you don’t understand the word “perspective.”

Its medicore to average in literally every role possible and a lot of that has to do with the class mechanic being beyond awful. I’ve played my ranger through everything (full ascended for all fracs, WvW zerg and roaming, champion hunter title in sPvP). I switched over to ele and warrior to see how other classes fared because I felt like i’ve accomplished everything I wanted on my ranger. It was an eye opening moment when I switched mains…. it was incredible how much more useful I felt in a party or how much more dps i could have been doing if I didn’t kitten myself playing ranger.

Well, good for you. You now feel special.

Is ranger currently playable? it is, absolutely. but if you like mediocrity, go for it. Other classes do most things miles better than ranger. Other classes don’t have a malfunctioning class mechanic as bad as ranger does. Thats why ranger is believed to be in a bad shape.

You ranted all of this because I said that something is debatable because of perspective. Melodramatic much?

I bet all the names you guys have in mind were already taken by other games.

Daredevil is great,if the first thing that comes to your mind is the Marvel character, well, thats too bad. It is not copyrighted by Marvel

There are several threads that popped up after the druid was announced where people were offering up names for the specialties.

Some of them were awesome and unique. It can be done.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter. I’m one of the people in the “Dragon Hunter is a stupid name for the Guardian elite specialization.” But as someone said above, it doesn’t impact gameplay. You are still a thief or guardian you don’t actually change into those names.

As far as the name Daredevil. I’m kind of “meh.” It’s just my opinion, but it doesn’t seem like a whole lot of creativity was put into the names. I don’t care as long as a whole lot of creativity was put into the traits and skills.

I think we need an Entitlement Forum. All threads, such as this one, where people are claiming that they should get something they feel entitled to for no good reason could be posted there.

Beta’s are not used for fairness, equality of play, player advantage, or anything of the sort. Beta testing is for… …wait for it… …TESTING!!!

No one deserves to play their favorite class during this beta or that one. They could hold a beta to see if characters of any class can run around in circles more effectively if they needed to. They test for what they need to know when they need to know it. It isn’t for your pleasure equality.

It is just my opinion, but I think devs either laugh out loud at the ridiculousness of these kinds of threads or they shake their head in wonder at the obtuseness of people in general.
