I am hoping for more impressive architecture as well. LA from GW1 was the capitol of Kryta. Cities in GW1 for the most part didn’t look grandiose, but LA felt like you were in a bigger, more important place.
I do hope they at least give a nod to the nautical LA we started with in this game however. Not a rickety old boat, but something that would remind us of the recently destroyed city as well.
So what does everyone think of an item that can be earned to unlock waypoints. Mayne a consumable that’s account bound so you can send it to that particular character and it will unlock waypoints. The waypoints unlocked could be specific to the age of the game, i.e. old world (tyria excluding south sun and dry top).
Thoughts?
Also not a gemstore item kthnx.
I have 5 Characters with 100% world completion and four others that are 75% or more. I have 22 toons altogether. So it isn’t as if I haven’t done this a few times myself.
I create a new alt with the knowledge that I will have to explore and run around if I want to play with that toon in any given zone. And that is the way I believe that you have to look at it.
Giving a waypoint unlock would probably cause a kittenstorm with many players that have put in hours of time exploring.
I understand your pain and some of the boredom in running waypoints. I’ve been there. However, doing so is part of the game. We all have to do it and that is a cost of creating a character.
Still, I don’t think just a carte blanche ‘unlock waypoints’ item (gemstore or not), would be something they would consider in the near future for a lot of reasons. Especially with HoT on the horizon.
Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Thanks for understanding the merge. I’ll probably be adding more, as this is an often-asked question!
LOL. I think you are awesome Gaile, but “adding more” to a yes or no question just struck me as funny.
We are either going to get slots or not.
I really like the concept of the specialization so far. The name? Not so much.
Just my opinion, but the name is hugely grandiose for a Guardian. Guardians guard not hunt. Yes, there may be precedent in other fantasy literature (hello Hobbit), but it just seems a bit ridiculous to me.
I’ll be the guy who didn’t buy the expansion because of hobosacks.
If they do fix hobosacks, I’ll probably do both.
Really? Please tell me this is meant to be humor. If it isn’t, I apologize, but I cannot fathom that hobo sacks would be the sole cause of a person not getting the expansion. It made me actually laugh out loud.
I will be doing both. I will level my Rev to 80 using a level 20 scroll and then tomes. Then I will explore the new content. Learn both of them at the same time.
Less joke weapons and less ridiculous over the top ones as well. Pistol and scepter are prime examples of both extremes. I think they are both horrible.
Everyone has their own opinions, but I actually thought that the scepter (Meteorlogicus) was one that actually looks more legendary. It doesn’t look cartoonish and there is nothing out there like it.
The pistol I can agree with. Many of the others do look less than impressive for a legendary item.
I am hoping for legendaries that look solely unique from other game weapons. Like many have said, I would also like it to look like something someone would say, “That’s the legendary (Fill in the Name) isn’t it?!?” Instead of “That thing is a legendary weapon?” To which they proceed to laugh at you.
I will have two. One human and either a Norn or Sylvari.
OP, I understand that you had expectations and that is fine. That being said, however, I think if you were expecting all of that, you were setting yourself up for disappointment. Many of those things will probably never be in game. Monk is the glaring example of this. And I personally am glad there are no mounts. Many of your expectations are probably nonstarters.
Many expectations that many players had and wanted ARE happening with this expansion. i.e. Guild Halls, 3rd Heavy Class, and Specializations. So it isn’t as if ANet is ignoring the community.
The other thing that baffles me is that people are “disappointed” even before the expansion is released. Again, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Maybe you should just try to enjoy it for what it is.
So do we get a character slot for our money?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: jheryn.8390
I’d like at least one. Each GW expansion added 2 new classes and 2 new character slots, so I think since we are getting 1 new class, we get 1 new character slot.
Those were not expansions, they were stand alone games that you could connect with Prophecies and each other. The only real expansion for GW1 was Eye of the North which would work with any of the three stand alones. It had no new character slots.
A game tries to please everybody ends up pleasing nobody. Good games tend to be very well defined in what they attempt to do. Once you’re defined your goal, you can allocate your resources appropriately and hire the right people for the job. Look at Hearthstone for example. Meant to be a side project on Blizzard’s roster and ended up being such a solid card game that it holds consistently high viewer count on Twitch. Once they got the core gameplay down, they could focus on the aspects that make the game have that high quality feeling: card animations, voice-acting, sound effects, card backs, interactive environment, changing playfield and so on.
Story, PvP mode, WvW mode, persistent world. You’ve got to like the whole packet or you’d be wasting your time on sub-par game. For the person who is focusing on one mode, there’s lots of better games available due to how thinly split Anet’s resources are.
I understand what you are trying to say, but everything you have said is purely subjective. I don’t play PvP and rarely WvW. I’m mainly a PvE person. I play with my guild and on my own at times. I like they world and skills as they are. I don’t think the game is sub-par. Again, saying something is “better” is a matter of opinion not fact.
With the amount of people that play the game, I think there are a lot of people out there who would not consider the game sub par or that the area of play they partake in (whether one or three) is bad. If they do, I have no idea why they are playing.
So on subject, I will indeed buy the expansion and enjoy all the aspects that apply to me. I will purchase with the understanding that Anet has listened to the player base as a whole and implemented what they see as fun and necessary for both the immediate future and continued longevity. I won’t be deluded and believe that everything I would like will be included, but will be happy with what I get.
The thing is, if they don’t have a starter zone to level and learn, a very large number of people (based on how many have level 20 scrolls, tomes and writs that the game is handing out like candy) will simply pull out the “instant level 80” card and bypass the whole learning process.
If they have a new starter zone, some will still instant 80 but many will take the time to level there and learn the mechanics of the new biomes and even some of the instant 80s will stay there to check out the new map and learn their new profession that way.
[SNIP]
Maybe you reread what he wrote, my response was valid.
The point is a new zone is unnecessary to get people to learn the class. One way or another they are going to learn the class by level 80. A starting zone only helps you learn the basis, you rarely get enough time and have access to all your tools to be proficient in the class. Also the most of the people who ding to 80 probably already have the experience to learn the class without having to waste hundreds of thousands being a starting zone.
I did re-read as you suggested and I am still correct. He never indicated that a new starter zone would prevent people from instant leveling to 80. He just said that with a new starter area, some people might take the time to level the slow way.
Your point that a new class could level anywhere is correct. Your point about him saying that a new starting area would prevent inta-leveling to 80 was not. Your point about a new starting area being worthless was also not right. Worthless is subjective. Worthless to you maybe. Not to everyone.
My point is that a new starting area COULD be beneficial to some. Some would enjoy it just as a way to start leveling a new toon. Others may just enjoy it as a new map. Whatever the case may be, calling something “worthless” before it even happens is presumptuous and biased.
The thing is, if they don’t have a starter zone to level and learn, a very large number of people (based on how many have level 20 scrolls, tomes and writs that the game is handing out like candy) will simply pull out the “instant level 80” card and bypass the whole learning process.

A new starting zone wasn’t going to stop people from instantly reaching 80 and skipping the new content.
Also a new starting zone isn’t going to be enough content to level through 80 either. So why would arenanet carenif they instant ding to 80?Why bother making a new starting zones when the old ones are perfectly OK. As for lore reasons I really doubt it would take more than a few hours to hand wave it vs creating new worthless maps.
Um… what???
Silvermember, I think if you actually read his post, he says, “If they have a new starter zone, some will still instant 80.” He said that a new zone would not stop some from instant 80ing. So why make it sound like he did?
I also don’t see anywhere where he indicated that would or would not care if people instant leveled to 80. Yet you asked him why they would. Do you think he has some kind of inside information?
And how do you know if a map would be “worthless” or not.
A new leveling zone, especially if it has three levels like the rest of the new Maguuma maps, may be zone that could help level a new character quite high. We don’t know. So there is no reason to punch holes or contradict anything he was saying.
All he was indicating with what you quoted was that a new starter area MAY encourage new players or old players with new revenants to stay there and learn the new profession. Heck there were people in GW1, that stayed in pre-searing just because they liked it there. So “worthless” is in the eye of the beholder.
As far as the grandchildren reference, why do you play games at all if that is going to be your legacy? No game you play today will exist when your grandchildren come along. What would be the difference between telling your grandchildren what you said above and saying, “Well, I had the most amazing experience playing a game that doesn’t exist now and you have never heard of.” Either way, your grandchild will not care. So by your measure, no one should play games at all. Yet, you obviously are.
- There are games whose goal is to waste your time, and there are games that offer an experience. I can see how someone who picks up a game like Civilization would utilize it’s gameplay to cultivate curiosity of history and politics. I can see how chess players would transfer their analytical skills to other tasks in life. Playing a role in a game with actual story could help to appreciate different viewpoints to life. Even first person shooters are said to develop hand-eye coordination and perception.
What does this teach? Turn your brain off, join the zerg, beat the bad guy and collect your RNG loot. Gives you a rush to see rare item drop. Rinse and repeat.
I don’t think everything has to have some deep didactic purpose. There’s nothing wrong with taking some time to decompress and relax your brain. I use the game to relieve stress, and relieving stress is healthy.
^This. I play the game for the same reason. Stress relief.
That being said, this game like a first person shooter can also increase eye/hand coordination. There are many combo skills and techniques that take thought and skill.
If you choose to zerg, that is your decision but it is not the whole of game play. There is plenty to do individually or in small groups.
There are actual stories in this game. Many of them. On top of the living story and the personal story, the world is rich with dialog and characters that add to the lore and history of Tyria.
Zenith, if you are not finding these things, it is not the fault of the game. If you don’t enjoy them, that is also not the fault of the game.
But who says, let’s say, a Mesmer’s MH sword won’t have new skills when they are specialized as “Chronomancer”?
^This. Or that the one handed weapons like the shield are going to be strictly off hand or main hand. What if the shield is designed to be a two handed weapon for the Mesmer? After all, the great sword for a mesmer is not a melee weapons but a ranged one.
The trailer showed that mesmer with sword MH and shield OH.
The thing is that mesmers always have a different approach for weapons.. so I won’t judge if the shield will suck on mesmer, I’ll just have my mats ready to craft the legendary shield if I like it “which I hope I will”
I agree with you 100%. I probably didn’t say it well, but I was just trying to illustrate that we don’t know what the weapons will do or how they will affect others, so it is a little early to start complaining about who gets what.
I keep seeing so many people say things like “Hmm, I don’t think I’ll buy the expansion because for probably 30$ I’m just getting a new class and a bit more.”
- Have you thought that maybe free time is precious? Why would I spend any money on a game that’s going to be soul-crushing grind that makes me question the meaning of my existence? If the game doesn’t teach you anything and if it’s not even fun, what’s the point? Are you going to tell your grandchildren about that time when you farmed 500 gold and 15k achievement points on a game that no longer exists?
Maybe he has considered that. Maybe his enjoyment of the game differs from yours. I don’t think you should be judging another players experience based on your own.
What you see as “soul-crushing grind” is just game play for another person.
As far as the grandchildren reference, why do you play games at all if that is going to be your legacy? No game you play today will exist when your grandchildren come along. Not surprising at all. I’m sorry to say this, but anyone who thought there would be more than one specialization per profession was simply feeding their own hype. That disapointment you feel is your own doing. arenanet never hinted that there being more than one.
^This. All I will add to this is that since we honestly don’t know how specializations will work with each class, why start bemoaning them until you find out the details. It is like people are actively looking for something to be unhappy about. Sheesh!
Simple. I main a Ranger and being a Druid has nothing even remotely to do with my class design. So I was hoping against hope there was at least one option available to me that was not that. I couldn’t give a flying kitten about staves, or shooting roots.
It isn’t simple. No one likes to hear it, but it isn’t all about you. There are many people who are very excited about this. They can’t make everyone happy.
I main a Ranger too. Since we really have no clue as to how specializations will truly work, I’m not going to start making judgments about it now. Initially it doesn’t sound like it will fit into my play style either, but I’m not going to know that until we learn how will work.
Also, we are getting one specialization now, but Colin Johanson has said in an interview that they are setting this up for future specializations to come.
Not surprising at all. I’m sorry to say this, but anyone who thought there would be more than one specialization per profession was simply feeding their own hype. That disapointment you feel is your own doing. arenanet never hinted that there being more than one.

No, they are not being to secretive. What they choose to share with us is up to them, not us.
With the track record of the this community, I am surprised they share anything at all. Mainly for the reasons the OP are listing. They share anything and they get beat up for it. No matter what they share it either isn’t enough or it is not good enough.
If you want to know everything about the expansion before it is even put out, where is the fun of discovering anything?
No one is pointing out that the three “Mursaat” in the trailer have different colours?
There’s blue, red and yellow. Also they only have two energy tendrils coming out of their backs instead of the typical 14 black feathers. The one at the end also looks nothing like a Mursaat in body and attacking stance.
I’m not at all convinced these are Mursaat, in fact they appear to be much more like Djinn.
Just because we didn’t see other colored Mursaat, does that mean they do not exist?
There were different Mursaat with different colored auras. They were bosses, but still did not have the same aura as others.
Since we are not sure what those “black feathers” actually were, who is to say that they were not simply cosmetic or were not actually part of their bodies.
The Mursaat were largely shrouded in mystery, even during GW1. 250 years removed we have no idea what has happened to them, if anything. We don’t actually have enough factual information about their society and their physiology to make huge sweeping declarations about them.
Also, many creatures have undergone artistic changes between GW1 and GW2. The krait certainly come to mind.
i think its actually….to late…most ppl that cared, dont care for the game itself anymore, since they promised to much and gave nothing.
Did someone elect this person to speak for “most ppl that cared?”
Funny I didn’t receive a ballot.
I love it when people make claims of which they have absolutely no proof.
Yep. One for my main and probably much later another for my 2nd account.

With all of the different in game hints and evidence of the White Mantle and Mursaat, I do think that it is a good possibility that what we saw is the Murssat.
That being said, I have to agree with what draxynnic has been saying. We don’t truly know what this race is. That city did indeed look like what we have seen in Vabbi. We have several other races like the djinn that could be possibilities.
On a purely cosmetic front, I think that they do look like Mursaat. We have seen lore manipulated and somewhat reformed in GW2, so I am not dismissing that they could indeed be Mursaat.
I also agree that what the Mursaat did was evil and not just self preservation. By the same token, I see evil and good in all the races we get to play in GW2. I also see that the Char are now allies with humans. Tentative, maybe, but allies all the same. I would find it plausible that there would be good Mursaat too.
I am sure we will find out soon exactly who they are through announcements.
I will create a Revenant on day one. It looks like a class well suited to my playstyle. I am very excited about the specializations that Gaile brought up. So I may create the new class right away, but I haven’t decided what I will do first when the expansion hits the shelves.
Step 1: Pop an Instant-20 Birthday scroll to get past all of the most intolerable parts of the NPE rubbish.
Step 2: Level normally until bored.
Step 3: Level Tomes.
This is probably what I will do. I was considering leveling normally, but after doing that with 10 toons, I’m done.
I hate the beginning levels, so popping the 20 scroll. Plenty of time to get familiar with the class between 20 and 30. Then if I am bored leveling, tomes to the end.
I use them as the OP said, in niche situations. They are great when you need them, but not as a full time equipped weapon. Well, not for me anyway.
Then again they would have to redo Lions Arch decor seeing how the city has changed.
I agree. I wish they would give a holiday to each one of the racial cities.
1. Hoelbrak is perfect for Wintersday
2. The Black Citadel is creepy enough for Halloween.
3. Divinity’s Reach already has the Queen’s Jubilee
4. [SPOILER] After the events so far of LS2, The Grove would be good for Dragon Bash if it returns.
5. Rata Sum – I’m sure something will eventually be put into game they could have.I don’t think the Queen’s Jubilee event will return since that was mainly an event to introduce Scarlett at the end.
Yes but we still had the events (mostly) this year tied to the festival of the winds. That is what I meant. I foresee the arena and duels continuing.
Completely agree OP! I’m in.

Jesus, someone’s being defensive. Holy hell man.
Not defensive, just reactionary to condescending and inappropriate comments such as the quote above.
I wasn’t being condescending, and there was nothing inappropriate about my post. You, sir, have let something get under your skin that inappropriately influenced your reading of my post. And I don’t appreciate being replied to in such a manner as what your previous post displayed.
You don’t believe you were?
You accused me of abandoning the discussion of airships (your words) when I did not. I only expressed my dislike for the idea. You went on at great length to discuss a proposed beacon system as if I was not only ignorant of a what it was but how it would work. You told me how I should structure my posts (what you want to see, etc. again your words). You informed me that both airships and open world had been abandoned as a topic but I was responding to a brand new post about those very same things. So obviously the topic had not been abandoned. Heck, you are still posting about them.
You said you didn’t appreciate the way I responded to you. That is a two way street. I didn’t ask for your initial feedback either, which came across as condescending to me whether you meant it or not.
I am opposed to airships as guild halls for MANY reasons. I could go on about all the reasons I think they are not good, but many others have covered most of those reasons pretty well and they don’t need to be rehashed.
I never personally called you out for liking them and would not. I also would most certainly not use the language you did to respond. So truly who is actually defensive? You are the one who commented on my first post. Not the other way around. If you open up dialog by responding to someone else’s post, you might want to acknowledge that they may not like what you say or interpret your words as you think they were written down.

Yep a Beacon mechanic is a way to show of your guild and its progress.
Chris
Woo Hoo a BACON mechanic!!! Who doesn’t love bacon? I’m in!
Oh… Beacon mechanic. Nope. I’m out.
I’m just not into the whole airship as a guild hall. Especially if guild halls are open world instead of instanced. How would an airship fit into an open world concept with other ground halls. I just don’t see it happening. Or happening well.
The airship guild halls were only one suggested way of implementing the halls system, and only one suggestion of how the beacon system would be implemented.
Please, don’t abandon the discussion just because you don’t like the idea of airships. For starters, it’s already been essentially taken off the table (for now) in the discussion. So, feel free to just speak your mind about what you think would work well, or what you would like to see.
First, I understand the beacon concept and what it entails. Where did I indicate that I did not?
Second, I understand airships were only one way of implementing a guild hall system. Again, did I give any indication that I thought otherwise?
Third, I’m not abandoning the discussion about airships or any guild hall. I am contributing to it. Expressing what you do NOT want to see is as important as what you do. Much earlier in this thread I expressed what I would like to see. Please don’t attempt to direct my or others conversations to fit your idea of how conversation should flow.
Really, there are hundreds of ways the “beacon” system could be implemented. It’s just a name that was taken to mean, “Way of expressing your guild’s presence and achievement in the world”. It could literally be anything, not necessarily a physical beacon, or an airship, or anything else already discussed.
Again, I understand the beacon system. I never said nor did I indicate that I had any misconceptions about its function. If you read that so literally into my humor attempt then I don’t know what to say to you.
(Chris already said to kind of step away from the “open world” system for the time being, and it was pretty much assumed that the airship guild halls would be an open world thing, especially how they would show their presence.)
I have been following the thread closely and I also know this. But since airships were a part of the conversation I quoted and they were assumed to be an open world concept, then doesn’t it make sense that I comment in that context? Especially if I don’t find the idea appealing?
I like knowing what people want and do not want. I would not have responded to your post except that I don’t believe that anyone should be dictating other peoples’ input. And that is what you were attempting to do with me. I think people, including myself, should also say what they don’t want to see as long as it is not done in a hateful way. If you took my post in question as such, I assure you it was not meant that way.
I believe you need to accept when people feel inclined to express what they do not want as long as it is done in a non-hostile fashion. Also do not patronize or condescend when they do because that is how your post came across to me.
Yep a Beacon mechanic is a way to show of your guild and its progress.

Inane question. This may be a fantasy game, but there are no crystal balls that can see the future to answer such a question.
The flying carpet is a mount that was just added into the game. How do you anti-mounts feel about that?
If you feel nothing, then I am sure adding animal mounts will not change that.
Now ANet, add some animal mounts.
It’s not a mount. It is a toy. No speed boost. No combat ability.
So if they had actually added a mount, then I would care as I am one of those anti-mount people.
As it is, I feel nothing because it isn’t a mount.
So you wouldn’t care if a ridable dolyak was put in the gemstore when it is called a toy, has no speedboost, and has no combat ability?
I couldn’t possibly care less. If they start adding genuine mounts that give advantage such as speed boosts etc., that is a true mount. It would also be something forcing players to buy from the gem store to gain advantage that others can easily afford that others may not.
So ride around on your toys, I don’t care because you have no advantage by doing so.
The flying carpet is a mount that was just added into the game. How do you anti-mounts feel about that?

As for guild alliance halls. They could work, and would be neat. The only issue would be, what happens if the alliance breaks apart? who gets the hall? Does it go away if the alliance fails and a new one has to be started all over? If anything, that could be a completely new and different CDI if (or after
) guild halls are implemented.
That sounds as complicated as a divorce :P
and chances are, it would be!
All the more reason to keep things separate imo. Fewer peeved people in the long run.
Note we have come up with two valid options that can also be part of the design.
1: Small Guilds aren’t Excluded.
2: Alliances can create a shared Guild Hall.Chris
Just want to throw my 2 cents in.
1. I love the idea that small guilds will not be excluded. I belong to a medium sized guild for people over 30 years old. We are a big enough guild to do anything for upgrades and that is great. I also belong to a very small guild that consists of me, my closest friend from my other guild and his sons. They are not old enough to join our other guild. I would like the opportunity for my smaller guild to have access to a guild hall. Even if it is a basic hall. As stated above in GW1 players with a one person guild could have any of the halls available to anyone else.
2. I think a shared/created guild hall with alliance members is a disaster waiting to happen. The alliance breaks up and who gets the guild? Who decides which upgrades to do? Arguments over initial hall set up. It just screams “bad situation” to me.
Give alliance members access to your guild’s hall if you wish, but keep halls separate.
One more comment along this line. Who gets to pick what the hall looks like, which upgrades to do, etc.? Will it be the Guild Leader’s decision alone? Do officers and members get a say? Just curious what you might think.
Title says it all, this year PLEASE PLEASE bring it back.
^This. +1. It was so fun. If Anet thinks we got to much loot, then cut the payoff. The dungeon was fun. It was stupid to do away with it in the first place.
Overview
Guild halls built by guild members that would facilitate as a meeting place for individual guilds and their guests.
Goal
To allow individual guilds to have a place to meet and organize apart from the open world. To give guilds something more to build together besides guild activities. To build more guild socialization without having to resort to outside of game methods such as TS and Websites.
Function
For location, I really don’t care as long as they are instanced. If mists or as part of the explorable world, either is fine with me. If in the explorable world, I would like them to be implied buildings rather than actual buildings that would clutter and give urban sprawl to maps.
For what its actual function is, I see it mainly as a meeting place. I am not certain that I would like to see crafting stations, vendors, and other such amenities. I think a guild bank in the instance would be the exception. Other NPC vendors and amenities will severely deplete the population of the general world. I think that these places could become larger and more intricate as the guild decides to work on them. Lakes, buildings, trees, landmarks, animals, etc., etc., could be added as the guild chose to work on these aesthetic things.
Also these places could function as a Hall of Monuments. The guild hall itself could house it’s accomplishments as did the Hall of Monuments did in GW1 for individuals.
This would not be an area to replace world services but as a place for guild members to improve their surroundings, meet for guild purposes, and view guild accomplishments.
Associated Risks
Little as I proposed, but I foresee weakening of the explorable world should major services be added to guild halls. Also I believe that any personal home ideas have no place here either. If such things were ever considered they should be as part of a racial home instance.

I think these halls would open up further creative ideas and development for creators of the game. I think the devs have their jobs because they are amazingly creative. If they gave us beautiful but simple halls to begin with, they would have much room to add to them in the future.
I’m sick and tired of all the wispy, curly, cutesy weapons. I would like some weapon sets that look like weapons. There are a LOT of skins from GW1 even that they could recycle that look very cool and look like real weapons.
I’m happy to buy a skin when I like them, but give me some that I actually like.
Things I am nostalgic for:
1. Larger area “feel”. As Vayne said it wasn’t actually larger, but felt that way due to path direction.
2. Larger world. In contrast to #1, by this time we had much more explorable content and areas. I wish I had more places to go.
3. Creatures that are not in game that still could be like Gargoyles, Life Pods, Thorn Stalkers, Necrid Horsemen, Vaettir, various mandragor, various dinosaurs, hydra etc., etc., etc.
4. I miss many places that have been wiped from existence or conveniently placed just out of zones. I know that Orr caused a big flood, blah, blah, blah, but if it covered the whole of Tyrian existence there would be no people left alive. I find it convenient that many loved places are either now underwater (Temple of Ages, Droknar’s Forge) or just non-existent.
5. The more epic feel of personal instances. I know this is a MMO and things have to be handled on a different scale, but during the personal story instances, I think they could have been more challenging and memorable like the GW1 missions.
Anet and their (un)paid shills…
Forum trolls and their lack of anything to say other than trying to derail threads…
If you don’t have anything constructive to say about the topic, for or against, then move on. Those trying to discuss intelligently do not need your derision.
The game as I see it is working fine. That being said, I find even the new content becoming stale. It just doesn’t make me want to keep playing.
The new collections are fine, but other than grinding for items to complete them, we are still left with the same content.
I just don’t find anything to capture my attention much anymore. I’ve played about everything in this game that you can do (with the exception of sPvP) and have enjoyed it. Now however, I find myself not caring about logging in, even to do dailies.
I just believe that something more than the LS has to be interjected to hold my interest.
I dunno, I loved the original Guild Wars, but I feel like I’m more connected to the NPCs and characters of Guild Wars 2, personally.
But if you like the original Guild Wars more, that’s great. But you don’t need to insult people or assert your opinions on others.
I didn’t notice anyone trying to assert their opinions on anyone else. Even reading back through the thread everything seems very civil for a GW2 forum thread.
Mostly it is just people expressing what they do and don’t like.
For me, I love GW2, but it doesn’t hold me enthralled like GW1 did. I’m not trying to tell anyone else that they should feel the same.
It’s not just the cut scenes though. The world reinforced the story in Guild Wars 1. You were never ever really out of your story. Whatever you were doing in the world pertained to your story.
If you think about Guild Wars 1, the game, the ENTIRE game, was your personal story.
You just can’t do that in an MMO.
That is very true that an true MMO cannot acomplish that. Even saying that however, one of the things that made GW1 so compelling was the excellent storytelling and lore built around it. While a true MMO cannot completely wrap you in your personal story at every turn, what story that is there can be engrossing and engaging. As much as I thought the personal story was OK, I didn’t feel that sense of eagerness to find out what happened next.
I’m not bashing the game because I love the game. However, all the things I loved about GW1 were NOT in GW2 as advertised. I loved the story. Every story in GW2. Side quests everything. None of them felt rote as much here does to me.
I think the new season the LS is a good start on making my involvement in the world more personal, it still hasn’t grabbed me like the stories in the first game. Not saying that won’t happen, but it’s not there yet for me.

But it’s much easier to do that sort of thing in a completely instanced world. This is why stories in MMOs tend to involve the open world less, or your characters story most often isn’t tied into the story of the world. They’re separate. There are advantages and disadvantages to both systems. I did feel more attached to my Guild Wars 1 characters.
But I still prefer the open world of an MMO to the instanced, linear game that was Guild Wars 1.
I agree with you here too.
I like the open world. However we do have instances in our personal stories and in the LS. None of the storytelling here has made me feel as connected to the world as I did in GW1.
And to be honest, the interview dialog scenes of the personal story paled in comparison to the cut scenes in GW1. If we were going to have less cut scenes, they could have at least made them spectacular and engaging. The two character conversations were poor at best.
I’m gonna reply with the same reply I give to people who are extremely unhappy about the game but give unrealistic suggestions: If you’re that distraught and the game makes you upset, then why are you still playing?
I for one enjoy GW2 VERY much. I try to branch out to all areas of the game, sPVP, WvW, PvE, Fractals, World Bosses, Guild Missions. And I have a BLAST. Part of what made GW1 so great was the story. And GW2 is finally building on that aspect. That is the only area where I felt something was missing in GW2 at launch. But now that they’re adding depth and breadth to the game’s story, I think GW2 is coming into its own. If you don’t want to be along for the ride, then… don’t.
I understand and agree with what you are saying, but I think it is more than just the story that is lacking in GW2. I think it is the connection to more than just a few NPC’s.
We had so much connection with Cynn, Mhenlo, Koss, Vekk, and many, many other NPC’s. Yes through the story they became characters we felt for. Other than the three order mentors, I don’t get that feeling from any of the GW2 NPC allies. I realize they are trying to build a connection with the DE2 NPC’s, but none of them have the same depth that the GW1 characters had IMO.
I think not only the story and it’s superb telling gave us connection to the game, but it’s very interesting characters did as well.
One thing I will also add. There was a lot more in GW1 than just killing things required to complete missions. Sure dungeons have some puzzles, etc. But most ‘missions’ here are just kill ’em and complete.
This accusation gets tossed around a lot – that certain people who post such high praise for Anet’s decisions might be rewarded in some way. I haven’t reached a decision on this yet, so I thought the best approach is just to come right out and ask.
Will someone at ANet please tell the rest of us if you reward certain people for their forum comments? If you could just issue a flat out denial then that might diminish the number of accusations, especially right now.
We do not pay players to post on the forums nor do we make use of shill or sock puppet accounts. Honestly, I’m surprised if anybody takes these accusations seriously.
If they do well… To quote Forrest Gump, “Momma always says…”
