New Halloween Decorations expensive

Our guild is what I would consider medium sized. Around 100 guild members with about 50 of them consistently active. We really don’t have much problem getting what we need out of the 50 active players.

We are willing to do things like getting the Essences of Light as a group. We all chip in for things we want to build.

Our members are very generous and give A LOT of gold worth of items and well…. …gold.

Yes these things are not cheap, but part of it is working together as a guild to be able to afford them.

Mini Oxideciomus the Shadow Raven

If I am right then there are 12 days left of the Halloween event, so in order to get this mini I would need to farm 10000 candy corn a day to get the 120 candy corn cobs needed to buy the mini.

My question therefor is, is it worth it?

I suppose it depends on what you want. Personally it isn’t worth it to me. I would much rather buy the 20 slot bags. But that is me.

I have a friend who is a mini fanatic and that person is grinding as hard as possible to get the raven. Again, it just depends on how important it is to you. Good luck!!

There were more people than I could count in my instance and we waited for an hour and not one sign of any of you. You cannot tell me that you didn’t know there were going to be many instances. Couldn’t you have divided yourselves up a bit?

Why tell us about the In-Game Events “with Devs” if only a very small minority of players actually got to attend? Very disappointing.

Elite skills seem underwhelming.

PS can anybody explain how “mortar” + ‘space’ + “does” is a bad word and needs to be censored?

Yes because of the last three letters of mortar and the first letter of does spells a word that is banned by the filter. Same would be with the words “doesn’t” and “it”.

The filter on here is rather poor IMO.

I believe that tomes were discontinued because for many they were difficult to use. Yes they were unique and I wish they would have made their use easier rather than getting rid of them. Of course, they revitalized the tomes a little bit with the druid who now has a tablet.

I think the long cool downs are there so that these slightly higher in power skills don’t eclipse and render regular utilities into sub-par status. I believe they want us to utilize the whole skill bar effectively.

As far as specific spells, we can all name examples of ones that are super good here and there, but if you look at elites as a whole they are only slightly higher in power than normal utilities.

Elite skills seem underwhelming.

I don’t disagree. I’m not sure, however, that Anet intended for Elite Skills to be vastly more powerful than other utilities. IMO I think they just wanted them slightly more powerful or unique.

Some of the mesmer’s elites are not game changing powerful in PvE but they are unique and fun. Different than their other utility skills. That is what is lacking IMO.

To many of the other professions skills aren’t that much different than other utilities and therefore don’t feel very “elite” because of this.

In all fairness, I was probably wondering if I was actually tripping while reading this thread. :p Then I pinched myself and was incredibly disappointed.

In the end, I’m ultimately in the forgotten third camp who looks into this and is like “wat?”

LOL. I really don’t even really care about the issue. I just thought it would be nice to suggest RPers have their own channel to get away from everyone else and that just caused a kittenstorm.

So when I sit back and think about it, ultimately I would gravitate to your camp.

Did you just type that while misquoting that other post in a less than flattering fashion?

I hope you have no glass in your house.

Misquote what? “That other post” is very descriptive.

Uhh… obviously the text that was quoted in my post?? There was total of 2 quotes in my previous post, connect the dots on which “the other post” could possibly mean.

Or at least I can’t find where penelopehannibal.8947 typed “blah blah blah”

Snip: Repeated blah, blah, blah.

Snip: Repeated delusion about the mass RP hate on this thread.

I give up on the rest, I’m off to go RP.

When I click on the post link, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Something-MUST-be-done-about-the-RP-in-DR/page/2#post6355060 it goes to a post that looks nothing like what you quoted.

Dude, you are trippin’. I didn’t quote you anywhere on this thread. I looked at each of my posts and yours. No misquoting of you. No mentioning of you. No interaction with you. So again, WTH are you talking about?

And if you read when I responded to penelopehannibal.8947 as I did, it was in response to his intentional, snarky misquoting of me saying “Something about lumps.” It was an in kind reply, not a misquote.

I never said you quoted me. What’s that have to do with anything? I think you want to give yourself the pinch to see if you’re okay.

And yes, I understand that you were being snarky in return. I just found it funny and decided to continue in that manner.

Ah, sorry. From the way it reads, it’s as if you are getting on to me for misquoting both you and that other guy. I was just wondering, why is this guy bagging on me for misquoting him? I didn’t say a thing to him.

Sorry, I didn’t get that you were joking in return. Ugh. Maybe I do need to pinch myself. This has been how my whole day has gone so far.

RPers don’t bother me, but as someone else mentioned, wouldn’t an RP exclusive channel be a good thing for everyone?

Non-RP people could filter RP out and RP people could have their own channel to talk and not be bothered by all the non-RP chat.

Win-win IMO.

Yes and No. Yes because RPer’s could hook-up and organize better without emoting others to death. No because Rpers have always been a “targeted group” to be grieved by those that think wrecking other peoples game play gives them first seat on the short bus…

Such a channel would have to have moderators, which I’m all for.

I agree that RPers are a targeted group. They get targeted in say chat as well. They are going to get targeted irregardless. It is a shame, but it is going to happen unfortunately because there are always hateful people out there.

What I see here is a lot of people on both sides getting all bent out of shape for the suggestion of creating such a channel. Who cares? Use it or not. Is having one more option really that horrible? With a few exceptions, I see very few people asking that this new channel be created and all role players be exiled to RP on that channel only. If they are, then there is a problem.

One, where did I say it was you personally doing this?

You didn’t, but when you lump me or anyone into a group, you get responses like mine. If you want to address “Non-RPers” as a general group then you should expect responses from that group whether you single them out or not.

Two, it wasn’t me asking you to move away. You’re now directing a specific experience towards me and towards roleplayers in general. That can work both ways, when I have been in RP with a few of my friends where we’re innocently walking towards our intended target during an RP event, and had some Charr interrupting us by spamming area of effect skills on us to troll. I’m not saying this is you and your type of player specifically, so please don’t say what you experienced is me or RPers overall.

So let me understand something… You can admonish me for replying to you personally after you lump me in with a general group of people. At the same time you can reply to me on a personal level about something I said that didn’t involve you in any way whatsoever? I gave a specific example of something that happened to me that didn’t include you or even suggested that you or any others were like this. I believe you should look up hypocrisy and double standards.

I never suggested or even inferred that it was you or RPers overall. Just an example of bad seeds in all player groups. Overly sensitive much? (Yes, this one is directed at you, not anyone else for clarity’s sake.)

Because I’m not trying to turn this into an argument at all. I’m just trying to defend roleplayers because it is far often that they get the blunt end of the stick with threads like this. And because far too often Roleplayers are told how and when they should use /say chat or /emotes by people who usually have nothing better to do than find an excuse to make roleplayers the bad guys. Roleplay affects very, very few non-roleplayers in a negative way.

And further more, those few who want a change seldom want to change anything themselves, they want change to happen elsewhere. In this case, they want a different chat channel for RPers to talk in, instead of changing the way their own chat tabs work so they don’t lose any conversation. Well sorry to those people (again, not saying you specifically) but that is not how the world works most of the time.

Again, I believe you are taking this WAY to personally. When I and some of the others above have offered the suggestion to create a RP channel, we weren’t saying that all role players HAD TO GO THERE to role play. Role players can do what they want in whatever channel they want. I, and most I would assume, really don’t care. Forgive those of us that actually were trying to be helpful and give role players another option. Not command. Option. Sheesh!

What is wrong with giving RPers something of their own?

Because usually it’s not roleplayers asking for it! It’s people who are not RPing that are asking for roleplayers to change the way they do things.

And I understand that RPers are a smaller minority than Non-RPers. But RPers are not a smaller minority to those complaining about RP which was my point.

One, I am not asking anyone to change anything. If I were RPing (and I have) I would not want all the other chatter impeding on the RP conversations. For me, it breaks submersion.

And as far as changing the way RPers do thing, it didn’t seem to bother those RPers to tell me and my friend to go somewhere else so we weren’t bothering their RPing. Now who is asking who to change the way they are playing?

Conditions doing too much damage?

in WvW

Posted by: jheryn.8390

jheryn.8390

I have to agree with some above who say that you are essentially asking for conditions to be nerfed in order for you to more easily prevail against others without change from you.

I am a condition player and in order to be effective, my direct damage taking ability is limited. Your warrior hits me two or three times and I could be in serious trouble.

There are intentional trade-offs to what type of build you desire to play. I have to learn to avoid direct damage and what it does to me if I do get hit. You need to learn to mitigate condition damage in order live and be able to hit me effectively.

I think the real problem is that condition builds are finally becoming as effective as direct damage builds and the direct damage dealers don’t like it.

We have a fully maxed out guild at the moment. When the leather & cloth nodes became available, our members had it knocked out as fast as humanly possible.

So, IMO, how much to give is how much you want to give and how much you feel comfortable giving to support your guild. If that is 1 copper or 1000g it doesn’t matter. What is it worth to you? Who cares what others give?

POSITIVES: Amazing map. Beautiful landscape. Fun zone to explore. Ley Line Roller Coaster. Jumping Puzzle.

NEGATIVES: Many missing Enemies/NPC’s from the original: Hydra, Phantoms, Abominations, Giant Flesh Golems, Fire Drakes, Breeze Riders, Dryders, etc. Aether Seals do not resemble GW versions. Like Southsun, events are not very exciting. Yet another currency (and another which doesn’t go into the wallet). Yet another key.

This sounds plausible to me. I think it would also be a good explanation for her behavior.

I still believe, however, it could be a matter of just poor decision making. Sometimes even when a decision is blaringly wrong to the rest of the world, the person who made that decision will still believe they did the right thing.

Despite her obvious mistakes, I still want to give her the benefit of the doubt.

The Faolain thing I blame on blind love, something any of us can get irl, where we ignore all the evils the person we love does because we care about them that much.

No. 100% No. I wouldn’t fall in love with someone who was malevolent in the first place; and if they turned to it or revealed it was there all along, I would fall out of love immediately. Because… moral compass.

That is so easy to say when you haven’t actually had that happen to you. We often fall in love with people who turn out to be so different than we believed them to be. Often, abused significant others stay in the relationship because they still love the person that is abusing them and they think they can change them. Caithe is a classic example of this. She kept believing she could bring Faolain back from the dark side.

As far as proving that she cannot work with others, I also question that. It was she, not any of the others that was working toward putting DE back together. Our characters witnessed this.

I believe she has made many, many mistakes. I don’t believe her motivations were selfish at all. She just thought she was doing the right thing, but did so without thinking things through.

I believe she wants redemption. She wanted it for Destiny’s Edge and now she is seeking it for herself personally.

Has she been stupid in the past? Most certainly. Do I believe she is trying to atone for that stupidity? I truly do.

  • I don’t believe Lazarus. Or, perhaps he’s (literally) of two minds. If you were the last god on Tyria, you might go a little nuts without any peers to hang out with.
  • Marjory seems as if she’s being influenced by an outside power. Remember: primordus now has some of the mental powers of Mordremoth and it’s possible she’s under his spell.
  • Another possibility is she’s still overcome with grief about the death of her unmemorable sister that she’s willing to go to any lengths to try to resurrect her (including: allowing herself to be fooled by the same mursaat that fooled so many humans before).

It’s pretty sad to me that our PC has little choice but to trust the guarding of the mini-dragon to the proven-untrustworthy-Caithe. This won’t end well.

I agree with you on all of this except for Caithe. I’m not convinced that she is untrustworthy so much as she has shown herself to make bad decisions just like the rest of us. I really do think she is trying to redeem herself.

I felt the same way when it was happening about Marjorie’s sister. I just have a gut feeling she is trying to find a way to bring Belinda back. I hope she cannot. It would really cheapen her death.

I agree that the decorations could be much better than they were last year.

I think they miss the boat on festivals. They should have many of the festivals in cities that fit them.
For the creepiness factor, TBC would be a great place for Halloween.

Holbrak is a city of snow for pete’s sake, why isn’t Winter’s Day held there?

Dragon’s Festival is a “Canthan” throwback, so DR is a great place for it.

IMO, the cities could have been used much better when selection for festivals were decided upon.

and for people who are more used to jps ~ 95% of the existing jps are a cakewalk by now so they get something for them too ..i think thats fair…

*I think all the Mesmers who port others should stop that and instead go help others do the jp the correct way…

But seeing how 90% of people and mostly new players just skip every daily jp because of the mesmers that always port (some of them only hoping for gold donations) and they dont even start trying just makes me sad…

I’m one of those who most of the JP’s are easy now. I even finished Clocktower last Halloween. I welcome the challenge. However, I have plenty of guildmates who are jumping impaired. They will tell you so. Yet, they want to get to the top to for both achievements and to see the view. I’m happy to help them get there with portals.

I think the mesmers that help with daily JP’s may be doing it as a way to make money which is perfectly fine IMO. We all have our ways of coming about gold. Mine is flipping on the TP. So I have no problem with them doing this.

I agree with Danikat, I see many people ignoring portals and doing the JP’s themselves. I’m one of those. I like JP’s. So 90% is probably an exaggeration.

in Living World

It could be anywhere really. If Primordus is the target, he moves underground so he could pop up anywhere.

Personally I think at least part of the next expansion will venture into the Northern Shiverpeaks (EOTN area). He had a stronghold there. Even if he has left there, it might be the place to look for clues as to where he is now. If Jormag is involved, then certainly the EOTN areas will be involved.

Even though Primordus is “active” that doesn’t mean that is who we will fight next. Anet could be using his activity to throw us off. Hordes of speculators thought Jormag or Kralk would be the next dragon and it wound up being Mordy.

There are other creatures from the Ring of Fire Islands I also have not seen in the trailers. Abominations, Phantoms, Fire Drakes, Dryders, Breeze Keepers and Ettins.

Almost all of these creatures, including hydra had included boss creatures.

It would be a shame to ignore all the previous history of the islands by not including these enemies.

Actually, they change what you can get from chests, so it doesn’t always have to be the same. And the fact that people might know that these items are possible to get doesn’t mean that they have to be happy with it.

There is two parts to what you just stated.

You are right that they change them on occasion, but they are always going to have very base things like transmutation charges and ToK. They are a staple and while they are “junk” to you, many people don’t come by those things as easily as you or I might. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

The second part concerns being happy with the possible contents of the BL chests. No, you don’t have to be happy about it. You don’t have to be happy about anything. But I see no point in being upset about something that is what it is. Being unhappy with possible drops really serves no purpose I can see.

No matter what the BL chests have for possible drops, there are always going to be people who do not like what is offered. I think we are dealing with a “get over it” moment here.

I don’t understand the replies saying things like “you can’t get jackpots all the time”. The OP never said they wanted the best stuff all the time. But items like Transmutation Charges and Tomes of Knowledge which are plentiful from just logging into the game is a waste of the $ that I spent on keys. I want to get items from chests that I can’t get easily already.

But you KNOW they are in there. So if you buy keys it is just unreal for you to expect not to get any.

You spent your money knowing that you could get that stuff, so how can you complain when you do? SMH.

It is ridiculous that you can get all this useless cheap stuff from the Black Lion Chest.

I take it you have never played slot machines before. Most of the time you get nothing and are just out whatever money you put in them. That reminds me of something. Let me think…

Yep. BL chests. They even have it set up like a slot machine. The difference is you get something every single time. You can call it junk if you want, but you DO get something.

Why are you complaining about it? If you don’t like the outcome, don’t buy the keys. Is that a hard concept? No one is forcing your credit card out of your wallet.

Where do you log off?

I always log off in DR, I have a Royal Terrace Pass so costs me nothing to return home and “cash out” so to speak.

^Same.

No, it isn’t worth it for you.

Yeah, seems that way. Shame.

I’m kinda salty that I put so much money into this game when I had a lot more disposable income/less responsibilities, only to be forced to pay for it again at a later date. Hate to sound self-entitled about it – I definitely believe in paying for entertainment but I was under the impression this game was buy to play, which I already did. And tbh I’m just looking for something to do when I’m bored, not an actual gaming investment. The game lost most of its spark for me in the first year, though I did enjoy the clockwork invasion things a while back.

Well if you think that by buying the initial game that that will forever cover the cost of keeping it going and providing new content, you need to think again.

Buying gems isn’t like you are giving to charity. You get something for it. You get items that others who do not want to spend their money do not get. Even saying that, gem sales do not cover the time and salaries of all the ANet employees working on new content.

I buy a lot of gems too. No one is forcing me to do so. It doesn’t make me entitled to anything other than those items I buy with the gems.

I am in agreement with others who stated that the expansion price was probably overpriced, but it doesn’t mean that I thought I should get it for free.

I knew it all along (possible spoilers)

I think the Ring of Fire Islands has much more to do with Lazarus than it does Primordus.

I am sure there is a connection somehow because the LS will lead us into the next expansion, but I don’t think he will be there.

As Randulf said, he could be located anywhere since he is underground.

It doesn’t even have to be a volcanic area. When Primordus emerges, wherever that is will be a volcanic area. It doesn’t have to start out that way.

Since it will likely be in an expansion when we DO see him, I am sure it will be on a map we don’t already have. So I would say your ROFI guess is not accurate.

Is it worth buying a Legend cash->gems->gold?

in Players Helping Players

I have created four legendaries. Three from precursor drops (Dawn, Rodgort, Meteorlogicus) and Astralaria from scratch.

I make my gold from gambling on the TP and from selling mats/drops. I have never paid for items using RL money through buying gems and converting to gold.

I am one of those who likes to work for something and have a goal. With each of them, it took a lot of time and effort. Most certainly I could have made much more money than that at work and just bought it outright without doing anything to get them, but that wouldn’t be worth it to me.

One: It’s not worth spending real world money when I can get these things without having to spend a dime and…

Two: I play this game for fun and working to get my legendaries was fun for me.

So if putting in the time to get the weapon you want isn’t worth it and paying cash for it is, by all means buy it. It just isn’t the thing for me.

Token Asian Guy

Well CowKing, trying or not, you are most certainly coming across as racist.

There are no Asians in Tyria. And an Asian sylvari? If you are equating a plant character to any human race, you have more problems than just racism.

And even if there were Asians in game, who cares? What does it matter what race any character is? SMDH.

Seriously. I see sensitivity training in your future.

One person can troll an entire map

As unfortunate as it is, Trolls are a fact of life in GW2.

I was participating in the Octovine and a troll in one of the armors at South kept knocking the triggerblossoms into the players pushing the explosives on the walkway or into the group attacking the Octovine when it was vulnerable.

I was in an armor as well and spent my whole time just countering his moves while the other two armors had to handle everything else that armors do.

Several players, including myself, reported him. I have no idea what was done.

The sad fact is that trolls infest every MMO. Sucks, but it is what it is.

We have been utilizing a large part of our GH.

Ours is Lost Precipice. We are currently building a monument to one of our guild members who died in a remote area. We have our own jumping puzzle. We have decorated the arrival area and the market place where it looks really cool. We are decorating different remote areas just to give guildies places they WANT to explore. It has been fun.

We are striving to make our GH a place where our guild members enjoy coming to and hanging out in.

Another Birthday BUST?

jheryn.8390

I have read the entire thread OP and one thing I agree with is that your title really does infer that the gift was a bust along with ever gift before it. Question mark or not.

There is no possible way in creation that ANet could provide a birthday gift that would please everyone. It will never happen.

I understand that you wish the gift would be better for your personal use and that is fine. What I think you may not understand is that the gift is perfect for some and crap for others.

Bottom line, be happy that you get anything at all. That old saying about “Looking a gift horse in the mouth” really applies.
