In Defense of Temporary Content

I really like the way that Living Story has been handled with the Temporary Content. I think that many of the complaints about TempCon can be addressed by simply slowing down the schedule a bit and giving players more time with the content.

But I do not want to see the old LS TempCon brought back in some “replay mode” or any other manner. It’s gone, and should stay gone, because it’s better that way. I know that some players are upset that they missed some things, and others are upset that the content wasn’t around long enough. I get that. But I think it’s worth accepting that disappointment because the reward for doing something different is so awesome.

I’m not saying that those players who want the TempCon brought back are wrong. I just want to let you know why I think TempCon is awesome, and why I hope ANet doesn’t cave in and change how they’ve been doing things.

1. Much of the content that was removed is recurring content and will be back at some point anyway. Just do something else until it comes back. No big deal.

2. The amount of content that was removed and won’t be back is actually pretty small. This content was generally very story-specific content and would be out of place and annoying if it were left in the world anyway.

3. If they did leave the content in, you would do it for a little while, get bored with it, and then ignore it when you were done with it. We would have all this LS content lying around cluttering the place up and people would complain about that instead. Half of the game would be Southsun — abandoned and ignored.

5. Removing content when we’re done with it adds a sense of history and legend to the game that I find very enjoyable. I really like that there are things that happen and then go away, only to be remembered by those who were a part of it. I think that is romantic, and beautiful, and I respect ANet for having the kittens to do something that ambitious.

And you are kitten right I’m going to defend it because this is the content that I enjoy, and I am just as entitled to my opinion as you are yours. I don’t want the temporary content to come back. It’s better this way. I understand why you would be upset about the content that you missed, but if ANet caves in and brings all that stuff back so you can have what you want, then I don’t get the game that I want.

GW2 is supposed to be a different kind of game. GW2 isn’t supposed to be like all the other MMOs out there. If you don’t like the temporary content — if it bothers you so much — then maybe you are better off playing one of the hundreds of other MMOs that does things your way. I only have this one game that does temporary content like this, and if you ruin it for me then I have nowhere else to go to get it.

kitten right I’m defending it because it is amazing, and I love it, and I can’t get it anywhere else.

Old content needs to be put away to make new content ???

WHAAAAAAAAT !!!!!!!!!?????

did you see the map ?

how many zones could be opened ?
you know that all the old LS content could be Instanced sou you could go back do them later and stay perm ?

example Asura creates a time gate where you can go back and play all the LS content that was released.

Anet right now only throwing out money on the window

you cant make a SINGLE real reason why they should not be implemented as Perm in some way.

Stop defending it even Anet sees it and said they working on somekinde of solution for replay value.

Calm down, bro. Relax.

I wasn’t being literal when I said that they had to “make room” for new content. I was illustrating a better way of looking at it. I was saying that maybe, instead of freaking out over a little bit of content that you missed, you could look forward to the new content that’s coming. I was suggesting that might be a healthier, less stressful, way to view the situation.

I can and have given reason why it should not be implemented as perm content, in this thread and in others that you may not have seen. I’ll bring it back around for you:

1. Much of the content that was removed is recurring content and will be back at some point anyway. Just do something else until it comes back. No big deal.

2. The amount of content that was removed and won’t be back is actually pretty small. This content was generally very story-specific content and would be out of place and annoying if it were left in the world.

Returned after 10 months, why remove stuff?

jsduke.6537

In nearly every other MMO, you can leave for 10 months, and when you return, the content will still be there waiting for you to complete it (with the exception of occasional one-time events).

Sure. So if that is a game feature that is important to you, then maybe those games are more your style. That’s okay. GW2 is doing something different, though.

I hope that you will acknowledge this: If you like “Permanent Content Only” games, then you have TONS of options available to you. But if you like “Living World Content” games, then you have precious few choices. I like the Living World Content better. That’s my cuppa. I hope GW2 doesn’t change that, because if they do then I have nowhere else to go to get it.

I don’t mind GW2 having occasional one-time events, but the idea of having something released every 2 weeks that you have to play on ANet’s schedule or miss out on is a complete deal-breaker for me.

You’re not the only one. I’ve complained about this myself, and suggested that they move to something more like a monthly rotation, rather than every two weeks. There are a lot of advantages to that kind of schedule. I agree with you. Keep in mind, though, that a lot of that content is actually recurring content and will be back at some point.

Also, just because someone wasn’t able to play through the content when it was first released does not mean that someone didn’t care enough to do so. Many people have life commitments that do not afford them the luxury to prioritize a video game. That does not mean they should be punished by being forced to miss out on content. That is silly.

You’re right about that, too. But OP said that he “got bored with the game and left”, so I have no sympathy for him. As with your last point, I think that extending the time frame (to a month or so) is a reasonable solution, and one that we might see in the future.

How about you? Do you have any ideas on how to make it better? Would the monthly schedule I suggested work better for you, or do you have other ideas?

I don’t think you or the other posters here are “fools and imbeciles”. You absolutely have a right to your opinion, and I’m not telling you otherwise.

I’m responding to OP. He left the game for 10 months, and now he’s complaining that he missed some stuff during the 10 months that he didn’t want to play.

You see how silly that is? He left the game. For 10 months. Were we supposed to wait for him to get back before moving on?

If you don’t play, you miss stuff. Don’t want to miss stuff? Check in once in a while and see what’s going on.

That’s all. It’s not even a big deal.

The living story content that has stayed is such a minute portion, why would it be so much more difficult to implement all of the previous Jump Puzzles back to the game and to implement all of the dungeons back to the game? I think I may not have been clear I’m aware of this minute amount of content that stayed, but it is so small in comparison to everything they’ve released and taken out that I just don’t understand why they would leave 1 portion of 1 updated in, but take everything else out. The bazaar of four winds was one of my favorite updates, that was a new location with some beautiful scenery, and we may never see it again.

Bat4W was one of my favorite content updates, too. But I honestly wouldn’t be going back there right now if it had stayed in the game. Periodically, perhaps. Maybe if I needed to farm up a pile of Quartz Crystals. But not very often or for very long. It would just be another dead zone like Southsun — sparsely populated and largely ignored.

So it wasn’t permanent content. I suspect that Bot4W will be recurring content. For now, it’s part of the history of the game, and I think that’s really cool. I’ve got a couple souvenirs and lots of memories, and I look forward to the next time those wacky nomads pass through.

Right now the game has 3 kinds of content:

Permanent Content, which is pretty much everything.
Recurring Content, like the festivals, SAB, and (I assume) Bazaar of the Four Winds.
Temporary Content, like the hot air balloons and a couple of explorable areas/dungeons.

I really don’t think it’s worth getting worked up over the small amount of content that is gone forever and won’t be back. Most of that content only had limited relevance to the game world and would have been pointless and out-of-place after the event was done.

I think the devs are doing a pretty good job balancing all of this content, and although I understand you are disappointed that some of it is gone, my advice is to relax.

Think of it like this:

There is only so much room in the world for content. Old content has to be put away to make room for the new content. You can fixate on the old content and get stressed out over what you lost, or you can focus on all the awesome new content that is coming out.

TL;DR

Your post would be ten-times better if it were half as long.

Super Adventure Box: I don’t care. Don’t like it, didn’t do it, won’t miss it. But for you, they will bring it back. Enough people liked it and did it, so it will be returning. It’s recurring content. So relax; it’s coming back.

Living Story: LS DOES have a permanent impact on the world. Tequatl is different now. Twilight Arbor is different now. We discovered an Aetherblade base in the mountains outside Lion’s Arch and now it is a new permanent JP! All of those things are permanent content changes from Living Story. Exactly what ANet said they would do.

There ARE remnants of LS events in the world. My bank is full of them! Skins from Bazaar of the Four Winds, Accessories from the Southsun content, new Aetherblade gear skin sets in the Gem Store. You literally can’t walk through Tyria without kicking bits and pieces of the history of recent Living Story events.

I don’t do FoTM, so I can’t comment there, except that I’m pretty sure they DID add a new fractal as a result of the Election LS cycle. If not, it’s on the way. Those things take time, though.

Dungeons are fine. With the new lfg tool, I have no problem finding or making a party to do any dungeon at any time.

jsduke.6537

I love the temporary content. I’m glad they remove stuff, and I hope they continue to do it.

Living story means that new things come, and old things go. Living = change. The removed content adds to the lore of the game. It is, quite literally, the history of the game. It’s something that no other game has the balls to do, and I think it’s awesome.

I get that you are disappointed that you missed some stuff, but that was your choice. You didn’t care enough to play it when it was in the game, but suddenly you care now? The game is free. Play whenever you want, as much as you want. But if you decide to skip content, that’s your choice.

Why are crafted ascended items account bound?

in Crafting

Posted by: jsduke.6537

jsduke.6537

Because they want to drag it out as long as possible.

If they weren’t account bound people could buy them from the trading post, and assuming enough money, be geared up in one day. Since their goal is to have people logging in every day, it’s all account bound.

People with money can still buy the timegated parts off the TP. They would have to farm the vision crystal components themselves, of course, but people that would have enough money to buy full ascended off the market are most likely farmers anyway, and can do it in the matter of days. So, it didn’t slow the hardcores that much at all.

Yup. The timegate only served to make it harder for the casual players, while the rich/hardcore went right around it and got ascended weapons in half the time. I think I had my first ascended weapon on day 3, and I didn’t even try that hard. I think if I had been willing to buy stuff off the TP I could have had my first ascended weapon within 24hrs of release.

Timegates are a bad idea all around, but this particular implementation was a huge fail. I hope the devs learned that the lesson here is, “no more timegates”. However, I fear that the lesson they will learn is “Bigger, stronger timegates”.

I don’t understand how people have wound up spending such huge amounts of money on getting to 500 in a craft; I personally spent maybe 20-30 gold doing it; I have three ascended weapons and am working on a 4th now, and the most gold coins I have ever had at any given time was approximately 150.

The people who say “200 gold” are talking about the value of the materials used, not they’re out of pocket cost.

You may have only spent 20-30 gold, but you also used up a whole lot of materials that also had monetary value. If you add up the gold you spent, plus the value of the other materials you used (but didn’t have to buy) the total is around 200g.

So yeah. 200g, give or take, depending on how big of a hurry you are in.

There are cheaper methods, but they take considerably longer.

If I wanted to worry about jerks out to gank me, I’d reinstall WoW and go on a PvP server. You have no idea how frustrating it is to finally get to a vista and boom, killed. Doesn’t matter if you are naked and unarmed.

I know that feel, bro. But check this out:

http://mos.millenium.org/na

Get familiar with this site and check it every once in a while to see how your server is doing in WvW. There is a “Live Map” button you can click to see what areas your server controls.

Use this resource and you can get all of the POIs and stuff while it is in friendly territory. It may take a little time for your server to change position on the map as the rankings change, but eventually it will happen. I got 100% WvW Map Completion on 3 characters w/o ANY PvP!

I do understand your frustration, though. I’m sorry you’re so disappointed, but I do think the game will improve over time. It won’t happen quickly, though. It’s going to take some time and a lot of effort from both the devs and the community.

There’s a lot of exciting discussion happening right now about collaborative development. Let’s see where that takes us. I think the next few weeks and months have the potential to be REALLY exciting.

Handling of Ascended Weapons was Atrocious

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

jsduke.6537

My only complaint about Ascended Weapon implementation was that they kind of fumbled the time gate stuff.

The fact that the Ingots/Planks/Strings are all available for sale on the TP means that anyone with money could by-pass the time gate completely just by buying the finished products from other players. Something that was supposed to take days suddenly takes just a few seconds on the TP.

At this point, the only thing standing between you and an Ascended Weapon is the Dust/Ore/Fragments. If you were a hardcore elitist with lots of time to focus on the game, you could farm that stuff up in a couple of days.

So the time-gating really just got in the way of the casual players while the rich/hardcore players just bought their way around it or marathon farmed it.

I do hope they do something different when Ascended Armors are implemented.

This complaint again, seriously?
You have 4 maps with, let’s face it, not much on them to get. You don’t even have to engage in PvP if you go at the right times and watch what your servers doing. PvE and WvW are not seperate entities.

Well, yes, WvW and PvE are separate entities. That’s why we keep them separate.

Besides look at it from the other way, WvW players who don’t like PvE have a hell of a lot more to do outside their realm of enjoyment than you do if they want one.

That’s true. Although I don’t understand why someone would do that. Do you really log in, make a character, head straight for WvW and never leave? That blows my mind. It’s like buying a movie, but instead of watching the movie you just watch the trailer for the movie over and over and over again. You’re not even playing 90% of the game!

That’s okay though. WvW is not there for me; it’s there for you.

BUT

When a WvW player goes into PvE to do map completion, they are free to explore at their own pace, solo or with friends, and no one is going to randomly murder them just for the hell of it.

When a PvE player goes into WvW, there are other people ACTIVELY trying to stop them from accomplishing their goals.

So no, it’s not an appropriate comparison.

I’m a PvE player as well, and this annoyed me to no end when I was newb. Then I discovered that my server’s placement on the map changed periodically, meaning that, at some point, ALL of the poi’s and vistas were going to be in friendly territory and easy to get to.

You have to take the long view with Legendaries. It’s not a quick process, and (unless you gem-purchase one with gold) acquiring a Legendary means you have accomplished something. You’ve been around. You’ve seen some kittens. You’ve kittened some kittens. Probably some kittens have kittened your kittens, too.

It is a hassle, and I wish it weren’t set up this way, but if you are patient, and check in on your server’s WvW periodically to see where things stand, you WILL get your Gift of Explorations without much trouble.

In anticipation of Ascended Armors coming out sometime soon, I am going to dedicate some portion of my play time to farming the crucial t7 crafting materials (Frags, Ores, and Dust… or FODder for short )

If Armors are like Weapons, then I don’t anticipate having the time to go farm up all the mats in a timely fashion, so I’m going to go ahead and pro-actively get what I can now.

So the question is, where do you get your FODder? Post your tips and tricks below for all the world to know.

Here are mine:

Bloodstone Dust:

— Champ Farm in Frostgorge. You can get a couple stacks an hour, there. ’Nuff said.

Empyreal Fragments:

— Farming fast-n-easy dungeon paths at 20 a pop with multiple characters.
— Selected JPs and mini dungeons with multiple characters.

Dragonite Ore:

— Temple Events(?) Supposedly Temple events drop 30 ores per completion, but I don’t know if it’s farmable. Is that a daily reward? Daily per character?
— World Bosses (e’ery day, e’ery day)

I’m drowning in Empyreal fragments, ok on Bloodstone dust, and have something like 60 Dragonite from the smattering of WvW I’ve been playing.

I don’t really play anything that would get me Dragonite, just run dungeons and do jumping puzzles. I get some Bloodstone from champs in dungeons but Dragonite? I dunno how I’m supposed to get that kitten. Can’t really get it without a zerg and there just aren’t zergs when I play.

You’re not getting the Dragonite you need because you’re playing the game wrong. You’re not supposed to just do the content that you enjoy, you’re supposed to dedicate a portion of your play time to the things that ANet thinks you should be doing. It’s their game, man. Better do what they want.

Dragonite ore drops primarily from World Bosses like Tequatl, Shatterer, Jormag, and the “Lesser Bosses” like Shadow Behemoth and Fire Elemental. All of them are daily rewards, and completely unfarmable. It also drops from Temple events, and may be farmable there. In fact, if it is farmable at Temple events then that would be the best place to get it.

Why not enable a mechanism that also allows them to switch skins? Allow all legendaries to be able to look like any exotic weapon. Perhaps even a set selection of exotic weapons only.

I think ANet is under the impression that the Legendary skins are better than all other skins, and making the skin optional would be a step backward.

The game needs more Legendary skins. Period. Supposedly we will be getting new Legendaries soon. I’ll wait and see what happens when that gets implemented. Perhaps all grievances will be addressed by that patch. We’ll see.

Whereas I have PLENTY of Empyreal Fragments and claw and scratch to get Dragonite Ore… The shift you propose would make the process faster for you but nearly intolerable for me.

The shift I proposed was that the distribution of these materials be more evenly spread out amongst all the content from which it currently drops. It should mean a more even amount of materials for everyone, regardless of your play-style. I’m not sure how an “even distribution of all things from all sources” would make it easier for me and harder for you. Maybe I’m just not getting your point, here.

… don’t assume your playstyle sample size of one is going to happen to be right in the middle of the hump in the graph that they move to appease .

Didn’t. Wasn’t. Won’t.

I used estimated numbers based on how much effort it takes to get the different items. Obviously your play-style will effect how your drops are weighted, but your play-style has nothing to do with the availability of drops. It doesn’t matter how you play the game, bloodstone dust is still WAY easier and faster to get than the other two.

Empyreal Fragments are probably second easiest to get if you farm dungeons (which I don’t, and that’s why I have fewer Frags than you).

Dragonite is probably the hardest to get because they only drop from daily world bosses which can’t be farmed.

I’m gonna bring it back around one more time:

These items are needed in equal amounts, so they should be equally available regardless of play-style. If they drop in equal amounts, with equal regularity, from all the relevant content then you have normalization. I don’t have a deficit of Frags, and you don’t have a deficit of Dragonite, and we both get to pursue the content we enjoy without having to think twice about it.

You can get 80 emp frags in 45min running CoF 2x on 2 chars. Throw in a SE run and you’re at 100 in an hour.

You’re right, I hadn’t thought of that. I will probably start farming the easier dungeon paths to make up the Frag deficit I’ve been working with. It’s a shame to have to do that, though. I doubt it was what devs intended when they were putting the recipe together.

Anyway, thanks for the tip!

I think we could use some re-balancing of the t7 mat items (Empyreal Fragments, Dragonite Ore, and Bloodstone Dust).

I don’t know how it works out for everyone else, but I’ve got WAY TOO MUCH Bloodstone Dust, and NOT NEARLY ENOUGH Empyreal Fragments.

Dragonite Ores seem to come out about right, as long as you hit up the World Bosses each day.

Bloodstone dust is extremely easy to get, especially since there are at least 2 champ farms going 24/7 on every server.

Empyreal Fragments, though, are skint. They drop from A TON of places, but only in very low quantities compared to time/effort of acquisition.

Look at it from a time/drop perspective:

(Estimated Numbers)

1hr of world bosses = 60-100 dragonite ores
1hr of champ farm = 400-500 bloodstone dust
1hr of dungeons/JPs = 40-60 empyreal frags

If you extrapolate that out based on crafting needs:

5 Dragonite Ingots = 5-8hrs
5 Empyreal Stars = 8-13hrs
5 Bloodstone Bricks = 1hr 15min

(/end Estimated Numbers)

Clearly some normalization is in order.

I’d LOVE to see all three mats drop from all current sources. That would let me “play how I want to” and still get the mats I need, rather than having to do “daily chores” to make sure I can craft the gear I want to craft.

Maybe not all three mats every time, but some of any one of the three each time. That way players don’t feel coerced into grinding content they don’t enjoy just to check an item off their shopping list.

Or just remove the X-bound so we can trade them on the market. Honestly, what’s the compelling reason for making them account-bound?

THANK YOU!

Thank you for taking the time to let us know that you hear us and are paying attention to the community. Just the occasional acknowledgement goes a long way toward alleviating my anxiety over the game issues that matter to me.

When I see feedback like this I think, “Okay, they’re aware and they’re on it. We all care about the same thing.” Then I relax and go back to enjoying the game.

I know I can get snarky sometimes with my comments. I’ll try to watch that in future. It really is just frustration leaking out, but I know it must get tiresome to read all the snarky and sarcastic comments in these forums.

I DO respect the nerve that the development teams must have to pursue gw2’s VERY ambitious mission. I try to say that from time to time as well. Maybe not often enough.

So yeah. Thank you for taking the time to give US some feedback!

Living story = players not returning?

Yeah, the PACE of Living Story updates needs to change. A new Living Story update once a month, and a non-LS update once a month. THAT would be perfect.

New LS content starts on the 1st of the month, every month. That update is all about LS and you have the whole month to do it.

Middle of the month, we get a second update with all the Quality of Life/Profession Balance/Non-LS updates the teams have been working on.

Repeat each month.

I DO like the temporary nature of some of the content. It adds history to the game. It adds stories and tales and legends to the game in a way that NOTHING else ever can. “You had to BE there!” is a real selling point for me. I missed out on Halloween 2012 and Wintersday 2012, but there are still remnants in the world, and I have been hearing about the Mad King and his Clock Tower ever since I joined gw2 in April. Those stories have made me look forward to Halloween 2013! I’m excited about it!

BECAUSE of the history. Because of the stories other players tell. I think that’s awesome and I want to encourage the devs to keep it up.

Best and Worst of GW2 Releases - Year 1

Best:

1. Quality of Life fixes like Wallet
2. Bazaar of the Four Winds
3. Dragon’s Jade Weapon Skins
4. Queen’s Jubilee
5. Clockwork Chaos

Worst:

1. Time-gated crafting (honestly, WHAT were you thinking?)
2. Account-bound crafting (Play how WHO wants?)
3. Tequatl update (This is a structured raid boss, NOT open world content.)
4. SAB (I know a lot of people liked it, but I have 0 interest in it and the 64-bit rewards are cute but DO NOT BELONG in the setting.)
5. Living Story has no discernible plot to follow (Even episodic stories have 3 acts…)

I like the idea of Living Story much more than I like the execution of Living Story.

Hopefully they’re just working out the kinks and (listening to player feedback and) things will improve going forward.

A lot of this is still new ground for an MMO and I have to give the devs props for even attempting it. Having said that, though, a little dialogue with the player community would go a long way toward easing our concerns.

It’s come up on other threads here and there, and I really do think it’s “Player Survey” time. It seems like ANet devs are working in seclusion, cut-off and out of touch. We see the same complaints over and over. The same suggestions, over and over. We get VERY LITTLE feedback from devs in forums and elsewhere. Usually when we hear from devs it’s when content is already done and ready to be implemented. At that point it is largely pointless to tell them, “Er, we actually don’t want that….” because it’s going to happen anyway.

I think it’s past time for there to be a developer-player pow-wow with some real back-and-forth discussion about the future of the game. It’s hard to make that kind of communication happen, but a survey is a very powerful tool and would get us there.

I still love gw2 and I expect that I will continue playing it for a long time, but I have my concerns about the future of the game. Chief among them is simply, “Are you listening to your customers?”

C’mon, ANet. Give us some sign that you know we are out here.

I think one possible solution is to just put an expiration date on time-gates. Not the content, but the time-gate itself.

I understand the desire for a time-gate when content first goes live, but after a while it no longer serves any purpose and becomes an arbitrary restriction on what I’m allowed to do. At that point, it’s only effect is to hinder and annoy players and so should be removed.

I don’t know what the magic number is. 30 days? 50? 100?

At some point we should be able to say, “Okay, that’s enough. Time to pull the time-gate and let players get at the content without kitten ing them off.”

Another approach might be a cumulative limiter. If you want to limit players to one-a-day crafting, fine. If it’s been 10 days since content went live, then I can craft up to 10 of the item, total, but no more than that. I can craft one a day for ten days, or I can craft 7 at a time once a week, or I can just craft however many I need whenever I need them as long as I don’t go over the cumulative daily limit.

Bottom line is simply this: If you’re going to insist on restricting my game play, at least make it the least onerous restriction possible so you don’t alienate me as a customer.

We seem to have strayed WAY far from OP topic. CrazyfaceMurphy (w/e) has a legitimate argument.

ANet stacks LS content updates with CRAZY amounts of AP and other rewards for those that complete the content.

So there certainly is a percentage of the gw2 community that is doing LS content JUST FOR THE AP. It doesn’t mean they like or approve of the LS content, it just means they are willing to grind through it to rack up the AP points for the non-LS reward they DO want.

CrazylegsMcGillicutty (w/e) is just saying he hopes that ANet is aware of this, and takes it into account when they parse the data.

That’s all. It’s a well-reasoned and valid point.

You go, SillyFaceMcMurphyLegs. Good on ya.

Yeah, so I was using humor to make my point. I won’t make that mistake again.

How about this:

Time-gated content is not, “play how you want”.

Time-gated content is, “play how you want… as long as you do it THIS way.”

Time-gated content is, “play how you want… but not TOO much.”

Time-gated content is, “play how you want… but do it QUICK or miss out.”

I understand that there are justifications for time-gating certain content.

I understand that not every player has a problem with time-gated content.

But let’s not pretend that time-gating content is still “play how you want” because it clearly isn’t. It’s an artificial restriction on what we’re allowed to do in game.

Oh, there’s new Living World content coming out? Great! I can’t wait!

Oh, but first I have to harvest from these once-a-day harvesting nodes…
And my quartz crystal node in my home instance…
And craft my time-gated crafting mats so I don’t fall behind on that…
OH! and I need to charge up a quartz or I’ll fall behind on that, too…
And then there’s the once-a-day world bosses… that takes a while…
And I need to do some dungeons, or at least a few JPs so I can get Empyreal Fragments for that ascended weapon I’m working on…

Actually… with all this time-gated content, I barely have time to do all my chores each day… I may not get to Living World stuff at all.

Hmm? A new time-gated candy-corn node for my home instance? Oh. Well. I guess I should get that, too, then…

Man! You remember the days when you could log in and “play how you want to” and not miss out on any of the content you cared about? THOSE were the days.

Yep. I miss those days.

The living story should expand the map

Probably 100% of players would like to see new areas open up. But that kind of content takes a LONG TIME to make, and won’t happen often.

I am looking forward to seeing more of the map open up, and I WOULD like to see devs prioritizing that kind of content, but it probably won’t happen any time soon.

We’ve already been told what to expect for the remainder of 2013, and it didn’t include opening new areas, so I don’t expect it to happen this year. But HOPEFULLY we will get some significant new content like new explorable areas in 2014.

TL;DR

I did drop a few +1s on my way down here, though, to support posts I agreed with.

I gotta say I’ve been REALLY disappointed with the past 3 content updates, to the point where I am rapidly losing interest in the game altogether.

Tried SAB. Didn’t like, didn’t go back.
Tried Tequatl multiple times. Didn’t like. Won’t be back.
Read about Twilight Assault but lost interest when I saw the spark plug reward. Haven’t even bothered to try it out. Probably never will.

I don’t enjoy the new content that has been coming out, so I don’t do it. I AM, however, bothered by the fact that I don’t like the new content coming out. I’m not okay with that. I don’t expect to like everything that comes out, and I’m fine with skipping new content sometimes. But as of the October 15th update it will have been 2 months since I enjoyed any of the new content updates. I really hope the Halloween update is a good one.

Yeah, I think that’s the bottom line, really. We’ll buy more if they are account bound than if they are soulbound. Maybe I’m wrong and there are players who will spill $10 a pop on these things every time they come out. For me, though, buying a new one means that the old one I bought is trash and instead of perm-a-tool, they become rent-a-tool.

I like the new Jack-in-the-Box harvesting tool. It’s creepy and unique and perfect for my Necro. But my Necro already has a soulbound Endless Harvesting Tool, so I won’t be buying any gems to get the newest version of the Endless Tools. Ever.

If only the Endless Tools were account-bound instead of soul-bound, I could switch the old tool to another character and THEN I might spill some cash for a spiffy new tool for my Necro.

I’m just sayin’.

New “Pet Skins”. Either an entirely new Pet Model to replace an existing one, or Pet Model Options, like “Pet Dyes” for example. Necros, Rangers, Engineers and Guardians all have “pets” of one kind or another. I’d love to be able to customize the appearance of my pets.

Personality-Based Emote Sets. Unique emote animation for a variety of personality types, like: Serious, Brooding, Mischievous, or Cheerful. Each option changes the character’s default animations so that players can customize their characters in more meaningful ways.

Diminishing satisfaction from LS updates

My understanding is that you have multiple different teams working concurrently to produce content that is released on a rotating schedule. So Team A releases their content, then two weeks later Team B releases their content…

Team A > Team B > Team C > Team D > Team A… etc.

So I think what we’re seeing here is inconsistency in the quality produced by different teams. I think that one or two of these teams are AMAZING, and the other teams are… failing to meet expectations.

Bazaar of the Four Winds? AMAZING content.
Tequatl Update? LAME.
Clockwork Chaos? AWESOME content.
Super Adventure Box? Whatever. Don’t Care.
Twilight Assault? I haven’t even bothered to read about it on Dulfy.

But these are just my reactions to these specific content updates. Not every update is going to appeal to every player, and that’s fine. No big deal.

The last three LS updates were pretty crappy, and that tells me that the team(s) I like are coming back around in the rotation. So I’ll just go do some non-LS related content while I wait for the next AWESOME AMAZING content to come around.
