Nope. Not in WvW with blobs.

Indeed lol.

Don’t know what to say, other than “yep, it even runs in WvW with blobs”. Might be a testament to the i5-4300U, but more likely it’s due to how well GW2 scales for different hardware platforms.

GW1 was same way — it would scale down extremely well.

Try downing your settings — if that’s not acceptable, then do buy some new hardware.

Signet of Courage

Rebound is not the best skill to use a benchmark. Some quick thoughts:

1. The cast time on Rebound! makes it hard to use
2. The window for death-blow prevention is small
3. The fall-back effect (aura) doesn’t occur until 5 seconds after using the shout

Most players I know would like to see the skill become instant cast and provide the aura immediately. The death blow effect can be scrapped or made supplemental to the primary behavior.

Death-blow prevention is not that great in GW2 because it simply delays the outcome of a very bad situation. Also death-blow prevention on a skill that’s not instant-cast makes it very difficult to use (cast too late, cast too early, easily interrupted).

Best Sigils for WvW?

I’ve been using Sigils of Energy and Battle because that’s what I put on my weapons over a year ago (and then forgot about it).

I’d like to optimize my sigils for WvW. I zerg and small team roam. Here are some combinations I’ve been considering:

1. Condition defense using Purity, Generosity, and/or Cleansing
2. Life Steal with Blood and Leeching (unblockable armor-proof damage)
3. Healing with Water and Renewal
4. DPS with Air and Fire

I’m sure there are other combinations I haven’t considered.

Feedback appreciated!

It´s a bit the same with rebound… Why the hell this effect? Just make it intant cast and give the aura and put it on 50s CD ….

I’m also a big fan of this suggestion too!

1. Make it instant
2. Make the aura application instant
3. Keep the “death-blow” feature, remove the heal if that’s too OP

ANet doesn’t kitten any other condition application skill based upon nearby players, so why do it here?

I’ve been thinking more about this, and I’m suspecting that Mantra’s will be the utility add for the next elite spec.

What pairs well with sword (assuming sword is melee-ish, and sword is the next elite wep per the leaks)?

Looking at utility skill types that we don’t currently have:

Meditations: This is cool, but not sure it pairs necessarily with a sword
Traps: I like traps, but I think wells would be more spell caster-ish
Wells: Interesting but not really different than AoEs we already have
Banner: No thanks
Stance: Also interesting when considering a melee-oriented elementalist
Mantras: Very caster-ish, supports fast skill play (when charged)
Elixir: Doesn’t fit with spell-caster theme imho
Gadget: Ditto
Turret: Ditto again
Spirit Weapon: I love this, but too similar to elementals and remind me of conjures
Spirit: Maybe, but again similar to elementals
Venom: Doesn’t fit with spell-caster theme, but maybe they are elemental effects?
Physical: Same
Corruption: Interesting but does it synergize with elemental attunements?
Spectral: Interesting but similar with corruption, needs to synergize with attunements

My favs from the list are Mantras and Stances.

My poll vote: the cap should remain in place

The dailies are rewarding even when at the achievement point cap. This makes the achievement point maximums deterministic and is a tool to balance the distribution of point sources in the total.

"Eye of the Storm" in WvW Zerging

in Elementalist

juno.1840

Yeah but can you really time a group stun-break with any efficiency? Do you pop it when two people are stunned? How about three people? That’s assuming you have the ability to quickly determine that your party is stunned, and how many exactly.

In addition, when zerging we have a stability rotation which reduces the importance of group stun-break. So the group stun-break part seems like a superfluous, and mostly useless addon to this skill.

Also the commander specifically mentioned “the skill with superspeed” when asking the Tempests to slot it (instead of calling it by “Eye of the Storm”). So maybe we can list the scenarios where 5s of group superspeed should be used while WvW zerging

I especially enjoyed watching your skill rotations. The amount of kit swapping surprised me, but seemed manageable when watching what skills you used afterwards. It’s similar to elementalist where you have 20 skills (hammer, FT, elixir gun, toolbelt) and you’re switching kits to access the 15 in addition to the toolbelt.

I don’t think you camped any weapon/kit for very long.

"Eye of the Storm" in WvW Zerging

Was in WvW last night, rolling in a good Zerg group. The commander asked Tempests in the team to slot “Eye of the Storm”:

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/%22Eye_of_the_Storm!%22

I’ve never used this skill since it seems weak compared to the other shouts which grant an aura (900 heal, 1000 regen, protection, vigor, and aura effect).

I tried to find some opportunities to use it — best one was a surprise jump down onto another zerg where the super-speed helped us to run thru the tail to towards the head, mowing down our foes.

Other than that, not sure it provided much use. Maybe I’m not recognizing the proper scenarios to use the shout?

It suits my play style better I have my build set up 20-25 stacks of might at all times, that helps (PvE speaking of course, I don’t run condi in PvP)

I’ve mostly played Ele and Guard in WvW. Every now and then I get bored and want to switch it up a bit.

I checked into MetaBattle and that website just sucks for build ideas. Certainly there is more than just a single scrapper build for WvW?

Anyway, last night I played a couple hours as a P/P condi scrapper with gyros (still don’t quite get the elite stealth gyro since it does not follow well at all). I started examining my the build a bit and saw a Grand Master trait which gives stability and might when using a Flamethrower — that seems sick so is there a viable WvW flamethrower build?

Part of me thinks it would be possible to make a front line flamethrower Engi. I can’t figure out if that would be condi or power though. Strangely enough, the flamethrower seems pitifully weak at generating burns.

Heavy Armor Elite Spec

juno.1840

I’m sorry to say it but there is no defense from armor in spvp. Only amulet’s stats. You can freely run naked with your amulet there and you’ll see no difference with or without armor.

The wiki says that there is a base armor contribution:

“Players need to equip chest, legs and foot armor to get the base armor value, but hands, shoulders and head are ignored.”

So there is an armor contribution, it’s just normalized. A trait that gives a defense bonus would still function in sPvP.

Heavy Armor Elite Spec

in Elementalist

Posted by: juno.1840

juno.1840

In fairness I said “traits and heavy armor” when discussing survivability. That being said, let’s look at heavy armor:

Heavy armor does add more defense rating. Ascended heavy is +304 defense over ascended light armor. That’s more than all of our +toughness traits and skills (Signet of Earth +180, Stone Flesh +150, Rock Barrier +250).

For exotics, which is, I believe, what sPvP is balanced against, it works out to 291. So about a third of a cleric ammy either way.

I doubt ArenaNet will ever make a specialisation that allows a profession to switch armours. What I could see, if they decide it’s needed for a melee-oriented weapon, is a trait that provides a bonus to toughness (or even to defence, if they have aggro mechanics in mind!) when that weapon is equipped – so you’d have to actually commit to the weapon to get the benefit, rather than being able to just take it for free toughness while using the more standoff-oriented core weapons.

Oh that’s a good idea. The minor for the new elite could be something like:

“Allows use of Swords. Increases defenses from armor by 30% when a Sword is equipped”

So rumor has it that our next Elite spec allows a 1H sword.

Wouldn’t it be sweet if it was a melee based elite spec which also granted heavy armor usage!

Game play feel would be like E/As from GW1, but with front line survivability (from traits and heavy armor).

I’m sorry but the heavy armor won’t give the elementalist any more survivability. Armor are mainly skins in this game nothing more nothing less. But maybe you wanna play optimus prim as an elementalist with the legendary heavy armor.

In fairness I said “traits and heavy armor” when discussing survivability. That being said, let’s look at heavy armor:

So heavy armor won’t make you indestructible, but it’s better than all our other +toughness options right now. I guess another option is the “minor” for the new elite could be something like “Allows use of Swords and increases defenses from armor by 30%” and it’s then the same (without the coolness of an ele walking around in heavy gear).

What you are proposing is essentially the bare minimum (if that) to introduce scythes.

When I read what you wrote, I don’t get excited about scythes. It’s not much more than simply having the Djinn Form show a scythe graphic (similar to Death Shroud and Reaper Shroud). Honestly, as you thought I’d say, it’s a bit lame.

A new weapon introduction should come with everything that the existing weapons have. My point is that is a lot of work. Only ANet can comment on exactly how much, but qualitatively it’s more than simply adding an existing weapon (like GS) to Elementalist.

I think every forum area has a discussion about new weapons — spear is a popular topic right now. I think new weapon options are cool, and generate a lot of excitement. I don’t think one will be added for a single elite spec — it’ll be something larger in scope to make use of all the work required in the first place.

Spirit Weapons

Some players want spirit weapons because they’re “fun”. For me that means:

  • I like how they look
  • I like that they have a super-natural, spritual kind of theme going (rather than undead)
  • I like that they have an active component in addition to the passive component

They are tricky to balance because they are parallel damage (like minions or ranger pets).

The original SW were a bit better imho because they were indestructible — there was a lot of groaning from other players back then because they couldn’t eliminate the SW threat, except by dodging and there’s only so many times you can do that.

At this point they are nerfed to an undesirable place because (imho) the difficulty in balance. When I see a guardian playing SWs, it does make me smile and think “live the dream buddy, live the dream”.

Elementalist elite spec idea: Dervish

A new weapon type (i.e. Scythe) is a big endeavor because of:

  • Addition of crafting recipes for all stat combos and level variants, including ascended
  • Addition of unique animations to all race models
  • Addition of skins for all Scythes (crafted, dropped, all levels, etc.)
  • Addition of unique exotics including precursors for legendary variant
  • New legendary (since there is no existing legendary)
  • Addition of Scythe to dungeon rewards (dungeon vendors, reward tracks, etc.)

(and these are only what I could think of on a Monday morning, so surely there are more concerns)

I suspect ANet will add a new weapon at some point, but not yet. When they do, I bet it’ll be for all professions, not just one Elite spec for one expansion. The amount of work is too high to not reuse it across the entire game. Maybe this will happen when all professions have access to all the current weapons.

To me, video games are video games. I can’t tell you how many times I spent $30, $40, $50, and even $60 for a console game that afforded somewhere between 10 and 40 hours of content, never to be updated.

I am befuddled why anyone would feel qualms over spending the same amount for 100s, if not 1000s of hours for content that is often updated.

Truly mind-boggling.

Yep, simply divide the cost you paid by the hours you played

For me, it’s easily 100 hours since I bought HoT for $25…. so 25 cents an hour. Pretty good deal there!

Better yet, I’m still playing it and I have a rather large to-do list still before I’m done. I imagine the next expansion will be out before I finish.

EDIT: You can compare to subscription model as well — divide cost by months played. For me that’s over 3 months so I’m looking at $8.33 a month. For many other players it’s less than $5 since they bought HoT for $50 over a year ago.

I never said anything about whispering. You made that up. I offered screenie, then wardrobe as an alternative to a hypothetical inspect.

Well literally correct, you didn’t use the word “whisper”, you did say this:

If someone wants to know what skin I’m sporting, they can screenshot and look in the wardrobe. If they cba to do that, they really don’t need to know.

Which implies, with little doubt, that you’d tell anyone that whispered you to take a screenie and go look it up. Because “if they cba [sic] to do that, they really don’t need to know.”

That being said, I saw another suggestion which is to provide an “enable/disable” option for style inspections. If you want to remain private because you put effort into creating your style, then you can disable the style inspection feature. If you’re a more “open source” type of player when it comes to style, then you can enable the style inspection feature. Boom — problem solved, everyone happy!

Stats and traits can remain private. A way to “link” a build would be cool (a la GW1). That way I can ask and they can offer if they want. Maybe that will come with the next expansion when we can load/save builds

If you make it possible, groups can require it. I say no.

Groups will do what they will do. They can ask your build today and you can either lie or ignore them — either way you’ll suffer. Having build linking is not going to change that in any way (you could also link a different build so the ‘lie’ scenario is still valid).

Ultimately you can choose to run in those type of groups or not. Having build linking doesn’t change that in any way.

So why waste everyone’s time, especially when players are, you know… playing, to ask “what is that skin you are wearing?”.

Second I would tie the elemental form to F5 so as to not appear similar to “overload” mechanic. This also prevents some mind numbing management of attunement cooldowns trying to figure out what form is available and when.

However I did not buy HoT at launch mostly because of the price (along with some other issue I had with GW2 at the time). I did buy HoT during the $25 sale and that was a great deal now that I’ve played it. I’m still playing it and don’t see an end in sight — so many play choices!

At this point, I’m excited about the next expansion and will probably pre-order it when available.

Regarding MCs (and only MCs) my guess is the current supply does outweigh demand — in other words more MCs are entering the game than are leaving the game (note I said “game” rather than “market”).

If this is the case then there’s nothing left for ANet to “fix” regarding MCs, other than letting the market adjust without any further intervention — although I honestly don’t know what intervention they were doing previously in the market regarding MCs.

Maybe MCs are a case that’s not following the text book, so ANet is going to stop trying to force them in a logical direction.

I like tempest quite a bit. It’s not god-mode, nor should it be.

However I also believe it could use a few quality of life changes (example the stability on overload trait should award more than a single stack of stability to make it more effective and worth the trade for regen/vigor trait).

I’m curious on the new elite. I hope it doesn’t punish aura switching like Tempest does (if you switch auras too fast you miss the overload, and if you use the overload you can’t switch back as fast).

My main point is Viscount doesn’t need a reward buff because he is already rewarding. Players are skipping him for other reasons (I postulated lack of knowledge on the champ bag rewards, but others have said it’s simply not fun).

The labby is already very rewarding with the elimination of DR.

I don’t see what the problem is here. It’s exactly as JS and Anet said … price will raise to the point where demand and supply are more inline. It’s not speculation that markets will adjust … it’s part of their very nature to do so.

QQing that Mystic coins are ‘expensive’ and claiming that it’s because there is something ‘wrong’ in general with Anet’s approach to let the markets work themselves out shows you don’t know what you are talking about. When the price is ‘right’, people will release their coins to ease the demand.

There are multiple ways the ANet can solve this “problem”, although the problem is different depending upon who you talk to.

ANet’s current approach is “hands off” which is a bit ambiguous — without knowledge of the “hands on” approach, we really don’t know what is different. Of course you can guess, but that’s not factual in any way.

Eles, if played right, are incredible in sPvP.

I am so narrow. I love Scepter/Focus fresh air but decided to theorycraft a build…

And Z0MG I just made a build that utilizes powerful bursts, very high mobility, very high sustain, very great support, and long-lasting boons!!

I think I just hit the jackpot with this build. Ever since I used it my teams have been winning (2-3 games so not a whole lot of experience).

I’ve tried it in 1v1s on 1v1 servers. It’s very very good. High ceiling too. Very high defense, very high healing, very high damage.

Scepter/Warhorn master race. I’ve yet to have extensive experience with it, but from what I’ve played with it, it has been absolutely powerful. I don’t think I’ve ever died in an sPvP game with it so far…

Edit: with more playing, condition users seem to be the only potential threat with this build, but otherwise everything should be good with the build

You should post the build for a critique.

I’m somewhat amused that the majority of the lab farming squads I’ve joined in the last couple of days now just skip the Viscount boss. Since the buff they consider him a bad use of time. Perhaps his rewards needs buffing too….

He’s still not hard and what players fail to realize is champ bags give at least 5 HoT bags.

If the door spawn timing was such that there’s always a door available then I can see skipping less efficient doors (like the two three doors that spawn a single vet — very little reward there). Given that there is “down time” where general mob farming is pursued, skipping Viscount doesn’t seem that efficient.
