My take on pet evade is that whenever you evade, the pet evades as well (in some form of giving evasion for 1-2sec for example). This could be a permanent change to the class or a trait option.
Although I understand why you’d say so, I disagree here..
If I have to dodge with my ranger, that means that I’m getting aggro’d.
So I don’t want my pet to dodge together with me at that time, on the contrary, I want it to keep hitting my aggrressor, so I can (possible) de-aggro..
Hi there, just want to clarify my suggestion. I think as it is right now, pet cannot literally dodge like the player (it would be a cool feature, but unnecessary). What i meant is to give the pet evasion (like Blurred Frenzy mesmer skill or other ranger skills that attack and evade at the same time), so yeah your pet still keeps on attacking.

@Aphoticrain: thanks for your reply.
I was just trying maximize the number of doges i can get (hence the OH dagger and 2 sigils of energy). If you think it’s an overkill, then i can easily switch the OH to warhorn and the crit sigils.
I’m not a pro gamer, I literally can’t work with MH sword (#2 and #3 are awesome, but #1 autoattack… -_-) and after multiple attempts, I have given up on it. On the other hand, I enjoy using Axe a lot. I usually run with Axe/Axe or Axe/Warhorn.
Edited: CD = Condition Damage?

Hi guys
My ranger is about to hit lvl80. I’m gearing towards a support build. I’ve heard about spirit build but also like a build that makes use of a lot of dodges (perma- dodge??) for survival too. Is there any build out there that has these 2 built in one?
I’ve been theorycrafting and heres the build I’ve come up so far: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMEQNAV3YjEVB2dVWVg2BimCNZemCDxI3jS1pTdwsaL-jUyAIMBZaBMBKQJwomDHyYptIasaGMVKRUtDpIa1A-w. But I would really appreciate more input from senior rangers here.
Thanks for your help.
In regards to hyenas being in the dog category: I wonder if they’ll come out with red pandas in an expansion, and classify them as cats?
A lot of people mistake hyenas belong to canine family, because lets admit it, they look like african wild dogs. I have friends that think wolverines are dogs too, /facepalm.
Regarding pet evade:
The pet can automatically evade 1 red ring attack every 10, 15 or 20 seconds for 1 second and 1 direct attack every 10, 15 or 20 seconds for 1 second. The time can be reduced with each point in beastmastery.
My take on pet evade is that whenever you evade, the pet evades as well (in some form of giving evasion for 1-2sec for example). This could be a permanent change to the class or a trait option.
How about dodge rolling provides evasion to pet instead of protection boon?
No dude, its our CORE mechanic. Warriors can’t ignore their burst moves and eles are forced to attune, every thief has to steal or he gets stunned whenever its off cd. Everyone is punished if they don’t take full advantage of their core mechanic and play it perfectly, why should we be exempt? You know how irritating it is doing jade maw and then that dang warrior forgets to use his burst move, crashing the game and uninstalling GW2 from our computers.

Lol, i was about to reply that a lot of Mesmer builds don’t require constant shatters but then i realised you were being sarcastic. Well played.
The portal is a one-time use consumable that effectively allows you to use a skill that is similar to the mesmer’s portal. We recognize that it’s a very powerful item, so the recipe is quite rare and takes considerable resources to manufacture.
Based on this, i think you can use personal portal is port other people than yourself. It should work just like Mesmer’s Portal skill.
Maybe when whoever wins the elction, that candidate’s tokens will give you an actual buff when you consume them.
This is a bit of a stretch IMO.
I really doubt that a city council election in Lion’s Arch is going to have much effect (if any) on anything going on in either Divinity’s Reach or in the Black Citadel. If that was what they were going for – I’d have to say it missed the mark.
I’d suspect it’s more likely that the festival to celebrate the Queen’s rule has been planned for a while (hence the construction hints going in with prior patches) and that the link to the Living Story will be what (inevitably) will happen to disrupt the festivities.
More pirates perhaps, or pirate moles, or pirates with flames shooting out of their heads, or … well, anything other than the world threatening forces-of-nature-turned-physical that are corrupting virtually everything surrounding the continent.
:P
Just want to clarify my original post is ofc just my intepretation of the living story.
So yeah, a bit of a stretch of my imagination. I’m just getting tired of threads like “No more festivals”, etc. Just want to redirect people’s energy to (instead of complaining, QQing) read into the context of LS.
I think you’re right in that the jubilee and the commission of the arena might have been planned way before Dragon Bash, maybe QJ already wanted to hold a celebration as soon as the treaty was ratified.
But I still think what happened in Dragon Bash, Bazaar, and Cutthroat Politics have definitely urged QJ to make this jubilee happen. This is because:
While the council election is happening in LA, the voting crowd are from all corners of Tyria (Divinity’s Reach and Black Citadel included). If you’re a regular forum goer, you can see a clear strong and divided tension between the two ‘Kiel and Evon factions’. Assuming the forum represent 10% of the actual playerbase, and in the game, players and NPC civilians are distributed evenly 50/50. So whatever the degree of conflict you observe on the forum, multiply that by 10×2 = 20 times. The effect can be dramatic and far-reaching.
A dev mentioned this festival is gonna play out differently to others (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/jubilee/Please-no-more-Festivals/page/2).
I think this is because while Dragon Bash is purely festive in nature, this will have a bit of political feel to it. Like if anything bad happens to any high-ranking official, either Charr or human (QJ included), it could easily destabilize the peace between the two races. And it’s quite likely that the Separatists, Inquests, Aetherblades, etc. will make good use to this opportunity.
I suggest us players to be on full alert.

I just finished leveling as a Staff Mesmer. At lvl 40 you should be high enough to get Deceptive Evasion at 20 points in Dueling. After you get that, having 3 clones up at all times is a really easy feat and Winds of Chaos will pile on the Conditions like nothing else. For more damage, you can spam Mantra of Pain or rely on racial skills. Also, check into Veggie Pizza to increase your Condition Durations and increase your experience.
Fixed that for you.
Omg, this thread makes me want to roll an engineer now so bad, lots of CCs and group support.
How hard is to play a support engineer effectively? Does it require high skill cap?
Ok this is to help people who have trouble understanding why yet another festival is coming in the next patch as part of the living story. Also, why the kitten Queen Jennah just decided to ruin the art district to build a massive gladiatorial arena (like one in the Black Citadel):
Guys look at the coming jubilee this way from a diplomatic point of view:
So Queen Jennah finalised the peace treaty betwen Human and Charrs for a common greater good (to fight against dragons together?).
However, recent events, especially the fierce election for council position between a human and a charr have inevitably caused some civil unrest based on biased racism (or specism?). While all that happening in LA, the effect might be worldwide and could potentially undermine the recently forged relationship between the human Krytan kingdom and Charr’s legions.
So Queen Jennah takes the opportunity to hold this jubilee, on the surface is just simply to celebrate her 10 year reign (a fair enough excuse), but the true purpose to strengthen the bond between the two nations. Notice that the main events of the jubilee are all about the new commissioned gladitorial arena. Charr’s favourite sport?
Hope it all makes sense to everyone now.
Cheers

Queen Jennah established the truce with the Charrs, this is to strengthen the friendship with them. Diplomacy in other words. Not necessarily mean she personally enjoys this, but the Charrs sure do.
I like the idea, F3 can be used to toggle fusion/defusion. Then the ranger can have access to pet skills through F1 and F2. Defusion will make pet reappear next to ranger.
Thanks for tips guys. I must admit spirits are weird. The first thing I used it, I was like: “why are you standing here? You have legs, go get them.”
Apparently Anet listened to all the feedback about how people over relying on mesmers to do JPs in PvE and now they are giving them options to have their own portals. I’m totally cool with this.
We mesmers only need to make sure these personal portals don’t make it to WvW/sPvP in near or far future (at all costs?). There are already people demanding for it, things like “WvW/sPvP restriction release ticket”. Kitten NO.
Guys, before you get all jumped up, Dev has confirmed that it is not allowed in WvW and sPvP. I don’t see a problem having it in PvE.
It’s not allowed in WvW or sPvP.
Also to be clear, the recipe is exotic and tradeable, but the output of said recipe is not.
Check the original thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/jubilee/Personal-Portal/first if you want.
I’m not good at big speech so I guess I just say: THANK YOU!
Here’s an example of good pet system:
Pets have their own inventory, can learn spells, can be transformed temporarily or permanently into other creatures by feeding them certain fish, sell your unwanted inventory in town and will return with requested items from your shopping list. (Torchlight 2)

Hi guys, i’m new here in ranger forum. I main a mesmer, but have been lvling up my ranger to 60-ish now.
Just a couple of quick questions:
Is Axe #5 the only reflect a ranger has?
@Razor: can a spirit build work with Axe + Warhorn / Longbow?
Thanks a bunch.
(edited by keenlam.4753)
@Nokaru: Thanks for your feedback.
Looks like a guardian is a must for any group composition.
I don’t understand all the hostility towards OP. He/she was simply asking a question about an option and didn’t sound demanding.
@OP: refund? probably not, but Anet has stated that you will get some other stats to replace the removed MF stats on gear. I think Anet will have to be very careful here on which stats to replace MF, I hope it would be something that everyone can benefit from, but only time will tell.
@mtl:
First of all, i second what DuckDuckBOOM said about being a glasscannon. Mesmers have a lot of tricks to survive andmost (if not all) of them are active in nature (unlike Guardian’s passive ones). Master them quick.
Secondly, I always find that Sword + Focus / Staff is the best weapon setup for lvling for numerous reasons.
Looking at each weapon:
Staff: amazing defense utilites and AoE attacks (bouncing autoattacks and chaos storm)
Sword: melee cleave and built-in evade/burst
Focus: AoE pull and swiftness for fast travel.
Looking as a whole:
Given this weapon setup, maybe try this combo
Temporal Curtain/Into the Void to clump mobs together.
iLeap/Swap/Blurred Frenzy/Chaos Storm/Phase Retreat
with iLeap and PR alone, you can dance around enemies while they’re dropping dead.
Have fun, be happy!
This build does stack confusion very effectively for sure. Unfortunately, that’s pretty much all it does. If your target fails to spam buttons during the few seconds your confusion is on them, your damage potential really drops to almost nothing.
As Pyro pointed out, your build is very specialist and group-oriented. Not to say it’s a bad thing but it surely needs a bit of versatility. Issues like against good players, when u successfully stack confusion on them, how to force them use skills that would allow the confusion hits hardest.
My take on Confusion is rather focus on stacking for burst dmg, I try to keep it up on enemies as long as possible during the course of fight so it’s more like attrition. That way, it chips away their health as most would ignore it since the dmg is small per tick, but it adds up.
Here’s the link to my build (which as almost similar trait setup): https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/condition-build-The-Clone-Spammer/first
Big thanks to Anet. This new system brings a lot of benefits that far outweigh the drawbacks. Best feature ever.
I still think he’s evil after that CM dungeon story.
It’s not allowed in WvW or sPvP.
Also to be clear, the recipe is exotic and tradeable, but the output of said recipe is not.
Relieved to hear this. I don’t think we mesmers have any problem with this addition.
It’s not allowed in WvW or sPvP.
Also to be clear, the recipe is exotic and tradeable, but the output of said recipe is not.
Relieved to hear this won’t be allowed in any PvP mode. Thanks for the clarification.
The difficulty aside, this event is made unfun and horrible experience with all the bugs which most people are not aware of.
No it means we will get reliable swiftness soon…
Ok, too optimistic, back to reality -_-
I agree blind is a good pick, so is confusion, maybe even both.
Temporal Curtain gives swiftness and cripple. So how about Veil actually giving Revealed to enemies.
/edit: It should be a meaningful duration, like 10s non-stackable.
Love your idea. It fits well with the “good for us, bad for them” theme mesmers have on most skills.
Anet, make it happen.
Mind you, this change would make Veil the first skill ever, unprecedented in GW2 that can be used to break stealth. As it is, stealth is unbreakable unless the enemies attack and break out of it themselves.
Skill points for the skill is irrelevant — they accumulate like rain after level 80.
I think the better discussion is whether MI is sufficient “as is” to be considered an elite. Even if it were a 10-point skill, it’s still occupying the elite-slot on my skill bar. I would like to see it improved a bit from its current state.
^ This.
Does MI need some improvement to deserve its elite status? Maybe.
Does it need to be better than Shadow Refuge in every way? Not really.
The whole comparison just puts the skill way out of context and make people just stop appreciate what they currently have.
I think whatever stand everyone has, we all welcome any improvement to MI. Some already gave great ideas like: increase the no. of targets affected to make it more MASS, or grant stability.
@skcamow: from my experience, the boss still carries on with the skill, but we get all the interrupt effects: HS dmg, Might from BI, conditions from CI. I haven’t tested FI with boss yet, but it should work in the same way.
Edited: boss with Unstoppable (rather than Unshakable) will be immune to CC conditions so I suppose CI won’t proc.
(edited by keenlam.4753)
In case it hasn’t been mentioned already.
Projectile reflect. We have Feedback and traited Focus skills. They all work like a charm.
Hi OP, just want to clarify to you about the retaliation boon:
For the duration of the boon, if enemy attacks you, you still get dmg, but they get dmg too for every hit they land on you.
Retaliation dmg scales with power of the source person. That means if you get it from guardian, it will scale with the guardian’s power stat. Or if you give it to someone else, it scales with your own power.
The enemy’s power stat or the dmg they land on you has no effect on the retaliation dmg.
Retaliation is easily confused with Reflection. The latter protects you from projectile attack only but you receive no dmg. I think the wiki does a better job explaining Reflect than Retaliation: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Reflect
Hope that helps.

Hi OP, people have already given good advice. Just my 2cents here.
Since you’re cool with taking out 10pts in Illusions, these points can be moved to:
1) Domination for more offense: Mind Wrack is a solid choice even though you run a phantasm build, Halting Strike is less reliable but good with a bit of practice imo and you have 3 ways to interrupt (Chaos Storm, Diversion F3, and Into the Void). You might enjoy the counterplay Interrupt just like Projectile Reflect.
2) Dueling for more defense: Deceptive Evasion is always good in PvE as clones can act as distraction.
Also, i strongly suggest you try Shattered Conditions as an alternative to Mender’s Purity. Because you run with Signet of Illusions, you basically can have 8 conditions cleansed on demand (4 shatters with reset = 8 shatters), for you and your allies. I can’t imagine how much the love you’re gonna get from your friends.
Hi OP, what’s your playstyle? It’s best to pick a build and gear for it that you enjoy at the end of the day.
It would help if you describe your playstyle a little more in depth so people here can give you useful advice.
@Groonz.7825
@Charak.9761It doesn’t escalate way to much, people simply doesn’t know how to play this game properly. As for a note, don’t go in with 4 zerker warriors and 1 mesmer.
@Alur: Congratulations. I took the courtesy to copy all your posts about your group strategy to my thread (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/cutthroat/Candidate-Trials-Tier-4-Full-Group-Strategy/first#post2516243) so people can look it up more easily. Hope you dont mind.
Excellent work. Thanks so much for sharing.
@tencoderiot.6430 It is not impossible.
Done with a normal setup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEMynZ-prUY&feature=youtu.be
Guardian, Necromancer, Engineer, Thief and Mesmer. No Zerker Warriors or similar groups alike.
Is all about coordination and knowing the ‘synergies’ of the classes in the group.
@tencoderiot.6430. Engineer was the key for us to finish it.
People seriously need to learn how to play this game properly, CoF and Zerker teams (mechanics way to simple for the casual players to be able to finish the content in the game) has dealt a lot of damage to the game and tbh is Anets fault for letting it go for months.
@Zhavari.7190
Thank you!
What do you mean by Gold Zhavari, 50 kills? You’re welcome. Yes, I was referring to the 50 kills mark. I noticed you were at 28 by the end and assume that hitting 50 would be quite an uphill climb.
@Zhavari.7190
It wasn’t the best setup for DPS wise, and I guess we can still go up about 5 to 10 kills of mobs (same group and some build changes), to hit the mark of 35 and get silver. Gold is something we will have to “craft” and come up with a group for it.But mainly we wanted to show that you don’t require a Zerker team or a perfect meta team to be able to do such a thing as T4, is just a matter of coordination and knowing what the classes are capable off. As example thief was pulling, blinding the mobs and constantly doing massive dps in 1 target (striker priority to not kill the guardian, then Plunderers when they came …), and if you look at the big picture of the game, Thieves are not so loved, just because people want to go for the easiest way.
@Groonz.7825
@Charak.9761It doesn’t escalate way to much, people simply doesn’t know how to play this game properly. As for a note, don’t go in with 4 zerker warriors and 1 mesmer.
I think I can stop complaining about the difficulty now. This team is awesome.

(edited by keenlam.4753)
My only real issue with Mass Invisibility is that it’s not Mass.
It should be, it’s even in the name. Plus it has such a huge radius, which needs a purpose. Make it affect ~50 targets? That’s the AE limit for siege engines, too. and it’s not like we’d be the only class with a more WvW-specialized Elite skill
Such a change would be nice indeed.
Spear.
15char
If ranger is designed to be a woodsman hunter then spear (as a land-based 2H) is a logical choice. Given that Anet intend to add new types of weapon soonish, i would really hope spear is one of them. Warrior might get it too. It makes sense.
Just want to add my 2cents.
The key to win against a mesmer is to recognise the real one quick and burst them down. As to counter their own bursts, as most people already mention, best way is to stay at range. In fact, you want to stay well away from the mesmer and clones as well so you can dodge the shatter or condition bomb.
Also when you do your burst watch out for 1) retaliation and 2) projectile reflect.
If you are running a condition build, it might be easier to take down a mesmer since mesmers have limited condi cleansing without specced heavily for it (which most mesmers don’t do).
Hope this helps.
(edited by keenlam.4753)
maybe veil can do something else other than stealth. Like make it a light combo as advertised and maybe cleanse 1 condition as you run through it with a 3s ICD. Just my take on the skill.
I think we mesmers don’t need more stealth. We need more condi- cleansing without specced heavily for it.
I’m sure any hardcore pvper with a right mind won’t farm this event on t4. It’s horrible experience and simply not worth the time and effort invested in.
@Pinch: Thanks for your advice. I presume that your group is extremely well coordinated to pull it off. Do you think the strategy in my OP would work for a well coordinated group like yours? If it does somehow, i think my opinion on this content just turns from worst to best because it is a challenge requires the team work together and each member does what they do best (dps = kill fast, bunker = hold ground and survive, cc = pin mob down or move stuff around).
Again, really appreciate your advice.
Just gather some good tips. Bump this thread so others can have a look
Hi Pinch, could you please describe your group composition and stragegy u guys used?
ThanksFull Support Guardian
Zerk Ele (Lightning Hammer)
Zerk War (GS/Axe)
Zerk Thief (S/D & S/P)
Zerk Mesmer (S/F, GS, pick up the other LH)Fight mobs next to the rock, rotate projectile blockers (100% uptime), spam blinds on the melee mobs. Pull the far plunderer to you, or have the Thief run out and daze spam if you get too many in a row. That’s honestly about it. Don’t forget to use consumables.
I’ve also done 35 kills with a Condi Necro and Zerk Engineer instead of the Ele/Mesmer. The one thing I noticed with that comp is that a lack of projectile blockers makes it much more difficult.
Thanks very much. I’m going to get my guildies to try this.
